We’re feeling quite fancy this morning as we take a jaunt over to the European Riviera.

Topolino’s Terrace

At least we feel that way because Disney’s Riviera Resort is OPEN today! We’re live from the opening of the NEWEST Disney World Resort hotel and we’re checking out everything there is to see and do over at Riviera.

Of course, that means we’re also stopping by Topolino’s Terrace — Flavors of the Riviera to do a FULL REVIEW of their Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends experience, and you’ll definitely see some familiar faces.

Let’s get our breakfast on!

Atmosphere

Topolino’s Terrace is the Riviera Resort’s signature dining space inspired by the cliffsides of the European Riviera, so you can expect to be chowin’ down in some fancy digs. Of course “Topolino” is the Italian name for Mickey Mouse himself, so we’ll be seeing a lot more of the big boss at this breakfast!

This dining room is located on the roof of the resort with stunning views of the surrounding area. After all, Riviera is pretty tall!

The restaurant is completely focused on the view. The outdoor terrace is expansive with a non-obstructive railing so that you can admire the area around you. And there’s some comfy seating so that you can lounge as you admire.

And, it looks like they’re set up to have an outdoor bar! We’ll be excited to see that in action.

Inside, the design is super focused on the views, too! No matter where your table is, you have an awesome view out of one of the many massive windows that line the perimeter of the restaurant! This makes the indoor terrace feel very open and airy and means that the view is breathtaking for every diner.

Seating is comfy and not overcrowded. We especially love the half booths!

Of course, the space is all decked out for Christmas with pretty garland and a Christmas tree.

The light fixtures are notable, too, with sweeping chandeliers. The main light fixture is particularly unique. I think you either love or hate this one.

Some of the tables have individual chandeliers above them as well. We think they look a little bit like pasta, which is an awesome way to get in the mood for some tasty eats!

Speaking of pasta, check out the display of pasta, cheeses, and wine when you first enter. YUM. Talk about setting the stage for what’s to come.

The table settings themselves are lovely. It’s a very classic and clean look that matches the color scheme of the restaurant.

The cloth napkins come emblazoned with the Topolino’s Terrace logo…

…and the butter knife (our fave part!) looks just like a paintbrush! We’re getting Animator’s Palate vibes!

We were surprised to see that the restaurant had a few items of Riviera merchandise for sale so you can nab a Mickey and friends plush, a Riviera Autograph book, or the Riviera Signature Minnie Ear Headband. You know…while you eat breakfast?! I guess Disney wants to make sure we don’t miss out on some signature merch!

Oddly enough, this merch is actually listed on the menu? We’re always down to check out some new Disney products but they definitely seem a little out of place on the menu at a fancy restaurant.

But alas, this DOES give us a great segue into a seriously amazing part of this whole breakfast…the characters!

Characters

Breakfast here has an added dose of Disney magic because you get to dine with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy dressed in ADORABLE outfits that make them look like artists of the European Riviera.

Mickey is dressed as a painter, complete with stylish beret. Looks like Mickey has been doing some WORK today.

Minnie is wearing her finest poet garb, fresh from writing love poems to Mickey we’re sure…

…Donald looks like he slipped in to say hi while he was midway through his newest sculpture. We can’t wait to see the completed masterpiece! 😉

…Aaaaand Daisy is, of course, the most fabulous ballerina around!

Riviera-Resort-Topolinos-Terrace-Breakfa

Good thing she’s a dancer, too, because, in addition to greeting guests at their tables, the characters dance around the restaurant to some fun European tunes!

We love any opportunity to hang out with Mickey and friends so Topolino’s breakfast makes for a super fun experience. Keep in mind though, character breakfasts are especially coveted dining experiences in Disney World, so if you’re looking to hang with this fab four you’ll want to book early!

But enough about the space, let’s eat!

Eats

Before we even took a look at the menu, we snagged a glass of orange, passion fruit, and guava juice (that’s right, THEY’RE SERVING POG JUICE!!!). Of course, this stuff is delicious.

Then it was time to choose our entree and drinks so we swung open the beautiful and classy menu to take a look.

Riviera-Resort-Topolinos-Terrace-Breakfa

Menu

The breakfast menu is mostly prix fixe, much like many high-end character dining experiences around Disney World.

The table starts with an appetizer of shared pastries…and there are a BUNCH of them. Our hearts were fluttering as we watched these tasty European delights arrive. There were chocolate chip muffins and croissants

…AND the specialty of the pastries is the DELISH Epi Bread, which is a beautiful pull-apart bread that looks just like a wheat stalk.

Complimentary pastries

They are served in a paint-splashed bucket that looks super cute. The pastries come with honey butter, house-made jam, and a chocolate hazelnut mousse that reminded us of Nutella. Yum! Plus, the different spreads look like paints in a palette.

Pastries

Of course, it wouldn’t be signature dining without a whole bevy of beverage choices. We tried a few cocktails and a few nonalcoholic options. After all, there are a lot of drinks to choose from. As cocktails go, we tried the Riviera Bloody Mary and the Floral Bellini.

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Drinks

The Riviera Bloody Mary was delicious! This guy wasn’t too spicy but had a nice kick. Plus, it comes with Crispy Pancetta, Parmesan, and an Olive on top.

Bloody Mary

Now, Bellinis are a special thing here at Topolino’s apparently. You can either get a Classic Bellini, or a Floral Bellini (enhanced with house-made floral ice cubes). We ordered the Floral Bellini with Elderflower, Peach, and Citrus flavors.

Classic Bellini

The flavors were smooth and not too sweet. And the Elderflower-infused ice cube was a great addition! The ice cube brings a nice floral twist to the drink that we didn’t hate. It has a nice well-rounded flavor and stays cold with the ice cube. We’d definitely order this again.

Next up is the entree course, which is your choice between nine different options like the Wild Mushroom Scramble or the Spiced Sausage Hash. We opted for the Quiche Gruyère, the Sour Cream Waffles, and the Wood-fired Butchers Steak.

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Excited to dive into our breakfast selections!

First, we dug into the Quiche Gruyère, with House-made Pancetta, Roasted Potatoes, Field Greens, and Lemon Vinaigrette.

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Quiche Gruyere

This thing was SO tasty! It’s super cheesy (which you know is our jam).

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Quiche Gruyere

It was seasoned just right and went really well with the potatoes and salad. We tend to like our potatoes a little more crispy tbh, but they were very flavorful. We recommend cutting up the tomatoes in the salad so that you get that acidic burst in every bite!

Next up, we tried the Wood-fired Butchers Steak with Polenta, Pomodorracio Tomatoes, Roasted Onions, Wild Mushroom Conserva, and Watercress.

Butcher’s Steak

The steak has a beautiful char from the grill and it’s extremely tender! This is a hearty breakfast option we can definitely get behind.

Butchers Steak

The mushroom conserva and the polenta with onions and tomatoes is amazing, too. Everything goes together so well and there’s some crunchy salt on top to really set off the whole dish.

Finally, we finished our entree course with the Sour Cream Waffles with Roasted Apples, Chantilly, Orange-Maple Syrup, and choice of Smoked Bacon, Ham, Sausage, or Plant-based Sausage. We chose sausage and it was yummy, but nothing special. The REAL star of the dish was the orange-maple syrup. It literally might be our new favorite thing!

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Sour Cream Waffles

The waffles themselves are a super sweet treat, and they’re soft but not mushy. The apples on top are sweet and easy to eat, so cooked just right. AND the chantilly has an almond and orange flavor and is an awesome topping for the dish. If you like a sweeter breakfast, this one’s for you!

Riviera-Resort-Topolinos-Terrace-Breakfa

Sour Cream Waffles

Now, on the nonalcoholic side, we gave the Riviera Resort Blend French Press a shot (How could we not?). This blend was developed by Joffrey’s and it feels super fancy to have the french press brought to your table.

AND, guess what! We found a DFB FOOD HACK with the coffee! Try it with a little bit of that orange-maple syrup stirred in. We know, we know, syrup in coffee?? Trust us, it is so so so good.

Overall

Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends is a fun experience and is a great choice for families looking for a fancier meal option, but not wanting to keep the kids interested during a lengthy fine dining dinner. It’s also a great choice if you’re looking for some seriously gourmet breakfast options!

wdw-riviera-resort-grand-opening-topolin

Topolino’s Terrace

Our first impression of Topolino’s Terrace is that it’s a beautiful space with sweeping views, and it makes for an awesome way to guarantee face time with the ever so popular Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy. Plus, the food is delicious and filling!

But Topolino’s is definitely a pricier option. Breakfast at Topolino’s is $41 for adults and $24 for children 3-9 years old so the prices here are no joke. It’s similarly priced to the expensive Chef Mickey’s in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where you also get to meet Goofy AND have an all-you-care-to-eat meal. Currently the only discount at Topolino’s is for Disney Vacation Club members. So this is more of a splurge than some other character dining options around Disney World.

Plus, breakfast doesn’t come with the added benefit of fireworks viewing from the rooftop, so dinner might be a more budget-busting-worthy experience.

That said, everything we ate was delicious and service was good. Maybe it wouldn’t be an all-the-time choice for us with those prices, but it is a wonderful experience if you happen to be staying at Riviera.

Will we be back to Topolino’s? You bet! Especially because we HAVE to try out the dinner menu tonight! If the character breakfast sounds like something you’d like, you can make reservations up to 180 days in advance online or by calling (407) WDW-DINE.
