  2. A Walt Disney World holiday production and a former UCF professor and Disney executive were among the recipients of Brass Ring Awards, honors presented by IAAPA. “What’s This? Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Singalong,” part of the Disney Jollywood Nights event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, was named most creative winter holiday production. The show features music and characters from the 1993 film directed by Burton. One of three Inspiration Awards was given posthumously to Duncan Dickson, who was a professor in the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida for more than 20 years and the director of casting at Walt Disney World for almost 20 years before that. Dickson died in 2024. Those were the only Orlando-oriented winners in the global competition, which salutes excellence in live entertainment, food and beverage, marketing, human resources, sustainability games and merchandise within the attractions industry. Winners were announced during the 2025 IAAPA Honors event at Europa-Park in Rust, Germany. Universal Studios Hollywood won for most creative Halloween production with “The Purge: Dangerous Waters,” which was staged during the theme park’s Halloween Horror Nights event, and Universal Beijing Resort was honored for best creative atmosphere production with “Universal’s Half Time Show.” Winning in three categories were Europa-Park for its “20 Jahre Colosseo” (most creative spectacular), best health and wellness program and best innovation in training; and Morey’s Piers and Water Parks of New Jersey for customized game prize, visual merchandise display and custom retail souvenir for Curley’s Fries Dog Toys. Vancouver Aquarium was honored for best new F&B special event (called Fish & Sips) and for best new menu item (the Megalodon Burger). The awards are organized by the Orlando-based International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. A complete list of winners is posted at IAAPA.org. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. 4. Some groundbreaking research is taking flight at the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival to protect one of the most beloved insect species, the North American monarch butterfly. These colorful insects are wearing teeny, tiny baby backpacks! Well, sort of. These radio telemetry tags, or “backpacks” as our Conservation Team calls them, are roughly the same size as a tiny grain of rice! “They use that same radio frequency, just like our phones,” said Morgan, Disney’s Conservation Programs Manager and one of the lead researchers focused on the monarch butterfly. “It’s the same type of tech that has been used for a bunch of different animals. It’s just now for the first time, small enough to use on teeny, tiny, little insects.” But what exactly is our Conservation Team studying? Monarch caterpillars’ favorite food, milkweed! The backpacks allow our conservationists to track the monarchs’ movement and preference for their favorite food so we can learn more about their taste for different types of milkweeds. What’s The Difference? A major threat to the monarch butterfly species is their increasing exposure to a parasite commonly known as OE, which monarch butterflies can be exposed to from eating tropical milkweed. While native milkweed dies back in the winter, tropical milkweed does not. So, when monarch butterfly larvae hatch on the tropical milkweed leaves, they ingest high levels of leftover OE that has built up over time. OE negatively impacts almost every aspect of butterfly life, and research estimates that about 80% of Florida monarchs have the disease. Disney Conservation Director Dr. Zak is the Program Lead for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Saving Animals From Extinction (SAFE) Program for the monarch butterfly, which has been adopted by over 100 other AZA-accredited facilities nationwide. The SAFE program for monarch butterflies seeks to recover and sustain monarch populations by fostering healthy breeding and migratory environments and provide them with safe places to be dormant for the winter. Dr. Zak’s guidance and direction is just another example of Disney being a leader and trailblazer in species conservation and working hand in hand with the AZA. “Disney is really a major player when it comes to the impact we can have on wildlife through our science and our subject-matter expertise that we have by being part of the AZA community,” said Dr. Zak. Dr. Zak’s team intends to share the knowledge gained from this research with other partner AZA facilities so they too can provide the best habitats for monarch butterflies. Where To See This Research? Perhaps the best part of this cutting-edge research is the fact that guests can see it for themselves at the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival. Guests can view the process every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. outside Butterfly Landing, located near Journey Into Imagination With Figment in World Celebration. Keep a sharp eye out to see if you can spot the baby backpacks on these beautiful monarchs! For the latest updates on the monarch butterfly and all the animals at Walt Disney World Resort, follow Dr. Mark Penning on Instagram and Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Facebook page. 5. Everyone goes to Disney World to get great sleep, right? An empty Magic Kingdom during After Hours Okay, so maybe that’s not entirely true…but that still doesn’t mean folks can’t get a good nap in from time to time at the Disney Parks. While nap spots at the park are never truly permanent, there are some spots that are especially reliable for seriel nappers! In fact, we’re sharing some of our favorite spots with YOU! Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park in the world, and, as such, there are plenty of great spots for pro cat nappers! Cinderella Castle The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is a fan-favorite when it comes to taking a nap. This underrated attraction is incredible to experience when you’re wide awake, but we can’t blame anyone who wants to take a nap while this relaxing ride takes you on a calm journey around and through Tomorrowland. PeopleMover Many people have strong opinions about The Hall of Presidents, but our strongest opinion is that it’s a top-notch spot to knock out for a bit. This attraction is indoor, air-conditioned, and not really packed with anything exciting enough to wake you up from a deep slumber. When it comes to resting, few places are better. The Hall of Presidents Another indoor show that’s air-conditioned and incredibly calm is Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland. Sure, you do rotate between each scene and “There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” is a catchy jingle that could wake you up due to a subconscious need to sing along, but there’s no denying that this peaceful and reassuring attraction is a great place to catch some Zs. Carousel of Progress The Charging Station near Storybook Circus is not only a great way to save your phone’s battery, but also rest up while you wait for your phone to charge up! Provide your own charging cord, plug in, put your feet up, and relax! Did you know this was in Magic Kingdom? We’re finally leaving Magic Kingdom and heading over to EPCOT for our next pick! The American Adventure in World Showcase features 35 Audio-Animatronics figures, digital rear-projection images on a 72-foot screen, and patriotic songs. If history’s not your thing, this attraction is PERFECT, as you’ll get an opportunity to close your eyes and tune out the chaos of a theme park for a bit. American Adventure Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie is really cute and endearing. The show celebrates Mickey and Minnie’s favorite vacation memories and mixes in clips from fan-favorites like Panda-monium, Couples Sweaters, Potatoland, Croissant de Triomphe, Entombed, Dumb Luck, Al Rojo Vivo, Yodelburg, and Outback at Ya!. It’s also in an air-conditioned theater, making it a great place to snooze. Vacation Fun Finally, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Na’vi River Journey in Pandora is as peaceful as it gets. Not quite a thrill ride, this boat attraction takes you into the world of Avatar with vibrant colors, screen effects, and a really cool animatronic. There’s debate among Disney fans as to whether this ride is worth the wait or not, but if the goal is to get a great nap in, then the answer is a definitive YES! Be sure to follow official costume guidelines and get BOOtiful costume tips from planDisney. Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade There was a time before sparking shovels incited a bone-chilling response, and then you watched Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade. In this whimsical production, Mickey, Minnie and their friends have donned cute costumes to lead a parade of waltzing ghosts, Disney Princesses and treacherous villains. Guests can expect to see rare characters like Pain & Panic from Disney’s “Hercules,” and Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph.” In 2025, the Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade will again take place at 8:15 PM to allow plenty of time for little ones to enjoy the celebration. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular It’s been three hundred years, right down to the day … or it seems that long since we’ve seen the Sanderson Sisters take the stage. This fan-favorite show is both hilarious and bone-chilling as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary try their haphazard best to cast a spell. It turns out that they need a little help from their friends, who happen to be some of the most nefarious Disney Villains, including the likes of Hades, Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Dr. Facilier and The Evil Queen. Guests will help add ingredients to the cauldron with lots of clapping and singing along. Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular As the party creeps closer to the witching hour, guests are invited to a spooky story time with the Pumpkin King himself, Jack Skellington, who has transformed Cinderella Castle into a haunted house. Watch as Zero leads Mickey and Friends inside, where spiderwebs, skeletons and Grim Grinning Ghosts await. Dazzling projections will transform the castle into a spooky fantasy while the sky comes alive with fireworks. Get ready for towering encounters with Ursula, The Queen of Hearts, and Oogie Boogie. Will Mickey and Friends make it out of Jack’s haunted house this time? Stay Tuned: Food, New Merch, and Lively Cadavers Once again, a few of your favorite rides are getting a grim overlay. Expect spellbinding transformations with special lighting and music. Check back to see which attractions are getting the Halloween treatment. Speaking of scream-worthy experiences, get ready to groove at a new dance party with the music and moves of “Zombies 4” and more “Zombies” fan favorites. And a little spider told us that the Cadaver Dans will be back again this year to sing in soulful harmony. In addition to festive candy apples and popcorn guests can always find in the park, our chefs are plotting and planning a new menu of specialty Halloween food and drink for even the most frightening of appetites. Our upcoming Foodie Guide will have all the ghoulish details. Exclusive party merch will also be available for purchase at Magic Kingdom to commemorate your not-so-scary night of macabre memories. 13. Magic Kingdom is full of dozens of quick service and table service restaurants that may be perfect for you and your travel party on vacation, but we’ll be honest and say that this park isn’t commonly known for its outstanding dining options. Plaza Restaurant One of the classic Magic Kingdom table service spots is located on Main Street, U.S.A., right near Cinderella Castle, called The Plaza Restaurant. This spot is home to some classic American eats, and while it isn’t often high up on our list of favorites, it’s often a solid meal we don’t dislike. But is this new dessert addition a reason to book a reservation here? We found out! Over at The Plaza Restaurant, you can find the new S’mores Cake for $10. This is a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, toasted graham cracker crumbs, and toasted marshmallow mousse. S’mores Cake We had MULTIPLE waiters stop by our table to ask us how we were enjoying the cake, or telling us it was one of their favorites! We weren’t sure if it was because the cake was new, or because they saw us taking so many photos and videos for our coverage, but regardless, it was something we’d never had happen before. It’s a popular little cake! It’s pretty massive! This thing is rich and filling, but while the cake is moist and dense enough to feel fudgy, it’s not as dense as, say, a pound cake, which was a perk in our eyes. The chocolate ganache is super creamy and fudgy, and the marshmallow fluff is sticky, fluffy, and slightly toasted for a wonderful flavor. The marshmallows on top were freeze-dried, which we really enjoyed, as they added a bit of crunch while still tasting like sweet marshmallows. The graham cracker crumbs were crispy, although we wish there were a bit more to really bring that s’mores flavor to life. We really enjoyed it! Overall, this is definitely a delicious dessert, and you could easily share it as it is rich and chocolatey. It highlights the chocolate side of a s’more more than the other flavors, but the marshmallow toppings help you see the vision. We mostly just missed a good showing for the graham cracker! Would we come all the way here just for this dessert? If we were a MAJOR chocolate fan, perhaps, but otherwise, we’ll save it for the special occasions where we dine here. More Recent Reviews! 14. You know how they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Disney’s Hollywood Studios Well, when you’re in Disney World, breakfast isn’t always a priority (unless, of course, you’re having a breakfast with characters — which is almost ALWAYS worth it). You can grab some quick things here and there, or visit Starbucks for some caffeine and a grab ‘n’ go breakfast sandwich, but what if you’re craving something a bit more…MORE. Well, we found a satisfying breakfast in Disney’s Hollywood Studios that’s the perfect way to start your day. So we’re heading over to Toy Story Land to Woody’s Lunch Box, which is a popular quick service dining spot in Hollywood Studios for a reason. But instead of waiting for lunch to have our Totchos, we’re getting something for breakfast. Meet the Breakfast Bowl, which is made with a “hearty portion” of Potato Barrels smothered in Smoked Brisket Country Gravy, Scrambled Eggs, and a sprinkling of Green Onions. Um… YES, PLEASE! Breakfast Bowl Okay, for starters, this is a breakfast that includes all the best parts of breakfast, so it’s a solid choice because you’re getting all the good breakfast foods in one bowl. It’s also easy to eat if you’re walking or standing in line because you can just grab the bowl and go stand in that long Slinky Dog Dash line and enjoy your breakfast while waiting. So you can grab this breakfast and just keep on going so you don’t lose valuable park time. The perfect breakfast We will mention that it’s also a pretty good size, so you could split it if you’re not able to eat the whole thing by yourself or you prefer a smaller breakfast. But what’s not to love? Potatoes, eggs, brisket, AND gravy? Oh, yeah! Stay tuned to DFB for more! WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! 15. When you start planning a Disney trip, whether that be for Disney World or Disneyland, you probably are looking EVERYWHERE you can for a good discount. Sleeping Beauty Castle for the 70th Anniversary Celebration For members of warehouse clubs like Costco, though, those discounts can be pretty easy to find if you book your vacation through those stores. Well, if you’re planning a trip to Disneyland right now, you might just discover that you can no longer get a Disneyland offer through Costco. Yep, that offer is GONE. If you visit the Costco Travel website and look for the page where you can usually book a Disneyland trip through the site, you’ll see the following message: “Costco Travel is not accepting new reservations to the Disneyland Resort.” Yep, you can’t book any Disneyland reservations through Costco Travel right now. ©Costco However, if you’re booking other Disney vacations, like Disney World, Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii, or Disney Cruise Line, you can still book vacations through the site if you’re a Costco member. So this only seems to apply to Disneyland for now. California Adventure We’re not sure why Costco is no longer offering Disneyland vacations, but we checked some other membership programs and noticed that Disneyland discounts are still available. That includes both AARP and AAA, so you can, at least, save some $$$ on Disneyland tickets through those sites. Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 16. Well, it’s that time of the year again… ©NBC Yep, it’s spring, which means most of us are loading up on allergy medication and holding our breaths to see if our favorite TV shows will make the cut for the fall season. This is when we start learning about a TON of TV show cancelations, including streaming cancelations, and well, we just learned that NBC has given THREE of its shows the axe. First up, Variety reports that the series Found, has been canceled after two seasons. The series, which debuted in 2023, stars Shanola Hampton, as well as Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta and Karan Oberoi. The series follows Gabi Mosely (Hampton) who was once a victim of kidnapping and, in turn, kidnapped the man who had snatched her. Now he’s on the loose. ©NBC However, all might not be lost for Found (see what we did there?). It’s producer, WBTV, has plans to shop it around to other outlets. So keep an eye out because season 3 of Found might just be, well, FOUND. NBC didn’t stop there, though. Variety also reports that Night Court has been canceled after three seasons. The show was a follow-up to the popular 1980s series Night Court, which ran for nine seasons. The series starred Melissa Rauch and included original cast member John Laroquette, along with Wendie Malick, Lacretta, and Nyambi Nyambi. ©NBC Rauch starred on the series as the daughter of the late Judge Harry Stone as she takes on the challenging duty of judging the night shift at a Manhattan courtroom. WBTV also has plans to shop this series to other outlets. Its season one ratings were strong, but began to decline with season two. Finally, Suits LA has been canceled by NBC after just one season, according to Variety. The show was a spin-off of the highly popular Suits, but the spin-off suffered from bad reviews and poor ratings. The show followed Ted Black (Stephen Amell), a former federal New York prosecutor looking to reinvent himself in Los Angeles. ©NBC Stay tuned to DFB for more. 17. Figuring out what to eat on your Disney World vacation can be overwhelming, to say the least. Don’t worry — that’s why we’re here! We try all the restaurants and snacks so you have the best trip possible. Animal Kingdom Lodge We headed to Jiko — The Cooking Place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Come with us for a full review to see if you should add this to your next Disney World trip. Atmosphere While we love the convenience of heading to this restaurant when staying at the resort, everyone coming to Disney World is welcome here. Jiko is what Disney calls “signature dining,” which really means fine dining. Jiko We find ourselves heading here for special occasions, incredible date nights, or when we just want to treat ourselves. Reservations are recommended, but depending on the day, they might have some walk-up availability. Inside They serve dinner from 5 PM to 9:30 PM, and heading here after a long day in the parks is a great way to relax and unwind. Disney describes Jiko as “vibrant spices, crackling wood-burning ovens, and boutique South African wines transport you to the heart of Africa.” Grab a seat That puts us in the mood for dinner, so let’s see what’s on the menu! Menu From appetizers, entrees, and desserts, Jiko is going to take you on a journey of African flavors with gorgeous presentation. While African flavors might be unfamiliar to some, when you read over the menu, you’ll likely find that you know most of the words, and the servers are usually very knowledgeable about the dishes. Make sure to look up! In addition to the food, Jiko also serves specialty loose-leaf teas, which are fun add-ons to your meal, as well as a large pot of Kenyan Press Pot Coffee. A kid’s menu includes items like Grilled Chicken Breast, shrimp, steak, Macaroni & Cheese, and more. After finishing your meal, you can also order after-dinner drinks and dessert wines to finish a spectacular meal. The menu After reading the menu, we’re hungry, so let’s eat! Eats We started with the Braai’d Wild Boar Tenderloin for $19 for our appetizer. Braaid Wild Boar Tenderloin This starter is made with creamy pap, tomato chakalaka, and herb-smoked oil. Let’s start off by saying we were scraping off every little bit on the plate, and if no one was looking, we probably would have licked it clean. Delicious! The pap was a great level of creamy and was so buttery. The salt mixed through paired with the butter, and we could have eaten a whole bowl of this. The tenderloin was cooked medium rare and had a warm pink center. They were thinly sliced and had about three or four medallions on the plate. What impressed us the most was how filling this appetizer was! If you were looking for a cheaper or quicker meal, you could order this appetizer with a drink and feel like you still had a filling dinner. We wish we could lick the plate! With our meal, we were also served bread, which was called giraffe bread, and yes, it’s as fun as you would think. Bread Service The top of the bread had a crackling like the pattern on a giraffe and was served with creamy butter and dark sea salt. Not only did we enjoy the combination of the salt, butter, and bread, but the bread service matched the rest of our meal, which we really appreciated. We loved it! Then we had the From the Oak Grill for $62. From the Oak Grill Filet Our first entree was made with your choice of bone marrow-crusted Filet Mignon or Braai New York strip, four cheese macaroni, seasonal vegetables, and topped with a chocolate-red wine demi-glace. We chose the filet and ordered medium rare, and we knew that was the right choice once we saw that gorgeous pink center. Yum! Most of the flavor came from that heavy demi-glace, which took the place of a steak sauce. The bone marrow crust didn’t bring in too much flavor, but added a different texture to the dish and was easy to cut into. It came with the four-cheese mac and cheese that had a toasted parmesan layer on top. While this probably won’t be the world’s best mac and cheese, we loved how it paired with the steak to combat some of the beef’s savory elements. Pink inside For another entree, we had the Moroccan-spiced Lamb Shank for $51. Lamb Shank This dish consisted of preserved lemon potatoes, date chutney, peas, and minted lamb demi-glace. When we put our fork in, the lamb completely fell apart due to how tender it was! The Moroccan spices and oil towards the bottom combined it all. So good! We would have loved a little bit more salt in the lemon potatoes on the bottom, but when we got the potatoes, lamb, and sauce onto our forks, the combination was lovely. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb, especially well-cooked lamb, you have to try this dish. Falls apart! As an enhancement, or additional side, we had the Bobotie Mac & Cheese for $17. Bobotie Mac and Cheese Made with four cheeses, spiced beef, almonds, raisins, Kachumbari, and red wine reduction, this isn’t your typical mac and cheese! There are fresh almonds inside that provide a bit of crunch and chew, and small chunks of ground beef are inside. A big portion! Combining with the African spices and the diced tomatoes, it provides a filling side dish you can share with the table. If you love Boma, another restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge, you can also get the Bobotie Mac & Cheese there! Diving in We couldn’t leave without trying dessert! We had the Malva Pudding for $14. So pretty! The dessert was an amarula-infused Malva cake, caramel-sea salt gelato, Kataifi, Kanu Tuile, and a Cabernet Gelee. Can we talk about this stunning presentation? As if our meal couldn’t get any better, this truly blew our minds. The little bird on top is a shortbread cookie that brings a bit of crunch to the dish, and the Malva cake reminded us of a fig or apricot pudding that is dense and rich. The cake is soaked in South African liquor similar to Baileys, but so much lighter. We will be ordering this dessert again and again because of the incredible flavors all together, and it was a perfect way to round off our meal. Incredible Drinks When looking over the menu, we knew we had to try one of their specialty loose-leaf teas, so we tried the Shanghai Rose for $9.75. Shanghai Rose Tea This tea is made of fragrant red rose petals and the sweet, sultry flavor of seductive lychee in a rose petal black tea. The tea was light but still had a more prominent flavor than other teas around Disney World. The rose is more, well, on the nose, and provides a darker and richer flavor throughout each sip. While we really enjoyed it, we were slightly disappointed with the size compared to the price. We could only get about a cup and a half, which makes it more per person, instead of something you could share for the table. The pot If you’re someone who likes to try different teas when you travel, especially those of different cultures, we highly recommend ordering a cup and seeing if you find your new favorite. Sides Nosh or Not You’ll want to visit Jiko if… You want a nice, sit-down meal with gorgeous presentations and bold flavors You like trying different styles of cuisine You love filling meals in a relaxing setting You might want to skip this restaurant if… You prefer more traditional flavors You want a faster and less expensive meal You don’t want to go through the effort of getting to Animal Kingdom Lodge Our meal! Overall Jiko is a restaurant where we find ourselves time and time again, and we are pleased with our meals every time. This meal had filling and rich flavors that made us go back for another bite every time. It’s a true savory meal, but we loved ending it with our gorgeous dessert that we’ll be thinking about for weeks. Overall, we love Jiko for special occasion meals because we always feel happy after our dinner! We’re going to keep trying all the restaurants around Disney World so we can give you all the details so you can plan the best Disney vacation EVER! 20. There are so many new films coming out this summer that we’re planning to go see in theaters, and with them comes TONS of merchandise. ©IMDb We’re always on the lookout for new popcorn buckets (both in our favorite theme parks AND outside, because they’re not limited to just theme parks!), and we are in AWE of this new one for the new Mission: Impossible film. It’s not like any bucket we’ve ever seen before! The keys are located inside the top of the bucket, and then it’s up to you to put the keys together to actually open the bucket to get to the delicious popcorn. We think it’s so fun, but just imagine trying to do it in the dark at the movie theater if it accidentally closes while you’re watching! Now THAT is mission: impossible! ©IMDb If you’re interested in seeing the film and grabbing the popcorn bucket, we suggest buying a ticket for one of the first days of the theatrical run. We have a feeling these may be so popular that they sell out quickly. They also may not be available at every Regal location, so you may want to call your theater ahead of time if grabbing the bucket is most important to you. ©IMDb Looking for more recent movie news? 21. Well, it’s the end of an era. We’ve started to say our long goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Muppets Courtyard The area will be closing to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land, and although we’re excited about the new land, we’re sad to see this Muppets-themed part of the park go. Today, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in Muppets Courtyard has permanently closed, and it’s already looking a little different. Let’s take a look. Now that Mama Melrose’s has officially closed, we noticed that the windows of the restaurant have been blacked out, which is what usually happens when a store or restaurant closes in Disney World. That’s probably to keep any prying eyes from seeing anything going on inside, although we aren’t yet hearing signs of construction. Permanently closed Here’s a closer look at the windows. Blacked out windows The menu board outside the restaurant has also been covered up, although you can still see “Lunch” and “Dinner” on it. But all menu items are gone. No more menu There aren’t any construction walls up around the restaurant, and these are the only things we can see on the exterior of the restaurant. Now, don’t get us wrong, we haven’t always been kind to Mama Melrose’s (okay, so we called it Disney’s version of Olive Garden one time), but it’s still a sign of the change that’s about to happen to Muppets Courtyard. We also recently spotted a permit for the demolition of a store in the area, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 7th, and the rest of the courtyard will close on June 8th — and the construction walls will be going up. PizzeRizzo Although Monstropolis will be replacing Muppets Courtyard, the Muppets will be returning to Hollywood Studios when they take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — as of yet, Disney has not yet revealed when that project might begin. 22. We are reminding you that this is the most underrated burger in Disney World, and you need to go here! Steakhouse 71 Burger There are several places at Disney World where you can grab a good burger. You might know that we love the Stack Burger from Steakhouse 71. But we have to talk more about this other burger that is such a close runner for our favorite burger at Disney. The Wayfinder Burger at Wailulu Bar and Grill is very good. It’s so good that it definitely rivals our beloved Steakhouse 71 burger. The Wayfinder Burger is made with two pressed patties, American cheese, onion jam, and Volcano Sauce on a sweet bun, served with your choice of mac salad or sweet potato fries. Wayfinder Burger From the moment we tried this burger, we knew the Stack Burger was in trouble. The beef has that made-from-scratch flavor. The Volcano Sauce adds a slight kick and pairs beautifully with the slightly sweet caramelized onion jam. Several of Disney’s quick services are kind of notorious for their buns being very run-of-the-mill and slightly dry, but this one was soft and sweet. Wailulu Bar & Grill If you’re looking for a burger that has a unique, slightly spicy yet slightly sweet flavor, this might be your burger. Plus, we can not neglect the views that come from this restaurant at Disney World. View from Wailulu Bar and Grill For more Disney food reviews, follow us at DFB! 24. Going by the number of annual guests, Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is the most popular theme park on the planet. Welcome to the Magic Kingdom! However, there are some tidbits about the park that Disney wants to keep at the down-low… and we’re not talking about the underground Utilidor tunnels. Pirates of the Caribbean was Initially Left Out Pirates of the Caribbean is arguably the most well-known Disney attraction of all-time thanks to its billion-dollar movie series. However, back when Walt Disney World was being planned, the ride (which had opened at Disneyland in 1967) wasn’t included in the Magic Kingdom. At the time Disney Imagineers believed that since pirates were a large part of Florida lore, locals wouldn’t find them exciting. Pirates of the Caribbean They were wrong. What Imagineers didn’t count on was the fact that millions in Florida (and up and down the east coast) had spent years watching Walt Disney talk about Pirates of the Caribbean on the Disneyland television series, and they wanted to see the ride for themselves. Upon Disney World’s opening, the #1 guest complaint was “Where are the pirates?!” Pirates of the Caribbean Entrance Acting quickly, Disney announced that an East Coast version of the attraction would be built, which opened in 1973. However, there was a slight issue… Disney World’s Pirates Pales in Comparison The version of Pirates of the Caribbean that built at Disney World is significantly shorter than its Disneyland counterpart, lacking several scenes during the early portion of the ride, as well as lacking some animatronics and other effects. Pirates of the Caribbean In addition, the money that was used to build the Magic Kingdom’s Pirates was taken from the proposed budget for the Western River Expedition. This massive E-Ticket attraction was planned to headline Walt Disney World’s second phase, and was the brainchild of legendary Imagineer Marc Davis. In the end, the attraction would never be built. Western River Expedition model. Main Street Tributes On a happier note about legendary Imagineers, many (including the aforementioned Davis) are honored on Main Street U.S.A. If you look up at the second level of park’s entry land, each window bears a name and reference to a legendary Imagineer or other major figure in the history of the Disney company. Window Tributes Center Street Voices Staying on Main Street, there’s a small easter egg for those looking for it. If you’re able to grab a quiet moment on Center Street – – the small side street about halfway down Main Street near the current Starbucks location – – listen closely and you can hear the conversions of the residents living above the small courtyard. Center Street Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was NEVER Meant to be Built Since its 2014 opening, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has consistently been one of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions, with some of its highest wait times. Which probably makes it all the more surprising that the ride wasn’t originally planned for the New Fantasyland expansion. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train When concept art for the New Fantasyland project was first released, the area where the coaster currently sits was occupied by several interactive Disney Princess meet and greets (in a similar vein to Enchanted Tales with Belle). Reaction to these plans was negative, with many lamenting the lack of a major new attraction and the emphasis on Princesses. Disney pivoted, replacing the meet & greets with the Mine Train, and the rest is history. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Next time you head to the Magic Kingdom, keep these tidbits and history in mind! 26. It’s almost time…a huge celebration will be starting soon! ©Disney Yep, Disneyland is celebrating its 70th birthday and there’s going to be a massive party that starts on May 16th and ends in summer 2026. In honor of that big anniversary, Disney is breaking out some new ride additions, a Walt Disney animatronic (no, REALLY), and bringing back one of its most popular parades, Paint The Night. However, Paint the Night is getting some upgrades, and Disney just shared a look at one of them. Disney shared a new look at Tinker Bell in the parade, and it looks like Tink got a bit of a glow-up with a new light-up outfit. For comparison, here’s what Tink looked like in 2016 when Paint The Night was being performed for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary. Tinker Bell in 2016 Here’s what Tink will look like when Paint The Night returns in 2025. As you can see, she got an all-new light-up outfit that’s a lot more streamlined. It has been many years since the parade was last performed, so it would make sense that Disney gives it a bit of an update — technology has changed a lot in a decade! ©Disney Disney also recently revealed that the Frozen float will be returning to the parade. The Incredibles float replaced the Frozen float in 2018, but Disney confirmed that Anna and Elsa’s float will come back in 2025 for the first time since the parade’s initial run. ©Disney The parade will also include illuminated floats from other Disney movies, including Monsters, Inc., Cars, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and more. Characters will include Ariel, Belle, Buzz and Woody, Mike and Sulley, Peter Pan, Rapunzel, and more! ©Disney Paint The Night returns on May 16th, so be sure to check the Disneyland website or app for showtimes. 28. The brand-new, insanely innovative and thrilling Epic Universe park opens on May 22nd, but we have been able to visit the park several times through previews, so we are sharing our top 3 favorite rides! Celestial Park in Epic Universe We have gotten to step through the portals and experience every part of what this new theme park offers to guests. Let’s start off by saying these attractions are unique and fun. The level of technology you’ll find here is impressive, and we can’t wait for this park to fully open soon. Whether you are planning a trip to Epic yourself or you’re interested in learning more about the rides here, we’re breaking down our top favorite rides. 1. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry In The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic, you’ll find the Battle at the Ministry attraction. The queue for this line itself is huge, and Universal did not miss the mark on the details in it. Plus, you get to travel by Floo powder! You begin inside the Ministry of Magic, where Dolorus Umbridge is on trial for her crimes. This is an original story that you won’t find in the books or films of Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry You ride in an elevator to the trial, where you’ll go on an adventure with Harry, Hermione, Ron, and a house-elf named Higgledy. Without giving spoilers away, this ride is full of animatronics that are VERY lifelike. You’ll see some familiar faces and nods to the Harry Potter books throughout the ride, making it so fun for fans. The ride really blows us away, and we think it’ll be a favorite amongst visitors. Seats on Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry During previews, this ride is using a Virtual Queue system that has been notoriously hard to grab. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry has a minimum height requirement of 40″ or 102 cm. We also spotted signage for a Single Rider Line at this attraction. Read Spoilers from Our Ride on the Battle at the Ministry Here! 2. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment Now, we’re heading over to Dark Universe, where our second favorite attraction lives. This attraction follows Victoria Frankenstein as she sets out to continue the work of her ancestors by controlling all of the monsters. Again, the queue alone for this ride is impressive. There are animatronics in the queue that look so realistic that it will have you excited for what is to come on the ride. Ygor’s demonstration! The number of animatronics throughout the ride blew us away, as well as their design. We had a few jaw-dropping moments throughout the attraction. It’s also not scary like you might think compared to Halloween Horror Nights, but we did get motion sick from it — it was worth it, though. We would argue it’s as scary as Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom. The preshow! The ride vehicle is similar in style to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It was a very fun ride, and if you enjoy the classic monsters, you’ll appreciate this one. Read Spoilers from Monsters Unchained Here! 3. Stardust Racers Stardust Racers is, in our opinion, one of the greatest roller coasters. It is fast, and there are several launches throughout the ride. One of our favorite things about this coaster is racing against the other train and seeing them beside you throughout the ride. One of our reporters, who is not a fan of the way roller coasters make her feel, loved it and said that she did not feel sick with this one. Stardust Racers We hope these help you on your trip to Epic Universe. For more on the latest news from Epic Universe, follow DFB!
