Regular Downtown Disney District guests – and probably some who have never been in the District before – are noticing a sensational transformation. Along with recently opened new shops – PANDORA, Curl Surf, a second Starbucks location – the face of Downtown Disney District is being refreshed with bursts of color throughout its pots and planters. Guests who take a closer look will see area-specific layouts with the height and color of plants varying, for example, from the ground-level flowers in planters near World of Disney and Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria to the higher-profile plantings around The LEGO Store and Tortilla Jo’s. In fact, since both Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria and Tortilla Jo’s have added additional outdoor seating, their respective new seating areas are enhanced with new pots and fresh, colorful plants. More than 8,000 new plants have been added to the Downtown Disney District. It’s all part of a plan to add new and exciting sights and sounds for guests as they shop and dine in the Downtown Disney District, or simply as they walk through the area en route to the theme parks or Hotels of the Disneyland Resort. Along with the new landscaping – which will be refreshed seasonally – a new atmosphere soundtrack featuring Disney tunes in a variety of styles can now be heard. In the morning, as guests stroll (or rush) through Downtown Disney District to the theme park entrances, they are welcomed by the classic sounds of Disney from movies and attractions. In the afternoon, the tunes take on a new energy with lively special arrangements of Disney melodies. And around sundown, the Downtown Disney District background music welcomes the night with cooler, jazzy and electronic sounds. All the music is Disney, but much of it is presented in ways you’ve never heard before. (Can you name that tune?) “This is just the beginning of an exciting transformation,” said Todd Bennett, General Manager of the Downtown Disney District. “The terrific Disney teams from horticulture, entertainment and Walt Disney Imagineering are bringing fun, new sights and sounds that will change and grow throughout the seasons to surprise and delight Downtown Disney guests.” View the full article

Before a recent visit to Via Napoli in Epcot for a pizza, my husband and I had a few spare minutes before our Advance Dining Reservation. We decided to spend that extra time in La Bottega Italiana, one of the Italy Pavilion’s shops, where I happened upon some fun kitchen gear and other Italia-themed merchandise. Pasta Mickey Italia Apron It had been a while since I’d popped in this particular store, so I’m not sure how long these have been around, but what stood out to me right away was this fun apron featuring Mickey formed out of various pasta shapes. Pasta Mickey Italia Apron Mickey and Minnie are both accessorized with farfalle (or bow-tie pasta – ha!) on potholders and dish towels. Pasta Minnie Italia Potholder Pasta Mickey Italia Dish Towel The same design is also in place on a travel mug. Pasta Mickey Travel Cup Similar items focus on the decorative Italia script. Italia Apron Italia Potholder and Dish Towel And this cutting board has a few added bonuses: a map of Italy, along with Mickey and Minnie taking it all in by way of a gondola. Italia Cutting Board I am seriously considering hiring somebody whose entire job will be to come with me to Disney World and remind me that the last thing I need is another mug. Italia Mugs Because when I see one I like this much I completely forget the ever-growing collection of Disney mugs I already have at home. Italia Mug Other side of Italia Mug Anyone else have this issue? Are mugs your vice, or maybe something else? Please tell me I’m not alone. Mickey and Minnie Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little tour of some items you can take home from Epcot for your own Italian kitchen! Until next time, Alla Salute! As the old saying goes, if you don’t play good, you can at least look good. In golf, there are more ways than ever to accessorize your golf game with little touches of Disney magic as we swing into the summer golf season. My friends at Disney Golf, which is operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management, recently unveiled their new Mickey Wedge Set, a custom collection of three Callaway MD-3 wedges with Mickey Mouse logos. The wedges feature red, yellow, white and green colored weight ports that match the colors in the famous umbrella logo used by the legendary golfer Arnold Palmer. The wedges retail for $189.95 each ($569.85 for the set of three), but I know how you can possibly get them for free if you hurry. Disney Golf is giving away a complimentary set of the wedges through a contest that runs through May 30. Just click on the Registration Page and enter the contest for your chance to win. In addition to the Mickey wedges, Disney Golf offers a variety of Disney-themed golf gear, from golf bags to umbrellas to golf apparel. Just visit the pro shop at one of the three Walt Disney World Resort championship golf courses to shop for all of the newest items. And if you get the urge to play a few holes while you’re there, check out their new Sunset 9 offering, which gives golfers the opportunity to play 9 holes just before sunset each day at a discounted rate. And they’ll throw in a golf cart, a hot dog and a beverage, too. Kids can get in on the fun too through Disney Golf’s summer golf camps which run from June 5 to August 11. The week-long camps are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include complimentary lunch each day. For more information on all of these and other golf experiences at Walt Disney World Resort, just swing by one of our pro shops or call 407-WDW-GOLF (939-4653). View the full article

Looking to avoid discovery, they ignite a lively party vibe, enlisting everyone gathered around to help out and show off your favorite dance moves in a rockin’ Dance Off. And for the first time on Terra (that’s Earth to you and me) you’ll encounter the one-and-only Groot. If you love collecting or trading pins at Disney Parks, mark your calendar for August 25-26, 2017 when the annual Disney Pin Celebration returns to World ShowPlace at Epcot. I recently caught up with Qunyh Kimball, a graphic designer with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, to discover the meaning behind this year’s event theme, “Love is an Adventure.” “We asked the Cast Members who design and develop pins to define the phrase, ‘I love Disney,’” explained Quynh. “We discovered there are many ways to love Disney through memorable characters, adventurous stories, and shared experiences. This opened a world of characters we could feature on the collectible items created especially for this event.” Guests attending this ticketed event will have the first opportunity to purchase limited edition pins and products, which will be wonderful additions to any Disney pin collection. “I’m delighted we have included both beloved characters like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and characters not often seen on pins such as Ray from Disney’s ‘The Princess and the Frog,’” continued Quynh. I selected a handful of my favorite designs including a two-pin set with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider from Disney’s “Tangled,” or a pin with Hiro and Baymax from Disney’s “Big Hero 6.” Guests will also find several “mini-jumbo” pins inspired by classic attractions or characters found at Disney Parks. Another item topping my list is the mystery pin collection containing many expressions of love. There are a total of 16 pins in this set, and each box contains two randomly selected pins. In addition to the eight pins shown above, the set will also contain eight limited edition chaser pins each with an edition size of 250. Attendees should also look for this incredible six-pin set with Carl and Ellie from Disney-Pixar’s “Up,” and the Disney Villain-inspired “Love is Vain” set containing six 3D sculpted pins. In addition to perusing through the pins created for this event, guests will participate in trading activities; meet Disney artists and merchandisers; and have opportunities to take photos with world famous Disney characters. For more details on how to register for this event, please visit DisneyParksMerchandise.com. Please note space is limited. View the full article

Today’s Disney Doodle depicts what the enchanted flowers from “Alice In Wonderland” would do if they had the chance to visit a Disney theme park. According to artist Ashley Taylor, it would be the perfect time for the bunch to visit Epcot. “The colorful flowers at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival always remind me of the Golden Afternoon flowers from ‘Alice in Wonderland!’ It’s easy to imagine them singing and chatting after hours at Epcot!” View the full article

Before becoming a cast member, I thought I was the biggest Disney Parks fan. But I was mistaken. I actually became the biggest Disney fan when I had my son almost three years ago. Not only am I an even bigger fan now, I am una Disney mom and I’m very orgullosa of it! Being a Disney mom means that I get to relive the magic that Disney brings to our lives, especially at our theme parks. From rediscovering attractions, to meeting all over again classic and beloved characters, to exploring food options at our resorts and parks…everything now has a new meaning and seen in a different light. I love spending time with my son and my husband at the theme parks because I get to be a kid again, and I relive everything through my son’s eyes. And oh what a sight that is! Are you a Disney mom like me? I want to hear from you and everything that you like to do with your children when visiting our parks. View the full article

Take a dive under the sea on an exciting nautical adventure at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage in Disneyland park! The opening of Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage on June 11, 2007, marked the return of an underwater attraction to the 6.3-million-gallon Tomorrowland lagoon. From 1959 to 1998, this location was home to the Submarine Voyage, which is considered one of the first “E” Ticket attractions at Disneyland park. The reimagined submarine experience was inspired by the 2003 hit Disney•Pixar film, “Finding Nemo.” Beloved characters Nemo, Marlin, Dory and Crush are just some of the fish friends that join guests as they swim past their submarine port windows. You can’t miss the sparkling blue lagoon across from the majestic Matterhorn Bobsleds and you’ll definitely hear the squawking of “Mine! Mine! Mine!” from three familiar seagulls perched upon a red buoy. After you jump in line underneath the Disneyland Monorail station, you’ll board a 40-passenger research submarine operated by the Nautical Exploration and Marine Observation Institute — N.E.M.O. — on a mission to explore an extraordinary deepwater volcano. The fleet of eight bright yellow submarines each have their own unique names: Explorer, Scout, Voyager, Mariner, Seafarer, Nautilus, Neptune and Argonaut. During your research quest, you’ll stumble upon Marlin, Mr. Ray and Dory on a journey through 17 subaquatic scenes featuring colorful coral reefs, surfing sea turtles, ancient ruins and a fiery volcano, all to save the little clownfish Nemo in this heartwarming family adventure. Is Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage a must-see for you at Disneyland park? Let us know in the comments! View the full article

We are so pleased to welcome two red river hog piglets to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge! Chloe, a first-time mom, gave birth to two adorable males. The piglets are already showing their personalities. They are more active than others we’ve cared for at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge; they like to wrestle and climb on their dad when he’s relaxing in the yard. Our keepers say Chloe is an excellent mom, and having two piglets is typical, as red river hogs usually give birth to two to four piglets at a time. Red river hogs are born with striped patterning that helps them blend into the vegetation, which keeps them safe from predators. As they mature, their fur changes to a bright russet color. The piglets will remain backstage until they grow a bit larger. Because the Sense of Africa program at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge includes a stop at the red river hogs’ home, a small number of guests have been able to see the piglets up close, and we understand they were thrilled with the sneak peek! Ni hao! Or “hello” in Mandarin. Here at the Disney Parks Blog we are counting down the days until May 11 with our colleagues at Shanghai Disney Resort. That’s when Shanghai Disney Resort will host the world premiere of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre inside Shanghai Disney Resort’s Disneytown. The film marks the fifth installment of the popular franchise, and the first-ever Hollywood movie premiere in Mainland China. The film stars including Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer plan to attend the celebration. Disney Parks are where our stories come to life and the soon-to-be-blockbuster movie is perfectly-timed to help us celebrate the 50th anniversary of the classic attraction’s opening at the Disneyland Resort in California. Disney fans know that Shanghai Disney Resort is also home to Treasure Cove, the first ever pirate-themed land at a Disney Park. And inside Treasure Cove is one of the most spectacular attractions we’ve ever opened, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure. I actually had the honor of being there during the Grand Opening, and I can tell you personally that riding that attraction is one of the most truly stunning experiences I’ve had in my history at Disney Parks. The attraction features special effects like you’ve never seen before, as it dips and spins – that’s right the boats spin – through a rough and tumble adventure of seafaring fun. And it also has favorite characters from the movies including Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbosa and a giant version of Davy Jones that towers over you as you drift through his scene. It’s a game changer – and the movie looks spectacular! The premiere will take place at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre, which currently houses the first-ever Mandarin stage production of the Broadway hit, THE LION KING, which has delivered more than 300 performances and is now one of the longest-running Broadway shows in the history of China. Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more news from Disney Parks around the world and more Disney Parks news tied to what is sure to be our next blockbuster, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”! Thanks to the huge brouhaha that it caused, most of us know that Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World is undergoing a massive renovation starting — well, now. Contruction is Underway at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort While the resort undergoes what is from all accounts going to be a gigantic, transformative makeover, dining options are obviously going to be impacted. In fact, Caribbean Beach Resort’s only bar, Banana Cabana, and its only sit-down restaurant, Shutters, are closing to make way for the overhaul. Shutters Entrance Last Week Obviously, people still need to eat, though. So we’ve been monitoring the situation closely. As part of that, we’ve visited the resort a couple of times over the last two weeks to bring you descriptions and photos of everything, as the transitional plans shape up. As of press time, Banana Cabana is still open, but will close in the near future. Banana Cabana is Still Opened as of Press Time The updated buffet area is now open for breakfast and dinner. We’ll take a closer peak at the set up there in just a moment. Let’s take a look at it all — what you can expect if you’re visiting or staying at Caribbean Beach Resort sometime in the foreseeable future. Martinique Island Market During our first visit last week, we were able to get a first look at the new Martinique Island Market. Martinique Island Market Sign Martinique Island Market Sign Yep. Your eyes do not deceive you. The Martinique Island Market is a repurposed hotel room. They’ve added a window in the door to make it look a little less…hotel room-y? Martinique Island Market Inside, the set up is similar to many grab and go areas in other resorts. Menu — Click to Enlarge A bookcase held an assortment of refillable mugs, Mickey krispies, fresh fruit, and assorted chips. Grab and Go and Refillable Mugs for Purchase A cooler was stocked with additional items, including fresh fruit, Uncrustables, desserts, wine, beer, and more. Cooler with Grab and Go Options There are some actual meals here. The day we visited, there were chicken Caesar wraps, Cobb salads, and pre-made sandwiches, all ready to go. Grab and Go Chicken Caesar Wrap Grab and Go Cobb Salad Grab and Go Sandwiches A separate cooler held additional bottled drinks, like water, juice, soda, and milk. Grab and Go Drinks There was also a microwave for warming purchases. We found a selection of Twinings tea, Nutri Grain bars, and Pop Tarts as well. Microwave for Warming Foods A coffee station dispenses java as well as hot water, and condiments are available for customizing your hot drink. Beverage Station A tiny pastry case shares counter space with the coffee station, and offers up assorted bakery items like muffins, cupcakes, brownies, and cookies. Bakery Items Updates About Refillable Mugs Stations, a Bar, and More You might be wondering where the refillable mug station is, since it wasn’t in the makeshift Martinique Market. We were, too. According to cast members that we talked to, refillable mug stations will be by the small rooms where ice is dispensed. They were scheduled to be available possibly as early as Friday, May 5, but we have not seen them yet. Construction and New Dining Set Up Because a bar is pretty much a requirement for a vacation for lots of us, we also asked if there would be a bar opened to replace Banana Cabana. We were told that there will be a bar constructed in the Old Port Royale parking area. Think “pop up” bar, like you often see around Disney during special events or extra busy times. Sign Showing Access to Banana Cabana — For Now For now, though, guests can still access Banana Cabana through the pool gates. New Caribbean Beach Resort Dining Area and Construction Area Photos We were back again this week so that we could share with you the very latest updates to the area. Old Port Royale Centertown and its restaurant, Shutters, is now, well, shuttered. Construction Sign Construction Even the circle leading up to the building is closed. Construction The new food area is set up by the Fuentes Del Morro Pool, which is the main pool for the resort with the fort and play area. It’s located directly behind Old Port Royale Centertown. Fuentes Del Morro Pool Area The makeshift dining area is comprised of a tent that houses a buffet as well as a Disney Food Truck for guests seeking a la carte options. Enter this covered area, and you’ll find ordering areas and cashiers on the right hand side. There, you can either pay for the buffet, or if you prefer, you can go to the left and place your food truck order. Covered Ordering Area We snagged a copy of the buffet menus, complete with pricing, for you to see. Buffet Menu — Click to Enlarge The Superstar Catering Food Truck (usually parked in Disney Springs) was on duty the day we visited. No word yet on whether the food truck options will change or expand. Food Truck in New Food Area Food truck options include some hot grilled items for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Note that food truck breakfast options are available 7:00-11:30AM, and lunch and dinner are available 11:30AM-9:00PM. Food Truck Menu — Click to Enlarge Randomly, there’s also a coffee station outside the tent as well. Coffee Station Once you pay for the buffet, you’ll be given a wristband, which gives you access to the actual buffet line. Ordering Area Both seating and the buffet itself are located inside the air-conditioned tent, and we were happy to see culinary staff preparing some food right there on the line. Buffet Inside the Tent Items on the buffet are labeled directly on the glass so that you know what you’re getting. There was a selection of cut fruit, and containers of butter and cream cheese were available for toast and bagels. Fruit, Butter, and Cream Cheese We found standard Disney breakfast buffet items the day we visited, including these guys! Mickey Waffles and Toppings Freshly made Mickey waffles always bring smiles to our faces. Mickey Waffles on the Breakfast Buffet Toppings for the waffles included blueberry and strawberry compote as well as warm syrup. Blueberry and Strawberry Toppings Savory hot items included potato casserole, link sausage, and scrambled eggs. Buffet Items There were also island crepes and individual veggie fritattas. Buffet Items Of course, guests could also take advantage of all the bacon and ham they could eat. Buffet Items Buffet Items A separate section held breads and pastries, and included bagels, muffins, and danish. Pastries A beverage station was located to one side of the tent. Drink Station If you’ve visited Caribbean Beach Resort before, then the lanterns, tables, and chairs in the dining area will probably look familiar to you. Seating in Temporary Food Area It’s important to note that you can use this seating area whether you’re dining from the buffet, or you’re purchasing your meal from the food truck. Seating Well, that’s all we have so far! We know that these closures and changes impact quite a large number of you, so we’ll continue to monitor the situation and update you with news and photos as the story continues to develop! But for now, what do you think of the dining and drinking changes happening at Caribbean Beach Resort during this massive construction period? Leave a comment and let us know! With just a few weeks left until Pandora – The World of Avatar opens at Disney’s Animal Kingdom we have more information about the menu at the lounge on Pandora, Pongu Pongu. Pongu Pongu Concept Art ©Disney The full menu for the “eclectic” lounge has been released on the Walt Disney website! Let’s check it out! Screenshot from Disney World website. The top of the menu features the non-alcoholic beverages including Pongu Pongu’s signature beverage, the Night Blossom, a mix of limeade combined with apple and desert pear flavors finished off with passion fruit boba balls. ©Disney Note that on its own the Night Blossom is just $4.99 but when ordered in the Souvenir Mug with Glowing Unadelta Seed the beverage is $18.25! We sure hope that glowing seed actually grows a bioluminescent tree for that price. Next on the menu are the alcoholic beverages including the Mo’ara Margarita (Sauza Conmemorativo Añejo Tequila with Strawberry and Blood Orange flavors topped with Strawberry Boba Balls), which is also priced at $18.25 when ordered in a souvenir mug. Other drinks include Mo’ara High Country Ale in 16 ounce and 22 ounce sizes, and Hawkes’ Grog Ale also available in two sizes. If you’d like your draft beer in a souvenir mug it’ll cost $18.50. And finally, there is one food item on the menu – the Pongu Lumpia, a spring roll filled with pineapple cream cheese. This sweet snack is Disney’s take on a popular street food in the Philippines and Indonesia (and apparently, Pandora). Television Shot of Lumpia on ABC’s The Chew Now that we have the full menu for Pongu Pongu and the menu for Satu’li Canteen it’s time to start planning what you’re going to eat and drink on your visit to Pandora!
