Disney4me
The mermaid themed dessert trend shows little sign of slowing down at Walt Disney World. We’ve seen many incarnations, including treats at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery and the BoardWalk Bakery, and we can’t forget about the mezMERizing mermaid cupcake we found earlier this year over at Disney’s Art of Animation. It was truly a work of art! But today we are swimming on over to the Seven Seas Lagoon for a new treat over at the Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. Mermaid Tail Dessert This counter service breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot offers cafe-style seating with views of the stunning Grand Floridian marina. But today we aren’t here for the views, we’re here for the new Pineapple Coconut Mermaid Tail. There’s a lot going on with this particular tail. Pineapple Coconut Mermaid Tail It features two solid white chocolate fins, a sugar-encrusted pastry cream horn shell, rainbow colored sprinkle stars, and a small purple decorative shell, all brought together with a pineapple coconut filling. Mermaid Tail At first bite, we found the shell and the custard inside to be…underwhelming. The pastry shell had good consistency, but no buttery flavor; and the custard didn’t stand out, as it wasn’t overwhelmingly either pineapple or coconut. We would have loved a burst of flavor with the custard! It’s not sickly sweet, like other desserts, so we have to give them props for that! Mermaid Tail You could try it out yourself for $5.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. This whale of a tail certainly can’t stand up to some of the other amazing mermaid treats we’ve seen in recent years. On our next visit to Gasparilla Island Grill, we’ll stick to their new (and seriously delicious) Frozen 2 shortbread Cookie, that features a maple cream filling. Frozen 2 Cookie Oh, and by the way, there are TONS of other Frozen 2 treats coming your way! We’re writing up our reviews as we…speak! ;-D Will you be heading to Gasparilla Island Grill for this new treat?
