When Hollywood Studios recently switched up its FastPass tiers giving Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash equal billing, we knew an epic clash of the attractions would soon be ensuing amongst our family members.

You see, while many of our tribe are adamant Slinky Dog Dashers, there are also quite a few Smugglers Runners in our midst. And now that you can only make a FastPass for one of these top tier attractions in advance, how do you decide?

If you’ve been to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge already but BEFORE Rise of the Resistance opened, you may be thinking “Why do I need a FastPass for Millennium Falcon?”

You see, back in the day, it wasn’t uncommon for standby wait times for the Star Wars simulator ride to be in the 20-30 minute range. But Toy Story Land’s Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster has always had at least an hour-long wait since its opening (and that’s on “low-crowd” days!).

Now that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is fully operational, though, we’ve seen wait times for Millennium Falcon SOAR. They’re now right on par with Slinky Dog Dash, so a FastPass for Millennium Falcon makes a lot more sense now than it did before Rise of the Resistance came online!

That brings us back to the ultimate question — which tier one Hollywood Studios attraction is the best use of your FastPass: Millenium Falcon or Smuggler’s Run? And the answer, in our opinion, is…it depends! In order to make the best decision for yourself and your family, let’s examine the following:

What Type of Rides Do You Prefer?

Millennium Falcon and Slinky Dog Dash are two totally different experiences! Millennium Falcon is a dark, enclosed flight simulator with loud noises, lots of jostling, and some interactive features (yes, YOU get to be either a pilot, gunner, or engineer onboard the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!).

Slinky Dog Dash, however, is an outdoor roller coaster (located in Andy’s backyard!) starring some of your favorite Toy Story friends! Both rides have great theming and are family-friendly, but for folks who don’t like confined spaces or being “shook up,” Slinky Dog Dash might be your best bet.

Vice versa, if members of your wolf pack are afraid of heights or roller coasters (even though Slinky Dog Dash is very tame and not particularly high up, compared to other Disney world coasters) consider opting for Millennium Falcon instead!

Which Attraction Have You Never Ridden Before?

Is there one of these rides that you haven’t experienced yet? Then FastPass it! That way, even if you prefer to use your FastPasses on the other attraction next time, you’ll at least know what you’re missing!

Haven’t ridden either of them? Our advice is to get to the park early and ride the attraction that you didn’t reserve a FastPass for FIRST. Besides, if you’re trying to snag a boarding group for Rise of the Resistance, then you’re probably already planning on being at Hollywood Studios when the park opens (or WAY earlier!).

If you wanna FastPass them both, try planning two days at Hollywood Studios instead of one! They don’t have to be full days if you have the Park hopper ticket option. Just be sure you’re comfortable “spending” your FastPasses in Hollywood Studios for two days, even if you plan to go to another park later. And if you haven’t gotten to check out Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge since it opened, giving yourself some extra time to explore would definitely be a good thing!

Who Are You Traveling With?

Alright, we know we just told you to pick the one you haven’t tried yet, but you know the people you live with better than we do!

If the possibility of not riding one of these attractions would devastate some in your group, it’s probably not worth trying something new and jeopardizing your entire family vacation! Therefore, if you have diehard Star Wars peeps or Toy Story ride-or-dies in your traveling party, give ’em what their hearts desire MOST!

And if your children are big enough to ride by themselves, you can always divide and conquer! You don’t have to be a certain age to ride Millennium Falcon or Slinky Dog Dash, but riders must be at least 38″ tall and guests under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a person 14 years of age or older to get on either attraction!

Slinky Dog Dash Doesn’t Have a Single Rider Queue… But Millennium Falcon Does!

If your party doesn’t mind splitting up, you may want to consider making your FastPasses for Slinky Dog Dash and utilizing Millennium Falcon’s single rider queue.

If you don’t mind riding with strangers, this could be a great way to ride! Just remember, due to the way the jobs are handed out, single riders are more likely to assume the roles of the engineers, although it’s not unheard of for single riders to snag a coveted pilot or gunner seat!

So the choice is ultimately yours! We hope we gave you a few things to consider when making this tough decision!

Of course, we could very well see the Hollywood Studios’ tiers shift again when Rise of the Resistance begins distributing FastPasses and/or when Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway opens on March 4th. Even though deciding between Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash may seem difficult now, we have a feelin’ this is only the beginning of MORE tough choices to come!
