Say Goodbye to Your Mini Disney Toiletries With THIS New Law Changing Disney Resorts

We all have taken a few room souvenirs home from our stay at a Disney resort (I LOVE the smell of the shampoo it sends me on serious vacay nostalgia). And, although you can get the full-size H2O+ bottles at many of the resort stores and online, sometimes the travel bottles are nifty little guys to keep with you for other trips you may go on.

However, in order to participate in conservation efforts, Disney has only somewhat recently started to stray away from those plastic bottles and towards refillable canisters in hotel rooms. But, a new law in California is about to nudge those efforts along a lot faster.

California Governor Gavin Newsom just announced a law that will ban hotels from providing its guests with plastic shampoo, conditioner, lotion, or soap bottles. The new law, effective in 2023, will mostly impact hotels with more than 50 guests rooms. However, it will also change smaller resorts’ policies with less than 50 guests rooms in 2024. California hotels will definitely want to pay attention because they could be fined $500 for a first offense and $2,000 for any violations after that.

So, what does this mean for your stay at a Disney resort?

Currently, Disney Parks and the Disney Cruise Line have made some major changes by getting rid of plastic bags, opting for paper straws, and changing the MagicBand packaging. While they’re currently reducing plastic usage, the Disney Conservation Fund has still projected to make bigger changes in the resorts over the next few years by reducing in-room plastics by 80%.

And, although Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line have started to use refillable toiletries, they aren’t everywhere just yet. Disneyland, on the other hand, is going to have to get with the picture sooner rather than later with the new law just around the corner.

Refillable Toiletries

If you’re getting ready for a Disney trip, you’ll have to reconsider if you want to be able to take your toiletries home with you. Even if you don’t want to travel with shampoo and conditioner on the way there, it might be a good idea to pack a few empty travel bottles to fill with the H2O+ products on the way back (if you love it as much as we do).
