Why Isn’t Disney World Doing Butter Boards?

We’ve seen all kinds of food trends in Disney World — the delicious, the photogenic, and then some that were neither of those things.

We’ve had our fair share of pretty cupcakes and yummy savory snacks, but we’ve also tried everything from octopus-topped cocktails to moldy-looking sandwich buns. But amongst all those thousands of snacks, there’s still one trend that we’ve yet to see at Disney World — the butter board!

What IS a Butter Board?

The first question you’re probably going to ask is “Hey, DFB, what IS a butter board?” and for that, we have a most delicious answer. A butter board is basically like a charcuterie board, but for bread and butter! They became incredibly popular recently thanks to TikTok and the rest of the internet. To make one, you take a wooden board (like you would with a charcuterie) and slather that thing in butter.

Once you’ve created the design of your liking, you top your butter with herbs, spices, cheese, honey, or whatever other garnish you prefer. You can cover the entire board in those toppings, or you can split it into sections so that there are different butter “flavors” available. Then, to go along with your butter board, you’ll need to have some bread handy (possibly toasted!). Your guests (or you, if this is a personal snack) can scrape up the butter and spread it across the bread.

We’ve seen some people dive into the butter boards with the piece of bread, which is perfectly acceptable for a party of one, but if you’re serving it up as a group snack, you might want to provide butter knives. You know, for the sake of keeping things sanitary.

Why Hasn’t Disney Hopped on This Trend?

Well after reading that explanation, there’s probably a second question on your mind — “Why hasn’t Disney capitalized on this delicious trend?” And we’ll be honest, we’re definitely hoping that they do in the future, but we might have to wait a little while!

Disney Springs would be a great place for butter boards!

There are a LOT of new menu items and snacks popping up constantly in Disney World, and many of those are planned far in advance of their release. Because of this, it can sometimes take a little while for trends to hit the parks. And in terms of the trend itself, it’s still a relatively new concept. (Although we’re expecting to see it making the rounds at holiday parties this year!)

So How Could Disney World Do Butter Boards?

Disney, if you’re reading this and looking for ideas for incorporating butter boards…we’ve got PLENTY. Most of the restaurants that serve charcuterie boards in the parks, hotels, and Disney Springs could probably do a version of a butter board. (And if that happens, you can guarantee we’ll show up to stuff our faces!)

However, there are some technical challenges to bringing a butter board to life in Florida. It’s no secret that it gets swelteringly hot here, so it’s probably best to either make this a winter menu item, or to only serve butter boards at indoor restaurants. Otherwise, you’ll be dealing with an oily, drippy mess. Our goal definitely isn’t to finish the meal looking like we stuck our hands under the liquid butter pump at the movie theater!

It gets HOT in Disney World, and butter isn’t really a summer snack.

But once the logistics are worked out, we could definitely see this becoming a trend at the Disney Springs restaurants or at some of Disney World’s signature dining locations. We actually tried something remotely related at Le Celliertheir beef fat candle.

If we need to Disney-fy the butter boards, then it would be easy to swipe that butter into a Mickey shape or choose toppings that color-coordinate with favorite characters. There are so many delicious possibilities, our mouths are watering already!

So we’ll be patiently waiting for the arrival of butter boards in Disney World. (And maybe doing some DIY versions on our own until then.) While we wait, we’ll be out and about in the parks trying all the seasonal snacks, so stay tuned for the latest food reviews!
