We don’t know about you, but we are SO excited about the new ride coming to Magic Kingdom.

Yep, we’re talking about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which will be a brand-new ride built over the bones of the old Splash Mountain attraction in both Disney World and Disneyland. We’ve been following all the updates regarding the ride and keeping an eye on construction, and today, we spotted something NEW at the ride in Disney World. This update is for YOU, Mama Odie fans.

So we had to SQUINT to see these new details, but we got a photo of the spot on the ride just before the drop (if you remember where that was from the old Splash Mountain). And we spotted some colorful NEW lanterns.

Do you see the lanterns?

Here’s a close-up shot of them.

Lanterns!

Although we can only see a few bottles right now, the ride model Disney shared way back in 2022 shows what this will eventually look like — all those glowing lanterns will be hanging above the area right before the big drop.

So, why are we excited about these lanterns? Well, these are Mama Odie’s lanterns! We’ve seen some concept art of how Mama Odie will appear in the ride.

According to Disney, this scene is where Mama Odie is joking with guests after showing off her magic. “The two-hundred-year-old Bayou Fairy Godmother, with her eccentric belongings and ‘seeing eye snake,’ Juju, is comically eccentric, yet wise and all-knowing, throughout the adventure.” Yes, Jennifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog, is reprising her role for the ride.

As you can see in both pieces of concept art, Mama Odie has lots of multicolored lanterns hanging over her. So it looks like the ride’s big drop could be part of Mama Odie showing off her magic? Or maybe we need to “dig a little deeper” to discover what this part of the ride is about?

Of course, we won’t know for sure until Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens later this year. We’ll keep an eye out for more updates, though, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
