One of the most exciting things about Disney+ is the ability to bring a full dose of Disney magic right to the comfort of your own home, allowing everyone to enjoy #DisneyMagicMoments with families, friends and fans. For those of us looking to welcome a piece of Disney Parks into our daily lives, we’ve created a list of some of the movies, shows and shorts inspired by favorite Disneyland park experiences — all available right now on Disney+. With that, let’s take a tour around Disneyland park! While we’re away, check out these titles that may bring you closer to the beloved park we can’t wait to get back to visiting. Tomorrowland: “Finding Nemo,” “The Rocketeer” and “Expedition Mars: Spirit & Opportunity” Whether you like to start your day with a journey deep under the ocean on Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, sky high on Astro Orbitor or even further into space exploring Mars, the spirit of Tomorrowland and its mission to explore new frontiers of science, adventure and the future is the perfect place to start our list! Fantasyland: “Sleeping Beauty,” “Pinocchio” and “Peter Pan” Right in the heart of Disneyland park lies Fantasyland, the fairytale village that brings to life the wonder and magic of some of our favorite Walt Disney Animation Studios classic films. We can start with the icon of the park, Sleeping Beauty Castle, and then work our way through Pinocchio’s Daring Journey and Peter Pan’s Flight for some whimsical, classic animation. Frontierland: “Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier,” “Pocahontas” and “The Adventures of Huck Finn” Next, let’s venture out to the wild, wild west for those who love the thrilling Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Frontierland’s tribute to the pioneers and trail blazers bring us to films like “Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier” and “Pocahontas,” then across the river to Tom Sawyer Island with “The Adventures of Huck Finn.” Mickey’s Toontown: “DuckTales,” “A Goofy Movie” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” To visit the zany stories of Mickey and friends in their very own toon world, there’s a great selection of Disney classics about the whole gang. You can follow along with the adventures of Huey, Dewey and Louie in their show or go on a wild road trip with Goofy and his son Max. You can even revisit the classic Toontown attraction with “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” Love being able to live out your very own Star Wars adventure during your trip to the Disneyland Resort? Look no further than Episode VII and Episode III of the epic Skywalker saga for a reminder of your adventures at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. You can even find Hondo Ohnaka from your adventures on Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” Critter Country: “Zootopia,” “Winnie the Pooh” and “Bambi” A trip to Critter Country wouldn’t be complete without thinking about the critters that live in Zootopia and the Hundred Acre Woods. With films like “Bambi,” “Zootopia” and “Winnie the Pooh,” you’re sure to find many animal friends who will remind you of your favorite park memories. New Orleans Square: “The Princess and the Frog,” Pirates of the Caribbean and “The Haunted Mansion” To capture the spirit and vibrancy of “The Big Easy,” you can’t forget the Disney animated hit “The Princess and the Frog” for an instant trip to the French Quarter complete with street musicians and Mickey-shaped beignets. For films inspired by some the Disneyland attractions themselves, check out the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films and “The Haunted Mansion.” Adventureland: “Tarzan,” “The Jungle Book” and “Monkey Kingdom” Last but not least, we round out our trip around Disneyland park with a dose of adventure. From climbing trees in the jungle with Tarzan and Jane or Mowgli and Baloo to a real-life look at a young monkey and her son living in ancient ruins, there’s plenty of adventure in store! Now more than ever, families around the world are finding new and exciting ways to spend time together… and apart. Soaking up all of the great Disney stories on Disney+ reminds us that our best Disney Parks memories can still be brought to life every day. When you’re packing for your next trip to Disney World, there are some things you might want to leave at home! Epcot Disney is notorious for going the extra mile to make guests happy. But that doesn’t mean you’ll never hear the word “no” in Disney World! There are several things that Disney has BANNED from the parks. You won’t get these things through the gates no matter how much you sweet-talk security! Drones Thinking about bringing your drone to snag some awesome aerial shots of the parks? Think again! Some parts of Disney World including the Magic Kingdom, sections of Epcot, and some of the resort areas are official no-fly zones. But even if you’re not located in one of the no-fly zones, security still won’t allow guests to fly drones on property! Cinderella Castle The ban is due to security concerns (which is a trend you’ll see with many items on this list). So, leave the drones at home and stick to photos you can capture from the ground! Click here to see how else Disney is working to make sure guests stay safe! Political Signs Another no-no in the parks — political signs! Disney doesn’t allow guests to display any political banners on property. And don’t try to get around it under the guise of a Mrs. Banks costume! Costumes aren’t allowed for guests ages 14 and older (with the exception of some special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party)! ©Disney While this might seem like a ban that goes without saying, there have been instances of guests violating this rule in the past. So keep your campaign materials at home, we’re pretty sure Magic Kingdom is in good hands with Cinderella and Prince Charming at the wheel! Here are some essentials you SHOULD pack in your park bag! Selfie Sticks When selfie sticks first made their debut, guests were able to bring them to the parks. And boy, did they! But, as the trend grew, Disney realized the issues with tons of guests waving around metal rods. So now, selfie sticks are banned from the parks! Mickey Mouse Think about a guest pulling one out on a thrill ride like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or Expedition Everest — YIKES! Even if you’re not on a high-speed attraction, you could still end up with a pretty decent bump if someone is waving one around in a crowded area! Here are some fun Magic Shot PhotoPass pics we’ve found in Magic Kingdom! Folding Chairs If we had a dollar for every time we found ourselves wanting a chair while staking out a viewing spot for Happily Ever After, or Festival of Fantasy, we could book our own VIP Tour! But there’s a good reason we haven’t given in to the temptation. Guests aren’t allowed to bring folding chairs into the parks! Festival of Fantasy Parade As harmless as a chair may seem, they cause a potential tripping hazard and block walkways (which are already congested)! If you want to get a good Happily Ever After viewing spot without having to stake it out for hours, consider a Fireworks Dessert Party! Click here to learn more about the Fireworks Dessert Party options! Glass Containers Guests are allowed to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages into the parks as long as they aren’t in a glass container! Of course, the concern here is the potential danger of broken glass. Disney does make an exception for small containers, like baby food jars. Skyliner Water Bottle Glass containers are fine in the hotels (but not by the pool!), so they aren’t completely banned from Disney property. Just make sure to leave them out of your park bag! Check out our ultimate Disney packing list here! Skateboards and Rollerblades Leave your wheels at home! Skateboards, scooters, in-line skates, and shoes with built-in wheels are all off-limits on Disney property. But if you want to go for a leisurely ride, bicycles are permitted within designated Disney Resort areas. In fact, you can even rent bikes at some Disney hotels! Surrey Bike Disney doesn’t want guests to take a spill or run into other guests so these pieces of extreme sports equipment aren’t welcome on property! Check out these ideas for spending a day outside of the parks at Disney! Weapons This might be the most obvious item on our list. Weapons of any kind are prohibited throughout Disney property. That includes firearms, ammunition, and knives, as well as self-defense and restraining devices like pepper spray and tasers. Galaxy’s Edge This ban also includes toys that look like weapons, so if your kiddo is dressing up as Sheriff Woody, be sure to leave the cap gun at home! The one notable exception to this ban — toy lightsabers are allowed. See what it’s like to build your own lightsaber in Galaxy’s Edge here! Artificial Noise Makers There’s already a lot going on at Disney World without guests adding their own soundtrack! So it’s probably for the best that Disney has banned horns, whistles, large megaphones, and artificial noisemakers from the parks. Move It! Shake It! Dance It! Street Party Noise makers could seriously take away from the parades, fireworks, and entertainment that Disney works so hard to deliver. So we can definitely get behind this ban! Guests can enjoy tons of entertainment at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party! Check it out here! Pets Disney does offer a few pet-friendly hotels, but animals aren’t permitted in the parks! They do make exceptions for service animals, but emotional support, comfort, and companion animals DO NOT meet the criteria to enter the parks. Hi Pluto! So if you see a furry friend in any of the parks, that doggy must be on duty! You can get your animal fix in Disney World with this AWESOME tour! Smoking This is a relatively recent ban, so if you haven’t been to Disney World in a few years, you may have missed it! As of May 1, 2019, smoking was banned inside all of the Disney World parks. But that doesn’t mean there’s no smoking allowed anywhere on Disney property! There are smoking areas provided outside the main entrances of the theme parks, at the hotels, and in Disney Springs. Epcot When you’re packing your park bag, don’t forget this list of things behind! We appreciate that Disney does their best to keep all of their guests safe and happy, so we’re definitely willing to respect these rules! Check out these policy changes that Disney World implemented last year! Are there any other items you think should be banned in the Disney parks? Let us know in the comments! When Bob Iger suddenly announced he was stepping down from Disney’s Chief Executive Officer, the news came as a surprise to many. Bob Iger It’s true that we already knew Iger had plans to retire in 2021, but why was he calling it quits so early? Retirement Delays to Quick Change? Originally, Iger’s last day as CEO for The Walt Disney Company was slated for December 31st, 2021. Previously he had extended his contract with Disney twice before, most recently in 2017 after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox as part of the negotiations for the purchase. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge However, Iger assured Disney’s board he would undoubtedly be turning over the reins this last time when his tenure expired. So why after not being able to step away from Disney on two separate occasions did Iger suddenly leave his post almost two years prematurely? Was the Timing Just a Coincidence? Iger’s untimely departure could just be total happenstance. There’s no evidence that Iger decided to step down when he did because of any mitigating factors. That being said, Iger did have situational awareness of what was occurring with overseas Disney parks in China, Tokyo, and France before the current situation struck here in the United States. Mickey and Minnie at Skyliner’s Opening Day Ceremony The parks in China and Japan had closed their doors months prior to us hearing any talk in the United States of something similar happening, but Iger certainly had a heavy hand in many of those decisions. Did Iger step down out of growing global health concerns? Or was something more at play? It’s possible we’ll never know the answer for sure, but arguments can be made for two possible scenarios. Did Iger Want To Quit While He Was Ahead… During Iger’s 15-year stint as Disney’s CEO, he built Disney’s IPs substantially, playing a critical role in acquiring Pixar, Marvel, and LucasFilm. Disney’s portfolio was also expanding with the launch of Disney+, and the most recent acquisitions of 21st Century Fox and Hulu. Galaxy’s Edge Wouldn’t Have Been Possible Without Iger’s Work in Acquiring LucasFilm in 2012 According to The Associated Press, 2019 was also a record year at the box office for Disney. Franchise films such as Avengers: Endgame, Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dominated ticket sales, grossing $13 billion worldwide. During his tenure, the Walt Disney Company thrived. Frozen 2 ©Disney On the theme park front, flagship ride Rise of the Resistance had just opened up to rave reviews on both coasts. Future projects were all moving at a solid pace both domestically and internationally. So it’s entirely reasonable to think that Bob Iger saw the company was in good shape and felt the time was right to pass the torch. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge But, Iger did announce his decision to step down on February 25th — a month after he had already closed Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland due to the growing situation. Not to mention the monumental 50th anniversary of Disney World was looming just before his retirement, in the fall of 2021. Wouldn’t he choose to go out on a high note THEN? Why now? This can throw into question his timing and if the decision was made to avoid being the face of the company during an especially trying time. Runaway Railway Dedication Ceremony So maybe he wanted to quit while he felt like he was up? Or maybe, just maybe, he stepped down from the top slot because he saw something bigger was coming and wanted to rearrange the company to best battle the barrage on its way. …Or Was This A Prescient Realignment of Leadership? By now, we’ve already talked about what a creative tour de force Iger was and continues to be at Disney. Since stepping down from CEO, Iger’s taken on the title of executive chairman to “direct Disney’s creative endeavors” — at which he’s proven to be very adept in the past. Taking Iger’s place as CEO is Bob Chapek, who has been with Disney since 1993 and presided over the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts since February 23, 2015, after replacing Tom Staggs. Prior to his former position, Chapek was the president of Disney Consumer Products since September of 2011. Bob Chapek According to Business Insider, Iger said during a call with investors that this decision for his departure was “not accelerated for any particular reason” and that Chapek was identified “quite some time ago” as his likely successor. But the article went on to state that a Rosenblatt Securities analyst noted how much of the Disney CEO’s time and effort would soon need to go to the global health crisis, which would take away from Iger’s ability to focus on the creative endeavors of the company. “Leaving Bob Chapek, a Disney veteran with 27 years with the company, to run the day-to-day business while Bob Iger is still in the building seems like a good reallocation of resources to us.” Bob Chapek at the Hollywood Studios Galaxy’s Edge opening ©Walt Disney Company So, what if this was all a calculated move, but not for the nefarious reasons the situation might suggest? What if the company recognized that they would soon be staring down the barrel of a recession on the heels of closed parks worldwide and significantly debilitated income from nearly all other silos, and determined that Iger’s and Chapek’s unique talents would be best used if realigned? So we’ve noted that Iger clearly has talents in acquisitions, growth, and creative direction. But what about Bob Chapek? Why does it make sense to put him at the helm right now? There seems to be one BIG reason. Yes, he has the logistical experience to fill the role of CEO; but he’s also got the skills to pay the bills if a recession is on the horizon. Chapek is a number cruncher whose ability to manage budgets would be of great benefit to Disney in a down-turned economy. Bob Chapek in Galaxy’s Edge ©Laughing Place He may not have the creative streak and charisma of Iger, but Bob Chapek’s got a way with balance sheets as we can see from the recent, and oft-criticized, tactics of raising ticket prices and readily reorganizing operations at the parks to save or make a dollar. A company in Disney’s situation needs a strong, budget-minded leader at the helm running the day-to-day operations in order to come out bigger and better (or at least not bleeding) in the end. Since this global situation has continued its spread, Disney’s parks and film industries have been the most severely impacted. Perhaps having both Iger and Chapek situated in powerful roles that are uniquely suited to their respective skill sets might have been the strategic Hail Mary Disney needed to get through this. Why Iger Says It Was Time For Him To Step Down, In His Own Words While we may never know if Iger’s decision to step down when he did was a direct result of the worldwide situation or not, we do know this: the former Disney CEO told CNBC, “With everything else falling into place, the time seemed right.” He went on to tell the New York Times he would be focusing on Disney’s creative strategy, and said “I could not do that if I were running the company on a day-to-day basis.” Cinderella Castle Clearly he had no interest in washing his hands of Disney and walking away. Rather he was looking to adjust his outlet within the company. How Disney Is Weathering This Situation, In Their Own Words Let’s take a look at what Disney said to its investors recently, as told by CNBC. “We have closed our theme parks; suspended our cruises and theatrical shows; delayed theatrical distribution of films both domestically and internationally; and experienced supply chain disruption and ad sales impacts. In addition, there has been a disruption in creation and availability of content we rely on for our various distribution paths, including most significantly the cancellation of certain sports events and the shutting down of production of most film and television content.” Main Street, U.S.A We can’t say for sure the motives behind Iger’s decision to step down. But one thing IS for sure: he’s far from retired right now. Iger is actively working with the company, even speaking out as the face of Disney in the midst of his current role, to help push things forward. When Disneyland announced they were initially closing, he was the one to release a statement supporting the state governor and reassuring the public, not Chapek. The public had a developed trust of Iger that is still beneficial to the Walt Disney Company today. While Disney seems to be very aware of the challenges that lie ahead, including changes in consumer behavior and construction projects being delayed in addition to all the other adversity we’ve already mentioned, it may be comforting for Disney fans to know the company has two skilled leaders in place. Were you surprised when you heard Iger was stepping down as CEO? Tell us what you thought of his decision in the comments below. Related posts: Breaking News! Part of the reason why Disney World is such a special experience compared to other theme parks is their attractions’ cutting edge technology. Just look at Rise of the Resistance! Lieutenant Beck on Rise of the Resistance Well, the past few years have brought us some pretty neat Disney technologies! We’re taking a look at some of the newer, more interesting technological advancements to give you some insight into how that awe-inspiring “Disney magic” comes to be. 1. Hybrid A1000 Animatronics Let’s take a look at Hybrid A1000 Animatronics. You might know these robots as being some of the shockingly realistic figures in newer attractions around Disney parks. You can currently spot examples in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with Hondo Ohnaka in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Lieutenant Beck and Kylo Ren on Rise of the Resistance. Kylo Ren Since the 1980s, A100 Animatronics have used hydraulic motors to power their life-like movements. With the opening of Frozen Ever After and Na’vi River Journey, we saw a transition to all-electric animatronics that makes for a much smoother movement. ©Disney Still, these newer A1000 Animatronics are even more advanced. Not only do they have the electric movement, but they also use thin motors called “pancake” motors to achieve realistic movement. Hondo Ohnaka Each of these robots is carefully programmed with advanced software to move along with sound queues. Hondo Ohnaka even walks! In our opinion, the only thing that stands in the way of us thinking that Hondo and other A1000s are real is the fact that their lip movement isn’t quite as precise as a real person (or Weequay, rather). To see more about how these bots work, take a look at this short clip from Walt Disney Imagineering! To learn more about the tech on Rise of the Resistance, watch our video here! 2. Interactive Shadows Next up, we’re talking about some tech that you’ve probably seen if you braved the wait for Peter Pan’s Flight in the last five years! The Peter Pan standby queue was redone to be super neat and interactive. Before you take flight over London and Neverland, you’ll pass by your very own interactive shadow! Peter Pan’s Flight This effect lets you raise your hand to ring shadow bells or bat at shadow butterflies. The catch? None of these bells or butterflies are real so they can’t be casting a shadow — you’re not even casting a shadow! ©Disney A series of complex sensors capture your motion and trigger the bells and butterflies to react accordingly! ©Disney Motion capture has been around for some time, but real-time computerization of that motion capture is pretty new. We will say that Peter Pan’s Flight’s redone queue was probably inspired by the success of the redone queue at Haunted Mansion or the interactive queue on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Hint: You can also check out some real-time motion capture in the preshow area for Flight of Passage when you’re “scanned” to match up with an avatar! For a glimpse at the interactive shadows (and MORE of the fun Peter Pan queue), watch this video from when it first opened! Click here to check out how we feel about the Peter Pan’s Flight queue! 3. Rear Projection Mapping One of our favorite new technologies to see on rides is rear projection mapping. You can see this on a few attractions in Disney World like with the dwarfs on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, the queue Buzz on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, most of the figures in Frozen Ever After, and (most recently) with some characters on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway Disney has been working with projection mapping for some time. You can spot regular projection mapping with Tinkerbell in the Peter Pan queue and more notably on Cinderella Castle during Happily Ever After. This tech allows Imagineers to very precisely map out where a projection will land, allowing for super stunning experiences. Frozen Ever After However, rear projection mapping comes from INSIDE the animatronic’s head! That’s right, there’s a projector inside Doc, and Elsa, and all the other rear-projected characters. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway This effect allows characters to have dynamic facial expressions that appear to respond to the surrounding environment. It really does make it feel like your favorite Disney characters are right in front of you! To see this effect in action for yourself, watch this video about the making of the seven dwarfs animatronics on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! Want to see a surprising way Disney uses projection mapping? Click here! 4. Stuntronics Now we are stepping into the future of Disney technology. Just a few months ago, Disney featured a teaser of their new unprecedented Stuntronics technology. These animatronics can fly through the air and perform — you guessed it — stunts. We may see this guy flipping, somersaulting, and making heroic poses when he debuts in the park. ©Disney Where will he debut, you ask? In Avengers Campus! The new land in Disney California Adventure is set to have a Spider-Man Stuntronic to swing from the rooftops and perform a death-defying show. Maybe “death-defying” isn’t the right word for a bot; “permanent shutdown-defying” perhaps? ©Disney Disney hasn’t released a whole lot of information on how these guys work. Usually, animatronics need to be tethered to one space or one area with a ton of wires. So we’re curious to see how Spidey will be flying unhindered! ©Disney We DO know that these bots are super advanced and have very specific codes that tell it when to perform a stunt action based on its weight distribution. It will have to convince us it’s Spiderman, after all! To see a sneak peek of the upcoming Stuntronics robot, check out the Disney Research video here. Click here to learn more about the Stuntronics and Avengers Campus as a whole! 5. Augmented Reality Image Customization And last, but certainly not least, we’re talking about Augmented Reality Image Customization. Phew, that’s a mouthful! ©Disney Most recently, Disney used augmented reality to craft a “See yah soon!” message from Mickey that showed up in the Play Disney Parks app for those who had recently returned home from Disney. This Augmented Reality Image Customization Disney is planning for is a whole new ballgame though. It hints at an in-park augmented reality application. ©Disney Like the Stuntronics, you can’t see this tech in the parks just yet! It’s too new. But, we’ll tell you how it works for when we CAN experience it. The tech can overlay your pose in a photo with a costume of your choice so that it looks like you’re wearing it! Think of it as cosplay but with augmented reality. ©Disney We’re not sure how this will be used in the parks as it has only been released as a Disney patent, but we can’t wait to see what’s in store with it. We’re thinking that augmented reality costumes would be an awesome addition to PhotoPass Magic Shots. Plus, it’s like an instant Disneybound — no special outfit coordination required! To see the Augmented Reality Image Customization in action check out this video! Disney continues to dream up new and crazy cool technologies, so we can’t wait to see what they’re going to do next! Jambo, friends! Every day, we see more and more great stories of cast members and Disney fans creating magical moments at home, and we can’t help but be delighted and inspired by the true creativity in action! One such example is Katelyn, a cast member at Kilimanjaro Safaris in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Inspired to recreate the attraction at home, she led a one-of-a-kind video safari through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, complete with some of her favorite “animals” and her very own safari vehicle. She even shared some great facts about wildlife along the way. Kilimanjaro Safaris is definitely a favorite attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With its amazing animals and interesting animal facts, it is no surprise that our cast embers love sharing this unique experience with guests. Earlier, we were moved to tears when we saw Magic Kingdom was still raising and lowering the American flag each day to inspire our country. Disneyland Fire Department And at Disneyland today, a light still shines brightly in the window above the Main Street, U.S.A.’s fire station in remembrance of Walt Disney himself. If you’re unfamiliar with the story, Walt Disney used to keep an apartment above Disneyland’s firehouse which is located right near its main entrance. He enjoyed watching guests enter his park and he lit an old Victorian-era lamp in the window to let the people know when he was around. When Walt passed away, the light was kept on as a permanent reminder that his presence was still there, and it’s become a symbol of Walt Disney ever since. Walt’s light in the Fire Station window What we’re all experiencing together is something that we haven’t faced before and a lot of us are feeling a little lost in the dark. Since we can’t see Walt Disney’s guiding light up above the fire station right now, here are some words that were spoken by late Walt Disney back in his time. Walt and Lillian Disney It’s true Walt Disney faced a lot of challenges and failures before he ever knew what success was. In fact, Walt Disney lost all his money and had to file for bankruptcy before he ever became rich. Since he was very open about his personal experiences with loss, even to this day we can feel the profound impact and somewhat prophetic meaning behind some of his most famous quotes. “Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how you learn how to walk.” Partners Statue at Disneyland But Walt Disney was not a quitter. He believed perseverance and working hard would always pay off. In many ways, the only thing that equaled Walt Disney’s creativity and passion “to do the impossible” was his sheer determination. “The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.” Walt and Lillian Disney And while Walt Disney was also known to be a perfectionist, he also knew nothing good ever came out of dwelling on anxious feelings. Some things are just always going to be outside of our control. “Why worry? If you’ve done the very best you can, worrying won’t make it any better.” Walt Statue in World Celebration When speaking about the many setbacks he experienced in his lifetime, Walt Disney was brutally honest. He spoke so frankly about his experiences, it was almost shocking to hear from such a prestigious leader. But Walt Disney wasn’t afraid to share his thoughts and how hard times had helped him pave the way to his good times ahead. “You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland Now that so many of us are stuck at home trying to come up with ways to keep ourselves and our families entertained, try tapping into some of Walt Disney’s patented curiosity. “When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do. And one thing it takes to accomplish something is courage.” Mad Tea Party As for the matter of parenting, Walt Disney was also quite outspoken. He and his wife Lillian raised two daughters and he always had an affinity for children. Maybe it was because Walt Disney’s possessed a child-like sense of wonder which he never lost with age, but he didn’t believe in talking down to children. Instead, he always seemed to meet them halfway. “I don’t believe in playing down to children, either in life or in motion pictures. I didn’t treat my own youngsters like fragile flowers, and I think no parent should.” it’s a small world in Disneyland And since many of us are trying to juggle working from home while having our children around us, here are more words of wisdom on the subject of raising kids. “It’s a mistake not to give people a chance to learn to depend on themselves while they are young.” Dumbo the Flying Elephant at Disneyland “I have long felt that the way to keep children out of trouble is to keep them interested in things.” Walt Disney and Lillian on their travels If we had to guess what Walt Disney would say right now if he was still alive, we think it might be something like this: “Life is composed of lights and shadows, and we would be untruthful, insincere, and saccharine if we tried to pretend there were no shadows.” Retro Popcorn Box And ultimately, Walt Disney would most likely tell us we all needed to come together — and that if we could remain united and dedicated to one another through all of this, we could really affect some positive changes in each others lives. “There is great comfort and inspiration in the feeling of close human relationships and its bearing on our mutual fortunes – a powerful force, to overcome the “tough breaks” which are certain to come to most of us from time to time.” Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland So when you rest your head on your pillow tonight and maybe have a little difficulty falling asleep at first, think of Walt Disney’s light still shining brightly over in Disneyland. He’s still with us in so many ways. What are some of your favorite Walt Disney quotes? Share them with us in the comments below. OK, we know things are crazy right now. But fear not. Future vacations ARE on the horizon, I promise. And when you DO go back to Disney World, this info is going to come in VERY handy, trust me. Being on vacation means an escape from the mundanity of life and the tasks that take up waaay too many hours of our time normally. One of those chores we’re more than happy to escape from is laundry! Epcot But sometimes you find yourself in a bit of a dilemma! How did you blow through a week’s worth of socks in just three days? Why did you only pack two pairs of shorts? Oh no…your kid (or your husband…or you…let’s be honest) forgot to pack underwear!? What if you’re headed somewhere other than home after your trip to Disney World or Disneyland and your suitcase could only hold so much? The solution becomes pretty clear — you need to do some laundry for your vacation-vibes to survive! Now, in the past, doing laundry at Disney World has been do-able (each resort offers easily accessible laundry facilities), but you were basically stuck within a 20 foot radius of the laundry room during the process. You don’t want some stranger touching your clothes (or potentially stealing your v. expensive Disney World sweatshirt), so you stick around. Disney Clothes Dryer But if you can remember doing Disney laundry in the old days…trust me when I say things are much better — and more technologically awesome — than before. Now, your laundry will tell YOU when it’s finished via a totally free web app called LaundryView. You don’t need to download or create a log-in to use LaundryView, and it’s automatically synchronized to the guest laundry facilities at each Disney World and Disneyland Resort! All you have to do is open the website and type in your resort name. ©LaundryView And voila! The web app shows you in real time how many washers and dryers are available where you are! If you wish, you can set up a mobile alert for when a machine is available, and LaundryView will even let you know when your load is done! That way you can relax and watch some tv back at your room, go swimming with the fam, head in for a quick fastpass ride, or maybe grab a snack before it’s time to move your clothes over! ©LaundryView LaundryView automatically refreshes itself every 30 seconds, so if there isn’t a washer or dryer available right away, keep checking back! ©LaundryView Hey, nobody ever wants to do laundry on vacation, but at least Disney’s made it A LOT easier for us with this handy app. So check it out next time you check-in to a Disney hotel and suddenly find yourself inexplicably shy a few pairs of clean socks or short a few pairs of undies. It sure beats washing them out in the sink! What do you think of the LaundryView app? Will you be giving it a try? Let us know in the comments below! Related posts: First Look! A little over a week ago residents of Orange county followed shortly by Osceola county went under orders to stay at home. Walt Disney World Resort resides between these two jurisdictions. Animal Kingdom Entrance But today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a 30-day stay at home order for all of Flordia. This order begins on April 2nd at midnight. Previously, Florida’s Governor had ordered the state’s bars to close and limited the occupancy and sale of alcohol at most restaurants. These guidelines were amended a week later ordering all of Florida’s restaurants to offer only take-out of delivery of their food. D-Luxe Burger in Disney Springs According to Orlando Sentinel, until now Florida was the only state with over 5,000 confirmed cases to not limit the movement of its residents. Last week, over 30 states enacted stay at home orders including California, Illinois, and New York. While a good number of Florida residents were already under stay at home orders issued by their local county officials, non-essential travel is now banned for the state in its entirety. Disney Springs Disney World is currently closed until further notice and this Florida stay at home order is currently in place until May 2nd. There are few things we are looking forward to this year as much as the 2020 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival! Epcot is often seen as the “adult park” in comparison to the other Disney parks, so some families struggle with the idea of bringing children along. 2019 Food and Wine Festival Not only is Epcot an excellent park for the whole family, but the Food and Wine Festival itself is a great place to take kids! If you’re having doubts, or if your kids scoff at the idea of a “Food and Wine Festival,” we know of some pretty enticing kid-friendly activities so they can enjoy the festival WITH you this year! Look for the “kid-approved” menu items Many booths will feature “kid-approved” food and beverages! These menu items are typically more mild in flavor and are more likely to appeal to a wider variety of palettes. Essentially, these menu items were designed with kids in mind! You’ll know if an item is kid-approved by the strawberry icon next to the item’s name. 2019 Food and Wine Festival Menu Booth Tracking down kid-approved items can double as a scavenger hunt AND an opportunity to let THEM decide what they want to eat! Of course, if your kids are more adventurous eaters, then there are even more options for them to choose from, but many booths will only have one or two things with those strawberry icons. 2019 Active Eats Menu If you’re on a food and wine crawl of your own, maybe you can offer an incentive to keep your kid happy while momma gets her Beef Bourguignon and yet ANOTHER wine flight. Kids can be put ‘in charge’ of the passport book — which is very serious business. Epcot Food and Wine Festival They are FULL of stickers and kids will love the challenge of filling in the book as you travel around World Showcase. Passport Stickers Your kids can also practice their social skills and interact with the World Showcase Cast Members (if they aren’t busy, of course!). 2019 Food and Wine Passport Maybe have your kids ask the Cast Members to draw Mickey or write something in the language of their home countries! Join in kid-friendly activities The Food and Wine Festival doesn’t have to be ALL about eating and drinking! There are lots of fun classes and activities the whole family can enjoy including Remy’s “Hide and Squeak” Scavenger Hunt. Remy, our favorite master chef from Ratatouille, is hiding throughout the festival in the different pavilions and food booths. It gives kids a fun challenge to look for him, and you get a prize when you find him at each location! It’s an added expense, but it may be #worthit to keep your child smiling. Remy’s Hide & Squeak Map Purchasing Location sign Kids can also participate in DuckTales World Showcase Adventure! This game, based out of the Play Disney Parks Mobile App, replaced the Agent P game that brought players around World Showcase in search of hidden games and challenges. The Play Disney Parks Mobile App in general is full of engaging activities for younger Disney fans to keep them engaged while exploring the parks (at no additional cost to you!). ©Disney The Flower and Garden Festival may have Frushi, but the Food and Wine Festival has Candy Sushi! The Candy Sushi class is typically offered daily throughout the Festival season in The Land Pavilion. This is an awesome class since the kids get to construct their own sushi rolls made entirely of candy and other sweet treats. We’ll keep you posted when we know more about booking, because these classes can fill up QUICKLY. Candy Sushi The Food and Wine Festival also hosts the Disney du Jour Dance Party in Future World! This lets kids burn off some energy (which they should have plenty of after eating all of those Candy Sushi rolls…). A DJ plays some favorite hits while Remy, Emile, and other Disney characters join in the dancing fun! Disney du Jour Dance Party Stage If you’re looking for ways for kids to dance around in World Showcase, trot on over to the Eat to the Beat Concert Series! Kids may enjoy jumping around to the music and adults may recognize many of the headliner acts! Sugar Ray performs during the Eat to the Beat concert series And if your kids STILL have copious amounts of energy after all of that dancing, there are a few playground areas to spend some time in. These are typically beside food booths or by main festival areas and are designated spaces for kids to run around. Flower and Garden Playground Use what already exists in World Showcase to get kids excited Like we mentioned before, Epcot is ALREADY a great park for kids! The World Showcase has kid-friendly rides, attractions, shows, characters — you could easily spend an entire day in the “back half” of Epcot. For starters, there are currently two rides in World Showcase: Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros in the Mexico Pavilion and Frozen Ever After in the Norway Pavilion. Frozen Ever After Ride And this summer, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is slated to open in the France Pavilion. Rides can be a good way to add “breaks” into your day and give your kids something to look forward to in between trips to the food booths. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure ©Disney Over the years, the Food and Wine Festival has grown beyond World Showcase. Now, you can find food booths in Future World. This means that all the other rides in the “front half” of Epcot can be used as incentive for kids in between trips to the food booths. Soarin’, anyone? Test Track Since the festival is all about trying food from around the world, you can help your kids make the correlation of the international cuisine with some of their favorite international characters! So after you ride Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, get in line for the France food booth and talk to your kids about how Remy might cook up some of this food at his restaurant in France! 2019 France Booth You can also employ this strategy with character meet-and-greets. You can meet lots of characters in World Showcase in their home countries, like Belle in France or Mulan in China. As with the rides, talk to your kids about the food from those countries and how the character they just met would probably eat a dish similar to the food they’re trying! China Pavilion World Showcase is full of delicious food all year round, so look beyond the booths for snacks your kids may enjoy. For example, if they try something new at the France booth, they can get an ice cream cone at L’Artsian des Glaces. Or, if they try some food at the Japan booth, they can buy one fun candy item at Mitsukoshi in the Japan Pavilion. And finally, no trip around World Showcase is complete without taking in a spectacular fireworks show at the end of the night! You can scope out a good spot to watch the show and take turns grabbing items at the different food booths. This could even be a good alternative plan for dinner if you don’t want to spend a ton of time at a table service restaurant. Epcot Forever The Food and Wine Festival is a highly anticipated annual event at Epcot. Although there is plenty for adults to enjoy, there are just as many activities and food items for kids to LOVE. We hope this gives you a few ideas on how to get your kids excited for a fun-filled day at Epcot! Check out our best of the Food and Wine fest from last year here! While The Walt Disney Company has had to make several costly moves lately including closing down its parks until further notice and delaying movie premieres, it seems they’re also thinking ahead. Cinderella Castle First reported by Orlando Business Journal, the company has just closed a deal to acquire more land near Walt Disney World Resort. On March 31st, an entity with ties to The Walt Disney Company bought 26.3 acres for $1.05 million, or roughly $39,923 an acre. The land purchased from Lake Reedy Development Group LLC by Celebration Co. and is located to the west of Magic Kingdom, near the southeastern shore of Reedy Lake. Disney Purchases 26.3 acres Near Magic Kingdom Source: Orlando Business Journal Just last December we reported to you Compass Rose Corp., a subsidiary of Disney, purchased 235 acres of land from Lake Reedy LLC. This land is situated northwest of the Oak Trail Golf Course. Cinderella Castle Refurb While it’s unclear if Disney is really considering expansion projects right now, especially since all construction has been delayed, they could be securing additional land to have as a physical asset moving forward. That way, Disney could use the land for conservation to “buffer” the property or grow Walt Disney World Resort further on down the road. Magic Kingdom Disney already has numerous projects in the works such as the Epcot transformation including Space 220 Restaurant, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind along with TRON: Lightcycle Run and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel. So Disney World already has a bit on its plate in terms of projects and construction. Galactic Starcruiser Construction We’ll continue to follow this story and update you with anything we hear! Back when Disney World’s temporary closure first began, we noticed the American flag still appeared to be flying high on Main Street, U.S.A. across from the entrance to Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom Today Photo c/o News 6 WKMG Even though the Disney parks were absent of people, we could feel the strong presence of the star-spangled banner still being flown, and we hope you did too. And today, the President of Walt Disney World Resort, Josh D’Amaro confirmed on his Instagram @joshdamaro that Disney World Security Cast Members are still raising and lowering the American flag every day to help guide people at home through these times. Photo from Instagram c/o @joshdamaro D’Amaro also shared these words of encouragement, “It’s a symbol that we’re still here and will not falter. I hope this inspires you as well. We will be back. Thanks to all our incredible Cast Members who continue to maintain the magic until that day. Until then, please take care of yourselves and your families. We will see you soon.” Photo from Instagram c/o @joshdamaro While we’ll have to wait for all the sweet aromas of Mickey Ice Cream Bars and Krispy Treats to fill the air again, and to see fireworks fill the night sky above the Magic Kingdom, just know that our flag is still there, right this moment at Disney World.
