World of Frozen recently opened in Hong Kong Disneyland, but Disney has no plans on stopping there.

Back in September, Disney announced its plans to increase its investments in parks, entertainment, and experiences for the next 10 years. That means $60 billion in the next decade compared to $30 billion in the previous. But what does this look like for the Disney parks? Disney’s Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro had some thoughts.

Disney had previously stated that they plan to continue expanding their theme parks. World of Frozen seems to be just the beginning for the entertainment giant. In an interview with USA Today, D’Amaro assured us that Disney has “no shortage of space or stories” to continue adding expansions across its national and international parks.

Alongside D’Amaro in the interview were Disney CEO Bob Iger, Frozen’s creator and co-director and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee, and Disney Entertainment Co-chairman Alan Bergman. D’Amaro credited Lee and Bergman with continuing to give the company stories to use for generations to come stating, “Our ambitions here are clear. These two have given us amazing stories. And I plan to tell those stories.”

When discussing the expansion opportunities D’Amaro commented, “At the Disneyland Resort, we’ve talked about the project called DisneylandForward. Essentially, we have enough space there to build a new Disneyland if we’d like. Walt Disney World was always designed to be expanding. You know what we’ve done at EPCOT … Our international parks are doing so well for us, and we have space and ambition to continue to go on that front.”

Many plans are already underway such as the Zootopia land in Shanghai that opens next month and another Frozen-inspired land being constructed in Paris. But according to D’Amaro, there are lots of ideas that are in the “blue sky” phase of development including the ideas for a new land in Magic Kingdom. D’Amaro added, “Rest assured, we have Imagineers running very quickly in the background.”

We might not have seen the end of Frozen, either. Lee stated, regarding Frozen, “Expanding in (the) parks makes total sense because I think for generations, young kids and families and adults are going to love the movies, the merchandise, the rides, what they see on Disney+, the music, the stage play.”

We may be waiting for more details about these “blue sky” projects, but in the meantime, Disney has announced many new and upcoming additions to the parks in the U.S. and abroad. We’ll be on the lookout for more details as we continue to get closer to 2024!
