For me, summer has always been synonymous with two things: a good book and a trip to Disney Parks. Growing up in the Midwest, the warmer months meant jumping in a pool, enjoying a BBQ in a neighbor’s backyard, or packing up the car and heading to Florida for a family vacation. I distinctly remember my parents waking me up at 3 a.m. to stumble into the backseat, pillow in hand, only to fall back asleep within minutes. I’m not sure about you, but there’s something about a long overnight drive, my dad behind the wheel, and an audiobook playing at half speed that feels like gas station candy and a little bit of nostalgia. My park days have changed a bit. I rarely rope drop (Sleeping Beauty and I are one and the same) and I happily spend my afternoons riding the monorail from one resort to another, reading under my favorite tree near Disney’s BoardWalk, or catching one of the final songs during the Eat to the Beat Concert Series. With a slower pace came the realization that the stories I pack for vacation become part of the memories too. Everyone has their own Disney Parks vacation personality, and I think over the years, I’ve been a little bit of them all. Maybe you’re racing to your favorite attraction before park open. Maybe you’ve already planned every dining reservation. Or maybe your perfect vacation involves a lounge chair, a pool, and absolutely nowhere to be. Whatever your Disney travel style, there’s a book or two to match. Here are a few reads for every kind of parkgoer. The Rope Dropper You’ll be first in line for your favorite attraction and somehow still have energy for nighttime fireworks. My rope-dropping era began in 2014 with early mornings, park opening fireworks, and the Welcome Show. The buzz of those first guests outside the park gates — ready to tap their new MagicBands, be greeted by Mickey Mouse, and race down Main Street, U.S.A. toward their favorite attraction — was my cup of coffee. For the planner who treats a park map like a strategy guide, these books belong in your backpack. Disney Parks Little Golden Book Collection Birnbaum’s 2025-2026 Walt Disney World Birnbaum’s 2025-2025 Disneyland 100 Disney Adventures of a Lifetime The Guest Who Booked Their Dining Reservation Before Their Hotel Your vacation revolves around what you’re eating next. I’ll admit I’ve planned entire park days around a dining reservation, but some of my favorite Disney snacks are far less glamorous. Fresh popcorn dipped in warm pretzel cheese (no pretzel required). Whether you’re counting down to a character breakfast, snacking your way around EPCOT, or researching menus weeks in advance, food has a way of becoming part of the vacation memories. These titles bring a little Disney flavor home. Winnie the Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood Cookbook Moana: The Official Cookbook Star Wars: Galactic Drinks The Golden Girls Cookbook The Resort Pool Regular Your ideal Disney day includes a lounge chair, a pool, and a good book. Not every memorable vacation moment happens inside the parks. Some of the best ones come from slow mornings, afternoon pool breaks, and telling your friends “Just one more chapter” before heading to dinner. For the guest who always builds in a resort day, these are the perfect poolside companions. When We Had Summer The Ruins Beneath Us Kiss The Girl Here Beside the Rising Tide The First-Time Family Every moment feels brand new. I’ll never forget the look on a child’s face as it lights up right before bolting, arms first, toward Chip ‘n’ Dale for the biggest hugs ever. Whether it’s their first attraction, first character hug, or first bedtime story back at the resort, those firsts become the memories families carry home long after the vacation ends. These books help keep that magic going. Disney Baby: Winnie the Pooh Makes a Friend! Lilibet Makes a Friend Norman and the Smell of Adventure The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Traveler You know exactly where to find blue milk. My love for Star Wars began with a seventh birthday party. I don’t remember much about the party itself, but I do remember the Anakin Skywalker snap bracelets and begging my mom to give me Princess Leia hair. These days, I still find myself making a beeline for Batuu. If your Disney vacation isn’t complete without blue milk, droids, and a journey to a galaxy far, far away…. these adventures are for you. Star Wars: Galactic Adventures Star Wars: Legacy Star Wars Icons: Vader William Shakespeare’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian of Nevarro The Disney Adult You have strong opinions about Main Street music loops and your favorite resort lobby. Maybe you’ve found a little bit of yourself in every category. You can smell the Pirates of the Caribbean water before you even reach the attraction, recite every word of The Haunted Mansion preshow, and somehow, you’re already planning your next Disney vacation before the current one ends. For the Disney Adult, the magic doesn’t end when you leave the parks, it continues through the stories that inspired them. Wings of Starlight Worth Fighting For Rootbound: A Tangled Novel Twisted Tales: Adventure Is Out There No matter what kind of Disney vacationer you are, I hope you find a story that earns a spot in your park bag, carry-on, or resort tote. After all, some of my favorite Disney memories began long before I ever boarded an attraction, like learning to swim at a Walt Disney World resort when I was four. Today, they’re just as likely to begin between the pages of a good book. From pricey menus to deal-breaking restrictions, these are the restaurants Disney World fans are skipping in 2027! Desserts at Geo 82 There are literally HUNDREDS of restaurants to choose from around Disney World. Whether you’re looking for a chance to dine with some of your favorite characters or enjoy a high-end meal, there’s an option for just about any taste! But, of course, there isn’t nearly enough time to check them all out in one vacation, so not every spot can make the cut on the itinerary. These are the five Disney World restaurants fans aren’t booking in 2027! Be Our Guest Restaurant One of the most immersive restaurants around Disney World, Be Our Guest Restaurant serves up French-inspired cuisine inside the iconic castle from Beauty and the Beast. The setting alone has made it a fan-favorite spot for years…so why would so many people opt to skip it in 2027?? Be Our Guest The biggest reason here comes down to price — Be Our Guest is an EXPENSIVE meal, especially if you’ve got a large party. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, and both meals feature a prix-fixe menu priced at $72 per adult and $43 per child, so you’re locked in for that hefty price tag per person, no matter what everyone chooses to order! Steak Frites For guests with only the time or budget for one “castle” meal in Magic Kingdom, many may lean towards Cinderella’s Royal Table over Be Our Guest, especially since you get to meet several Disney Princesses while dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table. Ariel at Cinderella’s Royal Table On the plus side, we’ve actually been pretty impressed with the food at Be Our Guest lately, so if you’re looking for a more upscale meal in Magic Kingdom and want to experience the seriously cool Beauty and the Beast theming for yourself, it might be worth snagging a reservation! GEO-82 As HUGE fans of all things EPCOT, we were thrilled when the new Spaceship Earth-themed lounge, GEO-82, officially opened in 2025! Fitting with the ride it’s themed for, GEO-82 features classic cocktails and small plates that showcase global flavors blended with culinary artistry. Brulee Banana Highball This lounge is FANCY, in the best way possible, and it somehow feels both like a perfect little escape from the park while still paying homage to one of our favorite EPCOT attractions. The craft cocktails at GEO-82 are seriously well thought-out and unique, like the Brown Butter Old Fashioned, which we LOVED! Brown Butter Old Fashioned Oh, and did we mention the lounge has views of the EPCOT fireworks, Luminous: The Symphony of Us, with the option for the separately-booked GEO-82 Fireworks Experience for a front-row seat?? Luminous as seen from GEO-82 With so many great features, why would anyone decide not to try for a reservation for GEO-82?? Well, if you’re traveling with the kiddos, this one will be off the table because only guests aged 21+ are allowed to visit GEO-82. However, Disney World’s other new lounge, the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed The Beak and Barrel in Magic Kingdom, IS family-friendly, so you can try to snag a reservation there instead! Space 220 Space 220 is a futuristic restaurant that takes guests on a dining adventure 220 miles above EPCOT! It’s a super immersive spot that offers diners a full panoramic view of space. Not a bad view Space 220 offers two separate experiences: table service dining and a bar and lounge area. Much like Be Our Guest, guests who opt for table service at Space 220 must order from a prix fixe menu. Flight 220 We’ve seen lots of people starting to catch on that they can skip making a reservation for table service at Space 220 and opt for the lounge or walk-up bar instead for a much cheaper experience! Space 220 The Space 220 lounge accepts Advance Dining Reservations for table seating, and since it’s so popular, we suggest snagging one ahead of time to ensure you get a spot! Or, guests who would rather sit at the bar instead can wait in a standby line for their seat. La Crêperie de Paris La Crêperie de Paris is a table service restaurant in EPCOT’s France Pavilion that features a menu from celebrity chef Jérôme Bocuse with everything made-to-order! The menu includes both savory crêpes called “galettes” and sweet crêpes, so there are flavors for a range of palates! Savory crêpe Guests can choose to either order à la carte or opt for the daily prix fixe menu. The prix fixe menu comes with a choice of soup or a salad, one savory galette, one dessert crêpe, and a glass of hard cider, soda, or juice, and unlike many other prix fixe meals around Disney World, it’s actually one of the BEST table service deals we’ve found! Saumon Galette But, as great as the value is for the prix fixe meal at La Crêperie de Paris, there are a few reasons many people may choose to skip a reservation here. For one, the atmosphere of the restaurant just isn’t that exciting, and with SO MANY unique places to eat around EPCOT, it might lose out to one of the more ultra-themed spots. La Crêperie de Paris Also, the restaurant offers a walk-up window, Crêpes À Emporter at La Crêperie de Paris, which gives guests the option to get their crêpe fix for cheap and on-the-go, instead of sitting down for a full meal. ‘Ohana The last restaurant on our list might come as a shock, since ‘Ohana has been one of the most popular restaurants around Disney World for years. And, to be fair, we’re sure that reservations here will still be a hot commodity, especially for the character breakfast! Stitch at ‘Ohana Breakfast But as much as we’ve been fans of ‘Ohana over the years, we’ve noticed that the food quality has been more hit-or-miss recently. Plus, there are other places around Disney World to get some of the restaurant’s most famous dishes without the ‘Ohana price tag. For one, you can snag the coconut-pineapple bread pudding at Caribbean Beach Resort’s Sebastian’s Bistro! Coconut-Pineapple Bread Pudding And if it’s the famous ‘Ohana noodles you’re craving, you can grab them at the nearby Tambu Lounge instead! ‘Ohana noodles at Tambu Lounge Again, we don’t exactly expect ‘Ohana to be sitting empty any time soon, but with inconsistent quality and the option to order some of the restaurant’s most popular items elsewhere for cheaper, some guests might be reconsidering whether ‘Ohana is still worth working into their budget! We’ve been to EVERY Disney World restaurant and are constantly checking back to see which ones still hold up, so stay tuned to DFB for all the info you need to plan your next Disney World trip! 10 Disney World Restaurants That Are Having a Low-Key Renaissance Right Now Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! CAMP ROCK!! ©Disney If this ignites a fiery passion in you to grab your drumsticks and start rocking, then you probably remember the iconic Camp Rock movie (and the second one, which is also pretty incredible). Camp Rock 3 premieres on Disney Channel on August 13th and will be on Disney+ the next day, and to celebrate, Camp Rock might be coming to a city near you. Disney has announced the “All Roads Lead to Camp” bus tour! This coast-to-coast tour started on July 3rd and started a month-long road trip before it reaches its final destination, D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California, on August 14th. ©Disney Fans will be able to step aboard an immersive Camp Rock experience featuring a throwback “Disney Knees” photo moment, a Camp Rock 3 hat customization station, exclusive photo opportunities in and around the Camp Rock bus, and special giveaways. There will be even more surprises! The bus will be stopping at: July 3-4 – Nashville, Tennessee July 16 – Charleston, South Carolina July 18 – Atlanta, Georgia July 20 – Charlotte, North Carolina July 25 – Cleveland, Ohio July 26 – Detroit, Michigan July 28 – Ann Arbor, Michigan July 29 – South Bend, Indiana July 31 – Chicago, Illinois Aug. 1 – Milwaukee, Wisconsin Aug. 1 – Davenport, Iowa Aug. 2 – St. Louis, Missouri Aug. 3 – Kansas City, Missouri Aug. 4 – Denver, Colorado Aug. 9 – Los Angeles, California Aug. 11 – San Diego, California Aug. 14-16 – Anaheim, California ©Disney Something super cool about the tour is that they’re collaborating with the American Camp Association (ACA), and the bus will make special stops at select ACA-accredited summer camps to bring the spirit of Camp Rock to the campers. They are also offering scholarships to make summer camp possible for underserved kids across the country. ©Disney I have August 14th circled on my calendar to watch Camp Rock 3 on Disney+. The movie started “when Connect 3 loses their opening act for a major reunion tour, they return to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing. As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise, and friendships are tested — leading to unexpected alliances, revelations, and romances. ©Disney This tour sounds awesome, and we love it when Disney brings some of our favorite movies to life. Hi, my name is Robin, and I’m ARMY, and for those who don’t know, that means that I’m a fan of the international K-pop band BTS. I also love McDonald’s, mostly because it’s one of the few restaurants I can get DoorDashed in my small town (although those fries always hit a certain way). McDonald’s Happy Meal Well, McDonald’s knows that there are a LOT of us ARMY out there, which is why a NEW BTS-themed Happy Meal is coming soon, and this one is dedicated to BT21. McDonald’s teased the BT21 Happy Meals, but BTS fans caught on immediately because we’re familiar with the BT21 characters. For those not in the know, BT21 is a special line of characters created by the members of BTS with the help of LINE Friends. There are cartoons with the characters, as well as LOTS of merchandise. Each BT21 character was created by an individual member of BTS, and each has its own look, likes and dislikes, and personality. ©BT21 McDonald’s has officially confirmed that the next Happy Meal will include BT21 figures. So you’ll have a chance to collect them all, including Tata, Mang, Chimmy, RJ, Koya, Cooky, Shooky, and Van. So let’s just say I’ll be making a lot of trips to McDonald’s as soon as these are released on July 14th. ©McDonald’s Collectors will be able to grab 10 different toys, with one being a poster and a sticker roll. Here’s a look at the toys: ©McDonald’s So ARMY, you know what to do: head to McDonald’s and grab some Happy Meals on July 14th. We’ll keep an eye out for more Happy Meal toy reveals, so stay tuned to DFB for more. August is right around the corner and there are some pretty important changes coming to the Magic Kingdom. Main Street, U.S.A. From new decor to special-ticketed events to ongoing closures and refurbishments, we’ve got it all covered! Here’s everything you need to know if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom in August! Get Ready For The Fall Decorations This year may be the earliest guests see fall decorations being displayed around the Magic Kingdom. Because the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party start date is the earliest it has ever been, you may start to see those Mickey pumpkin heads and fall leaves being displayed in the first couple of days of the month. Disney typically starts slowly putting out decor starting in August, with everything out by the first party night, and since the first party night is in the first week of August, you can expect Magic Kingdom to be decked out in fall decor by then. Fall Decor at The Confectionary A MAJOR Change Hits Disney World NEXT MONTH! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Begins Speaking of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, there are NINE days in August when the party will take place — August 7th, 11th, 14th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 25th, 28th, and 30th. On these days, the Magic Kingdom will close to regular day guests at 6 PM. In the past, these days were the best to visit this park if you don’t have a party ticket because it tends to be less crowded! Guests attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party will be able to enter the park starting at 4 PM, with the party running from 7 PM until 12 AM. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Tickets for this event in August cost from $129 to $159 per ticket, depending on the day you choose. And tickets are already selling out (August 11th and 14th are already sold out), so be sure to buy them as soon as possible to ensure you can go! Personally, this is my favorite special-ticketed event in Disney World! Jack Skellington and Sally at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Every SOLD OUT Date For Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Extended Evening Hours One of the biggest benefits of staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort Hotel is access to Extended Evening Hours. On select nights each month, Magic Kingdom remains open for an additional TWO HOURS for eligible guests after closing to regular day guests. The perk is exclusively for guests staying in Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and several other participating hotels. Eligible guests can enjoy extra time in the park with shorter wait times at many popular attractions. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Participating resorts include: Disney Deluxe Resorts Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Disney’s Beach Club Resort Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Disney’s Contemporary Resort Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village Disney’s Beach Club Villas Disney’s BoardWalk Villas Disney’s Old Key West Resort Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows Disney’s Riviera Resort Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – A Disney Vacation Club Resort (The extended evening theme park hours benefit applies to Disney Vacation Club Cabins only.) The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Other Select Hotels Walt Disney World Swan Hotel Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel Walt Disney World Swan Reserve Shades of Green® on Walt Disney World Resort TRON Lightcycle / Run at night The dates for extended evening hours in Magic Kingdom in August include: Wednesday, August 5th from 10 PM to 12 AM Wednesday, August 12th from 1o PM to 12 AM Wednesday, August 19th from 10 PM to 12 AM Space Mountain Queue FULL LIST of Disney World Extended Evening Hours Dates and Theme Parks for 2026 Ongoing Refurbishments Two attractions/areas will continue to be closed for refurbishment in the month of August — Big Top Souvenirs in Fantasyland and Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland. Big Top Souvenirs Big Top Souvenirs — the souvenir and snack shop located in Storybook Circus in Fantasyland, continues to remain closed for refurbishment with plans to open later this year. Although the gift shop remains closed, the character meet-and-greet location (Pete’s Silly Sideshow) recently reopened for guests to meet Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy. Instead of exiting through Big Top Souvenirs after you meet them, you will be guided toward a hallway down the left side of the building to exit. Big Top Souvenirs Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress On July 6th, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed for a lengthy refurbishment, which means it will not be operational in August. As technological advances continued, the attraction was becoming a bit outdated. Its upcoming reimagining will take guests on a journey through the 1960s, the 1980s, the new millennium, and a possible future, all beginning with an introductory scene featuring Walt Disney himself. The updated attraction is expected to reopen sometime in 2027. Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress We NEED to Know. Will Disney Fix This Major Carousel of Progress Problem During Its Closure? Ongoing Construction The construction of a new land in Magic Kingdom just surpassed a year, and it’s still going strong. The Rivers of America permanently closed last July to make way for Piston Peak, a new themed land inspired by Pixar’s Cars. The expansion will feature two brand-new attractions: an exciting off-road rally race adventure and a family-friendly ride designed for younger racers. While Disney has not yet announced an opening date, we’ll be sure to share the details as soon as they’re released! Piston Peak Construction Now that you’re prepared with everything going on in Magic Kingdom this August, it’s time to start planning your itinerary, especially thinking about where you want to eat! And since there are so many restaurants in Disney World, it can be HARD to choose just a few! There’s a NEW nighttime spectacular at Universal Orlando! Fireworks time! It was announced recently that Epic Universe would be getting a new nighttime spectacular! Since the park opened in May 2025, it has offered a fountain show in the evenings, but now there will be fireworks, music, lights, and MORE. We’re here to check it out, so come along with us! The new show premiered to the public on the evening of Tuesday, July 7th, and we were invited by Universal to come check it out. It’s called Universal Celestial Goodnight, and it shows nightly at park close. Celestial Goodnight Universal describes it by saying, “Universal Celestial Goodnight transforms Celestial Park into a breathtaking spectacle featuring nearly 600 synchronized light fixtures, over 350 larger-than-life fountains, seven million LED lights, and a high-energy musical score.” It highlights the adventures of the park’s five portals with theme music to match. It’s 9 minutes long, which we thought was a great length. Because it’s a short show, we would expect shorter crowds in the future. For opening night, there were a lot of people, but we wouldn’t be surprised if that changes in the future. MASSIVE fireworks Since it’s a short show, the best way we can describe this is as a finale to your day. It’s not quite a full nighttime spectacular but a roundup after a fun day in the parks, and you can leave with a little extra magic. There were way more fireworks than we were expecting! All the portals were represented, too. Look at those colors The fireworks were sharp and almost crisp and SO big! When we talked to guests after the show, everyone seemed to really enjoy it and was happy they spent the time at the end of the day to watch it. If there’s a ride that you haven’t been able to get on till the end of the day, you might want to ride one of those more unique experiences, but we think staying for a 9-minute show is totally worth it. Every portal got a shoutout During the fireworks, we saw the wait times at their lowest they had been all day, so if you were waiting for a certain ride, it could be a great time to ride. This show isn’t meant to be a massive spectacular, but instead just a small finale, and remember all of the great things you did today. So stunning All of Celestial Park lit up, and it felt so immersive. While the best seats are probably around the lagoon to see the fountains, we’re excited to try out different angles since we felt everything wrapped around us. The fireworks were amazing, but knock the fountains — they were massive and incredible! We loved the water features We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop with any more park changes at Epic Universe. We’ve got a major heads-up for anyone planning to make their Disney World dining reservations tomorrow! Tramonto Cocktail at Topolino’s Terrace Whether it’s a major holiday or a long weekend, most holidays tend to bring some serious CROWDS to Disney World! But don’t forget, it’s not just during the trip itself that the increased traffic can impact you — upcoming holidays can also make it more difficult to book reservations while you’re still in the planning stages of your vacation! Are you planning to visit Disney World on Labor Day this year? If so, this warning is for you! Breakfast at Crystal Palace Advance Dining Reservations in Disney World open up to all guests 60 days in advance of the meal. Since Labor Day falls on September 7th this year, that means dining reservations for Labor Day will be available for all guests to book starting TOMORROW, July 9th! Skull Bar at The Beak and Barrel Labor Day is typically a popular holiday at Disney World. Since it falls on a Monday, the parks get both a lot of people visiting just for the long weekend, and another big batch of travelers visiting for the whole week. Between the overlap of those two groups coming and going, plus local Annual Passholders coming to enjoy their day off, Labor Day itself is typically SUPER busy! Space 220 Keep in mind that Disney World Resort hotel guests may make reservations up to 60 days in advance, plus the length of their stay, up to 10 days. (So, 60 days before the first day of your stay, you can make reservations for the entire trip, even for days that are more than 60 days out.) With that in mind, if you’ll be staying in a Disney World hotel during Labor Day but arrive before the holiday itself, you can already make your Labor Day dining reservations now. That could be a HUGE leg up ahead of everyone else staying off-property, so be sure to make your reservations today if you fall into that category! The Hollywood Brown Derby If you’re not staying at a Disney World hotel, OR you are but arrive on Labor Day, remember that dining reservations for the holiday open tomorrow morning, and popular spots will book up FAST with the increased crowds. Dining reservations open online as early as 6:00 AM ET, and we recommend signing in to your My Disney Experience account at least 15 minutes before then to make sure you’re ready to go! Making Dining Reservations ©Disney Our top tip for increasing your chances of getting your top choices is to make a list of your highest-priority reservations ahead of time, and start with those first. Keep in mind that places like character meals, signature restaurants, and new locations often tend to be among the first places to book up, so be EXTRA diligent about prioritizing those if they’re on your list! The Evil Queen at Story Book Dining with Snow White Sending good vibes to everyone getting ready to snag those Labor Day reservations bright and early tomorrow morning! We’ve seen some pretty incredible Disney souvenirs in both Disney World and Disneyland, but let’s face it, some of the BEST souvenirs are sold in Disney’s international parks. We’re still going nuts over some of the popcorn buckets we’ve seen at Tokyo Disney Resort, after all. Castle of Magical Dreams at Hong Kong Disneyland Disneyland Paris has also dropped some pretty amazing souvenirs. However, we think the BEST souvenir we’ve seen might just be one that just dropped at Hong Kong Disneyland…and just wait until you see it. We love this idea and really think this would fit in well at Pixar Pier Games area, so if you can take a hint, Disney? HINT HINT! We’ll keep an eye out for more unique Disney souvenirs, so stay tuned to DFB for more. In case you didn’t know, there is an absolutely gorgeous theme park hidden in the Smoky Mountains, and it’s owned by Dolly Parton! Showstreet! Yes, we’re talking about Dollywood! We recently stopped by this theme park to check it out, and it’s safe to say we’ve fallen in love. There are tons of things to enjoy about the theme park, like that iconic cinnamon bread, but there’s also one major warning you need to know about before heading into the park! There are so many things we love about Dollywood. The classic, kind atmosphere, the amazing employees, the delicious food, and those exciting rides all come to mind. That being said, there’s one thing about the park that most people struggle with and don’t love, per se. Welcome to Dollywood! That would be the hills. Dollywood is located in the Smoky Mountains — literally! As you explore the theme park, you’ll go up hills, down into valleys, and more. Dollywood is approximately 160 to 165 acres. For comparison, Magic Kingdom is roughly 142 acres, so not a massive difference! You might think you can handle a 10-mile day in Dollywood easily, because you’ve done it in Magic Kingdom. Trust us when we say it is much harder in Dollywood! Dollywood tickets The theme park’s beauty does rely on its natural surroundings, so we love the fact that it’s in the mountains. That being said, it can be pretty difficult if you haven’t walked up hills in a while. Most of the lands try to do their best to keep things flat once you’re in them. It’s getting to and from each land can be difficult. Showstreet! The most difficult part of the walk around Dollywood is easily getting into Timber Canyon. Dollywood is laid out kinda like a circle (with a few areas that branch off). When you first enter the park on Showstreet, you can turn left and go straight to Timer Canyon. This is easily the highest hill in the park. Midway up, you realize just how steep this path actually is. If you’re a big coaster person, going left is a great option to get to a majority of the roller coasters in the park, but it can be difficult if you’re not prepared. Timber Canyon You can always go right and end your day at Timber Canyon so you can go down the hill rather than going up it, but that does mean most of the park’s roller coasters might have a longer line by the time you get there. If you’d like to go to the County Fair or into The Village, you’ll also find some steep hills to get there. You can see the hill here at the end of Showstreet! We aren’t joking when we say the beautiful rolling hills are unavoidable throughout the park. Some are worse (like getting into Timber Canyon) than others, but they aren’t totally avoidable. If you’re someone who has trouble getting around theme parks and you’ve used a wheelchair for assistance before, consider trying out an ECV rental. It would take some serious muscles to push an adult in a wheelchair around the parks. This is also a good reminder to not weigh down your stroller too much, either, unless you’re looking for an excellent arm workout. So beautiful! If you’re someone who loves burning calories or just staying extra active, you will love this aspect of the theme park. If you like a more leisurely stroll, you might want to practice a bit before you go into Dollywood. The water park, Splash Country, also has the same issue, so bring some good shoes for lots of support. The park is so beautiful We truly enjoyed our time in Dollywood, and we already can’t wait to go back! This time, we might start hiking in advance to stay prepared. Be sure to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more theme parks, tips, and tricks. 8 Rules Every Disney Adult Will Break in Dollywood Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! We know we sing the praises of Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom often. Not only is the quality of food always stellar, but this is also where you can get some of the best churros in Disney World. We also love the relaxing atmosphere and chill vibes. The only kind of bees we want in our drink Well, we just recently visited Nomad Lounge again and grabbed some things off the menu to try. So we’re back with another review to let you know what we thought of everything. So let’s get to it. We started with a drink, The Pachyderm and the Pollinator, which Nomad Lounge released in honor of Earth Month (although it hung around a little longer). It’s made with Hendricks Gins, purple honey simple syrup, lemon juice, soda water, and lavender bitters for $15.50. The name takes inspiration from the connection between elephants and bees, and proceeds from the drink go to a charity to help elephants. Many of these drinks taste the same, very floral, but this one was more complex and balanced. The lavender didn’t taste fake and added just enough floral elements that combined well with the sweetness of the honey and the sharpness of the gin. The Pachyderm and the Pollinator For food, we ordered the Wild Mushroom Dumplings, a plant-based dish with dim sum sauce, chili crunch, and roasted mushrooms for $14. This may be one of the best plant-based options in all of Disney World and one of the best plates we’ve had at Nomad Lounge. You will have to appreciate the earthy taste and texture of mushrooms, though, because both are very present. The dumplings were perfectly cooked, making them nice and soft enough to get a satisfying bite. Wild Mushroom Dumplings The sauce had a beautiful blend of savoriness and saltiness. We pretty much inhaled these they were so good. If you love mushrooms, get them. You don’t even have to be a plant-based eater to appreciate these dumplings. If you are, though, you need to RUN to Nomad Lounge ASAP to order these. The perfect dumpling Finally, we ordered the Grilled Beef Kefta for $17, which is a Middle Eastern-inspired beef skewer with harissa hummus, herb-honey yogurt, pickled red onions, and roasted garlic naan. The flavors were so intentional, in a way that a lot of Disney food is missing. Harissa is such a lovely spice that’s mild with heat, as well as aromatic and robust. The hummus was so creamy and perfect, while the beef was beautifully ground with a wonderful fine texture. Grilled Beef Kefta You also get naan, and the server suggested that we pull a bit of beef off the skewer and then put it in the naan and eat it like a little taco. And, well, that was the BEST suggestion because it was so tasty. The herb-honey yogurt added a nice cooling element to the whole that balanced out the spices. This is one of those dishes that’s just perfect for Nomad Lounge. All the elements work so well together So, again, we just had an incredible meal at Nomad Lounge, and still so many folks really sleep on this place. But we’ll continue to sing its praises. We’ll also continue to eat our way around Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more reviews. When Disneyland Park opened to the public in 1955, it was overcrowded. Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland 15,000 people were expected on opening day, which was initially supposed to be an invite-only preview event. However, nearly 28,000 people showed up. Counterfeit tickets and people charging visitors to climb a ladder to get into the park over the back fence made for an absolute fiasco. Opening day may have been a bit of a mess (to the point that it was nicknamed “Black Sunday”) but those guests got to experience something that over one billion people have now done…enjoy the magic that is Disneyland Park! Yep, that’s right! One billion people have now officially visited Disneyland Park from all around the world. During a recent visit to the park, a young boy named Andres Robles from Arizona was selected as the honorary one billionth guest. He and his family participated in a ceremony on the train station that revealed a new sign to mark the milestone. ©Disney After the ceremony, Andres and his family snapped some photos with Mickey and Minnie, the Disneyland Ambassadors, and Disneyland President Jill Estorino. They were then gifted with a VIP tour guide for the day so that they could visit historic backstage areas (like Walt Disney’s apartment), as well as do popular attractions. ©Disney Disneyland Park reaches this milestone just days before its 71st birthday on July 17th. Over the past 71 years, the park has expanded to a full-blown resort with three hotels, the Downtown Disney district, and a second park, Disney California Adventure. Dozens of rides and attractions have been added, new character meets have been introduced, and visitors from all over the world have made memories in this park. What a legacy! ©Disney There’s more expansion and fun on the horizon as well, and we can’t wait to see what happens before the two billionth guest visits. The park truly lives up to Walt Disney’s idea that “Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world.” ©Disney We’ll keep you in the loop with more Disneyland Resort news and updates. The Fourth of July celebration was a big one this year, as America celebrated its 250th anniversary! We’re sure it was an amazing celebration wherever you were, but there was something special about being at Disneyland Resort. 250th Celebration Dipped Mickey Bar Everyone loves a classic Mickey Bar when at the Disney Parks. It’s one of, if not THE, most iconic snacks at Disney. Well, Disneyland completely changed the beloved Disney treat for July 4th, and we couldn’t pass up on it. Does this hold up to the icon that the Mickey Bar is? We got thoughts for you! We recently went to Disney California Adventure for the 250th celebration, and we spotted a brand-new patriotic version of the Mickey Bar. It’s called the 250th Celebration Dipped Mickey Bar, and it’s available for $7.99. We grabbed ours at Clarabelle’s Hand Scooped Ice Cream. New Mickey Bar! The treat is your classic Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar. However, this one has half of it dipped in white chocolate and coated with red, white, and blue sprinkles. 250th Celebration Dipped Mickey Bar We have absolutely nothing bad to say about a white chocolate and milk chocolate dipped Mickey bar! Of course, you’d look at it and think this is bound to be delicious, and that is correct. We love the white chocolate on this Mickey Bar. It’s a great addition that we honestly wish could be a full-time thing. This is delicious! It’s super sweet and refreshing on a hot summer day in California. Add in those crunchy festive sprinkles, and you undoubtedly have yourself a delicious sweet treat in the parks. You get a lot for the cost of the treat, too. It’s great value (which isn’t something we say about a lot of treats), and it’s definitely worth the price with the addition of the white chocolate and sprinkles. This is a perfect 5/5, making an already beloved sweet treat even BETTER! It’s not a huge change, but it is a good one for a limited time. We wish this was here forever! Here at Disney Food Blog, we are always discussing the Orlando International Airport. If you are planning to visit Disney World, this huge airport with iconic green carpet is likely the first stop of your trip. ©Orlando Business Journal However, today we are going to be discussing a smaller local airport near the Orlando area. The Kissimmee Gateway Airport is the municipal airport for the city of Kissimmee, but it might be getting much bigger very soon! According to the Orlando Business Journal, the Kissimmee Gateway Airport has received preliminary approval from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to build a customs facility that will allow it to have international flights. The agreement was made through the U.S Customs and Border Protection’s User Fee Facility Program, which allows small airports to apply for customs and immigration services. In the terms of the agreement, any airports approved for the program must start construction on the new customs facilities within three years of approval. Although it looks like the Kissimmee Airport will be moving even quicker than that! ©Orlando Business Journal The airport is aiming to start the construction process in 2027 and be ready for passengers within the next two years. This airport does not offer scheduled passenger service or normal ticketed passenger flights. Instead, it offers private, corporate, and charter air travel, so this would allow for those passengers to travel internationally when right now they may only travel within the United States. ©Google Maps (Kissimmee Gateway Airport) Kissimmee Director of Aviation Shaun Germolus said in a news release, “We know we have missed economic opportunities, and we understand what the impact of this designation can truly be. The growth in international tourism traffic from markets like Brazil and Argentina is real, and Kissimmee Gateway Airport is positioned to capture it.” ©Adobe (City of Kissimmee) These new international flight options may also bring more jobs and business partnerships to the city of Kissimmee. We cannot wait to see what this expansion means for the future of the Kissimmee Gateway Airport, and stay tuned with Disney Food Blog so you never miss any travel news! We talk a lot about different food options around Disney World, and while you might be thinking about the parks, you shouldn’t skip some amazing dining options right at your hotel. All wrapped up in a waffle We’re heading to The Paddock Grill at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort. This food stand is right by the pool, making it the perfect stop on a relaxing hotel day. Check out the Chicken-Bacon Waffle Cone with sriracha hot honey and pickles for $10.29. Gorgeous! Yep, we’re totally obsessed. It really packed a punch! The pickles were spicy and crispy, which helped add to the heat from the hot honey. Because there’s nothing to cool down the spice, make sure you have a cup of water nearby. Everything in one bite The chicken tenders were well cooked and stayed crispy, even with the hot honey sauce on them. The heat that lingers is at a medium, and you can taste it on your lips after each bite. If you’re totally against spice, you probably won’t love this one, but if you don’t mind getting some heat in, you’ll really like this. Paddock Grill The waffle is cooked exactly how we like it, with that crispy exterior and fluffy inside. It’s the same batter as your classic Mickey waffles. The waffle is slightly sweet and helps cut some of the spice, but not as much as you might be hoping. We think adults are totally going to love this, but kids might want to stick with the Mickey waffles. Right by the pool For $10, we also thought this was a pretty good size, too. You can share it for a quick snack before heading to your dining reservation or have it for a solid lunch option. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more food reviews you need to know before your next Disney World trip.
