  7. It was two years ago today when Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of our “Toy Story” pals welcomed us into Andy’s backyard for the grand opening of Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios here at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. To commemorate this toy-riffic occasion, we’re offering a very special ride on one of the land’s signature attractions, Slinky Dog Dash – a never-before-seen, 10-hour ride! Yes, you read that correctly … TEN HOURS! Just push play on the video below and let it draw you in to an oddly satisfying, soothing experience as good ol’ Slink continues to dash across your screen over and over again. This video is also a great way to get ready for the reopening of Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15, when Toy Story Land will once again invite you to become an “honorary toy” and play with Andy’s best buddies in a sprawling adventure. After you finish zooming around the land on Slinky Dog Dash, you can take a twirl on Alien Swirling Saucers, play classic carnival games in 4D inside Toy Story Mania!, or grab a bite at Woody’s Lunch Box. Until then, enjoy this special ride on Slinky Dog Dash and keep checking back with us here at the Disney Parks Blog for even more #DisneyMagicMoments. View the full article
  8. Ahoy, swashbuckling pirates and mermaids! Grab your beach towel and your flip flops! #DisneyCruiseLife at Home just dropped a mind-blowing cookie recipe to add to your summer to-do list. © Disney You’ll be singing sea chanties while you mix up these mouth-watering Mermaid Tail Cookies! No need to make your own crustacean *ahem* creation, we’ve got the recipe for you right here! Follow along with the recipe from Disney Family below and make a splash with these yummy treats! While you’re at it, don’t forget to try this Chocolate Soufflé recipe or these Guava Glazed Ribs recipe from Disney Cruise Line too! We think these recipes are perfect for going under the sea. © Disney Ingredients Batch of chilled sugar cookie dough (homemade or store-bought) Flour Rolling pin Wax paper Baking sheet Cooling rack Kitchen knife White cookie icing Candy necklaces or other small candies Colored sugar (optional) Food decorator pens (optional) Helpful Tip If the store-bought brand of dough you use is too soft to hold the cookie shapes during baking, you can knead in a little extra flour to stiffen it before rolling it out. Directions Print the template from the Disney Family website and cut it out. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness, then use the template and a knife to cut out mermaid tail cookies. Bake the cookies according to the recipe directions and let them cool. Working with one cookie at a time, spread cookie icing on the tail fin. Then spread more icing on a 2-inch section of the tail just above the fin and gently press candies into it, arranging them close together to resemble scales. Continue frosting and decorating the rest of the tail a section at a time until you reach the top. Or, you can simply sprinkle colored sugar on the icing in place of the candy. Set the cookies aside until the icing hardens. Then use food decorator pens to embellish the tail fins with colorful lines, if you like. © Disney There you have it! We think these cookies are fit for a Mermaid Princess! Plus, they are the perfect substitution for all the Mermaid Cupcakes that we miss so much. These cookies should tie us over until we make it back to Magic Kingdom! Want more amazing Disney recipes? Head here for the full list of the BEST Disney recipes out there! 11. While we’ll have to wait a few more weeks for the Haunted Mansion to reopen at Magic Kingdom, we had an unusual encounter today that reminded us of the spooky attraction! Ghost Arcade We’re crossing over to the Other Side to see where all the ghouls and boys like to play at…The Ghost Arcade! Even though Disney’s Beach Club Resort’s DVC rooms are available for guests, the property isn’t quite fully-functional just yet. Its neighboring hotel, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, is also still closed off for now. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort But after enjoying some lunch at Beaches and Cream, we decided to check out some other spots at the property (at least, the bits and pieces where we were allowed to visit!) That’s when we noticed the arcade was open, but… Ghost Arcade …NOBODY’S AROUND! In fact, despite the arcade being unlocked and open for guests to roam, none of the machines are turned ON! Ghost Arcade Is your spine-tingling yet? Just like the Haunted Mansion, we don’t want you to be TOO AFRAID! And while we probably haven’t made you scream in terror quite yet, we just wanted to share this other-worldly experience with you! Ghost Arcade Maybe they just forgot to fire up the games today?! Either way, we wish somebody or someTHING would materialize in here so we wouldn’t feel so alone! Lol, we realize this isn’t the most earthshaking news to see a haunted abandoned, powered off, yet STILL accessible arcade but it was so strange to us we just had to share it with you! Ghost Arcade Who knows — maybe this is what the 999 Happy Haunts have been up to with all of their free time! We could see Master Gracey workin’ on his free throw skills, just so long as he doesn’t mistake Madame Leota for a basketball! Ghost Arcade After all, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is expected to take in the NBA’s Blazers, Kings, Pelicans, Spurs, Suns, and Wizards soon, so we don’t blame the Haunted Mansion specters for wanting to brush up their b-ball moves! Click here to find out when Jellyrolls will be reopening this year! Have you visited any of the Disney World resorts since last week? 13. Earlier today, we reported New Jersey added several states to its travel advisory which now includes California. Universal Studios Now its neighboring state, New York, has also put travelers under a new advisement. Upon returning from any states that have experienced a large spike in cases recently, residents or visitors will need to self-quarantine for two weeks — including California as well. So far, California officials have been unable to discuss moving forward with Disneyland’s proposed reopening. While Downtown Disney is still set to reopen on July 9th, the reopenings of Anaheim’s Disneyland theme parks and hotels have been delayed. According to Disney, “The State of California has indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4th.” Disney California Adventure Main Entrance – Closed due to Coronavirus And just today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has imposed a new 14-day quarantine order on all travelers from California as well as seven additional states. “Eight more states have reached the level of spread required to qualify for New York’s travel advisory, meaning we will now require individuals traveling to New York from those states to quarantine for 14 days,” Cuomo stated. Soarin’ Over California The metrics to determine which states are being added to the travel advisory include the same criteria that were issued last week when Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah were put on the list. In addition to California, travelers entering New York from Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and Tennessee are also being asked to quarantine. We’ll continue to monitor this situation closely and report back with more findings. Click here for all the latest news regarding travel to Disney World and Disneyland! 17. Select third-party restaurants and stores began to reopen in Disney Springs on May 20th. Disney Springs However, Paddlefish and Terralina Crafted Italian welcomed guests back on Friday, May 29th, a few days after World of Disney and several Disney-owned properties resumed. But even though more and more businesses have reopened, crowds have remained relatively light at Disney World’s shopping and entertainment district. Now, both Disney Springs restaurants have been forced to make the difficult decision to lay off some of their employees. Disney Springs Paddlefish and Terralina Crafted Italian are run by the same company, Levy Restaurants, and they’ve submitted a notice to the state of Florida that they’ll be laying off 87 workers at its Paddlefish dining location and an additional 56 staff members at Terralina Crafted Italian, effective August 1st, 2o20. Levy Restaurant’s WARN Act Notice In addition to the layoffs, Levy’s Restaurants has also stated employees who will be keeping their jobs at Paddlefish and Terralina Crafted Italian may see their hours reduced if business doesn’t pick up. 21. When we think of a wonderful thought, we often reminisce over our favorite Disney World snacks — especially the cute ones themed after characters! Peter Pan’s Flight We’ve noticed several menu changes over the last few weeks as many theme park restaurants are getting ready to reopen, and now we’ve just learned two of our favorite treats AREN’T showing up on menus anymore! It looks like our beloved Peter Pan Float was just crossed off the menu at Storybook Treats. This refreshing Sprite and Lime-Dole Whip Soft-Serve treat flew into Magic Kingdom way back in 2018 and we’re more than a little bummed to see it go out the window! Peter Pan Float But ALAS, it looks like this wonderful snack has gone the way of the Hei Hei Cone — another favorite treat of ours we saw get the ax a while back (although it’s magically re-appeared on a Disney Parks Food MagicBand, so maybe it will be back someday?!) Peter Pan Float Keep in mind this could just be website maintenance and the treat COULD possibly still be around once Magic Kingdom reopens its doors! (We’ll be scoping this out when we’re back in!) Read more about the Peter Pan Float here! And sadly, the same fate has befallen the I Lava You Float at Sunshine Tree Terrace. Two of our favorite Dole Whip floats taken away in the SAME DAY?! Our achy, breaky HEARTS! I Lava You Float If it’s not too painful for you to recall, the I Lava You Float was made with Strawberry Fanta Soda, Orange Dole Whip, strawberry, and red passion fruit syrup which came topped with strawberry popping candy! I Lava You Float But it looks like Sunshine Tree Terrace could possibly have just removed Orange Dole Whip from its soft serve machines entirely. Their FOMOsa, which is also made with Orange soft serve, has been taken away too! NO MO’ FOMOsa! Again, we won’t know for sure until we’re standing in Adventureland again in a few weeks if this is for REAL REAL gone. Click here to read more about the I Lava You Float! So that’s TWO missing floats and a FOMOsa that’s disappeared SO FAR! To see all the latest menu changes at Disney World, click here, and we’ll let you know if any more of our favorite snacks vanish without a trace! 22. We’ve all daydreamed about being best buds with a Disney celebrity (um, how cool would it be to be able to chill out and have a glass of wine with Kristen Bell??). FYI — This is NOT Kristen Bell Even though you might not be able to hang out with them IRL, you can still get a chance to have a celebrity make a video special to you! Cameo is a platform for people to reach out and get noticed by different celebrities around the world, including Disney stars! After you pay the fee (it ain’t free to be famous, folks!), the celebrity of your choice will make a video for you to celebrate an occasion, give a pep talk or life advice, and just have a friendly conversation in general. We’ve got an entire line-up of Disney stars on Cameo you’ll want to request ASAP. Drew Seeley If you’re a High School Musical fan, Drew Seeley might sound like a familiar name! While Zac Efron sang for Troy later on in the series, Drew Seeley was actually the singing voice behind Troy Bolton in the first film (this shook us to our core when we found out as kids). Seeley even went on to tour with the cast to sing the hit songs from the movies during High School Musical: The Concert. ©Disney Later on, though, Drew left behind his days at East High to become a Disney Prince! During The Little Mermaid on Broadway‘s run, he played Prince Eric at one point (so he’s basically the ultimate heartthrob). Seeley will make videos for $50 after you request what you’d like to hear AND he’ll sing songs for you with that amazing voice of his. Binge-watch these summer watchlists on Disney+! Bart Johnson Get’cha head in the game!! Wildcats, Coach Bolton is making Cameos for you, whether it’s basketball season or not. Bart Johnson is honestly a High School Musical super fan, even after being one of the stars. He will give Cameos in character as Coach Bolton (complete with plenty of “Go, Wildcats!!” pep talks). ©Disney He is ridiculously funny and dramatic! Buuut, he also does do Cameos just as himself as well for $50 (and we think he’s just as great as Bart). Take a look at the awesome line-up of stars we saw for the first Disney Family Sing-Along on Disney+ here! Kimberly J. Brown If you were a big fan of Halloweentown back in the day, you’ll recognize Kimberly J. Brown as the actress who played the main character, Marnie! ©Kimberly J. Brown When you purchase a Cameo for $75, she’ll tell you stories and anecdotes that most people don’t know about her time on set for different Disney Channel movies (like how her brother played one of the infants in Quints). And, she’ll even chant some birthday spells with you to bring some extra magic to your day all the way from Halloweentown! These are the coolest Disney rides that were never made! Phill Lewis All you Suite Life of Zach and Cody fans out there will be SUPER happy with this next Cameo! Mr. Moseby has left his job at the Tipton to be a Cameo star, and we love Phill Lewis for it! ©Disney You can ask him to tell you about his time on set with the Sprouse twins, what his favorite memory was from filming, or maybe some driving lesson tips (like how to use the PRNDL) for $75. Go on a trip down memory lane with these Disney+ throwback shows and movies! Susan Egan Have you ever wanted to talk to a real-life Disney Princess? We’re not talking about the face characters in the parks! Susan Egan who voiced Meg in Hercules and starred as the original Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway creates magical Cameos for $85. ©Susan Egan Susan will come up with songs for the people who buy her Cameos based on the Disney music from her characters’ films (so she will literally serenade you ). Take a look inside the Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along in Epcot here! Patti Murin But, the entertainment from Disney Princesses doesn’t stop there! Patti Murin played the original Anna in Frozen on Broadway (which sounds like the coolest job ever ). ©Playbill You could ask her about her experience on Broadway, her time spent as one of the most well-beloved princesses, or even ask her to sing a bit of a song for you! Plus, it would be a sweet gift for all your little princesses and princes to enjoy for $40. Read all about Frozen on Broadway’s official closure here! Jim Cummings It’s hard to say everything that Jim Cummings has done for Disney, since he has voiced SO MANY characters throughout the parks, movies, and more! Jim has brought characters like Winnie the Pooh and Tigger to life as well as taking travelers on galactic adventures as the voice behind the Hondo Ohnaka animatronic at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Or OUR favorite — the narrator of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth!! ©Disney He will make videos for you in the voices of his characters, using toys in the videos like Pooh and Tigger stuffed animals. They’ll have conversations back and forth about anniversaries, birthdays, and other special events for $175 per Cameo. Are you even a Disney fan if you haven’t watched these Disney shows?? Billy Dee Williams So many of us grew up with the Skywalkers, Han Solo, and Chewbacca as they worked together to take down the Empire in one of the most iconic series in the history of films. And, you can get a Cameo from one of the original Star Wars cast members (which sounds like the ultimate balance in the Force to us). ©Disney It’s such a rare thing to be able to have a big name celebrity like Billy Dee Williams (LANDO!!!) notice you, let alone tell you stories about his career, journey as a Star Wars smuggler, and more for $300. Although it may be pricey, it’s a memory that will last a lifetime for the biggest Star Wars fans out there. Take a look at everything that’s happened in Galaxy’s Edge over the past year!
