August 13, 2026 Working in publishing comes with perks, like getting to read books before they reach the hands of readers. At Disney Publishing, the perk goes beyond that; it extends to the author that we get to work with and learn from. From Disney Legends, to Imagineers, to the voices of your favorite Princesses, and more; these stories ignite passion and spark imagination. Ahead of this year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, we wanted to share a look at Floating Mountains: The Art of Imagining the Impossible by Disney Legend and Walt Disney Imagineering veteran (and bookworm), Joe Rohde. Joe Rohde’s home bookshelf. August 2026 Chapter 4: Bookworm to Backpack From Floating Mountains by Joe Rohde I believe that every creative person should be constantly accumulating knowledge, pure knowledge for the sake of knowledge itself. Research shows that elevated levels of curiosity are directly connected to creativity. What you know directly impacts what you are able to create, so it is good to know as much as you can. In my childhood home on O‘ahu, the natural world intruded upon everything. We lived with all kinds of insects inside our rotting old house, as well as the chubby geckos that hunted them. The sprawling disheveled yard was populated by more lizards, cane toads, centipedes, mongooses, rats, butterflies, giant African snails, dragonflies, and an encyclopedia’s worth of birds. I was never very far from a stream or pond where I could search for critters to collect. The solitude and beauty of my streamside hunts provided a welcome relief from the chaos of our household, which was constantly preoccupied with some sort of medical or economic crisis. This early experience with nature conditioned me to think of exploration as something joyful, even relaxing. My world of exploration grew exponentially when we moved to California. My high school ran an active backcountry hiking program that allowed us to penetrate remote, untrammeled trails in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. But in my young adulthood, I didn’t have the economic means to go anywhere else. Instead, I channeled my exploratory interest into learning, chiefly through books. A lot of books. My mother had used the Hawai‘i State Library in Honolulu as an improvised day care center when I was between five and seven years old because it was across the street from the clinic where my brother received care. I wandered for hours amid the towering stacks of books, many of which were too complex for me to read. Still, I would open them up and do my best to parse the captions under the photographs. Ever since, I have been a person of books. There are stacks beside my bed. They fill my studio. My family knows that for Christmas, birthdays, and any other occasion, they can present me with almost any book randomly picked off a shelf and I will read it. For example, a three-volume history of technology from the Oxford University Press, each volume 800 pages long. A book on earthworms. A book called The Premonitions Bureau about a British governmental organization attempting to leverage the powers of extrasensory perception (ESP). The satirical detective fiction of Carl Hiaasen. A reprinted monograph of a 1635 book on everything from unnatural marvels to making soup. I will at least try to read a book about anything. All knowledge is interrelated, so it is truly interesting to read almost anything. And if you intend to be a designer, you need to know how to manipulate raw material. Knowledge itself is a kind of raw material. Knowing things is a fundamental creative skill. The importance of reading—and learning from books—has come up again and again in my career, even in its earliest days. When I first joined Walt Disney Imagineering (then called WED Enterprises) in 1980, I was assigned to the Mexico Pavilion being developed for EPCOT Center (known today simply as EPCOT). Eddie Martinez, who was himself a serious and thorough researcher, led the project. He was good friends with legendary Disney artist Herb Ryman. After only a few weeks as a very junior Imagineer, I was not only introduced to Herb Ryman but also regularly accompanied Eddie on visits to the Ryman home in the San Fernando Valley. Herbie, as he was universally known, was an adventurer. He had endless piles of sketches from his travels around the world: the gates of Peking in the years before World War II; Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where he spent time living in the ruins with the monks; East Africa; the circus; and, of course, sketches and illustrations for his design projects, most famously those of Disneyland. But everyone knew that Herbie was an artist. What struck me more was that his house was filled with books, all kinds of books. Huge, old leather volumes, paperbacks, art books, history books, books of theory. An insecure young professional, I would have been reluctant to call myself an artist in the presence of Herb Ryman. But books were something I understood very well. Something I had in common with Herb Ryman, because it sure wasn’t talent. What I realized was that Herbie and I shared a core belief: Books are every bit as much raw material as paint or clay. For a designer like myself (and, dare I say, like Herbie), involved in making places, it’s vital to study places before you visit them and to study them after you have visited, so that you understand the origins and meanings of what you see and saw. It is imperative to study cultures before engaging cultural partners, as both a sign of interest and respect and to maximize the value of their time. It’s important to study your own field of expertise so that you can call yourself a professional. It is valuable to know what you’re looking at, to understand how events, objects, and places come to be. That involves reading, not just looking at pictures. As a project leader today, I compel my team members to read piles of books at the beginning of each project. Knowledge is power. Books are the storage batteries for that power. In a world of technology, it’d be easy to think we can bypass books. But there are reasons why reading still matters.* * Don’t be fooled by your mobile device. All the science says that retention, knowledge, and emotional impact are greater when reading from a physical book. August 2026 Floating Mountains by Joe Rohde First to market at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event. Available for pre-order. “Floating Mountains weaves together stories, creative exercises, and science — it’s serious and funny and practical and whimsical, illustrated with photos and sketches, with some scary bits and some scholarly bits culled from my life of curiosity and exploration. It’s about embracing and directing the power of an ensemble to achieve something that’s never been done before. I wrote it to empower and inspire everyone to seek and achieve seemingly impossible dreams, and to push their thinking to new heights.” – Joe Rohde Travel in Style with the New Disney x BÉIS Collection READ MORE Pins, Plush, and Other Collectibles Coming to D23 READ MORE How to Shop at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 READ MORE The post Book of the Month: Must-Read Picks from Disney Publishing appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 3. There might be no one more excited for Monstropolis to come to Hollywood Studios than me! This has been one of my favorite Disney movies, and when I heard that Muppets Courtyard was closing, I shed a few tears and said hello to Monsters, Inc.! Monstropolis construction We’re out in Anaheim, California for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event from August 14th through the 16th — but we showed up a little early for a special media preview where Disney just gave us a sneak peek of the new Monsters, Inc.-themed land. Hold onto your hard hats — this is going to be good! We’re expecting way more information to be revealed on Saturday the 15th when Disney covers its future Disney Parks experiences, but the company did give us an appetizer by showing us NEW models of monsters coming to the land! Check out these little monsters! These models resembled mutated common animals, and we’re HERE for it! Splitting Hare There was the Splitting Hare (with an unusual number of ears), as well as the Monster Pigeon — which has TWO heads, and one doesn’t look all too friendly. Monster Pigeon We also spotted the Monster Squirrel — which has three eyes and three bushy tails! It’s a bit off, but you can’t deny how cute it still is! Monster Squirrel You’ll be able to find all of these monsters in the new land when it opens! Monstropolis While Disney has been fairly quiet about the project, the one attraction they’ve been bragging about is the hanging door roller coaster. It will be just like the scene in the movie where Mike and Sulley climb through the door to help find Boo. ©Disney We also know Harryhausen’s will be coming! This is the iconic sushi restaurant from the movie, and ever since we saw it pop up on concept art, we’ve been begging for it to be real. It seems like a lot of elements from the movie are being pulled right into the land. ©Disney In the meantime, make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news and everything you need to know about planning your next Disney World vacation. 4. BREAKING NEWS out of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event about a NEW land coming to Disney World! Villains Land Concept Art ©Disney We were invited by Disney to attend a media preview before the D23 fan expo officially kicks off on August 14th in Anaheim, California, and — wow — do we have a lot to share with you! We got some exciting updates to share about Villains Land in Magic Kingdom that you cannot miss, especially if you’re as excited about this new land as we are! While we’re anticipating more news about Villains Land to drop later this weekend, we did get an early taste in the form of a new model! Dark Forest Called the Dark Forest, these creepy-looking trees will be featured within the new Villains Land, and it gives us our first tangible sense of how the vibes might actually be in this new Disney World area. Spooky Disney has been keeping many details about this new land — which is currently being built right behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — under wraps. We know that it’ll be home to some of the Disney villains we “know and loathe” from our favorite Walt Disney Studios animated films. Disney continued to say that, “The evil ambition of all these Villains means that the possibilities are endless for the stories that can be told — and visitors to the dark and thorny land should be prepared for whatever chaos might come their way.” Ta-da! At this time, we also know that the land will house two major attractions, an undetermined amount of dining options, and some shopping on an “incredibly twisted grand scale.” Our last bit of news we got about this land also revealed some of the architectural inspiration and where Imagineers have traveled to gain insight for building the new land, which was unveiled at Destination D23. 5. Disney just dropped NEW details about the upcoming Avatar Land coming to Disney California Adventure here at our sneak peek of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event! New Avatar Model! Just last fall Disney confirmed that Disneyland would in fact be getting its own iteration of a realized Avatar-themed land. While the fate of this teased land rested in the since-passed Disneyland Forward project, Disney’s now giving us even more details about what will await us when we see the land and its new ride debut in the form of a new detailed model! We’re here at the sneak peek of the Imagineering: Horizons pavilion at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and Disney has released a new model of part of the new Avatar expansion on its way to Disney California Adventure. From afar, the model looks very similar to the concept art that’s been released earlier, especially the massive rock formation that almost forms a half circle. We’re so happy to see this design has continued to stick around in this rockwork creation. What a model! There’s something really important to notice, though, off to the right — you can see exactly how this land will fit in with the Monorail outside the park! Is that the monorail? Taking a look even closer, it looks like guests will be able to stand at the base of the massive rock formation and waterfall to admire the incredible view. Guests down below the structure Based on Disney’s previous plans, there is supposed to be a ride in here somewhere, and if you look REALLY closely, you can see one of the boats in the water, seemingly part of the attraction that will be here. Look at the boat! If this is all new to you then here’s how this all came to be. Disney CEO Bob Iger briefly mentioned a possible Avatar project coming to Disneyland during an annual shareholder meeting back in April of 2024. During this call, he alluded to the fact that Disney World had its own Avatar-themed land in Disney World, so it made sense it could be possible for one at Disneyland, too. During this time, the concept art Disney released was still in its “Blue-Sky” phase, which essentially means that Disney Imagineers are looking into the possibility of this becoming a realized project and what it would take to make it happen. Na’vi But, truth be told, we were STOKED to see such cool concepts make it out of their imaginations and onto paper to share with us. However, it was interesting that it appeared from the jump that this new Avatar Land concept would most closely follow the second-to-latest installment of the franchise, Avatar: The Way of Water, which would help connect it to future films. ©Disney The next update we got about this Avatar expansion, came during the Park Experiences panel of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024. While there were a slew of announcements during this panel, Disney did reveal they were moving forward with plans for Avatar Land AND shared even more updated concept art of not only the land, “bring Pandora to life in a brand-new way…” ©Disney …but it’s brand-new ride, too! Disney also teased that the ride will allow you to explore Pandora through a “thrilling excursion that will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar.” The vibrant concept art that was released during this first look at the upcoming ride showed water themes and breathtaking landscapes that highlighted both “the beauty — and danger — that come along with the journey.” ©Disney We’ll be bringing you all of the latest Disney updates as they happen throughout this weekend, so be sure you’re following along with us at Disney Food Blog so you don’t miss a thing. 6. Who’s ready for some massive Avengers Campus news? New look at Avengers Campus expansion! So, we’ve been super excited ever since Disney promised a huge expansion to Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure that will bring two NEW rides to the land that sound pretty amazing. Well, we’ve learned a little more about that expansion, and now we have brand new details to share! We’re LIVE at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where we’re learning a LOT more about all the new lands and expansions coming to Disney Parks. Well, we just got some huge updates about the Avengers Campus expansion over in Disneyland, so let’s get into all the details of what we’ve learned. Thanks to a sneak peek we just got at the Imagineering: Horizons exhibit, we now have a model of the new expansion to look at! New look at Avengers Campus expansion! From the model, we can see what a MASSIVE expansion this really is, especially because we really are getting our own Avengers Tower! The largest part of this expansion will be for Avengers Infinity Defense, one of the two new attractions on its way. This is a ride that will take you on an adventure through the multiverse to go up against King Thanos (yep, he’s King of everything in an alternate universe, and that’s a very bad thing). Here’s the plot: “Technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds has gone missing, and King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc everywhere. Recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside the likes of big and small heroes… You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too.” Infinity Defense! The second ride being added to the land is Stark Flight Lab, which will take you on a tour through Tony Stark’s lab so you can literally ride on a simulator that makes it seem like you’re flying in one of Iron Man’s suits. This new model also gives us a look at what the part of the attraction will look like. Stark Flight Lab You’ll be seated in a two-person “gyro-kinetic pod” that will roll along a track and then connect to a robot arm that will sling you around like you’re flying. Needless to say, this ride might NOT be for everyone, but it looks SO cool. Check out the look we got at the ride vehicle/seats below — they look pretty epic! Ride Vehicle! 7. We’re LIVE at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we’re ready to take in everything this expo has to offer — such as big panels (the Parks and Experiences panel) — because we need to know MORE about all the new stuff coming to Disney World and Disneyland. ©Disney We were invited by Disney to attend a media preview the day before the convention officially kicks off (it runs from August 14th through the 16th at the Anaheim Convention Center in California and the nearby Honda Center), and we got a sneak peek of a TON of different new things coming to the streaming platforms, movie theaters, and the Disney Parks. In fact, Disney gave us NEW looks at the new Cars expansion — Piston Peak — that’s currently being built in Magic Kingdom, and we’re sharing all those new details with you! Piston Peak, which is being constructed in Frontierland, is inspired by the National Parks — specifically Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The name comes from Piston Peak National Park, as seen in the 2014 Disney movie Planes: Fire & Rescue. The new land will even have a geyser inspired by Old Faithful! During the preview, we were shown a model of how the land will look! Piston Peak! The new land will feature not one…but TWO…new attractions, including a rally race-themed ride that will take you on a thrilling journey through Piston Peak. There will also be a more family-friendly attraction that Disney promises will be fun for the whole family. ‘Cars’ is coming to Magic Kingdom! Well, now we’ve learned some NEW details about the upcoming land! For starters, we now have a general understanding of the intended layout. A closer look at Piston Peak Themed to blend in seamlessly with Frontierland, this new area takes plenty of inspiration from the national park aesthetic while incorporating the charm of the Cars franchise. This gives us an idea of scale We also got a closer look at restaurants, shops, and other themed areas. So exciting! Of course, the model included a look at the rides — one of which seems to take passengers on a thrilling journey through a mountain along a scenic route. This new ride looks LEGIT This is a race, after all, and a race wouldn’t be complete without the finish line! You can spot the big finale on this model Peep the finish line We also got our best look yet at the new ride vehicles! These cars are designed to look like off-road vehicles with those lovable faces up front. A ride vehicle Each vehicle appears to have two rows of three seats. A look at the seats These look sooooo good, and this new Magic Kingdom area is shaping up to be something special! It looks incredible! Disney has not yet revealed an opening timeline for the ride, but we’ve been keeping a close eye on the construction in Magic Kingdom. Additionally, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to learn way more about Piston Peak and all the other Disney Parks expansion this weekend at D23, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates! 8. We’re FINALLY here at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, and we couldn’t be more stoked. Sneak Peek at Carousel of Progress! This year’s event takes place in Anaheim, California, from August 14th-16th, and since it’s the biggest event of the year, you can bet there’s news coming out every which way. We’re here LIVE to bring you all the latest news from the panels, exhibits, merchandise tables, and everything in between. It’s a lot to cover, but right now we’ve gotta direct your attention to what we just got to see at the sneak peek at the Imagineering: Horizons pavilion, because it involves the retheme of Carousel of Progress! The parks exhibit is officially known as the Disney Experiences pavilion, which is returning this year. It’s one of the most popular exhibits at the event, because who doesn’t want to know what’s coming to the parks? At the pavilion this year, Imagineering: Horizons invites Disney fans to explore their largest pavilion EVER! It showcases the progress being made to shape the Disney parks around the world with an up‑close look at the people, the process, and possibilities brought to life by Imagineers. One of the parts of the exhibit we were most excited for was to hopefully get a sneak peek at the new retheme coming to Carousel of Progress, and we weren’t disappointed. Act 1 Sneak Peek! We got a look at some of the costumes and the design coming to the different acts in the new version of the ride. Now, Act 1 will take place in the 1960s, and we can totally see that in the design of the outfits and the home. Just look at this incredible outfit! 1960s for sure! Designs were also posted of the stage and how it’ll change between acts. While Act 1 will be the 1960s, Act 2 will now take place in the 1980s, Act 3 will be 1999, while Act 4 will be what the future may hold. It certainly looks like the stage will change quite a bit, which is a pretty drastic change from the prior version, where the kitchen largely stayed the same for the first three acts with small theming changes. Different designs! Now, it’s unclear exactly what’s going on in this scene, but consider us intrigued — is that a fireplace INSIDE a tree? Sneak Peek at Carousel of Progress! We know there’s a LOT of news coming out of this weekend, but we’re here to help break it all down. We’ve been watching construction closely, but now, thanks to a sneak peek at the Disney Imagineers: Horizons exhibit at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, we’ve got a sneak peek at the three attractions coming to the new land! There are three total rides coming to Pueblo Esperanza, and one of them is a new attraction that will feature the Madrigal family inside their iconic Casita. The story revolves around the day Antonio receives his special gift of communicating with animals, and his room transforms into a rainforest, just like in the movie. The Casita has also magically brought all the furniture to life, allowing guests to ride through the story that goes beyond the film. Now, we know what some of the ride vehicles will look like! Look at those ride vehicles! It looks like the vehicles will all include furniture from the home, which makes sense with it all coming alive! In these two models, we see a piano leading one car, while the other is led by a blue dresser. It looks like the cars themselves are made out of various furniture from around the house — how fun is that? So fun! It looks like we’ll also get to see a capybara friend in the new ride! How fun! Capybara! That’s far from all, though! We also got a sneak peek at some of the animals coming to the carousel attraction in Pueblo Esperanza. This ride has previously been described as having ride vehicles/animals that are inspired by Disney films, and now we can really see that influence. It looks like there will be an adorable rabbit… Rabbit …and then we started to recognize some of our favorite Disney friends! We’ve got Eeyore… Eeyore! …Pua from Moana… It’s Pua! …as well as Nigel from Finding Nemo. Hey Nigel! Finally, Disney also has a whole model detailing the new Indiana Jones attraction coming to the land. Model of the new ‘Indiana Jones’ attraction We’ll be at D23 all weekend to bring you all the latest news, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB! 11. Imagineers are a creative, passionate bunch. We look forward to D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event each year as an opportunity to give our most dedicated fans a look at our global projects. This year, we intentionally designed a pavilion that captures the excitement we feel across Walt Disney Imagineering and continues the story we began in 2024 at the Horizons Showcase. Aptly named, the “Imagineering: Horizons” pavilion celebrates this extraordinary moment of growth and momentum happening across Disney Experiences, with each resort represented throughout the space. Now, we are taking you beyond the horizon to show you the great big, beautiful tomorrow that awaits. Promenade of Progress Guests will enter the pavilion through the Promenade of Progress, passing between a façade featuring concept art from active projects meant to draw them into a celebration of progress, possibility, and construction currently underway across Disney Experiences. At the heart of the promenade is Center Stage, which will host more than 30 Imagineer presentations throughout the weekend. The stage design is inspired by the 1967 Tomorrowland Terrace Stage — or, as we’re calling it, the Tom Morrow-land Terrace Stage — and will also feature appearances by Tom Morrow 2.0, host of “Imagineer That!” on the Walt Disney Imagineering YouTube channel. From there, guests can explore highlights from projects around the world, including new models, maquettes, concept art, and interactive experiences that showcase how Disney Imagineers bring stories to life. Walt Disney World Resort Projects At the pavilion, guests will get a closer look at several projects in development for Walt Disney World Resort. For Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom, the display includes two new costumes — one from the 1960s and one from the Future scene. Guests will also see two maquettes displayed at the same scale as those seen on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World, along with a new attraction poster inspired by the original. For Tropical Americas coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests will get a new look inside the upcoming Encanto attraction, including Audio-Animatronics figures that will appear in one of the scenes. The display will also feature a model of the Indiana Jones attraction temple façade. In addition, four sculpts will be on display showcasing character friends guests will find in the carousel within Tropical Americas. For Piston Peak National Park coming to Magic Kingdom, a stunning 19-by-19-foot model will offer guests a look into the new themed area, including a first look at the second attraction. Guests will also have the opportunity to snap a photo with a display of the land marquee featuring a Goat Cart. Over in Monstropolis coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will get a look at a mood board showcasing the design inspiration behind the neighborhoods of Monstropolis, complete with sketches and design renderings. Painted maquettes of monster-fied critters — a pigeon, a squirrel, and a rabbit — will also be on display. For the highly anticipated Villains-themed land, the pavilion will include two themed tree sculpts, offering a glimpse at the atmosphere and visual language being developed for this bold new space. Research & Development Projects The pavilion will also highlight the inventive spirit of Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development. Guests can experience the Anzellan Creature Workshop, an interactive activation inspired by Star Wars, and get a look at Hugo’s Sweets & Fizz, a new Star Wars food truck animatronic show coming to Disneyland Resort. Super Hero Experiences Around the World Super Hero fans will find several exciting projects represented in the pavilion. A model of the Avengers Pavilion exterior for the new attraction coming to Hong Kong Disneyland will be on display, giving guests a glimpse at this ambitious new experience. For Shanghai Disneyland, local street artists from Shanghai created a custom Spider-Man mural for one of the pavilion walls. A time-lapse of the mural’s creation will play on a nearby monitor, celebrating the energy and artistry behind the attraction. Coming to Disney California Adventure, the Avengers Campus expansion model will be displayed along with a ride vehicle maquette for Stark Flight Lab. Disneyland Resort Projects The pavilion will preview several exciting additions still on the horizon for Disneyland Resort. For the upcoming Coco attraction at Disney California Adventure, guests will see a new queue rendering and a sculpt of Hector. They will also have the opportunity to write down a special Disneyland Resort memory with their loved ones. In the pavilion, you can write a message or memory on a paper card. Each card created will then be transformed into soil that will be embedded in floral planters at the threshold of the attraction queue – a blooming tribute that will keep treasured memories alive for years to come. In this way, the memories shared in the pavilion will become a lasting part of the attraction’s story. The pavilion will also include a look at the upcoming Avatar destination, featuring a rockwork model and ride vehicle model that offer an early glimpse into this immersive new experience. Tokyo Disneyland Guests will get a closer look at two exciting projects coming to Tokyo Disneyland. Attendees can preview the progress underway on the first Disney Parks attraction inspired by the world of Wreck-It Ralph. Developed in collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios, Imagineers have expanded the colorful world of Sugar Rush with new locations and 12 original confectionary characters created exclusively for the attraction. The pavilion will also feature the new Space Mountain design model, a ride vehicle maquette, and a scale model of the attraction’s new plaza icon. Disneyland Paris At Disneyland Paris, we are giving a front row view of The Lion King construction at Disney Adventure World. The black light study model gives a first look into what the guests will experience when riding the Lion King attraction, as well as sharing a ride vehicle maquette and the Rafiki’s Tree scale model that will be in the land. This is the largest pavilion in Imagineering history, staffed by more than 150 Imagineers over the course of the event. We are so excited to welcome fans into the space. If you’re unable to attend, be sure to follow Walt Disney Imagineering on Instagram and YouTube, and stay tuned for more Imagineering stories on the Disney Parks Blog. 19. As students and teachers across Central Florida head back into the classroom, Walt Disney World cast members are helping them start the school year off strong through Disney’s Back-to-School Supply Drive supporting A Gift For Teaching. This summertime event is a cast-favorite annual tradition, and this year, Walt Disney World cast members collected more than 155,000 school supplies for local teachers and students. With this recent collection, Disney has donated more than 1 million school supplies in the last decade through this supply drive. Partnering Together to Support Education These items will help stock classrooms and equip students and teachers in Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, and Polk counties. More than 100 Disney VoluntEARS gathered on Thursday to count and sort through donations. “We’re committed to removing barriers to learning by ensuring teachers and students have free access to the supplies they need to succeed,” said Jane Thompson, President of A Gift For Teaching. “These donated supplies represent a student walking into school prepared to learn and a teacher feeling supported by their community. We’re grateful for Walt Disney World’s longstanding support of our mission and for the generosity of its cast members, who help make a difference through this supply drive year after year.” Supporting education is an important part of Walt Disney World’s commitment to Central Florida. Since A Gift For Teaching was founded nearly 30 years ago, Disney has been one of the nonprofit’s largest and longest-standing supporters, helping provide local teachers, students and schools with the tools and resources they need to succeed. “Every child deserves the opportunity to start the school year feeling prepared and confident. That’s why Disney’s Back-to-School Drive means so much to us,” said Tajiana Ancora-Brown, Director of External Affairs at Walt Disney World. “Year after year, our cast comes together to support local students and teachers because we know that having the right tools can make a real difference in the classroom. Investing in education is one of the most meaningful ways we can help strengthen our community and inspire the next generation to dream big.” Investing in Students Across Central Florida The supply drive is just one of the many ways Disney supports local education efforts. At the start of summer, Disney invested $1.3 million into education programs across Central Florida. The donation benefited all five local school districts and organizations that support education. Disney also makes a difference throughout the school year by providing monetary and in-kind donations, meaningful development opportunities, and volunteer support across the region. Every notebook, pencil, and school supply collected by Disney cast members this summer will soon make its way into local classrooms, assisting educators, and inspiring the next generation of leaders and innovators across Central Florida. 21. If you’ve been here for a while, it’s no secret that we’re big fans of unique and quirky snacks. Let’s get those snacks! We review theme park food pretty much every day, and if you’re looking for something interesting to snack on when you can’t get to the parks, sometimes the next best thing is the state fair! We recently came across the list of best foods at the Texas State Fair for 2026, and we can’t help but think that some of them are pretty similar to Disney World treats. Each year, the Big Tex Choice Awards highlight the best of the best coming to the Texas State Fair. There were several intriguing eats, but some of them are similar to treats we know and love from Disney World. The first one that caught our attention was the Berry Me in Matcha, which is a cheesecake slice on a stick, dipped in chocolate and rolled in matcha cookie crumbles. ©Big Tex Choice Awards In the Disney realm, this reminds us like the Frozen Key Lime Pie at Good’s Food to Go at Old Key West Resort. This is chocolate-dipped frozen key lime pie, and it is DELIGHTFUL. Frozen Key Lime Pie The next snack that caught our eye was the Fletcher’s Chocolate Corny Dog. It’s a piece of fudge dipped in corn dog batter and fried. ©Big Tex Choice Awards This reminds us of one of our favorite snack spots — Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs at the BoardWalk. This corn dog stand does all kinds of fun twists on the classic corn dog, and even offers sweets like fried Hawaiian rolls on a stick. We love it here, and it takes care of that corn dog fix until the fair rolls around. Blue Ribbon The Nevins Soft Serve Peach Bellini Float is peach bellini soft serve infused with sparkling wine, topped with sparkling sugar and grated frozen peach. And it’s fairly similar to… ©Big Tex Choice Awards …the Ice Cream Martini at L’Artisan des Glaces in the France Pavilion at EPCOT. It’s made with your choice of ice cream flavors, and then you can add a shot of Grand Marnier, Whipped Cream Vodka, or Rum. We’ve also seen a similar Peach Bellini treat at Swirls on the Water in Disney Springs in the past. Pina Colada Ice Cream Martini In a similar vein, the Texas State Fair has the Sunset Soft Serve Rita, made with a strawberry and mango margarita, vanilla soft-serve ice cream, a Tajín rim, chamoy drizzle, and a crunchy hot honey Tajín topping. Sounds wild! ©Big Tex Choice Awards Over the years in Disney World, we’ve seen several versions of a Dole Whip Margarita. Some are served in frozen form while others combine the soft serve with the beverage to make a float form. The flavors have varied, but these pop up from time to time on seasonal menus. Dole Whip Margarita Float So if you’re going to the Texas State Fair soon, make sure to grab some of the snacks that make you think fondly of Disney World. This year, the fair begins in late September. We’ll keep you in the loop with more snack news, so stay tuned to DFB. 22. When we’re at Disney Springs, we love grabbing a bite to eat at City Works Eatery & Pour House. Nothing beats burgers and fries with more than 80 craft beers from around the world on tap! ©City Works We’re always coming back for their Chef Selects menu, a rotating limited-time selection of two drinks and two food items. City Works just released the new Chef Selects items for this fall, and we’re RUNNING to Disney Springs to try them! To eat, you can grab the French Onion Flatbread for $20.95. This is a flatbread topped with French onion-style onions, gruyere cheese, mozzarella, truffled mushrooms, and green onions. ©City Works Or you can get the Smoked Brisket Reuben Egg Rolls for $16.95. These are smoked brisket, bacon-braised sauerkraut, and gruyere cheese inside a wonton wrapper, served with spicy cider ale mustard aioli and smoky chipotle thousand island. ©City Works And to wash it all down, City Works added two new cocktails to its Chef Selects menu. The Harvest Highball is made with Lunazul Reposado, apple juice, agave syrup, lime juice, cinnamon, and Fever-Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit. Or you can get the Chocolate Banana Bread Old Fashioned, a sweet mix of Elijah Craig Small Batch, Giffard Banane du Bresil, demerara syrup, and chocolate bitters. ©City Works We’re so excited to head to City Works to try the fall Chef Selects menu, available now through October 6th. 23. Disney World is very good at convincing us to spend money. Suddenly, a $40 tumbler feels essential because it has tiny Orange Birds on it. A $90 backpack becomes a vacation investment. And after walking through EPCOT for six hours, you may be prepared to hand over your credit card to anyone offering comfortable shoes and an air-conditioned chair. ©Disney Some pricier purchases really do earn their place in your suitcase, though. We’re talking about the things our Disney experts have owned for years, carried through multiple vacations, and used far beyond the parks. They cost more upfront, but they don’t fall apart after one humid afternoon or disappear into the back of a closet once the vacation is over. Break the price down by the number of times you’ll actually use them, and these Disney World splurges start looking surprisingly sensible. DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. Ray-Ban Sunglasses for Men and Women Florida sunshine does not play around. It bounces off pavement, reflects off Spaceship Earth, and follows you directly into every outdoor queue with the focus of a very determined Disney villain. That makes good sunglasses one of the few Disney World purchases we refuse to treat as an afterthought. ©Amazon I’ve owned the Ray-Ban RB4420 Square Sunglasses for more than 10 years, and they are still my favorite pair. A decade is practically an archaeological era in sunglasses years, especially when you consider how many cheaper pairs end up scratched, stretched, or abandoned in a hotel nightstand. They also work beyond Disney World. Wear them while driving, traveling, running errands, or sitting by the pool. When one pair lasts 10 years, the cost per wear becomes tiny. view ON AMAZON Bombas Women’s Ankle Socks Expensive socks sound faintly ridiculous until you have walked 25,000 steps in a pair of bad ones. Bombas Women’s Ankle Socks are a favorite among our team because they add cushioning and support without turning your shoes into small portable saunas. ©Amazon Yes, Bombas socks cost more than the giant value pack you can grab almost anywhere. They also tend to keep their shape, feel comfortable through long walking days, and survive repeated washing better than many bargain pairs. These are my favorite socks. Not my favorite Disney socks. Not my favorite travel socks. My favorite socks, period. That is a strong endorsement for an item most people normally purchase while standing under fluorescent lights and thinking, “These seem fine.” view ON AMAZON Apple Watch Series 10 This is the exact Apple Watch I own, and it has become far more than a very pretty way to check the time. Once a Disney MagicMobile pass is added to Apple Wallet, it can also be added automatically to a paired Apple Watch. You can then use the watch to enter Disney theme parks and tap into virtual queue or Lightning Lane entrances when you have a valid entry. Express Mode means you do not need to unlock the device or open the Wallet app first. ©Amazon That is enormously convenient when your phone is buried beneath sunscreen, portable chargers, receipts, and the emergency snack you forgot you packed. The watch also tracks activity, delivers notifications, and helps you keep an eye on the time without repeatedly pulling out your phone. At Disney World, where your phone is already handling dining reservations, mobile orders, wait times, maps, and Lightning Lane plans, any task you can move to your wrist feels like a small vacation victory. ©Amazon It is expensive, certainly. But this is something you can wear every day for years, not a gadget that only becomes useful when you spot Cinderella Castle. view ON AMAZON Loungefly Disney Mickey Mouse Confetti Ears Mini Backpack Loungefly mini backpacks can cause a little sticker shock, especially when you compare them to larger bags that cost less. But a well-made Loungefly can last through years of park days, Disney Springs expeditions, airport terminals, and overly ambitious attempts to fit six souvenirs into one tiny backpack. I’ve had this Loungefly for two years now, and it still looks brand new. That is exactly what you want from a bag that will be carried through heat, crowds, restaurants, transportation, and the occasional Florida downpour that arrives with absolutely no respect for your itinerary. ©Amazon A Loungefly also holds more than it appears to. A small wallet, portable charger, sunscreen, sunglasses case, medication, reusable bag, and a few other essentials can fit without requiring you to carry something the size of a camping pack. Choose one design you genuinely love, take reasonable care of it, and use it trip after trip. The price feels far less dramatic once that bag has been to Disney World more times than some members of your family. view ON AMAZON New Balance Women’s FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5 Shoes are not the place to conduct a budget experiment. You can save money on plenty of vacation items. You can bring your own water bottle. You can split meals. You can bravely walk away from the $80 spirit jersey even though the color is perfect. But putting untested bargain shoes on your feet before a full Magic Kingdom day is the opening scene of a cautionary tale. ©Amazon New Balance has been one of my favorite shoe brands for years because the shoes consistently work for my feet and never let me down. The FuelCell SuperComp Elite v5 is a premium performance shoe. High-quality footwear that fits you correctly can be worth every penny. ©Amazon This particular model was designed as a race-day shoe, so test it thoroughly before declaring it your official EPCOT footwear. Shoes are personal. What feels glorious on one person’s feet may feel like an expensive little prison on someone else’s. A dependable pair can handle regular workouts, errands, travel, and years of Disney vacations. The cost per mile eventually makes those cheaper shoes you kept replacing look like the real splurge. view ON AMAZON Oura Ring 5 in Silver Some Disney fans love using an Apple Watch in the parks. Others want their wrist available for a MagicBand. The Oura Ring offers a clever compromise. You can wear your MagicBand for park entry and other Disney features while using the ring to track steps, activity, sleep, and recovery data. Oura calculates activity using both step-based movement and other daily movement, which means it can capture more than the number of times you marched across EPCOT because someone forgot to buy their festival merchandise earlier. ©Amazon The Oura Ring 5 is made with a titanium design and is significantly smaller than the previous generation. This is definitely a splurge. There may also be a membership cost to consider for access to the full range of personalized insights and features. Still, it makes sense for someone who already wants a health tracker and prefers wearing a traditional watch, a MagicBand, or no watch at all. view ON AMAZON Cashmere Wrap Some people pack handheld fans for Disney World. Some of us pack emergency cashmere. Personally, I am cold almost constantly, particularly inside Disney restaurants. You can spend an entire afternoon melting on the pavement, walk into one aggressively air-conditioned dining room, and immediately begin wondering whether the restaurant is also being used for frozen-food storage. ©Amazon A cashmere wrap solves that problem without requiring you to carry a bulky jacket all day. This one can be folded or rolled tightly enough to fit inside a Loungefly. Pull it out for restaurants, chilly buses, evening fireworks, hotel lobbies, or any indoor location where the air conditioning is bold. Cashmere costs more than a standard scarf, but it is warm without being especially heavy. It also works outside Disney World as a travel wrap, office layer, dinner accessory, or blanket substitute on a cold airplane. ©Amazon This is considerably better than purchasing another emergency sweatshirt in the parks because you did not expect Florida to become an icebox after sunset. Although, to be fair, Disney does sell some very persuasive sweatshirts. view ON AMAZON Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Disney World involves more waiting than the commercials tend to mention. You may wait for transportation, hotel check-in, a dining reservation, a nighttime show, Early Theme Park Entry, or a family member who insisted they would “be ready in five minutes.” A Kindle Paperwhite turns that empty time into reading time. This is the exact Kindle I have. While I have not personally carried mine around Disney World, I have seen AJ bring a Kindle along for waits in the parks. Frankly, that is expert-level queue preparation. ©Amazon You may not pull it out during every attraction queue. Some lines move too frequently, and others contain enough interesting details to keep you occupied. But it can be wonderful when you are waiting for a show, sitting outside a restaurant, taking a midday resort break, or giving the rest of your group another 20 minutes to finish shopping. A Kindle is also one of the easiest purchases on this list to use constantly at home. Even when your Disney vacation ends, your library remains ready for the next chapter. view ON AMAZON The best Disney World splurges are not always the flashiest ones. But when you are deciding where to spend a little more, look beyond the initial price. Think about durability, versatility, and how often you will use the item after the castle disappears from view. A product you use for 10 years may be cheaper than the “affordable” version you replace every season. 24. When we’re at EPCOT, we love hitting GEO-82, the iconic bar inside Spaceship Earth! It has great drinks, tasty snacks, and an intimate, adults-only atmosphere. Clarified Bee’s Knees at GEO-82 But just when we thought the lounge couldn’t get better, something big at GEO-82 just got a massive upgrade! Since its opening, GEO-82 has been kind of hidden in EPCOT. There were no signs outside the building other than a folding sign that was often missing in action, and the only entrance is this little hallway that can be hard to find. But Disney just gave GEO-82 a major upgrade! GEO-82 entrance Gone are the days when tourists struggled to find GEO-82, because there’s a brand-new sign outside the entrance! This new permanent sign is dark blue to match the Bubblegum Wall, with a shiny silver GEO-82 logo on both sides. There’s a new sign in town! If you’re considering heading to GEO-82 soon, then you’re probably wondering what to get. Some of our favorite drinks include the Clarified Bee’s Knees, A Walk Through the Garden Mocktail, and the Brown Butter Old Fashioned. To eat, we recommend the Funghi Flatbread, Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau, Jamón Ibérico Croquetas, and the Chef’s Selection of Artisanal Cheeses, Cured Meats, and Accompaniments. A Walk Through the Garden Mocktail We’ll be sure to keep you updated on more GEO-82 changes. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more Disney World restaurant news! 25. It’s officially Halloween season according to Disney, but the rest of the world might not be ready quite yet. Main Street Bakery Starbucks Of course, if you celebrate Halloween on the timeline of pumpkin spice lattes, then your moment is almost here! Starbucks recently announced their fall lineup of beverages, and they’re coming to locations across the U.S. on August 25th. We can’t wait, particularly because they’re introducing some NEW options. Of course, the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte will return on August 25th, but it’s being joined by some others, including the new Iced Pumpkin Cream Shaken Espresso, Pumpkin Spice Chai, and Iced Pumpkin Cream Matcha. Returning faves that will be available include the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai, and Pumpkin Spice Frappucino. Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai But pumpkin isn’t the only fall flavor in the lineup! Pecan-flavored beverages are back, like the Pecan Cortado, Iced Pecan Crunch Latte, and Pecan Crunch Latte. Also, to hop on recent trends, Starbucks is introducing Banana-flavored drinks for the fall. This means you can try out the new Iced Banana Bread Latte and Iced Banana Bread Chai with banana, cinnamon, and brown sugar flavors. Nice and warm! Iced Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte But the real kicker? Something we’re equally intrigued by and confused about…Chaider. Yes, it’s exactly what the name implies — chai mixed with apple cider. It has flavors of cinnamon and sweet spice, and we could see this either becoming THE must-have beverage this fall or the drink that turns into a strange meme. What do you think, will it work? Will it be delicious or off-putting? Only time will tell! ©Starbucks Of course, we can’t forget the eats that will be available. The new Chicken Bacon Protein Pocket is “toasted whole wheat lavash flatbread packed with tender chicken, crispy bacon and a creamy garlic herb cheese spread, containing 20 grams of protein.” There will also be a new Hedgehog Cake Pop! And of course, the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin is coming back for the season. ©Starbucks If you’ve got a hankering for some pumpkin spice, you only have to wait a few more days before you can snag your beverage of choice and start getting out that fall decor. 26. Who wants to go to the Four Seasons Orlando? Meeeeee! The Four Seasons Resort Orlando is located on Disney World property inside the Golden Oak neighborhood, but it’s not owned by Disney. They have some great restaurants there that we love, including Capa and Ravello. Four Seasons Orlando Even though these restaurants aren’t owned by Disney, Disney just rolled out a major My Disney Experience app update that will make dining there ten times easier if a Four Seasons spot is on your bucket list! Select Four Seasons Resort Orlando restaurants are now listed on the My Disney Experience app and the Disney World website. You can book dining reservations, check the hours, and more all in your Disney app! Currently, only two of the seven Four Seasons Resort Orlando restaurants are on the app, but we’re hopeful this update means Disney will add most, if not all, of them at a later date. ©Disney Capa is a Spanish-influenced steakhouse that offers fresh Florida seafood, high-quality beef, and small plates to try an array of items. The rooftop terrace on the 17th floor is the star of the restaurant, where we could see both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios from our table, and if we had eaten a later dinner, we could’ve seen fireworks from the parks! Now you can book one of the best fireworks views at Disney World on the My Disney Experience app and the Disney World website. So pretty! Plus, you can book a reservation for Ravello, a modern take on fine Italian cuisine. On a separate page, you can book their character breakfast, Good Morning Breakfast with Goofy and His Pals. Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto occasionally join the fun at this prix fixe breakfast on Saturday mornings. Our breakfast plate We love both of these restaurants, and we’re so excited that making a reservation at the Four Seasons Orlando just got easier.
