We’ve been sampling our way around the globe at this year’s holiday kitchens! Now we’re turning our very full stomachs and attention towards Shi Wasu!

Located in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase, Shi Wasu Holiday Kitchen is a returning festival booth this year celebrating traditional dishes you’ll find in the Land of the Rising Sun!

Did we read that right? A Chirashi Tree Sushi?!? Oh boy! This is gonna be FUN!

Food

This year, we’re seeing a variation of the popular New Year Celebration Soba from last year!

For $7.25 the dish no longer features meat, but still comes with a heaping cup of buckwheat soba noodles in hot dashi broth with vegetable tempura and chopped green onion! While we thought the noodles had a nice texture, our tempura was way soggy and not very flavorful which was kinda a bummer compared to last year’s version which was a winner.

And here’s Shi Wasu’s brand new item — the Chirashi Sushi Tree! It features tuna, salmon, ikura and yellowtail sashimi with vegetables served on a bed of rice, and decorated like a Christmas tree!

But, like, really though — how stinkin’ cute is this little sushi Christmas tree? We can’t stop staring at it! It’s a pretty good size for $6, but the flavors aren’t much of a standout. We love the dish for its looks, but it’s definitely style-over-substance on this little cutie!

Last year’s Green Tea Yule Log has been replaced with a Matcha Creme Brûlée for $5.75. This dessert features creamy green tea custard with a caramelized sugar crust and is topped with mochi, red bean jam, and fresh strawberries! The matcha flavor isn’t very strong which might help folks who don’t like green tea as much enjoy it, while matcha lovers might be a little disappointed. Plus the texture was a little grainy.

Drinks

As for beverages, we’re seeing the return of the Sapporo Draft Beer for $4.25 and the Ichigo Milk Boba for $5.25.

Subbing in for last year’s Cinnamon Apple Cider is the new, inventive Tsubaki Whiskey Sour for $7.75. This twist on a traditional sour features plum wine in addition to the whiskey, cranberry juice, sugar, and lemon –yum! We thought the sour drink had a nice balance to it and would be perfect if you’re lookin’ for something not-to-sweet to go with all those cookies you’ve been munching!
