New digital games, social media apps, and streaming services have managed to capture the attention of little ones, but what does this mean for toys like the Slinky Dog or Mr. Potato Head? Enter Disney and Pixar’s newest animal sequel: Toy Story 5. Yep — we’re up to FIVE. There’s a new character coming to the world of Toy Story, and it’s set to be voiced by *drumroll, please*… Howdy! Conan O’Brien! He will play Smartypants in Toy Story 5! Here’s what we know so far about this new casting announcement. This isn’t the first time an iconic comedian has joined the Toy Story franchise. In Toy Story 4, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele played Ducky and Bunny, and Kristen Schaal played Trixie in Toy Story 3. But now, it’s Conan O’Brien’s turn. ©IMDb We don’t know much about his character, Smartypants (like, is he a toy? is he a digital character on an iPad game?), but O’Brien teased, “It’s the best character of them all.” Hm, he might have a bit of a bias, but we can’t all be Woody or Buzz, right? Disney teased that the film will follow the toys as they find their jobs to be harder than ever as they compete with electronics. The film is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, who shared, “Through the experiences of these toys, we’ve learned about loyalty and belonging and friendship, and these characters give a perspective about growing up and navigating life.” Toys must compete with electronics in ‘Toy Story 5’ Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, previously spoke about the new movie as well, explaining that the movie will largely focus on Jessie. According to Variety, he said, “I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” adding, “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear.
