  2. Finding the perfect strategy to maximize your early entry time inside the Disney World parks can be a tedious task, but it’s not impossible! Early Entry With as often as we’re in Disney World’s parks and hotels, you can bet we’ve all had different opinions on what might work best for how we’re looking to get the best return on our extra time early in the morning inside Disney World’s parks. We’ve tested all kinds of ideas to help deliver the best tips and tricks to help you on your next visit, and these are the ones that work every time. You’ve spent a lot of time, money, and effort over weeks, months, and even years of planning your next Disney World vacation, and you’re not looking to let it all go to waste. Deciding to stay at one of Disney World’s hotels that allows for early park entry in the morning before the rest of the day’s visitors walk in may have been one of the very perks that help solidify your hotel decision. We were held up for a bit If getting into any of Disney World’s parks 30 minutes early to make the best use of your time with this perk sounds like your way of getting your day started, we’ve gathered a few of our best early entry strategies that have worked the best! It’s All About Transportation If you’re looking to visit EPCOT for early entry, starting your day off at the International Gateway’s park entrance could feel like an illegal move — especially if your hotel isn’t one that’s within walking distance to it. Inside the Disney Skyliner But, taking the skyliner, a series of buses, or opting for a ride share service that would put you at the back entrance of EPCOT could set you up for success. By skipping right over to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure early in France, you could easily be avoiding one of the longest lines you would have experienced. Late Breakfast Or Brunch Is Hack Not someone who’s ready to eat breakfast as soon as your feet hit the ground in the morning? We can make that work in your favor. Ale & Compass Breakfast Buffet Consider booking your breakfast later in the morning, around 10AM or so. This way, you’re able to take full advantage of the early entry, round out your morning with a few more things around the park’s rope drop, and have worked up an appetite to enjoy a nice break for your family as the lines start to stack up. Midday Naps Wait — did we really just suggest a nap? Yep, we sure did! For optimum wait times, your best bet is to use this perk you’re already paying for and get a rested early start to your day. That view! By accomplishing a few of your “must-dos” early on, this leaves you time to head back to your hotel for a nap, a quick swim, and even a lengthier lunch or dinner before finishing out your day in the park later in the evening. Here’s a bonus tip: during the Summer, early morning and late evening are the best times to be outside in Florida to beat the heat and deal with the least amount of crowds. 4. Thirty years ago, California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort opened as Walt Disney World’s first signature dining experience, forever changing the landscape of Disney dining. Located on the 15th floor overlooking Magic Kingdom and Seven Seas Lagoon, this iconic restaurant quickly became popular for its fresh, seasonal menus, royal views of Cinderella Castle and one of the first open kitchens at the Resort. But beyond the contemporary cuisine, what truly makes California Grill special is the people. Crafting a Legacy from Day One to Today Leading up to opening night, a team was assembled with one key ingredient in mind – passion. “That opening team was really special, everyone brought a different talent and was constantly learning for each other,” Ray, an opening-day cast member, remembers. It’s that same passion that inspired Ray to craft one of California Grill’s most popular cocktails, the Monterey, or as his regulars call it the “Ray Ray”, which will be returning to this year’s limited-time anniversary menu. “We’re surrounded by the freshest ingredients,” Ray explains. “The Monterey was made with crushed blackberries and lemonade made from scratch. Since the beginning, California Grill has focused on excellence and that still comes through today with local and domestic sourced seasonal ingredients.” World Class Service Through the Years For opening-day server, Dale, his passion goes hand-in-hand with purpose. “We’re a part of the Disney culture and the world-class service we provide is something you don’t receive anywhere else,” Dale says. And it’s because of that spirit of service that Dale and other long-time Cast Members have created lifelong connections with guests. Over the decades, the California Grill team has welcomed families who first visited with their toddlers and now return with grandchildren alongside them. “Something special about Disney is that people come back and vacation year after year and I’ve gotten to see families grow up in front of my eyes,” says Walter, another opening-day server. “I’ve seen kids when they were seven or eight years old and now, they’re 35 visiting with children of their own! I think that’s the real kicker, this place has been here 30 years, and it’s given us an opportunity to build strong, amazing relationships with a lot of families.” That sense of connection, decades deep and deeply personal, is what continues to define California Grill. For many cast members, the memories they’ve shared with guests are cherished moments of their own. “Once, I waited on Roy E. Disney, Walt’s nephew. And after the fireworks I went over to the table, and he was crying a little bit, and he said, ‘I’ll tell you, Dale, I’ve seen these a ton of times, and it still gets me’…and that’s my favorite memory of 30 years.” Dale fondly recalls. Celebrating California Grill Since 1995 California Grill celebrates a legacy of excellence and care carried on by the passion of its cast members. Since 1995, they have set the stage for a new generation of signature dining at Walt Disney World; blending bold flavors and techniques into beautiful experience. With each new dish and every returning guest, its story continues to be written by the people who have made this restaurant special since that very first night. 5. If you’re heading to Orlando’s NEWEST theme park soon — Epic Universe, you’ll want to make sure you budget for this item. Epic Universe We already had the opportunity to visit Epic Universe a few times, and it’s safe to say we’re blown away. If you are planning a trip, there is more than just the tickets you’ll purchase. Of course, you’ll want to plan to grab some of those delicious snack items like the Butterbeer Crepe. But, there’s one purchase you probably aren’t planning for, but you should! We know that Universal provides lockers at attractions to hold your bag and belongings, but did you know there are also all-day lockers that you can purchase at the front of the park? That’s right. There are two sizes to choose from: family-size lockers measuring 11” x 17.75” x 17.7” and large lockers measuring 11” x 11.75” x 17.7” are available to rent near the park entrance. The family size locker is $20 while the large locker is $15 for the entire day. Celestial Park One of our team members recently went and used the family-size lockers to hold her belongings. She had brought an extra change of clothes because she knew she wanted to ride Fyre Drill in Isle of Berk and did not want to stay soaked all day. It also poured rain that day so having an extra change of clothes that she didn’t have to lug around with her all day was a big help! Celestial Park This area is very convenient because there is a bathroom located right next to the lockers. This bathroom can be utilized to change outfits easily. You can see on the map below where these lockers are located, circled in green. ©EpicUniverse If you are planning to change outfits between each land at Epic Universe, a locker could be a great idea. You might want to wear your Toothless shirt to Isle of Berk, but change into something different for Dark Universe. If you want to match the theme of each land, these lockers can hold your outfits! For the cost of $20, we think this is a good deal. Isle of Berk For more on Epic Universe, be sure to follow us at DFB! 9. You can’t hear the rumble of roller coasters in downtown Orlando, but thrill rides have a new presence there. Vekoma Rides, a manufacturing giant based in the Netherlands, has opened a North American office in the downtown business district. “This is the place to be in terms of theme parks, even though we work all over the U.S.,” said Ricardo Etges, vice president for sales and marketing for the Americas. Etges was Vekoma’s first Orlando-based employee. Now there are eight people working out of its office near the intersection of Orange Avenue and South Street, including research and development engineers. “We basically have an extension of our engineering department in the Netherlands,” Etges said. “In the Netherlands, we have between 250 and 300 people, and we found out that we can expand our engineering capacity with local resources in Orlando.” The company, founded in 1926, originally made farm equipment and later steel products for the coal-mining and petrochemical industries. It started shifting to amusement park rides in the 1970s and in 2019 decided to focus more on North American markets. In March, Vekoma opened the Flash: Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. It’s the first “super boomerang” style coaster in the western world, Etges said. Coming up is Siren’s Curse, a tilt coaster under construction at Cedar Point in Ohio. It’s “a traditional lift-hill coaster with the seesaw element on top,” Etges said. “The train parks in the horizontal position, and there is a track section that goes from horizontal to vertical, like a seesaw. And then once it locks on the vertical position, it releases a train.” Among its Florida coasters are Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as well as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tron / Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom plus Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which debuted in 2022. It has also produced rides for Universal Orlando and Legoland Florida. The move into Orlando was designed to help expand the business in Central Florida and to become “more proactive and present to our clients,” Etges said. “A roller coaster is almost like you have a long-term relationship with the park,” he said. “Because the roller coaster is not only about installing the ride and making sure that the ride is up and running, but also keeping the ride up and running and reliable for decades.” Other plusses for a Central Florida office include proximity to parks (“We actually had a field trip to Epic [Universe]”), vendors, potential employees and November’s IAAPA Expo at Orange County Convention Center, Etges said. “We usually have 15 to 20 people from our team coming from the Netherlands, and we have a lot of meetings with clients,” at the Expo, he said. “We usually have at least one vehicle being showcased” on the convention center floor, which is produced by Orlando-based International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, he said. There are other projects in the works, but they remain hush-hush. “We always need to wait until the park announces the ride to be able to start to talk about it,” Etges said. “But at IAAPA this year, we’re going to have some surprises.” Email me at dbevil@orlandosentinel.com. 10. After a few trips to Epic Universe, the new Universal Orlando theme park, a list of should-have-packed items emerged. Some of these goods are attraction staples or everyday “life in Florida” materials. Some are just good planning strategies. Some are more necessary at Epic than at other locations. Although these are recommended for most Orlando outings, here’s why they should be considered Epic essentials. Skin game Wear sunscreen, Momma always said, and Momma knows best. Make it a high-number SPF, too. Epic’s debut comes on the dawn of what will likely be another blazing Florida summer. The new theme park, which officially opens May 22, is not what you’d call shady at this point. That’s most apparent in Celestial Park, which leads to the four other lands and is the required route when walking from world to world. No trams, monorails or Hogwarts Express will save you. When the sun is at its highest, Epic visitors stand inside buildings, in nooks, in crannies, in that sliver of shade next to buildings for relief. Going without sunscreen practically guarantees sunburn. And be aware when reapplications are needed. Other hot-weather recommendations: sunglasses, cooling towels, collapsible water bottles for hydration. The park has multiple vertical water stations that make refilling easy. Power moves There are reasons to believe that smartphone use will go up at Epic, so a portable charger may boost confidence in the idea of continuous power. The official Universal Orlando app not only reveals wait times for rides and schedules for shows and meet-and-greets but a healthy chunk of Epic food ordering (and payment) is done there, too. The virtual line, used during previews for the Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry ride, also is run through the app. Word on the street has been that some users found success with the electronic queue by attempting to secure slots at times in addition to the ones posted by the park. Your results may vary, but that method sure can drain a battery. Heat is no friend of phone batteries either. A nice recharging near a shady plug could be a welcome break. Some Epic Universe visitors may prioritize browsing through Paris and sipping a butterbeer at Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)Making a list Epic Universe will be a new experience for most people, and folks may not be able to complete all their missions in a single day. So a priority list should be, well, a priority. It can be old-school paper or digital on that phone. The park has 11 rides (including four roller coasters) and two stage shows that are scheduled for multiple performances a day. There also are new restaurants to consider. Scoping Epic online then clumping the Day One must-dos land by land cuts down on walk time crisscrossing Celestial Park. Everyone has different needs. Maybe save the potentially wettest ride (Fyre Drill in How to Train Your Dragon) for on your way out? Maybe Dark Universe is best after sunset? Maybe your group needs a chunk of quality time in the 1920s Parisian setting of Wizarding World of Harry Potter or the tempting inside queue of Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry? Dragon Racer’s Rally is one Epic Universe ride that requires sturdy shoes. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)Sensible shoes Choose footwear wisely. As at many theme parks, there’s walking to be done. A couple of rides – Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Dragon Racer’s Rally — put passengers into dangling-legs positions, so shoes that could fall off are not allowed. We’re looking at you and your flip-flops and Crocs. There are also plenty of stairs (CoughNintendoCough) to conquer, so support is key. There have also been some slippery-when-wet reports, but … welcome to Florida. Power-Up Bands unlock gameplay within Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe. (Patrick Connolly/Orlando Sentinel)Getting into the game Gamers should be aware that to take full advantage of the interactivity offered in Super Nintendo World, an investment in a Power-Up Band is needed. The wristbands are sold inside Epic for $42, and they activate games and effects attached to that world’s trademark ? Blocks. Complete enough challenges and become eligible for the Bowser Jr. Shadow Showdown. On the other hand, Power-Up Bands are not required to wander around Super Nintendo World or ride its attractions. Back to backpacks OK, perhaps this one is counterintuitive after reeling off a list of essentials. But small backpacks are great for the little attraction lockers and for your aching back. Maybe throw in a couple of other goodies like a power bar or a small umbrella. Floridians should embrace the power of the parasol more. New and notes • The Universal Studios Store expansion at Universal CityWalk has opened, featuring more Nintendo and Harry Potter floor space. But even newsier news: It has butterbeer for sale. 13. It’s time to get SPOOKY. Halloween in Magic Kingdom Okay, okay, it’s actually NOT, but we’re already thinking ahead to the Halloween season in Disney World now that we’ve got some dates AND details about this year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Now this year’s party will see a lot of returning entertainment, character meet and greets, and activities. BUT some new additions have been added to the party this year, so let’s dive into those NEW things. It’s likely this NEW version of Jack will bring even longer lines for the Jack and Sally meet and greet at the party, but we can’t wait to see his new look in person. Zombies Dance Party For fans of the Zombies movies, you’ll be able to dance the night away with the music from Zombies 4, as well as other Zombies movies. Costumes from Zombies 4 Break out your best Zombies dance moves, y’all! Price increase and later dates So this year has also brought something we’re NOT super thrilled about. Prices for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party depend on the date, but now the price for the most in-demand dates has gone up. Last year’s price for party tickets ranged from $119 to $199. This year’s price, though, ranges from $119 to $229, meaning those high-demand dates now cost $30 more! Ouch. 2024 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party welcome sign We also noticed that this year’s parties are starting a little later. They usually start the second weekend of August, but this year’s parties start on the third weekend of August. However, there are still the same number of parties as there were last year. CONFIRMED: PRICE INCREASE Hits Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Disney World Mickey and Minnie Now, at previous parties, you could meet Mickey and Minnie in their Halloween outfits, but they usually met separately. Well, this year, for the first time EVER, Mickey and Minnie will be meeting party guests together in their Halloween outfits at Tony’s Town Square Theater. Mickey at his very own 2024 Not-So-Scary Halloween Party This is generally where Mickey meets guests during the day, but if you want to meet the STARS of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you’ll want to make sure to make time to stop by when the party starts. Possibly a new place to drink and eat? We’ve added this as a bonus, even though it is not officially confirmed just yet. This year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party could see a brand new place opened in Magic Kingdom with food and drinks. Yep, that Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge, The Beak and Barrel, may very well be open during the party. Okay, so we don’t know this for sure, and Disney has only said The Beak and Barrel will be open in late 2025, but it COULD happen. Here’s the thing, though: originally, The Beak and Barrel website had information detailing it would be open during the party…but Disney later took that info. down. Make of that what you will. ©Disney So, what does this mean if it is actually open this fall? Well, considering it’s probably going to be hard to get into that lounge on a regular park day, a lot of folks may be using the party to get access to the lounge, meaning it could be hard to get into during the limited ticket event, too. So this year’s party is looking to be EVEN better. If you’re interested, tickets go on sale for select Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests on May 15th and to the general public on May 22nd. Tickets are limited, and many dates sell out quickly! Stay tuned to DFB for more. 14. It’s almost summer, so we are beating the heat (and the rain) the best way we know how — with soft serve! Disney Springs We got caught in a rainstorm and thought nothing would make us happier than a bit of ice cream while we waited it out. We slid over to Swirls on the Water at Disney Springs to try a new cone offering, which you’ll want to add to your snack list. Swirls on the Water is in the Marketplace at Disney Springs and offers soft-serve and Dole Whip. That’s right, you can get the Dole Whip you love without needing a park ticket. Swirls on the Water We tried the Salted Blue Corn Cone for $6.49. We had our choice of vanilla, strawberry, pineapple, lime, coconut, and mango, and went with the lime and mango swirled together. Keep in mind that because of the machines, there are only certain flavors that can be swirled together. Salted Blue Corn Cone When we took a bite (a lick?), the flavors reminded us of sherbet! Neither flavor was too strong, but the mango brought sweetness, and the lime brought tartness, but not enough for your face to scrunch up. We loved the balance between the two flavors. There were even sprinkles on the edges stuck on the cone with chocolate, and we loved the crunch! Lime and Mango What about that corn cone? It tasted like a traditional cone, but it was a gorgeous, vibrant blue with a stronger savory flavor. It isn’t overwhelmingly corn, which is a nice thing when it comes to ice cream, but it has the same level of corn as tortillas or popcorn. While it was more savory than normal, it doesn’t hit you over the head with heartiness, but plays a little bit of sweet and savory together. The cone! It felt adventurous to eat a savory cone, but the flavors were still familiar enough for the whole family to enjoy. It was a lovely twist on normal soft-serve but still hits that ice cream sweet spot. While it’s called Salted Blue Corn Cone, it wasn’t very salty and matched the ice cream well. Summer is around the corner and we’re so excited to be trying all the summer snacks at Disney World. Keep following Disney Food Blog for more snack and restaurant reviews. 16. Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary has officially begun, and we’re thrilled we’re getting to check out everything the parks have to offer for this monumental event! Time to celebrate 70 years! We’ve seen the new decorations on Sleeping Beauty Castle, and are looking forward to checking out all the entertainment you can experience during this summertime event. We’ve been excited about this all day, and now it’s finally time — we’re checking out the new World of Color Happiness! show in Disney California Adventure! The new World of Color Happiness! show happens twice a night at 9 PM and 10:15 PM and takes place at Paradise Bay right in front of Incredicoaster. This is where the usual World of Color show happens each night as well, but to celebrate the event, a new show is taking its place for the summer. Pixar Pier at night We can’t forget one of the best parts though — there’s a Muppets pre-show! Kermit the Frog, Gonzo and other Muppet friends step into the spotlight to share safety information in a fun and silly song-and-dance number projected across the World of Color fountains. The Muppets pre-show Yes, this may be the greatest night of our lives. We even got to see Sam the Eagle, which made us feel VERY patriotic. Sam the Eagle Gonzo even turns up, but um…does he really know a lot about safety? I’m not sure he’s the best person…err…Muppet… to be giving this safety briefing… What are you doing, Gonzo? Wocka, Wocka! Fozzie! Let the show begin! This new show is inspired by Walt Disney’s words from the opening-day dedication of Disneyland 70 years ago: “To all who come to this happy place… welcome!” During the show, the emotion of happiness is explored through many different emotions, and is hosted by none other than Joy and her fellow emotion buddies from Inside Out and Inside Out 2. Joy and the Inside Out 2 emotions host World of Color Happiness Featuring fountains, unique lighting, colorful lasers, fog, and dramatic flame effects, this show will feature scenes from many of your favorite Disney and Pixar films, such as Turning Red, The Incredibles, A Goofy Movie, Tangled, Encanto, and more. You’ll see a lot of familiar faces, like Dumbo… Dumbo …Lady and the Tramp… ICONIC scene …Pooh…and more! Silly old bear One of our favorite parts about this show is that YOU can influence part of it by voting which emotion — Sadness, Anger, Disgust, or Envy — gets a special spotlight in the show that night. Who will it be? If you’ve ever seen World of Color, you’ll know how special of a show it is. Well, it’s even more special now, and you’ll want to make sure to catch it the next time you visit Disney California Adventure. Looking for more recent Disneyland Resort news? 17. Every year, dedicated horror fans count down the days until Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights event begins. It’s a time for dark stories, terrifying characters, and big scares. You never know who may be lurking around the corner! But what if we told you that you could experience the terror of Halloween Horror Nights ANY time of year? Well, soon, that nightmarish scenario will become a reality! Universal Horror Unleashed is opening in Las Vegas! ©Universal Universal Horror Unleashed is a 40-acre immersive entertainment district and events destination. Universal teased horror like you’ve never seen before, “encountering unimaginable monstrous creatures lurking around every corner.” Ooh — spooky! Look out for four themed immersive areas and four haunted houses. This brand-new attraction will officially open on August 14th, 2025. Are you ready? You’re not ready. Now, as we mentioned, this attraction will host four haunted houses. The haunted houses are inspired by: Universal Monsters Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer Texas Chainsaw Massacre Scarecrow: The Reaping ©Universal OK, horror fans, intrigued yet? Universal just shared a new preview of one of its houses, so be prepared to be WOWED by the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre house. ©Universal As you may have guessed, this new house is based on the 1974 horror film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Universal teased that this haunted house will bring the original film to life for the first time in a linear sequence, and visitors will make their way through the horrifying scenes and encounter iconic characters. ©Universal The story begins in a Texan cemetery, followed by an encounter with the Old Man at the dusty gas station featured in the infamous barbecue scene. From there, you will enter the infamous dilapidated home and come face-to-face with Leatherface and every member of his deranged family. AHHH! ©Universal The experience continues in Kill Vault, one of the four themed immersive areas within Universal Horror Unleashed. Here, you’ll want to be aware of your surroundings — the area is filled with rusty knives and machetes, plus you might encounter a strange surgeon or a psychotic slasher. EEK! Universal also teased new details about Rough Cuts, where you can feast on “chainsaw” carved small plates as you “witness a variety of show moments.” Dinner and a show, anyone? Speaking of — you can also visit Jack’s Alley Bar, themed to Horror Nights icon Jack the Clown. This spot will feature specialty-themed cocktails and acrobatic performances in a “circus-like hellscape” environment. ©Universal In addition to the themed bars and food locations, there will also be a retail location with unique collectible merchandise. And that’s just a taste of the MANY themed areas and experiences available at this new year-round horror fest. Who’s in? Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased online at UniversalHorrorUnleashed.com. You can see more info below: General Admission (Unlimited Access): $99 Includes unlimited admission to all four haunted houses for the selected date and time General Admission (One-Time Access): $69 Includes one-time entry to each haunted house for the selected date and time In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest news and updates about Universal Horror Unleashed. 18. When you’re heading to Disney World, it can feel overwhelming to try and figure out what you need to pack. Magic Kingdom Sure, you know you need to pack the usuals — clothing, your MagicBands and ears, anything you need to get a good night’s sleep, but beyond that, there are essentials you need in the parks you may not realize until you get there. If you’re heading to Disney World soon, this is the ONE essential you absolutely need for each park AND WHY! DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Magic Kingdom — A Portable Charger INIU Portable Charger Here’s the thing — we’re not saying you DON’T need an INIU Portable Charger in the other parks, but Magic Kingdom has the most attractions, meaning you may be booking more Lightning Lanes throughout the day than other parks and/or modifying them, and being arguably the most “iconic” park of them all, you may be taking a LOT of photos and videos. That wears out your phone battery quickly, so we say a portable charger is most important in this park, and we absolutely love this one — multiple of our reporters use it day in and day out with no issues. Grab it here! EPCOT — Clean Those Hands! ©Amazon EPCOT is known for its fantastic eats, both in and out of festival season, and that means you’re going to want to make sure your hands are as clean as they can be before you eat all those snacks. Yes, running to a bathroom and actually washing your hands is ideal, but sometimes there’s no time for that, so the Touchland Power Mist Hydrating Hand Sanitizer Spray is the next best thing. We love the design, the smell of these, and that the aloe vera in them helps to moisturize your skin as well! Grab it here! Disney’s Hollywood Studios — Keep Yourself COOL! Sukeen 4 Pack Cooling Towel If you’re ever been in Hollywood Studios on a hot day, you know exactly where we’re going with this. Although there are shaded places in the park, some of the lines for the most popular attractions are RIGHT out in the sun, OR they’re outdoors for the majority of the queue, and when it’s hot out, you need a way to keep cool. That’s why we say the Sukeen Cooling Towels are a must-have for this park — trust us, we’ve been there — you’ll regret not having one! Grab it here! Disney’s Animal Kingdom — You Wanna Talk About Sun? Supergoop! Considering a large part of Animal Kingdom is made to recreate a savanna, which are normally VERY HOT and without much shade, we’re saying that Sunscreen is the number one essential for this park. This park often feels the hottest to many people, and there’s not as much shade as we would like (but thankfully, the majority of attraction lines are at least under shaded cover), so we’re begging you to make sure you’re wearing your sunscreen and REAPPLYING to avoid being burnt! Grab it here! Be sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World essentials and news — we want to be sure you’re as prepared as possible for your trip! 20. We just went to EPCOT for a little treat for Disney Annual Passholders! EPCOT If you’ve been keeping up to date with us, you probably know that May 14th was the drop date for the NEW Passholder magnet. Well, check your calendars, Disney fans, because the time has finally come! We had to rush over to EPCOT to guarantee we got this thing, and the more we look at it, the more obsessed we’re becoming! When we got to EPCOT, we could see the sign posted up by the Creations Shop indicating where the Passholder magnet would be. It’s the sign!! There was a line, as expected, but it moved pretty quickly! Check out the line Everyone was pretty excited for this magnet, and why wouldn’t they be!? It’s not often a Disney villain is the face of an Annual Passholder magnet, let alone a fan-favorite villain and arguably the most iconic Disney villain EVER! Everyone is going to want this magnet! If you plan on going to pick up the magnet, you’ll want to head over to the Creations Shop! That’s where all the Passholder magnet distribution happens at EPCOT. Before you hop in line, be prepared to show your Annual Pass card, linked MagicBand, MagicBand+, or Disney MagicMobile pass, and a government-issued photo ID. Also, you must be present to pick up your own magnet. Here she is! And, here she is! This one has to be up there as one of our favorite Annual Passholder magnets to date. Disney has honestly been on a roll with their magnets — choosing great designs, colors, and fan-favorite characters! The “D” of the magnet is in Maleficent’s iconic green color. She has a menacing smirk on her face — who knows what she’s plotting next? Look at this magnet! She really does have that classic style to her, looking exactly like her animated self from Disney’s classic movie Sleeping Beauty. The magnet should be around for a little bit, however, these are available while supplies last. So, we wouldn’t wait too long to go pick this up at the park. 22. Disney World is bringing on twice the amount of fun this month because two new shows are opening on the same day, and we couldn’t be more excited for Hollywood Studios to have even more entertainment offerings. Hollywood Studios We’ve been waiting and waiting to walk into the theater and be transported into a whole new world with our favorite characters, and now it’s almost time! The Little Mermaid—A Musical Adventure and Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After will open in Hollywood Studios on May 27th. ©Disney Unfairly Ever After is located on Sunset Boulevard, where Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy used to be. The theater has been transformed into the “realm of the Magic Mirror—where dozens of villains are trapped.” The show will include new songs from Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent, and the audience will help decide who has been treated most unfairly. ©Disney A Little Mermaid show might sound familiar to you, and that’s because Voyage of the Little Mermaid, which started in 1992, was in the same theater in Animation Courtyard. It never reopened after the 2020 closures but has instead been reimagined as The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure. The upcoming revamped Little Mermaid show The Little Mermaid show will run from 9:15 AM to 7:15 PM, and Unfairly Ever After will have showtimes from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. 23. Things are changing at Hollywood Studios, and there are some new procedures to keep in mind during your next visit. Disney’s Hollywood Studios The park formerly known as Disney/MGM Studios is about to enter a period of massive transformation, as the former Muppets Courtyard — including Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo — is set to close forever in mid-June to make way for a Monsters, Inc. land. However, the Muppets won’t be gone for long, as the characters are moving across the park to take over the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster from Aerosmith. All of these changes are creating a new set of unofficial rules to follow at the park. DON'T DO IT ALONE! Our favorite people over at Small World Vacations are ready to help you save time, headaches, and best of all, money, when you book your Disney trip or cruise. (They're DFB's recommended travel agency, and you can see why here!) So book that trip now, then sit back and enjoy planning your Disney World Trip with a DFB-approved expert! Click here for a no obligation price quote today, and let them know DFB sent you GET MORE INFO Table Service Shortage In addition to the shuttering of Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo, the closure of the former Muppet Courtyard area also led to the permanent closure of Mama Melrose, one of Hollywood Studios oldest table service restaurants. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano With the stalwart Italian restaurant’s closure, Hollywood Studios’ roster of table service restaurants is down to 50’s Prime Time Cafe, Hollywood & Vine, Hollywood Brown Derby, Roundup Rodeo BBQ, and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. It’s important to keep that in mind when planning ahead. 50s Prime Time Cafe Catch Aerosmith’s Final Encore If you want to bid farewell to Aerosmith before the Muppets evict the “Bad Boys of Boston” from their ride, we’d suggest prioritizing the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, maybe even with a Lightning Lane. We’re already seeing wait times increase for the ride as it nears its closure. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster As of writing, a closing date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has not been announced. Construction Bottleneck These new procedures extend to crowd flow issues caused by construction. Once the former Muppet Courtyard closes to transform into Monster’s, Inc. Land, that will likely lead to bottlenecking in the Grand Avenue area near the Rise of the Resistance entrance to Galaxy’s Edge. Perhaps it would be best to use the Toy Story Land entrance to Galaxy’s Edge instead. The entrance to Galaxy’s Edge Go Under the Sea! Not all these new procedures are construction-related, though! May 27th will see the addition of not one, but TWO new shows to Hollywood Studios. First up is The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, a new take on the park’s classic Little Mermaid show. That show will run from 9:15 AM through 7:15 PM each day, and also feature Lightning Lane access. ©Disney Unfairly Ever After, a Disney Villains-themed show featuring “spellbinding show with moving music and a most memorable finale—where you help decide who has been treated most unfairly,” will also premiere on the 27th. ©Disney There are some big changes going on at Hollywood Studios right now, and in turn, some new rules to keep in mind. Disclosure: In nearly all circumstances, Disney Food Blog writers and photographers pay full price for their own travel, hotel, food, beverage, and event tickets. We do this because it’s important to us as journalists to ensure not only that we give you unbiased opinions, but also that you can trust us to do so since we’re paying our own way. On rare occasions, when we are invited by a company to attend a preview as media, and when we choose to accept that invitation, we will always make you, our readers, aware of that situation. Today, we were invited by Disneyland to attend their media preview of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration. Note that when we attend events as media we are 1) Not required to review that event/food on any of our channels, and 2) Not required to review that event/food favorably. You can always count on DFB to give you a 100% unbiased and honest review of any event that we attend, food that we eat, or beverage that we drink. You can see more in our Disclosure Policy.
