Earlier this month, we reported Disney was suing Florida’s Orange County over several inflated property tax appraisals. Hi Mickey! And now a huge ruling has just landed in Disney’s favor. Disney went to court over Orange County Property Appraiser Rick Singh’s assessment of Walt Disney World’s theme parks and hotels, filing at least a dozen lawsuits in the Orange Circuit Court. While rulings are still pending for most of these cases, the Orlando Sentinel is has reported a verdict has come with regards to one of the assessed values which Disney deemed “excessive.” Disney’s BoardWalk Inn The ruling was issued June 19, and the appellate court declared the assessment process that Singh used to appraise the Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort is illegal under Florida law. Singh’s office reported this deluxe resort owed an annual property tax bill of more than $4 million after nearly doubling the assessed value of Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort to nearly $340 million. Beach Club Singh was elected to the position of Orange County’s property appraiser in 2012 and concluded some properties had been under accessed by his predecessors. Through his reevaluations, the results were sometimes dramatically higher than previous assessments. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Now experts are predicting Disney and other hotel chains, (many who have experienced financial loss due to the global health crisis) will jump on this opportunity to push for lower tax assessments. Since the new ruling, Disney has already begun challenging the assessed values of at least 10 other hotels. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Jacquee Wahler, a Disney spokesperson said, “We are pleased that the court concluded that the method used by the property appraiser violated Florida law. We look forward to a reassessment of our properties consistent with Florida law and the court of appeal’s ruling.” We’ll continue to follow this developing story. As of August 30, 2020, the prix-fixe starting price at the Chef’s Table dinner at Disney World’s premier Victoria & Albert’s Restaurant is going up from $250 per guest to $350 per guest! Chef’s Table Champagne Toast at Victoria & Albert’s While we love a signature dining experience like Victoria & Albert’s, there certainly comes a time where we have to wonder if it’s still worth the price. If you’ve been considering booking the Chef’s Table, you now have an additional $100 per person to consider. Let’s break the entire experience down to determine if a $350 dinner at Disney World is really worth it. What is Victoria & Albert’s? The Chef’s Table is quite literally the crème de la crème when it comes to Disney World dining. But to fully wrap our heads around WHY it’s so elegant, let’s first chat about the restaurant that the Chef’s Table calls home. Victoria & Albert’s is a AAA Five Diamond restaurant located in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Victoria & Albert’s Menu Cover Victoria & Albert’s is the most critically acclaimed restaurant in Disney World, and possibly even in the entire state of Florida. If you haven’t caught on by now, it’s an extremely high-end, luxury experience. It’s also a highly sought-after experience. Advance Dining Reservations go FAST at Victoria & Albert’s so be ready to book it at 7:00AM EST SHARP when that booking window opens up. New Zealand Langoustine with Passion Fruit Nuoc Cham Needless to say, dining at Victoria & Albert’s is the ultimate “Signature” endeavor. On top of the extremely high price, there is also a strict dress code guests must adhere to, children under ten years of age are not permitted, and the Disney Dining Plan is not accepted. Harpist at Victoria & Albert’s But folks who have been lucky enough to grab a reservation and get to eat at Victoria & Albert’s say that it is a one-of-a-kind dining experience that is NOT to be missed. Our experiences here have been stellar. In our opinion, any restaurant that comes with a HUGE menu of JUST Still Water options is at least worth checking out. Water Menu at Victoria & Albert’s Victoria & Albert’s is broken up into three separate dining rooms, each with their own unique experience. First is the Main Dining Room, where most guests are seated. The room itself is very elegant and features a live harpist most nights! In the past, guests in the Main Dining Room would choose between a seven or ten-course menu, but they’ve recently switched to the Chef’s Degustation Menu. Main Dining Room at Victoria & Albert’s The Chef’s Degustation Menu allows guests to choose anywhere between eight and twelve courses. Guests receive personalized menus that Victoria & Albert’s begins to construct about a week prior to your reservation. You are contacted to go through any allergies, likes, and dislikes, at which point a menu is created especially for you. Personalized Menu at Victoria & Albert’s For a more intimate dining experience, guests can dine in the Queen Victoria Room. Currently, this room only accommodates up to eight guests at a time spread out over four tables of two, and you are also served a version of the Chef’s Degustation Menu. Queen Victoria Room at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort As for the food itself, Victoria & Albert’s prides itself on having a superb menu filled with rare ingredients from around the state, country, and world. According to Disney’s website, their menu features “truffles from Italy, Russian Osetra caviar, beef from Japan, poulet rouge from North Carolina and local Florida shrimp.” Imperial Caviar with Alaskan King Crab Guests can also choose to add an optional wine pairing to their meal, which includes, according to Disney, “Over 700 selections of wine” with 4,200 bottles in their cellar, including such “rare and valuable vintages as 1961 Château Margaux and 1982 Château Mouton-Rothschild, plus a world-class collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.” The wine pairing is an additional $150 per guest, regardless of which room you are dining in. Victoria and Albert’s Seating No matter where you dine at Victoria & Albert’s, we think you’re in for a real treat. But the reason we’re all gathered today is to talk about The Chef’s Table. Read our most recent review of Victoria & Albert’s – from the Main Dining Room – here! What is the Chef’s Table and why is it so expensive? As we hinted at earlier, if you want to experience the absolute height of fine dining, the Chef’s Table is the place to be. This single table is located in the heart of the Victoria & Albert’s kitchen, and it only seats one party per evening. You may be surprised to find despite its higher price, the Chef’s Table feels a lot less “formal” than the Main Dining Room and Queen Victoria Room, as the setting is much more homey and you are literally right next to a brightly lit, bustling kitchen. The service at the Chef’s Table takes approximately three hours and takes guests through a highly personalized menu where you get to sample the absolute best offerings coming out of the kitchen. The dining can only be matched by the entertaining service, as you get to interact with the chefs and learn anything and everything they’d like to share with you. Chef Joe prepares Octopus in the Victoria and Albert’s Kitchen Those who have dined at the Chef’s Table often say that the best part is you get a front-row seat to all the action happening in the kitchen! So, ask as many questions as you want: you essentially have FULL ACCESS to the chefs! It’s a fascinating experience to get to see these talented chefs working and to get to hear their personal stories! View from the Chef’s Table The Chef’s Table is a truly customized experience. Every guest’s preference is taken into account at Victoria & Albert’s, but those dining at the Chef’s Table are in for a real treat. The chefs that the guest’s interact with at the Chef’s Table craft their very own degustation menu that features all of their fresh and rare ingredients, depending on the party’s tastes. Don’t like chocolate? No problem. Allergic to shellfish? No worries! The chefs will work with you to get you a meal they know you’ll love! Read our review of the Chef’s Table at Victoria & Albert’s here! But is it WORTH that pricetag? A highly customized dinner sure sounds like the ultimate Disney World experience, but is it worth $250, soon to be $350? Since the wine pairing is considered an add-on in each of the three dining rooms, we won’t consider that as a factor (but if you can spring it, you totally should cause it’s pretty fantastic to go with this meal!). Maple Glazed Manchester Qual with Chestnut Gnocchi All three rooms (Main Dining Room, Queen Victoria Room, and the Chef’s Table) are served some version of a personalized menu. While the Main Dining Room and Queen Victoria Room are served versions of the Chef’s Degustation Menu, those seated at the Chef’s Table receive an even MORE personalized experience and personalized selection of food. Victoria and Albert’s Chef’s Table The fact that Victoria & Albert’s pays super close attention to EACH individual diner’s preferences is a big plus and something you don’t find at every fine dining restaurant. At the Chef’s Table in particular, you’re dining there for not only amazing food, but a top-notch EXPERIENCE. If you’re going in thinking you’re just dropping a lot of money for just any old meal, you’re going in with the wrong mindset! Servers at Victoria & Albert’s Even in Victoria & Albert’s, you can arguably get away with a “cheaper” dinner by choosing to dine in the Main Dining Room. If your goal is to say you ate at Victoria & Albert’s, you can do so without spending extra to dine at the Chef’s Table, and you will STILL have a spectacular evening; BUT you will still be shelling out a good chunk of change. Victoria and Albert’s Chef’s Table Only Has One Seating Per Night If you appreciate fine dining, the price may be justifiable to you. Really it comes down to your personal tastes and if this is an experience that you will truly appreciate and enjoy. There are other Signature Restaurants at Disney World that deliver high-quality food and service for a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind, however, that you will be losing out on that extremely personalized touch. Chef making herbed gnocchi If you know you want to dine at Victoria & Albert’s but are unsure of which room is right for you, remember that the Chef’s Table will be a little louder and more laid back since you are literally in the middle of the restaurant’s kitchen. If you want a more romantic and quiet vibe, you may be better off in the Main Dining Room or — even more private — the Queen Victoria Room. Main Dining Room at Victoria & Albert’s There’s no way around it — an evening at Victoria & Albert’s can add up quickly. For just a party of two to dine at the Chef’s Table you could also afford another night or two (or more!) at your resort, more days on your park tickets, being able to add a park hopper, adding the Disney Dining Plan, and much more! White-Glove Chocolate Truffle Service Paying hundreds of dollars, even upwards of a thousand dollars, for a SINGLE meal is, frankly, excessive, even if you are used to Signature Dining experiences. Also remember that the Chef’s Table is roughly a three-hour experience, which is a hefty amount of time if you’re trying to maximize your time in Disney World! Lemon-Strawberry Cremeux BUT, it does have that “once in a lifetime” meal feeling to it. In the end, like all components of a Disney World vacation, it is truly up to YOU to determine if a $350 dinner at Disney World is worth the cost. But if you need some final persuading in either direction, we may be able to help! The Chef’s Table may be worth it to you if: You want to try what is possibly the most personalized experience Disney World has to offer. You truly appreciate fine dining and all that it entails, so much so that a behind-the-scenes look at the kitchen makes your heart sing. You’re celebrating a very special occasion on your Disney World vacation. The Chef’s Table may NOT be worth it to you if: You want to stretch your vacation dollars (and time) as much as possible. You aren’t the type of person that can easily justify spending hundreds on a single meal. You want to dine at Victoria & Albert’s but you’re seeking a more quiet, romantic environment. Nope, it’s not an easy choice. But we will say this: we haven’t heard from many who have experienced the Chef’s Table and didn’t enjoy themselves! It’s pretty common knowledge that Disney knows what they’re doing when it comes to tech. ©Disney Still, sometimes their inventions are pretty shocking (Don’t worry, we’ll explain that scary pic in a second.). From watching our every move while we’re in the parks to cranking out ride systems, Disney is ALWAYS innovating. Well, today we spotted one of the weirdest inventions we’ve EVER seen from Disney. Take a look — if you dare! We were checking up on the latest from Disney Research today when a pretty crazy new study caught our eye. The Machine Learning team has developed a new method of High-Resolution Neural Face Swapping for Visual Effects. Yep, you read that right. Disney can now give people different faces on video. ©Disney This process actually works similarly to some Snapchat filters or DeepFake videos you might see online. However, it is much more advanced. You’ll be surprised to see the swaps are almost indistinguishable from a real image! Watch the below video to get a glimpse of this tech in action. We’re not sure what this tech could be used for as there are a lot of possibilities. One option is as a way to feature actors who have passed away during their movies. We saw them do something similar with a CGI Princess Leia in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This tech could hypothetically be used to place Carrie Fisher’s face on a look-alike actress. ©Disney/Lucasfilm We’re not sure tech like this could ever have an application in the parks. Still, we wanted to show it to you because of just how WEIRD it is! We’re always on the lookout for the newest Disney innovations on DFB so keep an eye out for the latest! As you may know, our Disney Springs days are about to get a lot SWEETER! Disney Springs Earlier this month, we found out that Gideon’s Bakehouse would be getting its own location in Disney Springs. You know, THE Gideon’s Bakehouse? With the super-limited, super-tasty chocolate chip cookies? Well, now we know WHERE we’ll be able to find the new spot! Gideon’s Bakehouse shared the announcement of their new space this morning with some pictures from the newly constructed construction barriers. Gideon’s will be located in the corner space that most recently held the Rustic Cuff pop-up spot. We had a sneaking suspicion that this would be the place! ©Gideon’s Bakehouse This spot in The Landing is conveniently located just across from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar and Wine Bar George. What a way to cap off an evening of drinking Reggie’s Revenge or chowing down on some flaming cheese! Gideon’s we’re coming to you! ©Gideon’s Bakehouse You can bet that we’ll be keeping a close eye on progress at Gideon’s, so stay tuned to DFB for all the updates. House of Blues was rockin’ and rollin’ again in Disney Springs! House of Blues in Disney Springs House of Blues officially reopened June 3rd, so we trekked over to the West Side of Disney Springs to grab a bite! House of Blues is a table-service restaurant known for blasting tunes and serving Southern eats. We’d be remiss not to mention they also boast some pretty killer desserts…hellooo Toffee Bread Pudding! Toffee Bread Pudding from House of Blues While we’ve visited in the past with mixed feelings, we were pleasantly surprised this time around! Atmosphere Social distancing was in full effect with many tables closed off to allow for space between guests. Social Distancing at House of Blues These spacing guidelines carried over into the bathroom with some sinks unavailable for hand washing. A look at some of the social distancing in place at House of Blues. We also spotted some sanitation stations that were readily available for quick disinfecting. Sanitation Station at House of Blues Once we were nice and spaced out (and sanitized!) we were treated to some live music! House of Blues is known for hosting some great artists, and tonight was no different. Live music at House of Blues. Peep the face masks! It was great to hear live music again — even if we were all at a safe distance and wearing masks! But what’s really interesting about this is that Disney has not brought back from furlough any of their live singing acts besides Mariachi Cobre in Epcot. Not even the Dapper Dans are scheduled to return at park opening. So this may be one of the few places you’ll see live music in Disney world. Menu In an effort to keep things contact-free, we had access to a digital menu. The only thing we needed was our handy dandy phone and we were good to go! Digital Menu The layout of the menu was pretty easy to navigate. Food Menu at House of Blues The drinks are nicely categorized in another tab. Drinks at House of Blues Pricing was pretty standard for Disney Springs, with cocktails ranging from $12 to $15, and entrees mostly in the $20 range. Drink We ordered two drinks during our visit. The presentation on both were SUPER pretty with fresh fruit that added a nice dash of color. Cocktail Time at House of Blues The Rock Me Hurricane kinda lived up to the name. This drink was SUPER strong with Cruzan white and spiced rums AND Myers’s dark rum. The fresh orange and orange, lime, passion fruit, and pomegranate juices helped balance out the booze, but this drink is nothing to sneeze at strength-wise and a good size at $14. Rock Me Hurricane We also really had to try the Strawberry Fields cocktail. Made with Captain Morgan spiced rum and amaretto, it was incredibly strong. The fruity undertones did help to make it the sweeter of the two drinks with strawberry, passion fruit, mint, and lime to help balance out the liquor. Strawberry Fields Cocktail With summer right around the corner, this $12 cocktail had us longing for sunshine! Food This time around, we stuck to the apps. Excuse us while we drool remembering the BBQ Brisket Nachos… . BBQ Brisket Nachos at House of Blues The meat was sooo delicious, and the smokiness really came through. Nachos at House of Blues With BBQ Brisket, aged cheddar, red onion, roasted corn salsa, avocado, and a sprinkling of cotija cheese, we were super pleased with this dish. The pricing was reasonable for a decent plate of nachos. This dish was $15. Nachos at The House of Blues Next up we had the Loaded Mac & Cheese for $12. Just take a minute to look at this ooey, gooey goodness. Loaded Mac & Cheese Served in a hefty skillet, this cheesy pasta was topped with chicken tenders, Buffalo sauce, and blue cheese. Loaded Mac & Cheese This is a simple app — it’s basically standard mac topped with chicken strips. We usually love buffalo sauce so we could have used a bit more than the small squirt we got on top, but let us tell you they did NOT skimp out on the blue cheese crumble! Definitely a highlight for us! And if you’re a fan of blue cheese, this dish will make you ANYTHING but blue. Not into the taste of blue cheese or buffalo? Maybe consider a different app. Nosh or Not? Check out House of Blues if: You’re looking for live music! Whether you’re in the mood for some local musicians or headlining artists, House of Blues typically has it all. You like your drinks strong. If you’re someone who makes a funny face when you take a sip of potent cocktails, you might want to rethink ordering off this menu. You’re a fan of super cheesy mac & cheese! Seriously a highlight! House of Blues Avoid if: You like a quiet atmosphere. This place is usually hopping with tunes and crowds so if you’re looking for a more toned down dining experience you might want to try one of the other restaurants in Disney Springs. You want a stellar well-rounded meal. The entrees here are hit or miss but we really enjoyed our appetizers this time around. Overall While there are other restaurants in Disney Springs that we tend to gravitate towards, House of Blues is a nice spot to stop by, grab a drink, chow down on some apps, and groove out to some music. If the toffee bread pudding is on the menu when you’re here, it’s a definite must get as well. The Southern cuisine can sometimes leave us longing for more, but it’s a good time to hang out with friends and family while taking in some entertainment. House of Blues in Orlando While dining in the newly reopened restaurants might be a liiiitle different, it’s nice to revisit familiar places once again. Our stomachs have missed chowing down on tasty treats but we are quickly making up for lost time! Check out what it’s like eating in the newly reopened Disney Springs! This past week has been a foodie trip around the reopened Disney Vacation Club Resorts! Since several DVC Resorts reopened last Monday, we have been checking out some popular food spots like Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa to see what’s new and what’s the same old, same old! Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Today, we’re sharing our experience at Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! Are the waiters just as sassy as ever? Will we get ten bottles of ketchup!? Keep reading to find out! Atmosphere Currently, the two options for visiting a Disney World Resort hotel are 1) to be staying there as a guest or 2) to have a confirmed dining reservation at one of their resorts. Tip: we were actually informed by security at the parking lot entrance at Wilderness Lodge that we arrived a little TOO early for our reservation! So keep that in mind when you plan your meals, as you may not have as much time to “wander” around the resorts before your reservation as you may think! Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Like many of our other dining experiences this week, we used the new Mobile Dine Check-In to let Whispering Canyon know we had arrived for our reservation! Whispering Canyon Cafe In the main lobby of the restaurant, there are plexiglass “sneeze guards” at the host stand. The QR code to scan in for Mobile Dine Check-In is also located there. Whispering Canyon Cafe We received a text message letting us know our table was ready, and off we went! Mobile Dine Check-In The Mobile Dine Check-In has so far been a very smooth experience for us! Like the other dining locations we’ve visited, fewer tables are in use at this time. Whispering Canyon Cafe Signs are placed on the tables that are not being used, allowing for safe physical distancing between parties. Read more about Disney’s new Mobile Dine Check-In here! Eats Once we arrived at our table, we were presented with a QR code to scan to view a digital menu… Digital QR menu at Whispering Canyon Cafe …but paper menus are available upon request. We started our evening with some cornbread because when one eats at Whispering Canyon Cafe, one must eat ALL the cornbread! (Obviously, cornbread is the perfect vehicle for getting copious amounts of that whipped butter into our mouths!) To our disappointment, they had JUST run out of the regular cornbread but they DID have the allergy-friendly cornbread, which is both vegan and gluten-free. So, we gave it a shot! Allergy-friendly cornbread In the past we have found the allergy-friendly version of their cornbread to be moist and super yummy, but the one we were served today was definitely on the dry side and had an almost grainy texture. Don’t worry, it still holds plenty of butter though (that was really our end game here!). Allergy-friendly cornbread Another dish well known by Whispering Canyon Cafe aficionados are their “Burnt Ends” Nachos for $12.00! “Burnt Ends” Nachos Seriously, just press pause for a second and check out this incredibleness in action. They’re HUGE!! These nachos are, in a word, STUPENDOUS! The meat on the nachos is the perfect mixture of both crispy burnt AND soft textures! Speaking of the meat, we did find that there were a TON of toppings on our nachos, so we would probably request extra chips in the future! And for just $12.00, this “appetizer” could easily fill you up as a meal on its own! Burnt Ends Nachos toppings Our dinner was definitely off to a pretty good start if we do say so ourselves! Burnt Ends Nachos and Allergy-friendly cornbread at Whispering Canyon Cafe We also ordered the Cedar Plank Salmon for $26.00 as an entree. We found the salmon to be very tasty, even for those who aren’t salmon fans! The star of this dish, however, was the CHEESY Ancient Grains on the side! Cedar Plank Salmon It had a risotto-like texture, TONS of Parmesan flavor, and was SUPER creamy and yummy! It totally makes this dish worth ordering, especially if you already are a salmon lover! That salmon was good too but if we’re being honest? It was totally overshadowed by that bomb side! As for dessert…we had our hearts set on the Seasonal Cobbler, but we were told it was currently unavailable! The cobbler here is typically REALLY yummy, so we’ll keep an eye on when it makes an appearance. Read another recent review of Whispering Canyon Cafe here! One of the memorable features of Whispering Canyon Cafe is the zany and sassy service from the Cast Members! In the past, we’ve seen the servers do just about everything from pony races around the restaurant to gallon-sized mason jars of drinks! If you ask for a large drink, you may get WAY more than you bargained for! Unfortunately when we visited, we were told those weren’t available, so our drinks were brought out to us in a standard mason jar. Standard mason jars If you ask for a large drink and they don’t have the JUMBO jars, you may receive the extra serving of your beverage of choice right away to still have the “effect” of getting extra, but it certainly isn’t as fun as those gallon mason jars! We were also curious to see what happened when we asked for ketchup. (If you’ve been here before, you KNOW!) Alas… Sad ketchup from Whispering Canyon Cafe …we were given one sad little ramekin of ketchup! Our server did tell us that all those fun antics are not happening for now but when the parks reopen there may be some new, re-imagined ways for the servers to interact with the guests. For now, they were limited to some light heckling. Learn more about the restaurants that will reopen with the theme parks here! Nosh Or Not? Whispering Canyon Cafe is a great spot if… Your travel party is big into “family style” dining and are game to split those massive signature skillet dishes. Prepare to leave Whispering Canyon Cafe FULL. You’re staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and looking for a decent table service restaurant with good food. You LOVE meat. While there are also plant-based options available on their menu, Whispering Canyon Cafe is all about those high-protein skillets. You may want to consider skipping Whispering Canyon Cafe if… Your favorite part about dining there are those zany waiters! With those antics on the shelf for the time being, Whispering Canyon Cafe is currently really no different than any other restaurant on property. You aren’t in the Magic Kingdom area that particular day. Currently, you can only visit a resort hotel if you are staying there overnight or if you have a confirmed dining reservation. If you aren’t already in the Magic Kingdom resort area, it’s a pretty far trek, especially with the limited transportation currently available. You’re looking for a quiet, romantic vibe. Even with the stunted waiter interactions, Whispering Canyon Cafe still makes for a louder dining experience. If you’re at Wilderness Lodge and looking for a romantic dinner, check out Storybook Dining at Artist Point when it reopens! Overall Our experience at Whispering Canyon Cafe was a delight! This restaurant has been hit-or-miss for us in recent years, but we found the food to be exceptional this time around. While we understand the limited antics from the waiters at this time, it was still a highlight of meals here for us. But the tasty food and the promise of shenanigans returning one day down the road will keep up coming back! What’s your favorite dish to order at Whispering Canyon Cafe? Let us know in the comments! Hey all you party people, it’s time to book your Disney World theme park dining reservations! …Unless you’re not one of a special group of guests who had dining reservations canceled during a specific set of dates. Confused? Us too. So let’s dig deeper. Le Cellier in EPCOT Yesterday, Disney announced that theme park dining reservations for Disney World’s park opening dates and beyond would open this morning to “eligible guests with dining reservations cancelled during the closure.” Dining Reservations Announcement Now we were a little confused about this. And, tbh, we still are. This date applies to guests who had their dining reservations on or before September 2nd canceled as of May 28th. But did the dining reservations have to be canceled by Disney to count us eligible? What if WE canceled the dining reservations BEFORE May 28th…but it was still due to the closure? Does that still count? Am I Eligible To Make Dining Reservations Today? Well, your first clue as to whether you’re eligible is that you received an email yesterday SAYING you’re eligible. Reservation Email This is basically everyone who had a dining reservation, scheduled before September 2nd, that was wiped out by the mass cancellation of all Disney Dining Plans and dining reservations back on May 28th. But if you think you should be able to make reservations this morning based on Disney’s website language, you should definitely try. You can make reservations via the online system, or by phone. (We haven’t been able to book on the My Disney Experience app.) And we’ve heard from folks who didn’t think they were eligible being able to book. So…worth a try! If you aren’t eligible, you’ll receive this notification: Not Eligible. Womp womp. And remember, to dine in any theme park after Disney World reopens, guests must have valid park admission AND a Disney Park Pass reservation for the day of the desired meal. So What Happened This Morning? After all the crazy park pass reservation system glitches last week, we weren’t sure what to expect this morning! But things went pretty smoothly overall. FYI — the online system opened at 6AM ET, which is commensurate with pre-closure policy. After a few minutes waiting “in orbit” (<– that’s what we call the space mountain rocket ship picture that characterizes one of Disney’s virtual waiting rooms…with which we’re all too familiar after last week), we were able to make all of our top tier dining reservations, including Be Our Guest Restaurant, pretty easily. Entrance into Beast’s Castle UPDATE: As of 8:30AM ET the “waiting room” is taking a little bit longer to get through. Keep us updated in the comments with your experiences! Disney World website Virtual Waiting Room As a reminder, not all of the Disney World restaurants will be open with the parks initially. You can check in on our list of announced restaurants for the FULL LIST of those restaurants that WILL be open and available for reservations. Online reservations are currently available for Disney Springs restaurants, and guests with hotel arrivals prior to July 10th can make select Disney World hotel dining reservations by calling the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 824-1391. Keep an eye on DFB for the latest updates, and get ready to make those reservations! Click here to see the full list of restaurants that are opening with the theme parks! So Disney has said that they’re discontinuing special edition limited releases in the parks in order to limit crowding. And luckily I’m guessing they won’t have to worry about drawing too many folks with this new merch? Maleficent Float in Magic Kingdom We’ve spotted some really cool Disney mug designs lately, like a color-changing poisoned apple mug, and an adorable new Toy Story mug! But Disney’s mug capital has gone down in our eyes with this new release. They’ve ventured back into the meme realm (after debuting with pretty cute t-shirts a while back). But this time they’re missing the mark imo with the Disney Villains Meme Mugs available online. These are way too “on the nose” and stereotypical to be funny. It feels like a robot was shown examples of memes and then programmed to make their own “approximate” version that doesn’t quite compute! Plus they just make me…sad? Here we go. The Evil Queen Meme Mug features the villain after she’s discovered that her lunch has disappeared from the office fridge… ©shopDisney …and on the other side, she shows why nobody should mess with her…because she’ll poison her coworkers with apples? ©shopDisney (Do people steal entire lunches from office fridges? I thought that only happened in 80’s movies with lots of shoulder pads and skinny ties and Kevin Bacon.) Moving on to the Jafar Meme Mug… ©shopDisney …where the villain seems v. upset with all of his friends in the group text. ©shopDisney I dunno. Group texts are fun. And if they’re not, I don’t get…like…mad about it. Just turn off your notifications. So this seems a little over the top. Now, this Maleficent Meme Mug is classic Disney showing up late to the meme party. ©shopDisney Are we sure these mugs weren’t slated for release in 2018? (And, yes, I still use memes like this, but I’m old and totally uncool, so what does that tell you, hmm?) ©shopDisney And finally, for those of us who feel a little rough before our morning pick-me-up, there’s the Ursula Meme Mug! ©shopDisney Yeah…I’m not sure I’d be any happier with this “after coffee” look tbh. ©shopDisney So, if you want to be ironic, these could be the perfect purchase for you! And if you lurve them and you’re super upset with me for saying that these aren’t ideal, then you can buy them totally un-ironically! Everybody wins! The mugs are all available for $14.99 on shopDisney! Which of these meme mugs is your favorite? Let us know in the comments! Here’s some important info for guests with an upcoming reservation at Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort! Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom preparing to reopen on July 11th, followed by Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15th. But even though the parks are getting ready to welcome back guests, the Swan and Dolphin Resort will remain closed, and will relocate guests with existing reservations! One of the great benefits of staying at the Swan and Dolphin Resort is the close proximity to the Disney parks — especially Epcot and Hollywood Studios! But if you had plans to stay at this resort in the near future, you might be in for a shake-up. Earlier this month, a member of our team received an email with information regarding the restrictions being implemented both in the Disney parks and the hotel. The email asked guests to call or email the hotel to confirm their reservation. Email Asking Guests to Confirm their Upcoming Reservation Today, we received another email stating that the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort will be closed to the general public until July 29th, 2020. Email from Swan and Dolphin Resort As a substitute for the room at the Swan and Dolphin, we were offered reservations at the JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort and Spa at the same rate, dates, and room type. We were asked to call to confirm the reservation at the new location. The Swan and Dolphin Resort is currently accepting reservations for July 29th and beyond. Reservation Information from the Swan and Dolphin Website So, if you have an upcoming stay at the Swan and Dolphin resort, be sure to check your email regarding alternate arrangements! Many stores have adjusted the way they are distributing food and merchandise since Disney Springs re-opened a few months ago. This is due to the safety protocols that have been implemented for all of Disney property. This will allow guests to pick up their desired purchases quickly. Let’s walk you through the process! To make a purchase with Kipling, all you have to do is call ahead at (407) 560-0828. You’ll talk to a Sales Associate and they will set up an appointment to walk you through the store on a video call via Zoom. Or, you can send them a wish list via email and they will check what’s in stock. Aerophile in action! Then, you’ll venture to Disney Springs where you will meet the Sales Person at a designated area. The meeting place is up to you, but it’s probably best you meet outside of the store. Another good meeting place at the fountain in front of the Lime Parking Garage escalator. (That way you can get in and out quickly!) Cast Member Cleaning the Escalator Outside of Lime Garage Then you’ll pay the associate via debit or credit on their mobile device. You get in, you get out. Boom, you’re done! Disney Springs Small adjustments like this are decided by each store.
