Disney4me
If you get hungry in Disney World, there are SO many options to choose from. You’ve got quick-service restaurants if you want something quick and easy. You’ve got table service restaurants for a more relaxed experience. You’ve even got upscale and fancy (we’re talking Michelin star dining here, people), if that’s what you’re looking for. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort The thing is, you’ll see certain Disney World restaurants recommended by a lot of folks, but we’re always wanting to let you know about those spots that maybe not everyone has discovered yet. Now, we have some favorite underrated spots, and we just revisited one, Sebastian’s Bistro at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Atmosphere You’ll find Sebastian’s Bistro at the Old Port Royale part of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and yes, this resort is huge, so depending on where you’re staying, you might still have quite a hike to get there. Sebastian’s Bistro So the vibe in Sebastian’s Bistro is Caribbean, but it’s not like in-your-face, over-the-top tropical. The colors are mostly neutrals, creams, and whites with pops of color from the artwork. Inside the restaurant There is plenty of seating available, and when we visited for dinner, there were still a lot of tables available. You’ll find both standard tables and chairs as well as booth seating. The tables are set with colorful dishes that also pop against the more neutral colors of the restaurant. That just gives it an extra element of fun. Table Setup This is a super popular spot for families, so we will warn you it can get a little loud, but not as loud as other dining spots, like Chef Mickey’s, in Disney World. It’s really one of those places that everyone is going to like. We also have to mention the music. Most of it is from albums that were put out as part of the release of The Little Mermaid animated film, and it includes covers of songs by the voice of Sebastian, and it’s honestly so unique that we love it. This isn’t Disney music you can hear just anywhere. Menu This is a restaurant with an all-you-care-to-enjoy menu that is just $39 for adults and $21 for children. That could make it one of the best value restaurants like this in Disney World. The food includes a series of meals, including the Taste of the Caribbean entree, followed by House-made Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding for dessert. You can also order enhancements for your meal. Note that a plant-based meal is also available. Menu You can also find a variety of beverages here, including some non-alcoholic specialties, cocktails, sangria, rum, beer, wine, and more. Drink Menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats Dinner starts with the Buttery House-baked Pull-apart Rolls, which are served with Guava Butter and Caramelized Onion Jam. Buttery Pull-Apart Rolls Unless you’re not a fan of sweet butter or sweet bread, we think it’s hard to dislike this. They’re flaky, fresh, buttery, and everything you want out of bread. It also comes with a Mickey-shaped flaky, crispy cracker that has a sharp cheddar taste to it. We were big fans! For one of the lighter options here, you can grab the The Spice Necklace Salad, which is plant-based! It’s very simple, but has a key lime dressing we can’t get enough of, because it has a great acidic taste with sweet undertones, and the pineapple and pumpkin seeds really bring it all together. The textures and flavors all make this a very light aspect of the meal, which is a welcome reprieve since the rest of it is pretty heavy. The Spice Necklace Salad Then it was time for one of the main events, which was the Taste of the Caribbean Platter, which comes with four choices of entrees all on the platter, and remember, you can order more of whatever you’d like! On here, you’ll find the Baked Fish with Citrus Butter, which we enjoyed — it’s got the right amount of acid, a little bit of sweetness, and is pretty orange forward, but it’s nothing to write home about. The Slow Cooked Pork with Mango Sambal is very good, especially since the pork is shredded, which gives it a very rich flavor. The mango sambal adds a great sweet note, but we do think it could maybe do with just one more flavor! Taste of the Caribbean Platter Also on this platter is the Roasted Chicken with a Tambour Tamarind Barbecue Sauce, and we got both a thigh and a leg. The skin was crispy, even though it was oven-roasted, and the meat was perfectly juicy. The sauce was fantastic to dip it into — it’s bright, tangy, and spicy. It’s easily the strongest flavor of the meal, so if you’re spice-adverse, you may want to stay away. The final meat on this plate is the Chili Rubbed Beef, which was almost like a flank steak. It was mildly fatty, but not overly so, and was very thinly sliced. It’s a crowd pleaser for sure, and the sauce it comes with is very cilantro-heavy, so keep that in mind — we also didn’t feel it needed sauce, so we were okay without it! It’s a solid plate! We also grabbed the Sides Platter to try out. It comes with Cilantro Rice and Beans, and is about 80% rice and 20% beans, which means you can pick the beans out if you’d really like to. Also on the plate are Roasted Plantains that were tender and sweet — they had a beautiful caramel-banana flavor that is a great sweet flavor to counter all the savory items on the plate. Finally, there’s a Roasted Vegetable Medley, which is a great crowd pleaser — they were browned perfectly, so consider us impressed! Sides Platter Then it was time for dessert! The Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding is, in my opinion, the BEST on property! We find it to be superior to the incredible ‘Ohana bread pudding, as well as the one in the Germany Pavilion in EPCOT. It’s a generous serving for your party, and like everything else at this restaurant, you can ask for more! Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding The caramel sauce is superb and tastes house-made — it’s buttery and rich and really takes this dish over the top. The bread pudding is tender with no crusty edges (and we’ve had it 7-8 times over the past two years, we’ve never had crusty edges!), and it’s rich with fantastic pineapple and coconut flavors. The ice cream melts pretty early on since the bread pudding is served warm, and when it blends with the caramel? Yep, we’ll be dreaming about it for a while! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for a cheaper table service meal that’s still great quality You’re a fan of all-you-care-to-enjoy meals You’re staying at Caribbean Beach Resort, or your hotel is on the Skyliner route You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re not staying at the hotel on the Skyliner route/at Caribbean Beach Resort You’re looking for a more upscale meal You’ve got picky eaters in your party Overall We completely think this place is underrated and can’t believe it’s not more popular! Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, it’s relatively easy to get to, especially if you’ve got your own car, since parking for the hotel is very close to the restaurant. Not to mention, there’s a secret tip here — if you time your meal right, you can see the EPCOT fireworks from across the lagoon! Sebastian’s Bistro What really shocks us here is how incredible the price is for a restaurant that you can ask for more of ANYTHING at no additional charge! Seriously, great food, and you can have as much of it as you’d like? That’s a win in our book! We’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond.
