Disney4me
Planning a Disney World vacation can feel like a LOT. View of Contemporary shops and restaurants Between figuring out transportation, snagging your advanced dining reservations, and researching the complicated Genie+ system — it can feel overwhelming! Choosing a Disney hotel is certainly no different. There’s a lot to consider when deciding where to stay while you’re at Disney World, and if you don’t have all the info you might end up disappointed once you get there. So we’re looking at some of the reasons you might regret staying in certain Disney hotels this year. 1. Disney’s BoardWalk Resort Disney’s BoardWalk is conveniently located between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it’s a pretty popular Deluxe resort with some impressive amenities. But, it’s currently in the middle of a few construction projects. Boardwalk Lobby If you stay at this hotel, you’ll have to put up with construction in multiple areas of the resort. There’s a new table service restaurant coming to the BoardWalk — The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers. While this is set to open sometime in 2023, there is still a bit to be done before we get to enjoy this whimsical dining location. In the meantime, expect lots of construction sounds! The bathroom in the lobby has been under construction for quite some time now, and the concierge lounge is closed for a little while longer as well. Bathrooms in the Lobby are under construction If your trip is late this year, all of these projects might not affect your stay — but keep them in mind when you’re planning! 2. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is Disney World’s premier Deluxe Resort — and that comes with a hefty price tag! But unfortunately, this hotel is also undergoing some major construction at the moment. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa Currently, many of the buildings at this resort are getting refurbishments — so you’ll notice scaffolding, construction, and noises while you’re there. scaffolding In addition to these inconveniences, the walkway between Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom is currently closed. While you’ll still be able to get there by Monorail, if you were hoping to take advantage of this pleasant stroll on the way to or from Magic Kingdom, you won’t have the chance until sometime in late spring. MORE construction Furthermore, there are still parts of this resort that haven’t reopened since 2020. 1900 Park Fare previously offered buffet dining for breakfast and dinner — with characters — but it’s STILL closed. 1900 Park Fare is still closed So, overall, this is a fancy resort with a lot of amenities, but there are definitely some setbacks that you’ll encounter in 2023. 3. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort In case you haven’t had enough construction news, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also undergoing a major overhaul. Disney is currently in the process of expanding this resort to include more Disney Vacation Club villas, which will bring new recreation and dining options. Polynesian Village Resort However, it’s not scheduled to finish until late 2024, so that’s a long time to deal with the construction! While work is being done on this new building, the walkway between the Polynesian and the Grand Floridan has a detour as well. Polynesian walkway Now, to get between the resorts, you’ll have to take a walk along a road that is less scenic than the previous stroll. 4. Caribbean Beach Resort Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has a lot to offer — it’s a moderate resort with a few dining locations, it’s right next to Disney’s Riviera Resort (a Deluxe resort with some GREAT food options), and it’s conveniently located next to the Disney’s Skyliner. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort However, this resort is BIG. The buildings are very spread out, and it will take a fair amount of time to get around the resort. And, you guessed it, they are undergoing construction! Because this resort is so spread out, you might not notice it while you’re there. However, this does affect some of the dining locations on property. Sign for Spyglass Grill Spyglass Grill, is a quick-service restaurant that typically serves a hot breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But during construction, this location has changed its menu, so throughout the day you’ll only be able to get a grab-and-go meal. This cuts down on the convenient dining options you’ll have while you’re there! 5. All-Star Resorts Lastly, the All-Star Resorts are a collection of Value Resorts (Disney’s “budget” hotels). These hotels could be a great option if you are looking to stay somewhere on property without a hefty price tag, but it does mean sacrificing some conveniences. First, the food court dining isn’t bad, but it’s your only option and it’s nothing fancy. All-Star Resorts You’ll also be looking at smaller rooms, fewer amenities, and a more crowded resort. These resorts are popular with big groups — so they can sometimes feel loud and very busy. And don’t forget — the only transportation here are Disney buses, which can be inconvenient on its own. But add in the delays you’ll experience with all the added crowds, and it can be downright stressful. So across Disney World’s Resort Hotels, there are quite a few things to look out for when planning your vacation! A lot of construction is going on in 2023 that can have a big impact on your stay. Watch out for these inconveniences while you figure out what resort works best for you and your family.
