Disney4me
The 2021 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is underway and we’ve been working on bringing you all the tips, tricks, and festival coverage we can to get you prepared for your visit! It’s Food and Wine Festival season once again! We’ve long talked about the importance of budgeting for the Food & Wine Festival and shared our tips for budgeting. Yesterday we finally got a full look at all of the items that are available at the Festival this year and got to try a whole bunch of them. While some are a great value for what you pay, others are just TOO expensive. Which ones are too pricey? We’re sharing all the details here! Pizza from Brew-Wing At the brand NEW Brew-Wing booth at the EPCOT Experience, you’ll find wings (in 5 different flavors) and 2 flatbread pizzas, as well as a variety of drinks. There are 2 flavors of flatbread pizza available here — cheese and pepperoni. We enjoyed eating these and they could be a good option for kids, but they aren’t something we’d probably order again. The big kicker here is the price. Cheese Flatbread The cheese flatbread is priced at $9, while the pepperoni flatbread is $9.50. That’s a pretty hefty price to pay for this amount of pizza, especially considering it wasn’t anything that blew us away. Click here to see our full review of the Brew-Wing Booth! Basically All of the Italy Booth This year the Italy Booth is serving up one returning dish and 2 new items. The returning item the Bomboloni, consists of 3 little cream-filled Italian doughnuts with raspberry sauce and powdered sugar. These were pretty basic and lacking a bit in the flavor department. AND they’re priced at $11! Bomboloni Considering that you can get 4 larger donuts for $16 at The Donut Box, we think these little treats are just too expensive. The Donut Box: Pack of the 4 Daily Donuts Another pricey dish at the Italy booth is the Mezzelune Croccanti. This dish is made of Crispy Half-moon Breaded Mozzarella-filled Ravioli with Pomodoro Sauce. While we actually thought this was really tasty, it basically tasted like Mozzarella sticks and they were priced at $12. Considering you get about 5 in each serving, that’s about $2.40 each which we feel is just too expensive for what you’re getting. Mezzelune Croccanti Finally, the dish that disappointed us the most from the Italy booth was the most expensive one there. The Grilled Chicken Ravioli with Alfredo Sauce, Romano Cheese, and Prezzemolo is priced at $13. The pasta was rubbery, the chicken was flavorless, and the sauce was gritty. Plus, you only get a few ravioli for that pretty high price. Chicken Ravioli We think you’re better off spending that $13 on 1 or potentially even 2 or 3 other dishes at the festival, like some of the items on our Best of the Fest list! Click here to see our full review of the Italy booth! A Small Bao Bun Next on our list is the NEW ZiRan Beef Bao Bun, which features Grilled Beef with Cumin, from the China booth. This bao bun was actually very tasty, but still not overly special. If it had a stronger cumin flavor, that might have made it go higher up on our list. But again the biggest issue here is the price compared to the size. ZiRan Beef Bao Bun The bao bun itself is pretty small and is priced at $7.25. In comparison, you could get quite a few items that actually made it onto our Best of the Fest list (which generally are better in flavor and many of which provide more in terms of quantity) for under $7. ZiRan Beef Bao Bun For example, you could grab the Chilaquiles con Chorizo for $7 from the Mexico booth, the Tuna Poke for $7 from the Hawai’i booth, the Crispy Pig Ear Salad from the Swanky Saucy Swine for just $5.25, and the Schinkennudeln from the Germany booth for just $4.50 (all of which are on our Best of the Fest list). Tuna Poke Bowl In other words, while the bao bun wasn’t bad by any means (again, we thought it was tasty!), if you’re going to spend $7, there are other things that could give you a better bang for your buck and your taste buds (at least in our opinion). Apple Chips Finally, we reach the last item on our list which are the Apple Chips from Appleseed Orchard. Oh goodness. When we saw these Apple Chips listed on the menu we expected they’d perhaps be freshly made or something unique. Instead, for $4(!) we got a pre-made bag of apple chips. Apple Chips To make matters worse, the bag was only about 1/3 of the way full. Apple Chips The chips themselves were not anything mind-blowing. Apple Chips In our opinion $4 for this pre-made bag of partially full and not that exciting chips is WAY too expensive. Again, like we mentioned above, there are quite a few fresh, delicious items from our Best of the Fest list that are just over $4 and are WELL worth the cash particularly when compared to this snack. Granted, we understand that this snack is gluten/wheat friendly so that may be important to people’s diets, but there are actually a pretty large number of gluten/wheat friendly items at the Festival this year and we think some others would be a much better choice in terms of value. Click here to see our review of the rest of the items at Appleseed Orchard. And that’s our list of the 4 items (well 4-ish since we added in a few extras) at the Food & Wine Festival that we think are just too expensive considering what you’re getting. Do you totally disagree with us? Is one of these items a must-get for you that you think is 100% worth the cost? Tell us in the comments below, we’d love to hear your thoughts!
