Nothing says summer more than kids splashing around in the pool. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is the ultimate pool with a special area featuring slides and activities sized for little ones. Tucked away at Blizzard Beach, Tyke’s Peak offers a mini inner tube ride, side-by-side downhill slides and chutes tunneling through the “snow.” Themed wading pools, fountains, waterfalls and spouting pop-up jets delight small fries under 48 inches tall at this polar playground. Take a look at how these preschoolers soak up the fun during a day at Blizzard Beach. View the full article

A few years ago I unknowingly visited Magic Kingdom Park on a day that’s known to many guests as “Dapper Day.” At first I just thought wow, I guess I never realized how everyone else is so much more sophisticated than me, but I soon discovered the existence of this beloved tradition launched and enjoyed by stylish guests! While the foundation of my weekend style – if you can even call it that – is and probably always will consist mostly of old t-shirts, I can’t wait to visit Magic Kingdom Park on April 28 and Epcot on April 29 to admire the creativity and keen fashion sense of all those joining in on the fun! I was talking with my Disney PhotoPass friends over at Epcot, and they shared with me their favorite photo spots with the best backdrops for refined photos. Whether you’re dressed to the nines or rocking your usual look like me, check out their recommended can’t-miss spots where (weather permitting) you’ll find Disney PhotoPass photographers for most of the day on April 29 ready to capture your style: Behind Spaceship Earth in front of the topiary featuring Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey and Louie Near the Fountain of Nations behind Spaceship Earth In the China Pavilion near the exit of Reflections of China In the China Pavilion near the Temple of Heaven In the Italy Pavilion near Tutto Italia Ristorante By the torii gate in the Japan Pavilion In the Morocco Pavilion near Casablanca Carpets In the France Pavilion next to the World Showcase Lagoon Near The Tea Caddy in the United Kingdom Pavilion In the gardens of the Canada Pavilion Next to Pineapple Promenade in Showcase Plaza To take home all of your Disney PhotoPass photos from the day, purchase Memory Maker One Day, and be sure to share your photos with us using #DisneyPhotoPass for a chance to be featured on our social media pages! To say that I’m obsessed with the adorable Disney Parks-inspired outfits sold at The Dress Shop at Cherry Tree Lane at Disney Springs is an understatement! Every time I step inside, there’s a new dress, purse or other accessories I simply must have. The delightful apparel and accessories collection – which was created especially for Disney Parks – has been a fan-favorite since it was introduced more than a year ago. The collection was designed for guests who want to emulate their favorite Disney characters or theme park attractions in a fun, retro way. The collection contains perfect outfits for guests who have a passion for Disney style. The dress styles are classic in design, yet all the styles have modern fits which make them wonderful outfits to wear when visiting Disney Parks. New styles for this spring include a dress silhouette inspired by “it’s a small world” and Main Street, U.S.A., at Magic Kingdom Park. Check out these styles inspired by “Monsters, Inc.,” and “Mary Poppins.” That penguin purse is an adorable must-have for any Poppins fan! A new Orange Bird dress and accessories debuted at the shop in January, however, Orange Bird Dooney & Bourke handbags just hit shelves this month. Another guest favorite in this location is the selection of apparel by Her Universe that includes items inspired by Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland, Main Street, U.S.A., and the Haunted Mansion. Some items are available on the Shop Disney Parks app, while others are available exclusively at The Dress Shop at Cherry Tree Lane, one of the locations inside the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs. Here at Disney Vacation Club we’re celebrating Spring by showcasing dressy looks inspired by our Resort hotels. If you missed our first two posts highlighting unforgettable looks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House, Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s BoardWalk Villas go check them out now. You’re sure to find vintage inspiration for your next visit to Walt Disney World Resort! Today we’re completing this photo series by springing forward a few decades. Today’s styles are distinguished and debonair, drawing inspiration from Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. How sweet are these fashions? This 1950s “day at the races” attire blends seamlessly into the décor at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, where nods to the region’s horse racing history abound (including this adorable carousel). A floral frock for the lady, complete with a lightly veiled hat, and a sweater vest paired with a distinguished blazer in my absolute favorite shade of green for the gentleman, help make this couple the perfect pair. Don a look like this one during your next Disney Vacation Club stay and I promise you’ll find lots of cute photo backdrops to choose from at this Resort! Love is also in the air over at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, where this couple looks like they’re on a tropical honeymoon (circa the late 1960s). And why not? There’s no more romantic getaway locale than the Resort’s Bora Bora Bungalows. Oh my – her hair! Her dress! Her shoes! I want them ALL! And while the debonair white suit he’s wearing has yet to make a real fashion comeback, you can almost picture these two making themselves at home at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort back on opening day (in 1971). So, which is your favorite dressy Disney Vacation Club look? I still can’t decide, but I hope these fashions inspire you to go retro with your fashion during your next visit! Have some fun and match your style to whichever Disney Vacation Club Resort you call “home.” View the full article

Every once in a while a menu change at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World sparks a flame of excitement for the DFB — and this is one of those times! Our Disneyland correspondent Heather (keepin’ it tasty @DiningInDisney on Instagram!) headed to Tangaroa Terrace at Disneyland Hotel recently — only to discover that the new menu she’d been so anxious to try is basically the same menu that can be found at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar (also located at the Disneyland Hotel)! Tangaroa Terrace And this, our Disney food loving friends, is a good thing! The menu now includes favorites like Panko-Crusted Chinese Long Beans and an Island-Style Hot Dog. But if you think Heather stopped at those two delicious items, you just haven’t been paying attention. Tangaroa Terrace Menu Tangaroa Terrace Menu On her visit, Heather opted for the famous Trader Sam’s Pu Pu Platter, which allows diners to sample four of the menu items: the Long Beans we mentioned, Sweet and Spicy Asian Wings, Pork Gyoza, and Fried Spring Rolls. Tangaroa Terrace Pu Pu Platter The Sweet and Spicy Asian Wings are as advertised: coated in a sweet sauce that complimented the slightly spicy seasoning on the wings. These are cooked on the bone for maximum juiciness and flavor! Sweet and Spicy Asian Wings The Panko-Crusted Chinese Long Beans are as crunchy and irresistible as ever and come with Togarashi Aïoli that’s addicting (and also terrific with the Wings!). Long Beans The Fried Spring Rolls are vegetarian and fried to a perfect golden color. Fried Spring Roll Inside are traditional veggies like cabbage, onion, and carrot. There’s really nothing special or unique about these, but as a general rule, we don’t complain too much about foods that are wrapped and fried. These benefit from a dip in the Togarashi Aïoli also! Fried Spring Roll Interior The Pork Gyoza are steamed pot stickers packed with pork and vegetables. The wrappers (they’re the Gyoza part of Pork Gyoza) are slightly chewy and hold together well. Dumplings The interior is a mix of tasty pork, veggies, and subtle seasoning. Dumplings Interior Heather also wanted to try the Island-Style Hot Dog which, frank-ly speaking, is a fabulous rendition of a hot dog. For starters, this ain’t an Oscar Meyer, y’all; it’s a Pork and Pineapple Sausage! These island flavors are stuffed into a Pretzel Bun and topped with Whole-Grain Mustard, Onion Sauce, Pickled Carrots and Diakon Radish, and Fresno Chiles. Island-Style Hot Dog This is a beauty in more ways than one! Not only is it visually quite pretty (you know, as pretty as a sausage can be…), but the flavors really work well together. Island-Style Hot Dog Way to go Tangaroa Terrace. And since it’s located at Disneyland Hotel rather than inside the park, you don’t even need a ticket to get in on this delicious Disney food action! (And bonus: if you’ve been jonesing to try Trader Sam’s menu but didn’t want the hassle of getting in there, Tangaroa Terrace is super accessible!) Floral is a perennial spring favorite, but this year, it seems to be everywhere. (Even my 11-month old son recently had a “wear a floral shirt” theme day at daycare! Luckily, we had a Hawaiian-inspired button-down ready to go.) At Disney Springs, floral fashions can be found throughout the property – dresses, shirts, shorts, suits (the bathing kind, of course!) and even accessories. While I haven’t had a chance to visit every single location this spring, I did recently pop into a few of my favorite stores to see what styles they were featuring. Below are a few that stood out: At American Threads, there were tons of cute dresses, rompers and separates. This put-it-on-and-you’re-ready outfit seemed like a perfect option for a balmy Florida afternoon. At francescas, there were fun fashions galore, but I was just as impressed with their accessories selection. (Because really … who doesn’t need a cute dish featuring a koaola bear in a floral headpiece?) Their selection of earrings was vast and could compliment practically any color combination. Sunglasses complete the look, naturally. At Free People, the Boho Chic vibe was clearly on display, alongside some more subdued options. Whether you’re headed to an outdoor music festival or a garden party with girlfriends, there’s a good chance you’ll find what you’re looking for here. At havaianas, your feet will feel fun and fancy-free in these vibrant flip flops. With seemingly endless pairs to choose from, there’s sure to be a style that suits your style. So as not to leave the gentlemen out, I had to include a nod to Tommy Bahama. Their classic camp shirts are comfortable and a great fit for those who are confident enough to show off a bold, floral pattern. (More subdued versions are available, too, but where’s the fun in that?) They have plenty for fashionable ladies, too. Last, but certainly not least, is Vera Bradley. Fans of the brand know that they are masters at mixing vibrant patterns and this floral bag is no exception. With a matching planner, you’ll feel totally put together all season long. Are you ready to rock the floral trend this spring? If so, Disney Springs has something for you and I’d love to see it … share photos of you and your floral finds using #DisneySprings on Twitter or Instagram for your chance to be featured on our social media handles. (And in the meantime, feel free to follow us via @DisneySprings for the latest news and happenings.) View the full article

Earlier this year we announced that in 2019 Adventures by Disney will offer first-ever vacations to Japan! Today I’m pleased to share a sneak peek at some of the amazing, culturally rich experiences you’ll be able to enjoy on this trip next year. What would a trip to “The Land of the Rising Sun” be without exploring some of this country’s historical shrines and temples? On this adventure, you’ll travel to Kyoto, famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. Here you’ll visit the magnificent Pure Water Temple and the exquisite Fushimi Inari Shrine, before traveling to Tokyo to revel in the Sensoji Temple and Meiji Shrine. You’ll also explore unique aspects of Japanese life while biking through rural Japan, surrounded by rice paddies, cruising on a riverboat through the heart of Tokyo and traversing Kyoto’s celebrated bamboo forest. Plus, take in a healthy dose of culture as you experience the wonder of time-honored samurai sword fighting and the intriguing charm of a maiko’s dance performance. And shhh … your kids won’t even know they’re learning as they soak in wisdom from local practitioners of the arts of Taiko drumming, origami and calligraphy. But there’s so much more to this amazing 11-day, 10-night itinerary and I’ve barely scratched the surface. Look for future posts here on the Disney Parks Blog where I’ll share additional details about the Adventures by Disney Japan vacation, which will be available to book beginning on May 9! For many of us, working at the Disneyland Resort is a family tradition. My parents, aunt and uncle worked at the Disneyland Resort. For the Gerlach family, working at the Disneyland Resort is a family tradition spanning four generations and 19 people, dating back to 1956! Earlier this week, we invited the Gerlachs for a family reunion at the Disneyland Resort. Cast members Mikayla and Kaiden were joined by 10 of their family members, all former cast members, who enjoyed Pixar Fest and watched Mikayla perform in Pixar Play Parade. Mikayla and Kaiden’s great-grandparents were the first generation of their family members to work at the Disneyland Resort, followed by Mikayla and Kaiden’s grandmother, mother and several other relatives. Watch this video for a glimpse of their family reunion! View the full article
