  1. Another week, more Disney news! Hey, Mickey! There is so much to keep up with when it comes to all things within the Walt Disney Company! From Disneyland to Disney World, let’s break down the biggest news from this week. There is SO much happening in the Walt Disney Company, it’s almost hard to keep track. There were three major new announcements this week, so let’s stop wasting time and dive right into all things Disney news. Starting over in Disneyland Resort, Disney California Adventure is changing big time! California Adventure in Disneyland One major change? We finally know where the new Coco attraction is going! The brand new attraction will be added over near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier in areas that are currently predominantly backstage. ©Disney In the concept art, you can spot Incredicoaster to the left if that helps you gauge roughly where the new ride will be located. It seems like the ride will be located roughly behind the Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, but we won’t know for sure until Disney confirms more. Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind We’ve known the ride was coming since the August 2024 D23 announcement, but this is the first news we’ve heard since then. The ride will be a boat ride with music playing a major part in the attraction. Construction is expected to begin this Fall. Learn more about the new Coco attraction here! Our next piece of news is a little bittersweet because another new Disney California change is coming, but this one is at a cost. Mike and Sully to the Rescue will be permanently closing in early 2026 to make way for the brand-new Avatar land. Mike & Sully to the Rescue Mike and Sully to the Rescue has been open since 2006 and was a retheme of the original park attraction, Superstar Limo. The area will be completely rethemed into a new Avatar land, which includes a brand-new attraction. ©Disney The new project is still in early development, and Disney confirmed they will share more details at a later date. Disney shared that this land will “draw inspiration from Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming Avatar films to bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way.” So if you’ve seen Pandora in Animal Kingdom, it will be totally different from this new area! ©Disney The land will include a boat-style attraction similar to Pirates of the Caribbean in Shanghai Disney. They said the new attraction will be an “adventure of a lifetime in search of majestic natural wonders that can only be found on Pandora and the beauty – and danger – that come along with the journey. This new and thrilling excursion will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora. This is going to be a dynamic, intense, and emotional experience on a grand scale that we know our guests will love.” ©Disney Construction is expected to start in Fall 2026. Learn more about the Avatar expansion here! Finally, Disney World has our last bit of news this week because we know more about the new Cars area coming to Magic Kingdom! Piston Peak ©Disney The new area will be called Piston Peak, and Disney shared a new map of what can be expected, which you can see above! The new land will also feature a brand new character called Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore! Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore ©Disney He’s inspired by a previous Disney character named Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, who was the park ranger from Disney’s Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck cartoons. Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore will host the new preshow for the family-friendly attraction coming to the area. ©Disney The land will also feature a larger attraction called Rally Race, which we had previously known about. Disney also confirmed that Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will permanently close on July 7th, 2025, to make way for the new attraction. Tom Sawyer Island It’s always bittersweet when we get excited about something new coming, but at the cost of another attraction. Construction will begin in when Tom Sawyer and the Rivers of America closes. Learn more about the Magic Kingdom expansion here! 3. When you go to Disney World daily like we do, you get stuck on quite a few rides over time. Stormtroopers in Rise of the Resistance Disney rides malfunction from time to time — sometimes due to guest behaviors (like hats flying off or people reaching out of ride vehicles) and sometimes due to technical difficulties. Occasionally, we’ll be onboard a ride when it stops and we get the chance to see “behind the curtain.” So today, we’re sharing some of the most interesting ride closure photos we have! Rise of the Resistance Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is arguably one of the most popular attractions in Hollywood Studios. Seriously, people wait in line for HOURS to do this ride because of its incredible storytelling and extremely advanced technology. But when we hopped on the ride, we got the chance to see how one of the effects really works! Onboard the ride After you encounter Kylo Ren “accidentally” during the ride, he begins to chase your ride vehicle through the ship. One of those scenes involves Kylo walking towards you down a hallway with his lightsaber lit up. And during our ride? It stopped working! The special effect! When the ride halted, we could tell that this effect was made by projecting onto a flat piece of material that was shaded darker around the edges. The hand holding the lightsaber extends and retracts from the background material. Pretty cool effect! Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover One that’s a little less surprising is the evacuation process for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. This ride goes along a track above Tomorrowland, and if the ride shuts down, the riders are walked alongside the track until they get to an exit point. PeopleMover evacuation You can see this evacuation when you’re outside in the land, but you may also be able to spot people being escorted off the ride from Star Traders — the gift shop has an upper window that peeks into the ride! From there, they’ll exit through doors and down staircases that drop into Tomorrowland. Test Track It’s currently being renovated into a new version, but back when Test Track was open, we witnessed an evacuation of the ride where people were walked through various ride scenes to the exit. Since this ride has a smooth ramp-like track, it was an easier trek than some others. via Tyler Stickel (@tstick1) on Instagram We’ll be interested to see if the evacuation plan is any different with the new version of the attraction when it opens in EPCOT. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is one of Disney World’s newer attractions, operated with trackless vehicles. When this ride has issues and has to close, the vehicles all stop in their respective rooms and the lights come on. Picture of the evacuation from our reader It’s very interesting to see this ride evacuated because turning the lights on highlights some of the hidden effects in the attraction. It’s also an interesting experience due to the fact that you’re just exiting on a “regular” concrete floor. The tornado room with the lights on was really strange. So there you have our experiences with some of the most bizarre ride evacuations and malfunctions in Disney World! For more behind the scenes, check out this video of ways you can get kicked out of Disney World! Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World updates. 6. With summer almost here you may have plans to visit Disney World in June and we can’t say we blame you! Hollywood Studios Let’s say you’ve been curious about using Disney World’s skip-the-line service on your upcoming trip. In that case, you might already have been considering purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Single Pass to help your days in the parks go smooth! This new paid service allows you to skip the longer standby lines at rides and attraction and use the shorter Lightning Lanes in their place. And, now, we’re bringing you a look at Lightning Lane prices for June 2025. Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass is Disney World’s paid service that allows you to select up to three rides in advance for specific time slots at various rides and attractions up to seven days in advance (if you’re staying at a Disney World hotel) and up to three days if you’re coming for the day or staying somewhere else. Lightning Lane That wasn’t the only help Disney World will give you to deal with the lines. Disney also debuted Lightning Lane Premier Pass last year, a more expensive, souped up version that lets you choose to enter Lightning Lanes at any time. This pricier service costs anywhere from $129-$449 per person per day, depending on park and date you’re choosing to visit. The biggest difference between Multi Pass and Single Pass is that you don’t have to pre-book Lightning Lanes for specific windows of time which gives you even more flexibility throughout your day. 8. If you’re interested in live entertainment, then Disney’s Hollywood Studios may be the BEST park for you! Disney’s Hollywood Studios There are several shows in this park to catch, and planning to see them all can be a scheduling conundrum. That’s why we’re breaking down all the entertainment options — so you know which shows to prioritize and what to expect! Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After We’ve got to start out this list with the park’s two new big shows. Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After opened on May 27th and is located in the Sunset Showcase theater behind Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The show’s story follows Disney Villains trapped in the Magic Mirror. Magic Mirror on the wall… Which villain has been the most misunderstood? Throughout the show, you’ll see Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent present their cases through song and dance. The audience even gets to vote at the end for who they think is most misunderstood! Maleficent This show typically has 15 showtimes per day, starting at 10AM and running on the hour, every hour, with additional shows at 12:30PM, 1:30PM, 2:30PM, 3:30PM, and 4:30PM. It’s about 18 minutes long, so they’re really cranking out those shows in the middle of the day. Captain Hook It has been quite popular since it opened, so you may want to arrive at the theater early for your desired showtime. The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure The other big new show is The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, which also opened on May 27th. This is a revamp of the former show in Animation Courtyard, Voyage of the Little Mermaid. It essentially follows the story of the animated The Little Mermaid film. Ariel in “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” However, there are some new additions in this version of the show compared to its predecessor. It now has the “Kiss the Girl” scene and has enhanced lighting and effects. You’ll get to watch several classic songs from the film performed live on stage, so if you’re a fan of the movie, it’s a can’t-miss. The theatre! As for showtimes, the Disney World website states that this show runs throughout the day from 9:15AM to 7PM. Like the Villains show, this one also runs for 18 minutes. Kiss The Girl scene With all those showtimes, you should be able to fit this into your schedule! For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration Now, on to one of our team’s favorites — For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration (also known as the show with possibly the most absurdly long name ever!). This absolutely hilarious show follows two storytellers from Arendelle as they recount the events of the first Frozen film through song and jokes. Lightning Lane During the show, a large screen will show lyrics to Frozen‘s most popular songs so that the audience can sing along. In between the songs, you’ll get to hear from the storytellers (who have some really funny jokes for kids and adults alike), as well as spot a few of your favorite characters. Elsa even makes it snow inside the theater! For The First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing Along This show lasts about 30 minutes and has showtimes every hour from 9:30AM-6:30PM. That means you have 10 different opportunities to see it in a day. This one can take up to an hour of your time, though, considering you may need to arrive 15 or more minutes early to make it into a show. For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along at Disney’s Hollywood Studios This show also has a Lightning Lane entrance that’s accessible through Multi Pass or Premier Pass. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular When it comes to classic Hollywood Studios entertainment options, one of the first things that people think about is the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. This show walks you through how they pulled off some of the coolest stunts from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lightning Lane You’ll see a variety of fun stunts, from acrobatics to explosions to special effects with props. This show has been around since the first year that Hollywood Studios was open, so it has become a favorite for many families. The Cairo sequence. If you hope to see this show, you’ll need to prioritize it in your schedule because it only has five showtimes, and they’re not as regular as the other shows. You can see it typically at 10:45AM, 12PM, 1:15PM, 3:15PM, and 4:30PM. It lasts about 30 minutes. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular And keep in mind that since this show is outdoors, it can get canceled due to inclement weather. We recommend going to see one of the earlier shows since Florida often has afternoon rainstorms. (Especially in the summer!) Get Animated One option that’s just around for the summer in Disney World is the Get Animated celebration! This offering is part of Disney’s Cool Kid Summer Promotion and features an indoor dance party where Disney Junior Play and Dance is usually located. Inside Outdoors in Animation Courtyard, you can play games, do crafts, meet characters, and more. But inside, you’ll be treated to a dance party with a DJ and Mickey Mouse. While you’re there, you may also spot some Disney Junior pals! Plenty of characters to meet This offering runs from 9AM-5PM daily, so it’s pretty continuous. You can fit it in during any part of your daytime adventures. Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage At the Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard, you’ll find another Hollywood Studios classic, Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage. This is another show that tells the story of the movie it was named after, and you’ll get the chance to see some of your favorite musical numbers performed live. Beauty and the Beast This show is a surprising spectacle for an outdoor theater, with a large cast of dancers and characters like Belle, Gaston, Lumiere, Cogsworth, Ms. Potts, Chip, Beast, and more. Since it’s outdoors, it’s subject to cancelation with inclement weather, even though the seating area is under a cover. Beauty and the Beast — Live on Stage Like Indiana Jones, this show only has five showtimes per day. It typically shows at 11AM, 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM, and 5PM. If you want to sit down and watch, you’ll be committing to a runtime of about 25 minutes. Show entrance Since there are limited performances per day, this is another show you may want to arrive early for. Fantasmic And last but certainly not least, we’ve got to talk about Hollywood Studios’ shining star — Fantasmic! This nighttime theater show is a highlight of the park day for many, and it is perhaps the most popular entertainment offering the park has. Fantasmic! Why is it so popular? This show has it ALL. Water projections, live actors, Disney Princesses, Disney Villains, Mickey Mouse saving the day, and plenty of cool floats. It’s filled with iconic Disney music and a fun storyline about the power of imagination. Fantasmic! Its runtime is about 30 minutes and it typically has two showtimes per evening, though the times will vary depending on how late Hollywood Studios is open. Usually, one show is an hour before park close, and the second show will be 30 minutes AFTER park close. Fantasmic! This is definitely one you’ll need to show up early for — the theater often fills up several minutes before the early show during busy park days. If you want to see all these shows in Hollywood Studios, you’ll have to schedule your day very carefully! You absolutely CAN see all the entertainment options in the park, but you’ll want to double-check showtimes before your visit, and you may need to sacrifice some rides along the way. 10. So we’ve been a big ball of emotions this week because we had to say goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which closed to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land. The last day of Muppet*Vision 3D We wished farewell to Mama Melrose’s in May, and then we had to watch Muppet*Vision 3D one last time and see the last person served at PizzeRizzo. Now, the construction walls are up, and the Muppets are gone. The good news, though, is that they’re not gone forever; they’ll be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Now, we have an idea of when that might happen. Disney recently revealed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will officially close in 2026. (Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will remain open through all of 2025, so that’s good news for you, Aerosmith fans!) Then, the ride will be given a new Muppets theme. However, Disney also gave us an idea of when the new ride with the Muppets will open, and the opening timeline is 2026. So Disney is hoping to have the work done by the end of the year, it seems. ©Disney If we had to guess WHEN in 2026 the Muppets Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will open, we’d probably guess it would be closer to the end of the year because these kind of ride changes take a while. So that means we’ll just have to do without any Muppets at Disney World (save for maybe some appearances at this year’s Jollywood Nights) for over a year. So we just have to hold on a little bit longer and our beloved Muppets will return. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios Disney said that the Muppets will be teaming up with some of “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.” When it opens, it will be the first Disney ride (Muppet*Vision 3D was a show) to feature the Muppets and Disney teased “laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure.” Oh, and don’t worry — there will be plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster In the meantime, get ready for Muppets Courtyard to be transformed into the first ever Monsters, Inc. land that will include another first for Disney: its first suspended roller coaster. There’s no official opening timeline for this land just yet. Monsters, Inc. coaster model Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 11. If you are a frequent reader of DFB, you might know how seriously we take hydrating at Disney World — we kind of talk about it a lot! Owala Water Bottle It’s important to drink water between the heat and the miles of walking you do at the Disney parks. That’s why Owala is one of our favorite water bottles to bring to the parks to help us stay hydrated. If you’re a fan of Owalas, too, you’re in good company! Now, we have found two products that will make your life even easier. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. View on Amazon This Owala Bottle Brush Set is Essential! ©Amazon It can be a pain to try to clean your Owala bottles. With the Bottle brush set, it becomes easier! 13. Animal Kingdom is in the midst of a pretty big refurbishment, and while we’re looking forward to what’s on the way, it does mean that things are a little hectic right now. Animal Kingdom construction There are already some pretty limited attractions in this park to begin with, and as it currently stands, TWO of them are closed! While one should be reopened with its new inhabitant later this year (or early 2026), we’ve still gotta wait a while on the other project, and before it opens, we’ll likely see TWO more closures. So, what’s going on? Dinoland USA officially began its closure to become Tropical Americas and Pueblo Esperanza in January 2025. Chester & Hester’s DinoRama and Triceratop Spin closed on January 13th, making January 12th the final day Dinoland was in tact as a whole. Once this first closure took place, walls went up, and construction began on the new land. We know that the new land, which will feature attractions and theming from Encanto and Indiana Jones, will have three attractions — one that’s located close to where Chester & Hester’s DinoRama was and will be inspired by the Casita from Encanto, a new carousel seemingly where The Boneyard is currently (or around that area), and Dinosaur will become a new Indiana Jones attraction. ©Disney || Tropical Americas Land coming to Animal Kingdom So with this first closure, it appears Disney may be working on creating space for this new land, more specifically, the Encanto section, if they stick to their concept art. As it currently stands, we know that Dinosaur and The Boneyard will be open through 2025 (with a closure then very likely in early 2026), but what does that mean for Restaurantosaurus and Dino-Bite Snacks? Pueblo Esperanza Market Concept Art ©Disney Right now, no official closing date or timeline has been announced for these attractions, but we feel they’ll hit either in late 2025 or right around the same time the rest of the land closes in 2026. When we hear about this timeline for sure, we’ll let you know ASAP! Pueblo Esperanza Carousel Concept Art ©Disney Not to mention, this isn’t the only construction going on in the park. It’s Tough To Be A Bug recently closed in the Tree of Life Theater to make way for a new 4D show currently on track to arrive in the park in late 2025 or early 2026. Zootopia: Better Zoogether will feature some of your favorite characters from the film franchise, and we wouldn’t be shocked if its opening is timed around the new film landing in theaters on November 26th, 2025. ©Disney We’ll be here keeping up with all the latest Disney World news and updates to help you plan your trip, so stay tuned to DFB! 14. Yesterday was a sad day for Muppets fans all around, as we officially said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Muppets Courtyard in Hollywood Studios PizzeRizzo and Muppet*Vision 3D were the final two areas to close in the Grand Avenue section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we knew we needed to head back first thing this morning to see what the area looks like now. Let’s just say, it truly is the end of an era. Our first stop of the day was for a map at the front of the park, and sure enough, Disney has already changed its map to reflect the closure. Now, you see Grand Avenue listed, but there is no Muppets Courtyard listed beyond it — it’s all just greenery. It’s gone from the map! Then we headed back to see the damage for ourselves, and our hearts sank, just as we expected them to. We knew it was coming, but nothing prepared us for seeing the land blocked off by shrubs! Blocked off! While you can currently still see inside the courtyard pretty well, we have a feeling this might change soon. We don’t think Disney will want to show us everything they’re working on, so we expect to see larger walls come up soon, maybe some walls that share the concept art of the new land. Larger walls might be here soon We could see the beginning of what looked like some new construction yesterday towards the back of the land, so it seems like Disney is already planning to get started on the project. Stroller storage backstage These new shrubs aren’t the first to block off the Muppets Courtyard. We spotted other construction walls earlier this year, as walls were installed around Mama Melrose’s (which closed a few weeks ago), so the land was already practically halfway under construction. While we’re sad to see this land go, we’re thrilled we’re not losing the Muppets forever, and their new home will be over at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026! ©Disney This area will now undergo construction to be turned into the new Monsters, INC. Land, Disney announced in 2024. It’ll be home to new dining locations (like Harryhausen’s, if the concept art is anything to go by!), merchandise stands, and Disney’s first suspended coaster that will show us all what it’s like to soar above Monsters, INC., like one of the doors in the film! ©Disney Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 15. If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been spending a lot of time at Universal Orlando lately (but, really, who hasn’t?). Universal Studios Florida The opening of Epic Universe has given us five new lands to obsess over, after all, but that doesn’t mean we’re not keeping an eye on other Universal Orlando parks, too. So you can imagine our surprise when we discovered that a classic Universal Orlando ride, one beloved by many, will be temporarily closing soon. Yes, if you want to go on a grand adventure with the E.T. Adventure Ride, you’ll need to visit Universal Studios Florida TODAY (June 8th) because the ride will be closing for refurbishment tomorrow. According to the Universal Orlando calendar, the E.T. Adventure Ride will close on June 9th, but it will reopen on June 13th, so the closure is a short one. So if you’re visiting during that time, you might have to miss out on the ride. ©Universal You’ll also want to keep another permanent closure in mind at Universal Studios Florida. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will close on August 18th, 2025, to “make way for a new experience.” Universal hasn’t shared what that new experience might be (all we have so far is a permit for new construction in that area), so stay tuned for more details. Hollywood Rip Ride and Rockit In the meantime, if you’re looking for more details about Epic Universe, check out our guide here. And stay tuned to DFB for more.
