Atmosphere

Frontera Cocina is a very open restaurant with lots of natural light from the windows on virtually every side.

So many windows!

One of our favorite parts of this restaurant is the gorgeous sun mural you’ll find closer to the bar area — it’s stunning!

Beautiful!

You’ll also find lots of artifacts, artwork, and decorations prominent in Mexican culture on shelves around the restaurant, as well as on the walls.

There’s so much to take in!

Just look at these stunning plates! They take our breath away!

Stunning!

But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!

Menu

You’ll find multiple different appetizers like soup, salad, and chips and salsa on the menu. For your entrees, there are plenty to choose from — enchiladas, tacos, carne asada, and so much more.

The Menu

There’s also an entire drink menu to explore too! You’ll find margaritas, cocktails, mocktails, beer, agave flights, mezcal, tequila, wine, and more.

And now, onto the main event — the food!

Eats

For our appetizer, we grabbed the Queso Fundido for $15. This is Queso Chihuahua melted with roasted poblanos and caramelized onions, warm corn tortillas (contains dairy).

Queso Fundido

This was delicious! The Monterey cheese had that sharper bite to it, but the mozzarella also comes through very clearly as well. We loved the mix of those two flavors!

Delicious!

We also adored that the poblanos and onions were clearly fresh and the salsa verde on the side was great to use for dipping if you’re looking for something more basic. However, the red sauce (the tomatillo) certainly had a kick to it! It has more of that girthier chipotle taste and even had the seeds in there, which we enjoyed texture-wise.

The side sauces

The corn tortillas were fantastic and we would absolutely get this again and again. We see why it’s so popular, but we think it’s definitely one to split with more than one person.

We really enjoyed the tortillas too!

We also grabbed the Carne Asada for $58, which is garlic and red chile-marinated Creekstone Natural Black Angus steak, black bean refritos with queso fresco, caramelized plantains with crema and Cotija cheese, tomatillo salsa, warm corn tortillas (contains dairy, pork).

Carne Asada

While we can see why this is priced the way it is from the size, ours did have a little more fat on it than we would have liked, but we could tell how fresh it was since it had so much extra seasoning on top.

It’s a great price for the size!

It really had that charred, grilled taste, and to be honest, with the size of this dish, you really are getting a good bang for your buck. The accompaniments to this dish were some plantains with a sweet sauce over them, as well as black beans with mozzarella cheese on top. We do wish these had tasted a little fresher and weren’t as sticky, BUT they reminded our reporter exactly how her mother-in-law would make them, which was shocking in the best way.

The plaintains

Our reporter also didn’t think she’d ever see a steak with an onion cooked the way her husband and mother-in-law do in Disney World, but here it was! It’s very very authentic and we would absolutely get this again.

We were impressed!

Next was the Creamy Chicken Enchiladas Suiza for $27. This is Just-made corn tortillas, chicken and poblano rajas filling, tomatillo-cream sauce, Queso Chihuahua, sliced red onion, cilantro leaves (contains dairy).

Creamy Chicken Enchiladas Suiza

These were also fantastic! They’ve got a solid layer of melted cheese on top but heads up that this does have a spicier kick to it that will creep up on you, so keep that in mind if you’re spice adverse.

We loved the cheese on top!

This was certainly very shareable, and while it’s an entree, it could easily be split and made into an appetizer since there are three of them. Our server told us this is a very popular dish and we can certainly see why — we’d absolutely get it again!

We’d absolutely get it again!

Finally, for dessert, we grabbed the Chocolate Sugar Skull for $29. This is a Chocolate shell filled with white chocolate-key lime mousse, raspberry compote, vanilla sponge cake soaked with key lime syrup, Graham cracker crumble.

Chocolate Sugar Skull

We really didn’t want to eat this thing because of how gorgeous it is! This is pricey, so we can see it being for more of a special occasion, but it truly did take our breath away with those hand painted details.

Those details!

It was a little harder to crack than we anticipated, so you really do have to put some power behind it. The outer shell is chocolate and inside you’ll find lots of whipped cream and sponge cake that we originally thought was tres leches cake, but we didn’t taste a lot of milk in it.

Time to dig in!

The raspberry preserve here had more of a sour taste to it that we enjoyed, and it was juicier than we expected in the best way. Kids, adults, and anyone who’s looking for an extra special treat will really enjoy this, and we highly reccomend it!

Drinks

To drink, we picked up the Frida for $23. This is made with Casa Dragones blanco tequila, rose petal liqueur, lemon juice, pomegranate cordial, served with a rose petal popcorn salt rim.

Frida

This is a gorgeous drink and the rose petal salt rim gave it a slight rose taste that was delicious. The lemon juice and pomegranate cordial together give it a bit of a pepper taste that was subtle, which we appreciated.

It’s beautiful!

It’s pretty expensive, but we can see why it’s one of the most popular drinks here. It is sneaky though, so heads up. It’s not terribly strong when you first taste it, but that alcohol will sneak up on you!

Nosh or Not

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re looking for authentic Mexican cuisine in Disney World
  • You’re looking for a special date-night meal or meal for a special occasion
  • You adore Mexican food and want lots of options

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You’re looking for a meal on the cheaper side
  • You’re not a fan of Mexican cuisine
  • You’re a pickier eater

Overall

We couldn’t have asked for a better meal here! We loved each and every dish and highly recommend it to all who enjoy Mexican cuisine. In fact, our reporter has now said it’s a place she’ll return to time and time again, because she’s often looking for authentic Mexican food in Orlando, and she’s only ever found a handful.
