  5. Benvenuto! Hop in, cousin, and buckle up while we take a closer look at Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters at Disney California Adventure park. This attraction takes you through Luigi’s Casa Della Tires, before heading out to the dance floor where Luigi’s cousins have put on their dancing tires and let loose. Don’t race through the queue or you’ll miss some neat details! It’s not called Casa Della Tires for nothing! Luigi has all his finest and favorite tires on display in the tire showroom, including Lightyear Radials, Tortellini Tires and Fettuccini. Keep an eye out for all the different brands! As you leave the tire gallery, look across the way where Luigi and Guido have three boards full of memorabilia. It’s no surprise that Luigi is a huge Lightning McQueen fan – he and Guido were part of Lightning’s pit crew at both the Piston Cup and the World Prix. Luigi has even kept issues of magazines like Rolling Tire and RSN where Lightning is featured on the cover. If you look closely, you might spot memorabilia from around the world! While it is clear that Luigi loves Italy, he’s made a home in Carburetor County and kept many mementos from his time in Radiator Springs–including a sign for Route 66 and a flier from the Carburetor County Classic Film Festival where they played movies like “Mary Poppin’ a Wheelie” and “Monster Trucks, Inc.” As you exit the building and enter the patio area, take a peek at Luigi’s office. He has all sorts of fun décor scattered about, like the Italian flag, postcards from around the globe and even an Automotive Table of the Elements. Some elements to note are Vroomium, Car-bon, Bumperine and Towtalum. Luigi’s desk is full of nods to his life in Radiator Springs. You might notice a note from Doc Hudson, file folders with the names of other residents and an invoice from Shiny Wax. While it may not seem the most organized, his desk is a treasure trove of memories! If you’re visiting the Disneyland Resort for Halloween Time, you’ll notice the attraction has transformed into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween. Luigi has decorated for the season with Haul-O-Ween pumpkins honoring cities from his home country. Starting Nov. 9 for the Holidays, be sure to ride Luigi’s Joy to the Whirl. Thanks for joining us on today’s tour of Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, racers! View the full article

  7. In August of 2006, I somehow convinced three friends who didn’t even live in the state of Florida and didn’t have kids to travel to the Sunshine State and go with me on my very first Disney cruise. Now, by the title of this blog, you can probably guess how the story goes from here – but what you don’t know is that in those 12 years, I have gone on 21 Disney cruises, crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Disney Magic twice, docked in Africa for a day, sailed on an inaugural sailing of the Disney Dream and eaten my body weight in the ice cream. And while I may have gained a few pounds from the array of desserts onboard (hello, chocolate soufflé at Palo!), I’ve also gained a lot of knowledge and affinity for Disney Cruise Line. Now, as a new cast member, I am excited to share that love with you right here on the Disney Parks Blog. While there are a lot of exciting things on the horizon for Disney Cruise Line, to start us off, I wanted to pass along 12 things I’ve learned in 12 years of cruising! Disney cruises aren’t just for kids: Did you know that in all of my cruises, I have NEVER sailed with someone under the age of 18? While I am so looking forward to the day when I can bring my niece and nephew on a Disney cruise, the adults-only areas of the ship and Castaway Cay lend itself nicely to a unique vacation experience where you can do as much – or as little – as you want. Everyone enjoys Disney cruises: While I have a core group of friends that I travel with, there have been quite a few others that have joined us over the last decade on various trips. They vary in age range, occupation and interests, but there is one thing they’ve all had in common – they have all had a great time onboard and text me at least three times a month with, “when are we going on our next Disney cruise???” My dad loved that he could watch college football on a recent Saturday out at sea, while I have other friends who wake up as the sun rises every day just to get the best seats by the Quiet Cove Pool. The all-inclusive nature of a Disney cruise, coupled with the variety of activities onboard, means that you can do whatever floats your boat (no pun intended). You actually can work out: The fact is, I love working out at home, and I feel much better eating 3.5 desserts every day if I at least keep up my workout routine while I am at sea. The fitness rooms are spacious, have great views and the trainers are very friendly and helpful. Whether you choose to take a spin class (shoutout to Thomas on the Disney Dream for the killer class last weekend) or run in the open air on Deck 4 (but why would you want to do that when there’s Thomas??), there are many reasons to take your tennis shoes out of the suitcase on your next cruise vacation! Go to the spa drawing: Speaking of the gym, did you know that on embarkation day, there is a drawing in the Senses Spa to give away packages and gifts? Whether you win or not, this is also a great way to say that you actually did make it to the gym while on your cruise. Go to Palo: One of the biggest things I’ve learned in the last 12 years is that I love a good filet with gorgonzola cheese sauce, and I have none other than Palo to thank for that. And if you’re trying to decide whether you should book dinner or brunch, my answer is simply… yes. Eat ice cream: OK, so I know I told you earlier to work out. But DID I MENTION THAT THERE IS ICE CREAM? That’s right – just call up room service to get your favorite Mickey ice cream bars delivered to your stateroom, or head on up to the pool deck where you can enjoy a cone in an assortment of flavors. Everyone can find something to eat: One of thing biggest things I love about Disney Cruise Line is – you guessed it – the food! And what’s not to love? Dinner is always the highlight of my day because as you rotate through the three main dining rooms, your servers travel with you! And even the pickiest of eaters can find something on each menu, which changes every day. Add in complimentary room service, a buffet, quick service options and treats in places like Cove Café, and there’s no shortage of options for even the pickiest of eaters on Disney Cruise Line! Your Navigator app is your best friend: OK, now that the good stuff is out of the way (and by good stuff, I mean food), let’s get to some practical advice. Do yourself a favor before you leave home and download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. This unique app is a lifeline to what’s going on, from the hour-by-hour breakdown of activities, dining room menus and even the capability of messaging other guests onboard at no additional charge! The shows appeal to everyone: Not only are there Broadway-style shows on Disney Cruise Line, but each ship has a different lineup and one “signature” performance. These shows are enough to make a rambunctious child sit still for one hour, a dad tear up or if they have the same effect on you that they have on me, you will just want to go back to your stateroom to watch On Demand Disney movies the rest of the night. Castaway Cay is magical: I recently went to Castaway Cay and captioned my photo on social media – “The Cay to my heart.” That pretty much sums it up, folks! Port Adventures can be the key to a great experience: Whether it’s sailing around an island for a day, having a tour guide bring you to a waterfall in the middle of the rainforest or taking a cooking class in Tuscany, I have found that port excursions offer opportunities to experience things while traveling that I would never be able to pull off myself. Cruising is a great way to see places you never would otherwise: Because of Disney Cruise Line, I have walked the black sand beaches of the Canary Islands, rode a camel in Tunisia, Africa, dodged monkeys at the top of the Rock of Gibraltar, met lifelong friends and even witnessed the day when my best friend met her now-husband. I can’t wait to see where Disney Cruise Line takes me next! View the full article
  8. The holidays are almost here and I am SO READY! One of things I’m most excited for this year is the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, which runs from November 18 through December 30, 2018. Celebrating joyous holiday traditions from around the globe, this festival returns to Epcot once again with festivities including the ever-popular Candlelight Processional (starting Nov. 22) as well as festive decorations and unforgettable entertainment. But we all know what I’m here for – the FOOD! With 12 Holiday Kitchens as well as additional locations throughout the park, there are deliciously festive dishes around every corner. New at this year’s festival, we’ve got a host of new items at Feast of the Three Kings as well as a WHOLE NEW HOLIDAY KITCHEN! The new L’Chaim! Holiday Kitchen features traditional Jewish dishes such as Pastrami on Rye, Chicken and Matzo Ball Soup, Egg Cream, and more. And what would the holidays be without cookies? You won’t want to miss out on the official Holiday Cookie Stroll! Purchase any 5 cookies from any of the official cookie stroll locations noted in your Passport, making sure to collect a matching stamp for each cookie purchased. Once you’ve collected 5 stamps, bring the stamped Passport to Holiday Sweets & Treats for a complimentary completer cookie! How fun is that? This fun activity is great for the kids, and can be completed at your own leisure. You can also bring back your stamped Passport to Epcot at any time during the festival to complete your stroll. If you’re wanting all of the info on the menus for this year’s Epcot International Festival of the Holidays, I’ve put together this foodie guide just for you! This list is fresh out of the oven and is jam-packed with unique dishes and holiday cocktails and beverages as well as the classics like cookies, eggnog, gingerbread treats, hot cocoa, and more. 16. Take note, a new entrance for vehicles at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is opening on November 8, 2018, changing how guests arrive and access parking at the theme park. As many readers know, we’re currently reimagining Disney’s Hollywood Studios and preparing for the park’s exciting 30th anniversary in 2019. Along with the work, we are also transforming the park’s arrival experience to make it easier and more convenient to come and go. Look at our map and you’ll see the transportation change you need to be aware of. Beginning November 8, guests driving to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will use the new entrance and exit located off of Osceola Parkway. The current main entrance off World Drive and Osceola Parkway will be repurposed for Disney cast members only and the satellite entrance on Buena Vista Drive will be dedicated to buses. When the new entrance opens, drivers will just need to spot one of the many updated roadway signs throughout the Walt Disney World Resort to easily navigate to the Disney Hollywood Studios parking lot. Vehicles coming from southbound Victory Way will also find a connecting road leading to the park. Keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for future updates on work to improve the arrival experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including expanded parking, adjusted tram lanes, additional bus parking and the Disney Skyliner. 23. We recently shared the news that Disney parks around the world are celebrating 90 years of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse with special surprises and events. Today we’re happy to share a sneak peek at the fancy fashions Mickey and Minnie will wear for the celebration at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resort and Disney Cruise Line. Mickey Mouse’s crisp white suit will feature a shower of colorful confetti, while fashion icon Minnie Mouse will don a puff-sleeve dress adorned with pompons and a buoyant bubble skirt for the celebration at some of our parks. According to Senior Costume Designer Joe Kucharski, their outfits will reflect the party spirit of the celebration. “The looks that Mickey and Minnie will be wearing to celebrate their 90th anniversary represent all of the colorful exuberance of a party and birthday party decorations, complete with confetti, balloons, pompons, streamers and more!” he said. “These playful bursts of color and texture are set against crisp white, meant to evoke the nostalgic feeling of frosting, crisp linens and tissue paper.” The new outfits will be seen at Walt Disney World Resort in “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party,” opening January 18 during Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration at Magic Kingdom Park – a limited-time celebration that will include new entertainment, merchandise and specialty food and beverage. 24. Coral Reef Restaurant is a table service option in Epcot’s Future World at Walt Disney World. Learn About: Coral Reef Restaurant Epcot Restaurants Disney World Restaurants As you might imagine, Coral Reef is located in the Seas Pavilion, home of The Seas with Nemo and Friends. It’s one of only two table service restaurants in Future World — the other being Garden Grill in the neighboring Land Pavilion. The biggest draw to Coral Reef is the centerpiece of the restaurant: the six-million-gallon aquarium where fish, sea turtles, and (sometimes) divers swim by throughout the meal. But even with that draw — making Coral Reef a truly unique Disney World experience! — Coral Reef often sinks to the bottom of DFB’s rankings of table service restaurants. Sadly the food just hasn’t been that great over the years. Lunch in 2014 was decent at best, with the Seared Mahi Mahi being the only I’d-get-that-again dish (alas, the Sriracha Shrimp we enjoyed on that visit are no longer on the menu…). But you know we like to re-review restaurants on the regular, since chefs, menus, and servers change up regularly. My most recent visit was the best I’ve had in terms of food, and while it won’t move Coral Reef up to the top of the list at Epcot — admittedly a difficult park because there are so many awesome choices — it gives me hope that maybe the restaurant is providing a better experience for guests. Coral Reef Atmosphere The atmosphere of Coral Reef is the star of this restaurant, and for those who love sea life or aquariums, this really is a must-try. Nothing quite compares to the beauty of dining with only eight inches of glass between the diner and the sealife. Aquarium views The stadium seating here is designed to provide views, even if you’re not immediately tank-adjacent. Coral Reef Seating in front of aquarium Coral Reef Dining Room Details from the entrance through the dining space emphasize the seas, with mosaics, carpeting, fabrics, and lighting designed to submerge you in the theme. Octopus at check-in counter Ceiling light effects Light Fixture And if you and your crew want to learn a thing or two during your meal, you can search for creatures using this handy Fish Guide! Fish Guide So which of these gilled friends will end up on the plate (ouch!)? Thankfully none of them, but their cousins aren’t so lucky! Let’s take a look at the menu. Eats The menu at Coral Reef has changed a lot over the years, with only a handful of starters and entrees. Even with its limited offerings, Coral Reef does have a decent variety, with fish and seafood dominating but turf-based dishes (and a vegan entree) available as well. Lobster Macaroni and Cheese is a popular option. Coral Reef Menu Meals here start with bread and butter, and even this staple has changed with the times. Current bread is rustic, floury rolls, thick and warm. Bread and Butter Butter here used to be sprinkled with black sea salt, but that’s no longer the case. This is a straight-forward way to start the meal. Bread and Butter The Crispy Rhode Island Calamari is a much better start! This fried squid dish is crispy, as advertised, and topped with Roasted Corn Relish and Tomatillo Sauce. This is packed with flavor and textures. Awesome way to start the meal! Crispy Rhode Island Calarmari The Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli is another starter option, but it’s heavy enough to work as an entree (perhaps particularly for vegetarians — sans prosciutto! — as there’s only one veg option in the entree section). Opinions at my table were split on this one. I thought it was a little bland and heavy, but my dining companion loved it — it was her favorite dish of the meal. Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli The ravioli are served with Artichoke, Leek, and Dill Cream and topped with Baby Asparagus, Prosciutto Chips, and Balsamic Glaze. The Balsamic Glaze carries a good amount of flavor, but the rest of the flavors were washed out, for me. But, again: my companion loved it, so it’s worth a try if this sounds like something you’d enjoy! Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli For the carnivores there’s this 10-ounce Top Grilled Sirloin Steak served with delicious Garlic and Rosemary Potatoes, Creamed Spinach, and Bercy Butter. The potatoes tasted like twice-baked potatoes and had a nice richness of flavor. The spinach was fine but not remarkable. The Bercy Butter is a great addition! It’s a compound butter loaded with the flavors of shallots and white wine. 10-ounce Top Grilled Sirloin Steak The steak itself was not a winner. It was tougher than I’d like, and the flavors just weren’t there. This is definitely not a steakhouse steak, but if you must have red meat at Coral Reef, this will fill the role. The stand-out of the meal, though was the Shrimp and Grits! These were truly fantastic and worth coming back for. The Sauteed Shrimp, Local Corn Succotash, Andouille Sausage, and Creole Spice Emulsion top faaaaaabulous Cheddar Cheese Grits. Shrimp and Grits Seriously. The grits and the emulsion on top — which was like a spicy aioli — make the dish. Shrimp and Cheddar Cheese Grits Desserts at Coral Reef have been mediocre at best in the past, and this visit was pretty much par for the course. Many readers recommend the Baileys and Jack Daniel’s Mousse, and I totally should’ve listened to you guys! Dessert Menu I went with the Key Lime Tart, which should surprise no one. I typically enjoy the tart flavor of key limes, and this was all right, though not a stand-out. Key Lime Tart This Key Lime Tart incorporates other fruity flavors in the Strawberry Sauce, Tropical Fruit Glaze, and Boba Pearls. Key Lime Tart The disk on top was tasty, and the key lime did work with the rest of the flavors. I appreciated the effort with the white chocolate shard, but it just wasn’t a wow. It was fine, and that’s sort of a sad way to describe dessert. Key Lime Tart The Turtle Cheesecake presents really well, with Pecan Florentine, Chocolate and Caramel Ganache, and Caramel Sauce. There are lots of pastry techniques at play here, and some good contrasts in texture. Turtle Cheesecake The pastry sea turtle and blue sugar wave are cute additions that play into the theme of the restaurant (isn’t there something fun about eating a pastry turtle whilst watching a sea turtle swim by?). Turtle Cheesecake But, again, this wasn’t a stellar dessert. Nothing stood out to us screaming “come back and eat this again.” It was humdrum. Turtle Cheesecake In the future, I’ll get the mousse to give that a try — or maybe I’ll just stop at the grits because yum! Nosh or Not? Swim into Coral Reef Restaurant if: the appeal of dining adjacent to a massive aquarium is irresistible. you have little ones that will be sufficiently entertained by the aquarium that you’ll be able to sit in peace and enjoy a meal. you’re into seafood, and want to try all of the options at Walt Disney World. you want to try all of the table service restaurants at Epcot. Stay on the shore if: you prefer to enjoy table service meals that are more consistently delicious. you don’t care for the aquarium setting (or you just don’t want to look a fish in the eye while you’re… you know… eating one). quick service meals fit your touring schedule better. you prefer to eat your way around World Showcase instead. Overall So here’s the thing: Coral Reef Restaurant has never been at the top of our lists of dining options at Epcot. With so many options just a quick walk away in World Showcase, it’s hard to decide to eat in a restaurant that’s inconsistent, at best. So while this meal experience was better than ones I’ve had in the past, I still rank it close to the bottom of my list of table service restaurants at Epcot. I know, that’s kind of sad. Especially because the draw of dining in the aquarium is really appealing. If you’ve got kiddos or adults who absolutely love the Seas Pavilion and sea life in general, it is definitely worth a try. But with so many dishes being hit-or-miss, you’ll want to temper your expectations a bit. See all of Epcot’s table service restaurants ranked in this DFB Guide YouTube video!
