Ghosts, goblins, and foodies alike, it’s time to dust off the cobwebs because Halloween at Walt Disney World is upon us! Starting August 11, fang-tastic treats will appear at Disney Springs. The chefs have conjured up delicious treats of their own. From new items like Candle Petit Cake at Amorette’s Patisserie or the Pumpkin Spice S’more at The Ganachery to a few returning favorites, there are plenty of treats to enjoy all season long. Disney Springs is bringing back the Halloween Overlay at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar opening on August 11. This will include new Halloween-inspired menu items like the Candelabra Eggs and Midnight Mayhem Popcorn Chicken as well as boo-tiful décor. Getting stuck on a theme park ride is some people’s dream and some people’s nightmare. For us, it depends on the ride; we dream about being evacuated from the PeopleMover, but Incredicoaster is a hard pass for us. ©Wonderland Amusement Park According to People, 18 guests were rescued from a roller coaster mid-air at Wonderland Amusement Park in Amarillo, Texas, on August 1st. The park is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary when Texas Tornado stopped with 18 riders on board. ©Wonderland Amusement Park The riders were evacuated with assistance from the Amarillo Fire Department, which brought three engines and a ladder truck to the site. They used an aerial ladder to remove the riders from the coaster. No injuries were reported, but Amarillo Medical Services evaluated one person. It remains unclear if that person was transported to a local hospital. ©Wonderland Amusement Park The Texas Tornado has been closed since, and the park is investigating the cause of the malfunction to complete any repairs needed. We’ve got exciting news out of Disney World, especially if you’ve been as excited to stay at the newest hotel, Lakeshore Lodge, as we’ve been! ©Disney This new hotel is expected to open in the summer of 2027, though no official opening date has been announced yet. It’ll be a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) hotel closest to Magic Kingdom, and will “celebrate the beauty and magic of nature as seen through the eyes of Disney artists and storytellers.” We’ve been anxiously awaiting more news about the hotel, and now we’ve got NEW concept art to get excited about! Some of the new concept art shows a new lounge space that will be available for guests at the hotel, as well as what the lobby will look like. From the new photos released, it looks like the lobby will be incredibly open, with floor-to-ceiling windows that will showcase sweeping views of The Wetlands outdoor recreation area, allowing the “local flora and fauna to flow seamlessly into the architecture, artwork, and ambiance.” The lobby takes inspiration from the music and storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas, as seen with the shimmering fiberoptic river that will illuminate the floor, as well as a blown glass Colors of the Wind sculpture with hundreds of suspended glass leaves above. ©Disney Disney also gave us a look at a new lounge coming to the hotel, which will be called Dandelion Terrace. This will feature a two-story gallery of archival artwork from Disney classics like Fantasia, complete with whimsical dandelion light fixtures that will provide soft lighting throughout the space. The sweeping views create the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy the Magic Kingdom fireworks from afar. ©Disney That’s not all, though! New restaurants are coming to Disney World! ©Disney Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is getting closer and closer to opening, meaning we’re getting new details about the hotel! From that amazing pool to inside the hotel rooms, there are lots of things to be excited about with this new hotel. One thing we can’t wait for? The NEW restaurants coming to the hotel, which is set to open in summer 2027. That’s right! Disney has FINALLY confirmed what we’ve been waiting for. NEW dining spots are coming to Lakeshore Lodge, the new Magic Kingdom area resort hotel. What are we chowing down on, you ask? Starting off strong, we have Moonglade, a table-service restaurant. ©Disney There will be “thoughtfully prepared dishes featuring seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.” There will also be gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that will frame the gracefully arching cypress trees along Bay Lake where “artful lighting and nuanced design reflect the interplay of light and shadow.” ©Disney Say hello to Bay Lake Provisions! This will be an all-day, quick service marketplace with specialty coffees and fresh fare in an open-kitchen atmosphere. Be sure to keep an eye out for woodland critters inspired by beloved Disney classics. ©Disney Disney also announced Paint Out Point Bar & Grill, which will be near Lakeshore Lagoon. You can grab shareable bites and specialty beverages while soaking in the natural beauty that surrounds The Wetlands. It’s inspired by the art of plein-air painting and will feature original artwork created by Imagineers who were inspired by Bay Lake landscapes. ©Disney Dandelion Terrace will also be joining the lineup, although not a restaurant, with stunning views of the Magic Kingdom fireworks across Bay Lake. The lounge will be home to a two-story gallery of archival artwork from classics like Fantasia, with dandelion light fixtures that add a touch of magic. The soft lighting and sweeping views create the perfect setting to slow down and enjoy the nighttime spectacular. It seems like the perfect place to hang out and create a magical moment. ©Disney These new dining spots will be in addition to the 967 rooms coming to the resort, ranging from studio options to spacious suites. The entire resort is inspired by nature and animation from Walt Disney Animation. The rooms will feature views of Bay Lake and Magic Kingdom fireworks, and that pool is sure to be seriously popular! ©Disney In addition to those (hopefully) delicious dining spots, guests can check out The Wetlands. At the Wetlands, you can find the Daydream River, which will be a lazy river that runs throughout the pool area. ©Disney You can also explore Lakeshore Lagoon, which will be a zero-entry pool in the heart of The Wetlands. It will also feature a spiral waterslide, which we know will see long lines thanks to the kids. One section of The Wetlands will be dedicated to those same kids! It will be a place where they can “become part of nature’s story through whimsical wet and dry play areas inspired by the music and storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas.” The play area is specifically inspired by the lyrics, “the heron and the otter are my friends,” from the film’s song, Colors of the Wind. Let us just say, these creatures look amazing! Heron Shores will focus on exploration and hands-on play with climbing features. Otter Springs will feature interactive water features. ©Disney This resort has been in the works for YEARS after initially being announced as Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge Resort back in 2019. That hotel was originally supposed to open in 2022 before it was quietly canceled and then re-announced as Lakeshore Lodge. There’s been a new change at EPCOT, and we kind of love it! EPCOT We have seen a lot of changes at Disney World this year, from big projects like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets to small projects like new trash cans popping up. In fact, we think that even the small changes, like the new trash cans, are a small upgrade to your Disney day. Why do we bring that up? Because new ones have shown up at EPCOT’s World Showcase! Now, before you ask why something like new trash cans would be an improvement to our Disney day, think about the ones we’re used to. The trash cans at Disney World have swinging doors that collect all sorts of food, beverages, and gross things when people toss their trash and dirty plates in them. On top of that, the open garbage can does not smell the best. Old garbage cans Ok, but we’re just using the garbage cans for garbage, right? We can simply just use them and walk past them? Well, we actually use the garbage cans for more than just trash disposals. In fact, a lot of regular Disney goers do. When you can’t find a table to eat at, it’s very common that we find the nearest garbage can to place our tray of food on and eat. Trash can table! This trend is most popular at EPCOT because of the festivals. You’re grabbing food and drinks all around the World Showcase, and it’s almost impossible to find a table. So, as much as the garbage cans have been there for us, you can imagine it’s not the nicest dining experience. Trash can = table at Food and Wine! Seriously though, dining on trash cans has become a true staple of an EPCOT experience. So, since those classic trash cans have been changing, it’s completely changed our makeshift dining experience. New trash cans! We’ve been seeing new ones pop up all around World Showcase, and now our favorite ones have arrived. They’re in a popular spot, and they have a unique design compared to others that we’ve seen. Introducing the American Pavilion trash cans! New trash cans at the American Pavilion! These trash cans at the American Adventure Pavilion are being added to the collection of these new solar trash cans popping up around EPCOT. Instead of using your hands to push in a swinging door, you can step on the push-down bar, and it will open the trash can so you can easily throw your things away. It’s really helped not create a bigger mess with the swinging door. We love these! The trash cans have solar panels on top of them to collect lots of energy throughout the day! These upgrades have come to both the trash cans and the recycling bins around the park. The slightly curved top does make it seem like it’ll be hard to dine on top of easily, but we’ll figure it out. We like that the new trash cans still feature the symbol of where they’re located. New trash cans at Animal Kingdom These changes are coming at the perfect time as the 2026 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival officially starts on August 27th! Disney World’s After Hours Events are separately ticketed events that allow guests to enjoy beloved attractions with lower wait times for an extra three hours after the park closes to the public, with some complimentary snacks and drinks included. Plus, guests can enter the park at 7 PM, giving them a few extra hours in the park before the event even begins! EPCOT After Hours If that all sounds like your ideal day at a Disney park in 2026, you’ll need to act FAST, as dates for the year are running out! Currently, only EPCOT and Hollywood Studios have After Hours Events scheduled for the rest of 2026 as far as the resort’s primary theme parks go, as the Magic Kingdom’s final offering of the year took place in late July. After Hours Snacks EPCOT’s remaining 2026 After Hours Events are scheduled for August 6th and 13th, and September 16th and 24th. Guests with After Hours Event tickets can enter the park at 7 PM, and the event lasts from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM. Event tickets cost $155 to $189 per ticket, plus tax, depending on the date. Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members can save $30 per ticket. Plus, there are included snacks, a DJ dance party, and Disney characters! H2O Glow After Hours Remaining H20 Glow nights for 2026 include August 9th, 22nd, and 29th, and September 5th. The event runs from 8 PM to 11 PM each night. Event tickets are $85 to $89 per ticket, plus tax, depending on the date, and $20 cheaper for children ages 3 to 9. Menu changes at Disneyland Resort happen pretty frequently, just like they do over at Disney World. We do our best to keep an eye on them all, since we know what a jarring (and sometimes heartbreaking) moment it can be when you find that one of your favorite menu items is no longer available. Three-Cheese Monte Cristo and Pommes Frites from Disneyland’s Cafe Orleans We just got word from a reader that one of our favorite vegetarian menu items in all of Disneyland, located at Cafe Orleans, is no longer available. Unfortunately, when we went to go check for ourselves, we confirmed it’s true — if you were hoping to snag this popular menu item on your next trip, you’ll be out of luck. The Battered & Fried Triple Cheese Monte Cristo Sandwich has been on both the lunch and dinner menus for years now and has been a fan-favorite, especially for vegetarians. It was $26 and made of Brie, Swiss and Mozzarella with Seasonal Preserves and a choice of Pommes Frites or Petite Caesar Salad. Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed by both our reader, Cameron (thank you for letting us know!) and a Cast Member in the park, that this item is no longer on the menu. Three-Cheese Monte Cristo at Disneyland’s Cafe New Orleans Don’t be fooled if you happen to take a look at the menu on the Disneyland website — while that menu hasn’t yet been updated and still shows it as available, the Disneyland app and menu inside the restaurant don’t have the option, and those are both correct. We expect the Disneyland website to be updated very soon, but just know that there is a difference at the time of writing. Three-Cheese Monte Cristo Close Up This was a delicious option that we ourselves will really miss, and we know a lot of those who eat a vegetarian diet will miss it as well. In fact, Cameron let us know that both of her sons were really looking forward to trying the sandwich, as they’re both vegetarians, and were disappointed when told it was no longer available. Now, it is possible to ask for the regular Battered & Fried Monte Cristo Sandwich on the menu without meat, but it’s not the same, and we recognize that. There has been a TON of Marvel talk as of late! Spider-Man: Brand New Day just released in theatres, having the second biggest opening weekend of ALL TIME, and fans are getting ready for Avengers: Doomsday to release at the end of the year. On top of that, Marvel announced two NEW projects that are on the horizon at San Diego Comic Con. ©Marvel However, there’s one other project that has been talked about a lot amongst fans as of late, and it’s a project that we won’t be seeing. Seven years ago, in July of 2019, Marvel announced that a Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali would be coming. That movie has been completely scrapped, and fans AND Mahershala Ali have responded! Recently, the president of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, expressed his disappointment over the failed Blade reboot that was supposed to star Mahershala Ali. He claimed that he felt like “a gigantic loser and failure” that the movie never got off the ground with Mahershala. ©Deadline Marvel announced the Blade reboot in July 2019, and it was said that Bassam Tariq was going to direct the project. He then exited in September 2022, roughly two months before it was set to begin shooting. “Several screenwriters came and went during development, from Watchmen scribe Stacy Osei-Kuffour to Michael Starrbury. Yann Demange stepped in as the movie’s director after Tariq’s exit, but Demange ended up dropping out in June 2024,” according to Variety. ©Variety Mahershala Ali ended up calling Marvel out, saying, “I’ve been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that what is for you is for you and what is not is not. For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on. Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. So we’re not doing the movie.” ©Variety The quote was posted by Variety via Instagram, and fans weren’t happy as well. @ruffdraft commented, “This is such a loss — Marvel had a great opportunity with a generational talent and a storyline that proved itself long before Marvel had a successful movie pipeline.” ©Andscape Other people recognize that the movie may have been bound for failure based on the lack of commitment. @doumbot said, “He dodged a bullet. It’s pretty clear that whatever scripts they had were terrible or they would have made the movie.” ©Marvel This isn’t the only Marvel cancellation that has been announced this year. In fact, just a few days ago it was announced that Wonder Man is no longer in the works, despite the success of season 1. Wonder Man premiered on Disney+ and quickly became a Marvel TV hit. The first season gained a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Disney eventually announced a second season for the series before changing their mind that a season 2 of Wonder Man is no longer on the table. ©Disney With all the big stuff happening with Marvel, specifically with Spider-Man and Avengers: Doomsday, maybe there wasn’t a better time to announce cancellations. It stinks to not get a Blade movie, and who knows if we ever will. Maybe a Blade movie comes out in the future when the MCU resets. Although Marvel has been struggling a bit with some of its most recent films, including ones that never got made, it was pretty much a no-brainer that its next Spider-Man movie would probably do well at the box office, as the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man moves have always been a hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Sony. ©Sony However, Marvel and Sony might not have been able to predict just how well Spider-Man: Brand New Day would do last week when it opened in theaters. Well, according to Variety, that film has crushed box office records for its opening day and opening weekend. Spider-Man: Brand New Day brought in a whopping $168 million in North America on Friday, its opening day, which is the biggest opening day ever for a domestic movie release. The previous record also belonged to Marvel for Avengers: Endgame, which earned $157 million on its first day in theaters. By the end of the weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day grossed $360 million at the box office, which marks the biggest weekend movie opening of all time. ©Sony Historically, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame are the only two movies to ever make over $300 million in one weekend. Both of those films earned about $100 million more than other top grossers, including Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Globally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has racked in $932 million, meaning that it’s certainly in big potatoes territory (if you know, you know). ©Sony Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up after everyone has forgotten Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Peter is struggling to be Spider-Man alone, for fear of endangering the people he loves, while dealing with some changes that are messing with his superpowers. The film features some great cameos by other Marvel characters, a lot of great surprises, as well as all the action Spider-Man fans love, and in my opinion, does not disappoint (and maybe even warrants a second or third viewing). If you’ve visited Disney World recently, then you know there is a lot of construction happening all around. EPCOT There are currently several big construction projects happening over in Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom as Disney brings all-new lands to life. However, we noticed some construction recently over in EPCOT as well. On our last visit to EPCOT, we were walking around World Showcase when we noticed some construction happening in the Germany Pavilion. Germany We saw that the roof of Das Kaufhaus is under construction for what appears to be a significant renovation. The iconic red shingles that cover the roofs around the pavilion have been completely removed, and in their place is a brown scrim. Germany Roof Construction This change, so far, is very subtle, and the scrim blends into the color scheme of the rest of the roofs in the pavilion enough that it does not impede the aesthetic of the pavilion too severely. As well, the shingles around the pavilion do appear to be older, so this refurbishment makes sense, and the other shingles around the pavilion could be replaced in the future as well. Roof Construction This is not the only construction currently happening in the Germany Pavilion; the bathrooms are also closed for refurbishment and behind a construction wall. We are glad to see Disney taking the time to spruce up one of our favorite Pavilions and ensuring that everything looks beautiful and works well. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is officially less than a week away! That means it’s almost time for delicious treats, spooky entertainment, and haunted decorations to fill Magic Kingdom. We love a Disney food trend, and we’re thrilled to see this one taking over Disney World! Churro waffle! Churro Mickey waffles — that iconic combination of a Mickey-shaped waffle rolled in cinnamon-sugar to taste just like a churro — used to be a Disney Cruise Line exclusive. If you wanted them on land, you had exactly one option in all of Disney World. Now? There are three. Let’s talk about it. You can find them at Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom, at Spyglass Grill at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and now at Rix Sports Bar & Grill at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Three spots, three totally different vibes, and three totally different price points. This is the kind of expansion that makes us wonder if Disney has finally realized just how much we’ve all been begging for wider access to this treat. Photo Crystal Palace We visited Crystal Palace in the morning, which tends to be the restaurant’s busiest window for breakfast — and the churro waffles were the very first thing we tried. We loved them. Genuinely, they’re worth the visit on their own, since for a long time this was the only place in all of Disney World to find them. Mickey Churro Waffles They taste exactly like a churro, cinnamon-sugar coating and all, just shaped like Mickey instead of the usual straight stick. They’re delicious plain, but a drizzle of syrup takes them even further. In our opinion, they’re the clear highlight of the meal here — the kind of dish that appeals to literally everyone at the table, kids and adults alike. The catch, of course, is that Crystal Palace is a full sit-down character dining experience. That typically means booking an advance reservation and paying around $54 per adult — not exactly a quick, budget-friendly stop if all you want is a waffle. Hello Beautiful Spyglass Grill This is where things get exciting for anyone who doesn’t want to plan an entire reservation-and-park-ticket outing around a waffle. Spyglass Grill, the quick-service window at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, recently added Mickey-shaped churro waffles to its breakfast menu for $11.49, and you don’t need a park ticket or a dining reservation to get them. Spyglass Grill We ordered a plate and were seriously impressed with the portion: three Mickey-shaped churro waffles plus bacon and sausage on the side. They smelled incredible before we even took a bite, and the flavor didn’t disappoint — the outside has that same crackly, sugary-cinnamon coating we remembered from the cruise ships, while the inside stays warm, soft, and fluffy. Honestly, you barely need syrup because the waffles bring plenty of sweetness on their own. The bacon and sausage rounded things out nicely, giving the plate some savory balance against all that sugar. For the price and the convenience, this might be the sleeper hit of the bunch — a genuine hidden gem at a resort quick-service spot that doesn’t always get much attention. Read Our Review of Spyglass Grill Here! BEAUTIFUL Rix Sports Bar and Grill And then there’s Rix, which took the biggest swing of the three. The new menu item is called Chicken and Mickey Waffles, priced at $20, and it’s described as churro Mickey waffles topped with crispy chicken tenders tossed in a Nashville rub and hot honey maple, finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. Our plate! The plate itself is generous — you actually get both a Mickey waffle and a Minnie waffle, and flavor-wise they’re identical to the churro waffles at the other two locations: crisp and sugary on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, with that unmistakable cinnamon-churro taste. The twist here is the chicken. The Nashville hot sauce coats the tenders and drips onto the plate, so nearly every bite gets a little kick even when you’re mostly tasting waffle. The waffles It’s a genuinely great sweet-and-spicy combination — the chicken itself is crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and the heat builds gradually as you eat rather than hitting all at once. We’d call it a pleasant burn, medium at most; spice-averse guests might want to proceed with caution, but we wouldn’t classify this as truly “hot.” Our favorite bites by far were the sweet waffle pieces dragged through that spicy sauce.
