Okay, we’re just going to tell you now — we’re NEVER not excited about new food in Disney World.

Chef Mickey’s

Now that we’ve said goodbye to all those holiday foods and drinks, we’re gearing up for the next round of new Disney snacks. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, after all. But we also keep an eye on Disney World restaurant menu changes, and one in particular, really caught our eye. We’ll give you two words: Croissant Beignets.

Okay, so when we first learned that Croissant Beignets had been added to the buffet at Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, we IMMEDIATELY made an advance dining reservation for breakfast. Just the IDEA of two of our favorite pastries being combined like that has us giddy. Now, croissant beignets aren’t necessarily something Disney invented. They’ve been around for a while and sometimes they’re even called “Croisseignets.”

Are we there yet?

Finally, the day came for our breakfast at Chef Mickey’s.  We practically RAN all the way to the restaurant because we couldn’t wait to try this new treat. Seriously, this is the kind of thing we LIVE for. So we finally made it to our breakfast reservation and said hello to some of the characters there, but sorry, Mickey, we’re here for the Croissant Beignets.

Oh, hi, Mickey!

We made our way to the buffet stations. Finally, there they were in ALL their glory (cue the trumpets). Plus there are dipping sauces!

We found them!

So we made our way quickly back to our table (okay, we picked up a few other food items, too). We’ll admit that we’ve already hyped the Croissant Beignets up in our minds. So did they meet our expectations? Well, the answer is a resounding, “YES!”

It’s TIME

These are EXACTLY like what we’d expect from something that’s both a croissant and a beignet. It’s basically a beignet made with croissant dough — you know those wonderful buttery layers that make a croissant a croissant. Then they’re fried like a beignet and topped with cinnamon sugar.

Look at those buttery layers

We ate three of these babies before we felt like we’d properly sampled them. They are VERY sweet and a smidge greasy (they ARE fried, after all), but they’re a delicious addition to the breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey’s. But now, y’all, we need a NAP.

We also tried a few other things at the buffet, and we’ll get to that review soon. But we just had to tell you about the Croissant Beignets ASAP because we couldn’t contain ourselves.
