  2. Hundreds of students across the Caribbean are exploring maritime and hospitality careers in new and exciting ways as part of Disney Cruise Line’s Treasure Tomorrow program. The cruise line launched the initiative to expand its commitment to creating lasting, positive impacts in the port communities it calls home throughout the Caribbean and supports career exploration programs for students in each port the Disney Treasure visits. “Disney Cruise Line is proud to invest in youth programming that positively impacts the Caribbean communities we visit all year long,” said Joey Gaskins, Regional Public Affairs Director, The Bahamas and Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line. “We believe empowering young minds today builds a more resilient tomorrow, driving innovation and opportunity for generations to come.” Empowering youth in Tortola Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) is a nonprofit that engages students from high schools across the British Virgin Islands in community-based mentoring, employment readiness and enrichment programs. YEP’s Learning, Earning and Advancing Dreams (LEAD) workforce program provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about careers in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. While the Disney Treasure was recently docked in Tortola, high school students from YEP boarded the ship to meet Disney crew members and officers and learn about their career paths and roles on board. One of the students, Khala Mathavious said, “I appreciate this experience. It was really educational and beneficial to understand how many teams it takes to operate a cruise ship.” During the ship tour, some of the LEAD students expressed interest in becoming a ship captain, like the Disney Treasure’s Captain Marco Nogara, who visited the students and shared his experiences as a ship captain and gave insights about the maritime industry. Meanwhile, the ship’s Executive Chef, Goran Milinic, brought the students on a behind-the-scenes galley tour at Plaza de Coco, one of rotational dining restaurants aboard. Student Rhianna James said, “I couldn’t believe the head chef of the whole cruise spoke with us about how the team works together to serve guests and how many meals are prepared each day. It was an inspiring experience, and I am very grateful for this opportunity.” Throughout the day, the students met shipboard leaders in a variety of roles, including human resources, merchandise, food and beverage and entertainment. Encouraging student entrepreneurship in Falmouth and Grand Cayman Junior Achievement teaches students about business principles by helping them connect what they learn in school with life outside the classroom. As part of Treasure Tomorrow, Disney Cruise Line is sponsoring a Junior Achievement career exploration program focused on different aspects of maritime and hospitality business. In Georgetown, Grand Cayman, students boarded the Disney Treasure earlier this month to learn firsthand from Disney cast and crew members about careers in the maritime, creative and entertainment industries. During their time on board, the students met Chief Security Officer Ryan Miller, who explained how Disney Cruise Line and ports from around the world work together to create a safe, seamless and enjoyable experience for guests. Assistant Cruise Director David Hunt also joined the students to talk about his career path. “It means a lot to me to share my journey and experiences with students who are interested in pursuing a career at sea. Before I joined Disney Cruise Line, I didn’t know about all of the incredible opportunities available to me, so being able to help guide and advise the next generation is exciting,” Hunt said. Throughout the school year, Disney Cruise Line partnered with Junior Achievement Jamaica to host weekly virtual sessions for high school students showcasing a variety of shipboard and shoreside roles on the Disney Treasure. Following the virtual sessions, the students embarked on a special day aboard the ship and met with the Disney crew members they had been learning from virtually. “We are grateful for this collaboration with Disney Cruise Line. Our students were so excited to step aboard the Disney Treasure and see first-hand the types of career opportunities that await them in the future,” said Callia Smith- Harriott, executive director, Junior Achievement Jamaica. “I believe this experience with the Disney Cruise Line team will help drive home the skills we teach in this program.” Fostering connections to conservation in St. Thomas Friends of Virgin Islands National Park in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands works to protect the unique resources of Virgin Islands National Park. Through its School Kids in the Park (SKIP) program, crew members from the Disney Treasure crew will soon work side-by-side with students to patrol beaches for sea turtle activity during nesting season, fostering awareness of sea turtle conservation. Disney Cruise Line’s Treasure Tomorrow investment will continue to support programming in these Caribbean communities throughout the year and beyond. 4. Let’s be real — planning a Disney World vacation takes enough strategic thinking without adding weather wildcards into the mix. But with 2024’s record-breaking hurricane season behind us, and forecasters predicting an active 2025 season according to CBS News, those of us planning trips during hurricane season need to approach things differently. Rainy day at Magic Kingdom The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season will take place from June through November. We’ve experienced both sides of the Disney hurricane equation — the perfectly sunny trip where the only water we encountered was at our hotel pool, and the vacation where we watched Cast Members sandbag storefronts before a hurricane. Being prepared is the difference between a great trip and a disaster. Now, these rules aren’t about scaring you away from booking during the months of June through November — they’re about preparing you to travel with confidence during a season that requires a bit more planning. Rule #1: Book Direct Through Disney When it comes to hurricane season bookings, how you book your trip matters just as much as what you book. This isn’t the time to prioritize saving a few dollars through third-party sites over securing peace of mind. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Disney’s Hurricane Policy is your best friend during storm season — but it only applies if you’ve booked directly through Disney. This policy allows you to reschedule or cancel your vacation packages and most room-only reservations without penalties when a hurricane warning is issued for Orlando or your home residence within seven days of your scheduled arrival. That kind of flexibility is invaluable during uncertain weather. Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton If you absolutely must book through a third-party website or app, thoroughly read their hurricane policies before confirming. Many have significantly stricter cancelation terms than Disney’s policy, potentially leaving you with non-refundable charges if a storm threatens. Now, when we say “third party,” we’re not talking about travel agents – they book for you directly through Disney. (And frankly, booking with a travel agent is a VERY smart strategy during hurricane season) We’re talking about the apps and websites where you pay THAT company directly, and they book your vacation for you (like Expedia, Priceline, and Hotwire). You can sometimes find Disney World hotels on those sites, and you can sometimes save a few bucks over booking direct — but hurricane season just isn’t the time. Rule #2: Get Hurricane-specific Travel Insurance Here’s another reason to use a travel agent – they can often hook you up with travel insurance. It’s probably cheaper than you think – and it’s worth the peace of mind for a lot of people. Standard travel insurance often excludes named storms unless you purchase the coverage before the storm is named. Look for policies that specifically mention hurricane coverage for trip cancelation or interruption. Rule #3: Build Buffer Days Into Your Itinerary We highly recommend you start or end your trip with a day or two that could be sacrificed to weather disruptions without ruining your must-do experiences. Rainy Day at Hollywood Studios This approach can save your vacation if a hurricane closes the parks for one or two days — if you plan it right, you can build in enough flexibility to still hit all your priority attractions. Rain Even if a major storm isn’t directly hitting the Disney World area, you may encounter a few majorly rainy days in the mix on your trip. Plan some wiggle room ahead for your itinerary so that you can hit up Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on wetter days as they offer the most indoor attractions and experiences. And know which outdoor attractions typically close when lightning is in the area (even without rain). Rainy day in Magic Kingdom Popular rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Slinky Dog Dash, and Expedition Everest will definitely be no-gos during lightning or heavy rain, so schedule those for morning slots since it’s less likely to pour earlier in the day in Orlando. Rule #4: Budget for Contingencies Set aside an emergency fund for potential extended stays or alternative transportation if flights are canceled. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Airports often close before, during, and after hurricanes until they can ensure safe operations, which could mean additional hotel nights and meals. Rule #5: Choose Your Hotel Strategically Not all Disney resorts are created equal when it comes to weathering a storm. While all Disney resorts are built to withstand hurricane-force winds, the difference between a comfortable “hurrication” and a less pleasant experience often comes down to your hotel choice. Old Key West Disney’s Deluxe resorts with interior corridors and multiple dining options under one roof offer significant advantages during severe weather. Consider these hurricane-friendly options: Disney’s Contemporary Resort (main tower) Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (main building) Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House) Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts Disney’s Gran Destino Tower Disney’s Riviera Resort These resorts allow you to move between your room, restaurants, and entertainment spaces without going outside during dangerous weather. Wilderness Lodge What you might want to avoid during hurricane season: Resorts with exterior corridors and spread-out buildings like: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Grand Floridian Resort Disney’s Moderate and Value Resorts (like the All-Star Resorts, Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans Resorts, Coronado Springs, and Art of Animation) When you can’t go outside during a storm, having to dash between buildings for food or activities becomes a real problem. Grand Floridian Resort If you’re really thinking ahead, consider booking a Disney Vacation Club villa that offers an in-room kitchen and laundry. Being able to hunker down with the amenities you need can be a game-changer if you’re confined to your room. There’s a small kitchen area at Old Key West No matter where you stay, prepare your room as a potential storm shelter. Here’s what we recommend: Stock up on provisions – While Disney may offer “Hurricane Meal Kits ” (basic meal kits) during storms, in the past, you had to be able to actually get to the lobby or gift shop to get them. Grocery delivery services and food delivery apps typically shut down, get backed up, or cancel orders as storms approach, so have snacks, water, and shelf-stable food in your room before bad weather hits. We love the service provided by Kroger Grocery Delivery at Disney World – You can order directly through the Kroger app and have water, snacks, and even things like swim diapers or your forgotten deodorant delivered directly to your hotel. Again, if there’s a chance a hurricane will affect the area, we recommend placing your order a few days in advance. Pack entertainment options – Download movies, bring card games, books, or other activities that don’t require power or internet. Those hours in the hotel room will feel much longer without fun stuff to do. ©Disney And don’t forget: there’s a LOT that goes into making your trip special, even if there’s a storm. During hurricanes, Disney relies on volunteer “ride-out crews” who stay at the resorts to care for guests while being away from their own families. These Cast Members work extended shifts in challenging conditions. A little patience and appreciation go a very long way. Rule #6: Pack Your Hurricane Tech Essentials Your phone becomes your most powerful tool during hurricane season — if you’ve set it up properly. The right apps and settings can provide critical information hours before official announcements. Essential apps we recommend: Florida Storms: The official Florida Public Radio Emergency Network app with Florida-specific alerts OCFL Alert: Orange County’s app that provides the most timely local warnings and evacuation notices if they become necessary My Disney Experience: Where Disney will push official communications about park hours and closures Your airline’s app: Set up push notifications for flight changes and cancelations Power becomes precious during storms, so pack multiple portable chargers with at least 10,000mAh capacity each. Hotel power can flicker or go out entirely during severe weather, and you’ll need your devices to stay informed. INIU Portable Charger Disney World during hurricane season isn’t inherently risky — it just requires more intentional planning. By booking directly with Disney, choosing storm-resilient accommodations, and leveraging technology to stay informed, you’re positioning yourself to handle whatever weather comes your way. EPCOT The reality is that Disney has only closed for hurricanes a handful of times in its history. The odds are in your favor that your trip will proceed without major disruptions. But by following these rules, you’ll be prepared for both the likely scenario (a great vacation with perhaps some rain) and the unlikely one (weathering a hurricane at the Most Magical Place on Earth). A rainy day in Disney World So pack those ponchos, book that travel insurance, and approach your 2025 hurricane season Disney trip with informed confidence. 6. Marvel’s latest film Thunderbolts* is being hailed by many critics and fans as a “return to form” for the once-prolific hit-making studio. ©Marvel If you’re waiting for the film’s Disney+ debut to check it out, we think we know roughly when the film might debut on the streamer. The film, which features characters from previous Marvel films including including Yelena “Black Widow” Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker who find “themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts” has received a mostly positive reaction from both fans and critics since it’s May 2nd release. ©Marvel Currently, the Jake Schreier-directed film – – which stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer and Wendell Edward Pierce – – features an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a general critical consensus reading “Assembling a ragtag band of underdogs with Florence Pugh as their magnetic standout, Thunderbolts* refreshingly returns to the tried-and-true blueprint of the MCU’s best adventures.” While we don’t exactly when Thunderbolts* will debut on Disney+, we can look at other recent Marvel projects to get an idea. 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine was released in theaters on July 22nd (going on to become the second most successful film of the year at the box office), and was added to the streaming service on November 12th, a roughly 3.5-month window. ©Marvel Captain America: Brave New World will make its Disney+ debut on May 28th, roughly 3.5 months after its February 14th theatrical premiere. ©Disney Given these timelines, it’s safe to assume that Thunderbolts* will premiere on the service 3.5 months after it appeared in theaters, which is roughly mid-August. Honestly, our bigger question is this: Is the film called Thunderbolts* on Disney+, or does it go by it’s post-credits reveal name: SPOILERS AHEAD (Even though Disney has revealed it in a post-release advertising campaign) LAST CHANCE Assembled indeed. ©Marvel Studios Marvel’s latest film, Thunderbolts* should be arriving on Disney+ sometime this summer, based on previous history. 8. We’ll be the first to admit that most members of our team aren’t very thrilled when Disney announces another live-action film or remake. ©Disney Sure, we’ve seen some decent ones in the past, but several of them end up being flops, and we wonder why Disney keeps doing them. When Disney announced they’d be doing a live-action remake of one of our childhood favorites, Lilo & Stitch, we were TERRIFIED. Although the marketing has been hilarious, fans weren’t 100% sure the movie would deliver…but based on recent reviews, that is far from the case! The original animated film, released in 2002, was a major box office success, bringing in $273 million worldwide from an $80 million budget. Both films follow the story of Lilo, a lonely Hawaiian girl who finds a wild, chaotic, and mischievous alien named Stitch. With help from her big sister Nani, they teach Stitch the meaning of “ohana,” or family. ©Disney Now we’re really looking forward to seeing this film in theaters and sharing our own thoughts on the film when it releases on May 23rd! 9. Major changes are hitting Disney’s Hollywood Studios next week! Not one, but TWO new attractions will debut on May 27th. Disney’s Hollywood Studios One of these attractions is a reimagining of the old Voyage of the Little Mermaid show called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure.” We’ve seen some of the show elements we’ll see, and Disney also teased that never-before-seen characters are coming to the show. We also know that this new attraction will be available with Lightning Lane Multi Pass — here’s what you need to know. Disney’s new “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” show debuts on May 27th and will have several shows throughout the day, running from 9:15 AM to 7:15 PM. Not only that, but it’s officially been confirmed that this show will be available with Lightning Lane Multi Pass — which is a paid service that lets you skip the standby line at popular attractions. ©Disney With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can pay (per person, per park, per day) to bypass the standby line at popular attractions, and since the Little Mermaid show is brand-new, it’s likely that it will garner quite the lines once it premieres. New signs! The new show is a revamped version of the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which hasn’t returned since the COVID-19 pandemic-related park closures in 2020. We are expecting some big changes for this show, like Prince Eric getting a bigger role and “Kiss the Girl” becoming the largest number in the show. Previously, “Under the Sea” was the biggest number, so we’re excited to see these changes brought to life on the stage. ©GMA The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure isn’t the only new show coming to Hollywood Studios this summer! A brand-new Disney villains show called Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is also set to take the stage, bringing your favorite Disney baddies to life so they can show you that they’ve actually just been misunderstood all this time. ©Disney We’ll be on the lookout for additional updates from Hollywood Studios and Disney World. 10. Darth Vader, the infamous villain from Star Wars, appeared in Fortnite on Friday in an entirely new way as a conversational AI-experience, powered by the iconic voice of Disney Legend James Earl Jones. In close consultation with the family of James Earl Jones (who passed away last year), Disney, and Lucasfilm, Epic Games used groundbreaking AI technology to allow fans to interact with this renowned character in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. “James Earl felt that the voice of Darth Vader was inseparable from the story of Star Wars, and he always wanted fans of all ages to continue to experience it,” the family of James Earl Jones said. “We hope that this collaboration with Fortnite will allow both longtime fans of Darth Vader and newer generations to share in the enjoyment of this iconic character.” Epic Games and Disney have worked together to thoughtfully develop this innovative feature with a strong focus on transparency, consent, and safety — ensuring that creators, Disney IP, and players are protected in interactive experiences. “James Earl Jones’ legendary vocal performance is a defining element of what makes Darth Vader one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history,” Sean Shoptaw, EVP, Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, said. “Disney, Lucasfilm, and Epic Games are honored to bring his voice to Fortnite for millions of players to experience — showcasing how we responsibly embrace emerging technologies to expand storytelling while keeping people at the heart of the creative process.” “We just launched the most expansive Star Wars collaboration Epic and Disney have ever done, and we are excited to introduce a new and immersive way for players to interact with a legendary Star Wars character,” said Adam Sussman, President of Epic Games. “Now players have a chance to chat in real time with Darth Vader in Fortnite, one of the most memorable characters in cinematic history.” Players under the age of 13, or below their country’s digital age of consent (whichever is higher), will need parental permission to engage in conversation with the character. When players talk to Vader, Epic Games securely processes the voice audio to generate Vader’s responses, but audio and transcriptions of the conversation are not stored. Players can also report anything Darth Vader says. To learn more, head to Fortnite. 13. So far, we’ve eaten a LOT of treats in Universal Orlando’s new park, Epic Universe. Epic Universe Five different lands with new restaurants and snack stands…dozens of menu items in total? There’s a whole new UNIVERSE of eats out there! (Pun totally intended.) But with all the treats we’ve tried, there’s one item that has stood out among the rest. If you’re going to Epic Universe soon, then the one item our team agrees you need to add to your must-try list is the Butterbeer Crepe in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. It’s available at the main quick service spot, Cafe L’air de la Sirene. Butterbeer Crepe The official name is the Bièraubeurre Crepe for $19.99. Multiple people from our team have tried it, and it has been described as “the most decadent thing I have eaten in a long, long time” and “beautifully presented.” It’s made with two stacked crepes filled with rich butterscotch sauce and topped with a swirl of whipped cream that tastes just like the foam on Butterbeer drinks. It even comes with sliced strawberries and a tiny shortbread cookie. YUM The crepes themselves are thin with a nice bit of chew, but the filling really carries the dish — it’s like a combination of butterscotch and cookie butter flavors, which emulate Butterbeer incredibly well. The crepes are served cool, and this is definitely an overwhelmingly sweet treat. Look at that bite! If you’re in the mood for a delicious dessert to enjoy while you take in the sights of the Wizarding World, you can sit outside! But you really can’t go wrong eating indoors here either… And a beautiful dining location, too! …because the entire place is absolutely STUNNING. From incredible architecture to beautiful lighting, I definitely recommend stepping inside this restaurant to look around, even if you don’t dine here. Inside the cafe So if you’re heading to Epic Universe, this is definitely on our must-try list. Check out the video below to see more of the best eats in Epic Universe! Stay tuned to DFB for more Epic Universe news and updates. Check Out Our Review of the Cafe Here! Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> Have you been to Epic Universe yet? 14. Disney World’s Disability Access Service (better known as DAS) has gone through some controversial changes recently. Magic Kingdom These updates include making the service even more limited, which has upset many fans and caused dissatisfaction with the current accommodations for those with disabilities. Now, yet another change has been announced for Disney’s DAS system that extends its validity period. Disney World has extended the period during which its Disability Access Service (DAS) is valid. Most recently, DAS was only valid for 240 days following approval, but now DAS is valid for up to one year after being approved. Prior to that, DAS was only valid for 30 days (with Disney extending it to 120 days and later, 240 days). EPCOT The new change allows for a longer period between when a park guest may need to re-register for the program. The official language on Disney World’s website says: “DAS is valid for the length of the ticket or up to 1 year, whichever is shorter. Once the service has elapsed, Guests need to re-register for the program.” Disney’s Animal Kingdom Originally, DAS was offered to those with a wide range of disabilities, but that is no longer the case. Before the changes in 2024, the service allowed those to enter the Lightning Lane line via a return time after they were approved for the service. However, in May of 2024 at Disney World and June of 2024 at Disneyland, the service changed as Disney wanted to tackle the overuse of the service. The wording was adjusted to state that only select guests qualify for this service “due to a developmental disability like autism or similar disorder.” Disney’s Hollywood Studios This left many with non-developmental disabilities — but who might still benefit from the service — out of luck, and they were offered accommodations instead of DAS. These accommodations included being told to purchase Lighting Lane (or Genie+ pre-July 2024) or talk to Cast Members at each attraction to see what accommodations they could provide. Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios Since the changes were made in 2024, there have also been changes made to the way registration is done, as well as the length that DAS is good for before needing to reapply. Disney later made another quiet change to its DAS wording. The Disney website previously stated, “DAS is intended to accommodate only those Guests who, due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time.” Disney quietly updated the Disability Access Page’s language to remove the word “only,” which could impact who can access the service, though we have yet to see any major changes. Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom We’ll be on the lookout for additional changes to Disney’s DAS program and more updates from Disney World and beyond. 16. Yesterday
  17. We always want to make sure you are as prepared as possible for your Disney World trip, so we want to make sure you know about closures that could impact your Disney World vacation! The good news is that Disney often lets us know about closures ahead of time so you can be prepared. However, there can still be unexpected closures during your trip. Rides could have technical difficulties, or weather could affect some operations. Magic Kingdom You can’t control or plan for those things, BUT you can plan ahead for planned closures at Disney World. We are rounding up everything that will be closed this week, so let’s take a look! Let’s take a look at what attractions and locations will be closed this week, May 17th through May 24th, at Disney World! Magic Kingdom Playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue closed for refurbishment on February 24th, 2025. While the playground is closed, the ride is still open and available for kids of all ages to soar through the sky! Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor playground is expected to reopen in Spring 2025. Hall of Presidents The Hall of Presidents closed at Magic Kingdom on January 20th. Hall of Presidents The attraction will be closed until later in 2025, though Disney has not shared a specific date. We will keep an eye out for updates, though! The closure is likely to change the current president, as January 20th marked Inauguration Day. While it is closed, other maintenance and routine work may also be happening. Astro Orbiter If you want to blast off into space, you’ll have to head over to Space Mountain because Astro Orbiter is temporarily closed for refurbishment! Astro Orbiter closed as of January 13th and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025. No specific date has been announced for the high-in-the-sky ride, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for an update from Disney. Astro Orbiter The ride has been completely dismantled and is being refurbished elsewhere. It definitely looks a little barren as you are walking into Tomorrowland right now! However, Disney recently filed a permit that could mean the attraction will soon be back in its place in Tomorrowland. 5 Magic Kingdom Secrets Disney Doesn’t Want You to Know Big Thunder Mountain Railroad On January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and take a rest, this could be it! Tortuga Tavern Just like Tomorrowland Terrace, Tortuga Tavern is a seasonal restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It has been a bit since we saw it open. Most recently, it was used as a cookie location for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tortuga Tavern We had previously spotted shrubs around the restaurant as they worked on the flooring. However, all the shrubs have been taken down now. We don’t know exactly when/if this restaurant will reopen, but we will keep you updated if we learn more! I’ve Tried Every Ride Hack in Magic Kingdom, And I’m Sharing the 3 That Work Every Time EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, 2024, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Test Track construction Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. We recently got a look at the new Test Track cars, too. We are getting closer and closer to its reopening! We Reviewed 6 Snacks Under $9 in EPCOT (and the Results Were Shocking) Disney’s Animal Kingdom It’s Tough to Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug is officially closed for good. This attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom invites you to join the bug kingdom on an adventure. While the show didn’t usually make it to the top of favorite attractions in Disney World, it has now officially closed to make way for a new show. It’s Tough to Be a Bug is closed! It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed on March 17th. The show is permanently closed to make way for a brand-new show, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, expected to debut in winter 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The walls have been up since the closure, and things have been disappearing from behind the walls. Almost everything has been taken down behind the walls, including the large green dinosaur. DinoLand, U.S.A. It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, the snack stands, and The Boneyard remain open. Disney hasn’t announced an official closing date for the rest of DinoLand. However, they have announced that “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” Disney’s NEW Animal Kingdom Announcements Are the Best Things We’ve Seen All Week Disney’s Hollywood Studios Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars-themed show featuring Lightning McQueen permanently closed on October 8th, 2024, to make way for a brand-new Villains show. Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy The Cars show was previously housed in the Sunset Showcase building, but the last day for guests to enjoy it was October 7th. The new Villains show officially has an opening date! It will debut on May 27th, 2025. We also recently saw that they have begun dismantling the outdoor exhibits from Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. Voyage of the Little Mermaid As well, Voyage of the Little Mermaid is currently closed in Disney World. The iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid marquee has been removed, and it was recently replaced with a brand-new marquee sign! So far, it is still missing, but we are curious what, if anything, will take its place. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Disney is going to introduce a new, updated show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure,” and will be debuting on May 27th, 2025. It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano We are getting close to the closure of this Hollywood Studios restaurant. If you have been wanting to have one last meal here, make sure you stop by on May 10th or before, as the restaurant is officially closing for good on May 11th, 2025. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano The restaurant is closing in Muppets Courtyard to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. Eventually, the rest of Muppets Courtyard will also close, including Muppet*Vision 3D on June 8th, 2025 (last day to experience the show is June 7th). Something NEW Just Arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to FINALLY Replace a Long Abandoned Attraction Disney Springs Starbucks on the West Side The Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs is temporarily closed for refurbishment. It closed on March 3rd, and it is expected to reopen in mid-summer. Starbucks is undergoing refurbishment Have no fear, though — you can still get your Starbucks fix in Disney Springs! Head over to the Disney Springs Marketplace location, which will be open during the refurbishment. Caffeine headaches are not allowed in Disney Springs! REVIEW: “This Is Insane” — We’re Testing Out The Newest Menu Items At A Popular Disney Springs Restaurant Blizzard Beach Typhoon Lagoon officially reopened on May 1st, while Blizzard Beach closed for refurbishment. However, Blizzard Beach will only be closed for a few weeks this time. Disney has been having one water park open at a time seasonally since 2020, but that is changing this year. Blizzard Beach BOTH Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will be open at the same time from May 21st through September 7th, 2025. That means that soon you will have options of which water park you want to go to. Right now, though, just Typhoon Lagoon is open. Typhoon Lagoon Is FINALLY Open Again in Disney World! Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Alright, it is only kind of closing, but we wanted to make sure you were aware! From April 28th until June 16th, 2025, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf will be undergoing refurbishment. However, even though it will be getting refurbished, you can still stop by to play a round of golf. Only ONE course will be open at a time during the refurbishment, so you won’t have your choice of The Summer or The Winter Course; it will just be whichever one is open. Winter Summerland Mini Golf As well, Winter Summerland won’t be taking reservations during this time. If you are looking to play a round, you will just head over to the course as a walk-up. You can also head over to Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf if you are looking for even more mini golf fun. Disney World Hotels Whispering Canyon Café — Disney’s Wilderness Lodge From May 12th through May 21st, 2025, Whispering Canyon Café at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will be closed for refurbishment. The good news is that it is only a short refurbishment, but if you are in Disney World during this time, you won’t be able to dine at this restaurant. Whispering Canyon Cafe Luckily, there are also LOTS of other dining options available at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, including Territory Lounge, Roaring Fork, Geyser Point Bar & Grill, and Story Book Dining at Artist Point with Snow White. While we will miss all the shenanigans and all-you-can-eat fare, the restaurant will be back open soon! Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. Jellyrolls However, this isn’t the end for Jellyrolls, as the bar has said they are “making a move.” We don’t know many details about that move yet, but we will keep you updated. Stormalong Bay and Hurricane Hanna’s– Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Stormalong Bay is the shared pool between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. It features a beach, a lazy river, a large pool, and an exciting pirate ship slide! When we stopped by recently, we noticed that they were hard at work at Stormalong Bay. Stormalong Bay Construction This pool area will be closed until June for refurbishment. While it’s closed, hotel guests can use the Tidal (Beach Club), Admiral (Yacht Club), and Dunes Cove (Beach Club) leisure pools. Hurricane Hanna’s, the pool bar at Stormalong Bay, will also be closed during the refurbishment. 22. After you’ve been to Disney World a few times, there are a few vacation “rules” you start to follow. Some are practical (rope drop is essential), some are culinary (DOLE Whip is non-negotiable), and some are technological (shoutout to Disney tech like MagicBands for making our lives easier). But what if we told you that some of the most common MagicBand “rules” are actually costing you money and convenience? Magic Kingdom As Disney World’s technology has evolved, so should our approach to wearable devices. Whether you’re planning your first visit or your fifteenth trip, here are three MagicBand rules that savvy Disney experts know to break. Rule #1 to Break: “You Need to Buy a New MagicBand” Perhaps the most unnecessary expense in Disney planning is the belief that you need a fresh MagicBand for each trip. Your old MagicBands still work perfectly fine! The original MagicBand and MagicBand 2 have batteries that typically last a few years (we estimate 2-3 years in our experience), and even after the battery dies, the passive RFID chip still works for basic functions like park entry and Lightning Lane access. That means you can keep scanning into the park with your old MagicBand for a while! The Band Concert Magicband (OLD design) If you’re determined to expand your MagicBand collection, consider these money-saving strategies: If you’re a resort guest, pre-order MagicBands at discounted prices (we’ve seen MagicBands available for as little as $25!) Check Disney Character Warehouse outlet stores near Orlando for discounted MagicBands Rule #2 to Break: “Always Buy the Latest MagicBand+” When Disney released MagicBand+ in 2022, it seemed like the obvious upgrade — more features, more interactivity, more magic! But many of us who eagerly purchased them have found ourselves wondering if the “plus” is worth the additional cost and hassle. Tron Lightcycle / Run MagicBand+ Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: battery life. While traditional MagicBands can last several years without charging, a MagicBand+ needs to be charged pretty often. A full charge can typically last between one and one and a half days, so we recommend charging it each night when you get back to your hotel. That means adding yet another device to your nightly charging routine during vacation. Nothing says “relaxing getaway” like hunting for an available outlet in your hotel room, right? MagicBand+ The price difference is also substantial: MagicBand+: $34.99 for solid colors, $44.99+ for specialty designs Original MagicBand 2: $19.99-$24.99 (though Disney does not sell these anymore on the Disney Store website) So what do you get for that premium? MagicBand+ vibrates and lights up during nighttime spectaculars and offers interactive features like the Batuu Bounty Hunters game in Galaxy’s Edge. But many people feel like these features are pretty subtle and certainly don’t justify the extra cost and charging headaches. You can interact with the statues in the Magic Kingdom Hub Consider sticking with a standard MagicBand if: You dislike having another device to charge on vacation You’re not particularly interested in the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters game You prefer minimal technology interaction during your vacation You’re traveling with a family (those price differences add up quickly!) Rule #3 to Break: “Everyone Needs a MagicBand” Disney (and the people around you) might make you believe that MagicBands are essential to the Disney World experience. Those colorful wristbands have become almost as iconic as Mickey ears for many visitors. But here’s the insider truth: with recent technological advances, MagicBands are completely optional. MagicBand+ The My Disney Experience app with MagicMobile service now offers nearly identical functionality: Park entry Lightning Lane and virtual queue access PhotoPass service Resort hotel charging MagicBands might not be worth the investment if you’re: Visiting for just 1-2 days Tech-savvy and comfortable using your smartphone Not staying at a Disney resort Trying to stick to a budget (MagicBands start at $35) That said, there are still some functions where physical MagicBands edge out the digital version. MagicBands offer more reliable room key access (the My Disney Experience app’s “Unlock Door” feature works about 75-85% of the time), resort parking gate access, automatic ride photo linking without having Bluetooth enabled, and locker access at TRON Lightcycle / Run. Lockers at TRON: Lightcycle / Run The bottom line? If you’re primarily visiting the parks and not staying on property, you can probably skip the MagicBand altogether and save that money for an extra DOLE Whip or two. By breaking these unwritten “rules” about MagicBands, you can save money while still enjoying all the convenience of a well-planned Disney World vacation. 24. You’re gonna want to hit the ground running, but trust us — don’t start here. Super Nintendo World Super Nintendo World is one of the hot-ticket lands at Universal’s new Epic Universe park in Orlando, and it’s going to blow your kid’s mind. Between Mario Kart, Power-Up Bands, interactive games, and just the sheer colors of it all, this place is one of the most immersive and exciting areas in the whole park. But if you’re not careful with your timing, you might end up dealing with a full-on meltdown when it’s time to move on — and that’s the major mistake we’re begging you not to make. Going to Super Nintendo World FIRST Thing in the Morning We know. The second those park gates open, your kids (or you — no judgment) will probably be ready to sprint straight to the green warp pipe and jump headfirst into Mario’s world. But let’s hit pause for a second. Portal Entrance to Super Nintendo World Here’s the thing: if you take your kids to Super Nintendo World first thing in the morning, you’ve basically just set your entire day up to be one long negotiation to not leave. This land is designed to suck you in. It’s interactive, it’s loud, it’s game-based, and it’s a kid’s dream come true. Super Nintendo World And once they’re in, they’re not gonna want to go explore the rest of the park. No other land is going to measure up in their eyes. You’re going to be in a position where you’re either spending the entire day here (which may not be the most efficient or strategic park plan) or dragging them out kicking and screaming (which is not a vibe). Super Nintendo World with a glimpse at Toadstool Cafe Instead, consider saving Super Nintendo World for the end of your day. Let the other four portals in Epic Universe have their moment — How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Celestial Park, Dark Universe, and the Wizarding World are all impressive in their own right and totally worth exploring. Plus, if you hit up those lands earlier in the day while the excitement is fresh, you can save the big reward — Mario, Peach, Yoshi, the whole gang— for later. It gives you something to look forward to, and there’s a good chance crowds may thin out a bit later in the day once the initial rush dies down. A Land That’s Built for Deep Engagement Another reason to hold off on Super Nintendo World until later: this isn’t just a walk-through-it-and-move-on type of place. The entire land is built for interactivity. There are Power-Up Bands that let you collect coins and complete mini-games, hidden secrets all over the place, and layered storytelling that keeps kids (and let’s be real, plenty of adults) completely engrossed. It’s not just one or two rides and out. You’ll be in there a while. Bowser’s Challenge! So if you go first thing, you’re essentially starting your day with the deepest, most time-consuming land in the park. That makes it really hard to stick to any kind of itinerary or see the rest of Epic Universe without feeling rushed or frazzled. Use It as Your Grand Finale Look, we’re not saying don’t go. You should go. It’s going to be an absolute must-do. But treat it like dessert. Let your kids know from the beginning of the day that Super Nintendo World is the last stop — and make it something to work toward. That way, you don’t blow your energy (and their patience) right out of the gate. Super Nintendo World As a bonus, you might actually enjoy it more when you’re not jostling through peak morning crowds, and you’ll be able to take your time without worrying about the rest of your checklist. Mario and Luigi! We’re all about helping you plan a smarter trip, so trust us on this one: don’t start your day in Super Nintendo World. Save it for the end, and thank us later. We’ll be covering even MORE Epic Universe stuff, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Read more: DFB's complete guide to Universal’s Epic Universe >> What are you most excited about in Epic Universe? 25. There are so many hotel choices for your Disney World vacation that it can be hard to choose which one is perfect for your family. Conrad Orlando We just had a special tour of the Conrad Orlando, so we can give you all the details and help you decide if this is the resort for you. The Conrad Orlando is a Disney World Good Neighbor Hotel, which means you get Disney World perks without staying at a Disney resort. There is complimentary transportation to the theme parks, the chance to purchase advanced tickets, and even a grab-and-go breakfast to take with you while you head on your bus to the theme parks. Little Spoon There’s so much to do at the resort, too! With pools, two golf courses, and arrival and departure lounges, you’ll love taking a break from the parks and spending time at the resort. There’s even a STEM-based kids club! They talk about the Everglades, use microscopes, and even have two baby alligators. The pool For the pools, there are poolside cabanas and a splash pad area for everyone to enjoy. We loved seeing the spa and wellness rooms and learning how they use sustainability initiatives and even sell a local skincare line. Cabanas We headed to Apero, the bar on the property, which is debuting five new cocktails. One of those cocktails is a charity drink that changes monthly. They offered a Mental Health Awareness Month drink made with butterfly peas because butterflies symbolize Mental Health Awareness. Stunning drinks! Another drink we tried is the Apero, named after the bar, a take on a Mojito. It was mint forward and reminded us of a Mojito and a margarita merged together. We loved it! There are also alcohol-free options. The menu Sophia’s Trattoria, the restaurant on the property, welcomed us to try two different dishes, including the Arancini and bay scallop crudo. Food options The Conrad Orlando is a Hilton-managed property, so you can book directly through the Hilton website and use and earn points. For Hilton Honors, there’s even a chance to save up to 17% off the Best Available Rate by booking in advance. Are you going to stay at The Conrad during your next visit? 26. Something BIG is happening over in Disneyland. Disneyland is celebrating its 70th Anniversary, and the party has already started and will last through summer 2026. We’ve seen a lot of celebrating, too, with the World of Color Happiness show, the return of the Paint The Night parade, new merchandise, ride updates, and so much more. However, more importantly, the celebration is bringing NEW food — and well, you know, that is OUR THING. So let’s check out seven of the new Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration snacks. Okay, we’re starting with the CLASSIC Jolly Holiday Bakery, which often makes some of our favorite treats in the park! For the 70th, the Matterhorn Macaroon (which we’re already big fans of) is becoming the Celebration Matterhorn Macaroon, a Coconut Macaroon dipped in White Chocolate and Sprinkles for $8.29. Okay, so you can’t go wrong with this snack — it tastes like a delicious coconut donut. The white chocolate on top adds a nice touch of sweetness. Plus the celebratory sprinkles are fun! Celebration Matterhorn Macaroon We also tried the Strawberry Shortcake Macaron (not to be confused with the macarOON) with Vanilla Bean Buttercream, Strawberry Jam and Fresh Strawberry, with Strawberry Whipped Topping, and Strawberry Crunch for $8.29. First up, this is the most gorgeous treat we’ve seen in a while. LOOK AT IT. The macaron shell on top is perfectly baked, while the buttercream and strawberry filling add a refreshing real strawberry taste to the whole. The cake on bottom is beautifully moist. This is going to be our go-to summer treat. Strawberry Shortcake Macaron Then there’s the Mickey Hat Cookie, which looks JUST like a Mickey hat. This cookie is dipped in Black Chocolate with a Chocolate Decoration and costs $6.79. The cookie is a traditional shortbread sugar cookie — it’s moist and dense without being too hard to bite or break. There’s also a hint of vanilla or almond taste, too. The chocolate is a thin layer, so the cookie can shine with just a hint of additional flavor. Now, there are better treats to get here, but this is still a solid choice if you have a sweet tooth. Mickey Hat Cookie Okay, we’re done at Jolly Holiday, so we’re making our way over to New Orleans Square to Tiana’s Palace. There’s a House-filled Celebration Beignet for $5.99 that’s filled with Raspberry Mousse with a Buttercream Glaze and Edible Candle and Sprinkles. Word of warning — the beignets here tend to disappoint us, especially when you can get a delicious Mickey beignet right next door at Mint Julep Bar. House-Filled Celebration Beignet This beignet is pretty much on par with the previous ones we’ve had here, and that’s not saying much. First, it tastes artificial. Second, it’s not even a traditional beignet (you’re really letting Tiana down here, Disney). The blue frosting turned us into a Smurf, and the strawberry filling tastes fake. There’s also very little filling, and LOOK at the inside of this thing. Where’s the traditional beignet fluffiness? It’s just not there. This is not a real beignet, and you can’t convince us otherwise. This is NOT a proper beignet Okay, we need to get away from here and head to Adventureland to Tropical Hideaway. Here you can get the Pineapple Upside Down Sundae, made with DOLE Whip Pineapple, Caramel Drizzle, and Pineapple Upside-down Cake, topped with a Maraschino Cherry for $8.49. This is basically the sundae version of the DOLE whip float. There are tons of caramelized pineapple chunks and cake pieces, but y’all, it is SOGGY. And that soggy cake mixture just kinda ruins the whole thing for us. The flavors are great, but skip the cake. Pineapple upside down sundae Okay, that’s enough sweets for now because our dentist is about to be very angry with us. So let’s try something savory. Over in Frontierland, The Golden Horseshoe is offering Cowboy Fries for $13.99 made with Fries, Nacho Cheese, Sautéed Ground Beef, Burger Sauce, and Butter Pickles. Basically, this is a deconstructed cheeseburger and fries, and WE ARE HERE FOR IT. It’s a snack, sure, but it also makes for a filling meal. The beef is flavored well, the cheese and burger sauce work so well together, and the butter pickles added a nice touch of sweetness. The shoestring fries were also the perfect choice for this. Cowboy Fries Okay, one more sweet snack, but it’s totally okay because it’s a churro, and you can’t NOT go to Disneyland without having a churro. We grabbed the 70th Celebration Churro, which is available at many of the churro carts. For $7.50, you get a Classic Churro rolled in Ube Sugar and topped with marbled Blue Raspberry Icing Drizzle and Sprinkles. 70th Celebration Churro Y’all…this could be one of our fave specialty churros. The flavors work so well together with the sweet and salty ube and the sweet and tart raspberry icing. Yes, it turned our mouth purple, but that’s a small price to pay for deliciousness. 27. There is no shortage of dining options at Disney World. There are options for just about anyone, but we don’t want you wasting your time and money on bad food. We have eaten everywhere in Disney World, and we aren’t stopping there! We are constantly trying new food and revisiting locations to make sure you have the most up to date information about dining at Disney World. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge We recently stopped by The Mara at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to see whether it is worth a stop. We are bringing you our FULL review, so don’t go anywhere. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to Disney World? Find out here! Atmosphere Today, we are heading over to The Mara located inside of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. This quick service location is named after the Masai Mara National Reserve in Africa. Inside, you will find a taste of Africa, as well as some American favorites. The Mara The Mara is located near Boma and Jiko — The Cooking Place. Just head out the doors between the two restaurants, hang a left, and then your next stop will be The Mara. It is next to the Uzima Springs pool area, so it could be a great option if you are enjoying a day by the pool. One of the really cool parts about The Mara is that you can actually find some of the offerings from Boma on the menu, including Zebra Domes and Butternut Squash Soup. The Mara You can stop by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and enjoy your food inside or head out to a small area offering tables outside. Of course, you can also take the food to go and head poolside or bring it back to your room! There are a multitude of tables available inside… The Mara seating …as well as a few tables with umbrellas outside. Outside seating When you first walk in, you will be greeted by a tree mural of the acacia tree adorning the entrance, and you will also spot animal murals encompassing the walls behind the seating. Aren’t they fun? Like most quick-service restaurants, you head to the ordering area to grab your food. The Mara is set up like a food court, with a variety of food stations. The Mara There are also coolers with grab-and-go options. Grab and Go Options You will also find a section for grab-and-go snacks, where you can pick up a bottle of wine. You can grab snacks and wine! Plus, there is a bakery section to grab a sweet treat. If you are looking for the famous Zebra Domes, though, you will find them in the refrigerated grab-and-go section. Bakery Section Once you have all your food items, you can head to the check-out counter to pay and then choose your favorite seat. We are stopping by for a late lunch (or early dinner if you prefer), so let’s take a look at what’s on the menu here! Menu Let’s start off with a variety of entrees, including a Harissa-spiced Beef Bowl and a Tamarind Barbecue Pork Sandwich. ©Disney You can also grab a cheese or pepperoni flatbread, or the Fire-roasted Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread. Additionally, there are options for cold sandwiches, salads, and plant-based options. ©Disney You can also grab French Fries of Butternut Squash Soup as a side. There are also some options for the kiddos, too! ©Disney There are also plenty of desserts to choose from, including The Mara Cupcake and ZEBRA DOMES! ©Disney The Mara also offers some fresh fruit and a variety of snack options. ©Disney Can’t forget about the drinks! You can choose from various beverages like fountain drinks or bottled soda. ©Disney There are also specialty coffees and hot beverages available. ©Disney Or, if you are looking for something with some alcohol, you will find a variety of beer… ©Disney …as well as wine. ©Disney And there are even some cocktails, like a Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Frozen Slush with rum or vodka. ©Disney And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we grabbed the Oak-grilled Chicken Bowl for $13.29. It is marinated chicken thighs, pilau rice, kale slaw, cucumber-tomato salad, and chermoula sour cream. The chicken was juicy and tender. While it didn’t have a lot of flavor to it, the rest of the bowl definitely packed the flavor. Oak-grilled Chicken Bowl The rice was seasoned well and had flavors of cumin and cardamom. The kale slaw had a sweet dressing on it that helped cut the bitterness of the kale. You will also find a tomato and cucumber salad that has a light vinegary taste to it, as well as a chickpea salad with olives. But one of our favorite parts of the bowl was the chermoula sour cream. It was creamy and full of flavor. We tasted cilantro and parsley, and it really helped bring the whole bowl together. Oak-grilled Chicken Bowl Next, we tried the Fire-roasted Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread for $12.79. It is made with fire-roasted tomatoes, herbed ricotta, tomato sauce, cheese blend, and sun-dried tomato vinaigrette tossed arugula. While the tomato sauce and cheese are about what you would expect on a flatbread, the herbed ricotta and fire-roasted tomatoes take the flatbread to the next level. Fire-roasted Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread The fire-roasted tomatoes are tender and juicy, with a lovely smoky flavor. The herbed ricotta is wonderfully creamy and herb-flavored. The arugula is dressed in a light dressing that is a bit hard to taste over the rest of the ingredients, but the arugula adds great freshness and peppery flavor to the flatbread. Fire-roasted Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread We also grabbed the Butternut Squash Soup for $4.79. You can also find this soup over at Boma! This is a very sweet butternut squash soup, but it definitely gives you all the cozy vibes. It is packed with warming spices like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Even though it was 85 degrees outside, we still couldn’t help but finish every bit of this soup. Butternut Squash Soup The soup has a great thickness, enough to stay on your spoon easily, but not so much that you feel like you are eating a mousse. The flavors of this soup reminded us of a pumpkin pie filling, but not as thick and not quite as sweet. However, we definitely feel like this soup is on the sweeter side. Butternut Squash Soup Finally, we couldn’t head to Animal Kingdom Lodge without grabbing one of our favorites: Zebra Domes. You will also find these at the buffet at Boma, but if you don’t want to commit to a buffet, you can also grab them at The Mara. It costs $4.59 and they are chocolate mousse baked with Amarula cream liquor-coated white chocolate drizzled with chocolate stripes and chocolate shavings. Zebra Domes These treats are popular, and for good reason! Even though we have had these guys so many times before, we still find ourselves loving them. You get four Zebra Domes in the container, so while there is enough to share, we don’t think you will want to share them. There is a small piece of vanilla cake on the bottom that is topped with a creamy, chocolatey mousse. All of that is covered in a soft white chocolate shell infused with cream liquor. Zebra Domes Then they are drizzled with chocolate and dipped in a few chocolate sprinkles. They are soft and pillowy and have a chocolate and a slight almost coffee flavor to them. However, the coffee flavor you taste is light. You are probably going to want four more of these guys after you finish the first four! Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You are staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, we think this will be a must-stop restaurant during your trip. Whether you are looking for a tasty breakfast, a quick lunch, or a lighter dinner, The Mara has some great and delicious options. You are looking for a tasty, quick bite and want to spot some animals. The food here was satisfying, and you could taste the African influence in much of it. But there are also options for pickier eaters. Plus, Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of our favorite places to walk around since you can see animals! Make sure to check out the animals before or after you dine. You want to grab Boma’s Zebra Domes or Butternut Squash Soup without committing to the whole buffet. It’s amazing to be able to get Zebra Domes and Butternut Squash Soup without having to worry about a whole buffet. There are just some days when a Zebra Dome will cure the blues, and The Mara is a perfect stop! You should skip this Disney World spot if… You are looking to see the animals at Animal Kingdom Lodge while you dine. There aren’t any good views from the restaurant itself, although you could take your food to go and walk over to an area where you can see animals. However, if you really want a glimpse at the animals while you are dining, we suggest heading over to Sanaa! You are looking for an elevated dining experience. The Mara is a quick-service location, so you will be getting your own food and waiting for your own table. While you will spot some beautiful murals on the walls, this won’t fit the bill if you are looking for an elevated dining experience. The good news is that Jiko is right around the corner, and it definitely fits the bill! You want a knock-your-socks off dining experience. The food was great, and we enjoyed the atmosphere, but this likely won’t make it in our top 10 places to eat at Disney World. The food has some unique flavors, but it likely won’t be a super memorable dining experience that you remember for years to come. Check out our favorite restaurants in Disney World right here. Overall Overall, we were really impressed with the food here! The Fire-roasted Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread is definitely something we would go back for, and our mouths are drooling all over again just writing about it. Plus, it is hard to beat being able to grab Zebra Domes without having to commit to the buffet at Boma. The food is tasty, although it isn’t anything crazy special that you should go way out of your way for. But if you happen to be nearby, this could be a great choice! While you can’t see the animals directly from the restaurant, this could be a great option for a quick and tasty bite in between your animal watching. A lovely meal at The Mara In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond.
