Foot Long Corn Dog What’s New in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland The refurbishment continues at Cosmic Rays’s Starlight Cafe. Bays 1 and 2 are now open, along with the restrooms, but you’ll now find Bay 3 and the seating area that leads up to the restroom hallway are closed. Cosmic Ray’s Bay 3 Closed for Refurbishment Cosmic Rays Refurbishment With one of the bays being closed you’ll find the other two bays very busy at popular meal times. It’s time to put on your hula skirt (or at least your stretchy pants!) and surf on into the newly reopened Tangaroa Terrace! This quick service spot located at the Disneyland Hotel has a fresh new look — and lots of tasty eats (including Dole Whip!) on the also refreshed menu! Welcome Back, Tangaroa Terrace! See a photo tour of Tangaroa Terrace HERE! The lunch and dinner menu here has retained some of our old favorites (like Panko-Crusted Long Beans!) and added some newbies. Come along as we dig into LUNCH at Tangaroa Terrace! Lunch at Tangaroa Terrace We already gave you a review of the breakfast goodies here, but two of our team members (including our intrepid Disneyland correspondent Heather (aloha, @DiningInDisney!)) stopped into Tangaroa Terrace to show us what’s on the menu for lunch and dinner, too! Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Lunch/Dinner Menu Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill Lunch/Dinner Menu Believe it or not, this tropical-inspired locale has introduced a Kalua Style Pork Poutine! Kalua Style Pork Poutine Once relegated to the tables of French Canadians, this French fry-based delicacy has become a true Disney trend (you can read about Disney World’s obsession with poutine here!), and is given a decidedly island spin at Tangaroa. Kalua style pulled pork tops the fries, and plenty of awesome, colorful stuff tops the pork, too! Cheese curds and brown gravy — traditional poutine components — are here, plus pickled onions, Fresno chilies, and cilantro. It’s a wild combination that somehow works! Kalua Style Pork Poutine We loooooove the base of crinkle fries, which are super crisp and sturdy enough for the toppings (even though very unconventional for traditional poutine). The most powerful flavor is the pickled onions, which add acidity that’s not typical of poutine. For $12, this was a great value — especially since it’s definitely big enough to share. The Fried Spam Musubi is a classic island treat that’s… well, let’s say it’s just not for everyone. In Hawaii, this is often eaten as a snack or lunch, and we love the twist Tangaroa has put on this by deep frying it for a terrific outer layer of crunch. So satisfying. The Spam Musubi part of this is comprised of three ingredients: a slice of pan-fried Spam, some sticky white rice, and a nori wrapper. Fried Spam Musubi Essentially what Tangaroa has created is a Spam sandwich using rice instead of bread. The nori wrapper encircles the ‘sandwich’. The entire thing is coated panko breadcrumbs and deep fried. If you like Spam… and nori… and rice-heavy dishes… you’ll totally be into this! For us, it wasn’t our favorite. Still, it’s fun to try something that’s really location-specific — a Hawaiian delicacy, if you will. Of course, for $11 this might be too rich for a snack you’re trying just for fun. Fried Spam Musubi Shipwreck Nachos are a cool twist on a bar favorite. A bed of crispy tortilla chips is loaded with Kalua style pork, pineapple salsa, hoisin sauce, scallions, Togarashi aioli, and barbecue sauce. This is a texture and flavor mash-up we can’t get enough of. Seriously: it’s hard to stop eating these once you start. Shipwreck Nachos For a lighter option, go with the Lentil Garden Bowl. Black lentil and brown rice form the base, and fresh chickpeas, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and red onion are piled on top. Coconut curry dressing and cilantro finish this off. Lentil Garden Bowl This is a tasty option for those who are determined to eat healthy, even in the face of many delicious, less health-conscious choices. It wasn’t our favorite, but it’s a great addition to round out the menu. Lentil Garden Bowl Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings are not new to the menu here, but we’re glad they’re back! A pile of wings get a dip in a thick sauce that is more sweet than spicy. There’s more Togarashi aioli on the side here, which adds a flavorful cooling option for the subtle spice. (For those wondering, Togarashi is a Japanese 7-spice blend that includes chilies, sesame, orange peel, nori and more.) Overall these are good wings: tasty, cooked well, and appropriately messy to eat. Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings We love the Panko-Crusted Long Beans, so we’re really happy they’re back! These have an awesome crunch and a tasty breading that’s good even without the (ubiquitous) Togarashi aioli that’s served on the side. Panko-Crusted Long Beans Yeah, we could eat a couple orders of these and be totally happy. And even though that Togarashi aioli seems to be everywhere on the menu here, we love it, so we’re totally fine with that. Panko-Crusted Long Beans Another returning favorite: Pork Gyoza. These are pork dumplings; gyoza is the term for this particular kind of Japanese dumpling wrapper. Pork Gyoza These are dusted with… Togarashi seasoning. And they’re perfectly formed and cooked. The bottoms have that quintessential pot sticker crust. Pork Gyoza The filling is pork and vegetable, with plenty of seasoning like garlic and ginger. Ponzu sauce on the side makes a nice, salty partner. Pork Gyoza Garlic-Chili Edamame is actually a perfect bar food. The portion size on the steamed soybean pods is great for grazing, and you know it’s a party when there’s an empty bowl for pods. Garlic-Chili Edamame The seasoning on these is abundant and delicious. These are pretty healthy, but they’re also pretty addicting. And if you’re just stopping in for a snack at Tangaroa, the Edamame will make a light eat that won’t weigh you down for the rest of your day. Garlic-Chili Edamame We are SO HAPPY Tangaroa Terrace has reopened! Not only is the space bright and fresh, but the food is, too! Even the heavier options — like Shipwreck Nachos and Kalua Style Pork Poutine — have enough freshness to keep things bright and refreshing. It’s back! Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill has reopened at Disneyland Hotel, and we are stoked! This quick service, fast casual restaurant brings an island vibe to breakfast, lunch, dinner, and grab-and-go in a refreshed space that’s a colorful homage to the islands! Tangaroa Terrace Tangaroa Toast There’s a straightforward Breakfast Platter with eggs, hash browns, bacon, and fruit; but if you want to ride the wave of flavor, go for the Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes! Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes How fun are these? A full wheel of sweet pineapple is cooked into the trio of pancakes themselves, and a bright red maraschino cherry is placed in the center — totally capturing the spirit of the famous pineapple upside down cake on which these are modeled. Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes We loved the strong pineapple flavor — and there’s no escaping it, so if you’re on the fence about pineapple, these aren’t for you. But pineapple fans: dig in! We would definitely get these again! Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes The Breakfast Sandwich at Tangaroa has a deceptively simple name for a funky, delicious dish! This is a hashbrown topped with Kalua style pulled pork, brown gravy, and a fried egg. Chives add a little freshness — but have no doubt: this will stick to your ribs! Breakfast Sandwich We were surprised to find that these seemingly disparate components really work well together! The crispy hashbrown is a great base for the meat and gravy, and the egg works with them as well! Breakfast Sandwich But look: grab some napkins. And a fork and knife. The Breakfast Sandwich is not something you’ll want to walk around and eat. Embrace the mess, enjoy a leisurely meal on the patio at Tangaroa, and then let it fuel your fun all day long! There are sure signs Hollywood Studios is getting ready for Lightning McQueen to race into the park on March 31! And by signs, we mean literal signs! Coming Soon! Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy!! Ka-Chow! Some new posters have popped up at Sunset Showcase promoting the brand new attraction — and confirming its location. If you aren’t certain where Sunset Showcase is, it’s tucked away at the end of Sunset Boulevard past the entrance to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. With that location, it means the current Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster FastPass+ line is closed and has been re-located to accommodate the new Lightning McQueen entrance. There’s a new sheriff in town on this popcorn bucket in Hollywood Studios! But Woody isn’t the only Pixar character on these souvenir containers! Howdy from Woody on the new Popcorn Buckets These buckets star an abundance of Pixar characters all over Disney World. There’s Wall-E‘s Eve at Space Mountain, Woody, Slinky Dog at where else but Slinky Dog Dash, and we even see the silhouette of Big Thunder Mountain. With a turn of the bucket we see the house from Up taking flight, the Tree of Life, Rex, Heimlich from A Bug’s Life, and Fro-Zone. Rex says Hello! The last group we see featured are a high-flying Jack-Jack, Luxo the Pixar ball, Remy snacking on that awesome flavored popcorn in Epcot (Remy used DFB’s tip to mix the flavors!), Epcot’s Norway and France pavilions represented, plus Cinderella Castle. That’s right, Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar & Grill has officially reopened at the Disneyland Hotel at the Disneyland Resort! After an exciting refurbishment, the fast-casual restaurant has a vibrant new look, expanded offerings and is back and serving up made-to-order dishes, signature tiki cocktails, Dole Whip and more! Tangaroa Terrace, inspired by Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, is the perfect tropical complement to the mid-century modern architecture of the Disneyland Hotel. This island paradise combines traditional motifs from many Pacific islands such as Hawaii, Tahiti, Fiji, Sumatra and New Guinea. Inside, new décor details feature a colorful tropical mural with “hidden” tiki room birds (can you find them all?), bamboo accents, exotic stone countertops and glass fish net float lights, with open air views of the pool. Outdoors, guests enjoy an expanded new patio with brightly colored rattan lounge chairs, tiki bar stools and a communal table for fun, inviting ways to enjoy sunshine and the island vibes. Throughout the day, guests can snack on freshly prepared hot and cold dishes all day long. For breakfast (served until 11am), chow down on a classic Breakfast Platter with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns or bite into a Breakfast Sandwich with kālua-style pulled pork, fried egg, hash browns, and gravy. Sweet options include the Açai Chia Breakfast Bowl with seasonal fruit and granola and Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes. One of my FAVORITE breakfast dishes of all time can also be found here – Tangaroa Toast! This brick toast comes coated in cinnamon sugar, and topped with bananas Foster, whipped cream, bananas, and toasted coconut. If your mouth is watering from the breakfast menu, just wait until you feast your eyes (and taste buds) on the lunch and dinner menu! Sharable options include dishes such as the Kālua-style Poutine (crispy crinkle fries topped with pork, cheese curds, gravy, pickled onions, and Fresno chiles – YUM) and the Pu Pu Platter, which is another one of my favorites! The platter comes with Chili-Garlic Edamame, Pork Gyoza (pork and vegetable pot stickers), Sweet-and-Spicy Chicken Wings, and Panko-crusted Long Beans served with togarashi aïoli; all four can also be ordered individually. And if nachos are more your style, you can snack on the Shipwreck Nachos topped with kālua-style pulled pork, pineapple salsa, hoisin sauce, togarashi aïoli, and barbecue sauce. And of course, you can’t go wrong with the Chili-Garlic Edamame (it’s included in the Pu Pu Platter, but you know you’re going to want more!) – young soybeans steamed and tossed with chili-garlic sauce – or even the Fried Spam Musubi served with teriyaki sauce! Other dishes include a Lentil Garden Bowl with brown rice, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and onions tossed in coconut curry; the Tangaroa Salad with sautéed shrimp; and an Angus 1/3 lb. Hawaiian Cheeseburger served with grilled pineapple, Applewood-smoked bacon, Havarti cheese, togarashi aïoli, and teriyaki sauce. Kids can enjoy their own smaller-portioned versions of these tropical bites. For breakfast, the Kid’s Breakfast Platter and the Kid’s Pineapple Upside-Down Pancake are great options. They can even get the Kid’s Mickey-shaped Tangaroa Toast! All three dishes are served with turkey bacon and fresh fruit. For lunch and dinner, the kiddos can munch on a yummy Grilled Salmon Bowl, a Kid’s Cheeseburger, and the ever-so-popular and tasty Chicken Breast Nuggets. The restaurant also offers a newly-enhanced marketplace for grab-and-go pastries and snacks, specialty coffees, pineapple Dole Whip soft serve, Dole Whip floats and Dole Whip floats with a splash of rum, plus a full bar of island cocktails. Mobile ordering is available at this location as well, so if you’re on-the-go, you can enjoy the convenience of ordering and paying for your meal via the Disneyland Resort app without having to wait in line! We’ve spotted the Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Resort Hotel versions of the new reusable shopping bags that are popping up in each park and resort. Now we’ve found Magic Kingdom’s reusable shopping bags! Magic Kingdom Reusable Shopping Bags The bags are a part of Disney’s efforts to reduce the use of single use plastic products in the parks — including shopping bags and straws. The Magic Kingdom bag highlights three classic attractions — Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and “it’s a small world” — and like the other park bags also includes a giant, smiling Mickey Mouse. The reverse side of the bag stars, of course, Cinderella Castle with fireworks in the background. Magic Kingdom Reusable Shopping Bags Like all the other bags, the prices range from $1-$2 depending on the size you select. Magic Kingdom Reusable Shopping Bags In our experience, the bags still aren’t being “pushed” by cast members. There’s no problem with still receiving a regular plastic bag for your purchase. In fact, we’ve actually had a cast member ask us if we wanted them to put the reusable bag we were purchasing into a regular plastic bag. So…seems like plastic bags are still safe for the moment. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is one of my favorite parks. I first visited on opening day – May 1, 1989 – and can hardly believe it’s been 30 years! There’s always something new to see and do, and now more than ever, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the perfect place to step into the amazing worlds of Pixar stories like “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story,” and very soon, “Cars.” An Incredible Celebration brings a Municiberg city block from Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” to life with a hometown celebration honoring the city’s super heroes – and the hero in all of us! Get caught up in the excitement of “The Super Shindig” featuring Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible and Frozone. You may even find yourself on TV, thanks to the local news crew. “The Super Shindig” is filled with music, dancing, interactive games, and tons of super fun! Disney Parks is a shopper’s paradise with hundreds of unique stores that offer unforgettable souvenirs and memorable gifts for loved ones. Guests visiting Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort now have a new option for carrying home purchases with the release of colorful reusable shopping bags. Available for a nominal fee and offered in three sizes, these reusable shopping bags are made of 80% recycled materials, and are similar to reusable bags first introduced at the World of Disney stores last fall. Bags will feature Disney character designs mixed with recognizable icons from Disney Parks. At Disneyland Resort, Guests will find four bags – one each for Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park; a bag for Downtown Disney District and Resort Hotels; and the current World of Disney bag. At Walt Disney World Resort, there will be seven bags introduced: a bag at each of the four theme parks; a bag for owned-and-operated shops at Disney Springs; a shared Walt Disney World Resort-inspired bag for Resort Hotels, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and other merchandise locations; and the existing World of Disney bag.
