If you’re going on a cruise soon, you might want to pay attention and take some extra health precautions. ©Holland America If you’ve been following the news, you may be aware that several cruise ships have recently been struck by viral outbreaks, most notably norovirus. Many cruise lines have been affected by outbreaks, including Cunard and Holland America. Well, in the last week alone, three more cruise ships had gastrointestinal outbreaks as reported by the CDC. Holland America has been hit with another norovirus outbreak, this time on the cruise ship Eurodam for voyage dates from April 12th through May 3rd. Over 140 passengers of 2,038 total reported being ill on the cruise, while 22 of the ship’s 830 crew members also reported illnesses. ©Holland America Another Holland America ship was also hit with norovirus this week, the Zuiderdam, which set sail from January 2nd to May 9th. On that ship, 55 of 1,149 passengers reported illnesses, while 14 of the 751 crew members working on the ship reported illnesses. ©Holland America A third ship also reported a norovirus outbreak. The Lindblad Expeditions ship National Geographic Sea Lion had an outbreak during a voyage from April 15th through April 29th. During that cruise, 5 of 43 passengers fell ill with norovirus, while 2 of 37 crew members reported illnesses. ©Lindblad Expeditions So what’s going on with all these norovirus outbreaks? According to USA Today, CDC data shows a new dominant strain of norovirus that is associated with the recent outbreaks on land, as well as at sea. However, cruise ships also may be relying too heavily on hand sanitizer, which is not as effective against norovirus as washing hands with soap and water. If you will be going on a cruise soon, be sure to wash your hands with soap and water as often as possible. If you do develop systems, you’ll want to isolate yourself from other passengers and clean your space with disinfectant. All cruise ship illnesses should also be reported to the ship’s medical staff, and follow their instructions. Stay tuned to DFB for more. 3 Secrets Epic Universe Doesn’t Want You to Know
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Universal’s new theme park is (mostly) living up to its almost unprecedented hype. Celestial Park in Epic Universe The park is also chock-full of secrets, from construction changes to deceptive architecture that masks the length of queues to easter eggs within the park’s portals; there’s plenty below the surface. Harry Potter and the Missing Broom The first Epic Universe “secret” comes from the park’s earliest development phase. At one point, there were plans to include a second Harry Potter attraction in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Specifically, the rumored VR attraction was to be based around replicating the sensation of flying on a broom. ©Universal The ride, which was also rumored for Universal Studios Florida at one point, would have — somewhat shockingly — been the first attraction in any Potter-land to try and replicate one of the most iconic features of the series. The Battle at the Ministry Queue is MASSIVE If you want to meet your step goal at Epic Universe, just hop in line for Universal’s latest Wizarding World E-Ticket attraction. The massive queue for this line, which begins in the land’s recreation of 1920s Paris from the Fantastic Beasts series before *SPOILERS* transporting guests to a full-scale recreation of the 1990s British Ministry of Magic through the magic of the Floo Network, stretches for over a mile! The queue is HUGE This long queue, in the vein of Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure, is necessary for two major reasons. First, the technologically advanced attraction is housed in a huge show building that guests need to be ferried to, and second, the ride is going to be EXTREMELY popular. Dark Universe’s Underground Residents The final “secret” we’re looking at today is one of the more ingenious — if somewhat icky — easter eggs in the park’s Dark Universe. According to the area’s lore, the town of Darkmoor features a coven of vampires living beneath it. (These are the same vampires who operate Das Stakehaus within the land.) Inside Das Stakehaus In the middle of the land is a well where residents can “provide blood” to said vampires during the day. In fact, if one listens closely, you can hear the vampires at the bottom of the well. Can you hear them? These are just a sliver of the secrets held beneath the surface of Epic Universe, which opens to the public on May 22nd. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the NEW park. If you’re heading to EPCOT anytime soon, there are rules you need to be cognizant of. Grand Marnier Orange Slush Some are official, while others are “unspoken” but just as important to ensuring a good day at Disney World’s original second gate. Be Careful Drinking Around the World Drinking around the world and sampling various drinks from the World Showcase’s countries is one of the most fun things one can do at EPCOT. However, it shall go without saying that there are certain rules one should follow. Beyond the obvious standards of not overindulging and always remaining respectful of Cast Members and fellow guests, there are two other major rules that those who participate need to keep in mind: Stay hydrated, and stay fed. Schōnauer Apfel Liqueur While imbibing alcohol, it’s integral to not do so on an empty stomach and to drink plenty of water to remain hydrated. The latter is especially important during Florida’s hotter seasons. Save Spaceship Earth Since Spaceship Earth is the massive weenie just inside the park’s main entrance, it can be very tempting to make a beeline for the attraction. This often leads to inflated wait times for the attraction in the morning, which dip much lower during the afternoon and evening hours. So, we’re certainly not saying skip the ride — it’s a classic — just wait until the times go down to essentially a walk-on level. EPCOT Carrying a Weapon On the surface, this one may seem obvious. Neither weapons nor faux weapons are allowed at EPCOT (or any Disney World park); however, things can get a bit murky if you purchase a weapon or a faux weapon at the park –– like some of the collectibles available in a few World Showcase countries — and then carry it through the park. Make sure to keep that receipt on you, and maybe drop it off back at the hotel before park hopping if possible. It’s the One in the Center! Start in Mexico There’s perhaps no more heated Disney debate than whether to start World Showcase in Mexico or Canada. The answer is obvious and always has been. Nuff’ Said. Mexico Pavilion Be sure to follow these “rules” next time you’re at EPCOT. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World! It’s official — Disney is building a seventh landmark theme park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This announcement comes as The Walt Disney Company announced a partnership with Miral, “Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences.” The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, announced an agreement to create a landmark Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The waterfront resort will be located on Yas Island, a world-class destination for entertainment and leisure, connecting travelers from the Middle East and Africa, India, Asia, Europe, and beyond. This seventh Disney theme park resort will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture. This new Disney resort will be located on Yas Island, a spot known for entertainment and tourism. The island is already home to a few other, smaller theme parks, which begs the question — what sort of intellectual property (IP) will Disney bring to its brand new park?! Disney Imagineers will be leading the creative design and operational oversight, and the new resort will be fully developed and built by Miral. Miral has developed other attractions in Abu Dhabi, such as SeaWorld Yas Island, Warner Bros. World Yas Island, and more, so it makes sense that Disney would partner with them to bring this theme park to life. According to Disney, the theme park “will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture.” The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, announced an agreement to create a landmark Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This seventh Disney theme park resort will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture. Iger referred to the park as Disneyland Abu Dhabi, and Disney confirmed the new theme park resort will offer: Signature Disney entertainment Themed accommodations Unique dining and retail experiences, Storytelling in a way that celebrates both the heritage of Disney and the futuristic and cultural essence of Abu Dhabi ©Disney But, what sort of storytelling could that be? Disney hasn’t officially revealed what lands or IPs will come to this park, but they did release an announcement video along with the news that could clue us into what’s in store for Disneyland Abu Dhabi. Keep in mind that this is pure speculation and that nothing has been confirmed by Disney so far. In the video, we see flashes of various Disney IP — which may or may not be a clue to what’s coming to Disneyland Abu Dhabi — including The Lion King… ©Disney …AVATAR… ©Disney …Iron Man (MARVEL)… ©Disney …Zootopia… ©Disney …Frozen… ©Disney …and Star Wars! ©Disney Disney also showed some existing park rides and elements — is this another hint of what’s to come?! We spotted the Millennium Falcon… ©Disney …TRON Lightcycles… ©Disney …Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway… ©Disney …Journey of Water: Inspired by Moana… ©Disney …and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. ©Disney Disney pointed out that the UAE is located within a four-hour flight of one-third of the world’s population, “making it a significant gateway for tourism.” According to Travel and Tour World, India is one of the largest sources of tourism for the UAE. CEO Bob Iger commented on the news, stating, “This is a thrilling moment for our company as we announce plans to build an exciting Disney theme park resort in Abu Dhabi, whose culture is rich with an appreciation of the arts and creativity.” ©Disney We’ll be on the lookout for more updates on this HUGE announcement. Things could be changing at Disney World restaurants, thanks to a new Florida bill. One of our meals at Homecomin’ We previously reported that HB 535 was making its way through the Florida State House and had passed its first committee approval. The bill would make it easier for restaurants or hotels to remove someone who is not paying their bill. The bill would also “ban automatic gratuity and service charges for parties of fewer than six guests at restaurants, cafes, and other food service establishments.” It would also not require automatic gratuity for parties of more than six guests for those who complain to a manager about the quality of service. Now, we have an update on that bill. The House Bill HB 535 has been laid on the table, but this bill is now basically done for, and a new similar bill is in play in the Senate, SB 606. The new bill would require restaurants to include a notice on the food menu, written contract, website, and mobile apps that “includes the amount or percentage of the operations charge and the purpose of the operations charge. “ Summer House on the Lake in Disney Springs It would also require that each copy of the receipt a customer receives must have separate lines for gratuity, an operations charge, and sales tax “so that it is clear to the customer what is being charged.” If that operations charge includes automatic gratuity, the receipt must have it stated on a separate line. Cinderella’s Royal Table Note that this new law would not apply to dining plans, dining packages, or a fixed-price meal “for which the price of the plan or package or meal is disclosed to the customer before purchase.” This new law, which would be effective as of July 1st, 2026, has already passed both the Florida House and Senate, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates to get you more details. Walt Disney Co. is planning a theme park resort for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, the company confirmed Wednesday. The attraction will be on the waterfront of Yas Island, already a leisure travel destination. The new resort will be developed, built and operated by Miral, an Abu Dhabi-based developer. Walt Disney Co. and Walt Disney Imagineering will lead creative design and operational oversight. It will use Disney licensed properties. Neither timeline nor theming were shared for the project on Wednesday. “Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati – an oasis of extraordinary Disney entertainment at this crossroads of the world,” Robert Iger, Disney’s CEO, said in a news release. “It will rise from this land in spectacular fashion, blending contemporary architecture with cutting edge technology to offer guests deeply immersive entertainment experiences in unique and modern ways.” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, touted the opportunity. “The location of our park is incredibly unique – anchored by a beautiful waterfront – which will allow us to tell our stories in completely new ways,” he said. “This project will reach guests in a whole new part of the world, welcoming more families to experience Disney than ever before.” “What we are creating with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination — an experience that will inspire generations across the region and the world, creating magical moments and memories that families will treasure forever,” said Khalifa Al Mubarak, Miral’s chairman. The announcement came on the heels of Walt Disney Co. quarterly earnings report, including increases in revenue and operating income for its parks and destinations division. This is a breaking story. Disney Lorcana fans, we’ve got BIG news to share! ©Disney Disney Lorcana has quickly risen to popularity through its innovative storylines, interactive play, and collectible appeal to trading card game players and Disney fans alike. While the game was relatively new to the world in late 2023, Lorcana’s creators have some big updates to share that will change how you’ve been playing the game up to this point! Disney has several new updates for Lorcana fans! In case you’re not already familiar with Disney Lorcana, it’s a popular trading card game set in the wondrous realm of Lorcana. Players will take on the role of Illumineers who wield magic ink to summon a team of Disney characters known as glimmers, who appear in both familiar and fantastical ways. The game was designed to be easy to learn for TCG newcomers while still offering strategic depth for experienced players. Disney Lorcana Starter Set Disney Lorcana first appeared in August 2023 with only a few hundred cards and has quickly become an increasingly popular game of strategy, whit, and even popular with collectors. It’s a welcoming game to beginners, expert trading card game players, and Disney fans alike. Today, Lorcana now hosts over 1500 trading cards to it entire spread with 7 different sets with an 8th on its way! Disney Lorcana Cards Current Lorcana players and Disney fans alike may relish this newest update the most. Those familiar with the ongoing story featuring Jafar from Aladdin will culminate when Reign of Jafar, the 8th set for Disney Lorcana, releases this summer. In this latest set, Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. ©Disney Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar, and glimmers like Jasmine, a Steady Strategist, and Rapunzel, a High Climber, will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier. Illumineers’ Quest: Palace Heist is a new co-op experience-in-a-box that will pit up to 4 players against Jafar and his minions. ©Disney The pre-release events in game stores and Disney store locations for Reign of Jafar begins on May 30th while packs will be available everywhere June 6th, however, if you’re ready to get started as soon as possible, you can pre-order Reign of Jafar through online retailers now! ©Disney Lorcana has also proudly announced that a New Collection Starter set will be released in the fall! This new set, called Fabled, will also expand over more parts of the world, like Brazil and other Asian locations, bringing the Lorcana world to new players and interested fans. This set will have a lot of important new aspects to it. And, for those who love to search for versions of their favorite characters, there will be two new rarities to look for in each booster pack: Iconic and Epic. Iconic cards will be extremely rare, with only two appearing in each set, while Epic cards will appear more often than Enchanted cards and feature special artwork and foil treatments. ©Disney Fabled‘s set will also mark the first time the game will rotate cards out of being legally available to competitive players to include in their decks. The first four sets will rotate out of the Core Constructed format, but will still be available to play in a new format, called Infinity Constructed. While all fans will still be able to play with their entire card collection, Lorcana sees this change as an important one to take to keep the competition fresh. The new launch will get its start in China and Japan, beginning with a Fabled Prerelease on August 29th, and the full release launching on September 5th. ©Disney Ravensburger (the game’s manufacturer) will also be printing a lot of cards back from the first few sets, such as Stitch Rock Star, Tinker Bell Giant Fairy, and Winnie the Pooh Honey Wizard. This new printing means you’ll be able to collect new enchanted cards of new and familiar characters. ©Disney In their announcement, Disney and Ravensburger also noted that cards featuring characters from A Goofy Movie are coming! And, Maleficent is being brought back in a new format as an infinity constructed card. Disney Lorcana World Championships will take place at Disney World on June 28th and 29th. The top 28 players from around the world have been invited to attend and compete in fierce competition, as fans are able to watch it all unfold online. Additionally, check with your local game store for information and stay tuned for updated details on how to obtain a non-foil “A Whole New World” promo card, which will also be made available to viewers. Our game mid play As Disney Lorcana continues to grow, so will the game. Ravensburger will be announcing season 2 soon, as well as plans to build up programs. A heroes’ welcome was waiting for Disneyland Fire Department firefighters Mark McLean and Larry Chu, along with six other local firefighters and police personnel, during a special cavalcade in Disneyland park on Monday, May 5. All of those honored during the cavalcade bravely responded on the frontlines of the devastating Los Angeles fires in January 2025. Chien Yu of Pasadena Fire Department, Collin Davis of Sierra Madre Fire Department, Adam Van Gerpen of Los Angeles Fire Department and Ian Van Gerpen of Los Angeles Fire Department kick off the Heroes Salute Cavalcade. The celebration marked the first day eligible California firefighters, Los Angeles-based law enforcement personnel and emergency medical technicians, who helped combat the LA fires, could use their complimentary Heroes Tickets for themselves and a guest to visit The Happiest Place on Earth. Larry Chu, firefighter at Disneyland and Sierra Madre Fire Departments, waves during the cavalcade.Cast Member Heroes Celebrated at Disneyland Disneyland Resort cast members Mark and Larry are not only committed to protecting Disneyland Resort as firefighters, but both cast members are part of local fire departments and worked with them to battle the LA fires. “It’s humbling and feels cool to be honored,” said Larry about being in the cavalcade for his heroic efforts in the Eaton Fire. “We are not used to the limelight, and it’s not what we strive to do in this profession, but it feels good.” Larry has been with the Disneyland Fire Department for the past three years in addition to being with the Sierra Madre Fire Department as a firefighter paramedic for over four years. A pivotal moment in Larry’s life that sparked his interest in becoming a firefighter was a house fire in 2007 that sent his mother to the hospital. The fire chief on site showed Larry around and shared how they cared for his mom and mitigated the housefire. “From that moment, it just kind of hit me that firefighting was something I wanted to do to help others,” Larry said. “We get into this profession to help people out on their worst days. I want to do what I can to make their day better.” Mark poses with Pluto during the Heroes Salute Cavalcade. Mark, the third in this family to be a Disneyland Resort firefighter after his uncle and father, has dedicated the past 21 years to fighting fires for the Los Angeles Fire Department and an amazing 15 years with the Disneyland Fire Department. As soon as he clocked out from his shift at the resort the night the Palisades Fire broke out, Mark headed straight to his station where he would remain on duty for 23 days straight. “We don’t think of ourselves as heroes, being a firefighter is just a career or profession that we enjoy doing,” Mark shared. “It is humbling that you chose us out of all of the men and women in fire service.” Heroes’ families join in the celebration. All heroes were joined by family members, who were also honored in the cavalcade for their role in supporting the heroes while they worked during the LA fires. Mark’s father, David McLean, joined in the cavalcade supporting Mark, along with Mark’s wife and mother. David joined Disneyland Resort after more than 30 years in the firefighting profession and has been with the resort for more than 15 years. Mickey Mouse and Disneyland Resort President Thomas Mazloum, join Mark and his father, David McLean, at Sleeping Beauty Castle. “I’m really proud of him,” David said beaming with pride while talking about his son. “He is a good hard worker, and he sure loves working at Disneyland. You can’t beat working here with my son!” The Disneyland Resort thanks the heroes that joined in our celebration today and those whose bravery continues to inspire our community. Disney Supports Rebuilding Efforts Across Los Angeles The Heroes Ticket is one of the many ways The Walt Disney Company is supporting relief efforts in the community: In January, the company announced a $15 million commitment for immediate response and rebuilding efforts in the Los Angeles area. Disney VoluntEARS hosted donation drives to collect more than 200,000 essential items for impacted individuals and families. A Disney LA Strong t-shirt is available for purchase now on DisneyStore.com as a symbol of community support, and a reminder that together we have the strength to rebuild and heal. For each t-shirt sold in the U.S. through December 31, 2025, Disney will donate $25 to the American Red Cross to help people affected by the fires in California during 2025. Ahoy there, pirates! A new pirates-themed lounge, The Beak and Barrel, is opening in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom in late summer this year, and we just got a HUGE update! Welcome to Adventureland Disney wants you to truly feel like a pirate when you enter the space, and to do so, they’re changing their own rule. The Beak and Barrel will serve alcohol! ©Disney Why is this a big deal, you may ask? Previously, in Magic Kingdom, you could only get alcohol by dining in a sit-down restaurant and not at quick-service locations or food carts. The Beak and Barrel is changing the game! Other parks have alcohol at more than just sit-down restaurants, which is why you’ll see guests around EPCOT holding onto their drinks and taking them from area to area. We’ve never seen this before at Magic Kingdom, but it has us wondering if this is going to change in more places in the future. ©Disney This lounge is still family-friendly, and they say “the menu features tasty options for pirates of all ages — as well as refreshing cocktails for Guests ages 21 and up.” We haven’t seen the menu yet, but we’re excited to see what the cocktails are! If purchasing alcohol, guests must be over 21 years old, and there is a maximum of 2 drinks per guest. ©Disney Disney also dropped that there is a 45-minute time limit for your time inside the pirate bar. You’ll want to make an advance reservation before heading to the lounge, but remember that you won’t be there for very long. ©Disney The drink limits and 45-minute reservations remind us a lot of Oga’s Cantina at Hollywood Studios, and while they are more lenient on the time since opening, they are still turning over tables quickly to get the next folks in. We’ll be ready when the menu drops for The Beak and Barrel but in the meantime, make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for moreDisney news. Big news, Aldi lovers! Your favorite store is opening more locations! Aldi Aldi said they planned to open 225 new stores in 2025, and we’re getting quite a few more in Florida. Thirteen new Aldi stores are opening in Florida, three of which will be in the Central Florida area. Florida is already home to 243 stores, and we’re happy to see more coming our way! One Orlando location at 1403 South Hiawassee Road is set to open this summer and employ 15 to 20 people. ALDI Some of these stores are former Winn-Dixie buildings that Aldi is taking over and turning into its own supermarkets. They started this process last summer with nine conversions. Aldi stores are typically smaller than typical grocery stores, being only about 12,000 square feet. The Senior Vice President told the Orlando Business Journal, “The stores they are converting, they are subdividing the spaces and setting up a traditional Aldi footprint. Aldi derives its low costs from many things, including operating very efficiently. All of them are generally the same size and dimensions, so they can merchandise them all similarly.” ©ALDI Aldi is investing $9 billion to open 800 new locations across the United States. In March 2024, they announced these plans after acquiring Jacksonville-based Southern Grocers and its 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores, including the 39 in Central Florida. ©ALDI A store in Deltona at 2880 Howland Boulevard is opening on April 30th. The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will happen on May 1st at 9 AM. The first 100 customers at the grand opening will receive a Golden Ticket that can be worth up to $100 and a bag filled with Aldi products. Other shoppers will also get a chance to win $500 Aldi gift car each day from May 1st to 4th. Aldi We love Aldi and its amazing deals, especially when it comes to Disney merchandise. Even more stores in Central Florida mean more chances to get amazing deals. Keep following Disney Food Blog for more! This NEW Disney World Discount Is a GAME CHANGER
Disney4me posted a topic in Disney Food/Restaurants
Summer 2025 may be a game changer for Walt Disney World pricing, as the company has unleashed a slew of discounts on tickets, hotels, and dining for the upcoming season. TRON Lightcycle / Run These discounts, especially when combined, can be game-changing for a trip to Disney World, as they can arguably make a trip to “The Most Magical Place on Earth” arguably “cheaper” for the first time in a long time. Some of these discounts include: $89 Per Day 3-Day, 3-Park Ticket: For visits between April 6th and September 22nd, Disney is offering a 3-day, 3-park ticket starting at $89 per day ($267 total, plus tax) for EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. (NOTE: These tickets are not valid for admission to Magic Kingdom). Half-Off Kids Tickets: From May 27th through September 20th, 3-day or longer standard Walt Disney World theme park tickets for kids (ages 3 to 9) are 50% off their normal price. Early Summer 30% Off Rooms: From May 1st and July 31st, Disney is offering up to 30% on rooms at “select Disney Resorts Collection hotels when you stay 5 consecutive nights.” However, these “Early Summer” dates aren’t the ONLY time you can save 30% off on a Disney hotel room. Late Summer Fall 30% Off Rooms: From August 1st to October 11th (so yes, the very next day), Disney is also offering up to 30% off on rooms at select Disney Resorts Collection hotels when you stay 5 consecutive nights.” Annual Passholder Savings: AP Holders can save up to 40% on Rooms for stays on select nights from June 1st to July 31st. In addition, lesser discounts are available for stays from May 1st through the 31st. FREE Dining Plan: Disney is offering FREE Dining Plans with the purchase of a “non-discounted 4-night, 4-day Walt Disney Travel Company package that includes a room at a select Disney Resorts Collection hotel and a theme park ticket with a Park Hopper option” in the following date ranges: June 29th to September 30th, October 20th to November 1st, and December 6th to December 22nd. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind So, why is Disney offering more discounts this year than at any other time since the pandemic? There are likely several issues at play: The first is the economy. Between inflation and a decrease in international tourism based on political factors, Disney is potentially facing a soft financial demand for theme park visits this summer, and is arguably compensating with discounts without the optic of “lowering” prices. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Lightning Lane The second is arguably the opening of Epic Universe. While many Disney fans and even executives may argue that the opening of Universal’s new theme park is nothing but beneficial for Disney (which to be fair, has some historical precedent on its side) there’s no denying that Epic Universe has a lot of hype and initially positive reviews behind it, Therefore, it stands to reason that Disney may be preemptively reacting to the new park. If nothing else, these discounts may lead to some travelers who were only planning on visiting Universal to see Epic Universe to add some Disney days to their trip. Epic Universe If you’re thinking about heading to Disney World this coming summer, there are a wide array of discounts to take advantage of. Give Kids the World Village Inc. has announced its new leader. Caroline Schumacher, currently the CEO of Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, will become president and chief executive of the Kissimmee-based nonprofit in June. Schumacher previously worked with Give Kids the World in volunteer services, guest services and operations leadership for almost two decades. “Stepping into the role at Give Kids the World feels like coming full circle, honoring Henri Landwirth’s vision in a new way, for a cause that has always been close to my heart,” Schumacher said in a news release Tuesday. Landwirth, a hotel owner and philanthropist, helped found both Give Kids the World and the Orlando-based Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. He died in 2018. Schuamcher takes over the Give Kids the World leadership from Pamela Landwirth, former wife of Henri Landwirth, who left the organization in January after three decades. “Caroline brings a deep personal connection to the mission of Give Kids the World and a proven record of innovative leadership,” said John Nichols, chairman of the organization’s board. Give Kids the World Village is an 89-acre resort that hosts children with critical illnesses and their families free of charge. It has been in operation since 1986. It has served more than 200,000 families. dbevil@orlandosentinel.com View the full article
