With the Lunar New Year being one of the most widely celebrated holidays in China, Shanghai Disney Resort has some bad news regarding this weekend’s festivities.

Due to the current public health crisis of a coronavirus outbreak in China, Shanghai Disney Resort is joining other public institutions in temporarily closing tomorrow in the interest of the public.

Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, Walt Disney Grand Theatre, and Wishing Star Park are all included in this change. The closure will continue until further notice as the health situation is monitored by Disney officials and the Chinese government.

Unfortunately, this closure comes at a very undue time as tomorrow marks the Lunar New Year and the start of the “Year of Mickey” (technically, the Year of the Rat). Festivities were planned for the weekend and Shanghai Disneyland was expected to see a big draw of people for the holiday. Now, celebrations have been cut short. All guests affected by the closure will be issued refunds for the inconvenience.

The coronavirus has been spreading across China and the number of cases is growing with several confirmed deaths. This has caused many public spaces in China, including the famous Forbidden City, to close up shop until the outbreak is better contained.
