2022 Tangierine Cafe: Flavors of the Medina (Festival of the Arts)

The 2024 EPCOT Festival has officially started and we are SO ready to dive into some great food, see some fun entertainment, buy TONS of merchandise, and participate in the Colorful Cuisine stroll. But mostly, we’re here for the food, and getting you reviews on EVERYTHING. So  now, we’re heading to to Tangierine Cafe: Flavors of the Medina in Morocco.

Menu

Here, you’ll find fresh, vibrant flavors from the Mediterranean and North Africa. This year, the Grilled Kebabs are back, along with the Stone-baked Moroccan Bread. But a NEW Chocolate Cake is available this time around!

Now that we’ve taken a look at the menu, let’s dive into the food itself!

Eats

First up, we grabbed the Grilled Kebabs with carrot-chickpea salad and garlic aïoli for $6.25. You can choose from two Kebabs, one made with Chermoula Chicken and another made with Moroccan-spiced Lamb. We ordered both this year, but started off with the lamb!

There was a little sweetness in the lamb that added a fun, exotic element to it overall. We thought this was more interesting flavor-wise than the chicken.

Inside the Lamb Kebab

In the past, we found the chicken kebab to be a bit dry, and this year was somewhat of the same. The chicken isn’t particularly interesting or flavorful, and of the two, we would recommend the lamb over this.

Also returning this year is the Plant-Based Stone-baked Moroccan Bread with hummus, chermoula, and zhoug dips for $5. In the past, we found this bread so light and fluffy that it didn’t even NEED dips. The hummus was just regular hummus, though, and we got a lot of garlic from the Zhoug dip (but we liked it). The chermoula tasted strongly of olives, so could be controversial. So how’s everything this year?

This is SO fun! It’s like a Moroccan charcuterie board in a way. We really enjoyed mixing and matching the flavors. The Zhoug dip was definitely the winner for us of the dips though — you can really taste the herbs and the garlic and oil. All the flavors mix together to create something quite delicious. The hummus had a little bit of a sour kick to it this year, which was a smidge bizarre to us.

Finally, we had to end our meal here with a little something sweet. the Chocolate Cake with pomegranate mousse and pomegranate whipped cream for $5 is new this year and we were really looking forward to checking out these flavors.

This wasn’t too tart or sour, and it was surprisingly light and fluffy! The mousse had a really great texture and we went back for seconds almost immediately. The chocolate cake on the bottom adds a nice creaminess to the bottom. This probably isn’t the best dessert at the festival, but it was quite good!

But what about the drinks?

Drinks

In terms of drinks at this booth, we got the Twinings Chai Tea with Sprite and mint for $4.50. This is a returning drink, and we had mixed feelings about this previously. If you’re a non-drinker, this could be fun because it feels mimosa adjacent.

However, the taste is where this lost us. It tasted kinda like we brushed our teeth and then immediately drank a Sprite. Seriously, this is the type of weird feeling you get when you try to drink for the first time after a trip to the dentist. We finished this one off feeling minty fresh and very confused.

We also ordered the Hard Cider Flight for $10.25.

Hard Cider Flight

The Blake’s Hard Cider Co. Grizzly Pear Hard Cider is the first of the drinks, and it ended up being our least loved of the group. It was kind of sour and tart — mix that with the pear flavor and it didn’t quite sit right with us.

On paper, the Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime Hard Cider sounds AMAZING. And in reality? It was our favorite of the bunch! It’s overly sweet with lots of strawberry, but it reminded us of a soda you might get at Club Cool.

The Keel Farms Blueberry Lavender Hard Cider has an interesting blend of flavors, and it kind of lands middle-of-the-road for us. It has a floral essence that could be off-putting if that’s not your jam, but the blueberry does pull through as well.

So how does Tangierine Cafe stack up this year?

OVERALL

One thing about Tangierine Cafe is that it just continues to be mostly the same thing each festival. If you like kebabs, hummus, and pita, then this is a good go-to spot to get reliably decent food. None of the eats really knocked our socks off this go around, but we were pleased with most of the food and could eat it again.

The drinks were a little more out of left field, with the “mimosa” and some of the ciders really throwing us for a loop. If you’re interested in trying something that’s more outside the box beverage-wise, this might be your spot!
