Okay, BoardWalk fans, we need to talk. After almost 30 years, the Jellyrolls piano bar closed in the spring of 2025, and ever since, the BoardWalk has had a Jellyrolls-shaped hole in its heart (and its nightlife). Well, that hole has finally been filled (sort of)! Hurly-Burly is officially open in the former Jellyrolls space, and while we’re thrilled, we have to say we’re a little confused. Hurly-Burly So what IS Hurly-Burly? Picture a historic seaside theater that was once home to the BoardWalk’s most celebrated vaudeville performers, complete with a glowing marquee and a teal exterior that’s impossible to miss on the promenade. But we just have one question for our buddy, CEO Josh D’Amaro: who is Hurly-Burly actually for?! So, here’s the thing. Jellyrolls had a very specific crowd when it was open on the BoardWalk. We’re talking dudes in suits who just wanted to unwind with a drink after being at a convention all day (disinterested, drunk, rich dudes), Cast Members on free Cast Member night (exhausted turkey leg salespeople), and weirdos like AJ who sat in the back trying to edit photos on their computers (okay, maybe she was literally the only one doing that, but the point still stands). Welcome to the Hurly-Burly Theatre And while we love a random, 1930s-inspired trivia den/21 and over cabaret, since Disney has become more and more strict about parking at the resorts without a reservation, and there are no reservations at Hurly-Burly, we’re wondering who is actually going to go there. Disney did just close Atlantic Dance Hall (RIP) to the public, so maybe the people who frequented that spot will migrate on over, and while those two guys are probably cool, it’s not like the Dance Hall had a line out the door every night. Or any night, for that matter. One of the live acts at Hurly-Burly Listen, we’re thrilled that the BoardWalk finally has more nightlife, and since Hurly-Burly will be open until 1 AM, it certainly qualifies; we’re just wondering who will actually show up to frequent this spot. Considering that Disney transportation only runs for an hour and a half after the parks close, it’s not like people will be able to leave their cars at the parks and hop on a bus after Hurly-Burly closes to head back to their cars. Overture in Orange Interestingly enough, we were able to park at the BoardWalk on Hurly-Burly’s opening day even though we didn’t have a hotel or dining reservation, so it’s possible that Disney will be more lax with people who want to visit this spot. That’s not a guarantee, though, so if you’re looking at visiting Hurly-Burly, your best bet is to use Disney transportation — as long as you plan to make it back to your car or hotel before the buses or Skyliner are done running for the night. Of course, Disney isn’t going to let you get stranded, and Cast Members will do everything in their power to make sure you get back “home” — or at least to your car. Antipasto Still, though, we’re left wondering what sort of crowds Hurly-Burly will draw, and we can’t wait to find out! We’ll be on the lookout for even more updates you need to know about from Disney World and beyond. When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Turf Club Bar & Grill We recently stopped by the newly reopened Turf Club Bar & Grill to see if anything had changed after the refurbishment, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. In the past, we’ve ranked this spot pretty low on our list of Disney World hotel restaurants, but has that changed? Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here! Atmosphere The Turf Club Bar and Grill is inspired by turn-of-the-century Upstate New York and racing culture. This is super prominent in the newly refurbished restaurant, which features a new raised ceiling with wooden beams and vintage light fixtures, along with new ceiling light panels and refreshed carpeting as well. The new ceiling and lights! The indoor seating area is refined with dark woods and forest greens, though it’s not at all stuffy. A covered outdoor seating area also boasts views of Lake Buena Vista. Head here if you love horse races, golf, or just relaxing away from the crowds. It’s not a “destination” restaurant, but the food is tasty, and the service is great. Outdoor patio But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu This relaxing restaurant in Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort offers a variety of standard American fare for dinner, including pasta dishes, salads, seafood appetizers, steaks, and chops during dinner hours. The menu got a whole refresh along with the restaurant itself, so we were excited to try some of the new items. Turf Club new menu Of course, there are plenty of desserts, too, including Chocolate-Hazelnut Cake and Apple Tart. You’ll also find a full menu of cocktails, wine, and beer, too, in addition to soft drinks, tea, and coffee. Dessert menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Drinks To kick things off, we grabbed the new Saratoga Cocktail for $21. This is made with Michter’s Single Barrel Rye Whiskey, Courvoisier VS Cognac, Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth, and The Bitter Truth Decanter Bitters. Saratoga Cocktail This cocktail looks like it should pack a punch, but it is remarkably smooth. The Courvoisier leaves a balanced sweetness on the palate that tames the rye, so there’s no hint of a burn. There are lovely notes of citrus throughout. This is a perfect sipping cocktail. Eats Dinner service began with complimentary Parker House rolls, which were pretty standard. They were warm and fluffy, and were served with butter — what’s not to love? Parker House Rolls Next, we ordered the Golden-fried Calamari with Shishito Peppers for $19. This dish is served with toasted sesame aïoli and sweet chili-lime sauce. Golden-fried Calamari with Shishito Peppers The calamari is incredibly light and perfectly fried, with just enough coating to make it super crunchy. The sesame-based sauce gives you a little taste of the ocean with pleasant sesame undertones, and the rings aren’t chewy at all. The scallions add a nice crunch and a touch of freshness. The peppers play a bit of roulette: only about one in ten is actually spicy. The one we got was sweet and perfectly cooked, with the fresh crunch you want when you bite into a pepper. This is a delicious starter, and we would order it again. Be aware that if you’re not a fan of tentacles, there are some on the plate, but not so many that you can’t avoid them, especially if you have a more adventurous dining partner. Calamari For our main entree, we ordered the Corn Flake-breaded Fried Chicken and Waffle, which was $29. This comes with roasted jalapeño maple syrup and candied bacon butter. Cornflake Breaded Fried Chicken and Waffle The chicken is perfectly pounded flat and breaded, juicy and tender, and it soaks up the jalapeño syrup beautifully. The waffle is a classic buttermilk, cooked to perfection. Together they hit the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and a little smoky from the jalapeño syrup. The smokiness balances the sweetness of the real maple syrup, and the jalapeños are roasted over an open fire, which makes for complex but familiar bites. The butter is quite sweet on its own, but paired with the chicken, waffle, and jalapeño syrup, it makes the perfect sweet, salty, crunchy, savory bite. Be warned: this dish is absolutely gargantuan. It can easily be split between two people. The waffle already comes cut into two pieces, so all you have to do is slice the chicken in half and you have two perfect entrées. Cornflake Breaded Fried Chicken and Waffle Finally, for dessert, we ordered the Chocolate-Hazelnut Cake for $12. This features a hazelnut mousse and berry sauce, and it was definitely a hit! Chocolate-Hazelnut Cake This might be one of the best chocolate desserts we’ve had in a long time. The hazelnut flour adds so much hazelnut flavor without adding any denseness, and the chocolate layers in between are super creamy and delicious and blend beautifully with the hazelnut. The first few bites are enrobed in a crunchy chocolate and hazelnut coating that reminds us of Magic Shell on our childhood ice cream, but elevated to an adult palate because the chocolate is so well tempered and crunchy. Then you get the wonderful flavor of the chocolate hazelnut cake and the layers of chocolate mousse. Chocolate-Hazelnut Cake Then, when you swipe your fork through the raspberry sauce at the bottom of the plate, it combines to make a perfect bite of the dessert. The acidity of the raspberry comes through, and you can really taste it alongside the chocolate and hazelnut, creating an almost truffle-like flavor that we absolutely adore. Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… You want a “hidden gem steakhouse” moment that feels like you escaped the parks without actually leaving Disney World. This spot sits at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and leans into a rustic racetrack clubhouse theme with golf course and lake views, which is basically Disney’s way of saying: “Yes, you may pretend you’re casually wealthy for 90 minutes.” You’re planning a date night, an adults-only dinner, or a “we need quiet and protein” meal after a long day. It’s open for dinner, and the vibe is relaxed and comfortable, not stuffy-white-tablecloth, but still nicer than quick service. TouringPlans even notes the dress code is casual enough that your park-day outfit is fine, which is a big win for anyone who doesn’t want to do a full wardrobe change in their hotel room like it’s a Broadway intermission. You like classic American fare with some “Disney’s actually trying” touches. The current menu includes things like French onion soup, Brussels sprouts, calamari, and steakhouse-leaning mains (plus the occasional fun curveball like tempura-fried mushrooms). You want a table-service reservation that’s often easier to snag than the headline-grabbers. Reservations are usually available last minute, which makes this a great “Plan B that feels like Plan A” pick. You should skip this Disney World spot if… You’re trying to keep costs low. This is table service, and while it’s not “sell a kidney” dining, it’s still a sit-down steak-and-seafood-leaning menu. The menu pegs appetizers around $9–$22 and entrées roughly in the $23–$36 range, with a three-course meal often landing around $50–$55 before drinks and gratuity. You’ve got little kids who need loud energy, fast turnaround, and a menu that’s basically beige on purpose. This is calmer, slower, and more “sit and enjoy” than “inhale food, sprint to the next thing.” Great for adults, not always the easiest for tiny tornadoes. You’re staying in a far-flung Saratoga section, and you’re in “I refuse to travel” mode. This one’s in the Carriage House area, so depending on where your room is, dinner can involve a little extra commuting. Not a dealbreaker, just something your feet will have thoughts about. Overall From the first sip to the last bite, this meal was a standout. The chicken and waffle was the star of the savory courses: a sweet, salty, smoky combination that was complex yet familiar, and so generously portioned that it easily feeds two. The chocolate hazelnut dessert closed the evening on a high note, with layers of texture and flavor that were rich without being heavy. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and stood out. In just a week, Disney World will be opening up reservations for its brand new hotel, Lakeshore Lodge, which opens in July, 2027. As a result, Disney has been dropping a TON of new details about the new hotel, including some brand new concept art of its lobby and lobby lounge (and y’all, it is STUNNING). ©Disney Well, Disney is doing even MORE to promote its newest hotel, and if you live anywhere near New York City, you’ll want to visit Flatiron Public Plaza because a huge pop-up art installation dedicated to the hotel is there for a few days. We got a chance to visit it ourselves, and we’re bringing you along with us. The art installation will be available on October 1st from 2 PM to 6 PM and October 2nd from 10 AM to 5 PM, so there’s still time to see it. Lakeshore Lodge pop-up installation The art installation features a massive mural by Tracy Lee Stum, an acclaimed American street muralist who has received numerous awards for her work around the world, including a 2006 Guinness World Record for the largest chalk painting by an individual. She’s known for her colorful, interactive 3D chalk art, and you can see why. The artwork at the pop-up is inspired by Lakeshore Lodge’s Daydream River, the lazy river coming to the hotel. Look at this mural! We even spotted a not-so-hidden Mickey in the artwork. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this in real life, too! Mickey! Disney even dropped some inner tubes on the art so you can get the feeling of floating down the lazy river and take some fun photos. Are these the tubes we’ll see at the resort? They look legit, but we’ll have to wait and see! Fun photo ops Around the art, you’ll find various pieces of concept art (which we’ve already seen) of Lakeshore Lodge, as well as concept art of The Wetlands, its huge outdoor recreation area. Concept art There are also some places where you can just sit and chill for a while. Lounging area The pop-up has a lot of fun Disney and Lakeshore Lodge details that will get you really excited about the new hotel. Fun details So if you find yourself in or near New York City over the next few days, you’ll want to make sure you drop by to see this huge sidewalk mural for yourself. In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated on Disney World news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. Is it possible to DoorDash food from a Disney World restaurant? Chicken Tikka Naan Pizza Have you ever been sitting at home or in your hotel room, wishing you had a meal from Disney World, but just didn’t want to go get it? We’ve always wondered if it’s possible to order food from a restaurant on Disney World property and get it delivered to you. We’re here to tell you if you can, and if so, where you can order from! If you’ve been wondering if you can DoorDash or Uber Eats from a Disney World restaurant, the answer is YES! You can actually get food from Disney World property delivered to you. However, DoorDash is only available from two restaurants across Disney World property as of writing. Pinocchio Village Haus The first restaurant at Disney World you can get food delivered from is Earl of Sandwich at Disney Springs. It makes sense that you wouldn’t be able to DoorDash from any of the four parks or the Disney World Resort hotels, but we were surprised that there weren’t many restaurants at Disney Springs that offer delivery service. Earl of Sandwich The second restaurant you can DoorDash from is eet by Maneet Chauhan. You’ll be able to order Earl of Sandwich and eet by Maneet Chauhan to be delivered to your home if you’re a local, but did you know that you can get food delivered to the Disney World hotel you’re staying in? eet by Maneet Chauhan You’ll want to call down to the lobby to ask what the best way is to have food delivered to whichever resort you’re at. Each Disney resort might have a different process for where they will hold your food or if they have the availability to store it in the refrigerator. In our experience, meeting your Dasher in the lobby is the easiest way to avoid confusion or worse, lost food. Contemporary rooms When you’re logged in to the DoorDash app, type in the hotel’s full address. Make sure to use the address provided by a Cast Member at the front desk. Also, make sure NOT to type in your hotel room number. DoorDash drivers will not deliver to your hotel room door. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa If you are feeling a delicious meal from Earl of Sandwich, you’ll find it on the DoorDash map on Disney World property. You can also put in the Disney Springs location’s address in the search bar. It’s pretty cool to know that there is something at Disney World you can have delivered to you, without dealing with the driving and parking that comes with getting to Disney Springs. Earl of Sandwich If you’re ever looking for tips and tricks around Disney World, we’ve got you covered. Make sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog for it all! I write about and visit the Disney World parks for my job, and I STILL made some mistakes on my recent family trip. We always share our wrongdoings with you, so YOU don’t make the same mistakes! Beaches & Cream Soda Shop Disney World is constantly changing, and your “foolproof” strategies might not work depending on when you’re going, who you’re traveling with, and other factors like weather or crowd levels. I followed one of our expert dining tips during my trip, and it kept backfiring on me! Here at DFB, Disney World dining is kind of our thing, and we’ve mastered the tricks of the trade. One thing that we warn folks about constantly is overbooking dining for your vacation. It can be tempting to reserve every meal in advance, but table service meals are time-consuming, pricey, and you never know when you may need to change your park plans last-minute. We often suggest that you should just make a few key dining reservations (the ones you want the most) and then be a bit more flexible when you’re in the parks. With offerings like Mobile Order and the Walk-Up Waitlist in the My Disney Experience app, this is often a good strategy! Totchos from Woody’s Lunch Box However, I followed this tip for my last vacation, and it turned out to be a problem. I was taking my toddler, my husband, and my parents along with me, so I thought it would be nice to build in some flexibility to my week-long trip. I made two reservations in advance and figured we’d just eat quick service, do EPCOT festival booths, and make use of the Walk-Up Waitlist for any other meals. Well, that bit me in the butt…TWICE. The EPCOT Food and Wine Festival The first problem came on Wednesday, when we transferred hotels. The plan was to move to the BoardWalk midday and then snag a last-minute reservation or use the waitlist to dine in the EPCOT Resort area. It took a while to get into our room and get our luggage, and by the time we wrapped up, the dinner rush was in full swing. All of the Walk-Up Waitlist options in my area were completely full for a party of five, with no reservations available until after bedtime. We ended up snagging quick eats from a few different places at the BoardWalk and eating outside at a table until rain rolled through. I wanted the day to be flexible since it was a resort day, but I could’ve made a more solid plan. ©Disney The other problem came on our Hollywood Studios day. We had a lot of must-do rides, and I didn’t want to book a dining reservation that would interfere with any of our Lightning Lanes. I had hoped to use the Walk-Up Waitlist for either The Hollywood Brown Derby or The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge (I was craving a delicious Cobb Salad), and that completely fell through. There was no lounge availability for a party of five, and the restaurant was ONLY operating on dining reservations the day of our visit. We ended up Mobile Ordering from ABC Commissary, which was still delicious, but we lost half an hour when we were scrambling around to make a plan. Cobb Salad After these two experiences, I learned my lesson! I had one more dining slot open for the week — breakfast on Saturday morning. I went ahead and started looking for available reservations two days before and was able to snag us one for Topolino’s Terrace. My son loved meeting Mickey and friends, and we had a really yummy meal. Mickey at Topolino’s Terrace character breakfast Basically, I was trying to be flexible all week and keep our schedule open while traveling with an unpredictable toddler, but I would’ve saved some time avoiding indecision purgatory if I’d just made plans ahead of time. Also, the Walk-Up Waitlist is a wonderful invention, but it might not be as easy to use if you’re traveling with a party greater than four people. In that case, make the reservations! ©Disney So, don’t make the same mistakes as me and book those reservations! You can always cancel them up to two hours before your reservation time. Disney is FINALLY building its first new hotel since Disney’s Riviera Resort opened in 2019. The new hotel is called Lakeshore Lodge and is currently being constructed on the space that was once Disney’s River Country. The hotel is set to open in 2027, and reservations will open on October 8th. Lakeshore Lodge Ahead of that booking date, though, Disney has been dropping all kinds of new details about the new hotel, which is themed around “the beauty and magic of nature as seen through the eyes of Disney artists and storytellers.” Well, Disney just dropped a NEW look at the hotel’s lobby AND lounge, and we just HAD to share it with you. Disney revealed a new piece of concept art of the lobby showing its floor-to-ceiling windows, so that guests will always feel as if they’re surrounded by nature. The lobby takes inspiration from Pocahontas, and even has a fiberoptic river that will illuminate the lobby floor and flow around a custom bronze centerpiece. Okay, we have just one word: WOW. You’ll also spot some familiar friends from Disney animation, as well as a blown glass Colors of the Wind sculpture that has “hundreds of suspended glass leaves” so that the space has movement and color. And Disney magic, of course. ©Disney What’s a hotel lobby without a lounge, though? The lounge in this hotel lobby will be called Branch & Brush, offering handcrafted cocktails and amazing views of Bay Lake. But what’s most impressive about this lounge is that it’s inspired by the changing seasons, so it will have “rich colors, natural textures, and an enchanting collection of artwork.” At its heart is a color-changing chandelier…yes, a COLOR-CHANGING CHANDELIER that will bring all four seasons to life while you’re enjoying a drink in the lounge. ©Disney Simply gorgeous, right? Well, if you want to book a stay at this hotel, you don’t have much longer to wait. Bookings open up for Disney Vacation Club members on October 6th, for Disney World Annual Passholders on October 7th, and for everyone else on October 8th. We have a feeling this hotel is going to fill up fast for its opening week, so you’ll want to grab those reservations ASAP! Disneyland is going through a LOT right now, with construction happening all throughout the resort. A new Coco ride and Avatar Land are coming to Disney California Adventure. Avengers Campus is getting an expansion with two new rides. Upgrades are happening at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa. Disneyland entrance Well, that’s not all. There’s also a lot of construction happening around the entrances to Disneyland, which means it’s a little harder to get INTO the resort. However, Disney recently posted a warning on its website about construction on the esplanade and how you can navigate it. Disneyland visitors will soon have to use temporary walkways surrounded by construction walls to get into the theme parks and Downtown Disney as a result of construction that will build a new pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard. So entering the parks will be changing very soon and could change often while construction work is being done. Disneyland Esplanade Disney has already destroyed the ticket booths on the east Esplanade, while the East Security screening area temporarily shifts to that area. The ticket booths have been demolished The Toy Story parking lot shuttle bus drop-off and pick-up area is also changing. It will move slightly north and closer to Harbor Boulevard. Meanwhile, the Downtown Disney rideshare area has been refreshed, while selected transportation and pick-up and drop-off locations have been relocated nearby. Disneyland parking lot The new pedestrian bridge will connect the Disneyland esplanade with a new parking structure, transportation hub, and security screening area on what is now a Cast Member parking lot. A permanent security checkpoint will be located under the new pedestrian bridge once construction is completed. This is the first and one of the biggest steps in the $1.9 billion DisneylandForward expansion. ©Disney Construction work on the bridge and esplanade is expected to be completed in 2028 in time for the Avengers Campus expansion opening and the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. However, Disney has not yet officially announced an opening timeline. If you’ll be visiting Disneyland soon, you may want to give yourself additional time to get into the parks, especially if you’re staying off-property. We’ll keep an eye out for more Disney news, so stay tuned to DFB for more. You’ve Definitely Taken a Photo Here at Disneyland, and Its Story Is Weirder Than You Think DON'T DO IT ALONE! Gen X has entered a very specific era of Disney World vacationing. This is the generation that survived latchkey childhoods, drank from garden hoses, figured out how to make plans without group texts, and somehow programmed VCRs using hieroglyphic instructions. Scrooge McDuck Now they’re coming to Disney World with reading glasses, retirement accounts, very strong opinions about noise levels, and absolutely no desire to spend 40 minutes circling a restaurant with a tray looking for an empty table. But what do they also have? They also have opinions on the restaurants available to them during their vacation. Born between 1965 and 1980, Gen X is roughly 46 to 61 years old in 2026. They’re also smack in one of adulthood’s more expensive chapters. Retirement is getting closer, while plenty are still helping kids, worrying about aging parents, or doing both at once. That changes the Disney dining budget flexibility. ©Disney Gen X remembers when a Disney vacation didn’t require apps, a portable battery, a spreadsheet, and the reflexes of a competitive gamer. They’re independent and skeptical. They appreciate something good without needing it to be “an experience.” And after decades of working, parenting, caregiving, and hearing every appliance in America start beeping at them, they would sometimes just like to sit down somewhere quiet. Grandpa We polled some of our resident Gen Xers about the Disney World restaurants they’re loving right now. The answers were consistent. Good food, good value, nostalgia, fewer hoops, and, emphatically, booze. The Unwritten Packing Rules Gen X Is Following in Disney World Cape May Cafe Character dining can get intense. Some character breakfasts feel like organized chaos — Mickey is making the rounds, somebody’s kid is melting down over breakfast potatoes, and a family of 12 is trying to wrangle everyone into the same photo before Donald wanders off. Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort feels a little different. Donald Duck at Cape May Cafe Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast still gives you the classic Disney character breakfast experience, complete with Minnie Mouse and friends, but the whole thing tends to feel more relaxed than some of Disney World’s blockbuster character meals. That’s appealing to Gen X. The prettiest breakfast plate you ever did see! This generation does not necessarily need to secure the hardest reservation on property just because TikTok told everybody else to get it. Cape May Cafe delivers characters, Mickey waffles, coffee, and a calmer start to the morning. One of our Gen Xers specifically called out the fact that reservations tend to be easier to snag. Which means fewer alarms set for an obscene hour just to book breakfast. They’ve been waking up early for work since 1987. Enough. Cape May Cafe Review: We Ate TWO Meals in One Day at Cape May Cafe in Disney World, and We’re Not Mad About It. Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria Remember that part about retirement? Yeah, now the phrase “we could just split a pizza” hits differently. Via Napoli in EPCOT’s Italy pavilion has long been one of our favorite places for pizza, and it’s even more useful when you’re traveling with a group and don’t want everyone ordering a full entree. Prosciutto e Melone pizza at Via Napoli Via Napoli serves Italian dishes including pizzas from its wood-burning ovens, but the real appeal for our Gen X crew is the math. A big pizza shared around the table can make much more sense than ordering multiple individual entrees. “MEZZO SIZE, please!” Gen X understands this because they have reached the age when the words “catch-up contribution” appear in financial conversations. They would still like to go to Disney World and want to enjoy a solid dining experience. They would also like to stop working… eventually. And there’s something deeply recognizable about Gen X refusing to pay more simply because you technically could. This is the generation that kept empty Cool Whip containers because those were now Tupperware. Wood-burning “Volcano” Ovens at Via Napoli The Two Best Things To Order at Via Napoli in EPCOT Casey’s Corner Casey’s Corner doesn’t need to reinvent itself. In fact, please don’t. The Magic Kingdom staple still serves the sort of baseball-park food that has fueled Disney vacations for decades, including hot dogs, mini corn dogs, and fries. For Gen X, though, the food is only half of it. This one is memory. Have you ever seen something so beautiful? A lot of today’s Gen X Disney fans first visited Magic Kingdom as kids, and Casey’s still feels closely tied to that version of the park. It sits right at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., with the smell of hot dogs in the air, the piano playing outside, and Cinderella Castle looming just beyond it all. For a minute, you’re eight years old again, long before anyone had ever uttered the words “virtual queue.” That kind of nostalgia hits Gen X especially hard because so much of the world they grew up with has changed or disappeared completely. Shopping malls aren’t what they were, MTV definitely isn’t what it was, video stores are gone, and even the McDonald’s PlayPlace has lost some of its former glory. Casey’s Corner But you can still walk down Main Street, grab something from Casey’s, and find a little thread connecting this Disney trip to one you took decades ago. Lunch doesn’t need to be innovative. REVIEW: We Ate EVERYTHING at Casey’s Corner in Disney World The Hollywood Brown Derby At some point, Disney dining priorities shift. You still want a good meal, but you also want to sit down somewhere comfortable, order a proper cocktail, and hear the person across the table without leaning in like you’re sharing classified information. That is where The Hollywood Brown Derby comes in. The Hollywood Brown Derby The restaurant has plenty of nostalgia, but it’s a different flavor than Casey’s Corner. Brown Derby taps into old-school Hollywood, with dark wood, caricatures lining the walls, white tablecloths, and a menu that still includes the famous Cobb Salad inspired by the original Hollywood Brown Derby recipe. Cobb Salad For Gen X, though, a big part of the appeal is that it feels like a retreat from the park outside. Disney World can be loud, crowded, and over-stimulating, so stepping into a restaurant that feels a little more polished and removed from all of that can be surprisingly restorative. And Gen X has earned the right to appreciate a quiet dining room. This is a generation that has spent decades sitting through school concerts, youth sports, office meetings, birthday parties, airport delays, and every other noisy obligation adulthood can manufacture. At Disney World, a comfortable chair, a decent steak, and a cocktail served without a side of sensory overload start to feel downright luxurious. Brown Derby Brown Derby doesn’t need to chase trends or build dinner around a gimmick. It’s established, comfortable, and a little old-fashioned in the best way. For Gen X, is an island of sanctuary and inner-peace in an ocean of over-stimulation and thrill rides. The Best Thing I Ate All Week in Disney World Was At Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge. Jiko I can’t write a post about “favorite restaurants” and NOT mention Jiko. It’s quiet, elegant, a little under the radar, and should definitely make the list of anyone visiting Disney World (Gen Xer or not!) Jiko Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of Disney World’s Signature Dining restaurants, with African-inspired dishes, an impressive South African wine list, and the kind of atmosphere that feels special without turning dinner into a production. And that may be exactly why it works so well for Gen X. Jiko Wine Selection There’s no sense that you’re racing the rest of the internet to get there before the next viral menu item disappears. You don’t need to order something because everybody on social media is holding it up to a camera. Jiko is simply a really good restaurant, tucked away at a resort that rewards people who already know where they want to go. By this point, Gen X has spent enough years being marketed to, upsold, trend-chased, and told what they absolutely need to try. If they’ve found a restaurant with great food, a quieter dining room, good wine, and an atmosphere they actually enjoy, they’re not abandoning it because something newer opened across the property last Tuesday. Yum! They know what they like. Jiko delivers it. Reservation hype can carry on without them. My Official Love Letter to Jiko in Disney World Regal Eagle Smokehouse Gen X grew up with The Muppets. This creates certain obligations. Regal Eagle Smokehouse in EPCOT is themed around Sam Eagle’s distinctly over-the-top salute to American barbecue, and yes, we understand that the Muppet theming here is more restrained than having Kermit personally deliver your brisket. Doesn’t matter. A Muppet is involved. Gen X reports for duty. A Sam Eagle Reference Regal Eagle serves barbecue inspired by regional styles from around the country, with plenty of sauces, beer, cider, and cocktails to round things out. The food is solid, the location is easy, and Sam Eagle presides over the whole operation with exactly the kind of stern patriotic disapproval we’ve come to expect from him. All the eats! The only problem is that the dining room can get crowded. This presents Gen X with one of its greatest natural predators: Find-a-table roulette. Ordinarily, this generation would take one look at the chaos, mutter something under its breath, and leave. But it’s The Muppets, so they’ll endure. They’ll guard a table while someone else gets the food. They’ll stare down anybody approaching a vacant chair. They’ll establish a defensive perimeter around the condiment station if required. Crowds during lunch Gen X spent entire childhood summers outside with no adult supervision; they can handle this. For Sam. The BEST $20 You’ll Spend at Regal Eagle in Disney World Literally Any Lounge And then one of our bold Gen Xers entered the chat. Her contribution to this discussion was so perfectly on brand that it needed almost no editing: “Some of us (points to self) are coping with the general decline of humanity with booze, soooo… [INSERT ANY LOUNGE HERE].” Orange-spiced Sangria That may be the Gen X Disney dining manifesto in one sentence. Give them a lounge. Tambu Lounge, Territory Lounge, Nomad Lounge, Enchanted Rose, Dahlia Lounge, Crew’s Cup, AbracadaBar. The specific choice almost doesn’t matter. What matters is finding a comfortable chair, ordering something decent to eat, and having a drink without turning the whole thing into an event. The most relaxing atmosphere That is a very appealing proposition for a generation that has spent most of its adult life managing schedules, careers, kids, parents, bills, group chats, and whatever else is demanding attention before breakfast. Sometimes the luxury isn’t a hard-to-get reservation. Sometimes it’s sitting in a dimly lit room with a cocktail and nobody asking you to pose for a photo. Brulee Banana Highball And Disney World has officially added another option to the rotation. Hurly-Burly opened at Disney’s BoardWalk TODAY, October 1st, with light bites, specialty drinks, and entertainment taking over the former Jellyrolls space. Families can stop by during the afternoon, but after 9PM, the venue shifts to 21-and-up with live music. Hurly-Burly Which sounds almost tailor-made for Gen X. Spend the day being responsible, walking EPCOT, keeping track of everyone, and maybe answering the work email you absolutely should have ignored. Then 9PM hits, the under-21 crowd clears out, the music starts, and somebody puts a cocktail in your hand. Now we’re talking. The SECRET to Getting Into the Most Popular Disney World Lounges and Bars Gen X Knows What It Wants Gen X has a pretty clear pattern for dining at Disney World, and it has less to do with chasing whatever just opened than with knowing exactly what makes a meal worth their time. Full spread at Hollywood Brown Derby They want a character breakfast that doesn’t require a battle plan, a pizza that can feed the table without torching the vacation budget, and a place like Casey’s that still feels connected to the Disney World they remember growing up with. They appreciate Brown Derby and Jiko because sometimes a good meal, a comfortable chair, and a little breathing room are more appealing than another buzzy reservation everyone is scrambling to get. They’ll even put up with a crowded dining room at Regal Eagle because, well, The Muppets are involved, and some loyalties run deep. Casey’s Corner! And when they’ve had enough of crowds, mobile orders, and whatever fresh logistical puzzle Disney World has handed them that day, there’s always a lounge somewhere with a decent drink and an empty seat. Let everyone else fight over the viral reservation. Gen X already found the barstool, ordered an Old Fashioned, and muted the group chat. If you’re planning a trip to Disney World or anywhere else, you’ve probably seen just how high airfare prices seem to be right now. Now, airlines have a good excuse for raising prices because the cost of fuel has gone up by a lot, but even if fuel prices go down, it looks like travelers might still be stuck with higher airfares. Flying just keeps getting more expensive Well, that’s going to be even more true going into the holiday season. According to CBS News, holiday airfares this year will be the highest they’ve been in 10 years. Ouch. The average round-trip ticket price for a domestic flight during Thanksgiving week is $402, which is an increase of $95 from the same time last year. Meanwhile, round-trip domestic flights around Christmas are now averaging $452, which is $85 more than last year. That’s a pretty significant increase. American Airlines Plane Right now, tickets for domestic round-trip flights are up 31% compared to last year, mostly due to higher jet fuel costs. Months of these higher jet fuel costs due to the conflict in Iran are why Thanksgiving and Christmas airfares are reaching the highest they’ve been in a decade. The cost of jet fuel is usually around 30% of an airline’s operating costs. This is in addition to higher checked bag fees that airlines put into place earlier this year. Flying Before the Iran war began in February, jet fuel was around $99 per barrel, but since then, it has peaked at $209 in April and $195 per barrel in September. It was pretty much inevitable that airlines increased their airfare prices to compensate for the greater expense. Flying is getting pricier However, not all hope is lost because there are ways to save a little on holiday airfare. First, being flexible with your destination could save you quite a bit of money. You’ll also want to book your holiday airfare before Halloween because fares aren’t expected to drop and may increase. ©Southwest Airlines Also, consider traveling on off-peak days: for example, you may save money by flying on a Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving and returning on any other day than the Sunday after the holiday. If you’re traveling for Christmas, avoid traveling on December 18th, 19th, 20th, and 27th. Aim for other days to save some on your airfare. Today is the 55th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort! We talk a lot about our founder Walt Disney and the incredible change he brought into the world through the power of his imagination; on milestones such as this anniversary, it’s important to recognize that our cast members and guests carry Walt’s vision forward every day as they create the countless memories that make Disney so special. So, to all who enter this happy place to fill it with love, joy, passion, and dreams – welcome, and thank you. When the Disney brothers unveiled their plans for the Florida Project at that historic press conference in 1965, they imagined a place that would never stop evolving. And that vision has been fulfilled in so many remarkable ways since. In just the last five years since we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort, we’ve added nearly a theme park’s worth of experiences, with over 70 experiences opened or refreshed since 2021. And we’re not done growing! If we were handing out “most likely” and “best of” awards, I’d have to award Walt Disney World with “Most Likely To Keep Moving Forward, Opening Up New Doors, and Doing New Things.” In fact – in the spirit of looking back and celebrating the 55th anniversary of the resort, here are a few more recent “best-of” moments since our last milestone: Best New Memories Under the Stars – “Luminous The Symphony of Us” (2023) and “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” (2025): From the fireworks, fountains, and heartfelt music of the nighttime spectacular at EPCOT, to the starlit procession of dreamers and doers from beloved Disney tales at Magic Kingdom, “Luminous The Symphony of Us” and “Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away” are the perfect ways to end a Disney day. Best Use of the Magic of Possibility – the transformation of EPCOT: Celebrating all the things that make EPCOT, EPCOT, the massive, multi-year transformation touched every neighborhood of the park and brought all-new experiences for guests to discover, including Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure (2021), Space 220 (2021), Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (2023), the beautiful Dreamers Point and World Celebration Gardens (2023), CommuniCore Hall and Plaza (2024), and more. Best Thrills – TRON Lightcycle / Run Presented by Enterprise (2023), Tiana’s Bayou Adventure (2024), Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets (2026): If you ask my 10- and 8-year-old nephews what they like most about visiting Walt Disney World, the answer is going to be coasters, coasters, and more coasters (and Tower of Terror, a perennial favorite for the 10-year-old). The resort is full of thrilling experiences, and nothing makes your heart race and your imagination soar like riding a lightcycle, making an exhilarating 55-foot drop in a log flume, or racing higgledy-piggledy (sorry, Miss Piggy) to get to a sold-out Electric Mayhem concert. Best Immersion into the Magic – Round Up Rodeo BBQ (2023), The Beak and Barrel (2025), Zootopia: Better Zoogether! (2025): Storytelling is what Disney does best, and these three new experiences are perfect examples of just how immersive a well-told tale can be. You believe you’re a toy when you hear “Andy’s coming!” and freeze, mid-meal at Roundup Rodeo BBQ; you feel like a true pirate when you quench your thirst at the rowdiest tavern in Adventureland at The Beak and Barrel; and you know we’re all better Zoogether while the Tree of Life Theater comes to life around you. Best Place for Childlike Joy – Bluey’s Wild World at Conservation Station (2026), Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! Show (2026), The Magic of Disney Animation (2026): Is there any better smile than that of a kiddo spotting Bluey and Bingo in real life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Or any better sound than families laughing together while they dance and play with Mickey Mouse and his friends? And personally, I felt like a kid again when Olaf teamed up with legendary Disney Animation artists to teach me how to draw favorite Disney characters at The Magic of Disney Animation. Best Chance for a Standing Ovation – Country Bear Musical Jamboree (2024), “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” (2025), “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” (2025): It’s no surprise that some of the finest stage performances can be found across Walt Disney World, including these three new and refreshed experiences. You can’t help but cheer hearing the Country Bears growl out bluegrass and country-western versions of classic Disney songs. And there’s theater magic to be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios when you’re swimming under the sea with Ariel or judging which Disney villain was treated the most unfairly of them all. Best Night’s Sleep in the Magic – More than 18,000 refreshed rooms across 10 Resort hotels (2021-2025); Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (2024); New cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (2024): Home, sweet magical home! When you stay at Walt Disney World in any of these beautiful and modern rooms and hotels, you wake up only steps away from your next Disney adventure. Plus… Mickey waffles! Best Glow Ups – Test Track presented by General Motors (2025), Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (2026), Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (2026), the new mission at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (2026): I love the way these classic experiences got pixie-dusted with new magic! From getting target practice tips from Buddy the Star Command support bot at Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, to hanging out with Grogu on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, it feels like all the classic favorites have something new to discover. Best New Look for an Icon – Cinderella’s Castle (2026): In a category all of its own, Cinderella Castle has been a beacon of hope and the picture-perfect icon of Walt Disney World Resort for 55 years. The recent return to a classic storybook color scheme of blues, creams, grays and golds feels like a nostalgic hug and a fresh, shiny look for Cinderella Castle. I could go on and on – as I mentioned, there are over 70 new or refreshed experiences at the resort since the 50th anniversary! The power of The Most Magical Place on Earth to spread joy can be felt with all the new things to experience and across every reimagined favorite. And with new projects like Carousel of Progress, the Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom, Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there’s plenty more growth on our horizon. So, here’s to the 55th anniversary – and to a beloved past, exciting present, and bright future of The Most Magical Place on Earth. The fall season might be here, but the Florida weather wants to say otherwise! Magic Kingdom If you’ve got a Disney World trip planned for the weekend, you’re going to want to pack a few essential items for both rain and shine. It may be fall, but it looks like the humid heat and stormy weather are both returning to Orlando this weekend. Let’s take a look at what we know and what to expect. We’ve been feeling the weather start to cool down a little bit, making Disney days so much easier. However, the National Weather Service says heat indices could reach the low 100s by Friday, October 2nd. This is due to the high pressure building over the Florida peninsula, which is pushing moisture back into the area. Spaceship Earth On October 1st, rain chances are looking like 40-60%. Those chances increase to 50-70% on Friday. Expect storms each afternoon, with frequent lightning, gusty winds, and heavy downpours. As for the heat, the afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s on both Thursday and Friday. The peak heat periods will see temperatures between 98 and 103 degrees. Tree of Life Saturday and Sunday won’t be as bad as Friday. Rain and storm chances will drop compared to what we’ll see on Friday. Afternoon highs will stay in the upper 80s to low 90s, but the lows will be in the low to mid 70s. Don’t expect it to be perfect, and don’t expect NO rain. There still will be showers, but just not as harsh. Tower of Terror Next week, we won’t have to deal with the summer heat at Disney World as much anymore. A cold front is on the way and will reach north-central Florida by Tuesday, October 6th. Moisture and rain chances will increase again, so still be prepared for that. Cinderella Castle If you are going to Disney World this weekend, you need to make sure you pack the essentials. Water bottles are important for every season, and we can’t stress that enough. When it’s hot, stay hydrated! Mini fans and cooling towels are also great ways to stay cool during the heat. Umbrellas, shoe coverings, and stroller coverings are things you should have with you as well, as the storms roll in. Picture this: you’ve spent all day at Magic Kingdom and have run yourself ragged experiencing all the rides, getting rather acquainted with Lightning Lanes, and taking as many breaks in the A/C as you possibly can. You’re more exhausted than you’ve possibly ever been in your life, and all you can think about is getting into your comfy, cozy, Disney World hotel bed. ©Disney With over 30 Disney World-owned hotels on property, how are you supposed to choose which one is right for you?! Soon enough, you’ll have one more hotel to choose from: Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge officially opens on July 1st, 2027. If you want to book a stay at this new hotel when it opens, mark your calendar: reservations open next week! Bookings for Lakeshore Lodge start next week! A couple of exclusive groups will have the chance to make their reservations early, which is an excellent perk. So, when exactly do these reservations open? We’re so glad you asked! Disney Vacation Club Members can book reservations for Lakeshore Lodge starting October 6th, 2026 by calling Member Services at (800) 800-9800; Disney World Annual Passholders can book reservations for Lakeshore Lodge starting October 7th, 2026 by calling (407) 934-7639; The General Public can book reservations for Lakeshore Lodge starting October 8th, 2026 on the Disney World website or by calling (407) 934-7639. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge ©Disney After October 8th, reservations will officially be open for anyone to book a stay at this brand-new hotel! Disney has shared that Lakeshore Lodge was inspired by Walt Disney’s admiration for the great outdoors, and “the resort’s design will pay tribute to decades of animated stories rooted in nature, with subtle nods to classic films — from the lush forests of Bambi and the colorful winds of Pocahontas to the sweeping glacial landscapes of Brother Bear.” ©Disney Lakeshore Lodge is a new Disney Vacation Club Resort hotel, but that doesn’t mean only DVC members can stay there. The hotel will feature 967 rooms, ranging from “cozy studios to spacious suites.” Guests will be able to cool off in The Wetlands, which will feature epic water features, or you can relax in the Daydream River that travels through the pool area. In the heart of the area, you’ll find Lakeside Lagoon, which is a zero-entry pool for guests of all ages, and it’s even got a spiral waterslide! ©Disney Kiddos will also be able to enjoy an area just for them, where they’ll be able to “become part of nature’s story through whimsical wet and dry play areas inspired by the music and storytelling of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Pocahontas.” Additionally, Heron Shores will bring exploration and hands-on play to kids via its climbing features, Otter Springs will have lots of interactive water fun, and there will be a leisure pool located on the other side of the resort. ©Disney Lakeshore Lodge features three dining options. Moonglade is a table-service restaurant with thoughtfully prepared dishes featuring locally sourced ingredients. Bay Lake Provisions will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a quick-service marketplace featuring an open kitchen with specialty coffees and fresh fare. Lastly, Paint Out Point Bar & Grill will be located by the Lakeshore Lagoon pool, serving shareable bites and specialty beverages. Moonglade ©Disney We can’t wait to check out Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge when it finally opens. We’ll be on the lookout for additional Disney hotel updates you need to know about and more. One of the things that roller coaster enthusiasts love about riding roller coasters is the thrill factor that comes from a sense of danger and fear when a coaster pushes riders to their limits with high speeds, deep dives, loops, and more. However, sometimes things go wrong with these thrill rides. ©Six Flags Hundreds of riders on the X2 roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain recently reported brain injuries after riding the attraction. As a result, Six Flags has decided to close the roller coaster…forever. Six Flags posted a letter online from Brian Oerding, the Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. In the letter, Oerding announces that the X2 roller coaster would be permanently shut down after almost 20 years. Oerding wrote, “Since X2 opened in 2008, it has welcomed more than 16 million guests and earned a passionate following among ride enthusiasts. We recognize the special place X2 holds in the coaster community, and we are grateful to our team members who operated and maintained it throughout its run.” ©Six Flags The letter goes on to explain the reason for the closure: “While X2 consistently passed a multitude of safety tests, we have decided to close the ride because we believe it’s the right thing to do. Ride safety is a cornerstone of our business, and when we see guest confidence affected, we take it seriously.” X2 temporarily closed in July, but it will now remain closed permanently. ©Six Flags This comes after a CNN investigation that uncovered more than 100 people with claims of brain injuries after riding the coaster. Three lawsuits have also been filed against Six Flags over X2 ride incidents, including 26-year-old Naomi Greer-Wilkinson and 40-year-old Pamela Guillen, who both fell unconscious after the ride and had to undergo emergency brain surgery for severe brain injuries. Let’s talk about breakfast. Now, for some, it’s the most important part of the day, and if you’re visiting Disney World, you’ll definitely want something to fuel you up for full days in the parks. Now, there are a TON of options for breakfast in Disney World, including character dining experiences, but if you’re staying at your hotel, you might just want to grab something there. Peanut Butter Crunch Pancakes Well, for those staying at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, two new breakfast foods just arrived, so we made our way over to the hotel to try them…you know…for science, or breakfast science, if you will. First, we headed over to Rix Sports Bar & Grill to try the new Peanut Butter Crunch Pancakes for $20. This is three granola crunch buttermilk pancakes layered with bananas and candied walnuts, topped with creamy peanut butter sauce and served with choice of applewood bacon or kielbasa sausage. And, yes, that’s pricey for some pancakes. First off, we really wanted more peanut butter flavor. They WERE crunchy with the granola and the walnuts, so at least they lived up to that part of the name. We were also surprised by the whipped cream because it tasted high quality. It was dense and sweet, and gave the pancakes a more decadent taste. The bananas were soft and added sweetness, as well. You know those crazy topped pancakes at IHOP? The quality of these pancakes was about on par with that, so the $20 price tag feels a bit steep. They’re good pancakes We also made our way over to Barcelona Lounge to try the new Mickey Churro Cinnamon Roll topped with icing for $7.99. For a standard Disney cinnamon roll, we’d say this was good, but it’s not Gaston’s Tavern good. This cinnamon roll is very dense, so it’s shareable, plus it’s VERY sweet. We thought it might be super dry, and it wasn’t, but it still could have used more icing on top. It’s shaped like Mickey This one is super messy to eat, too. Pieces of icing and cinnamon sugar were just flying everywhere when we tried to dive into it. It’s something you might want to get if you’re staying at Coronado Springs and want something sweet, but we don’t think it’s worth a trip to the hotel if you’re not staying there. Inside the cinnamon roll We’ll be back with even more new Disney World food reviews, so stay tuned to DFB for more. REVIEW: Is This Hard-to-Get Disney World Snack Worth $5?
