  2. We’ve got a sneak peek behind one of the spaces you’ll find onboard the Disney Destiny ship! The Disney Destiny | ©Disney Disney Cruise Line’s next ship, the Disney Destiny, has had us talking since its initial announcement. Now that we’ve gotten a taste of what we can anticipate finding on board, a few of the merch collections exclusive to the ship, and even a look at some of the entertainment we’ll see! The ship is getting closer to being completed, and Disney’s offering us a behind-the-scenes look at one particular space. Disney Cruise Line is hard at work crafting one of the spaces we see ourselves using most on their newest ship, the Disney Destiny. Café Megara will be one of two new walk-up cafes just off the Grand Hall, and Disney’s giving us a behind-the-scenes look at how Walt Disney Imagineering is drawing inspiration from the animated classic, Hercules to create a venue fit for the gods. The café is named after the heroine in Hercules’ story, Megara, or Meg for short! ©Disney Each design detail in Café Megara is handpicked by Imagineers to create a vibrant lounge with nods to the ancient world of Greek mythology and legendary heroes. Everything from the barstool and lounge chair fabrics to the accent wall tiles will feature a color palette inspired by both Megara and Pegasus, and will incorporate hues of purples and blues. ©Disney In the sneak peek that Disney posted, we see a little bit of this styling in action. Walt Disney Imagineers Beth Burkhardt and Rachel Willcoxon are pictured reviewing textile samples that will come together to give the feeling of being at Mount Olympus, including details like a custom cloud-like carpet pattern and wallpaper with hidden designs of Pegasus in the clouds. ©Disney As Imagineers grow closer to finalizing their selections based on the layout of the café and its film inspiration, the shipyard team will be able to move forward in transforming the rest of the Disney Destiny ship into its hero (or villain) era, depending on where you’re standing! We love it when we get a chance at a peek into what Disney Imagineers are working on before it’s final stages. We’ll continue to watch for future updates with Disney Cruise Line about the Disney Destiny as it nears completion. Be sure to stay tuned with us right here at DFB so you don’t miss a thing! 3. The final menu for the Farmers Feast booth at EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival is HERE! 2025 Farmers Feast The Summer Solstice menu introduces three new eats to this spot, and we were hoping they’d be just as good as their descriptions sounded. We’re happy to report that we certainly weren’t disappointed! Let’s start with dessert, because there are no rules here! The Peach Cobbler is available for $4.75 and is served with cinnamon gelato and streusel topping. We really loved that the ice cream here was more of a “vanilla with cinnamon” taste rather than straight cinnamon. The peach cobbler itself was served warm, which was the perfect combination, and all the textures worked very well together, too. We also loved that it wasn’t too overly sweet, which is impressive for a treat like this! Peach Cobbler Next up was the Grilled Beef Strip Loin for $8.50, which is served with tomato risotto featuring BEN’S ORIGINAL INTERNATIONAL GRAINS Arborio Rice, tomato-beurre blanc, and basil pesto. The rice base here is extremely creamy, which we adored, and the steak was tender and cooked to perfection — just a little pink on the inside, which was perfect for us. There’s also a hint of sweetness on the back of your tongue thanks to the tomatoes. Honestly, it tastes like summer to us, and we couldn’t get enough; we’d get this time and time again! Grilled Beef Strip Loin Finally, it was time for the Heirloom Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella for $5, and this is what convinced us that we’ve been SLEEPING on this booth! The tomatoes were perfectly ripe and had a fantastic texture. While we do wish there was a little more mozzarella personally, that may have just been our reporter’s preference. The popping pearls of balsamic vinaigrette were fantastic, making this dish as a whole acidic, bright, and on the saltier side, which we appreciated. Heirloom Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella Overall, we highly recommend this new menu and think EVERYONE should go give it a try! Don’t forget, though, that CommuniCore Hall, where this booth is located, is closing for a makeover this month, so these offerings will move to the Florida Fresh booth outside! 4. Some restaurants are true winners in Disney World, and others are far from it. Pizzafari For as long as we can remember, we haven’t recommended eating at Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom unless you’re looking for puffy pizza specifically, or you’ve got a picky group and need something simple to appease everyone. Otherwise, we typically stay far away from this generic spot, but something wild happened on our last visit — we grabbed three items that actually had us VERY impressed! To drink we grabbed the iconic Island Treasure for $6.29, which is a slush drink that has layers of Mango and Strawberry Slushy. The strawberry flavor is most prominent here, but we didn’t mind that! The two flavors mix very well together, and it’s extremely refreshing. We do recommend eating this with a spoon though, because the paper straws served here do often fall apart pretty quickly. Island Treasure Our main event was the Cheese Garlic Bread for $6.99, which comes with 3 pieces, but we also grabbed the Tomato Bisque Soup to dip it in for $5.79. While the cheese is only on one side, it’s also almost broiled into the bread, which we loved. It was brilliantly chewy and soft — cooked just enough so the cheese fully melted, but not too much that it got hard to eat! Cheese Garlic Bread! As for the Tomato Bisque Soup, this is SO much better than other versions you can get around the resort. It was a hearty portion, had a great flavor, and wasn’t too watery, which is sometimes an issue we’ve run into. We really loved it! SO good! If you’re heading into Pizzafari and want something that you know will be delicious, we highly recommend these items, which is something we never thought we’d say. More Recent Reviews! 6. New Entry Gates Welcome Guests to Disneyland Resort Upgrades to park entry gates across Disneyland Resort are being introduced Upon entering, guests will scan their tickets and take their photos at the entrance gates with a theme park reservation and a valid ticket Automated gates and an updated entry process welcomes guests to both Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park For so many guests, it’s a rite of passage to head through the entry gates of Disneyland park for the first time, allowing them to enter a world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy in a truly unforgettable moment that they will always remember. Yet the next step once you pass through those gates is up to you as you enter this ultimate family destination, whether you’re looking to board a classic attraction like Haunted Mansion, snack on a legendary Disney treat or pose for a picture in front of an iconic location like Sleeping Beauty Castle. Whether you’re a Southern California local, visiting from out-of-town or staying at one of the three Hotels of the Disneyland Resort, we’re sure you can’t wait to enter the parks as quickly as possible. If you’ve been wondering about the easiest ways to enter The Happiest Place on Earth, we’ve got plenty of answers about the upgrades to the entry gates at the entrances for Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. Where Can I Find the Entry Turnstiles at the Resort? Located at the main entrance to both Disneyland and California Adventure, you can enter the parks through the esplanade located between both theme parks. You may be used to seeing turnstiles located at these entry points over the years but will be delighted to see modernized new entry gates! Pro Tip: Select guests with valid theme park admission can also skip the main entrances by entering at three other locations: Aboard the Disneyland Monorail via Downtown Disney District station: Guests with a valid park admission or Magic Key pass and reservation to Disneyland park can travel straight to Tomorrowland on this highway in the sky. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa: Hotel guests at the Disneyland Resort can soon discover Disney California Adventure by entering the park near Grizzly Peak with a valid park admission or Magic Key pass and reservation to Disney California Adventure park. Near Pixar Place Hotel: 30 minutes prior to park opening until 12 p.m. PST, hotel guests at the Disneyland Resort can enter Disney California Adventure by entering the park near Goofy’s Sky School with a valid park admission or Magic Key pass and reservation to Disney California Adventure park. How Do I Use the New Entry Gates at Disneyland? Once you’re ready to start the fun, head over to the entrance gate of your choice. Every gate is ADA compliant, allowing all guests with ECVs, wheelchairs and strollers to use and pass through them with ease! Step 1: To enter each park, you will scan each ticket using screens present at individual entry gates. Step 2: Once each ticket is scanned, every guest in your group will then use the screen to take their own picture by pressing the camera icon on the screen to capture your photo. And don’t worry about the kids: each entry gate is equipped with camera technology that will automatically adjust to each guest’s height while you are snapping the photo! Step 3: Once your ticket is scanned and the photo is digitally attached to your ticket, the entry gates will automatically swing open for your party to head into the park together. What is the Entry Process Like? Many guests want to kick off their early morning at the resort by quickly scanning their tickets at the entrance gates so they can pick up their food and beverages they mobile ordered from Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe or head toward a popular attraction like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. At each entrance gate, you will be able to scan your tickets and take your own pictures to attach to your tickets. If you have a multi-day ticket or a Magic Key pass, you will only have to take your picture linked to your ticket one time, making this process smooth for returning guests! While this new process allows guests to scan their tickets by themselves, a nearby cast member will also be there to help so you can get to your next ride or make your lunch reservation in time. What is New About This Entry Experience? These updates at the entryways to Disneyland and California Adventure aim to improve the arrival experience with even more gates than before. While a cast member will still be present at the park entrances to validate tickets and photos and welcome guests to the resort, newly accessible gates will open automatically after you scan your ticket and take a photo, including for guests with ECVs, wheelchairs and strollers. The updated entry gates will also have an access point to tap your MagicBand+, allowing for easy and hands-free access. How Does My Toddler Enter the Parks? All guests under the age of 3 do not need a valid admission ticket or theme park reservation to enter either park, though all guests ages 3 years old and above must have both. Guests over the age of 3 will follow the same process of scanning and capturing a photo when entering, with an adult’s help of course! And there’s plenty to do with your little one at both theme parks once you pass through the entry gates – make sure to hop on a kid-friendly ride like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Mickey’s Toontown, catch “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!” when it debuts on May 16 or dance and play at the Fantasyland Theatre with Pixar Pals Playtime Party when it returns for a limited time beginning May 23! Can I Use the Disneyland App or MagicBand+ to Enter? Of course! Once you’ve purchased your tickets and made your theme park reservation, open the Disneyland app* and select the menu (the three horizontal lines in the bottom right of the navigation bar). Then, once you tap “My Tickets and Passes” and load your tickets to the app by selecting “Link Tickets & Passes,” you’ll be all set to head toward the entry gates to scan your tickets and enter the park. Feel free to use the Disneyland app or tap your MagicBand+ to the access points to enter! With additional planning tools, exclusive content and park updates including ride wait times and showtimes, the Disneyland app is your new best friend when visiting the resort over the course of your stay. Are There Any Disney-Inspired Features? There are! Each entry gate features animated clips of beloved characters welcoming and eventually bidding farewell to guests upon entering and exiting, with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit at California Adventure! How Do I Re-Enter the Parks? Whether you’re trying to catch the dazzling nighttime return of the upcoming “Paint the Night” parade in Disneyland park or looking to take in the sights and sounds of “World of Color Happiness!” in Disney California Adventure park, the process remains the same for all guests when re-entering the parks with a theme park reservation and a valid ticket for the same day. Just scan your admission media and come on in! What Else is Coming to Disneyland Resort? The Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration is right around the corner beginning May 16, with limited-time entertainment, colorful décor, themed food and beverages, collectible merchandise and so much more! 7. A new lounge is coming to EPCOT, and details about its rules are rolling in. EPCOT GEO-82 Bar & Lounge — a Spaceship Earth-themed lounge — is opening in EPCOT on June 4th, 2025, and we can’t wait to visit! So far, we know about some of the food and beverage offerings the lounge will serve, as well as the rule that NO ONE UNDER 21 WILL BE ALLOWED IN. Disney also recently revealed a key detail that will make guests who use the Disney Dining Plan a bit upset. The newest lounge to grace Disney World, GEO-82 will be a 21+ bar that serves “global flavors blended with culinary artistry in classic cocktails and small plates.” The new lounge will offer specialty cocktails like the Brown Butter Old Fashioned (made with brown butter-infused bourbon), the Clarified New York Sour, and zero-proof cocktails like the Manhattan in the Morning, along with other “world-class wines and spirits, and a classic assortment of beers.” ©Disney As for eats, the lounge has teased items “like the Truffled Ahi Tuna and the Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau“, as well as other small plates. ©Disney Unfortunately, if you want to experience any of these offerings with the Disney Dining Plan, you’re out of luck. According to Disney, GEO-82 will NOT accept Dining Plan meal credits. Disney Dining Plan While dining plan credits can be used at several Disney World bars and lounges, GEO-82 won’t be one of them — at least not initially. ©Disney There are two dining plans: The Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan and the Disney Dining Plan. The plans include: Disney Quick Service Dining Plan 2 Quick-Service Meals (per night of stay) 1 Snack/Nonalcoholic Drink (per night of stay) 1 Resort-Refillable Drink Mug Disney Dining Plan 1 Quick-Service Meal (per night of stay) 1 Table-Service Meal (per night of stay) 1 Snack/Nonalcoholic Drink (per night of stay) 1 Resort-Refillable Drink Mug EPCOT! But exactly how MUCH have ticket prices gone up? We have all the data right here. 9. It might not be the first sign of Halloween 2025, but it’s an early one, for sure. SeaWorld Orlando has announced a limited-time sale on one-day tickets to its Howl-O-Scream event, which begins September 5. The deal — Howl-O-Scream admission for $39.99 when buying two or more tickets — ends May 11. The tickets are good for any Howl-O-Scream event night; there are no blockout dates. SeaWorld’s website posts the regular Howl-O-Scream price as $122.99. It’s also selling an unlimited admission ticket for $116.99 (down from $192.99, according to the site). Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, SeaWorld’s sister park, is offering a similar Howl-O-Scream special. It will mark the fifth year for the event at SeaWorld. The running Sirens theme of previous years was wrapped up with the “Last Call” theme of 2024, and a news release from the park indicates “all-new frights, twists and terrifying experiences” without sharing specifics. There will be five haunted houses, six scare zones, two roaming hordes, live shows and “never-before-seen surprises,” SeaWorld says. Howl-O-Scream will be held 28 select nights between Sept. 5 and November 1. SeaWorld Spooktacular, the park’s daytime, family-friendly Halloween event, will be held on select dates between August 30 and November 2. Walt Disney World has not yet announced the dates for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, its after-hours event at Magic Kingdom. That event typically starts in mid-August. Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights begins Aug. 29. For more Howl-O-Scream information or tickets, go to seaworldorlando.com. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. 10. Good news! A fan-favorite Disney World perk is coming back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom! Disney’s Animal Kingdom Animal Kingdom is one of — if not the most — unique Disney Parks in the world. Offering plenty of fun attractions and close looks at real exotic animals, we can’t recommend this theme park enough. With that said, there is one caveat — at least where the general public is concerned — that will be slightly alleviated this summer thanks to a returning perk! One of the biggest gripes about Animal Kingdom is that it usually closes pretty early. This is primarily due to the fact that it’s a zoo full of animals that require rest, care, and quiet hours. However, guests trying to squeeze just a little more time in Animal Kingdom this summer are in luck, as the park is bringing back Extended Evening Hours! An evening in Animal Kingdom According to multiple reports and the official Walt Disney World calendar, Extended Evening Hours of 6 PM to 8 PM are coming to Animal Kingdom starting Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025. Tree of Life Extended Evening Hours are offered only on select nights, so don’t plan on staying late at Animal Kingdom every night of your visit. This perk is offered to folks staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort, and other select hotels. This perk is offered at the other Disney World theme parks, as well, and is confirmed to continue through 2026. To fully maximize your time, you can combine Extended Evening Hours with the Early Theme Park Entry benefit! 11. Typhoon Lagoon is BACK! This Disney World water park officially reopened on May 1st, 2025, after being closed for refurbishment since November 2024. Of course, we were there on its opening day to check everything out — and try LOTS of food! Typhoon Lagoon We had some fun in the sun while trying various food items at Typhoon Lagoon. From Pork Elote Nachos to a Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae, we are rounding up everything we tried and letting you know if it is worth your money at Typhoon Lagoon or not! Typhoon Lagoon is one of two water parks at Disney World. The other water park is Blizzard Beach. In the past few years, they have been switching off being open. While Blizzard Beach is closed for refurbishment, something VERY exciting is happening on May 21st. Beginning May 21st, BOTH Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will be open at the same time through September 7th, 2025. Typhoon Lagoon However, we are here to talk about the FOOD at Typhoon Lagoon, so let’s dive in! To start, we are heading over to Lowtide Lou’s to try the Barbecue Chicken Wrap for $9.79. This wrap is a grab and go situation, so it is prepared ahead of time and sitting on ice ready to be picked up. Barbecue Chicken Wrap Overall, it is about what you would expect from a grab and go wrap. The chicken was fried chicken strips that were crispy. There was also some lettuce inside the wrap, and it was topped with a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. The sauce is definitely on the sweeter side, but it still has a bit of barbecue twang. This wasn’t anything special, but if you are looking for something that is quick to grab and you can walk with, this could be a great option. However, we think there are better options that are just a few dollars more, and provide a more well rounded meal. Barbecue Chicken Wrap Next up, we are headed to the Snack Shack to grab an ICONIC treat: the Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae. You can grab this treat for $15.99, and it is actually served in a mini bathtub! This sundae is made with Dole Whip pineapple, strawberry, and orange. Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae We think this is such a fun treat, but fair warning that it is just Dole Whip and popping boba pearls, so it isn’t like a decadent sundae with whipped cream, cherries, and sauce. However, it is a surprisingly fun way to enjoy some Dole Whip, and the sundae features three different flavors: pineapple, strawberry, and orange. Plus, you also get a small souvenir bathtub to take home with you. Dole Whip Bathtub Sundae Now, let’s make our way over to Hammerhead Fred’s Bait Shop to try the Captain’s Mai Tai for $16.50. The drink is made with Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, Bols Amaretto Liqueur, and tropical juices, tipped with a float of Myer’s Original Dark Rum. Captain’s Mai Tai You will definitely want to be a rum drinker to enjoy this Mai Tai. It is heavy on the rum flavor, especially with the float of dark rum on top. Plus, the spiced rum in the drink is a strong flavor. The spices from the rum make this drink taste like Christmas in your mouth. We also tasted lots of pineapple flavor in this one, but this drink is not for the faint of heart. It is a strong one, with lots of rum flavor! Captain’s Mai Tai We aren’t done yet, though! Next, we headed over to Happy Landings Ice Cream to grab the Pineapple Upside-down Cone for $6.99. This treat features Dole Whip pineapple and vanilla soft-serve, caramel sauce, vanilla cake, caramelized pineapple, and a cherry served under a white chocolate-dipped cone. Pineapple Upside-down Cone This is an inventive take on the pineapple upside-down cake, and we really enjoyed it. The cone wasn’t entirely necessary, but it does add some visual appeal with the green sprinkles on it. The treat has caramel sauce on the bottom with pineapple tidbits that have a little extra juice to them. Combined with the vanilla cake and pineapple and vanilla soft serve, this really does taste like a pineapple upside-down cake. Pineapple Upside-down Cone Let’s keep the Typhoon Lagoon party going with a stop at Leaning Palms for some Pork Elote Nachos. You can get these for $12.49. These nachos contain roasted pork over nacho chips with elote cheese sauce, guacamole, sour cream, roasted corn, jalapeños, and Pico de Gallo. While these nachos were enjoyable, they weren’t anything that knocked our socks off and we would likely try something else next time. Pork Elote Nachos They are on the heavier side, which could be a great option if you have been swimming all day and really need some fuel. It is also definitely possible to share these with someone else! The nachos are made with the fiesta style tortilla chips that are different colors, and we did get the elote flavor they were going for with the toppings. One big advantage of Leaning Palms and Typhoon Tilly’s is that you can place a Mobile Order and skip having to stand in line! Pork Elote Nachos Finally, we are rounding out our food adventure with a stop at Typhoon Tilly’s for the Tropical Salad. This salad costs $9.99 and features assorted greens with tomatoes, cucumber, mango, pineapple, red pepper hummus, and chickpeas served with tropical vinaigrette. Tropical Salad We were definitely getting the tropical flavors from this salad! The fresh pineapple and mango, along with the mango vinaigrette were wonderful. Plus, you also get a look of other fresh veggies including tomatoes and cucumbers. You can also get this salad with chicken if you are looking to make it a bit heftier of a meal, but overall, we really enjoyed this salad. It was filling without feeling heavy, and we loved the tropical flavors. Tropical Salad Overall, we had a great day of trying some of the food at Typhoon Lagoon. Our favorites included the Pineapple Upside-down Cone, Tropical Salad, and Captain’s Mai Tai. And it is also pretty hard to beat eating Dole Whip from a bathtub. We are super excited that Typhoon Lagoon is open again, and soon BOTH water parks will be open at the same time. 12. French fry lovers, it’s happening — Chili’s is coming for the fry crown. ©Chili’s We just got word that Chili’s has made a BIG change to their French fries — and it’s not just some boring behind-the-scenes kitchen tweak. They’ve seriously upgraded one of the most crucial parts of any burger-and-fries experience, and it’s all about making sure those golden beauties come out hot, crispy, and actually seasoned. We’ve got all the juicy details on what’s changing (and why it matters), so let’s break it down. So, what’s going on with the fries? If you’re like us, the first thing you grab when a burger lands in front of you is a French fry, and apparently, Chili’s CEO Kevin Hochman knows this too, because he and his team went deep into fry optimization mode. His exact words? “We spent a lot of time making sure that our fries were properly cooked.” And honestly… respect. ©Chili’s Turns out, Chili’s added 30 extra seconds to their fry cook time. Doesn’t sound like much, but that little change makes a big difference — the fries come out hotter and crispier than ever. That’s a win. But that’s not even the biggest update. The real game-changer are the new seasoning shakers. The old ones were slow and inefficient — staff had to shake them 30 times just to get enough flavor on the fries. That meant fries were getting cold before they were even fully seasoned. Total buzzkill. ©Chili’s Now, Chili’s uses new shakers with larger holes, so you only need 6 to 10 shakes to get that same flavor level. The result: fries come out fast, hot, and perfectly seasoned. No more lukewarm, under-seasoned sadness on your plate. This is just one part of a bigger glow-up for Chili’s. Now, let’s talk burgers — because what’s a fry without a burger? Enter: the Big Smasher Burger. This thing is a monster — it has twice the beef of a Big Mac, plus all the good stuff like cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, and special sauce. And yes, they even upgraded the pickles. ©Chili’s It’s not just big — it’s good. Hochman himself says it’s his favorite menu item, especially when paired with a Presidente Margarita. We wouldn’t argue with that combo. So… should you go try the new fries? Yes. Yes, you absolutely should. If you’ve been sleeping on Chili’s lately, this is your sign to stop by, order a Big Smasher combo, and start with the fries. They’re crispier, hotter, and way better seasoned — the kind of fries you finish before you even touch your burger. You know the ones. ©Chili’s Chili’s is doing what a lot of fast-casual places should be doing right now: making the food better and keeping it affordable. And if that means rethinking how we season fries or which pickles go on burgers, so be it. We’ll take a properly seasoned fry over an overpriced fast food combo any day. 13. Next week marks an important event that could help shape the future of Disney+! ©Disney Disney has made ambitious strides over the past few years in continuing to add value to its streaming service. With Disney making good on their promises to crack down on password sharing and adding options for bundles with other popular brands like Hulu, MAX, and ESPN, we’re learning quickly that Disney+ and its success appear to be a huge focus for the company. Soon, though, an annual event could give us even more clues as to other changes that could be coming for Disney+ in the near future. Deadline recently reported that a huge event is underway in New York, and it could have a lasting effect on some of Disney’s media services. This annual springtime event, known as Upfronts and its more recently formed NewFront, kicks off its preliminary events in April and continues into May each year. This entire event is designed to allow the “glitzy pitches” from media companies looking for press attention and to capture advertiser interest. ©Noam Galai/Getty Images for Snap Inc. via Deadline So far, Upfronts has already started their lineup with a host of happenings, but the bulk of its main events will fall between May 5th through May 14th. In years past, we’ve seen notable companies like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, CBS, Paramount, and Viacom all take the stage for elaborate pitches, hoping to catch the eye of ad investors who share their companies’ visions. However, under economic uncertainty and recent tariffs implemented in the U.S., we might see more of these big industry names consider tapering down their ad pitches and strategies in favor of simpler presentations and client dinners. ©Disney Some of these bigger names stepping out of the spotlight have paved the way for up-and-coming companies that might not have gotten the opportunity otherwise. All of that to say that we could see some smoking hot attention on sizzle reels during these presentations, highlighting the best of what each company has to offer its potential buyers, which could lead to a few clues of where they’re headed soon, like The Walt Disney Company. The Walt Disney Company If you’re curious as to how the lineup will fall for the upcoming heavy hitters, let’s take a closer look. Interestingly, Disney is scheduled to present on May 13th at 4 PM, which is a full day behind NBCUniversal, FOX, and Amazon, as well as just before the tech giants of Warner Bros., Netflix, and YouTube Brandcast, all of which will conclude the event. ©Disney We’re eager to see what we might learn from Disney’s pitch to potential ad buyers for its streaming platform (it’s actually how we learned season 2 of Loki was on its way early on), and see just how they plan to outshine competing companies. 14. We’ve got fantastic news for those of you who often drive to Disney World! Welcome to Disney World! If you’ve made that drive even just once, you likely ran into some pretty intense traffic on I-4. This shaves off tons of time getting to your destination as long as you DON’T hit traffic, which is pretty common. However, a change has just been completed on the road that will help alleviate traffic in a pretty big section! According to the Orlando Sentinel, two new lanes have just been opened on a six mile section of I-4. This means that in that section, there are now FOUR lanes each direction instead of three. These “congestion relief” lanes run from east of U.S. 27 in Polk County to World Drive near Disney Springs. ©Brooks Law Group These new lanes are open to ALL drivers, not just those who need to pay a toll. Citizens who often travel on these roads have already started to share that this change has shaved tons of time of their daily commute, as much as 20-30 minutes in some cases! The project was completed eight months AHEAD of the original schedule and “signifies the start of a larger $2.5 billion project that aims to add express lanes, widen shoulders and improve interchanges on I-4.” ©Florida Department of Transportation While the new lanes will not be expanded throughout more sections of I-4, even after the larger project is complete, a “pay-as-you-go” toll road will be added in the future stretching from these current lanes to the express lanes available right now from Kirkman Road in Orange County into Seminole County. Eventually, at the project’s completion, there will be a 21 mile stretch of road where commuters can choose to pay the toll to skip the worst of the traffic. ©PIRG We’re really looking forward to seeing these changes, and in particular how they can help commuters reach their destinations (such as Disney World!) faster, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news and updates. 16. REAL ID is officially rolling out, and it’s got a lot of people asking, “Wait… do I need that for my cruise too?” Disney Wish Spoiler: not exactly, but it does matter depending on how you’re getting to the port. In this quick guide, we’re breaking down what REAL ID is, who needs it, and how it affects your plans if you’re setting sail with Disney Cruise Line. Let’s clear up the confusion right now. What Is REAL ID and Why Should You Care? The REAL ID Act was passed way back in 2005 to standardize IDs across the U.S. Basically, after 9/11, the government wanted stricter ID rules for things like airport security and federal buildings. Fast forward to now, and starting May 7, 2025, all travelers 18 and up will need a REAL ID to fly domestically—unless you have a valid passport or other TSA-approved identification. ©DHS.gov Not sure if your driver’s license is REAL ID compliant? Look for the gold star in the top right corner. If it’s there, you’re good. If it’s not, and you don’t have a passport, you’ll need to take care of that before your cruise flight rolls around. Do You Need a REAL ID for a Disney Cruise? Short answer: Nope. Disney Cruise Line does not require a REAL ID to board. They’re focused on verifying citizenship, not whether your ID has a gold star. But here’s the catch—if you’re flying to Port Canaveral or Fort Lauderdale to get on that ship, the airport will require REAL ID-compliant identification (or a passport). The Disney Treasure So while Disney isn’t checking for it, TSA definitely is. So What ID Do You Actually Need for a Disney Cruise? It depends on where you’re going and what kind of cruise you’re on: Best option: A passport. It works for air, land, and sea travel, and makes everything smoother—especially if you miss the ship or need to fly home unexpectedly from a foreign port. Acceptable for closed-loop cruises (leave and return to the same U.S. port): Government-issued photo ID (like a driver’s license) PLUS one of the following: Original U.S. birth certificate U.S. Certificate of Naturalization U.S. Consular Birth Abroad Certificate Disney Magic Cruise Ship If you’re going somewhere international, you’ll absolutely need a passport, and maybe even a visa depending on the country. Also worth noting: if you have a passport card, it’s only valid for land and sea crossings—not for flying. So that won’t help at the airport. What Happens If You Show Up at the Airport Without a REAL ID or Passport? You’re in for a headache—or worse. Starting in May 2025, TSA will not let you through security with just a standard driver’s license. If you don’t have a REAL ID or passport, expect delays, extra screening, and the possibility that you won’t be allowed to fly at all. That’s not a great start to your dream Disney cruise. MCO Airport How to Get a REAL ID in Florida (If You Need One) If you’re in Florida and your license doesn’t already have that gold star, here’s what to do: You have to go in person to a driver’s license service center or tax collector office. You’ll need original documents proving your identity, legal status, Social Security number, and proof of Florida residency. A new REAL ID-compliant license costs about $48, plus a small service fee at most offices. ©FLHSMV.gov Important: you can’t get a REAL ID online in Florida if it’s your first time or your name has changed. Plan ahead, because these appointments can book up fast. Bottom Line Disney Cruise Line doesn’t require a REAL ID—but if you’re flying to your port, TSA sure does. That means even if your cruise documents are good, your airport experience could come to a halt if your ID isn’t compliant. A passport is the easiest all-in-one solution, but if you’re sticking with a driver’s license, make sure it has that star before May 7, 2025. Discovery, Paramount, and Lionsgate Studios, all saw a decline as the stock market opened on Monday. These declines come as a result of President Trump vowing to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films. On Monday morning, May 5th, numerous entertainment companies saw their stock fall as Trump announced his intention to impose a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films. Disney saw a decline of 2.4% in its stock price. Netflix saw a 3.3% decline, Warner Bros. Discovery saw a 4.2% decline, Paramount declined by 2.2%, and Lionsgate fell more than 7% as the stock market opened. Walt Disney Company Headquarters in Burbank However, while stocks saw a significant decline at market opening this morning, many unanswered questions remain about President Trump’s newest set of tariffs. President Trump has authorized the “Commerce Department and the U.S. Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.” It is unclear, though, exactly what will constitute a movie that is “produced in Foreign Lands” and how those tariffs would be assessed. Currently, movies are usually written, produced, filmed, and edited in a variety of countries, so what would determine if a movie is foreign-produced? ©Disney We also don’t know yet if these tariffs would also extend to TV productions. Currently, we only have the one social media post made by President Trump on Truth Social to understand these tariffs. These tariffs could have a huge impact on the movie industry, depending on how and if they are implemented. According to the Motion Picture Association, in 2023, the “American movie industry had $22.6 billion in exports and an overall $15.3 billion trade surplus.” The Walt Disney Company We will continue to monitor the impact these tariffs might have on Disney and other movie studios. 22. It’s May, which means I’m thinking about all things Star Wars (okay, granted, I’m always thinking about Star Wars). Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run But May the 4th has just passed and I just spent some time in Disneyland celebrating Season of the Force and hanging out at Star Wars Nite. That included a ride (or two) on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (y’all, those controls are SO wonky), but if you missed it, something NEW is coming to that ride in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World. Now, I’ve noticed that Disney’s Imagineers have hidden a KEY detail for the new version of that ride. Disney recently revealed that an all-new mission is coming to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run to celebrate the release of the upcoming Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu on May 22nd, 2026 (and that’s when the changes are coming to the ride). Not only that, but Disney also revealed new concept art showing NEW locations you’d get to CHOOSE FROM when you ride the attraction, including Bespin, Tatooine, the ruins of the Death Star (I am STOKED), Coruscant, Beggar’s Canyon, and more! ©Disney However, one of those pieces of concept art included a loading dock on Cloud City, and I IMMEDIATELY spotted something very familiar. ©Disney Do you see it? Let’s zoom in…it’s a Starspeeder from Star Tours! Say what? Yep, it looks like you might even see a Starspeeder on the new Millennium Falcon mission. ©Disney On the new version of the ride, Hondo Ohnaka just found out about a deal on Tatooine between ex-Imperial officers and some pirates, and, yep, there’s a good bounty for their capture. So the mission is to “borrow” the Millennium Falcon and team up with the Mandalorian and Grogu to track them down. FUN. However, you and your Falcon crew will get to be in control of the destination, so you can choose where the Falcon goes on the mission. Even better? The engineer gets to communicate with Grogu (he’ll probably just be demanding cookies or frogs or something). ©Disney Anyway, it sounds like it’s going to be a wild ride and I think these changes will make the Millennium Falcon ride even better. Considering the engineer doesn’t have a lot to do on the ride right now, giving them the ability to communicate with Baby Yoda is also a nice bonus. See you in Batuu on May 22nd, 2026, because I’ll be first in line if I can checking out the new version of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run! Stay tuned to DFB for more. 24. BOWIE, Md. (AP) — After more than a quarter century of thrills and fun, Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., will close at the end of this season. The approximately 500-acre property in Bowie will be marketed for redevelopment, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced Thursday. As part of a portfolio review, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based company determined that the parks “are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” Six Flags President and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman said in a statement. The final day of operations will be Nov. 2. “Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor have been an important part of the local community, and this final season will be an opportunity to celebrate the decades of fun that guests have enjoyed at the property,” Zimmerman said. Six Flags America employs about 70 full-time associates, and severance and other benefits will be provided to eligible associates, the company said. A wildlife preserve that operated on the site in the 1970s later became an amusement park, The Washington Post reports. It opened as Six Flags America in 1999, according to a company spokesperson. The park features many attractions and rides, including nine roller coasters. The Wild One is one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the country, the spokesperson said. Acting Prince George’s County Executive Tara H. Jackson lamented the loss of the parks. “For decades, Six Flags has been more than just a theme park—it is a cherished part of our county’s identity, a source of joy for families, and a hub of economic activity,” Jackson said in a statement. “We are committed to working closely with Six Flags and other stakeholders to guide a thoughtful and inclusive redevelopment process that supports jobs, growth and long-term community benefit.” View the full article
  25. Walt Disney World is offering discounted theme park tickets to Florida residents through the summer and into late September. The four-day Summer Magic Ticket goes on sale Tuesday and averages out to be $60 a day. The ticket is valid from May 18 through Sept. 27. There are no block-out dates, but park reservations are required. The park visits can be on non-consecutive days. The base four-day ticket, which sells for $240, is good for a single park per day, although a park-hopper option — allowing movement between Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom — can be added for $40 per ticket. There also are optional add-ons for water parks, golf courses and miniature golf courses. Disney also is offering three-day and two-day versions of the ticket for $225 and $210, respectively. Adult ticket holders are required to show proof of Florida residency at the theme park entrance. The summer ticket serves as a continuation of an existing Disney deal that has run from mid-January through May 23. Upcoming summer developments at Disney World parks include the debut of two stage shows — “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” and “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” — debut at Hollywood Studios on May 27. Epcot’s GEO-82, a lounge inside Spaceship Earth, opens June 4, and the updated version of the park’s Test Track attraction is expected to roll out in late summer. A new nighttime parade called “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” is scheduled for a summer debut, but an opening date has not been announced. Disney also is rolling out smaller events in the parks under the Cool Kids Summer theme, including Goofy interactions at Epcot’s CommuniCore Hall and new activities at Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Animal Kingdom. They’ll be in place May 27 through September 1. For tickets and more details, go to disneyworld.com. Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. BlueSky: @themeparksdb. Threads account: @dbevil.
