Earlier we reported some union Cast Members from Disney World’s hotels and theme parks were being called back to resume working as early as June 14th, and know we can provide you with a few more updates! Cake Pop at Magic Kingdom According to a recent post on Unite Here Local 737 union’s Facebook page, we now know a few more food and beverage locations that have started calling back their full-time Cast Members as Disney World gets ready for its big reopening! Here’s are a few more specific areas where Cast Members are being called back to their positions starting June 21st. The post went on to state additional workers may also be called to some of the locations that have previously been announced and that they’ll be providing more information soon. Welcome back to Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza in Disney Springs! Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza in Disney Springs This isn’t our first stop back here since Blaze reopened on May 20th. We paid a visit to this popular quick service pizza joint to check out their new safety measures upon reopening. Today, we’re heading back to pick up a pie (and perhaps a little something sweet) for a full review! So, get ready to fire it up with us at Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza once again! Atmosphere The new safety measures — which you can read about in full here — remain in place, of course, since reopening day. Among them are markers on the floor to promote physical distancing, and face masks are required for cast members (as they are for guests, as well, all throughout Disney Springs). Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza And the good folks at Blaze would like to remind you of a very important message: “Trust me, underneath that mask I’m smiling.” Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza As always, guests seat themselves. However, select tables are marked off with clever signs to further encourage distancing between guests. Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza seating Blaze Pizza If you’ve visited Blaze before, you may remember the refillable drink station (which holds some fairly unique options for guests, including selections by Blue Sky). Drink station Drink station Though the refill station is marked off from guests at the moment, you can show your receipt to the cast member at the beverage station and they can help set you up with your refill from there. Cast Member at Drink Station You can also make requests for utensils and condiments (which were previously up for grabs at carts). Again, you can check out even more of the new measures implemented at Blaze by clicking here. But now, it’s time for… Eats It’s all in the name at Blaze Fast-Fire’d PIZZA! Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza Except…not entirely. We’ve been interested in trying the recently added Knots here, too. Dessert and Dough Knots signs You can go sweet or savory with the Dessert Knots (with Cinnamon & Sugar) or Dough Knots (Mozzarella & Garlic Pesto). Dough Knots Since we were going seriously savory with our pizza, we ordered up the Dessert Knots (four for $4.25) along with our Meat Eater Pizza ($9.95)! Meat Eater Pizza The Meat Eater — one of the spot’s Signature Pizzas — comes complete with pepperoni, meatballs (!!), red onion, mozzarella cheese, and a classic Red Sauce. We went with the Original Dough, but remember to “Know Your Dough” options when it comes to picking your pizza at Blaze! (And just a reminder that High-Rise and Gluten-Free dough are each $2.00 more.) Know Your Dough The Meat Eater is one of the two most popular pizza options here. (We were told the Build Your Own Pizza, as we expected, also ranks up at the top.) And it completely lives up to its name with TONS of meat from the plentiful pepperoni and meatballs. Meat Eater Pizza It’s seriously hearty. And, just like literally every other pizza we’ve had here, it’s also super tasty! Plenty of fresh toppings cover every inch of the pizza while the crust is nicely finished with a terrific char. Meat Eater Pizza We ordered the Meat Eater Pizza exactly as it comes, but next time we’d opt to add more veggies to balance it out a bit more. (Remember, customizing is welcome and even encouraged at Blaze!) Meat Eater Pizza To wash it down, we went with the fresh and fruity Blackberry Basil Agua Fresca. It’s one of the unique beverage flavors here, which also include Lemonades such as Blood Orange. Blackberry Basil Agua Fresca Agua Fresca and Lemonades Oh, and aside from the drink, here’s a look at the new strawless lids in use here, which serve to reduce single-use plastic straws. Blackberry Basil Agua Fresca And NOW it’s time to finish it all off with those Cinnamon and Sugar Dessert Knots! Dessert Knots The Dessert Knots are totally yummy, with plenty of cinnamon baked into the thick dough rolls. Sure, we could use a little more icing (which is always the case with us here at the DFB for any cinnamon roll-style treat ) , but the “fast-fire’d” baking process gives these knots a unique twist (if you’ll pardon the pun). Dessert Knots But we do have one suggestion… Dessert Knots If you plan to order these, do so after you finish eating your pizza to enjoy on their own. We waited to have them as dessert, and while they were still very good, we think they should be eaten right away while at their fresh-from-the-oven best! And that’s the latest from Blaze! Nosh or Not Fire up for a visit to Blaze if: You LOVE oodles of options for customizing your pizza. You’re looking for a lot of pizza bang for your buck! You simply love a tasty pizza pie. (And really… who doesn’t??) Blaze on by if: You already have a Blaze Fast-Fired Pizza in your hometown and would prefer to dine somewhere unique to Disney Springs. You’d like to linger a bit after your meal. This popular spot often has lots of guests hoping to snag a seat. Overall Our latest visit to Blaze only serves to reminds us exactly why this place is so popular with locals and Disney Springs cast members as well as guests. Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza serves up consistently fresh, tasty, and totally customizable pizza — along with some fun options for snacks or dessert — at great prices. While Planet Hollywood was one of the first restaurants in Disney Springs to announce they’d be reopening on May 2oth, we were surprised to find the restaurant unexpectedly closed down last week! Planet Hollywood But while walking off our Birthday Cake Shake from the newly reopened Vivoli il Gelato in Disney Springs today, we found out Planet Hollywood is open once AGAIN! Planet Hollywood reopened at 4PM today without any visible reason why the restaurant had mysteriously closed its doors. Planet Hollywood Meal The Disney Springs’ website was a little glitchy and still showing the restaurant as being closed, but we can assure ya it’s now open. Give Kids The World Village is a non-profit resort that works closely with The Make-A-Wish Foundation to provides cost-free Disney World vacations for children who are battling critical illness along with their families. It’s Mickey! But due to the global health crisis and the vulnerability of its guests, the resort has remained closed, and sadly they don’t know when they’ll be able to resume granting kids’ wishes. Pamela Landwirth, President and CEO of Give Kids The World, posted this message on social media today regarding the current status of the non-profit. Since the children they assist have medical issues, it seems inadvisable for them to grant wishes involving trips to Disney World’s theme parks upon their reopening. Give Kids The World Statement Because The Village has had to shutter itself and will stay closed indefinitely, the group has had to make the difficult decision to lay off the majority of their staff which will go into effect June 27th. A small staff will be retained to ensure the upkeep of The Village as well as prepare for Give Kids The World’s eventual reopening. We wish this wonderful organization that has provided so many kids with happy memories over the years nothing but the best and a speedy return to their very important work! Just moments ago, we told you Vivoli il Gelato had finally reopened in Disney Springs! Birthday Cake Shake And now we’re back to share all the delicious deets regarding a certain special menu item — the Birthday Cake Shake! While originally Vivoli il Gelato had hoped to open its doors on May 22nd, we stopped by that day to see the shop was still closed. An employee told us they were aiming to reopen by June 1oth which is Vivoli il Gelato’s 5-year anniversary! We were SUPER excited to see them up and running today — and to celebrate, we’re diving into their Birthday Cake Shake! Birthday Cake Shake Oh hello, gorgeous! Where have you been hiding all of our lives?! This “birthday present in a cup” features cake batter gelato blended with milk and it’s topped with a cupcake, whipped cream, and rainbow confetti sprinkles! Birthday Cake Shake Words don’t do the insanity of the Birthday Cake Shake justice, but we’ll try our best to explain what’s going on with this thing! First of all, the gelato tastes just like how you would expect it to taste! Hey, we’re just as guilty of licking the bowl while baking a cake as you guys are! The cutest little cart you ever did see — the Vivoli il Gelato Cart — is serving up cold, creamy scoops of gelato once more in the Disney Springs Marketplace! Vivoli il Gelato Cart As a reminder, you’ll find the storefront for Vivoli il Gelato over in The Landing area of Disney Springs. And, as of today, it’s now reopen, too! This cheerful bicycle cart, though, typically makes its home in the Marketplace right near the World of Disney store and The Daily Poutine. (You’ll notice a new line marker placed in front of it to promote safe distancing.) Vivoli il Gelato Cart While it offers a more limited menu than the concoctions — including over-the-top Shakes, Sundaes, and Floats — which you’ll find in the storefront, the flavor selection is still impressive for such a small spot. Vivoli il Gelato Cart Flavor Menu Flavors, which can rotate, currently include — but aren’t limited to — Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream, Lemon, and Cotton Candy! While Vivoli il Gelato was originally supposed to reopen on May 22nd, the spot ran into some issues and it has remained closed this whole time! Vivoli il Gelato That is — UNTIL TODAY! Vivoli il Gelato is now open! Let’s take a peek inside! Just like the rest of the shops and dining spots we’ve been visiting, Vivoli il Gelato has implemented several new safety guidelines. We noticed social distancing markers have been placed on the ground… Social Distancing Markers …while plexiglass shields have been installed at the counters including around the cash register. A sign states Vivoli il Gelato is encouraging guests to use contactless payment methods. While Disney World has launched a new Annual Passholder webpage with its updated policies, there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. Walt Disney World Annual Passholder And thanks to one of our readers, we’re now aware of a potentially problematic situation regarding Annual Passes that were originally set to expire during Disney World’s temporary closure period. A reader reached out to us today to let us know about a tricky problem she ran into and was unable to get resolved regarding her Annual Passholder status. AP’s are allowed to sign up early for runDisney events so, she called guest relations to inquire about the AP registry for the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend even though her annual pass had technically expired during the temporary closure. Spaceship Earth Keep in mind, Disney World has stated they would automatically be extending the AP passes of members who had already paid in full or were keeping up with their monthly payments. But at this time, Disney World has yet to extend the expiration dates which means if your Annual Pass was originally set to expire between March 18th and July 11th, the system Disney uses won’t be able to recognize your membership is still valid until it’s reset. As far as the computer will see, you don’t HAVE a valid Annual Pass (even though you technically DO!). MMRR Annual Passholder MagicBand Our reader told us the Cast Member she spoke with said an internal team will be working on resetting the expiration dates around the time the parks reopen. Annual Passes cannot be reset by the guest services or management team at this time. Cinderella Castle This created a major roadblock for our reader who needed a valid Annual Pass for her early runDisney sign-up. But this issue, if left unresolved, could also cause major headaches for APs who are trying to attend Disney World’s Annual Passholder preview days, if their pass expired during the lengthy closure. The system must recognize your Annual Pass is still valid in order to get a reservation, so until Disney World gives its out new expiration dates, some APs might be out of luck. Magic Kingdom Sign This also means APs whose Annual Passes expired during the temporary closure will most likely be blocked from early registry to the Princess Half Marathon Weekend — which, as we saw with Walt Disney World’s 2021 Marathon Weekend, can sell out VERY quickly. We’ll keep an eye on this issue and let you know if there’s any way APs whose passes expired during the closure can resolve this issue. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we learn any new details. Summer Specials But that was before we realized the Marketplace Starbucks in Disney Springs had not one, but TWO new summer drink specials! Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten the chance to partake in Starbucks’ other new drinks including the Welcome Back and Love is Love! They’re still available! Starbucks Menu Check out Starbucks’ new color-changing confetti cups here! But today we’re setting out to explore the new Campfire Cold Brew and Picnic Punch that have just appeared! We gotta say — both of these drinks look and SMELL absolutely amazing! We can’t wait to see how they taste! Campfire Cold Brew and Picnic Punch First up, the new Campfire Cold Brew featuring Starbucks’ signature nitro cold brew blended with milk chocolate topped with a marshmallow cold foam and graham cracker crumbs! Before tax, this one set us back $7.35. Campfire Cold Brew We didn’t pick up much of the marshmallow or milk chocolate because the richness of the cold brew was so powerful! If you like a strong cold coffee drink with just a hint of sweetness, we think you should definitely give the Campfire Cold Brew a try! If you want it a little sweeter, ask for more foam on top or an extra pump of chocolate syrup to help those flavors stand out a little more! Campfire Cold Brew Next, we sampled the new Picnic Punch! This one’s a pineapple matcha drink that comes topped with a strawberry sweet cream cold foam and costs $7.40 before tax! Picnic Punch We seemed to think the flavors of this drink were a little more to our liking! The creamy strawberry foam was super yummy and it’s the exact same foam they’re using for the Love is Love drink which to us kinda taste like delicious melty strawberry ice cream! Picnic Punch Although we don’t normally reach for iced green tea drinks, the strawberry cream seemed to mask some of the matcha’s bitterness. Read our FULL Love Is Love review here! Disney World is slowly gearing up again. Four Seasons Resort Orlando With the Disney World theme parks set to begin opening on July 11th and many of the Disney World hotels opening on June 22nd, it looks like some of the area’s partner hotels are moving towards opening too. Four Seasons Orlando in Disney World is now set to open soon. Four Seasons Resort Orlando is currently accepting reservations for July 1st. In a statement about the opening, the Four Seasons team said, “From the bottom of our hearts, again we thank you…we cannot wait to welcome you to Four Seasons Orlando!” Four Seasons Statement The resort is using a new Lead With Care program developed in conjunction with Johns Hopkins Medicine International. According to Four Seasons CEO John Davison, “Lead With Care sets out clear procedures that educate and empower employees to take care of guests and each other.” The Disney Help Desk The program focuses on enhanced cleanliness, heightened guest safety and comfort, and empowered employees to create a safe environment in the wake of the global health crisis. Shanghai Disneyland reopened to guests on May 11th. While we’ve been following the recent reopening (and subsequent updates), the Resort has also been preparing for the future. Shanghai Disneyland And that includes Shanghai Disneyland’s Zootopia-themed expansion! Announced in January 2019, the expansion will become the park’s eighth themed land and will also be the first land themed to Zootopia in a Disney park. And construction has reached an important milestone. In a recent press release, Shanghai Disney Resort has shared a few images of the installation of the first steel column for the new land! ©Shanghai Disneyland The installation marks the beginning of the Zootopia-themed expansion’s vertical construction. ©Shanghai Disneyland The release also shared a longstanding Disney tradition. ©Shanghai Disneyland Noting that before it was installed, the “first steel column was signed by leaders and representatives from the Resort, the Administrative Commission of Shanghai International Resort, Shanghai Shendi Group, and Walt Disney Imagineering, which is responsible for the design and development of the new themed land.” ©Shanghai Disneyland Additional milestones which have already been met include the commencement of “piling work” to strengthen the foundations of the buildings that will ultimately line the land’s streets. Happily Ever After With so many wonderful ways to enjoy Walt Disney World, it’s impossible to do it all. But whether you’ve been to the World dozens of times or you’re planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip, we don’t want you to finish your trip with any regrets. Here are five Walt Disney World experiences you’ll regret not trying. Asking a Cast Member for Their Recommendation If you’re here, then that means that you know to turn to the experts when looking for suggestions about your Disney trip. But there are some experts you might be overlooking, and their input can make a big difference to your trip. We’re talking about Cast Members! Walt Disney World Cast Member Who is MORE expert than the Cast Members who bring magic to Disney guests day in and day out? Not only are Cast Members a big piece of what makes Disney World go ’round, but they are also an excellent resource for recommendations once you’re on your trip! Le Petit Cafe Cast Members If you’re ever on the fence about something — where to eat, what to do next, etc. — ask a Cast Member! They’ll offer their personal preferences and pieces of advice that may be super surprising and can make for an awesome twist to your Disney day. We’re not just talking about the Cast Members in the lobby of your resort hotel either. Talk to your waitstaff, attractions attendants, and custodial staff for tips! If they have that telltale oval name tag on, chances are they can offer advice on just about any question you may have! Cast Member Want some ideas about what to ask? Take the risk and have the Cast Member choose for you what to order when you’re dining! We do this a lot since the Cast knows the menu at their dining location better than anyone else. We also recommend asking for their take on what you should do on your resort day (since you might get some ideas you would have missed out on) and for their favorite attractions and tips! Grand Floridian Lobby Did you know you can dine with a Disney Imagineer in Disney World? These are the folks who come up with all of the crazy tech, beautiful designs, and awesome experiences that we take part in every day we’re in Disney. The Dine with an Imagineer offering allows you to sit down with one of these super bright minds, pick their brain, and enjoy a delicious meal! Our Dine with an Imagineer Table — Our Imagineer is sitting at the middle right This offering is usually available at Citricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa for up to 11 guests. You can typically book this experience on the first Thursday of every month at 5:30PM for $97.98 (tax and gratuity included). And you can pay an extra $30 if you want to add the optional wine pairing. A four-course meal and a casual chat with an Imagineer? Yes, please! You can also enjoy this experience at The Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios. You can typically book this version of the experience on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 12PM for $89.46. Remember, park admission is required and not included in this option! Hollywood Brown Derby This truly is a bucket list experience and we definitely wish we could take advantage of it right now. Photopass and Memory Maker are great ways to get photos while you’re in the parks, but did you know that you can upgrade to a professional, and personal Photopass session? PhotoPass outside of Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios There are even a few different options for photoshoots so that you can pick one that fits your needs and your budget! Back in February, Disney released the new Capture Your Moment photo sessions in Magic Kingdom for $50. These sessions get you and your fam a 20-minute shoot to help commemorate celebrations and milestones during regular park hours. Neat! You can book Capture Your Moment by calling 407-939-7758. ©Disney Guests can also opt to use Disney Fine Art Photography! This service is a little bit more on the pricy side but there are more options to choose from. Depending on your package, these sessions could incorporate lighting, staging, and other techniques. Pricing ranges from $225 for a Mini Portrait Session at a Resort to $1,999+ for a private, 5-location family portrait session in Magic Kingdom before the park opens. Disney’s Contemporary Resort with Monorail Access to Magic Kingdom and Epcot Food and drink crawls are a great way to experience some menu items and dining locations that you might otherwise miss out on. Our DFB crawls are crafted SPECIFICALLY so that you chow down on the best of the best and check out some awesome locations along the way. Baymax Cupcake Consider trying a transportation-based crawl like the Skyliner Pub Crawl, with tasty libations from Hollywood Studios to Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Or try the Monorail Crawl for eats from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa! Disney Skyliner There are other crawls, too! Asking for the Best Seat on a Roller Coaster Last, but certainly not least, we have a fairly simple idea that a LOT of guests have never thought about before! This is an easy trick that can seriously perfect your ride experience. Space Mountain Okay, here’s the tip: If you’re looking for a smoother ride with great views, request a seat in the front. While Disney World has remained closed, items you could previously only buy inside the parks have been released on shopDisney, the Disney Store’s online platform. Magic Kingdom And while initially, this seemed like a good thing, (not having to put on pants, get off the sofa, and physically drag ourselves to the theme parks), it’s been a major headache — which we’ll get into in a sec! But when the parks reopen, is this going to be our only option for those must-have merch items from now on?? Now that some Disney Stores will be reopening soon, they’ve announced some limited-edition releases and specialty products might not be available in stores anymore. ©Disney They stated the reason for no longer providing these types of items in stores is crowd control. Limited releases tend to be known for a bit of a mad dash as guests scramble for what they want, and since distancing guests is important right now, those big crowds need to be a no-go. So what does this mean in terms of buying exclusive Disney Parks items at the theme parks when they reopen? Surely Disney World will want to keep gatherings to a minimum, so how will they address this issue? Learn more about the health and safety measures the Disney Stores will be implementing here! Will Disney World Resume Selling Its Limited Edition Collections Again When the Parks Reopen? Disney World recently shared that limited releases will NOT be sold in the parks when they reopen. Disney’s Statement on Limited-Release Merchandise Does that mean no more hunting in every gift shop for Rose Gold Ears after they’re released, or snagging a new spirit jersey right as a Cast Member puts them on display? What about lining up early outside a gift shop to snag the newest Dooney and Bourke bag? For now, yes. Why is This a GOOD Thing? This way, guests who are unable to get a reservation to visit the parks can at least have access to the limited edition items such as Pins, Designer Ears, Dooney and Bourkes, and other exclusive wares. See some of the Limited Edition Disney Parks Pins that have been released online here! ©shopDisney And not having to wait in a physical line for your chance to buy your Disney Dooney and Bourke bags really has some added benefits! We don’t know many folks who would complain about snapping up these purses without having to leave their houses! Check out some of the newest Disney Dooneys that have just been released online here! © Disney And while some Vera Bradley bags have previously been sold on shopDisney, the Vera Bradley website is selling Disney styles for the very first time! Vera Bradley x Disney Collection So what’s the problem, right? Not having to go out AND still getting your Disney gear? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal! Only…it isn’t always perfect. While buying some of the parks’ limited edition items online is super-convenient, it can also be quite frustrating if you’re going after Disney’s more-popular items! Why is This a BAD Thing? Here’s the thing — while being able to buy this stuff online ROCKS when it works, many of the most desirable items are selling out SUPER FAST! We’re talkin’ you click refresh on a page a fraction of a second too late and you might miss out on that item you so desperately want! Ever After One of the hottest ticket items recently have been some of Disney’s Designer Ears. We’re talking mega-trendy Mickey and Minnie-themed headwear designed by Disney’s most elite! Some of our favorite ear sets include Ashley Eckstein’s Ahsoka Tano Ears (who she also portrayed in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series!)… Check out Ashley’s designer Star Wars Droid Ears here! ©Her Universe @HerUniverse on Instagram …and who can forget Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde’s Designer Ears! © Disney These seemed to sell out faster than Thanos could snap his fingers! (Seriously — as soon as we shared with you that they were available we were turning around to tell you they were gone!) See how much Joe Rohde’s Designer Ears were selling for on eBay shortly after selling out on shopDisney! How Disney Is Trying to Fix This? There’s some good news (although the results so far have been underwhelming). Disney is aware of this problem of their merch selling out too quickly online and they’re actively addressing the issue. Just before releasing their Star Wars May the Fourth collection, Disney said they would be implementing a virtual waiting room system that was supposed to give everyone a fair shake at getting their goods. ©Disney However, the new system had major technical issues. Many would-be-shoppers were very frustrated to see a cartoon Millennium Falcon endlessly floating on their computer screens telling them to wait for the page to load! We’ve tried (and failed) to jump on the Minnie Main Attraction merch as it’s been released since the parks have been closed…we’ve come up empty each time (so if you missed out, you’re in good company ). ©shopDisney Disney once again tried to use the virtual waiting room when they released their Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction collection for May only to once again encounter more problems. Enchanted Tiki Room fans sobbed as the Minnie Ears, Loungefly Backpacks, and Minnie Plush all slipped through their fingers! Surely there has to be a better way! ©Disney We were slightly reassured when World of Disney reopened on May 27th and we saw a few Minnie Mouse: The Main Attraction items were for sale. However, in mere moments, all of the Mad Tea Party Loungeflys and Pirates of the Caribbean Minnie Plushes (which had previously been released months before) were gobbled up and haven’t been replenished since. What Was Left of the Main Attraction Collection So, we won’t be seeing specialty or limited edition merchandise in the parks or brick and mortar stores for a while. But in the meantime, it seems Disney will continue to release their limited edition stuff online for now. There are FAR too many glitches on the shopDisney site right now to currently handle this sort of change, so time will tell if they can get a reliable and efficient system to shoulder this influx of traffic. If they can just work out some of the kinks of their virtual waiting room — we wouldn’t be so bothered by the idea of not having the opportunity to buy this stuff at the parks.
