  6. When it comes to Disney World, there are so many special experiences that you might not know about! Tree of Life If you’re looking for new Disney experiences that not everyone has, Animal Kingdom is a great place to start. Not only can you get a unique experience, you might even learn a thing or two (and don’t we all love edutainment?!) We’re diving into Caring for Giants to see if it’s worth your time and money on your next trip to see the mouse. Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, things can get pretty wild! There are several amazing attractions, underrated delicious food options, and behind-the-scenes tours that will blow you away. One of those tours is Caring for Giants! This tour is an hour-long experience where you can get even closer to the African Elephants that call Animal Kingdom their home. Elephants on Kilimanjaro Safaris This tour is an additional fee, but it’s only $39 per person, which feels like a steal in Disney World. To start off our tour, we checked in for our designated time at the Animal Tours booth right outside of Kilimanjaro Safaris. There, we met our tour guide, and they kicked off the experience. Tour check-in! This tour started by taking us backstage (behind the scenes in the parks), where we couldn’t snap any pictures. We spotted the 45 Kilimanjaro trucks used on the attraction before we started driving behind the ride itself! They gave us some cool insight (like that road behind is called Perimeter Road), and we got to see the animal barns (aka the animal enclosures). A view of the enclosures from the Wild Life Express Train While we were backstage, we also spotted different piles of labeled soil and rocks. They also taught us about the 60 acres of land outside of the theme park where they care for the land and animals. For the different animals on property, they grow 8 different types of leafy greens to feed them, and we got a sneak peek at their greenhouses. They even shared that 85% of their animal food is grown on property, how cool is that?! Behind the scenes The tour continued by passing the conservation building, the Wildlife Express Train, and the Kilimanjaro trucks throughout the experience. Disney houses two different types of elephants, African and Asian. There are 9 elephants total at Animal Kindom and they can even tell their birthday by their poop sample. (Suddenly, we’re glad we don’t work at Animal Kingdom.) A sample! The elephants get their teeth brushed every night (okay, maybe we do want to work here?), and they even show you up close examples of their teeth and hair from their tails. Elephant teeth! When designing the park, the AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) helped Disney design the park for the desired animals in mind (specifically elephants!) A super funny tidbit they shared on the tour is that the theme park’s newest baby, Tucker the giraffe, likes the other animals, so they had to make a new fence so he wouldn’t jump into the elephant section. Sorry, Tucker, you have to pay the $39 like the rest of us. Tucker on Kilimanajro Safaris! Our tour guide shared that there are 24-hour zookeepers and vets at the park to care for the animals. While the animals can come inside at night, they don’t have to! If they want, they can stay on the Savanna at night, which we didn’t realize. Do you think the animals feel like it’s a sleepover if they don’t go into their enclosures? Elephant tail hair! When it comes to the elephants specifically, our tour guide gave us tons of neat insight. For example, the palm tree holding the hay is fake, so Disney can adjust the height as needed! They make it higher so the elephants will stretch their tusks, which is good for them. Kinda like us, gotta stretch to keep the body in good shape. They also feed them 4 different types of hay to mix up their diets. Expect Mack, he also gets oat hay for his arthritis and cold therapy when needed. (Us too, Mack.) The elephants! To earn their sweet potatoes and apple treats, the caregivers make all of the elephants do yoga. Do you think that class has any open spots for us? They also shared fun information on each elephant. Luna, for example, loves apple juice! A look at the big girls and guys! The tour itself puts you roughly 80-100 feet away from the elephants, but it isn’t guaranteed that you will see a ton of these large creatures. They’re real animals, capable of making their own choices, and if they choose to hide behind the giant trees, they can. The Elephant Team only cares for the elephants, so they get lots of special care and attention. Info during the tour All proceeds from this tour go to elephant conservation (because it’s very important!), and Disney shared examples of the work being done. In Africa (the real continent), they are building roadways with grass on top so that the elephants can travel more easily. Are they mooning us? This tour was incredibly insightful and well worth the price! It went quickly, but the Cast Member who served as our tour guide was so knowledgeable, and she really took her time answering every question that was asked. She knew every single elephant and could identify different traits in each of them. This paper is made from elephant poop fibers! Going backstage was also a really unique part of this experience, but if you don’t want the Disney magic ruined, you might want to skip this. While we wouldn’t say this is something worth doing every time you go to the park, we would say this is a super affordable, special experience that is worth doing at least once. Even more elephants! 10. Disney just recently dropped some HUGE announcements with its recent second-quarter 2025 earnings call. ©Disney We learned a lot about how the company was doing financially, as well as how well its streaming services were doing, as well as how the theme parks were doing. However, Disney dropped a MAJOR news bomb, as well, when it announced it was building an entirely new theme park in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The company revealed some of the plans it has for that new theme park, so we’re going to dive into everything we know so far. Collaboration Disney will be working with Miral, an Abu Dhabi company that creates destinations and experiences, to bring the new theme park to life. Miral will fully develop and build the new resort while Disney and its Imagineers will lead creative design and operational oversight. ©Miral The resort will be operated by Miral. Location Disney revealed that the Abu Dhabi theme park would be located on Yas Island on the waterfront. Yas Island is a “world-class destination for entertainment and leisure, connecting travelers from the Middle East and Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and beyond.” Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences said, “The location of our park is incredibly unique – anchored by a beautiful waterfront – which will allow us to tell our stories in completely new ways.” ©Miral Yas Island has several other theme parks, too, including Ferrari World, which is home to the world’s fastest roller coaster. The Island is also home to Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, CLYMB Abu Dhabi, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi. Timeline So when will this new theme park be opening? In an interview with CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “We’re not pinning down a date yet. It typically takes us between 18 months and two years to design and fully develop and approximately five years to build but we’re not making any commitments right now.” ©Disney If that is the timeline for building the new park, it seems like it could be opening around 2032, give or take. Accommodations and Shopping/Dining Disney also revealed that the new resort will offer signature Disney-themed accommodations, meaning that visitors will be able to stay in special themed hotels on or near the resort. ©Disney Disney also promised signature entertainment, as well as “unique dining and retail experiences.” So expect to see new restaurants and shopping venues for the Abu Dhabi resort, too. Disney says that the new resort will feature “storytelling in a way that celebrates both the heritage of Disney and the futuristic and cultural essence of Abu Dhabi.” We’ll be looking for even more details about the new theme park, so stay tuned to DFB for more. 11. Yes, you read that right — there’s a million-dollar sundae at Disney World now. The Cake Bake Shop Well, technically it’s not a million dollars, but it feels like it belongs in a billionaire’s dessert cart. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers just dropped a new sundae on the menu, and it’s got that over-the-top sparkle we’ve come to expect from the fanciest restaurant on Disney property. We got a reservation the second we heard about it — and trust us, this is the kind of treat you’ll want to know about before you book your next Disney trip. So, if you’ve ever strolled around the BoardWalk and laid eyes on The Cake Bake Shop, you already know this place isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a full-on vibe. We’re talking chandeliers and desserts that look like they were made for a royal tea party. It’s not cheap, but hey, it’s Disney — and this place leans into that luxurious, dreamy energy HARD. The Cake Bake Shop Now, the newest showstopper on their menu is the Millionaire Sundae, and spoiler: it’s as rich as it sounds. This isn’t your basic theme park ice cream cup — this thing is layered, decadent, and honestly? Pretty photogenic. Millionaire Sundae Here’s what you get: a homemade brownie (and yes, you can choose gluten-free or walnut), your choice of housemade ice cream (vanilla or chocolate), plus chocolate sauce, caramel drizzle, whipped cream, and shortbread cookie pieces crumbled over the top. And just when you think it can’t get any more extra, they finish it off with a healthy pour of Ghirardelli chocolate. It’s like if a Millionaire Bar from your favorite bakery had a glow-up and moved to Beverly Hills. Look at that brownie! Now, before you get sticker shock, let’s talk price — because this sundae has two options. You can grab the standard version for $16.99, which is honestly pretty fair for a massive dessert at one of the most upscale restaurants on Disney property. Or you can opt for the $74.99 version that comes in a fancy porcelain Swan Boat you can take home. Yeah, that part’s kinda wild. It’s very cute and very bougie, but unless you’re collecting pink porcelain keepsakes, we think the $17 version is the sweet spot. We LOVED this ice cream Flavor-wise? It’s a knockout. We tried the vanilla ice cream with the walnut brownie, and every bite was a swirl of warm brownie, melty caramel, buttery shortbread, and cold, rich vanilla. This thing is sweet, yes, but it’s also super well-balanced. The brownie adds a dense, chewy texture that works so well with the creamy ice cream and crisp shortbread. It’s not one of those “looks good but tastes like nothing” desserts — this thing DELIVERS. Millionaire Sundae What surprised us the most is how shareable it is. Like, you could absolutely split this with someone (if you’re nice like that). And for folks who’ve been eyeing those $22 cake slices on the menu but don’t want to commit to a sugar bomb that intense, this sundae is a great alternative. Still decadent, still indulgent, but a little easier to manage. And way easier on your wallet. So good! Here’s the one big heads-up: you can’t get this sundae at the bakery counter. It’s a restaurant-only item, so if you’re thinking of just popping in for a quick dessert to go, you’re out of luck. You’ll need to book a reservation, sit down, and really take in the whole experience — and honestly? That’s kind of the point. The Cake Bake Shop isn’t just about eating dessert — it’s about making dessert feel like an event. And this sundae fits right into that philosophy. It’s rich, it’s a little ridiculous, and it’s exactly the kind of treat that makes you go, “Okay, this is what Disney food is really about.” Millionaire Sundae If you’ve got a sweet tooth, a love for all things over-the-top, or you just want to treat yourself to something a little fancier on your next trip, go ahead and add this one to your must-try list. And who knows — you might just feel like a millionaire while you’re digging into it. The Cake Bake Shop WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! 13. The Walt Disney Company is building a seventh landmark theme park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). ©Disney The new resort will be located on Yas Island, a spot known for entertainment and tourism, and Disney has announced it will partner with Miral Group to bring it to life. Although fans have been begging for a new Disney park for a while, the announcement has proven controversial — largely because of the strict laws the UAE is known for. Disney’s Abu Dhabi announcement revealed a new partnership with Miral, “Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences.” Disney Imagineers will lead creative design and operational oversight of the park, but the new resort will be fully funded, developed, and built by Miral (similarly to how Tokyo Disney Resort operates). Miral — which is a branch of the Abu Dhabi government — has developed other attractions in Abu Dhabi, such as SeaWorld Yas Island, Warner Bros. World Yas Island, and more. The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, announced an agreement to create a landmark Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The waterfront resort will be located on Yas Island, a world-class destination for entertainment and leisure, connecting travelers from the Middle East and Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and beyond. This seventh Disney theme park resort will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture. This new Disney resort will be located on Yas Island, a spot known for entertainment and tourism. It is expected to connect travelers from the Middle East and Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and more. According to Disney, the theme park “will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture.” Disney pointed out that the UAE is located within a four-hour flight of one-third of the world’s population, “making it a significant gateway for tourism.”According to Travel and Tour World, India is one of the largest sources of tourism for the UAE. ©Disney During the May 7th Disney earnings call, just shortly after the new park was announced, CEO Bob Iger said, “This is a thrilling moment for our company as we announce plans to build an exciting Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, whose culture is rich with an appreciation of the arts and creativity.” He continued, “We did study the region very carefully and we know that we had many opportunities…Obviously, building a theme park in a location is a huge endorsement of that location. It speaks volumes in terms of the ability of that location to sustain a theme park.” ©Disney However, the response to the announcement has been mixed. While some fans are excited — especially those living near the new park — others are concerned about Disney partnering with a government that seems to go against what Disney has previously maintained as a goal: inclusivity. On Disney’s original Instagram announcement, people flocked to the comment section to make their disappointment known, with comments about how unsafe the location is for many Disney fans and admonishing Disney for seemingly forgoing its commitment to inclusion for all. ©Disney Iger’s recent comments on building a Disney park in Abu Dhabi is a shift from past comments he made at a Council on Foreign Relations event in 2018, when he shared that the Saudi crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, made an “impassioned plea” for Disney to build a theme park in his kingdom, according to the New York Times. Iger said, “I explained when we make decisions like this, we consider cultural issues, economic issues, and political issues,” not electing to give further details on the “very frank” discussion. He added that the region had “not been at the top of our list in terms of markets that we would open up in.” ©Disney According to Wikipedia, “Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in the United Arab Emirates face discrimination and legal challenges. Homosexuality is illegal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and under the federal criminal provisions, consensual same-sex sexual activity is punishable by imprisonment; extra-marital sexual activity between persons of different sexes is also illegal. In both cases, prosecution will only be brought if a husband or male guardian of one of the participants makes a criminal complaint.” Pride Photo Wall at Disney World Disney went through a battle with the Florida government regarding the Parental Rights in Education bill, also known as the Don’t Say Gay bill, in the not-so-distant past. The bill did pass, despite Disney being the largest employer and taxpayer in the state and voicing its opposition. Disney later dropped a lawsuit against the state for what the company viewed as retaliation with the takeover of Disney’s special taxing district. The company has also made a very clear focus on ensuring a comfortable and accommodating work environment with its Inclusivity Key, so the choice of Abu Dhabi as its next park destination is controversial. Cinderella Castle The UAE was even one of the countries that banned Disney’s film Lightyear for having a quick same-sex kiss. The film is still not available on Disney+ in the region. In addition to the strict laws regarding homosexuality, Abu Dhabi (and the broader UAE) is also criticized for its laws surrounding women. According to the Human Rights Watch, while women can drive, own property, work, and get an education, some of these actions require approval from a male guardian, like a father or husband. The 2024 Human Freedom Index ranks the United Arab Emirates 119 out of 165 on human freedom regarding the rule of law, safety, movement, religion, relationships, and more. For comparison, the United States is ranked 17th. Still, the United Arab Emirates is largely considered to be progressive for the region. Buzz Lightyear at Pixar Pier Both Disney fans and critics have questioned whether this is the right move for the company and whether it aligns with Disney’s core values, but the United Arab Emirates isn’t the first country Disney has partnered with that has been criticized for human rights violations. In 2005, Hong Kong Disneyland opened, with Shanghai Disney Resort opening in mainland China in 2016. Disney is also expanding its cruise line fleet, and the Disney Adventure will sail out of Singapore starting in late 2025. Castle of Magical Dreams at Hong Kong Disneyland In both cases, Disney does not fully own these parks. The government of Hong Kong (through a subsidiary) owns 52% of Hong Kong Disney Resort, with the Walt Disney Company owning 48%. Disney owns 43% of Shanghai Disney Resort, while the state-controlled Shanghai Shendi Group owns the remaining 57%. While Hong Kong ranks higher on the Human Freedom Index at 50 out of 165 countries (as it has a separate government), mainland China is ranked 150. ©Disney | Zootopia at Shanghai Disney There is also the question of exactly how Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be built — and who will build it. Many companies (which are typically government-adjacent) in the United Arab Emirates operate under the kafala or sponsorship system, which can prevent migrant workers from changing jobs without an employer’s consent. The Human Rights Watch reports that these migrant workers face widespread abuses like wage theft, illegal recruitment fees, and passport confiscation, leaving them in situations that can amount to forced labor or slavery. While it’s still unclear exactly how this partnership will play out and who will actually be building the park, it is clear that this announcement probably has not been received as well as Disney likely hoped. ©Disney We’ll keep an eye out for the latest updates on Disneyland Abu Dhabi and beyond. 15. If you’re itching to spend your holidays under the snowfall on Main Street, munching on free cookies, and watching Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade in real life, you’re probably wondering when you can finally snag those 2025 Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party tickets. Christmas decor in the Magic Kingdom 2024 Based on past years, there is a pattern to watch for, mostly. So, let’s break down what we know, what we think might happen, and when to start keeping a VERY close eye on that Disney World calendar. Let’s Talk Ticket Trends So, here’s what Disney’s been up to the last few years when it comes to selling MVMCP tickets: 2021: August 20th (But this year was weird—still pandemic times and it wasn’t even the regular MVMCP, it was that short-lived “Disney Very Merriest After Hours” thing. So… let’s toss this one out.) 2022: June 30th (resort guests), July 7 (everyone else) 2023: June 29th (resort guests), July 6 (everyone else) 2024: July 2nd (resort guests), July 11 (everyone else) Seeing the pattern? Disney likes to announce ticket sales in late June and opens them to resort guests first, followed by the general public a week or so later in early to mid-July. It’s been super consistent for the last three years, so there’s no reason to think 2025 will stray too far from that schedule. Club Tinsel! We’re guessing resort guests will get access around late June or early July 2025, and general sales will open about a week later, probably right after the 4th of July holiday. So, here’s our best prediction right now: Resort Guest Pre-Sale: Tuesday, July 1st, 2025 General Public Sale: Thursday, July 10th, 2025 Of course, Disney hasn’t confirmed anything yet, and they love to keep us all guessing. But if they follow the same pattern (which they usually do when it comes to ticketed events), this timeline makes the most sense. Why This Matters If you’re planning a holiday Disney trip, locking in your MVMCP date early is key. These parties do sell out, especially those early November dates (because they’re cheaper) and the ones right before Christmas (because, well, Christmas). Remember, your best chance at short lines for rides and premium fireworks views is honestly going to be at the party. Once Upon a Christmastime Parade That said, even though Disney hasn’t dropped the 2025 dates or prices yet, we recommend doing a couple of things now: Start watching the Disney World website and social channels in mid-June for any announcements. If you’re staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, be ready to grab tickets as soon as they go live for resort guests. Consider planning your park days around the party, especially if you want to avoid using a regular park ticket that day (remember, you can get in as early as 4PM with just a party ticket). The parade is a must! One More Thing to Keep in Mind Even though Disney sticks to a pattern, they’ve been known to shake things up. So if they decide to bump things earlier or throw in a curveball, we’ll be the first to let you know. But for now, July 1st and July 10th are the dates we’re circling in pencil. 19. Disney World is expensive enough without WASTING your money — and we’re about to save you SO MUCH CASH! Main Street, U.S.A. There’s a lot you need to juggle while planning your Disney World vacation: Reservations, itineraries, packing… But ain’t nobody got time to throw buyers’ regret into the mix too! Today, we’re talking about ALL the purchases that you could potentially make during your Disney World trip… that you might find are money better unspent. Over-The-Counter Meds Picture this: Your group convinces you to go on Mission: SPACE. How? Dunno. They must be super convincing. You decide to ride the Orange Mission — You brave, brave soul you. And when you step off the ride? You’re in headache central. Or…uh…tummy ache central, to put it lightly! Mission Space Over-the-counter medications like Tylenol or Tums are offered in the gift shops around the Disney World Resort property — but they’re a lot pricier than buying them outside of the parks. As in DOUBLE the amount you’d normally spend at a regular drug store back home. Medicine at Port Orleans You can save money (and your poor head) by stocking up on these drugstore items ahead of your trip. Some items from the hotel gift shop However — if you’re REALLY in desperate need of some queasiness relief while you’re inside the parks, you can swing by one of the First Aid Centers at ANY of the parks — where a licensed nurse will be able to provide you with a single-serve dose of whatever over-the-counter meds you might need… for absolutely free! Magic Kingdom First Aid Center This can help hold you over until you’ve got time to pick up a bigger bottle for a more affordable price at one of the big box stores outside of the Disney bubble. Souvenirs You Can Get Cheaper…Elsewhere Have you been eyeing a particular Loungefly bag in the World of Disney gift shop? Or is there a certain pair of ears calling your name? Or do you just HAVE to HAVE those Mickey glove corn-on-the-cob holders for the next time you host a backyard barbecue? No matter HOW much you wanna purchase these cutesy souvenirs while you’re in Disney World…don’t buy them JUST YET. ©Amazon Many times over, we’ve been able to find the EXACT SAME Disney park souvenirs on the Disney Store website. You don’t even technically have to GO to the parks to pick ‘em up — you can just have them sent directly to your house! ©Disney But does THAT mean these souvenirs are REALLY gonna be that much more affordable? For the most part…absolutely! The Disney Store often has sales and discount opportunities featured on its website. Even BEYOND ShopDisney, we’ve also seen discounts for select Disney parks merch pop up on the Amazon website for way cheaper, too! Disney Springs So before you commit to paying full price for a Disney Parks souvenir, pull out your phone and do a quick once-over on these websites first to make sure you can’t find them cheaper… elsewhere. Food You’re Not Going To Eat Time to talk about the love-em-or-hate-em prix fixe menus, y’all. Prix fixe menus — in basic terms — are usually made of a multi-course meal (traditionally an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert) sold at one set price. While you can typically choose between a variety of options in each course when ordering off a prix-fixe menu, you’re not going to be able to choose how much (or how little) you pay. Adults have a set price, kids have a set price — and that’s that. Tutto Italia Prix-Fixe Menu options Prix fixe menus are becoming more commonplace around the parks — and can be found over at several popular Disney World restaurants like Space 220, California Grill, Be Our Guest Restaurant, and Cinderella’s Royal Table — just to name a few. Be Our Guest Prix fixe menus can be a good thing for some. For starters, these menus can take some of the stress out of picking a dish. No matter what you choose, you’re paying the exact same price anyway — so you might as well get what you want instead of worrying about something costing more or less than other menu items. Space 220 But, prix fixe menus can also be a MAJOR pain and a major money suck, too. If you eat a plant-based diet, you’re often ordering some of the cheapest items on these menus, simply because meat tends to be more expensive than veggies. If you go to a prix fixe meal, everyone is paying the EXACT same price — whether you order the filet mignon or the veggie stir fry — so those who are ordering plant-based items only are likely paying the same price for meals that would cost much-much less if they were ordering them a la carte instead. California Grill Prix Fixe meals also tend to have more “creative” menus than regular restaurants do. So even if you DO eat meat, but you’re just a pickier eater and tend to be satisfied with a simple chicken tender basket or mac and cheese cup, then it might be harder for you to find something that you want to eat on these menus to make it worth what you’re spending. More than likely, a quick service at ANY of the parks or resorts would more than suffice for ya at a WAY cheaper price point — since you’ve got several fast food options pretty much EVERYWHERE. Cinderella’s Royal Table Now, if you love eating BIG meals whenever you book a table service, then a prix fixe restaurant will hook you UP. But if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t even finish their entree — or you’re someone who likes to order an appetizer as your full meal — this is another case of “not getting your money’s worth” out of the full prix fixe dining experience. Be Our Guest Honestly, eating at resort lounges can provide you with quality lounge bites (and FULL drink menus) without forcing you to pay for more than you want to eat. And some restaurants — like Yak n Yeti at Animal Kingdom — even have shareable portions on the menus! So you can order just one or two things that’ll satisfy multiple people in your group without having to pay for a full entree for each person. Souvenir Plastic Let’s throw popcorn buckets and refillable mugs under the bus for a minute. Yes, collectible popcorn buckets and cups are cute. And yes, you really CAN get your money’s worth out of them… if you use them to their full potential. But they can also be a nuisance. How cute! You know those GINORMOUS popcorn buckets — like the one shaped like the Millennium Falcon? As cute as those may be, they also require you to carry them with you. All day long. And, to get the FULL use out of the whole “popcorn refill” benefit, you’ll have to lug these bad boys around during your ENTIRE trip. And that’s on TOP of the backpack or purse or diaper bag that you might already be carrying on your shoulder. Millennium Falcon Popcorn Bucket These popcorn buckets also make your savory snacking feel pretty limited. Sure, you could pick up something from one of the EPCOT festival booths for a more UNIQUE snack option…but why do THAT when you can get ANOTHER cheap refill of popcorn to get your money’s worth out of that bucket purchase? Without meaning to, you might get boxed into the same old popcorn snack at every single park, just because you feel guilty about spending MORE on a different snack elsewhere. Santa Sulley! AND if you purchase your popcorn bucket too late into your trip, then you’re really NOT getting your full use out of it. As far as refillable mugs go, they tend to have the same sort of downfall and then some. Resort Refillable Mug With a popcorn bucket, you can at LEAST get popcorn refills all around the parks. But with the refillable mugs, you can ONLY get your free refills at the quick service restaurants INSIDE the Disney-owned resorts. So to really get your money’s worth out of these, you’re going to have to make the effort to hit up those resort quick services as often as possible during your trip and fill ‘er up on fountain sodas, teas, and coffee. Refillable Resort Mug Display If you’re not even staying at a Disney resort… then the refillable mugs ain’t gonna be worth it. Just remember that these refillable plastic items could be more of a hassle — and less of a benefit — during your vacation, depending on your circumstances. GIANT Merch Oversized plushies, humongous Cinderella Castle playsets, big and (very) breakable snow globes that play a music box version of your favorite Disney tune. These souvenirs are great…until you realize you can’t get them sent back to your resort, forcing you to carry them around all day long. Angel While you can still typically pay for items to be shipped from the Disney World gift shops to your home, the days of having those purchases sent over to your hotel room — so you don’t have to carry them all the way over there yourself — are still a thing of the past. We’re hoping that this resort perk does return to the hotels someday, but — for now — if you want to purchase something big and bulky from one of the gift shops, consider waiting until the end of the day to buy them instead. Disney Princess Cinderella carriage Play set You might also want to rent a locker up toward the front of the park if you’re worried that your giant-sized souvenir might sell out if you wait too long to purchase it. That way, you don’t have to carry your merch around with you all day long, but you also don’t have to backtrack all the way to your hotel room — and sacrifice that precious vacation time that you COULD be spending inside the parks — just to drop off an item. The Infamous Package Deal Okay… so we’ve actually got QUITE the extensive list of Disney World purchases that we love to hate on… But instead of talking AT you about them, we’re just gonna hit you with a super-speedy run down of 4 purchases we REALLY wish we had never bought during past Disney trips. Ready? Let’s DO this. Bubble Wands Kids might love these, but parents might not. Not only are they WAY too overpriced in the parks (when you could get them at your local big box store for way cheaper), but if that bubble liquid leaks out of the wand and all over your suitcase, you’re not gonna be a happy camper. Ariel Bubble wand in Magic Kingdom If you do buy a bubble wand, remember to dump the bubble juice (or put it in a reusable container) before packing it with the rest of your stuff. Balloons Iconic? Sure. But paying $15+ for something that’s going to deflate eventually is kinda sad. Disney World Balloons Tying a Disney balloon to your stroller DOES make it easier to find in a sea of other strollers, so if you’re gonna purchase one, make it as useful as possible! Ponchos Ponchos at the drugstore? $1-$5. Ponchos at Disney? $12+. Meaning a family of four could end up paying around $50 JUST for ponchos alone. Tower of Terror So pick up ponchos ahead of your trip instead of dropping a whole bunch of extra cash on something you’ll more than likely throw out before heading home. Blind Boxes Whether it be for little collectible plushies or pins, or something else entirely, blind boxes can end up being the bane of your trip. Sure, it’s possible that you’ll get the one item you really wanted, but — more often than not — you’ll be underwhelmed by what’s inside. (And your kids might even beg you for ANOTHER blind box, just so they can try their luck again!) Endor Blind Box If your children (or even if you) wanna try for a blind box, set a limit to how many you purchase (ie: 2 per person) ahead of time so you don’t blow ALL your souvenir funds on random mystery items. Yellow Munchling Box Hopefully ,this helped ya figure out how to stretch your dollar even more during your Disney World vacation! 20. It. Is. TIME. Tiny Train Town I’m taking you guys back to Tiny Train Town again to see what kind of shenanigans the villagers are up to! They welcomed me back with open arms (and a fair bit of crime) last week, so we’ll see if they’re behaving now…or continuing their shenanigans. Starting out in the town square, I’ve noticed that there’s a new natural disaster on the scene — GIANT COINS FALLING FROM THE SKY! These seemingly massive pennies have been landing on rooftops and knocking citizens unconscious left and right. We’ve even seen some destroyed chimneys because of them! Here’s to hoping they only land in the river in the future. Giant coins…NOOOO! After last week’s bovine murder, farmers around the village are on high alert for any dastardly livestock crimes. One farmer even hired a daytime babysitter for his two dogs and pig — gotta keep ’em safe. Is this what our town has come to now?! I want to warn any would-be criminals that as the mayor, I’m doubling the fines and charges for murdering anyone’s pets. Hmmm… And in other crime news, we’ve seen a surge of vandalism around the town as well. One fine couple woke up early this morning to find that their work equipment had been broken overnight. (We’ve literally got broom handles snapped in half and barrels smashed!) Is this the doing of a rowdy group of teens, or are these more side effects from the giant coins?! I’m on to you Looks like I’ve got some things to investigate this week! I’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more tiny town news, so stay tuned to DFB. The anarchy within is mostly created by natural occurrences, like giant squirrels, wind, rain, and relatively godzilla-sized lizards who frequent the town; but we find it fun and entertaining to make up fictional stories about what COULD be happening. We are grateful to the folks who create and maintain this Tiny Train Town for Disney World, as it’s one of our favorite parts of EPCOT and always has been. Click Here to See Last Week’s Adventures! 21. Are you ready for BLAST OFF on Disney World’s busiest ride? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is dominating Disney World. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)-based E-Ticket roller coaster attraction first opened at EPCOT in 2022 and was immediately one of the most popular attractions in Disney World. However, the ride’s renown went into another stratosphere in early 2025 when the line shifted from a virtual queue to a standby line, meaning that it was available to any guest willing to wait. And wait, they did, as the ride has often had the highest average wait of any attraction at the resort’s four theme parks, with times often over an hour. Now that Cosmic Rewind is a transitional standby queue, there are likely many Disney guests who will be experiencing the coaster for the first time this summer. If you’re among them, there are certain things you NEED to know. First off, let’s start with the pre-show. While there are likely some who simply want to ride the coaster and don’t care about the attraction’s backstory, for those who don’t, the queue is integral. From its set-up as the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion to the Galaxarium (“a planetarium-like exhibition showcasing the similarities and differences between Xandar and Earth’s galaxies”) to the (SPOILER-FREE) encounter with the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves (in footage featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista and directed by James Gunn) setting up the ride’s main conflict, the queue is integral to the ride’s plot, and if you care about such things you want to make sure you pay CLOSE attention to the story laid out beforehand. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Now, on to the ride itself. While Cosmic Rewind is a thrilling attraction that includes a 60 MPH backwards launch and revolutionary rotating vehicles, it’s also unique for a roller coaster in how smooth it is. So, if you’re not a fan of typically jerky coasters but speed and twists don’t bother you, Cosmic Rewind might be an ideal ride experience. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Speaking of the ride experience, discussing Cosmic Rewind is impossible without talking about the music. As with the rest of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, the soundtrack is immensely important to the attraction. Each ride is accompanied by one of the following songs: “I Ran (So Far Away)” by A Flock of Seagulls “Conga” by Miami Sound Machine “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears “One Way or Another” by Blondie “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire These songs don’t only provide a cursory ride difference, however, as the cars are synched to the music, meaning that each song provides a slightly different experience. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind pre-show Some further things to keep in mind: Put your hat and glasses away. Trust us, no matter how tightly you think they’re on, they will fly off. The on-ride photo is taken during the backwards launch, just as your vehicle is spinning back into the forward position. On-ride Photo for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind If you’re experiencing Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind for the first time, be sure to keep these things in mind! 22. With Mother’s Day just around the corner we are celebrating the joy and beauty of nature around Walt Disney World Resort. We have been fortunate to welcome a host of sweet and adorable new baby animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Among these newcomers is Tucker, a bright eyed endangered Masai giraffe calf, who made his savanna debut last month. Alongside him are the three new Asian small-clawed otter pups, who have captured the hearts of guests who have watched them explore and splash around the Otter Grotto. Celebrate Mother’s Day with Baby Animals at Animal Kingdom One of our most adored mothers is Sohni, the critically endangered Sumatran tiger. As she embarks on her adventure as a second-time mom, her cub Bakso has been delighting guests with his playful antics. Sohni’s nurturing spirit shines as she teaches Bakso to be an independent tiger, and their playful moments together on Maharajah Jungle Trek have become a favorite sight for our guests. Early mornings are a special time to witness Sohni and Bakso’s bond, as they frolic and play in their lush habitat. Sohni can often be seen tenderly grooming Bakso, ensuring his fur stays clean, while Bakso playfully pounces at his mother in a game of chase. Out on the savanna of Kilimanjaro Safaris, Mara, a proud mother Masai giraffe, continues to care for her third calf, the charming Tucker. This tall giraffe calf is a quick learner, sticking close to his mom as she gently teaches him to forage, socialize and explore his surroundings. Around the savanna, Mara has been guiding Tucker with gentle nudges, teaching him the subtle giraffe language and how to get around. Critically Endangered Baby Addax at Animal Kingdom Lodge The sweetness of Mother’s Day extends even further with a heartwarming announcement from Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Juniper, a critically endangered addax, welcomed an adorable calf named Ginny last month. Juniper’s journey into motherhood is a joyous occasion, as she nurses and nurtures Ginny backstage before they join the rest of the herd. Ginny and Juniper have been sharing tender moments as they bond alongside each other. Another proud mother, Violet, also welcomed her calf, Henry, who is now exploring the Uzima Savanna along with other members of the addax family. These births are monumental, especially as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the addax as critically endangered. Disney’s commitment to conserving endangered species, like addax, Sumatran tigers and the Masai giraffe are made possible in collaboration with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Species Survival Plan (SSP), underscoring the importance of every new life. As we honor these remarkable animal mothers, we extend our gratitude to mothers everywhere for their boundless love and dedication. For updates on many of these animals, and to see all the amazing work Disney’s talented team of cast members are doing for the more than 5,000 animals across Disney World, follow Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment on Facebook and Dr. Mark on Instagram. 25. Grab your wand and your favorite Parisian snack and run to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic to — wait, it’s CLOSED? Portal Entrance into Ministry of Magic If you’re heading to a preview of Universal’s Epic Universe, heads up that the attraction you’ve been dying to ride might not be open. One of Epic Universe’s most anticipated attractions, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, will be closed from May 10th to 16th. Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry Epic Universe is currently in technical rehearsal, and anyone can purchase preview tickets (even those who aren’t Annual Passholders) to check out the park before its grand opening. During the technical rehearsal, Universal is still working on the park and finishing it while allowing Team Members more training at their locations. Traveling by Floo Powder While it’s disappointing that the attraction will be closed for a bit, we’re glad we got a heads-up, and you can still walk through the beginning of the incredible queue! You can enter the Ministry via floo powder and feel like you’re walking into a Harry Potter movie. The Queue Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is currently operating with a virtual queue system to help manage guest flow. Right now, guests inside the parks can try to secure a chance to ride by going into the Universal app for the drops at 11 PM, 3 PM, and 6 PM. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic This started during Team Member Previews but has continued onto Annual Passholder Previews and the previews available to all guests. Universal hasn’t said whether the virtual queue will stay when the park opens May 22nd, but if this ride is at the top of your list, make sure you’re checking the app for current information. Higgledy! Over at How to Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, the Viking Training Camp will also be closed from May 13th to May 16th. This is the massive playground themed to Berk’s vikings and dragons where little ones can play. Isle of Berk Remember: everything is subject to change! Although Battle at the Ministry is only supposed to be closed until May 16th, they might decide to keep it closed a little longer or even open it early. Other rides might be down for maintenance as well. Keep checking the app while you’re at the technical rehearsal to make sure you have up-to-date information. We’ll monitor to see if any other changes are being made, but in the meantime, make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for more Epic Universe news. REVIEW: MOVE OVER, BUTTERBEER! 26. Yesterday
  27. Earlier today, The Walt Disney Company and Miral announced an agreement to create a landmark Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The announcement of the region’s first-ever Disney theme park resort destination was celebrated in spectacular fashion as a stunning drone show and fireworks spectacle lit up the night sky at Yas Island. The show, which took place at Yas Links, was set against the stunning backdrop of Yas Island’s waterfront and included global celebrities Tyrese Gibson, Naomi Campbell, Ed Westwick, and more. Guests were also treated to a live performance featuring world-renowned pianist Lang Lang alongside acclaimed Emirati singer, Rashed Alnuaimi, Kerry Ellis, and Sonya Balsara. This new destination project will be Disney’s seventh theme park resort worldwide and will connect travelers from the Middle East to Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and beyond. The upcoming resort promises to seamlessly blend Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture. The new resort will be fully developed and built by Miral. Disney and its legendary Imagineers will lead creative design and operational oversight to provide a world-class experience. Details of the new resort will be revealed as the project progresses. The post Abu Dhabi Celebrates New Disney Theme Park Resort at Yas Island appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 28. We’ve been waiting weeks to see this happen, and it finally did! SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Yoshi’s Snack Stand has finally opened in Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe as the park is currently in its rehearsal and preview period. We’re really looking forward to trying it out and seeing if a stop at this quick service location is worth your time. So without further ado, let’s check it out! Atmosphere This is an outdoor location that’s more like a snack stand than a quick-service restaurant. It’s tucked away into a corner of Super Nintendo World, right before the walkway into Donkey Kong Country. Yoshi’s Snack Stand It’s been closed ever since previews began last month, but we finally saw it open for the first time recently. The line for this spot is all under cover, which is nice, but there’s no seating nearby, so prepare to be more “on the go” with your snacks. The line However, when we arrived, it was clear this spot was very much in a dress rehearsal stage, as Team Members were being trained. This is expected during previews, so if you’re going soon before the park officially opens on May 22nd, remember to be kind and patient! It’s finally open! Enough chatter — let’s try some of these treats! Food Currently, there are only three items on the menu — a Red Shell Calzone, a Mango Smoothie, and an Apple-Melon Smoothie. The Mango Smoothie will cost you $7.49 and comes in a cute Yoshi disposable cup (but you could rinse it out and keep it, if you wanted!). Mango Smoothie This is a really solid smoothie! It’s elevated by the whipped cream on top that doesn’t taste like store-bought whipped cream. There are additional mango pieces on top that really impressed us. This isn’t just a basic slush smoothie that comes out of a margarita machine — no, this was a quality smoothie! We think this is a decent price for it, too, especially since it’ll be a great, refreshing mid-day snack that’s not too heavy. We really enjoyed it! Then it was time for the Red Shell Calzone for $12.99, which comes in a little plastic package to make it easier to hold. Inside, you’ll find pepperoni, sausage, cheese, and marinara sauce, and here’s the thing — this is a nightmare for adults, but for kids and teenagers whose taste buds are still happy with puffy pizza and hot pockets (which is what we’d most closely relate the filling of this to), it’ll be a hit. Red Shell Calzone It’s bread-y enough that it’s more like a sandwich, which makes it much easier to carry around and eat without a fork and knife, so we understand the design choice here. We also think this is a little pricey for something that’s barely bigger than our palm. However, if you or your kids are most accustomed to eating pizza rolls and hot pockets and don’t want to branch out much, this will be a solid, safe option in the park.
