Hello from D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa! The Disney Parks Blog team is soaking up every second of this year’s festivities, from shopping on the show floor to showcasing our favorite moments and announcements. And as day two kicks off, we are recapping everything you need to know about one of the most highly-anticipated events – Mousequerade: The Ultimate Disney Costume Contest presented by AT&T. The costume contest has wrapped up, and our team was in the room where it happens so that we could share more about the winners, judges’ reactions, and of course, some pretty impressive Disney Parks-inspired attire. What is Mousequerade? Since the first official contest in 2015, Mousequerade has brought together some of the most crafty and creative Disney fans to sew off their stylish skills. It is a celebration of fandom and fashion, and how when those two worlds combine, truly magical things can happen. Cosplayers are invited to step into the spotlight and debut one-of-a-kind designs, often bringing deep-cut Disney characters, worlds, and attractions to life in imaginative and innovative ways. Some fun facts about the Mousequerade entry requirements: Costumes must be an original, handmade design and cannot be a purchased or professionally made costume. Costume must fit through a standard door (80” h x 36” w) when not fully worn. Use of innovation and technology in costumes are encouraged (think digital design, 3D printing, even animated effects or interactive elements) Submissions closed back in April for the contest, and today the top-scoring Single Category entrants and Group Category entries took to the stage for an unforgettable display of Disney-inspired artistry. Finalists were judged based on a combination of criteria: Craftsmanship of Costume(s), Originality of Costume(s), Use of Color and Materials, Execution of Storytelling, Creative Use of Disney, and On Stage Presentation: 25%. Host Nina West alongside judges Ashley Eckstein, Bobby Kim, and Yvette Nicole Brown kept the energy onstage positive and audience vibe high as they oohed and aahed over this year’s lavish looks. In the Audience at Mousequerade Audience members excitedly entered the Premiere Stage space as the day was just getting started, many of them also dressed in eye-catching costumes. In addition to Disney Princess characters, Super Heroes, and Disney Channel icons, we saw lots of Disney Parks-inspired ensembles, like the Hatbox Ghost from The Haunted Mansion and even the hanging stained glass light fixtures found at places like Refreshment Corner. Even those not in full cosplay subtly showed off their Disney fandom with accents like bag charms, ear headbands, and graphic tees. As participants were invited to share their custom creations, Nina West kicked things off with a dazzling Broadway-style musical number. Disney Legend Jodi Benson even made a surprise appearance halfway through, gushing “I absolutely adore this event!” We were then introduced to this year’s judges, who had already met with the competitors backstage to get an up-close look at their work. “I was blown away by the talent, the creativity, the individuality,” said first-time judge Bobby Kim, VP, Global Creative Director of Disney Consumer Products. They are tasked with selecting contestants to take home the crown in the categories of solo entries, cast of characters, and innovation and technology. And then it’s up to those in the crowd to select the winner for the audience choice award! As the show began, it was so special seeing the hard work of the contestants truly come to life, as we learned fun facts about their process and pieces. Some had glow in the dark accents, recycled materials, or hand dyed fabrics, while others boasted programmable lights, inflatable elements, and onstage transformations. One design alone had 30,000 crystals and 500 LED lights! From unique mashups and reimagining of classic characters to designs pulled straight from the screen or Disney Parks, the lineup was full of surprises. Disney Parks-Inspired Costumes at Mousequerade It feels fitting that the winning costume in the solo category was inspired by a beloved Disneyland park attraction, the King Arthur Carrousel. This is one of the original opening day attractions at the park from 1955, and most of its horses date back more than 90 years. “A Jest of a Carrousel Ride” beautifully captured the attraction’s charm, history, and craftsmanship with a corseted top paired with an intricate skirt and puffed sleeves. This costume, made by Julieanna Trinidade, also took home the recognition for innovation and use of technology, because of the rotating headpiece and motorized 3-D printed horse. It was a magnificent creation, and sweet love letter to a timeless attraction that perfectly incorporated modern techniques and technologies. Some of the materials used in creating today’s costumes: Satin Taffeta Sequins Rhinestones Shells Velvet Burlap Foam Denim Polymer Clay Vinyl Feathers There were other entries that transported the audience right to Disney Parks, like the Disney’s Alice in Wonderland design inspired by the work of Mary Blair, who worked with Disney on multiple attractions and is known for her whimsical, child-like art style. This couture design had a hand-painted skirt with velvet, satin, and silk among the materials used, and made us feel like we had fallen right down the rabbit hole. Another standout entry was “The Auctioneer and the Redhead,” which brought to life two of the most memorable Audio-Animatronics figures from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. The Auctioneer and Redd took to the stage, even posing and moving in a manner that mimicked what guests see as they sail past the scene during the dark ride. There’s actually a Redd limited-edition doll available here during D23 2026, and we have everything you need to know about this fierce pirate! The winner of the audience choice award, presented by Jodi Benson, had ties to Disney Parks as well, and was clearly a fan-favorite pick. “To Pizza and Beyond” introduced the duo of Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, but with a tasty twist. The two entered the stage disguised as a burger box and drink cup from Pizza Planet, which is featured in the film and exists at Disneyland park as Alien Pizza Planet, a quick-service restaurant serving up pizza, pasta, and themed sweet treats. There are still plenty of stylish surprises in store at D23 2026! Disney World is home to SO MANY beautiful resort hotels, and even more are on their way! Coronado Springs With over 30 hotels, it can be hard to choose where to stay. But the best part about these hotels is that you don’t have to be staying there to visit them! There are some we’d actually rather not stay at and just enjoy without the expense of staying over. For us, there is one specific answer to the following question: Which Disney resort is better for visiting than staying? Now, this answer may come as a shock because we’re always singing our praises about it, but the truth is, most of the time we’d rather just visit it. Our answer mainly comes down to a few things: dining options, atmosphere, location, cost, and room size. Bringing all of those factors together, the Disney resort we’d rather visit than spend a night at is Disney’s Riviera Resort. Chip at Disney’s Riviera Resort Let’s break down the factors that led us here… Dining Options One of the plus sides of this resort is its incredible dining locations, and you don’t need to be staying here to try them! Le Petit Cafe Named after the venue featured in the 1970 classic The Aristocats, Le Petit Cafe offers pastries and specialty coffees during the day and turns to offering light bites and cocktails in the evening. This dining location is a MUST for us whenever we’re in the area, and we particularly love their Almond Cold Brew and Raspberry Brioche! They are open from 6:30 AM to 9 PM each day. Le Petit Cafe Bar Riva Bar Riva is Riviera’s pool bar, but it’s not like any other Disney resort pool bar — this one is a lot more elevated. They offer covered seating with table service and quite a hefty menu of Mediterranean dishes. On the menu, you’ll find salads, pita, a burger, pasta, and even a seasonal pizza, as well as a few shareable plates. And the dessert is really where Bar Riva shines because they have a delicious Warm Cookie Skillet topped with gelato! This location is open from 11 AM to 10 PM each day. Riviera Cookie Skillet Primo Piatto Riveria’s quick-service location is on the ground level of the resort. We LOVE this dining location because they have so many different options — all of which are delicious — and a Coke Freestyle machine, so there is a plethora of drinks to choose from! Guests can find classic dishes, like chicken tenders or pizza, but they can also find more adventurous dishes, like the Croque Monsieur and the Mediterranean salad. Though it’s seen some price increases recently, we’d still go out of our way to grab a quick lunch or dinner here! They are open from 7 AM to 11 PM every day. Primo Piatto Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera The table-service restaurant at the Riviera offers two unique dining options — a character-dining breakfast with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy, and a more sophisticated dinner without the characters. It is located on the rooftop of the Riviera, so the fireworks view from here is spectacular. This dining location is open from 7:30 AM to 12:15 PM for breakfast and 5 PM to 9:30 PM for dinner each day. Topolino’s Terrace Atmosphere The atmosphere of the Riviera is also absolutely stunning. The resort itself is inspired by Europe, and you can see that through the architecture and the decor throughout the resort. The vibes are extremely welcoming and relaxing, so it’s perfect for a resort day away from the chaos of the Disney parks. Riviera Resort Lobby But it wouldn’t be a Disney resort without those magical touches. Walking to and from the Disney Skyliner, guests can walk under a tunnel featuring several Disney mosaic murals — one from Peter Pan and one from Tangled! These are absolutely jaw-dropping and add so much Disney magic to the already beautiful resort. Peter Pan Mural at Disney’s Riviera Resort Location One of the best parts of the Riviera is its location. The resort is located along the Skyliner route, meaning it’s just a ride away from EPCOT and a transfer away from Hollywood Studios. So, if you’re visiting the resort and want to take a quick trip to one of these parks, it’s easy-peasy! The Skyliner also has access to Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop Century Resort, and Art of Animation Resort. Skyliner Station at Disney’s Riviera Resort Cost Here’s where staying here becomes the downfall. It’s quite costly to stay here, especially if you have a longer stay. Since this resort falls into the Deluxe Villa category, it can cost roughly $500 per night to stay here during off-peak seasons, and that’s at the cheapest rate. Staying here during the holidays and in the summer can increase the price immensely — we’re talking about $1,000 a night or more. Disney’s Riviera Resort Room Size And the thing that really sealed the deal for visiting over staying at this resort was the room size. For the amount you’re paying to stay here, the room is severely undersized. It is much smaller than the other Deluxe Resorts, so you won’t have as much room to spread out. Model of Deluxe Studio at Disney’s Riviera Resort Taking all of those factors into consideration, visiting this resort is a MUCH better option than staying here. The only thing you’re really missing out on if you don’t stay here is Early Entry, Extended Evening Hours, and the fact that you can check another Disney hotel off of your list. Lorcana is a super popular Disney-themed trading card game. Your favorite Disney heroes and villains are being attacked, and it’s up to you to save them! The game features iconic Disney characters like Mickey and Friends and princesses, but has expanded to include recent hits like Monsters, Inc. and Turning Red. We love Lorcana! At D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney just announced that Lorcana is coming back to a popular Disney World festival. That’s right, you can get MORE Lorcana cards at the 2027 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts! Following the success of last year’s activities, Disney Lorcana TCG is returning to the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts in 2027. Back in 2026, you could get free cards for completing a scavenger hunt quest around the park. You could pick up a Festival Questbook for the “Ink and Find” adventure that had us walking around EPCOT looking for larger-than-life trading cards. It’s a scavenger hunt for giant Lorcana cards all throughout World Showcase! Found Stitch! When you’d found all the giant cards, you’d get a limited-edition Magical Places promo card. Disney didn’t confirm which specific events will return, but festival events don’t typically change much from year to year. Does this mean we can get even more free Lorcana cards in 2027?!? Lorcana cards And for the first time ever, Figment will be highlighted on a Disney Lorcana TCG card! Creative Inspiration is an Action card that allows you to draw 4 cards at an Ink Cost of 7. It’s officially D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, which means hundreds of thousands of Disney fans are congregating in Anaheim, California, for major Disney news. We love pin trading! But there’s one frequently overlooked D23 activity that we try to participate in at every expo: pin trading. If you’re also pin trading at D23, you NEED to follow these 10 rules! If you’re a new pin trader, you’re probably wondering what pins you can trade at D23 in the first place. D23 says that the main criteria to judge if a pin is an official Disney pin is that it’s metal, with a “©Disney” symbol on the back. Your pins should be in good, tradeable condition, and you can only trade one pin at a time with the backing included. Pins at EPCOT! Pins from divisions of The Walt Disney Company like ABC or ESPN are tradeable at D23. Pins from operating partners that show a Disney affiliation, like Disney, Disneyland, or Walt Disney World text, are also tradeable. Plastic pins, rubber pins, and other non-metal pins, plus brooches and clasp pins, are not accepted! Muppets Pins If you’re trading with Cast Members, you can only trade a maximum of two pins per Cast Member all day. You shouldn’t touch a Cast Member or guest’s lanyard or pin display, but instead ask if they can bring it towards you for a closer look. Additionally, when trading with a Cast Member, you should offer a pin that isn’t currently displayed to avoid duplicates. Time to trade! While checking out the rules, we also noticed some funny ones that we don’t normally see! One said “Trading of concession stand hot dogs and personal shoes is prohibited” and another said, “Trading with Stormtroopers and Maleficent should be done at your own risk.” You have to follow these rules at D23! We know when The Mandalorian and Grogu are dropping on Disney+, and it’s sooner than you think! The Mandalorian and Grogu Disney just announced the Disney+ release date of the latest installment in the Star Wars universe, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Get those calendars out, because we’re booking off a movie night next month! Next month, fans can join new missions taken on by the beloved Star Wars duo, as The Mandalorian and Grogu will begin streaming exclusively on Disney+ on September 2nd. Mando and Grogu’s first feature film will be added to the bounty hunter’s collection of content on the streaming platform, joining the Disney+ exclusive series, The Mandalorian. ©Disney That’s not all the Mandalorian content dropping on Disney+ next month! Lucasfilm also announced the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Official Podcast, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this summer’s theatrical release, will go live on Disney+ on September 2nd at 6:00 PM PT. The podcast will have two episodes: Episode 1: Growing Up, and Episode 2: Bigger & Different. ©Disney Guests on the podcast will include director/co-writer/producer Jon Favreau, Lucasfilm President and CCO Dave Filoni, Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, and the on-screen stars of the film, Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver. Even Grogu is going to stop by for a special appearance. An all-new animated special from Lucasfilm, LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian, will also debut exclusively on Disney+ on September 2nd, 2026. This is said to be a comedic retelling of all three seasons of The Mandalorian. It will revisit stories from the series in new and unexpected ways for families and young audiences to enjoy. ©Disney Speaking of Star Wars, we were excited to hear more about the next movie in the franchise, Star Wars: Starfighter, while at the Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Event. The movie will be directed by Shawn Levy and is written by George Lucas and Jonathan Tropper. It’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we’re so excited for all the new Disney Park news and updates that will be announced this weekend. But there’s one land that we’re super excited for: Magic Kingdom‘s Piston Peak National Park! Welcome to Piston Peak! We just got a major sneak peek of a brand-new original character coming to Piston Peak! As you move through the queue for the new rally race attraction, you’ll be introduced to a new character: Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. (This is a nod to Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, the park ranger from Disney’s Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck cartoons.) An animatronic of Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore will be featured in a pre-show, where he’ll tell you about the history of Piston Peak and its folklore, which Disney has promised we’ll learn more about later. Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore ©Disney We just got a new rendering of Ranger at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event! Disney confirmed that he’ll be a full audio-animatronic figure in the pre-show of the Rally Racers ride. It’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and Disney just displayed a full 3D model of Magic Kingdom‘s most anticipated new land: Piston Peak National Park. Piston Peak Model at D23 2026 We were super excited to get a look at the new rides coming to Cars Land, but being Disney Food Blog, we had to live up to our name and report on the restaurants coming to Piston Peak National Park! This model of the land is pretty big, but a small detail caught our eye! This lonely little shed is technically inside Piston Peak, but if you look at the tracks in the water behind it, that’s Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the wooden bridge between them is still at Magic Kingdom. What could this be? But what used to be at that same location? The snack stand Westward Ho! This unlabeled building is likely a snack stand to replace the now-closed spot. Westward Ho Does this mean we can get Frozen Lemonade and our beloved Bacon Pecan Cinnamon Roll at Cars Land soon?!? We hope so! Bacon Pecan Cinnamon Roll from Westward Ho Additionally, there might be a second quick-service spot in Piston Peak National Park. This little blue truck has an awning like a food truck with a line of people outside. Could a food truck be coming to Cars Land, too? We think it’s likely! A food truck??? There are quite a few more unlabeled buildings in Piston Peak, but it’s currently unclear if Disney will add more restaurants to the dining lineup. With a land this large, it’s very likely, but Disney still hasn’t confirmed anything. Piston Peak National Park With the ultra-popular Flo’s V-8 Cafe and Cozy Cone Motel restaurants in Cars Land in Disney California Adventure, we’re hoping some popular Cars snacks will make their way to Magic Kingdom. If you’re visiting Disney World and considering staying off property, your best bet might just be the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, especially if you’re a member of Marriott Bonvoy and want to earn and use rewards during your vacation. Tipsy Swan However, you might be wondering about some of the dining options available at the Swan Reserve. Well, not only do you have all of the restaurants at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin at your disposal, as well as EPCOT-area resort restaurants, but you have some options at the Swan Reserve, too, including Stir, the hotel’s lobby bar and lounge. Atmosphere As we previously mentioned, Stir is the bar and lounge in the lobby at the Swan Reserve. You’ll see it between some columns and some tropical-inspired decor. It’s tucked away in a nice, quiet spot. It’s the hotel lobby bar The setting is airy and tropical, and it’s so quiet and relaxed. The bar Although the design is rather modern, you’ll still find some throwback decor. Vintage There are tables available in the lounge area if you don’t want to sit at the bar. Lounge area Overall, the space is nice and open and includes a TV if you want to watch the latest game. However, it can get a little dark — the lighting is dim despite the large windows. There’s even a TV But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu Although this is a bar, you’ll find a menu of light bites, including bar snacks like nuts and olives, as well as appetizers like fried calamari, Mediterranean dips, and more. There is also a selection of flatbreads and entrees. For the record, AJ is a big fan of The Amare flatbread here, and has been for years. The menu Of course, this is a bar, so you’ll also find some specialty cocktails, bourbon flights, wine, and beer. Drinks To drink, we picked up the Tipsy Swan, made with Truman vodka, lime, lemon, orangecello, orange juice, simple syrup, and Combier, with a Stir Swan for $21. So we’ll admit that we just weren’t a big fan of this drink. It really didn’t have a lot of flavor, and it was very bitter. You would think with all those ingredients, it would be packed with citrus flavor, but all we really tasted was a hint of orange juice. Maybe it’s a case of TOO many ingredients canceling each other out. There it is! So let’s talk about the food! Eats First up, we grabbed the Chicken Wings for $21. These are chicken wings with Calabrian citrus barbecue sauce, toasted sesame, and green onion. These are very crispy with a nice sweet BBQ sauce on top, so if you like a sweet barbecue sauce, you’ll love this flavor. You also get quite a few, so you could easily share this as an appetizer with someone else. The chicken is well-cooked and tender. Chicken Wings We also ordered the Grilled Souvlaki. You can choose this with chicken for $39 or with filet mignon for $50. We went with chicken. You get two grilled chicken thighs, pesto, tabbouleh, tzatziki, pita bread, and harissa hummus. The chicken was cooked so well and probably the most tender chicken we’ve ever had in Disney World. The seasoning was delicious and paired really well with the tzatziki sauce on the side. Grilled Souvlaki The naan bread was nothing special, but we liked dipping it in the hummus and making little sandwiches with the chicken. This is one of those things we’d order again. Nosh or Not This Disney World bar is a must-visit if… You are staying at or near the Swan Reserve. If you’re staying at or near the hotel and looking for a drink or appetizer (or even a small meal), you’ll find plenty of options here. You want to try some unique drinks. The specialty cocktails are made by people who work at the bar, and you’ll even see their name under their drink on the menu. That gives each drink a lot of personality. You’re looking for a spot that’s open late. Stir is often open until midnight, so if you need late-night drinks or food, you’ll find it here. Skip this bar if… You’re really into Disney theming. This is basically a bar and lobby lounge, so it doesn’t really have that Disney theming you may be looking for. You want a more standard drink. If you’re looking for more classic and standard drinks, you won’t really find them here. You might just want to head to the hotel pool bar instead. You aren’t staying or visiting nearby. You probably don’t want to make a long trip across Disney World just to visit this hotel bar and lounge, so unless you’re nearby, you may not want to make the trip. Overall We were really surprised by the quality of the food here. The bartenders are also very attentive and personable, and the lounge itself is quiet and relaxed, which is nice when you’re trying to escape the noise of the theme parks. Seating is pretty tight at the bar, but there is plenty of space in the lounge area if you need to stretch out a bit. We wouldn’t go out of our way to visit Stir, but if we find ourselves in the area, we’ll definitely drop by again. D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is well underway, and Disney has made SO many movie and TV announcements! D23 2026! From sneak peeks to release dates, we’ve seen so much. However, we noticed that after the Disney Entertainment Panel, there were five movies that Disney was very quiet about last night. Disney announced everything from Frozen 3 details, Coco 2 news, Zootopia 3, the new X-Men Cast, and SO much more but these five movies were not mentioned at all, and we were shocked. The Upcoming Avatar Films Disney has previously confirmed that there will be both an Avatar 4 and an Avatar 5, which will complete the incredibly popular franchise. These movies are set to release in 2029 and 2031, respectively, and we were expecting Disney to share more details specifically about Avatar 4. However, nothing was mentioned at all during the Entertainment Showcase. ©Disney Live Action Hercules This movie has been in the works for years; it was announced back in 2020, with very few updates on the production process or even the cast. Back in 2022, the director was confirmed to be Guy Ritchie. However, there have been very few updates since. Which is why, whenever we know that Disney is making big announcements, we hope for some Hercules news. However, yet again D23 has passed without any updates on when we will actually get to see the live-action Hercules on our screens. ©Disney Avengers: Secret Wars This is the sequel to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which releases in theaters on December 18th, 2026. However, we did not receive any news about the sequel. This is not too surprising because we got a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday at D23, and Disney will most likely wait to release any news about Avengers: Secret Wars until after Doomsday premieres. ©Marvel Monsters, Inc. 3 Back in March, it was confirmed that a new Monsters, Inc. movie was on the way. However, Disney has not shared any updates on this movie since that announcement. So we were a little surprised that they were still quiet about this upcoming film during D23. Heads up, Disney fans! We just got a TON of movie news from Disney’s biggest fan event of the year, D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. D23 Entertainment Panel From sequels to live-action remakes and more, The Walt Disney Company is hard at work making even more movies for us to enjoy. There were plenty of announcements, so just in case you missed any, we’ve rounded them all up right here! The D23 Entertainment Panel just happened, and Disney sure did take advantage of the occasion to share SO much incredible news and announcements. So much information was flying around that you might have missed something, so we are recapping ALL the announcements from last night! #1 – Incredibles 3 Disney just shared all-new, never-before-seen details about our favorite superhero family. This movie is set to hit theaters June 16th, 2028. And now it’s the kids’ turn to take on their powers and become the Supers they have the potential to be. ©Pixar Check out ALL the new Incredibles 3 info right here! #2 – Coco 2 This film is set to release in 2029, and at the D23 Panel, Disney shared all new details about the plot! I can’t believe we’re talking about Christmas already, but here we are! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is just around the corner, and we want to make sure you’re prepared to tackle this special-ticketed event! Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party There is A LOT to experience in such a short amount of time at this party, so there are some tips you should follow — enter the park at 4PM, watch the second showing of the parade for fewer crowds, and get the party-exclusive snacks as opposed to the snacks available during regular park hours. BUT there’s a NEW rule you need to follow for this year’s rendition! There’s one thing that’s really inevitable when it comes to Disney World — the weather and its unpredictability. We’ve seen it before — bright and sunny one minute and torrential downpour the next, just for it to become sunny again 10 minutes later. Look at those clouds! It’ll likely rain on your Disney World vacation, more specifically during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. And if it does, there is one rule you NEED to follow — DO NOT LEAVE! Disney recently released their updated Weather Updates and Policies for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, which will likely carry over to the Christmas party. Rain at Magic Kingdom If the policies remain the same, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will continue in the event of most inclement weather. It is recommended to experience indoor offerings such as shopping, dining, or attractions. Outdoor attractions and entertainment will close, but everything else will remain operational. Space Mountain at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Speaking of entertainment, these offerings, showtimes, and experiences are subject to change without notice, and this includes in inclement weather. So, what happens when special offerings get delayed, or even worse, shut down? Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Well, in some cases, a rain check is given. We saw this last year at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party — a notification was given on the My Disney Experience app, alerting guests who attended the party that their party ticket had been converted to a 1-day park-hopper ticket. ©Disney However, this is not guaranteed, and Disney has not confirmed the rain check ticket policy yet this year. The newest update from Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party actually suggests that they will be giving out fewer rain check tickets this year, so we’d think it would be the same for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Since inclement weather is common, it’s best to be prepared if bad weather approaches. Be sure to pack some ponchos, shoe covers, umbrellas, and anything else that may keep you dry. We also recommend getting your must-dos in earlier in the night, especially if they’re outdoors and may not be available during inclement weather (outdoor attractions or live entertainment). Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks If the weather really gets bad where you’re no longer enjoying your night, you can always head over to Guest Relations across from the Town Square Theater and speak with a Cast Member. While it’s not guaranteed you will be compensated or given a rain check ticket, there is no harm in asking — the worst they can say is ‘no!’ Disney Jr. Jingle Jam But there is still SO much to do during the party if it rains, so make the best of it! Meet Santa Jack Skellington and Sally in the Town Square Theater. Grab a festive snack from an indoor dining location. Disney Adults are on the edge of their seats with excitement, and the theme park equivalent of Christmas morning is FINALLY here: The D23 Ultimate Fan Event Disney Experiences Showcase! ©Disney This year’s Horizons Disney Experiences Showcase is set for August 15th at Anaheim’s Honda Center. The panel will be hosted by legendary actor and Disney fan Neil Patrick Harris. The bi-annual event is always loaded with new Disney news, and this year will surely be no exception. There is a litany of current projects we’re hoping to hear updates on, plus our fingers crossed for some further announcements! These are some of the things we’re hoping to hear about! Magic Kingdom Construction Updates Currently, there are two major projects under construction at the Magic Kingdom: Piston Peak, the Cars-themed expansion of Frontierland… ©Disney … and the as-yet-unnamed Villains Land — based on Disney antagonists — that’s going to be built in the space “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” Villains Land ©Disney We know a bit about both projects — the former will be “an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers,” according to Disney. The land’s design will be inspired by the Rocky Mountain region of the United States, as well as the country’s national parks. In fact, the buildings in the area will be based on the National Park Service’s “Parkitecture” concept. The land will be home to two attractions, including an “off-road rally race” ride featuring custom vehicles as its primary draw. Piston Peak Construction Meanwhile, the latter is going to be home to “two major attractions, dining, and shopping on an incredibly twisted grand scale” and will feature a fluid, organic appearance with an Art Nouveau-style of construction, in a style the Imagineering design team says will blend historical components and fantastical worlds. The style has been dubbed “Conjured Architecture.” Villains Land location We’re hoping for further information on the two lands, including names and storyline information on the attractions — including clarifications on rumored changes to Villains Land’s plans under new CEO Josh D’Amaro — and perhaps even a potential opening timeline for Piston Peak, given how much further along its construction is. ©@bioreconstruct In addition to the lands, we’re also hoping to hear an opening timeline for the Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress refurbishment project, which will keep the show “relatable for today’s audiences” as the whole show is being restructured. The show will now feature a Walt Disney Audio Animatronic in the pre-show, followed by new acts based on the 1960s (itself harkening back to the decade the show originally debuted), the 1980s, the 1999-turn of the millennium, and a “possible future” that will imagine a time where “extraordinary innovation has become part of life and proves that a beautiful tomorrow is just a dream away.” ©Disney This NEW Look at Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land Makes Us Think Disney Has a Long Way To Go Monstropolis Earlier this year, Disney confirmed several MAJOR details about the Monsters, Inc.-themed Monstropolis, including that it will be set in a world following the first film, host a show in the “Glob Theater,” and be home to a full-scale recreation of Harryhausen’s restaurant! ©Disney Furthermore, the land will be themed around “H.U.M.A.N. Day.” Short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” Disney explains that through this event, which is “designed to introduce humans to life inside Monstropolis while helping monsters discover that humans are not so frightening after all,” humans are invited to, “explore the city, meet its citizens, taste unique cuisine, and step into the everyday world of monsters in a totally new way.” Via @bioreconstruct on Twitter/X One thing Disney has yet to reveal? The name, storyline, and further details about the land’s headline attraction: the decades-in-the-making suspended door coaster. So far, much of what’s been released about the coaster has been technical in nature, including the fact that the ride will use a vertical lift loading mechanism that is meant to replicate the way doors are pulled up from the ground in the film. However, we want to know its story, how it ties into H.U.M.A.N. Day, what characters will appear, and an overall timeline for the land. We definitely expect to learn more about Monstropolis at D23. ©Disney Disney World’s New Monstropolis Coaster Has Taken A BIG Step Forward! Tropical Americas Meanwhile, over at Animal Kingdom, Tropical Americas is currently rising up over the former DinoLand U.S.A. The village of Pueblo Esperanza — and its headline attractions based on Indiana Jones and Encanto — are coming together quickly and arguably look to be the closest of Disney World’s major upcoming projects to completion, at least to the naked eye. That’s why we’re hoping to see an opening timeline, and maybe even a concrete opening date for the land at D23. What’s happening at the Madrigal House? Further confirmed projects we’re hoping to hear updates on at D23 include: A specific opening date for Lakeshore Lodge, currently under construction at Disney World and scheduled to open next summer. Over on the West Coast, we’re hoping for an opening timeline for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity Defense attraction at California Adventure, as well as further updates on the Coco and Avatar attractions coming to the park. ©Disney Beyond these confirmed projects, we’re hoping Disney drops some NEW news, including on the potential updates rumored to be coming to the Magic Kingdom’s Space Mountain! Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Disney World’s Halloween party kicked off this past week in Magic Kingdom, and it was just as popular and crowded as we expected it to be! We were thoroughly impressed by the food available at this year’s party, trick-or-treating was as fun as ever (but it has changed a bit for those with allergies), and, as always, we loved the entertainment you can only see at this party each year. Crowds at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party This year, parties run on select nights from August 7th through October 31st, and tickets range from $119 to $229, plus tax, depending on what date you choose to attend. If you’re a big fan of the spooky season and want the chance to experience the park with lower crowds long after the sun goes down, this is an event you won’t want to miss. Disney Announces Details For New Halloween runDisney Race For those who love Halloween but won’t be able to make it to Disney World or Disneyland to celebrate, this new Halloween runDisney race may be perfect for you! It’s called the runDisney Virtual Spooktacular , and it includes three different races you can complete from home over the course of October. ©Disney Registration opened for the race on August 11th and sold out quick. It cost $185 for all three races, and participants will be sent their four medals in the mail — one for each race, and a fourth medal to commemorate completing the challenge of all three. If you missed it this year, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for next year’s! Disney Announces Details For Virtual Halloween runDisney Races! Major Water Outage Hits Popular Disney World Hotel This news wasn’t pleasant to share, but hey, not all news is. If you’re staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge soon, specifically in Boulder Creek, you need to know about the major water outage issues they’ve been having. Boulder Creek The water in and around the Boulder Creek Villas has been going in and out for nearly a week now. The issue started on Saturday, August 8th, and Cast Members confirmed with us earlier this week that the issue continues to affect the resort. At the time of writing, August 14th, the issue hasn’t been fully resolved, so we recommend avoiding booking at the resort for now, out of safety. Cast Members did confirm they were working to move all guests booked in Boulder Creek to new accommodations, or elsewhere around the resort, but to avoid the issue altogether, you may want to hold off booking for another time. Water Outage Hits Popular Disney World Hotel New Annual Passholder Perks Fans of The Muppets will want to head over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios before September 24th, because there are THREE new perks you won’t want to miss out on as an Annual Passholder! The first is a new Annual Passholder magnet, available for pickup at Vacation Fun. It features Kermit the Frog and his iconic banjo, and yes, we’re unhealthily obsessed with it. We’re not ready to “let it go,” which is why we were so excited when Frozen‘s Idina Menzel first commented on the potential of a third Frozen film in 2022. Then Josh Gad teased his return as Olaf in a new Frozen movie in 2023 after then-Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a third movie. ©Disney Eventually, Disney revealed that Frozen 3 would release on November 24th, 2027. We got to see some concept art of the new movie, but since then, it’s been mostly crickets…until now. Yes, Disney has FINALLY offered up some new details about the new Frozen movie! Disney has made LOTS of announcements about upcoming movies and TV shows at the Disney Entertainment panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. From a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday to the official announcement of Zootopia 3, we have been getting more and more excited about everything that is coming soon. ©Disney To add to the list of announcements, Disney just announced a brand-new animated movie coming to theaters in November 2028 called Clay. Now, we know that’s quite a bit from now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start to get excited about a new movie! Disney’s Clay will feature characters named Clay and Mooshy and will star Kieran Culkin. Jared Bush shared a piece of concept art from the movie, and we are loving all the bright colors. ©Disney Animation We can’t wait to learn more about this movie and see upcoming trailers. The Entertainment Panel was full of announcements. Disney shared a new look at Frozen 3, including new concept art, some hints at the plot, and a peek at one of the film’s new songs! ©Disney We also learned about the new Star Wars: Starfighter film and got a peek at a trailer for season 2 of Ahsoka. ©Disney As well, Disney also announced two new celebrities for its upcoming movie, Hexed.
