Disney4me
There’s a lot of planning that goes into a Disney trip. At least the castle should be open! Part of having a successful trip is figuring out what attractions are on your wish list and planning accordingly. Unfortunately, ride closures are a reality and can massively affect your vacation! This January will bring a ton of closures to the parks, both at Disneyland and Disney World. Unfortunately, 2 of the rides scheduled to close are both popular attractions in Magic Kingdom. Both Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain are scheduled to close in January of 2023. Big Thunder is closing temporarily from Monday, January 9th through Friday, January 13th, most likely for some annual maintenance. If this is your must-do ride in Magic Kingdom, make sure to get your rides in before or after these dates! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad While guests will have a chance to get back on Big Thunder, this is the last call for anyone who wants to ride Splash Mountain as it exists currently. On January 23rd, 2023, the ride will be closed permanently as it undergoes a retheming into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This means that guests’ last chance to ride the attraction will be on January 22nd, 2023. This is scheduled to be a long refurbishment, with the new ride roughly scheduled to premier in late 2024. Splash Mountain With these and other rides being closed, that means longer wait times for other attractions, so that’s something to keep in mind on your next trip. If these 2 rides are non-negotiables for you, make sure to hop on both before their scheduled closing dates!
