  2. So it’s no secret that some of our favorite dining in Disney World is actually not in the parks and is, in fact, at Disney World hotels. Grand Floridian Resort Okay, that shouldn’t come as a big surprise because people have been going on about restaurants like Boma at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and ‘Ohana at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for years. One Disney World hotel restaurant even has a Michelin Star (yep, that would be Victoria & Albert’s). Well, we’re headed to that very same hotel, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, to try out its quick service location, Gasparilla Island Grill. Atmosphere Gasparilla Island Grill is the quick service location at the Grand Floridian. The entrance is located on the first floor from the hotel’s outdoor paths. Gasparilla Island Grill entrance You’ll order your food at a counter and then pick up any utensils and condiments from other stations. You’ll also find a variety of bakery items in a case. It’s a counter service location Note that this is also where you can get a Refillable Resort Mug for unlimited refills (this is also where you’ll get your refills. There is also some booth seating, as well as tables and chairs, inside, so you can sit and enjoy your food and drinks in the a/c. Some outdoor seating is also available. Everything you need for a quick meal But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu The menu here is pretty much standard counter service fare. You’ve got flatbreads, some specialty entrees, and a burger. ©Disney You can also pick up a variety of sandwiches and salads. ©Disney Currently, only one plant-based option is available, but there is a good selection of sides and Kids’ Meals. ©Disney You can also pick up your choice of dessert… ©Disney …and bakery and snack items. ©Disney Beverages include coffee, soft drinks, cocktails, beer, and wine. Eats We wanted to try a few new menu items, so we grabbed the Chicken Bowl, which includes Black Bean and Corn Salad, Lemon Rice, and Cilantro-Lime Sauce for $14.49. We noticed that the chicken on top of the bowl was a little dry, but underneath were some nice, moist pieces. The rice was good and you get plenty, although we kinda wanted more to mix it up with our veggies. Chicken Bowl You get a lot of veggies, too. But we do have a warning. Cilantro, which is something people either love or hate, is also part of this dish, so you might want to reconsider if you’re on the “it tastes like soap” side of the debate. The veggies were tasty, and overall, everything with this bowl works well together. Pretty tasty We also tried the Barbacoa Bowl, which includes Black Bean and Corn Salad, Lemon Rice, and Cilantro-Lime Sauce for $16.49. Yep, both of these bowls are the same, save for the choice of meat. The meat in this bowl was very dry and a little too salty for our tastes, so if we had to choose, we’d go for the chicken bowl. Barbacoa Bowl Granted, the rest of the bowl is good and the same as the Chicken Bowl. You’ve got nice veggies and rice. But this one is a heavier meal. The meat is dry. We also decided to grab the Roast Beef Sandwich for $13.99. It’s made with Roast Beef, Horseradish Aïoli, Caramelized Onion Jam, Crispy Onions, Swiss Cheese, and Arugula on House-made Ciabatta. So our reporter was nervous trying this because he’s not a fan of onions or horseradish, but was pleasantly surprised with the flavors of this sandwich. You can’t really taste the horseradish, so maybe that’s why. There also wasn’t a strong overall onion flavor. Roast Beef Sandwich You also get a lot of meat on this sandwich, so you’re getting your money’s worth. There’s also a lot of cheese, and, well…you know how much we love cheese. Lots of meat You get a choice of fries or chips with the sandwich, and we went with the fries. Honestly, Disney World fries always slap for us, so there’s that. Fries So what did we think overall? Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a quick meal. If you’re looking for a quick meal and don’t want to spend time waiting in a table service restaurant, you can get it here. You’re staying at the Grand Floridian. If you’re staying at the hotel, it makes sense you’d want to grab a quick bite to eat here when you need some sustenance. You’re on a budget. You might be shocked by the prices of some of the other dining spots at the Grand Floridian, so this is probably the cheapest place to eat at this hotel. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You aren’t staying at the Grand Floridian. If you’re not staying at this hotel, it wouldn’t make sense to travel all the way here for a quick service meal. You want a table service dining experience. The Grand Floridian has some top-notch table service restaurants, including Victoria & Albert’s with its Michelin star, so if you want a nice date night meal or want to celebrate a special occasion, this is probably not where you’d want to do that. You want more variety. We’ll be honest. There isn’t a lot to choose from here, and if you want something plant-based, you’re really out of luck. Full spread Overall We’ll say Gasparilla Island Grill is probably good in a pinch if you’re looking for a fast meal and you happen to be at the Grand Floridian. Now, it’s obvious that folks don’t usually come to the Grand Floridian for a quick service meal when you’ve got some great table service locations to choose from, but if you’re staying here or find yourself hungry and here, you’ll probably be satisfied with your meal. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more! 5. Some Disney World Lightning Lanes simply aren’t worth your time OR your money. Lightning Lane at Peter Pan’s Flight When you’re paying money for Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you’ll want to make sure you get the most value by booking Lightning Lanes that will ACTUALLY save you time spent waiting in line. Typically, it’s easy to figure out which Lightning Lanes will be useful — they’re the ones for the rides with the highest wait times. But which Lightning Lanes do the experts refuse to book? We’ve got the list. Mickey’s PhilharMagic Starting off this list, we’ve got Mickey’s PhilharMagic, which is an adorable show starring Donald Duck as he “borrows” Mickey’s sorcerer hat and gets sent on musical adventures throughout several Disney films. It’s in 3D and it’s definitely an attraction we’d recommend if you have time. However, you probably don’t need to use your Lightning Lane Multi Pass for this show. Mickey’s PhilharMagic Why not? Well, the wait time is rarely longer than the length of one show, which means that pretty much everyone will be waiting in the same holding area, and your Lightning Lane won’t give you any kind of special access. Now, if the wait time is 30 or 45 minutes, you’ll be waiting through multiple shows — in that case, you might want to use Multi Pass (but that’s not super common!). Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor The same thing goes for Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor over in Tomorrowland. This 10-minute show features Mike Wazowski and Roz as the hosts, while other monsters come in and try to make everyone laugh. But like PhilharMagic, its wait time is only about as long as it takes for the show before yours to finish. Lightning Lane for Laugh Floor There are times when the wait can get long, like on particularly crowded days. If you see the line out the door, you may want to book a Lightning Lane. Otherwise, you’re safe to just wait 10 minutes for this one. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Now it’s time for our first ride of the list! Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a Dumbo-style attraction that lets you fly above Adventureland on carpets like Aladdin and Jasmine. Of the spinner-style rides, this one tends to have the lowest wait, so using the Lightning Lane entrance doesn’t get you as much value over here. Lightning Lane However, you might want to consider using a Lightning Lane for this ride if it’s a must-do for your littles, the wait is unusually long, or it’s a particularly hot day. The queue is entirely outdoors, and it gets TOASTY. The Barnstormer Our last choice is The Barnstormer in Storybook Circus! Like the other attractions, there are rare occasions when a Lightning Lane might be beneficial for this ride, but for the most part, the wait time stays low. The Barnstormer The coaster is only 30 seconds long, so the line tends to move pretty quickly. If it’s a must-do for your kids or the wait is climbing up higher, you can book a Lightning Lane for this one later in the day (it’s definitely not one of the first ones you’ll want to book). And a BONUS Tip You may be surprised that Mad Tea Party isn’t on this list — that’s because we recommend booking it as your “burner” Lightning Lane. What’s a “burner Lightning Lane?” Well, when you book your Lightning Lanes initially in Magic Kingdom, you’ll be able to choose ONE Tier 1 attraction and TWO Tier 2 attractions. (Or three from Tier 2 if you’re not interested in the popular rides.) Mad Tea Party Once you scan into your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection for the day, the tiers will no longer be relevant, and you’ll be able to book whatever is available in the park. That’s why we recommend choosing Mad Tea Party! If you can get this Lightning Lane for the first hour of your park day, you’ll be able to scan in and then immediately start searching for Lightning Lanes for those popular rides that you haven’t snagged already. It’s a great strategy! Mad Tea Party Lightning Lane In the end, if you’re going to spend the extra $$ to purchase Lightning Lanes in Disney World, you want to have a good strategy! 8. Well, it’s really happening, and we’re having a hard time saying goodbye. Muppet*Vision 3D Muppets Courtyard has been slowly closing to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ve already seen the closure of Mama Melrose’s, but on June 7th, both PizzeRizzo (okay, maybe we won’t miss the rat pizza joint) and Muppet*Vision 3D will close forever. Now, we’re going to miss Muppet*Vision 3D A LOT, even if the Muppets are eventually taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We’re not the only ones…a Broadway star recently recorded his own tribute to Muppet*Vision 3D…and yes, it will make you laugh AND cry. Broadway star Andrew Barth Feldman is an actor and singer who played the title role in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway. Not only did he appear as a guest star on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but he also has credits in several movies, including A Tourist’s Guide to Love and No Hard Feelings. He also happens to be a talented singer, songwriter, and musician, and he penned a special song to pay tribute to Muppet*Vision 3D. Oh, and he also filmed an ENTIRE MUSIC VIDEO that kinda sums up how we ALL feel about the loss of this attraction. Yep, that sums it up beautifully, right? We are excited about the new Monsters, INC. land and the ride based on the doors scene in the movie (like, we’ve wanted that ride FOREVER), but we are sad to see Muppet*Vision 3D go away. At least we’ll be reunited with Kermit and the gang once Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is re-themed. ©Disney We’ll be in Muppets Courtyard on June 7th to say goodbye, so be sure to follow us for that coverage. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 6 Muppets Secrets To Find in Disney World BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! Click here to Subscribe! 11. There are tons of places to eat in Disney Springs, and sometimes it can feel overwhelming, but if you’re looking for a classic burger, there’s one restaurant we recommend almost every time. D-Luxe Burger D-Luxe Burger is THE place to go when you’re looking for either a classic burger or something a little more adventurous. While there are great options you can get on the menu year-round, the restaurant also features specialty burgers every now and then, and that’s often where the REAL magic lies. One of the classic burgers you can get every day here is the Classic Cheeseburger for $12.49. This is made with two-pressed signature-blend patties topped with cheddar, 1921 sauce, lettuce, tomato, and a pickle. The Classic Cheeseburger This is a great choice for the pickier eaters, because it truly is just a classic burger, done the right way! The toppings are fresh, and while in the past the patties have sometimes been a little dry, adding ketchup, mustard, or other sauces fixes it easily. The burger However, it’s the specialty burgers you really want to keep an eye out for, because options like the Pastrami Reuben Burger we recently tried totally blow our minds. This burger cost us $14.99 and was two pressed signature-blend patties topped with Swiss cheese, beef pastrami, braised cabbage, and thousand island sauce on a rye bun. Pastrami Reuben Burger The pastrami had a bacon-like quality to it — crispy, smoky, and charred on the edges in the best way — and the braised cabbage was absolutely sensational! It added a fantastic tanginess that cut through the meatiness of the burger. Our only complaint was that we wished there had been more cheese, and unfortunately, the bread was much harder to bite through than we would prefer. Inside the burger We do feel the meat could have been a little more seasoned, but the toppings here really saved it! We’re hoping to see it return as a specialty burger soon. You never know what kind of specialty burgers might pop up on the menu here — keep your eyes peeled! Yum! Overall, these are nice, quality burgers that tend to impress us. The menu is solid and has an option for everyone — the pickier eaters as well as those looking for something more exciting, and that’s sometimes hard to find in Disney Springs! More Recent Reviews! 12. Being located in Florida, Disney World is filled with sunny, hot weather almost all year round. Unfortunately, that means it’s also home to hurricane season, and if you’re not prepared, it can ruin your Disney World trip. Rainy day in Magic Kingdom Don’t worry — that’s why we’re here! We’ve been coming to Disney World during storm season for a long time, so we pulled our best tips and tricks together so you can still have a great trip. 1. Stay flexible with travel dates Magic Kingdom entrance the day after Hurricane Milton To avoid the storm, you might have to push your vacation by a day or two. While this is certainly annoying, making sure you can take those days off of work, school doesn’t start the day after, and there are no major life events soon can help you move your trip with minimal issues. Being flexible can help you still have your vacation around the same time frame and help prevent it from being completely cancelled. 2. Know the cancelation policies Visitors leaving Magic Kingdom and EPCOT at the Transportation and Ticket Center The best way to avoid the unknown is to know the details! Knowing things like whether your park passes are refundable or transferable, what’s happening with your hotel, and even if your flight can be canceled are all valuable things to know, so when that storm is getting closer and closer, you can figure out what you need to do. 3. If you can cancel, you might want to Crowds in Magic Kingdom ahead of the hurricane When that storm is coming, it might be the right decision to cancel your trip, especially if you can get a full refund. We know it’s not ideal, and a few tears might be shed, but when it comes to safety and enjoyment, it might not be worth it. If you’re staying at a Disney Resort and the parks get shut down due to the storm, Cast Members will make sure you are fed and taken care of, but it’s not an ideal experience for a Disney trip. We would much rather push our trip back by a month or two and be able to experience the full Disney magic, riding every ride we want. The parks closed due to Hurricane Milton Just because there’s a storm coming, doesn’t mean Disney is going to shut down the parks, but certain attractions and experiences may be canceled or modified for the weather, and if you want to have a perfect trip, it might not be the right time. Prepare for lots of rain in the coming days Travel insurance can be a great way to make sure you get a full refund, and Disney even has their own! This might be an excellent choice for your trip, so you can get all the refunds you need and use that money for an even better trip in the future. If we’re booking a trip from June to November, we tend to add some sort of protection so we’re prepared if a storm hits. 4. Make sure you pack accordingly Slinky Dog Dash If you’re going to brave the parks, make sure you’re ready for it! Great quality raincoats and ponchos can make navigating the parks a little easier. You might want umbrellas, extra socks and shoes, and changes of clothes in your park bag as well, so you can handle everything coming your way. We also love bringing snacks and bottled water for our resort, so if we’re stuck in our rooms for a bit, we have everything we need. 5. Know what attractions will be open and closed during the rain Flooding in Disney World Disney will shut down many outdoor rides if it’s raining heavily or there is lightning and thunder in the area. If you visit Disney World and don’t care what you ride and just want to experience the parks, coming during a storm might be a great option. On the other hand, if you know that all you want to do is ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and watch Happily Ever After, coming during storm season might not be a good idea. Know your priorities and decide what is worth it for your family. Make sure you have great rain gear! All in all, if your Disney trip is planned during hurricane season, be prepared to be flexible and know that you may have to make decisions that are best for your family. Florida is also known for weather that can change quickly — yes, that storm might come in sooner than expected, but it could also move around Orlando and not hit it at all! Make sure you’re staying up to date with all the news surrounding your trip and keep following Disney Food Blog for more. 17. One of the most fun things to do in Disney World is to meet characters. Now, of course, you have GOT to meet Mickey when you’re visiting the parks, as well as Minnie and the rest of the Fab Five. Spaceship Earth There are many ways to meet characters in Disney World. You’ve got character dining experiences, you’ve got scheduled meet-and-greets in each park, and you’ve even got some characters who wander around. However, a NEW meet-and-greet has just arrived in EPCOT, and yes, it’s Phineas and Ferb, and, honestly, we are pretty sure we just made a new core memory. Yes, we just met Phineas and Ferb in EPCOT and we’re still excited about it. You’ll find this new meet-and-greet just to the right of Spaceship Earth near the EPCOT entrance — this is the space where you can usually meet Pluto. But right now, you’ll see Phineas and Ferb! Phineas and Ferb So WHEN can you meet this pair? Well, you’ll want to keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app because it will list the times for both characters. It looks like they’re going to be out quite a bit from park open to around 3:35 PM on most days. Now, these are characters we’ve usually only seen at some After-Hours events, so seeing them in EPCOT during regular park hours is pretty AWESOME. ©Disney If you can’t get enough of Phineas and Ferb, you might also be interested to know that a brand new season of their show is coming to the Disney Channel and Disney+ on June 5th, so mark those calendars! These two are so fun! We do have a word of warning, though: according to the Disney World website, this meet and greet is temporary and the characters will only be available through June 28th. So keep that in mind if you’re headed to EPCOT to say hello. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 18. Disney Adults are gonna Disney Adult—and at Animal Kingdom, it’s starting to go a little too far. Tree of Life What used to be low-key smart tips are now full-blown strategies that some folks are turning into lifestyle choices. We’re not saying you shouldn’t use these hacks—we’re just saying they’re getting a little intense. If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom soon, here are four “hacks” that have gone from underrated to totally overboard. Using Single Rider for Expedition Everest… Like It’s a Personality Trait Yes, Expedition Everest has a single rider line. Yes, it can save you a decent chunk of time. But some Disney Adults have practically made it their home base. We’ve seen people hop on Everest many times in a row using single rider, skipping the standby line entirely, and acting like they’ve cracked some ancient Disney code. The single rider line is usually pretty short at Expedition Everest! Let’s be clear: the single rider line is awesome if you don’t mind skipping the queue theming and getting split from your group. But it’s not always a guaranteed time-saver, especially during slower parts of the day. And using it nonstop like it’s your personal VIP entrance? Well, that’s where we raise an eyebrow. Use it when it makes sense, but maybe don’t make it your whole Disney identity. Mobile Ordering Before the Lunch Rush… Like You’re Plotting a Heist Mobile ordering is one of the best things to come out of recent Disney updates. You can lock in a lunch spot before the big crowds hit, and places like Satu’li Canteen and Flame Tree Barbecue are perfect for this. But some folks are setting alarms, booking 10:50 AM time slots like it’s a land grab, and planning their entire park strategy around it. Mobile Order Pick-up on the Left Listen, we love a hot plate of noodles at Satu’li as much as the next person. But there’s a line between being prepared and being a little too obsessed. If you’re planning your day down to the exact minute of when Flame Tree opens its first pickup window, maybe take a breath. Mobile order early—yes. But maybe don’t turn it into a Mission: Impossible-level operation. Camping Out at Nomad Lounge Like It’s Your Living Room Nomad Lounge is a vibe. The cocktails? Solid. The small plates? Completely underrated. The cushy seating and shady deck overlooking the water? Absolute perfection. But this place has quietly become the go-to hangout spot for Disney Adults, and it’s getting a little out of control. Lounge-style seating Some guests are lining up before it opens, then posting up for HOURS. We’re talking a drink, then lunch, then maybe another drink, then a snack… all while lounging like it’s their personal co-working space. If you’re grabbing a drink and relaxing for a bit, great! But let’s not pretend this is a secret members-only club. Grilled Chicken Satay It’s a lounge. Other people want to sit, too. Order, enjoy, and maybe move along when you’re done. Sneaking In Through Rainforest Cafe Like You Just Found a Secret Tunnel Okay, this one feels like true chaos energy. There’s a lesser-known entrance to Animal Kingdom through the Rainforest Cafe gift shop—and Disney Adults are treating it like a secret passage to Narnia. Animal Kingdom entrance from Rainforest Cafe Yes, it’s real. Yes, it’s occasionally faster than the main entrance. But the way some guests talk about it, you’d think they’re the only ones who know about it. It’s a fun little shortcut, but it’s not going to save you 30 minutes or change your life. Use it if it makes sense, but don’t maybe don’t act like you hacked the matrix. Animal Kingdom At the end of the day, we love a good Disney tip—we’re all about planning smart and making the most of your park time. But some of these Animal Kingdom hacks? They’ve officially hit the mainstream. What started as clever little tricks are now becoming standard operating procedure for Disney Adults everywhere. And that’s the thing—they work. We use them too! But the more people catch on, the more chaotic (and competitive) it’s all starting to feel. Nomad Lounge is packed before noon, single rider feels like the only rider, and that Rainforest Cafe entrance? No longer a secret. So if you’re heading to Animal Kingdom soon, be prepared—because these hacks aren’t flying under the radar anymore. They’re taking over. 19. There are some very popular snacks that I SKIP in Magic Kingdom. Turkey Leg With literally dozens of options to choose from, I can’t feasibly eat everything in one day, and I certainly wouldn’t want to (can you imagine trying to go on RIDES after all that snacking?!). So, how do you choose what to eat? Do you pick the most popular treats? Well, these are some popular snacks that I typically skip. The Basics Let’s start out with the basics! These are the snacks you can get in all the parks, like Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bars, Mickey ice cream sandwiches, Mickey pretzels, and popcorn. Mickey Pretzel You’ll see carts that carry these treats (and a few others) all over the parks. They’re the quintessential “first timer” snacks, but you can get them pretty much anywhere — even at your hotel sometimes. So if I’ve only got one day in Magic Kingdom, I’m probably going to eat something more unique and exciting. Prepackaged Snacks Speaking of things that are neither unique nor exciting, we’ve got to talk about the prepackaged snacks that you find in many gift shops around Disney World. You can snag these in a few places in Magic Kingdom, and if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, you can even use your snack credits for some of them. Snack Wall Typically, you’ll find things like candies, crackers, cookies, and chocolates. While I’m at it, I’m also going to lump in the prepackaged Rice Krispies treats and prepackaged candy apples — those are much better fresh from a bakery case. Just save your money and get something fresh and delicious instead of a knockoff version of a popular gas station candy. Turkey Legs You know what sounds good on a hot day in Magic Kingdom? “A giant slab of salty, greasy meat” — said no one, ever. Turkey legs have a time and a place (Ren faire, anyone?), but I’m hardly ever in the mood for one during a theme park day. The turkey leg They’re a ridiculously large portion size, and if I’m craving a little extra protein, there are often better and more palatable options — like Corn Dog Nuggets! Ultimately, these fall pretty far down my list of desired snacks. Tiana’s Beignets At a couple of spots in Magic Kingdom, you’ll find Tiana’s Famous Beignets on the menu. These are inspired by Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and feature three rectangle-shaped beignets with powdered sugar and honey. They’re good…but they’re not my snack of choice. Tiana’s Famous Beignets Why is that? Well, I tend to be a Mickey beignet purist! I love the classic Mickey beignets that you get at Port Orleans — French Quarter or the Mickey beignets you can find in Disneyland Park. The Tiana version doesn’t quite stack up as well as those do. Snacks I DO Love! You may be asking — “Lydia, what DO you like?!” Well, there are plenty of things! For starters, I really enjoy the mix-your-own-popcorn station at the Main Street Confectionery. It’s a lot of fun to create a custom blend or just buy the seasonal mix. However, if you’re going to buy this treat, be warned that it’s BIG and you may want to grab it at the end of the night to avoid carrying it all over the park. S’mores Popcorn Other favorites of mine include Casey’s Corner Corn Dog Nuggets (with plastic cheese, of course), pretty much any flavor of Dole Whip, ice cream from Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, and the delicious cheeseburger spring rolls at the cart near Adventureland. Spring Roll Cart There are SO many snacks in Disney World — you’re going to have to pick and choose a little bit during your vacation. Unfortunately, even we here at DFB can’t eat EVERYTHING in one day. Check out the video below to see some budget-friendly Magic Kingdom treats! 22. Muppets fans, the Muppets Courtyard is about to close for good, and we don’t think we are prepared quite yet. Of course, we will be there on its final day! However, the good news is that it is closing to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. themed land that is coming to Hollywood Studios. Disney’s Hollywood Studios With that being said, you only have a few DAYS left to get your last showing of Muppet*Vision 3D in or grab one more slice of puffy pizza from PizzeRizzo. Muppet*Vision 3D AND PizzeRizzo will be closed beginning June 8th, and Muppets Courtyard will be walled off so construction can begin on the new land. That means that June 7th is your LAST day for both Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo. Muppet*Vision 3D Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano has already been closed for a bit (since May 11th). Soak in the Muppets Courtyard while you still can! But don’t worry, the Muppets won’t be missing from Disney’s Hollywood Studios forever. The Muppets will eventually be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We don’t know the dates yet, but it is something that will be happening at some point. Let’s take a look at what other attractions and locations will be closed this week, May 31st through June 7th, at Disney World! Magic Kingdom Playground at Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor children’s playground inside the Dumbo the Flying Elephant queue closed for refurbishment on February 24th, 2025. While the playground is closed, the ride is still open and available for kids of all ages to soar through the sky! Dumbo the Flying Elephant The indoor playground is expected to reopen in Spring 2025. Hall of Presidents The Hall of Presidents closed at Magic Kingdom on January 20th. The Hall of Presidents The attraction will be closed until later in 2025, though Disney has not shared a specific date. We will keep an eye out for updates, though! The closure is likely to change the current president, as January 20th marked Inauguration Day. While it is closed, other maintenance and routine work may also be happening. Astro Orbiter If you want to blast off into space, you’ll have to head over to Space Mountain because Astro Orbiter is temporarily closed for refurbishment! Astro Orbiter closed as of January 13th and is planned to reopen in the summer of 2025. No specific date has been announced for the high-in-the-sky ride, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for an update from Disney. Astro Orbiter is being reassembled! The ride has been completely dismantled and is being refurbished elsewhere. It definitely looks a little barren as you are walking into Tomorrowland right now! However, Disney has filed a permit that could mean the attraction will soon be back in its place in Tomorrowland, and we are starting to see it getting reassembled. Construction walls are back, and the crane is in place to reassemble. REVIEW: We’ve Got Three Words To Say About This New Magic Kingdom Snack: “Wow. Wow. Wow.” Big Thunder Mountain Railroad On January 6th, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for an extended temporary closure. Chassis testing unit The “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” will be closed for at least a year and will reopen sometime in 2026. The ride will be undergoing maintenance while it is closed. When it reopens, it will have some “new magic,” according to Disney. We can’t wait to see what changes will be coming to this ever-popular roller coaster! We recently spotted some ride testing happening, which was very exciting. Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that has been closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. If you’re looking for a nice spot to hang out in Disney World and take a rest, this could be it! Tortuga Tavern Just like Tomorrowland Terrace, Tortuga Tavern is a seasonal restaurant in Magic Kingdom. It has been a bit since we saw it open. Most recently, it was used as a cookie location for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Tortuga Tavern We had previously spotted shrubs around the restaurant as they worked on the flooring. However, all the shrubs have been taken down now. We don’t know exactly when/if this restaurant will reopen, but we will keep you updated if we learn more! These Are the 13 Best Coffee Spots in Disney World: From Magic Kingdom to Riviera Resort EPCOT Test Track Test Track closed on June 17th, 2024, and Disney is giving this ride a BIG makeover! Disney has shared that the new version of Test Track will take inspiration from the old ride, World of Motion, that was originally there when the park opened in 1982. Test Track Disney shared more details at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Experience, and an updated opening timeline was announced! We’ll be able to ride Test Track once again in late summer 2025. We have gotten a look at the new Test Track cars, too. Recently, we have even been hearing vehicles running on the track. We are getting closer and closer to its reopening! REVIEW: Why Are People Still Skipping the BEST Restaurant in EPCOT? Disney’s Animal Kingdom It’s Tough to Be a Bug It’s Tough to Be a Bug is officially closed for good. This attraction in Disney’s Animal Kingdom invites you to join the bug kingdom on an adventure. While the show didn’t usually make it to the top of favorite attractions in Disney World, it has now officially closed to make way for a new show. It’s Tough to Be a Bug is closed! It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed on March 17th. The show is permanently closed to make way for a brand-new show, “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, expected to debut in winter 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Games The first round of closures began in DinoLand U.S.A. on January 13th, 2025. TriceraTop Spin, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and Fossil Fun Game were closed down, and construction has begun on the brand-new land themed to the Tropical Americas, Pueblo Esperanza. The walls have been up since the closure, and things have been disappearing from behind the walls. Almost everything has been taken down behind the walls, including the large green dinosaur. DinoLand, U.S.A. It is definitely a sad sight, but we are also excited to see Pueblo Esperanza! DINOSAUR, Restaurantosaurus, the snack stands, and The Boneyard remain open. Disney hasn’t announced an official closing date for the rest of DinoLand. However, they have announced that “2025 is your year to visit before it goes extinct!” These Disney Adult Animal Kingdom Hacks Are Getting Out of Control Disney’s Hollywood Studios Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano We are getting close to the closure of this Hollywood Studios restaurant. If you have been wanting to have one last meal here, make sure you stop by on May 10th or before, as the restaurant is officially closing for good on May 11th, 2025. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano The restaurant is closing in Muppets Courtyard to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. themed land. Eventually, the rest of Muppets Courtyard will also close, including Muppet*Vision 3D on June 8th, 2025 (last day to experience the show is June 7th). Come With Us to a NEW Character Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Disney Springs Starbucks on the West Side The Starbucks on the West Side of Disney Springs is temporarily closed for refurbishment. It closed on March 3rd, and it is expected to reopen in mid-summer. Starbucks is currently closed Have no fear, though — you can still get your Starbucks fix in Disney Springs! Head over to the Disney Springs Marketplace location, which will be open during the refurbishment. Caffeine headaches are not allowed in Disney Springs! REVIEW: “This Is Insane” – We’re Testing Out The Newest Menu Items At A Popular Disney Springs Restaurant Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Alright, it is only kind of closing, but we wanted to make sure you were aware! From April 28th until June 16th, 2025, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf will be undergoing refurbishment. However, even though it will be getting refurbished, you can still stop by to play a round of golf. Only ONE course will be open at a time during the refurbishment, so you won’t have your choice of The Summer or The Winter Course; it will just be whichever one is open. Winter Summerland Mini Golf As well, Winter Summerland won’t be taking reservations during this time. If you are looking to play a round, you will just head over to the course as a walk-up. You can also head over to Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf if you are looking for even more mini golf fun. Disney World Hotels Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. Jellyrolls However, this isn’t the end for Jellyrolls, as the bar has said they are “making a move.” We don’t know many details about that move yet, but we will keep you updated. Stormalong Bay and Hurricane Hanna’s– Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts Stormalong Bay is the shared pool between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. It features a beach, a lazy river, a large pool, and an exciting pirate ship slide! When we stopped by recently, we noticed that the pool had been filled back up with water. We are getting closer to its reopening. Stormalong Bay has WATER! This pool area will be closed until June for refurbishment. While it’s closed, hotel guests can use the Tidal (Beach Club), Admiral (Yacht Club), and Dunes Cove (Beach Club) leisure pools. Hurricane Hanna’s, the pool bar at Stormalong Bay, will also be closed during the refurbishment. 6 Overlooked Disney World Hotel Restaurants You Keep Forgetting to Add to Your List Don’t want to go through all of the stress of booking your Disney World trip alone? 26. Okay, so we know a lot of y’all are planning trips to Universal Orlando to see Epic Universe — and we don’t blame you. Gate at Epic Universe Universal has KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK (pun intended) with its new theme park, and we’ve enjoyed visiting it multiple times to check out all five lands, including all the rides, entertainment, and (OF COURSE) dining spots. However, if you’re visiting Universal Orlando from out of town, you might be wondering what hotel is the best to stay in if you’re visiting Epic Universe. We’ve got an answer…but it’s complicated. So, you’ve got pros and cons for staying at the Epic Universe-area hotels and the regular Universal Orlando hotels. But what we recommend is a split stay…and we’re going to tell you why. First, you’re probably going to Universal Orlando for Epic Universe, and honestly, we think it’s the best thing there, so we’d totally book two days’ worth of tickets at Epic and stay within walking distance of the park. Your first choice might be Universal Helios Grand Hotel, but it’s pricey. HOWEVER, staying there means you get a dedicated entrance into Epic Universe, so you’re less than five minutes from the park. If you need to run a souvenir back to your room or just take a short break, it’s SO easy when you’re RIGHT THERE. Universal Helios Grand Hotel However, the Universal Stella Nova Hotel is a little less expensive and even has a dedicated walking path to the park. The walk is a LITTLE longer (about 5–10 minutes), but you’re still close enough to the park to be able to take little breaks in your hotel room in the middle of the day. Universal Stella Nova However, if you’re also visiting Universal Orlando’s other theme parks, staying at these hotels could be a problem. Because they’re close to Epic Universe, they’re further away from Universal’s other parks. If you’re visiting the whole of Universal Orlando, you’ll have to travel 15–20 minutes via bus each day and night (plus you’ll need to add on the time you have to wait for that bus). That means midday breaks or running something back to your hotel room isn’t quite as convenient. If you’re driving, then you have to drive back and forth from the Epic Universe hotels AND pay for parking. Stella Nova Resort parking However, the other Universal Orlando hotels are much closer to Universal’s other parks and CityWalk, meaning they’re more convenient if you’re visiting Universal Volcano Bay, Universal Studios Florida, and Universal Islands of Adventure. If you stay at a signature hotel in that area, you get one thing you don’t get at any of the Epic Universe hotels: a FREE Unlimited Express Pass. This pass lets you skip the standby lines at many rides in Universal’s parks EXCEPT Epic Universe. This pass generally costs between $89.99 and $299.99 per day if paid for separately. Hogwarts Express Line So if you’re ONLY visiting Epic Universe, it makes sense to stay at one of the hotels nearest to the park. However, if you want to visit all of Universal Orlando, we recommend a split-stay: spend two nights at an older signature hotel (Loews Royal Pacific Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel Orlando, or Loews Portofino Bay hotel) and use the walking paths to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure to visit those two parks. Then we’d move over to Helios Grand and spend two days in Epic Universe. That’s four days of Universal epic-ness and could be the key to the perfect Universal Orlando vacation. 27. While many folks choose budget airlines to save some serious cash, these cut costs can lead to miserable traveling experiences. Let’s go somewhere! A budget-friendly airline on the surface may seem like a godsend thanks to its lower fares, but those of us who have flown with them know that not everything that glitters is gold. From hidden fees to uncomfortable inconveniences, there are several negatives when it comes to flying with these cheaper airlines. Before we get into the known issues of flying with so-called budget-friendly airlines, we want to emphasize that it’s CRUCIAL to do your homework and do some math. Most of these issues involve costs, so you can literally add up the sums and compare them to the costs of better-regarded airlines. For other issues, you’ll need to assign costs to how much you value comfort and multiply that by the duration of the flight. For example, how much do you value leg room and entertainment on a 2-hour flight? How much do you value those properties on a 6-hour flight? ©Spirit Airlines Basically, be aware of all your options and don’t just look at the shiny initial numbers. With that said, we found 11 reasons why people are turning away from budget airways in 2025. Hidden Bag Fees Hey, so you know that cheap budget airline fare that is the top reason you’re flying with them and not a better competitor? Yeah…that’s not the only price you’ll be paying. Luggage Most of these cheaper airlines have hidden fees — including bag fees. You might get charged not only for checked bags, but carry-ons, as well. It’s important to check the airline’s bag policy before you book, as these fees could negate the savings you thought you were getting. Boarding Pass Fees If you’re old-school, this next fee will really tick you off. ©themagicforless.com Some ultra-low-cost airlines like Spirit and Allegiant actually charge you to print out a boarding pass at the airport. Once again, these airlines will find small ways to make a few extra bucks while inconveniencing you. Seat Selection Fees While seat selection fees are not exclusive to budget airlines, they aren’t always factored in when selecting the airline. ©Spirit Airlines If you want to select your seat, be prepared to pay extra. Otherwise, be ready to be seated somewhere random. If you’re traveling with a group of people, this can be extra problematic. Hidden Booking Fees Hidden fees are truly the worst, and it’s hard to find dumber flight costs than hidden booking fees. ©Breeze Airways Some airlines like Breeze Airways and Frontier actually have an extra charge for booking a flight online instead of at the airport counter. If this isn’t nickel and diming, we don’t know what is. Lackluster Legroom Alright, so you incurred the costs and are at peace with them. Next, you’re on the flight and a new problem pops up — there’s not a ton of legroom. ©Spirit Budget airlines often prioritize capacity over comfort, so it’s likely you’ll feel cramped. While some airlines like Spirit are working on legroom upgrades, you’ll no doubt be charged extra to experience these perks. Lack of In-Flight Entertainment If you’re used to in-flight movies or watching media on your phone on an airline like Southwest, you’ll have to be ready to be without that luxury when flying a budget airline. Frontier Plane at the Orlando Airport If you plan on streaming video or music, don’t bank on that either, as most of these planes don’t offer WiFi. We recommend downloading media BEFORE you board your plane so that you can watch directly from your device without needing any help from the airline. Fortunately, many streaming services offer downloading options that absolutely help with long trips. Lack Of Complimentary Food While longer flights may offer complimentary snacks and beverages, you’d be hard-pressed to find shorter flights offering the expected complimentary service you’d find on one of the bigger airlines. Allegiant Air To get snacks or beverages, you may need to buy premium fare or buy items separately. Many of these airlines have food and drinks onboard, but it’ll cost ya. Flight Delays and Cancellation Issues If you’re paying less to fly, but you’re not flying on time, is it really worth it if you hold the principle “time is money” to be true? ©Frontier Airlines Research has been conducted, and it has been confirmed that budget airlines like Frontier and Allegiant have some real delay issues. They also struggle with cancellations, as does Spirit. Part of paying more for higher-tier airlines includes better reliability, generally. Inflexible Ticketing While many airlines will either refund your airfare with credits or actual cash, you’re more likely to deal with a ticketing headache with budget airlines. ©Tad Denson | Breeze Airways Get ready for wild cancellation fees, problems due to overbooking, and annoying refund policies and procedures. Poor Customer Service Budget airlines are trying to maximize profits, which means they might not have easily accessible customer service. ©Spirit Airlines Spirit, for example, has cut back on its workforce AND its customer service hours, making it harder to get in touch with an actual human being in a timely manner. Dealing with any type of customer service is never ideal, but it’s even less so with limited budget airlines. Limited Airports and Flight Times The reality of budget airlines is that they are a dying breed. We’ll likely only see them continue to offer fewer services around eligible airports. Spirit Airlines at Orlando Airport Most of these airlines are bleeding money, which means they’ll start (and already have) cutting routes and limiting how many flights depart each day. That means you may not have the most optimal flight choices at your nearest airport and may need to go to a different airport to get your preferred flight. Frontier Airlines We are professional travelers, and while we find value in budget airlines, we’ve also experienced some or most of these issues. We also keep a pulse on the air travel industry and can keep you up to date on the latest travel developments, so keep it posted right here at DFB to stay in the know. 28. Let’s talk about food (okay, okay, you’ve got us; we always want to talk about food). But let’s talk about a specific food item, one that we’ve written extensively about in the past: the ubiquitous Fish and Chips. Fish and Chips Now, we love grabbing some Fish and Chips in Disney World, and we even have our favorite spots (hello, U.K. Pavilion). One of those favorite spots, though, will be celebrating ALL THINGS Fish and Chips on June 6th, which just happens to be National Fish and Chips Day (yes, it’s a thing — we looked it up). If you really want to go all out on National Fish and Chips Day on June 6th, you’ll want to head on over to Disney Springs to visit Cookes of Dublin (the quick-service location of Raglan Road). Now, being an Irish restaurant, they know a little something about fish and chips, which is why this is one of our favorite spots to nab it. If you grab Fish and Chips at Cookes on June 6th, though, you can get it for just $9.99, which is a 40% discount from its regular price. Cookes of Dublin Now, the Fish and Chips here actually have some SERIOUS history. When Raglan Road’s Irish owners shipped the pub’s furnishings from Dublin to Disney Springs, they also sent a “chipper” that has been used to serve fresh fish and chips to three generations in Ireland and is now serving it to those who visit Disney Springs. And although the Cookes version of Fish and Chips isn’t wrapped in an actual newspaper, which is tradition, the wrapping still LOOKS like a newspaper, so close enough. Fish and Chips TIME! Don’t forget to swing by Disney Springs on June 6th for authentic Fish and Chips on National Fish and Chips Day. AND…if you’re looking for a little something sweet after, you’ll want to check out some of the best snacks shops in Disney World, including Everglazed Donuts and Cold Brew, Amorette’s Patisserie, Vivoli il Gelato, and more!
