A BRAND NEW hotel has just joined the ranks of the Bonnet Creek-area hotels, which are located INSIDE the gates of Walt Disney World. Walt Disney World Resort entrance The JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort & Spa opened July 1st and is located just down the road from other popular Bonnet Creek resorts the Hilton Orlando-Bonnet Creek Resort, the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek, and the Waldorf Astoria Orlando. According to a press release, the 516-room resort debuts a new family-friendly room type, Family Suites. These rooms feature fireworks views (when fireworks aren’t temporarily suspended), lofted beds, spa-like bathrooms, and larger living areas for families to spread out. Guests will also get shuttle transportation to Disney theme parks. Read about when more Disney World transportation options are reopening here! The resort also features a Kids Conservatory where kids can do arts and crafts and an Activity Garden, with a rock-climbing wall, mini golf course, and a lawn for free play. For grown-ups, we’re betting the 10,000-square-foot Spa by JW should be just the ticket after those long park days. The resort says they’re prioritizing health and safety in the midst of the current health crisis by implementing guidelines established by the Marriott Global Cleanliness Council. Staff will wear masks at all times and guest protocols will support social distancing. @JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek Of course we’re wondering what NEW food options this resort will bring to the area. Dining spots include steakhouse Sear + Sea, Japanese-inspired illume Rooftop, serving sushi, seafood, and Asian tapas (with fireworks views when they’re running), and UnReserved, a European-inspired food hall. Some of the FIRST guests to experience this resort will be those who were originally scheduled to stay at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. Guests with reservations at the Swan and Dolphin between July 1st and July 29th were just alerted that their reservations would be canceled and they could rebook at the JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek. Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort We reached out to the resort to find out whether guests staying here will receive the same benefits guests get at Walt Disney World Good Neighbor hotels like the Swan and Dolphin and the Hilton Orlando-Bonnet Creek Resort, which are similar to the perks that come with a stay at an official Walt Disney World hotel. Find out what counts as a “Walt Disney World Resort” here. With Disney’s new Park Pass Reservation System in place, this was a BIG DEAL because guests staying onsite were able to book their theme park reservations before everyone else. The resort was unable to confirm at this time their classification as it relates to Disney World, but we’ll keep you posted! We answer all your burning questions about Disney’s Park Pass Reservation System here! Will you be staying at the reopened JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek? Let us in the comments! Disney World is the place to let go if you wanna become a kid again (yes, sometimes we get more excited about seeing Mickey than our kids do). Does Everyone Want To Ride Splash Mountain?? But, there are still a few rules that you have to follow in the parks! That means no running, no jumping out of ride vehicles, no stealing your siblings’ Dole Whips, and the like. (K, maybe we made up that last one, WE’RE ONLY HUMAN!) While we all know the basic rules of theme park etiquette, there are still a LOT of things most people don’t realize you cannot do in Disney World anymore! It’s Mickey! Don’t worry, though — we’re going to give you the run-down on some of the biggest things that you’ll have to skip doing in the parks! Swim in the Disney Lakes Years ago, guests were able to swim and spend days at the beach at Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon (beach day!!). Although many people enjoyed kicking back, relaxing, and splashing at the resorts, these areas were sectioned off and no-swimming signs were put up. Why you ask?? Sunrise at Bay Lake Well…because it’s downright dangerous to get too close to ANY natural waterway in central Florida. Disney does their best to control alligator populations but, at the end of the day, they’re in the middle of Florida swampland and mother nature wants to do what she wants to do. As long as the alligators are not in a guest-populated area, Disney can’t ensure total containment of them, hence prohibiting guests to swim in open waters. Disney Springs There are also certain bacteria that could be dangerous or lethal if ingested (YIKES). One boy unfortunately contracted a fatal case of amoebic meningoencephalitis supposedly from the lake (Bay Lake) where Disney’s River Country used to be. While taking a dip in the lake and lagoon might seem like fun at the moment, Disney is just trying to do whatever it can to protect guests and employees. Disney’s River Country ©Disney Even though you can’t take a dip in Bay Lake or Seven Seas Lagoon, there are still SO many awesome pools at the resorts, water rides in the parks, and Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach to visit if you want to cool off in the Florida heat! Castaway Creek Who wouldn’t want to float in a lazy river, eating a Dole Whip?? OK, OK, you can’t do that either. Gotta eat your Dole Whip BEFORE hopping in!) Which Disney water park should you visit? Click here! Smoke in the Disney Parks The smoking policies in Disney World have seen some pretty major changes over the years. At one point, Disney switched to having designated smoking sections throughout the parks so people who smoked or vaped had a spot that wouldn’t affect other guests. However, they weren’t allowed to smoke anywhere else in the park. No Smoking signs now up in former Asia smoking area But, last year, the Disney Parks changed their policy to a totally no-smoking environment while guests are in Disney World or Disneyland. However, there are still some places that guests can smoke during their visits! No Smoking Sign The Disney Resorts and Disney Springs have smoking locations set aside for guests to use. Plus, you can also smoke in specific areas near the entrances to the parks. Click here to learn more about the smoking ban in Disney Parks Wear Masks…Well, Kind Of Disney has actually had a mask policy for quite a while now. If you’re 14 or older, wearing any sort of face mask is actually prohibited. Younger children are able to wear them in Disney World, BUT the mask must provide unobstructed vision, the eyes should be fully seen, and the mask shouldn’t cover the whole face. (Though it seems like those Kylo Ren or Stormtrooper masks that don’t really fit the set guidelines are definitely tolerated, if not outright allowed!) A little Stormtrooper meets his character counterpart! Older aged kids, teenagers, and adults are prohibited from wearing masks or full costumes on regular days in the park, BUT they CAN wear costumes in Disney World when they are attending special ticketed events, like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. There are still restrictions to keep in mind about what costume pieces are allowed (Edna Mode is just really opposed to capes, you know). Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party However, Disney’s face mask policy has changed just a little bit in light of the current situation. Nope, you can’t sport that adult Darth Vader mask in the parks and call it “wearing a mask,” but they ARE allowing (and, in fact, REQUIRING) certain masks in the parks. In the name of health and safety, lower-face coverings are now required for guests and employees in the parks, and masks must cover guests’ mouth and nose completely. Face Coverings So it may not be that full-face Halloween mask you were hoping for, but if you plan to visit Disney World soon, you’ll need to mask up for you and everyone in your family over the age of two! Click here for some of our favorite comfy face masks! See the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Now, believe it or not — this is a question we get a LOT around the holidays. No, you cannot see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights anymore (we’re still MEGA sad about this). The 80,000 glowing lights in Hollywood Studios covered the Streets of America (which are also gone) and brought what seemed like all the Christmas cheer in the world into the park. The spectacular Christmas lights show would light up and strobe along with the holiday music. And, boy, was it COOL!! Osborne Family Lights Although Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party each year, the Osborne Family Lights were THE sight to see in Disney World during the holidays. They lasted from 1995 to 2016, bringing in guests from all over the world to watch them. Plus, the magic of snoap filling the air as you held hot chocolate and a gingerbread cookie really made you feel like you were walking in a Winter Wonderland. Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights Although Disney World switched their Hollywood Studios Christmas show to Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! in 2016, it was never the same. Osborne Family Lights While we can’t see them in person anymore (sigh), they will live in memory through our photos and the spectacular videos of the Osborne Family Lights you can watch online. We DID get Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in its place sooo, maybe it’s not SO bad?? Click here to learn more about what replaced the Osbourne Lights! Take Off Your Shoes Unpredictable weather and unforeseen circumstances happen on your vacation — we totally get it. Sometimes your shoes break, your sneaks get waterlogged from Splash Mountain, or you keep sliding around in your flip flops on Main Street during torrential rain. But, taking off your shoes and walking around in your socks or barefoot is frowned upon in Disney World. Oh no! It’s raining in the Magic Kingdom! You will most likely not be allowed on rides or in stores or restaurants if you’re barefoot. Not to mention a Cast Member will probably ask you to put on a pair of shoes to be able to continue visiting the parks. That’s why we think it’s a great idea to pack a pair of extra sandals in your backpack just in case of an emergency. Be sure to check the forecast before you visit to try and plan accordingly too! And, if worse comes to worst, you can always have another party member buy a pair of shoes for you in one of the gift shops. Mickey and Minnie Flip-Flops Speaking of flip-flops, the one time you ARE allowed to take them off is during Soarin’ in Epcot! You can leave them in the pouches underneath your seat or on the ground before you take off. Soarin’ If you ask us, it can be strangely relaxing to have your legs dangling barefoot as you soar around the world! Buuut, even with all the things you CAN’T do, there are even more ways you’re actually able to make wonderful memories with your family and friends in Disney World! (Yes, even when it’s pouring rain. ) We love Disney World for the stuff that it LETS us do, so the couple things we can’t aren’t a big deal to us! Smoke outside the park limits, leave that full-head replica mask home, and enjoy yourself at the Disney World parks! Want to see even MORE things you can’t do at Disney World? Watch our video below! Lately, it seems like if we’re not working on a jigsaw puzzle, we’re probably busy doing a DIY Disney craft! ©Disney And today, Disney has just debuted an adorable new activity called Disney Paper Parks! Disney Paper Parks provides you with the “blueprints” to build some of your favorite things from the Disney parks at home! All you need to do is download and print out the activity sheets so you can build these fantastic 3-D models with stuff you probably have lying around! ©Disney The instructions include all the crafting materials and supplies you’ll need (such as scissors, glue, paperclips, etc.). So far, you can build your own mini replica of Main Street, U.S.A. complete with our favorite shop, the Emporium! ©Disney And you can also build a few floats from the new daytime Disneyland parade, Magic Happens! We thought this Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey Float looked familiar! If you’ll recall, Magic Happens debuted only a few weeks before the parks shut down. But now we can have a tiny Magic Happens paper parade anytime we want! ©Disney The activity sheets were created by two of the architects and designers from the Walt Disney Imagineering Design + Planning Studio, Stephanie Jazmines and Amy Young. We hope these designs are just the first of many and maybe someday we’ll be crafting our own paper Haunted Mansions and Enchanted Tiki Rooms (wouldn’t that be great?!). Check out where we found a tasty Fourth of July treat at Walt Disney World today! Will you be trying this activity? Let us know if you’re excited about Disney Paper Parks in the comments below! Ah, the T-shirt wall — one of our favorite spots to pick out new graphic tees at Walt Disney World! New T-Shirt Designs at World of Disney We’re always checking this massive display at World of Disney for new designs, and we spotted one today that looked strangely familiar! Blame it on our ’90s grunge days, but when we looked down and saw what we thought was a classic Nirvana “Smiley” shirt, we were surprised to see it was ACTUALLY a band tee for Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes! It has the EXACT same yellow lettering as the iconic Nirvana tee! Star Wars Graphic Tee You might only know this seven-piece ensemble as the Star Wars cantina band that specializes in jazzier tunes (which get regularly mixed with some techno beats by DJ Rex over at Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge), but maybe they’re branching out into grunge rock? Star Wars Graphic Tee Actually, it looks like they’re still holding lots of woodwind instruments, so strike that! It doesn’t look they’ll be covering “Heart-Shaped Box” anytime soon! Star Wars Graphic Tee If you’re digging this new Star Wars Graphic Tee, you’ll find it at World of Disney in Disney Springs for $24.99! And click here to see what we were REALLY surprised to see for sale there yesterday! Check out what we just saw FLYING off the shelves at World of Disney here! It’s easy to have a LOT on your mind during your Disney day. Cinderella Castle and Main Street USA in Disney World There’s no shortage of things to think about in Disney World! While you’re having a blast jumping around to all the best attractions and chowing down on the yummiest snacks, you’ll want to make sure that you’re having the best time possible. Here are 9 questions you should ALWAYS ask in Disney World to make the most out of your Disney day! 1. Can I have my meal WITHOUT that? Don’t want a side dish or an extra? Make sure to ask if you can have your meal without it. This has a couple of uses. First of all, at most quick-service spots, forgoing a side you don’t want can actually save you a few bucks. So, make sure you ask if you can get your meal WITHOUT that broccoli you hate or have them hold that bacon on your cheeseburger if it’s not your favorite! Endorian Fried Chicken Tip Yip This is also a great point for guests with food allergies. Disney is WONDERFUL when it comes to making food allergy-friendly so speak to a Cast Member about making sure that your meal is safe for you to eat. They will be happy to accommodate any stipulations you might need. Click here to learn more about navigating food allergies and intolerances in Disney World! 2. Am I wasting money right now? Speaking of saving money, you should ALWAYS ask yourself if you might be spending too much. Disney World is a super expensive place and it can be really easy to overspend. So, keep an eye on where your money is going, and make sure that you plan with a budget in mind!. Magic Kingdom Just know that there are lots of sneaky ways that Disney gets you to spend a little more than you might have intended. When you pay for something, like an After Hours event or the Disney Dining Plan, make sure that you’re getting your money’s worth! Little mistakes like not spending all of your snack credits can add up and end up costing you MUCH more out of pocket than you realize! Worried about spending more than you meant to in Disney World? Click here! 3. How long will it take to get there? You should really be asking this one CONSTANTLY. How long to get to that ride? Your advance dining reservation? The park gate in the morning? Back to the room at night? Walt Disney World Bus Transportation It can take a LOT longer than you might think to get around Disney World via Disney transportation. In general, we say allow an hour for travel between any two locations — especially if part of that hour includes bus travel. Disney transportation is prone to delays, and even if everything is running smoothly, lines can get long. You don’t want to be trapped on transportation so long that you’re late for your Advance Dining Reservation. If you DO end up running late, don’t worry! You might not be out of luck on those reservations. For dining, make sure to call the restaurant if possible to let them know that you’re running late, but still on your way! If you get there a few minutes late, explain your situation at the check-in podium. They might be able to accommodate your late arrival. Disney World Monorail Keep in mind, this can sometimes happen while you’re in the same park as your reservation — no transportation required! If Tower of Terror breaks down with you in line while you only have ten minutes to make it to your Oga’s Cantina reservation — you might run into some troubles. Cast Members understand that stuff happens — always explain your dilemma and see what can be done. Click here to see some potential solutions for Disney’s transportation problems 4. Can I get a different room? This is one that you should technically ask prior to your trip, but it’s still an important question! Don’t be afraid to ask if you can get a different/better room — and no, we don’t mean by necessarily spending more! Asking this question often means making a room request. You might be surprised by the little upgrades you can possibly get by just remembering to ask! 2 Bedroom Villa at Disney’s Riviera Resort Room requests can be done during your online check-in right before your trip. Remember, you can only select two requests on the online form for most resorts, so make sure you decide what’s important for YOUR family! These requests can cover all sorts of things within your room category like a lower floor or higher floor, a room that’s closer to the lobby, and even a balcony. Keep in mind, these online requests vary with each hotel. Polynesian Room If you want a little more flexibility with your room request, you can also call Guest Services around five days in advance. That way, you can get in contact with the front desk at your hotel and be able to make specific requests to the Cast. Now, room requests are never guaranteed but it can’t hurt to ask! If you’ve already arrived and dislike your room, you can always ask for a room change! Cast members will do their best to accommodate you, though you may need to wait a day or two before you can be switched into a room more to your liking. Click here to learn more secret tips to upgrade your trip! 5. What’s the most important thing for us to do today? We think asking this question is key to having a good time on your Disney trip. There is a LOT to do in Disney World and with so much planning required, there’s a lot of room for things to go wrong. Now, just because something doesn’t go the way you wanted it to doesn’t mean your trip will be disappointing — not if you prioritize! Magic Kingdom Spend some time each day to talk about what the top three or four must-dos are for your Disney day. Make sure that you hit those things and let everything else fall into place around them. If you decide what’s MOST important and focus on those, you won’t have to feel nearly as stressed about meeting your perfectly structured plans! Keep in mind EVERYONE should, ideally, get a say. If your five year old HAS to see all the characters, mom is looking for a relaxing lunch, and your 17-year-old is dying to ride Rise of the Resistance, try to work everyone’s plans into your days. Your crew might have a much more enjoyable trip if everyone feels included. Is food a priority for you? Click here for some must-eat snacks! 6. Do we really want to go to our Dining Reservation tomorrow? If you’ve got Advance Dining Reservations, you’ll want to ask yourself one very important question the day BEFORE your reservation. Do we really want to go to that reservation tomorrow? This is so important because you can rack up some charges if you don’t show up — or if you cancel the same day of the reservation! Turtle Cheesecake at Coral Reef Restaurant For most restaurants, Disney required a credit card confirmation when making that dining reservation. This is so they can charge you if you bail on your res last minute — we’re talking $10 per person! So, remember to ask this question! Many folks have at least one Advance Dining Reservation each day, so get in the habit of asking yourself and your party this question each morning so you have plenty of time to adjust your plans for the next day with no fee! Click here to learn more about Disney’s ADR cancellation policy! 7. Will we enjoy this ride? You might already be in the practice of asking this question, especially if you’ve got kids. When you’re heading up to ride an attraction, make sure you ask yourself and your party if you’ll ACTUALLY enjoy the ride you’re about to get on. Mission: SPACE Yes, rides are a lot of fun, but there are a number of factors that can make them a nightmare for certain folks. For instance, if you have motion sickness, you’ll want to be wary of motion simulators like Star Tours – The Adventure Continues or (possibly the worst offender) Mission: SPACE. There’s nothing worse than having to make use of that barf bag that they sometimes keep in the seats. Also, be careful of heights if they scare you (lookin’ at you, Tower of Terror)! Tower of Terror Sign Like we mentioned, this is especially important with littles. Remember, just because your kid is tall enough for a ride does NOT mean they are necessarily ready. Some kiddos might jump at the chance to ride scary coasters, but make sure you know their limits. When in doubt, watch a Youtube video of the ride with your kid BEFORE your trip to let them decide if it might be too scary, and never push them to try something that could ruin their day. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Guitar The good news is, if anyone doesn’t want to ride, the rest of the party can often use Rider Switch. This service allows part of the party to wait in line and ride with those who DO want to, while someone hangs with the ones who can’t (or would prefer not to) ride the attraction. Then, the folks who waited can switch and hop in the FastPass line for their turn to ride! To see if Rider Swap is an option for you, talk to one of the Cast Members at the attraction. Click here for more tips on introducing kids to coasters! 8. Will we need to take a break? Some more experienced Disney-goers may not need to ask this question as much. Still, if something changes about your travel group (the addition of kids, kids getting older, or a health concern) or if it’s your first time going to Disney, you need to think about taking a break. Animal Kingdom Lodge Room Some people like to go from park open to park close, but many folks need a rest and that’s perfectly OK! You’re still getting your money’s worth if you take a break from being in the parks — so don’t feel bad if you can make your day better with a nap or a dip in the pool! It’s YOUR vacation. Just make sure you plan for it if you’re thinking about heading back to the room. Don’t book FastPasses or dining around the time you might plan to take a break and make sure it’s planned out so you don’t run into any reservation issues. Want to make the most out of resort time? Click here! 9. Am I ready for rain? And finally, Disney World is the Most Magical Place on Earth, but it’s still in Florida and that means RAIN. LOTS and LOTS of rain. Especially in those summer months. Even if the forecast doesn’t call for it, you should make sure you’re prepared for a sudden downpour. A Rainy Magic Kingdom So, bring along a poncho! Of course, you can pick up rain gear in the Disney parks, but coming prepared means you won’t have to dole out the extra cash. This is especially important during hurricane season. Keep an eye on that radar and hourly forecast throughout the day, and have a poncho at the ready just in case you’re caught off guard! Need more tips? Check out our video below! We’ve seen so many great examples of guests creating fun experiences at home inspired by Disney parks. It’s been incredibly fun and rewarding to see so many fantastic reactions to favorite theme parks, attractions, characters—you name it! The Disney Parks Blog asked two of the architects and designers from the Walt Disney Imagineering Design + Planning Studio to contribute their talents to help more guests bring a piece of the Disney parks to life in your own homes. Bob Weis, president of Walt Disney Imagineering, recently shared, “We have always been inspired by the incredible passion of our Disney park fans. Seeing your creativity and shared love for the experiences Imagineers create has really lifted our spirits.” We are excited to share, Disney Paper Parks – printable activity sheets complete with instructions to create 3D versions of Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland park, floats from the new “Magic Happens” parade and other Disney parks favorites! The sheets, created for the Disney Parks Blog by talented Imagineers Stephanie Jazmines and Amy Young, require the use of scissors or glue and folding along dotted lines in specific directions. For best results, we recommend printing the sheets at their actual size, not scaling them to fit the page. We also recommend adult participation or supervision for those with little ones to help make this great activity even more enjoyable. Have fun and stay tuned for more Disney Paper Parks activity sheets! As domestic theme parks like Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando have begun to reopen, we’ve been sharing for weeks what it’s like to return to a theme park — and to pick up a few clues about what Walt Disney World will be like when it reopens! We already know there will be LOTS of similarities to other theme parks, like physical distancing measures, contactless menu and payment options, and required face coverings, which we’ve already checked out at Disney Springs and at the reopened Disney resort hotels. But, never one to play follow the leader, Disney is also going off the beaten path with quite a few new and unique reopening procedures at Disney World. Magic Kingdom A lot of these differences have to do with the fact that Disney World is so MASSIVE that there’s really no comparison to other theme parks. So, of COURSE they have to break the mold — they don’t even fit into it in the first place! Let’s look at some of the ways Disney World has flipped the playbook on theme park reopening. The Theme Parks Will NOT Use Virtual Queues for Their Rides and Attractions Long before Disney World announced their reopening dates, there was a LOT of speculation that the parks would use virtual queues to control crowds at the most popular rides and attractions. This turned out NOT to be the case at all, despite other theme parks like Universal Orlando implementing a whole new virtual queue experience in their parks! Virtual Line When Disney World reopens in July, ALL of the rides will only have standby queues available — even Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Before the closure, guests were only able to ride Rise of the Resistance by first securing a virtual Boarding Group. But, when Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopens on July 15th, guests will have to use the standby queue for Rise, just like every the other Disney World attraction. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance Shanghai Disneyland originally opened with no virtual queues but has since rolled out their Standby Pass system, so we can’t rule out virtual queues completely just yet! But, Disney World’s decision to reopen without virtual queues was definitely a surprise move we weren’t expecting! Read more about Disney World’s decision NOT to use virtual queues here! They Are Simultaneously Hosting Professional Sports Not only is Disney World reopening their theme parks and resorts to thousands of guests, they’re also opening their doors to two major professional sports leagues! NBA Experience The NBA and MLS will be resuming their regular seasons at Disney World, specifically at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The NBA is creating a “bubble,” isolating players, coaches, and staff at three Disney World resorts when they aren’t at the Wide World of Sports Complex. Similarly, MLS players have begun to arrive and are being housed at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, which will be closed to guests through July 29th. ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex If the world didn’t have its eyes on Disney World’s historic theme-park reopening already, it is CERTAINLY watching now for this unprecedented period in the sports world! Be sure to mark your calendars with your team’s game schedule! The MLS Is Back Tournament begins on July 8th and the NBA season resumes on July 30th. Read all the details about the NBA coming to Disney World here! They Are Revamping Their Dining Experience With Mobile Dine Check-In A common procedural update across many theme parks as they reopen is the increased use of contactless experiences like Mobile Order, particularly at counter-service dining locations. Mobile Order has been a staple in Disney parks for a few years now, and recently we’ve seen it pushed harder at a reopened Universal Orlando. Mobile Order being offered at Primo Piatto at Disney’s Riviera Resort When it comes to table-service dining, however, Disney has created an entirely NEW system to further reduce contact between guests and cast members. Mobile Dine Check-In allows guests to check in to their dining reservation without having to visit a host stand. They simply scan a QR code located in the lobby of the restaurant, or they check in on the My Disney Experience app up to 30 minutes prior to their reservation time. You’re Checked In! Amongst all of the temporary measures we have seen Disney adopt in this phased reopening, it seems like this may be one of those new additions that will be here to stay! Learn more about Mobile Dine Check-In here! They Are NOT Checking Temperatures at Their Resort Hotels! Disney World is breaking the mold in all sorts of ways! While in most cases Disney seems to go above and beyond their competitors, this is one major departure that had us raising our eyebrows. Temperature Screening at Disney Springs When we visited the reopened Disney Vacation Club resorts, we learned that Disney is NOT checking guest temperatures upon entry at the hotels. We totally expected Disney to be checking temperatures EVERYWHERE, as they have been at Disney Springs and are expected to at the theme parks. Wristband After Temperature Check at Universal Orlando’s Aventura Hotel Universal Orlando has been checking temperatures at their resorts, leading us to expect Disney to do the same, so this was a MAJOR move in a different direction that we didn’t see coming! Check out what our experience has been like getting our temperature checked at Disney Springs here! They Essentially Wiped Their Reservation System “Clean” Soon after Disney World announced the reopening of their parks and resorts, they started to make drastic moves to essentially clean out their ENTIRE system. This came in the form of canceling all existing dining reservations and the Disney Dining Plan, canceling existing FastPass+ reservations and suspending the entire FastPass+ system, and canceling tours and experiences. Haunted Mansion Since then, Disney has begun allowing eligible guests to begin rebooking dining reservations as well as some experiences in the parks and resorts. Droid Depot Disney has also completely “frozen” 2020 reservations, and you STILL can’t make a new package reservation or purchase tickets for 2020. While 2021 packages are currently available for booking, Disney is likely trying to figure out how many guests with existing 2020 reservations still plan to visit this year before they allow guests to make new reservations. So WHY can’t anyone buy tickets for 2020 STILL!? Click here to learn more! Not Everything Has Been Reopening on the Same Day, or Even in the Same Month Disney World took a very slow and deliberate approach to reopening their parks and resorts. Some of this has had to do with the phased reopening of the state of Florida, which allowed shops and restaurants to reopen ahead of theme parks. This meant Disney Springs came first with their phased reopening that began on May 20th. World of Disney Next came the resorts, with Disney Vacation Club resorts opening on June 22nd, before other Disney World resort hotels. Beach Club Even the four theme parks are reopening on separate dates! Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom open on July 11th and EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios open on July 15th. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Still, by the time EVERY park and resort has reopened, it will have been a months-long process. We may not even see all of the resorts reopen in 2020, although that is yet to be confirmed at this time. Check out the reopening dates for all of the confirmed Disney World Resorts slated to open in 2020 here! In many ways, Disney World has had no choice but to break the mold and forge their own reopening path! These events are truly unprecedented, and Disney certainly has no playbook to reference. They’ve had to make some tough business decisions in order to prioritize the safety of cast members and guests. This is reflected in the health and safety guidelines we have seen come out in recent weeks, and in Disney’s slower reopening than some of the other theme parks. Even after the parks reopen in July, we’re betting Disney will still need to make some big decisions that could be seen as radical shake-ups in the theme park world! In what ways has Disney World surprised YOU the most during the phased reopening? Let us know in the comments! The reopening of Disneyland has been rocky. Downtown Disney’s World of Disney The reopening date for the parks and resorts was announced, only to be delayed. Now, we know that Downtown Disney will be opening as planned (with a few changes!) on July 9th despite the suspension of indoor operations for several sectors in California counties. Earlier today, California Governor Gavin Newsom mandated that all restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos, and museums and cardrooms in 19 counties, including Orange County, where Disneyland resides, must close their indoor operations. But that’s not stopping Downtown Disney. Black Tap Craft Burger and Shakes According to People, Downtown Disney will be opening on July 9th, but all restaurants will only have outdoor seating. By making this change, Disney is able to open the shopping, dining, and entertainment complex while staying within the confines of the new government action. Impossible Lettuce Cups at Ballast Point in Downtown Disney Governor Newsom’s action will limit indoor operations for the next three weeks at least. From iced beverages to chicken wings, we’ve been tasting our way around new menu items at Disney Springs! Wine Bar George And when we saw a new addition to the menu at Wine Bar George, we had to swing by to give it a try! So, what’s the new addition?? Wine Bar George is now offering a Fried Fish Sandwich! Served on a brioche bun, this sandwich includes pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, and gribiche sauce. It also comes with a side of fries. Fried Fish Sandwich at Wine Bar George We thought the fish itself was AMAZING! The breading is light and buttery and the fish is tender and flaky. Sliced, unripe tomatoes line the bottom of the sandwich while fresh grape tomatoes lie on top. Fried Fish Sandwich The gribiche sauce was super tangy, and we would say it’s an acquired taste — it definitely added a lot of flavor to the sandwich! And the pickles paired well with the sauce! We did notice that the sandwich was really messy to eat. Eating it can get a little messy… The fries were also delicious! Generously salted and spiced, they were a filling addition to the meal.
