  4. While Walt Disney World’s four theme parks are often full of guests that make it feel like every inch of them is packed, the truth is that all of them have abandoned spaces right smack dab in the middle of their busiest areas. Galaxy’s Edge From long-abandoned EPCOT pavilions and the husk of a several-times-transformed opening day Magic Kingdom attraction to a quickly abandoned Animal Kingdom amphitheater and a technically still open but might as well not be Hollywood Studios experience, these abandoned areas of Disney World’s parks desperately need a shot in the arm. Wonders of Life Wonders of Life opened to much fanfare at EPCOT in 1989. The pavilion, dedicated to health care, the human body, physical fitness, medicine, and nutrition, was initially a hit thanks to the advanced-for-the-time simulator attraction Body Wars and the popular Cranium Command show. However, as EPCOT evolved with the additions of Test Track, Mission Space, and Soarin’ in the late 90s and early 2000s, its popularity sagged. ©Wikipedia The pavilion closed in 2007, and for the next decade was used as a temporary Festival Center during the park’s annual events. In 2019, Disney announced plans to turn the space into the new Play! Pavilion, which would be themed to be an “interactive futuristic city where guests would be able to interact with a variety of Disney characters.” At the time, planned attractions for Play! were announced to include an Animation Academy-like experience where Edna Mode teaches guests to draw, the Hotel Heist interactive game hosted by Zootopia’s Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, an Arcade, a Monorail Mark X, and a water balloon fight video game experience with various Disney characters. ©Disney || Play Pavilion Concept Art As with many projects during this period, work on the Play! Pavilion was paused. However, unlike much of the rest of EPCOT’s “reimagining”, work never resumed. In 2023, Disney confirmed that the space was being “reevaluated” and the former Wonders of Life has remained vacant since. Millennium Village Moving from the (former Future World to World Showcase, our next stop is the former Millennium Village located near the U.K. Pavilion. The centerpiece of the park’s Millennium Celebration, this purpose-built 60,000 square foot area housed exhibits — ranging from small presentations to elaborately themed environments, and even a virtual reality “ride” — showcasing countries that weren’t represented in World Showcase proper, including Brazil, Chile, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and others. ©shopDisney The Millennium Village opened in October of 1999 and became quite popular, so much so that many hoped the concept might become a permanent part of EPCOT after the celebrations ended. However, that wasn’t meant to be, as the village closed when the celebration ended in January of 2021. The structure is currently used during Food & Wine and other EPCOT festivals; however, for most of the year, it sits empty and vacant, taking up a World Showcase expansion pad. Stitch’s Great Escape The show building at the front of Tomorrowland that once held Stitch’s Great Escape has actually been home to three different attractions over the years. Mission to Mars, a clone of the Disneyland original, opened in the Tomorrowland space in December of 1971 and operated until October 1993. It was replaced by the beloved by many (and reviled by others) EtraTERRORestial Alien Encounter from 1995 until 2003. via AllEars.net The attraction was retooled into Stitch’s Great Escape in 2004 and remained in operation for the most part until 2018. The space has remained vacant, short of some limited meet & greets, since. Where Stitch’s Great Escape used to be. (Construction photo from 2020) Discovery River Amphitheater Moving over to Animal Kingdom, our next abandoned space is the amphitheater-style seating that sits in the park’s Asia. The 5,000 set structures were built in the mid-2010s as part of Animal Kingdom’s expansion. The seating was initially built for the Rivers of Light nighttime show, that was scheduled to premiere in 2016. However, once it was delayed, a replacement production — The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic — ran through most of 2016. Rivers of Light Seating Area Rivers of Light finally debuted in 2017 and ran with issues until 2019, when it was retooled into Rivers of Light: We Are One. That show ran until the pandemic closure in 2020, and never reopened. In October of 2021, KiteTails opened in the theater space. The new daytime show featured large balloons themed to Disney characters that functioned like kites pulled along by jet skis, as well as in-theater performers. While the show did develop a cult following, most reactions were negative, exacerbated by a series of viral videos that showed the show’s kites “crashing” into empty sections of the bleachers. While Disney would claim these crashes were how the kites were supposed to land, the visuals definitely did not help the show’s reputation. KiteTails KiteTails was eventually retooled into a walk-by experience in May of 2022, before being axed altogether in September of that year. The theater has sat empty since. Star Wars Launch Bay So, this final space is a bit of a cheat. Star Wars Launch Bay is technically still operational at Hollywood Studios. However, the walkthrough attraction (which takes up the space that had previously been home to the Magic of Disney Animation Tour during the park’s early years) essentially sits abandoned most days despite technically being open, and takes up a huge chunk of real estate in the park. In a park that’s somewhat squeezed for space, this is bothersome to many fans, ESPECIALLY those angry at Muppet*Vision 3D being closed to make way for Monsters, Inc. Launch Bay Each of these Disney park spaces is in desperate need of an infusion of life! Stay tuned to DFB for more on the abandoned areas of Disney World. 7. Fans are flocking to this opening day Magic Kingdom original now that they know it’s about to sail away FOREVER. Liberty Square Riverboat The Rivers of America, and the riverboats that sail them, have been a part of Disney parks since the literal beginning, as the river and the Mark Twain Riverboat were part of Disneyland from the VERY beginning. The same was true of the Magic Kingdom at its opening, as the park debuted with its own version of the Rivers of America as well as its own riverboat. When Walt Disney World opened in 1971, the Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America were sailed by one riverboat: The Admiral Joe Fowler, named after a well-known figure of early Imagineering and theme park operations. In 1973 a second boat, the Richard F. Irvine (named for Disney executive Richard “” Irvine) joined the fleet. The latter would become the park’s only boat in 1980 when the Joe Fowler was retired after an accident involving a crane. Other than the ship being renamed the Liberty Belle in 1996, the Rivers of America and its riverboat remained relatively unchanged for the first 5+ decades of Disney World’s existence. That was all announced as changing in 2024. The Rivers of America At that summer’s D23: Ultimate Fan Event, Disney announced that a massive new Cars-themed area was coming to Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom… at the expense of the river, its central Tom Sawyer Island, and its watercraft, including the Liberty Belle. According to a Disney statement at the time of the announcement, “the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into vast and rugged terrains for a rally race with some of the world’s most iconic racers.” Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race. Suffice to say, many fans were unhappy with the announcement, saying that removing the Rivers of America and its watercraft was tantamount to “ripping the heart” out of the Magic Kingdom. It’s also led to some renewed fan interest in the Liberty Belle, as fans are making it a point to take a final ride down the river before construction begins sometime in 2025. The Liberty Belle Riverboat in Magic Kingdom On April 27th, 2025, the fan-run Dapper Days event — an event that celebrates “fun, refined style from vintage classics to chic, contemporary looks!”– featured a ride on the Liberty Belle as part of its itinerary. They referred to it as “one final riverboat voyage before this 51-year-old attraction permanently closes.” Liberty Belle We’re still not sure when exactly the Liberty Belle and the rest of the Rivers of America will be closing for good, but until then, some fans are making it a point to ride the opening day original to say goodbye. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the Magic Kingdom’s changes. 5 Magic Kingdom Secrets Disney Doesn’t Want You to Know Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 11. Something might look a bit DIFFERENT the next time you decide to stay at this particular Disney World hotel! Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter Disney World’s been hard at work lately refurbishing its hotel rooms, amenities, and even making some huge changes in its parks. Just when it might feel like all Disney World is doing lately is change and construction, its always nice to see it all come together once they’re finished! With over 25 themed Disney World hotels, it might feel a bit overwhelming to decide which you should choose to stay in over the course of your next visit. Each is uniquely themed inviting you to immerse yourself in a different world during your vacation and now we’re getting our first look inside one of the most recently completed updates. Port Orleans — French Quarter Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter’s hotel rooms have been under refurbishment for quite sometime, but we can’t say we feel slighted by the recent changes at all! When you choose to stay at this hotel, you’re instantly transported to become an intimate part of the lively streets of New Orleans. This whole resort is filled with colorful building facades, grand walkways and lush greenery that all work together to evoke the feeling of walking through the city’s historic streets. Mardi Gras parade! When staying in the “Big Easy” it’s all about the decor! Throughout each room, colorful fabrics and patterns inspired by the city’s charming architecture bring the lively spirit of Mardi Gras to life. You’ll also notice nods to Mardi Gras’ festivities and celebrations, including artwork that lines the walls featuring the iconic Mardi Gras strands of beads in purple, gold and green. ©Disney Our eyes were especially drawn to the pop of color you’ll find in the artwork and corners of the cabinetry against the cool tones of the blue furniture. The ground in each room has also been refurbished to a warm, brown flooring, and the updated portraits add even more character to your room (quite literally)! A closer look reveals The Princess and the Frog’s Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Louis, and Charlotte La Bouff all dressed in their Mardi Gras best and dancing through the French Quarter in style! ©Disney But what really caught our attention was the intricate detailing on the bathroom door and mosaic-style pattern above the beds. A keen eye might catch hidden details like Tiana’s sparkling tiara, as well as drums and trumpets — an homage to New Orleans’ jazz roots. ©Disney The updated bathroom looks as relaxing as it is functional. It offers plenty of storage options along with a spacious counter — perfect for mornings when the whole family is getting ready! ©Disney But the room’s here aren’t the only recent refurbishment you’ll find at this hotel. 12. Ride closures and refurbishments are a fact of life at Walt Disney World. Odds are slim that you’ll ever visit the resort and find every single ride and attraction operating on a single day. Welcome to Magic Kingdom In fact, if you’re planning on heading to the Magic Kingdom later in 2025, you’re going to find not one, but two of the park’s best-known attractions will be CLOSED for the remainder of the year! Big Thunder Mountain First up, there’s the Magic Kingdom’s iconic E-Ticket attraction, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” has been closed since early January of 2025, as the coaster is undergoing a full track replacement and refurbishment. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad According to Disney, the ride is scheduled to be closed throughout the calendar year and open sometime in 2026 with “new magic.” It hasn’t been confirmed exactly what they might entail, though speculation indicates that it may mean new effects added to the final tunnel sequence, similar to Disneyland. 14. Epic Universe is full of dozens of new food stops, and it’s our mission to try them all so you know what’s worth it on your vacation! The Portal to Dark Universe Dark Universe is one of the lands you may not expect to find some pretty fantastic food offerings, and while we haven’t been impressed by everything we’ve had here, we just tried something from The Burning Blade Tavern that we’ll be thinking about for WEEKS to come! The Burning Blade Tavern is located in the back part of the land — just look for the big windmill that is occasionally on fire! The Burning Blade Tavern This is a bar location that has a few select dining options, and we recently tried the Charred Loaded Potato for $11.49. This is hickory char-crusted and has Monterey Jack, sour cream, jalapeño bacon, and chives as toppings. Charred Loaded Potato We’ll be DREAMING about this potato for months to come! Everything here was portioned perfectly, and honestly, it was so incredible we couldn’t believe it was from a theme park — it tasted much more on par with something we’d find at a fancier restaurant in the city. WOW! It’s charred so perfectly that even the skin is infused with delicious flavor, and the jalapeño bacon added a fantastic heat and the smokiness from the char really helped to elevate it even more. We couldn’t finish this even though it had been hours since we’d last eaten, so it’s most certainly shareable between 2-3 people. We can’t get enough! 15. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from for your visit to Disneyland Resort, but unfortunately, you probably don’t have time to visit them all! Disneyland Recently, a popular dining spot at Disneyland Hotel added a new breakfast menu, so of course, we had to stop by and check it out. Come along with us to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar to try the new offerings! Atmosphere Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is a super fun themed bar and restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel! During the daytime, it’s welcome to guests of all ages, but after 8PM, it’s reserved for 21 and up. Trader Sam’s! If you’ve been to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto in Disney World, the vibes are very similar. Think “quirky tiki bar” with fun visual gags and lots of special effects when different items are ordered from the menu. It’s quite the atmosphere! Trader Sam’s Advance reservations are recommended if you’re stopping by, but you can sometimes find a spot on the walk-up waitlist if it’s not too busy. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar There is some outdoor seating available as well, but you lose a good bit of the atmosphere dining here. However, this would be nice for people who want the food and drinks, but don’t want the overwhelming effects and dark lighting. Seating These would definitely be nice tables to enjoy on a comfortable weather day. You get a great view of Disneyland Hotel from this terrace. It’s more relaxed to sit outside So what’s on the menu? Let’s see! Menu We mainly came here to try out the new breakfast menu that’s also available next door at Tangaroa Terrace. The menu is a little more unique, offering options like Tropical Pancakes, Ube-Stuffed French Toast, a smoked salmon sandwich, the Loco Loco Burrito, and more. Breakfast menu But Trader Sam’s is definitely most well-known for its inventive beverages! Many of the options here are fairly tropical, and there are plenty of souvenir cups to be found on the menu. Drinks menu Several of the cocktails, when ordered, cause the various special effects around the restaurant. More drinks If you’re a fan of Disney lore, then you’ll notice that this restaurant and its menu features some ties to the S.E.A. (the Society of Explorers and Adventurers), Disney’s “secret society” that has roots in many popular attractions around the world. Yes, even more drinks! And of course, they also have the basics — beer, wine, and bottled alcohol. Wouldn’t ya know it? They’ve got MORE drinks. Let’s order and try out some offerings! Eats For our breakfast entree, we ordered the Ube-Stuffed French Toast for $19. This is made with Japanese milk bread, coconut custard, Ube Diplomat cream, and topped with fresh tropical fruit. Ube-Stuffed French Toast First of all, this dish was absolutely stunning with the multicolored fruit and the presentation overall. The portion was pretty nice, and we left feeling pretty full. The ube cream is smooth and has a custard-like consistency, while the French toast was soft and slightly chewy. The fruit really brightened everything up, but if you prefer things on the sweeter side, you can try it with the provided syrup. YERM This is a really fun and unique option that we’d totally try again, and we definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of ube as a flavor profile. Drinks Of course, when in Trader Sam’s…you’ve got to get a drink! We tried the secret menu Dole Whip Cocktail this go around. It’s made with pineapple Dole Whip, coconut rum, and pineapple juice to create the fruity cocktail of your dreams. Shhh, it’s a secret! It’s incredibly fruity and has a strong rum flavor, so if you’re in the mood for something tropical to start your day, this is a great selection. You can snag this beverage for $14 — just tell the bartender you want the off-menu Dole Whip Cocktail. Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You’re looking for a yummy breakfast during your stay at the hotel. If you’re staying at Disneyland Hotel, this is a great new option for your morning. You want to try some unique breakfast fare. This menu is a little more exciting than your basic breakfast fare, with more tropical-inspired options available. You want to check out Trader Sam’s during the day. If you’re heading over here with your kiddos to enjoy the atmosphere, breakfast is a great time to stop by. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’ve got a busy park day. If you’re busy in the parks, it would definitely take a chunk out of your morning to come over here and get served breakfast. Save it for a resort day! You’re in a hurry in the morning. If you’re in a rush, you can get many of these items next door at Tangaroa Terrace, so you don’t have to sit down and do the Enchanted Tiki Bar full experience. Overall All in all, we really enjoyed this meal and thought it was a fun way to start the day in Disneyland! If you’re intrigued by any of the other items on the menu, we suggest you stop by and try them out during your next visit. The spread! In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! 18. Yet ANOTHER cruise ship has been afflicted with a case of gastrointestinal illness. ©Regent In a blow to the cruise industry, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has announced another outbreak on board an international cruise ship, this time aboard a Regent Seven Seas Cruises sailing that ended Wednesday, May 14th. The ship had departed from Tokyo on April 26th for a cruise through Japan and Alaska before arriving in Vancouver. According to the CDC, the outbreak saw 22 of 666 passengers and 2 of 545 crew members fall ill with predominant symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting. Furthermore, the agency says that the line the crew aboard the ship reported the following actions: Collected stool specimens from gastrointestinal illness cases for testing. Isolated ill passengers and crew. Consulted with VSP about sanitation cleaning procedures and reporting ill cases. The outbreak is seemingly part of a growing trend this year. According to USA Today, “there have been 17 outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruise ships that met the CDC’s threshold for public notification so far this year, most of which were caused by norovirus. There were 18 outbreaks in all of 2024, and 14 the previous year.” ©Regent According to a statement the CDC released to the same outlet in April, “the number of recent cruise ship outbreaks has been higher than in years prior to the pandemic, we do not yet know if this represents a new trend. However, CDC data show a newly dominant strain is currently associated with reported norovirus outbreaks on land,” the agency said in an emailed statement. “Ships typically follow the pattern of land-based outbreaks, which are higher this norovirus season.” ©Regent Another outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness onboard a cruise ship is once again shining a light on what seems like it could be an ongoing industry issue. 20. There’s some big news coming out of Shanghai Disney Resort! ©Disney In December 2023, the park opened its new Zootopia-themed land, which has been a huge hit. Now, the park is working on its third expansion since opening in 2016, and they have just broken ground on the new Spider-Man land! Back in March 2024, it was hinted that Shanghai Disneyland would be working on a new attraction next to the Zootopia land. Then, a month later in April, we got the hint that the new attraction would be a roller coaster with a forward AND backwards launch. However, its theming was still under wraps. ©Disney Finally, in August 2024, Disney announced during their D23 event that the new coaster would be themed after Spider-Man! It’ll be the park’s first Marvel ride and will be “a high-energy thrill coaster” that is a “high-speed, fully immersive experience.” They even released a look at the ride vehicle for the new ride, as well as some additional concept art. ©Disney We’re thrilled because Disney has officially broken ground on the new land, which means the work has officially begun to bring this new attraction and area of the park to life. 21. Disney World is always changing… and some of your favorite trip planning strategies might not survive into 2026. Let’s go to Disney World! If you’ve been holding on to certain tried-and-true Disney planning tactics, it’s time for a reality check. A couple of popular planning “rules” are either gone or just don’t apply anymore. We’re breaking down two of the biggest planning traditions that you can leave behind next time you’re mapping out your magical vacation — and trust us, these will surprise some people. Planning Around Virtual Queues (VQs) Let’s be honest: Virtual Queues were never fun. Stressful, yes. Necessary, maybe. But for a while, they were just part of the game—especially for new headliners like Rise of the Resistance or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We got used to setting alarms, smashing that refresh button, and crossing our fingers. It became a weird rite of passage for Disney parkgoers. But now, that era may be winding down. Let’s ride! In recent months, Disney has started moving away from using Virtual Queues as the default for new rides. Sure, they might still roll them out temporarily for a brand-new attraction (especially if it’s something massive), but it’s definitely not something you should build your 2026 park plan around. Standby line entrance at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure It’s becoming more likely that new rides will open with traditional standby lines and/or paid access through whatever the future version of Lightning Lane looks like. So those trip-planning strategies that involved mastering the 7AM VQ drop? Yeah… probably not going to help you next time around. If you’re building your whole day around a boarding group, there’s a good chance you’re going to end up scrambling when you realize one never opened up at all. Rise of the Resistance Our advice? Keep an eye on Disney’s announcements for each new ride as it opens. But don’t assume a Virtual Queue will be in place. That time is over. Planning to Hit Every EPCOT Lounge With the Whole Fam? Not Anymore. Here’s a planning twist many didn’t see coming: adults-only spaces inside Disney World parks. Yep, it’s happening. GEO-82, the new spaceship-inspired lounge opening inside EPCOT, will be 21+ only. Let that sink in for a second. One of the most hyped new additions to the park = No kids allowed. So if your plan included a lounge crawl with the whole crew, this might be where the plan hits a wall. ©Disney GEO-82 opens June 4th, 2025, and it’s already turning heads—not just for the stunning design and killer views of the “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” fireworks, but for the experience itself. We’re talking Champagne poured tableside, tasting towers with savory and sweet bites, and cocktails that feel more like mixology experiments than theme park drinks (we see you, Brown Butter Old Fashioned and Caramelized Leek Martini). ©Disney But again—adults only. No exceptions. And the exclusive fireworks package clocks in at $179 per person, which definitely pushes it into premium territory. ©Disney So if you’re the designated planner for a big family trip in 2026, this is something to keep in mind. Not every new experience will be available to everyone in your group. You’ll want to adjust your expectations accordingly—and maybe book a sitter if you want to sneak away for a fancier night at EPCOT. Bottom Line is that Disney Trip Planning in 2026 Is Getting a Shakeup If you’ve been using the same strategies since the FastPass days, it’s time to update your toolkit. Virtual Queues aren’t the must-know system they once were, and not every new experience is going to be a fit for every age group. Disney’s evolving, and your plans should too. 25. Make sure you’re staying hydrated and keeping cool, because Disney World is HOT today! Main Street Obviously it gets hot in Florida, that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. However, it is extra hot today — we’re talking RECORD BREAKING hot! That’s right, a near record heat has hit Disney World today (May 20th), with a 100-105 degree heat index. If you’re there, you’re probably really feeling it! ©National Weather Report In fact, it’s not only Disney World that is getting hit with near record breaking heat. Orlando has a forecast of 97 degrees, with the record being 96. A record Orlando set way back in 1935 — how crazy is that! Sanford and Leesburg are also close to breaking or matching their records of 95 degrees. Daytona Beach and Melbourne are extremely close to theirs. @EricBurrus via X If you’re at Disney World during this scorcher, make sure you’re taking care of yourself! Take a lot of breaks when you can. Find air-conditioned areas and seek shade when walking around the park. Maybe wait to ride those rides that have long lines in the sun — we’re looking at you Slinky Dog Dash! Slinky Dog Dash line You’ve heard us say this time and time again, but STAY HYDRATED. There are plenty of water bottle refill stations around the park that you can find on the My Disney Experience App. Also, you can ask for cups of ice water at any quick-service restaurant, or any place that sells fountain drinks. The ice water cups are completely free, so no excuses! Free Cups of Water We kind of mentioned this with Slinky Dog, but consider going to indoor attractions during the peak heat hours of the day. Try to avoid lines where you’ll have to wait a decent amount outside. Disney offers a lot of great indoor attractions for you to just sit down for 10-15 minutes in the AC. There are more than 25 uniquely themed Disney Resort hotels at Walt Disney World, each inviting you to immerse yourself in a different world between your adventures throughout the theme parks and beyond. When you stay at Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter, you’re instantly transported to the lively streets of New Orleans. Colorful building facades, grand walkways and lush greenery evoke the feeling of walking through the city’s historic streets. Now, with over a thousand room refurbishments officially completed, there’s even more festive flair for guests to discover at this fan-favorite resort. Enjoy Charming Refurbished Rooms at  French Quarter Throughout each room, colorful fabrics and patterns inspired by the city’s charming architecture bring the lively spirit of “The Big Easy” to life, just like the buildings’ vibrant exteriors. You’ll also notice nods to Mardi Gras celebrations, including artwork featuring those iconic purple, gold and green beads. New portraits add even more character, featuring Princess Tiana, Prince Naveen, Louis and Charlotte La Bouff from “The Princess and the Frog” all dressed in their Mardi Gras best and dancing through the French Quarter in style! Take a close look at the intricate detailing on the bathroom door and mosaic-style pattern above the beds, and you might catch hidden details like Tiana’s sparkling tiara, as well as drums and trumpets — an homage to New Orleans’ jazz roots. The refreshed bathroom is as relaxing as it is functional, offering plenty of storage options and a spacious counter — perfect for those mornings when the family is getting ready before a fun-filled day at the theme parks. Get Transported to New Orleans Outdoors, the theming continues with updated surfaces and vibrant designs throughout the newly refurbished Doubloon Lagoon pool area and Mardi Grogs pool bar, now featuring a brighter, more upscale look with airy blues, black-and-white tiles and wrought iron details. They perfectly weave in those recognizable New Orleans elements while complementing the relaxed poolside vibe. “This resort is all about transporting guests to the heart of New Orleans, and the recent enhancements bring that story to life in exciting new ways,” said Diane Petit, General Manager, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort. “Everything ties back to the charm and culture that our guests love.” Experience All the Resort Has to Offer When you’re not relaxing in these newly reimagined spaces, there’s no shortage of fun to experience around the resort. From taking a spin down the colorful sea serpent waterslide (named Scales!) to catching a movie under the stars, there’s something for everyone. Personally, I love listening to the live jazz music at Scat Cat’s Club – Lounge, taking a stroll along the scenic Sassagoula River, renting bikes or even hopping aboard a boat to Disney Springs – one of the complimentary transportation options available as part of your stay. 27. Just because it’s in Disneyland doesn’t mean it’s magical. Disneyland There are some spots around the resort that sound good on paper—or at least look decent on the app—but once you’ve actually eaten there, it’s a different story. We’re talking overpriced, underwhelming, or just straight-up “why did I waste a reservation on this?” bad. So today, we’re breaking down three Disneyland restaurants the experts, straight-up refuse to book… and a few we’d book again and again. Galactic Grill Galactic Grill in Tomorrowland should be fun. Space-themed burgers? Star Wars-adjacent vibes? Sounds promising. But let’s just say there are other quick service spots around the park that will give you a tastier and more unique experience. Galactic Grill If you’re thinking, “Well, it’s just theme park food,” trust us—you can do better at Disneyland, even at quick service. Save your stomach and your money. For our latest reviews of Galactic Grill — Click Here Wine Country Trattoria Located over in Disney California Adventure, Wine Country Trattoria sounds like a relaxing break from the crowds. It has the wine. It has the ambiance. It has that terrace patio that makes you think you’re about to have a peaceful, Tuscan-inspired meal. Wine Country Trattoria Here’s the deal: It’s not bad. It’s just not the greatest. The pasta is forgettable, the entrees are a tad basic, and nothing on the menu really feels worthy of the price tag. If you’re going to use up one of your precious dining reservations, we say skip the Trattoria and aim for somewhere that actually surprises you—in a good way. For our latest reviews of Wine Country Trattoria — Click Here Naples Ristorante e Bar Yes, it’s one of the more visible dining options in Downtown Disney. And yes, pizza should be a safe bet, especially when you’re traveling with a group. But for some, Naples manages to miss the mark almost every time. Naples Ristorante When Disneyland has so many amazing snacks, treats, and hidden gem meals tucked all over the parks, settling for Naples just feels like giving up. There are better pizzas. There are better pastas. Honestly, there are better vibes literally steps away. For our latest reviews of Wine Country Trattoria — Click Here So Where Do We Book? We’re not here just to complain—we’ve got some favorites, too. If you want to make your dining reservation count, here are a few spots we’d book again in a heartbeat: River Belle Terrace – This spot in Frontierland is one of our go-to’s for solid comfort food, great views, and a chill atmosphere that’s hard to beat. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar – Yes, it’s popular for a reason. The drinks are strong, the snacks are underrated, and the theming? Next-level fun. It’s a whole experience, and we always recommend carving out some time for it. Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar Bottom line: you don’t have to settle. With so many genuinely great places to eat around Disneyland, don’t waste your time—or your appetite—on the ones that never hit the mark.
