The day is finally here! Two new shows are officially open in Hollywood Studios. Hollywood Studios We’ve been talking about them for months, and now that we’ve seen both for ourselves, we can’t wait for everyone to sit down in the theaters and enjoy the entertainment that Disney World has to offer. Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure are officially open! You can find Unfairly Ever After where Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy was. The whole theater has been transformed for Disney’s most evil characters ,with a Magic Mirror and picture frames filling the stage. Disney Villains Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent will guide you through their stories, where you decide who has been treated most unfairly, and depending on who the audience picks, you’ll have a different show ending. Captain Hook Shows run from 10 AM to 7 PM, with 15 shows throughout the day, so there is plenty of time to watch what could be your new favorite. Cruella Over in Animation Courtyard, The Little Mermaid is a new retelling of the original Voyage of the Little Mermaid show that was previously in the same theater. With new projections and screens, the story of Ariel is back on stage as she floats around and sings classic songs. Little Mermaid Theater Guests will be transported through the major scenes of the movie with incredible puppets and see Ariel float right across the stage. She doesn’t touch the ground as a mermaid! The show runs from 9:15 AM to 7:15 PM and is offered as a Lightning Lane selection. Hi Ariel! We are so glad these two theaters are filled with beautiful productions and are ready to welcome guests to these fun, family-friendly shows. Madame Tussauds Orlando has introduced a wax figure of Angela Bassett to its lineup at the Icon Park attraction. The actress came face-to-face with her likeness there. Her new figure wears a black and gold jumpsuit, selected by Bassett star and inspired by the red-carpet look — a FARM Rio “Sunny Mood” V-neck sequined number — she sported for the Los Angeles premiere of “The Book of Clarence” in 2023. “They got it right, it’s just beautiful,” said Bassett, who grew up in St. Petersburg. “To have a career that has brought me two wax figures at Madame Tussauds is kind of humbling.” Bassett praised the figure overall, but got down to details in a video released by Madame Tussauds. “I love her lips. I love the lip color. They got that right,” she said. “I love the eyes. I remember when we were choosing the eyes. I have very dark eyeballs but they got that right.” Bassett met with the Tussauds creative team, including sculptors, colorists, hair experts and stylists, who took approximately 200 measurements and reference photos to re-create her likeness. This is her second figure for the company. The first one stands at Madame Tussauds Hollywood in California. “Angela was hands-on throughout the process, from selecting the perfect look to reviewing early details of the figure,” said Madame Tussauds Orlando General Manager Paul Gould. “That level of involvement always makes the figure even more lifelike and personal and we can’t wait for guests.” After meeting herself, Bassett mingled in the attraction, interacting with figures for Morgan Freeman, Johnny Depp and Lady Gaga, her co-star on “American Horror Story.” Bassett’s screen credits include “Black Panther,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “Malcolm X,” “Waiting to Exhale,” “American Horror Story” and “9-1-1,” which ABC recently renewed for a ninth season. A word of warning if you’re visiting Disney World on a holiday weekend! The longest lines you could wait in may not necessarily be inside one of its parks. Disney Springs Disney World has several measures in place to help you not wait in long lines as often as possible, like Lightning Lane Premier Pass and Multi Pass. But if you find yourself visiting this particular area of Disney World today, you might wish you had a Lightning Lane to help you get through its lines FASTER! Waiting in line at Disney World is fairly unavoidable on any given day, even with Disney’s paid services to help you through your day. Well…at least inside the parks. But, sometimes lines at Disney World show up where you least expect them, and Memorial Day has certainly been no exception! Parking spaces While taking a trip out to Disney Springs, one of our reporters ran into an unexpected problem. As she was pulling into the Lime Garage at Disney Springs, she noticed that several of this garage’s floors were already FULL for the day. Here’s the problem though, it was still only midday! Lime Garage parking So by the time she got into the line to park inside the garage, it was already too late to escape. This is an unexpected problem you could run into if you’re not arriving early for a day at Disney Springs. With summer quickly approaching, schools beginning their summer breaks, and more people traveling to Orlando, this popular shopping and dining district could see a surge in attendance soon that could last for weeks. Security line Honestly though, our best tips we can offer as a solution to this parking problem (aside from arriving early) is to be flexible. By switching up where you typically planned to park, you could find yourself at a different parking garage that’s less crowded. This was our experience when we checked out the Orange Garage side instead. Orange Garage parking sign So while you might need to switch up your original plans, you’ll also want to make sure you’ve packed your patience while you wait your turn and examine the rows for a parking spot. There are nearly countless places to eat all around Disney World property, but not all of them are totally worth your time. Canada Pavilion This is especially true over in EPCOT, as it’s home to eleven different countries featuring dining options with cuisines from around the world, and a lot of times, it can be hard to decide where you’d like to try. If you’re looking for something quick and you’re craving some French fries, you may be inclined to head towards Refreshment Port, but is it really worth it? We found out! Over at Refreshment Port in the Canada Pavilion, you’ll almost always find a special option for the EPCOT Festival going on, but if you’re in between festivals, no need to worry. You can also find Traditional Poutine here for $7.50. This is made with French Fries, Beef Gravy, and Cheese Curds. Traditional Poutine This is definitely strong on the savory side, especially since it’s smothered in gravy, and we thought there was a good amount of salt on the fries here too — not too much, not too little. The cheese curds on top were soft and chewy, exactly what you want from poutine. Overall, it’s a classic Canadian snack done well that you can’t really go wrong with! Yum! There are a few different drink options here as well. Some of them come and go with the festivals, so you’ll want to grab them while you can, like the Raspberry Lemon Hard Cider from Lexington, KY for $12. Raspberry Lemon Hard Cider The flavor here was good, and it wasn’t overly strong, so if you’re looking for a cider with strong flavor, this one likely will be a miss for you. While it didn’t blow us away, the raspberry and lemon were balanced against each other well, and we were really impressed with the portion size for the price! It’s not very strong! It’s not often we’re let down by this spot, so if you find yourself in the park and are looking for some classic Canadian eats, we say it’s worth a stop (ESPECIALLY if there’s a festival going on)! Disneyland Resort is home to TONS of special treats right now thanks to Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration, and we’re loving it! Disneyland Entrance and Train Station A lot of the snacks are inside Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, but not ALL of them! We just headed over to Downtown Disney and got to try some of the special snacks and drinks you can grab at Parkside for the celebration, and trust us when we say you won’t want to miss them! Parkside Market is located in Downtown Disney, and it’s a great place to head if you’re looking for some lighter eats and great drinks! Parkside For Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary, there are multiple new options you can grab, and we’re starting with the drinks! The Joy and Inspiration is flamingo pick, refreshing fruity, and doesn’t have a strong alcohol taste, which we enjoyed. Joy and Inspiration You can also grab the 70th Monorail Mocktail! This is very fun with the printed 70th logo, and is sweet but flavorful — a great choice for those who don’t like to drink/aren’t able to drink. 70th Monorail Mocktail There’s also a whole secret menu you can order drinks off of, too! In order to get this secret menu, you’ll need to say, “I’d like to wake up the glee club.” Secret Menu! The Michael and Pierre drinks are ADORABLE, and we personally preferred the Michael (green) — the peach and lime were stand out flavors and it was very easy to drink. The Pierre (white), on the other hand, was pretty strong and was very rum heavy, which we weren’t big fans. Unfortunately, these cups aren’t for sale, so you won’t be able to take them home with you! Michael and Pierre! Two other drinks available on the secret menu are the FiFi… FiFi …and the Fritz’s Thunder! Fritz’s Thunder As for the eats, these are priced between $8-$10 — when we visited, official menus weren’t ready just yet! First up for us was the Chips & Guacamole, and this was a MASSIVE portion of guacamole that was very good, smooth, and had great flavor. The house made chips are fantastic, and the puffy ones are almost stuffable — you can take a bite then fill with guacamole. Chips and Guacamole The Fried Pickles & Spicy Aioli are thinly sliced salty goodness. The batter is light which makes them more like chips. If you are a pickle fan, we say try them! The aioli was also nice — not too spicy, but we think the pickles stand really well on their own too. Fried Pickles & Spicy Aioli The Buffalo Chicken Dip was our favorite! It’s served warm with the house made chips, it’s not too spicy, and is savory with lots of flavor. Not to mention it’s a great portion, especially for the price! Buffalo Chicken Dip Finally, we had the Waffle Fries. These were probably our least favorite item. They’re nothing too special, but are fine to share. However, if you add the buffalo dip to them, you’ve got a real winner, so that’s a snack hack to keep in mind! Waffle Fries We’re looking forward to continuing to try all the exciting new snacks around the resort, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB! Don’t want to grab a pastry from the food court or eat a granola bar in your hotel room? You don’t have to! There are SO many delicious breakfast options in Disney World! Disney’s Hollywood Studios And if you’re heading to Hollywood Studios, did you know you can grab breakfast in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge? That’s right! I’m taking you with me to Ronto Roasters to try some of their most popular morning offerings. Let’s go! Atmosphere Ronto Roasters is located in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge near the marketplace. It’s a fairly small restaurant, but they’ve got some really great eats. Ronto Roasters They offer both a walk-up counter for ordering as well as a Mobile Order service through the My Disney Experience app. Mobile Order The centerpiece of the restaurant is a giant spit where you can see your meat “cooking” before you dine. Appetizing! Hard at work! The seating area is fairly small, so make sure that you’re efficient when you take up a table. The seats do offer a pretty nice view of Galaxy’s Edge. Seating For extra seating, you can head down to Docking Bay 7 right nearby! Extra seating But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Like the lunch menu, the breakfast menu here is fairly short — just two breakfast specialties, two entrees, two plant-based items, and a handful of beverages. The key item to order during the morning is the Ronto Morning Wrap. Menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, I grabbed the Ronto Morning Wrap for $12.79. This is made with eggs, grilled pork sausage, shredded cheddar, and peppercorn sauce on pita bread. Ronto Morning Wrap The sausage here is the same as always — tender, juicy, and has a great snap to it along with a fantastic smoky flavor. The peppercorn sauce not only adds a creaminess to the wrap, but its kick pairs very well with the sausage itself. The eggs were fine, nothing special about them and they don’t add a lot to the dish, and my only complaint was that I wish the cheese on top was melted just a little bit! Otherwise, it’s a good, filling breakfast option for eaters who aren’t too, too picky. It’s a solid option! I also decided on the Rising Moons Overnight Oats for $6.99. These are made with oats, dragon fruit, yogurt, and other seasonal fruits. I was surprised I liked these as much as I did! The oats are smooth and creamy with just the slightest chew to them. While I couldn’t pinpoint the flavor exactly, I do think it was something close to berry, or at least fruity. If you’re looking for something a little lighter and healthier than the wrap, I say it’s a great choice! Rising Moons Overnight Oats One of my coworkers also tried the vegan option here, the Triple Suns Wrap, and was shocked to find that it’s been improved MASSIVELY thanks to a recipe change. The two pieces of vegan egg in here had fantastic flavor and they didn’t notice any more of the tart flavor that was there previously, and now all the flavors mix together beautifully. Triple Suns Wrap The spices are still as prevalent as ever, so if you’re spice adverse, we recommend staying away. Otherwise, vegan eaters, you’ve gotta give this a try! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for a hearty breakfast to start your day You’re looking for some more unique flavors You want something you can walk and talk with You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re a pickier eater You prefer lighter options for breakfast You don’t want to struggle to find a seat Overall This place very rarely disappoints us, and this visit just proved it yet again! We think it’s a spot all Star Wars fans should check out, even if it’s just to look at the decor and details, but for more adventurous eaters, it may be the perfect breakfast option for you. Some great options! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. We’ve been waiting YEARS for something to happen at this unassuming site at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and now, the time has finally come! It’s happening! “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” (a reimagined version of the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” show) officially debuts on May 27th, but we got the chance to check it out a bit early — and we’re telling you everything you need to know! “The Voyage of the Little Mermaid” has been closed since 2020, and “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” is the NEW attraction that has officially replaced it. Announced back in 2023, nearly two years later, the show is FINALLY a reality. This reimagined show is inspired by the original animated classic from Walt Disney Animation Studios — The Little Mermaid. (A.K.A., it’ll be based on the original animated film, NOT the more recent live-action retelling). The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure Musical numbers like “Part of Your World,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” and “Kiss the Girl” are part of the updated show, and now that we’ve seen it, we’re letting you know our thoughts! When you enter the theatre from the mental stanchions/waiting area outside, the first room you’ll encounter is essentially a holding room before the pre-show, so it’s nice that you get to wait mostly indoors! The pre-show just had some instrumental music from the film playing, and then we headed into the theatre. Holding area When we walked into the theatre, we noticed that there are ADA compliant rows in the front and back of the theatre, and it’s all themed to look very much like a shipwreck, which is, of course, very relevant to the story. The theatre! This essentially follows the exact same story of the original film — you start off in Ariel’s trinket room, then go through her losing her voice, her agreement with Ursula, but what really was interesting is that there are only TWO actors on stage. Ariel and Eric are the only two actors onstage, and the rest of the characters are all puppets! It was also really cool to see that when Ariel is a mermaid, she genuinely never touches the ground — she’s moved around with something that must be similar to a robotic arm. She doesn’t touch the ground as a mermaid! Now, we do feel the puppets, especially the way that Sebastian begins as a screen then becomes a puppet, are very well done, however, we weren’t a big fan of Ursula — we don’t feel it was as impressive as it could have been, especially paired with the fact that most of the rest of the the stage is screens. Ursula is more of an animatronic rather than a puppet, but there was something about it that just felt off to us, and if we’re being totally honest, we think the animatronic from the Under the Sea ride in Magic Kingdom is better than this. Ursula animatronic There’s also quite a bit of screens in this show. It was almost like seeing a 3D animation of other characters on those screens, but it doesn’t exactly match the original cartoon animation, so it’s a little jarring at times. When we’re seeing a live show, we expect to see puppets or actual actors, not screens, so it just didn’t feel very immersive to us. Not to mention that the lighting on this wasn’t great at times since they had to hide the robotic arm holding Ariel, or adjust to the screens. So many screens Overall, we’re happy something is back in this theatre and think it’ll be a good way to sit down and cool off for a little bit on hot days, but it’s certainly not a must-do. We don’t recommend using a Lightning Lane on it, and we think the show is cute overall, but we don’t know that we’ll be going out of our way to see it. We’ll be on the lookout for more news from Hollywood Studios and beyond. In the meantime, stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney updates! There are so many hidden experiences and special events around Disney World property that so many people aren’t even aware of! Villa de Lago at Saratoga Springs Resort One of our absolute favorites is over at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, which is an underrated resort in our opinion, in general, but there’s an offering here that flies under the radar, and we won’t stand for it anymore. You can attend Sangria University for UNDER $70 and not only get to drink tons of sangria, but learn how to make your own too! Sangria University happens at Three Bridges Bar & Grill at Villa Del Lago, and there are typically two classes going on at once, one on either side of the restaurant. When you first arrive, you’ll see a large Dasani water at your spot that you’ll 100% want to drink all of (you’ll understand why later), as well as a mixer for your drink, and finally chips and guacamole. Then it was time to learn about our Sangria flight! Our spot! This Sangria Flight comes with four of the restaurant’s house-made Sangrias — Cava (Sparkling) BlackBerry, Macabeo (White) which tasted like tart Lemon to us, Rosé (which was the sweetest and had the most alcohol), and Garnacha (Traditional Red). Sangria Flight While we tried them, our incredible Cast Member guide chatted with us about Sangria at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair and how, believe it or not, that event was actually what introduced the world TO Sangria! What a unique connection between Walt Disney, his attractions at the 1964-1965 World’s Fair, and Sangria — now they’re all combined in ONE area of Disney World! We learned so much! Remember how we said you’ll want to drink that whole water? Because not only do you try all four of those decently-sized Sangria tasting, but then it’s time to make your OWN! We learned that Sangria always needs three ingredients: wine, juice, and liquor. When it came to making our own, we could choose between Sparkling, White, Rosé, or Red for our wine, and then Triple sec, Apricot brandy, or Peach schnapps for the liquor. As for the juice, you can choose between 24 different options, which you can see listed below. While you are able to add in additional ingredients, those will cost extra, so that’s something to keep in mind! So many options! We decided to create ours with White Wine, Triple sec, POG Juice, and a piece of pineapple, and we weren’t disappointed! It was fruity and sweet, which is exactly what we loved. Time to mix! The whole experience takes about two hours and costs between $69-$79 depending on the demand during that time of year. The first half hour is sangria history and tasting the flight, then it takes a little while to get everyone’s custom orders in. Before long though, everyone will get their custom orders back, and you’ll spend time mixing it all and enjoying the moment. At the very end, you’ll get your diploma, and there’s a photo op you can take advantage of too! Our diploma! We think this is a must do for anyone who loves sangria and/or is looking for a great, unique experience that isn’t found many other places when you’re on vacation. It’s also something you can easily do on your own! We weren’t the only ones by ourselves, and everyone was so kind and friendly, we don’t think anyone will feel awkward. Such a great experience! Epic Universe is full of new food stands and restaurants, and we’re on a mission to try them all! Celestial Park Celestial Park is home to more than just beautiful gardens and fountains — there are some incredible eats here that you can’t miss. Tucked away near Stardust Racers, you’ll find Star Sui Bao, a food cart specializing in Asian-inspired dishes. We didn’t know what to expect from this unique snack, but consider us MAJORLY impressed! Here’s where you’ll find the Tteokbokki Skewer for $11.99. Trust us, don’t be intimidated by its look — this thing is incredible! Essentially, this is three sections of a hot dog separated by chewy rice cakes (that have the texture of a potato in the best way), then it’s wrapped in griddled cheese. Tteokbokki Skewer Then, it’s topped with Korean Barbeque Sauce, Yuzu Mayo, and Scallions, and let us just say — this is GREASY, but it’s all the best fats mixed together. The hot dog is flavorful and juicy, everything is cooked to perfection, and the melted cheese is the real star here. We can’t get enough! The Korean barbeque sauce cuts through the greasiness a little bit thanks to its sweetness, and the Yuzu Mayo adds a great bite. It’s not a meal size, it’s certainly more made for a snack, but we don’t think you’ll want to share with anyone else, so prepare to grab more than one! It’s so unique and incredible! We can’t recommend this snack enough, especially if you’re looking for something savory and you’re more of an adventurous eater. More Recent Epic Universe News! Memorial Day, which always takes place on the last Monday of May, is a day of solemnity to honor and mourn service members who made the ultimate sacrifice. One of the ways we recognize fallen heroes at Disney is by setting up tables which are meant to symbolize and honor those brave service members who never made it home. Each year we set these tables at Disneyland Resort, Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, backstage at Walt Disney World and other locations across The Walt Disney Company to honor and remember those service members’ service and sacrifice. Here are just a few of the aspects of the Missing Hero tables: A slice of lemon on the bread plate reminds us of the bitter fate of those who will never return. A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by those who have sacrificed all. An inverted glass is symbolic of those who cannot toast with us at this time. The chair is empty, the seat that remains unclaimed at the table. “The Missing Hero Tables we display at this time are meant to be a strong visual symbol of those who are no longer with us, that those who see them may stop for a moment to reflect and hopefully show appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy due to the great sacrifice that these many heroes have given for us,” explained U.S. Navy veteran and Disneyland Resort main entrance operations manager, Nick Filippone. May is National Military Appreciation Month, and here at Disney, we’re honored to salute military service—whether they be guests or cast members—in many ways. Here are a few of the ways we’ve recognized military heroes and their families throughout this past month. Magical Sail-abrations at Disneyland for LA Fleet Week 2025 We had the opportunity to once again host Sailors and Marines in port for Los Angeles Fleet Week—a salute to members of the U.S. Sea Services held over Memorial Day weekend each year—by surprising 100 service members with a day at Disneyland Resort! The Sailors and Marines had the chance to “celebrate happy” during the Disneyland 70th Celebration by enjoying time inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s Toontown and even experience reserved viewing for the “Paint the Night” parade and “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular! Most notably, cast members and guests alike had the chance to honor their valiant service with a special Flag Retreat ceremony in Town Square, accompanied by the Disneyland Band and The Dapper Dans. Military Spouse Appreciation Day Here at Disney, we recognize the unwavering strength and support that military families provide to their loved ones in the U.S. Armed Forces. For Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 9, we highlighted military spouse and planDisney panelist, Carrie. Carrie was able to discover the joy of Disney vacations with her family thanks to the various discounts and promotions we offer at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort for eligible U.S. military members. “Disneyland Resort has truly become a home away from home for me and our kids. Obviously, we love coming to celebrate—making up for lost time when Dad’s here—but it’s also a place we choose to go when we’re having a hard time, and we just want to get away for a little bit,” explained Carrie. We recognize that the military is a family business and make it a priority to create happiness for service members, veterans and military families who visit our parks from coast-to-coast. Nods to Service Across Our Parks Our parks are full of small details, rich history and hidden nods to service, including former President George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors exhibit in EPCOT. Beyond the portraits, there are also nods to veterans who helped build the parks, such as Disney Legend and U.S. Navy veteran, Rear Admiral Joe Fowler, who is among nearly 25 Disney Legends who helped shape the parks as we know them today. You can find his name at “Fowler’s Harbor” along the Rivers of America in Disneyland park or even ride the Admiral Joe Fowler ferry across the Seven Seas Lagoon at Walt Disney World. Flag Retreats from Coast-to-Coast Flag Retreats have become a proud tradition at our parks on both coasts. Every day, as the flag is lowered on Main Street, U.S.A., we take time to salute the heroes who stand up for our country. Disney has continuously honored countless service members, veterans and their families throughout the years and it will continue to be a representation of our enduring salute to service. These ceremonies have created incredibly special moments where we have and continue to honor and recognize our military service members in both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom–something we’ve been doing since Disneyland park first opened almost 70 years ago. Creating Happiness Year Round There are so many ways we bring joy to our guests, and we take pride in our over 100 years of enduring salute to service. We are grateful to not only get to recognize our heroes within our parks but also through charitable giving and relationships with organizations like the USO, Blue Star Families, Fisher House and Student Veterans of America or through hiring initiatives like Heroes Work Here. Eligible U.S. Military members even have access to discounted tickets and resort stays year-round. For ticket purchases, visit your nearest participating U.S. military base ticket office or Shades of Green. For resorts, please visit our resort websites for Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. If you have questions about military discounts or planning your Disney vacation, visit planDisney.com. We are proud to support service members of the U.S. Armed Forces and extend heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service! *Offers subject to change and availability. Memorial Day 2025: Disney Honors the Fallen with Missing Hero Tables Memorial Day has always served as a reminder to pause and reflect on the selfless service and sacrifice of our fallen military heroes. Disney is honored to take part in recognizing our heroes’ valiant service and the families they have left behind. Disney’s enduring salute to service began over a century ago when founders, Walt and Roy O. Disney, both nobly served their country during World War I. Through contributing to morale of U.S. Armed Forces with Disney-themed military insignias, hidden nods to service woven into the iconic parks, supporting veteran employment and more, Disney continues to foster military support and camaraderie. Disney honors all fallen heroes this Memorial Day weekend with Missing Hero Tables at Disneyland Resort, Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa and backstage locations at Walt Disney World Resort. The tables are reserved to honor the brave and selfless American military members who gave their lives in service to our country or went missing in action and have not found their way back home. “The Missing Hero Tables we display at this time are meant to be a strong visual symbol of those who are no longer with us, that those who see them may stop for a moment to reflect and hopefully show appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy due to the great sacrifice that these many heroes have given for us,” explained Disneyland Resort main entrance operations manager and U.S. Navy veteran, Nick Filippone. During National Military Appreciation Month, The Walt Disney Company continues its longstanding commitment to those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and their families by remembering and honoring their courage and sacrifice. Disneyland Hosts Sailors and Marines for Los Angeles Fleet Week 2025 Disneyland Resort hosted Marines and Sailors in port for Los Angeles Fleet Week — a salute to members of the U.S. Sea Services held over Memorial Day Weekend each year–by surprising 100 service members with a day at Disneyland Resort! The Sailors and Marines had the chance to “celebrate happy” during the Disneyland 70th Celebration by enjoying time inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Mickey’s Toontown and even the returning “Paint the Night” parade and “Wondrous Journeys” nighttime spectacular! “Disney really embraces our veterans, and it’s been part of the DNA of the Disneyland Resort. You see it everywhere you go — from the flag retreat to Veteran’s Day to Fleet Week 2025 — it’s always at the forefront of what we do here every day,” said Ariel Elias, manager, Supplier Diversity, Disneyland Resort who is also a retired Marine Corps Warrant Officer and former participant in Disney’s military fellowship program. Most notably, cast members and guests alike had the chance to honor their valiant service with a special flag retreat ceremony in Town Square, accompanied by the Disneyland Band, The Dapper Dans and special honoree, Rear Admiral Richard W. Meyer, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Third Fleet, U.S. Navy. “How many times in your life do you have the opportunity to actually get to participate in the events that are happening at Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth?” said Rear Admiral Meyer. “To be able to come here, share that with the public, participate in the events, get to see some of the cool new things at Disneyland, and really get to show off the Sailors and Marines to the community — it’s really a chance to do that and I think that’s what made this a really special day.” Packaging Magic for Heroes and their Families Disney VoluntEARS help assemble 2,000 USO care kits for deployed U.S. service members at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Disney VoluntEARS program empowers cast members all over the world to participate in charitable events with various organizations – with over 13 million hours volunteered since 1983. In support of National Military Appreciation Month, cast members around the country had various opportunities to help support military families and veterans including assembling care packages on both coasts and donating books in Hawaii. Through the United Service Organization (USO), Walt Disney World cast members were able to come together in creating 2,000 care packages for deployed service members. The bags are made up of various toiletry items, a note of encouragement and a touch of Disney magic. Similarly, VoluntEARS in Glendale got to work with Blue Star Families to assemble care packages for military families to aid in easing their transition after moving due to Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. Moving can be stressful and impactful on various aspects of family life and these care packages help bring happiness to those families by sharing the magic of Disney. Blue Star Families also worked alongside cast members from Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, to bring joy to military families at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. VoluntEARS participated in crafting with kids, a special reading of Lilo & Stitch (Little Golden Book), and even helped facilitate a surprise visit from Stitch! Each child received a Mickey Mouse plush and had the opportunity to select five free Disney books to take home. “Aulani was honored to help our Blue Star Families ‘ohana bring a little Disney magic to Hawai’i-based military families through the power of mo’olelo or story,” said Dylan Rogers, Aulani Ambassador. Blue Star Families Kitting Event in GlendaleBlue Star Books event in Hawaii This year, Disney is once again delivering care packages of Disney-themed products to nearly 100 Fisher Houses across the country, from Anchorage to Miami. This continues the company’s relationship with Fisher House Foundation, which offers free, temporary lodging to military and veteran families, allowing them to be close to their loved ones receiving medical care at a nearby military medical center or VA Hospital. There are many ways Disney brings joy to guests and the company takes pride in its over 100 years of enduring salute to service. Since 2012, Disney has contributed funding and media support to nonprofit organizations that focus on creating happiness for veterans and military families. The company is grateful to not only get to recognize heroes within our parks but also through charitable giving and relationships with organizations like the USO, Blue Star Families, Fisher House Foundation and Student Veterans of America or through hiring initiatives like Heroes Work Here. Long-Standing History of Support for the Military Walt Disney once said, “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.” The foundation of Disney parks and resorts can be credited to the efforts of many individuals, including veterans. In the creation of Disneyland, Walt turned to fellow service members to help make his dream a reality, nearly 25 of whom are recognized as Disney Legends. Through the creation of Heroes Work Here in 2012, Disney has continued to support employment opportunities for U.S. military members and helped thousands of veterans find jobs within The Walt Disney Company. Today, the program continues Disney’s commitment to facilitating the professional success of veterans and their families. Disney parks are places that create happiness and enduring family memories. This is especially important for military families enjoying time together in between times of extended separations due to military service. Disney honors and salutes the service and sacrifice of military service members and veterans in many ways including daily flag retreat ceremonies at Magic Kingdom Park in Florida and Disneyland Park in California. These are incredibly special moments and something the company has been doing since Disneyland first opened nearly 70 years ago. Additionally, through special relationships with such organizations as the Bush Institute, Disney is honored to host former President George W. Bush’s Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors exhibit in EPCOT. Whether it’s through charitable contributions, training programs or theme park discounts, The Walt Disney Company continues to exemplify respect and honor for those who have sacrificed and contributed to the U.S. Armed Forces. So, when exactly does hurricane season start in Disney World? Rainy day at Magic Kingdom Here’s the thing: hurricane season has a date on the calendar, but Mother Nature doesn’t really follow rules. Officially, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. But over the past few years, we’ve seen storms pop up earlier and earlier—sometimes even weeks before June hits. And according to early 2025 forecasts, that trend might not be slowing down anytime soon. Let’s talk about what that means if you’re planning a Disney World trip soon. The Calendar Says June 1—But the Weather Might Not Wait Technically, hurricane season doesn’t start until June 1st. But we’ve now reached a point where that date feels more like a suggestion than a hard rule. In seven of the last 10 years, a named storm has formed before the official start of the season. For context: that only happened three times between 2005 and 2014. So yeah, early storms are becoming the norm, not the exception. And 2025 is shaping up to follow that same pattern. ©CNN Some weather models are already hinting at storm development in the western Caribbean—an area that could directly impact Central Florida, including Disney World. Sea surface temperatures in that region are running way hotter than average for May, and that heat is basically fuel for tropical systems. So if you’re visiting Disney World in May—or even early June—it’s worth being a little more hurricane-aware than usual. Why Are We Seeing More Early Storms? A lot of it comes down to ocean temps. Our oceans are warming up earlier in the year, and storms love warm water. Warm water = energy. Energy = stronger, faster-developing storms. And this spring, sea surface temps in the Caribbean and Gulf are more in line with what we’d expect in late June or July. That’s…not great. ©NOAA It’s also why the National Hurricane Center bumped up their tropical weather outlook schedule a few years ago. Since 2021, they’ve started issuing outlooks on May 15 instead of June 1, just to keep up with how things are shifting. We’re not saying Disney World is going to get slammed with a storm next week. But we are saying this season is worth watching, especially if your vacation is happening before mid-June. What Early Hurricane Season Means for Disney World Let’s clear something up: An early start to hurricane season doesn’t automatically mean a wild ride in the parks. But 2025 is expected to be a busy year. Hurricane researchers at Colorado State University are predicting 17 named storms this season, which is above average. ©NOAA More storms = more chances for disruptions. And while Disney is pretty amazing at handling bad weather (they don’t mess around with safety), a tropical storm or hurricane can definitely impact your park day. Think closures, reschedules, and, yes, a lot of rain ponchos. That’s why we always recommend keeping an eye on weather forecasts if you’re headed to Disney anytime between May and November—and especially this year. What You Can Do If You’re Planning a Trip Watch the forecast. If your trip falls in late May or early June, you might be arriving during the first wave of tropical activity. Stay in the loop and be ready to pivot if needed. Stay flexible. If a named storm is on the horizon, Disney will usually offer options to reschedule or cancel. They’ve been super guest-friendly about this in the past. Pack smart. Bring lightweight rain gear just in case. And remember—Florida rain hits hard and fast. Even outside of hurricane season, you’re probably going to get wet at some point. Know Disney’s hurricane policy. If an official hurricane warning is issued for Orlando or your home location within seven days of your arrival, Disney does allow you to cancel or modify your vacation without penalties. So, When Does It Really Start? The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1st. But if we’re going by recent patterns and 2025 predictions, it wouldn’t be surprising to see named storms showing up before that date—especially with how warm the water is already. Crowds in Magic Kingdom ahead of the hurricane Bottom line: don’t freak out, but do stay informed. Early tropical activity doesn’t guarantee a stormy trip, but it’s better to be prepared than caught off guard. Especially when you’re trying to make the most of your time in the most magical place on Earth. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more. Oh no! Our favorite shoes for walking around Disney World are getting a price increase. Hoka You’ll almost always catch us wearing Hokas in the parks since they’re able to withstand the different terrains and grounds of the park, and we’re disappointed to see they’re going to cost us more. Deckers Outdoor, the makers of Hoka and Ugg, said, “the company expects up to $150 million in additional costs of goods sold for the fiscal year,” according to Investors. The prices of shoes are rising due to tariffs, the increasing cost of manufacturing, upgraded materials, and higher ocean freight rates. We love the spring of Hoka Hokas are not the cheapest running shoes we’ve seen, but we’re generally willing to pay the price because of how incredible these shoes are. They have large cushions on the bottom and truly let us go miles and miles in the parks. Even one of our DFB reporters who refuses to wear anything beyond flip-flops will cave and use Hokas from time to time. For a solid pair of running shoes, we can expect to pay around $125 to $170, averaging about $150. We are not looking forward to this price increasing! Hoka Clifton 10 We might not be able to stop the prices from increasing, but how can we get our favorite shoes at a lower cost? Sales! Here at Disney Food Blog, we’re always hunting for the best deals for Hokas and other running shoe brands so you can save a little more money. What we wouldn’t do is skip on a great pair of shoes. No one likes being delayed when they’re flying, especially if they’ve got a connection to make or are otherwise on a time crunch. Southwest Plane Sometimes it’s not possible to plan ahead for flight delays or cancellations, but if you’re flying in or out of Orlando, there’s a specific time of day you’ll want to majorly avoid. While it won’t guarantee you won’t run into issues, if you want a better chance at avoiding any delays, this is one of the best ways to make it happen! We’re entering hurricane season in Orlando, but summertime in general also brings an influx of thunderstorms in the afternoon 0n many days. Storms and heavy rain can easily delay planes, even if the storm is only supposed to be around for half an hour. MCO Airport The storms most commonly hit in late afternoon, as the heat of the day hits. Heat lightning can also be present without the accompaniment of thunder and rain, but can delay planes all the same. Orlando International Airport (MCO) saw 350 delays in ONE afternoon on May 25th, solely due to afternoon storms — and this is not uncommon. Orlando International Airport Therefore, if you’re looking for a way to avoid your flight being delayed by a common problem in the city during the summer, we suggest flying in/out of Orlando in the morning! While this does mean getting up earlier and spending less time in the parks/at home, it’s often very worth it if you’re aiming to get to your destination on time and want a lesser chance of the weather causing issues. Orlando International Airport While we do also recommend morning flights during the winter and fall season as well, afternoon storms are less likely to affect flights during the cooler times of year. Again, this isn’t foolproof, as other storm systems can come through unexpectedly at any time of year, but this is a good way to cross at least one potential issue off your list! Disney+ is home to some of our favorite kids’ TV shows, including Bluey and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but a familiar show might be coming to the catalog. ©Disney After one streaming platform declined to renew, Disney+ picked up this show and will soon be available on the platform. According to Variety, Cocomelon will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ starting in 2027. ©Moonbug This children’s nursery rhyme show joined Netflix in 2020, and while it brought in a lot of views, Netflix says the viewership has declined by almost 60%. The show initially started on YouTube, where it has over 190 million subscribers and over 200 billion views. Cocomelon’s producer, Moonbug Entertainment, also produces Blippi and Cocomelon Lane, which are set to stay on Netflix. Moonbug recently laid off around 5% of its workforce, mostly for jobs in Los Angeles and London. ©Netflix Right now, Disney+ has three of the most-streamed shows for preschool kids, ages two to five: #1 — Bluey #2 — Spidey and His Amazing Friends #3 — Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Cocomelon is currently #6 on this list, and once acquired, Disney+ will own four of the ten top preschool shows. ©Disney Disney World has been slowly bringing characters from kids’ shows into the parks, specifically for little ones. Hollywood Studios is a hot spot for them since you can meet Fancy Nancy, Vampirina, and Doc McStuffins. Fancy Nancy You can join in on the fun at Disney Jr. Play and Dance! This show is temporarily changing to “Get Animated” for Disney’s Cool Kid Summer, where kids can play in a DJ-led dance party with games, crafts, and an imaginary obstacle course. Disney Jr. Play and Dance We haven’t seen Bluey enter the theme parks yet, but they look like they’re having fun on the Disney Cruise Line. Bluey and Bingo! Is Cocomelon coming to the parks? We aren’t sure, but we will be keeping an eye on it to see what Disney does with this property. Keep following Disney Food Blog to stay up to date on all Disney news.
