Disney Cruise Line has revealed some of the design touches for its next ship, including the Grand Hall of Disney Wish, which will feature a bronze statue of Cinderella at the base of the staircase.

The princess fits into the overall “enchantment” theme that guided team members of Walt Disney Imagineering in the planning of the ship, which is set to debut in summer 2022. It will be the fifth vessel of the DCL fleet.

As with its predecessors, Wish will have Disney characters incorporated throughout. Captain Minnie Mouse will be featured in filigree artwork on the bow, and Rapunzel, the heroine of “Tangled,” and her chameleon pal Pascal will be seen as sculptures on the stern. Friday’s news release made broad references to onboard franchises including Pixar, Marvel and “Star Wars.”

The Grand Hall’s look also is inspired by designers’ desire to establish an at-sea, according to a video released by Disney.

“The Disney Wish, before she had a name, her nickname was Enchantment,” Laura Cabo, portfolio creative executive with Imagineering, said in the Disney video. “It was really kind of obvious to us that we should give Disney Cruise Line our own castle on the seas.”

A large chandelier, with touches made to look like the spiral of magic the Fairy Godmother uses to turn Cinderella into a princess, will be in the center of the atrium.

The carpeting there will have icons from the film. Her carriage and glass slipper are worked into the metalwork and light fixtures. Railings will have pumpkins and stained glass in Cinderella’s signature colors.

“It’s the heart of the ship. It sets the theme for everything that the guest will enjoy over the course of their journey,” Cabo said.

Disney Wish is the first of three upcoming Disney Cruise Line ships, which are built at the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany.

Disney plans to reveal more Wish details during a virtual event Thursday.
