It might be hard to believe, but Pixar’s Cars movie is turning 20 this year (yep, we feel old right now). Well, Cars has remained a popular franchise for Disney, so much so that there’s an entire Cars Land in Disney California Adventure and a new Cars expansion called Piston Peak is coming to Disney World. KA-CHOW! To celebrate this big anniversary, the first Cars movie will be returning to theaters for a limited time. AND if you happen to go see it at AMC Theaters, you can also get yourself some brand new Cars souvenirs (and trust us, you’re going to want them). Cars will be returning to AMC Theaters on September 3rd, and to celebrate, AMC is releasing some SWEET Cars souvenirs, including a Piston Cup…that is actually a cup that comes with a fountain drink. We have seen a LOT of expensive souvenirs in Disney World. From super-cool signed artwork to building your own lightsaber and droid to even some pricey dinners that have us doing a double-take, there are a lot of expensive items hiding throughout Disney World, but nothing like this. Hollywood Studios “You Are Here” mug (2015) We assume the markup is due to them not selling these anymore and this one being from 2017, but that’s still a steep price for a coffee cup. Okay, let’s talk about DOLE Whip. It’s one of the most ICONIC treats in Disney Parks, and pretty much a MUST-EAT anytime you visit Disney World or Disneyland, right? It also comes in all kinds of treats, from the straight up classic DOLE Whip Pineapple Soft Serve to other flavors to floats to cupcakes. Pineapple DOLE Whip You can even find DOLE Whip in your local grocery store. Speaking of which, a NEW DOLE Whip product is coming to grocery stores soon, and you are either going to love it or hate it…DOLE Whip whipped cream. Now, we haven’t had an occasion where we were eating a dessert and thought, “You know what would make this better? DOLE Whip-flavored whipped topping!” However, maybe we’ll find some clever uses for it. Say, for example, pineapple whipped topping could be great on pineapple upside-down cake (although it’s even better with actual DOLE Whip). This might be a case of just spraying it into your mouth like you did as a kid and eating it by itself? Who knows? It’s probably worth a try, so if you see it out there in the wild, grab a can and try it for yourself. Looking to plan an international vacation in 2027? In 2027, new ways to travel are coming to the airline, including seven new international routes and three new destinations! We’ve seen some pretty big anniversaries celebrated in Disney World, just over the past decade, including the MASSIVE Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration (which went on FOREVER), as well as The Walt Disney Company’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. Let’s face it…Disney loves to celebrate, and there’s always a big party. Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom Well, another BIG Disney World anniversary is coming up soon. On October 1st, 2026, Disney World turns 55 years old, and we’ve already seen a sneak peek at what the 55th Anniversary logo will look like! Now, Disney World didn’t actually go out of its way to show us this new logo, but we noticed it when we were looking at upcoming merchandise drops. It was actually on a promo image of the new Cinderella doll that’s releasing on September 7th at The Disney Store to celebrate the event. ©Disney Here’s a closer look at the logo. It has the Walt Disney World logo at the top with a Florida pennant, the numbers 55, and the globe…and the 55 and globe make a Mickey Mouse head. ©Disney However, we’ve also seen another 55th Anniversary graphic that expands upon this logo, and it looks like we have the 55th Anniversary theme as well: “55 Magical Years of Storytelling.” This was from a special D23 event happening on October 4th. ©Disney So what does this mean? Well, Disney doesn’t seem to be going all out for its 55th birthday like it did for its 50th, but we can imagine that we’ll at least see some other merchandise drops in addition to the Cinderella drop over the next few months. We are hoping that Disney World releases some special snacks for the occasion, though that might just be our own wishful thinking, but still…if you’re paying attention, Disney…WE WANT SPECIAL SNACKS. Magic Kingdom has been making some MASSIVE changes. We’ve seen both Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad get HUGE updates. Villains Land is being built behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Piston Peak is being built in Frontierland. But we have yet another change to warn you about soon, too. The Walt Disney World Railroad The Walt Disney World Railroad is set to close soon, so if you have plans to ride this attraction, you’ll want to make note! According to the Disney World calendar, The Walt Disney World Railroad is set to close on September 28th. However, the good news is that the closure doesn’t seem to be for too long: the calendar shows it reopening on October 30th. This is probably just a refurbishment, so we don’t expect to see any big changes with the attraction. Walt Disney World Railroad The Walt Disney World Railroad is an opening day attraction in Magic Kingdom that operates with historic steam locomotives. It takes a round trip around Magic Kingdom and consists of four locomotives with five passenger cars each. Each train can hold about 365 people. WDW Railroad car The railroad has three stations: Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland. Usually, you can take a loop around the park, but due to construction in Frontierland, the railroad is operating in shuttle mode only: from Main Street, U.S.A. to Fantasyland and back again. Still, it’s a great way to save your feet if you don’t want to walk through the park. As of now, there is no word on when it might reopen, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the calendar for any updates. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure In addition to the closure of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Tiana’s Bayou General and Critter Co-Op will also be closing on November 2nd. These two gift shops feature Princess and the Frog merchandise along with other general Disney souvenirs. Critter Co-Op Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is a thrilling water ride that took over what once was Splash Mountain. It opened in Disney World on June 28th, 2024, meaning it’s over two years old! This is the first major refurbishment for the ride, and while Disney hasn’t shared any details about what the closure is for, it’s likely for general maintenance. The ride has had some mishaps with its animatronics pretty much since it opened, so it’s possible that this closure will address some of these issues (we can only hope!). Tiana animatronic As far as other ride closures go in Magic Kingdom, the Carousel of Progress is currently closed as Disney works to revamp it. Each scene of the ride is being completely updated to represent new decades. The first act will be set in the 1960s, starting with the moon landing in 1969. The second act will be in the 1980s, with Sarah showing off her latest kitchen gadgets and appliances. The third act will take us to 1999 on New Year’s Eve (cue Prince song here). Every year, thousands of people walk into the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival with a beautiful, reasonable goal: eat a few things, drink something fun, maybe complete a cheese crawl, and make it back to Spaceship Earth without needing to loosen their waistband. We are not those people. Food & Wine Opening Day On opening day, the DFB team arrives at EPCOT with phones charged, portable batteries packed, assignments made, spreadsheets open, food trays ready, and the collective determination to eat, photograph, film, review, and document essentially the ENTIRE festival. And then, while our reporters are sprinting around World Showcase carrying six plates and a rapidly melting dessert, there’s another team at home downloading photos, editing video, writing reviews, updating pages, building social posts, and sending increasingly frantic messages asking, “DID THE CHEESE PHOTO UPLOAD?” DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission. It’s fun. It’s also absolute chaos. And somehow, every year, we do it again. So, how exactly do we cover 30+ EPCOT Food & Wine Festival booths in one day? Grab a tiny plastic fork. We’re taking you backstage. It Starts MONTHS Before the Festival Opening day may be the main event, but our Food & Wine Festival coverage starts long before anyone hands us our first suspiciously tiny $9 plate. Usually about five months before the festival begins, we start watching for Disney to officially confirm the dates. Then we watch. And watch. And WATCH. Food & Wine Festival At first, we’re checking weekly for announcements. As the festival gets closer, that becomes daily. We’re watching official Disney websites, Disney social media accounts, press releases, videos, and pretty much anywhere Disney might quietly drop a detail it assumes nobody will notice. We notice. A casual sentence in a Disney Parks video mentioning a new seminar? Noted. A restaurant quietly adding a festival brunch? Got it. A merchandise preview hiding a festival logo in the background? Hello, new browser tab. Food & Wine Festival Booths, entertainment, special meals, seminars, merchandise, scavenger hunts, dining packages…if Disney announces it, hints at it, whispers it into the Florida humidity, somebody on our team is probably writing it down, and then broadcasting it to the whole company “BREAKING FESTIVAL NEWS.” And then the rest of us log in with our magnifying glasses and conspiracy theories to see if this suspicious hint in the blurry background of a photo is actually a clue. Then the Menus Arrive This is where things get serious. Once Disney officially announces the Global Marketplace booths and their menus, our team starts digging through every single item. Passport And we aren’t just comparing this year’s menu with last year’s. DFB has been covering the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival since 2009. We have RECEIPTS. Editors from the website and our guidebooks work with the social team to investigate basically everything Disney has decided to put on a festival plate. Is this actually a new dish? Was something remarkably similar served four years ago under a slightly different name? Have we eaten it before? Did we love it? Did we hate it? Was it once a Best of the Fest contender? Has the recipe changed? Has the presentation changed? Did Disney add a drizzle of sauce and decide this is now an entirely different entrée? We know your tricks, EPCOT. If something is genuinely new, we’re almost certainly getting it. And even when something is returning, we often get it again because recipes, portion sizes, presentations, and quality can change from year to year. This is how we generally end up purchasing somewhere in the neighborhood of 94% of the festival. Yes. Ninety-four percent. Including a LOT of beverages. Full Spread 2023 Opening day is not the moment to discover your assigned booth has three beer flights. We Build the Festival Battle Plan Once we know what we need to try, everything goes into what can only be described as the Festival Plan Cauldron. Editors have priorities. Social media has priorities. The video team has priorities. Our guidebooks need information. And somewhere in there, several dozen menu items are staring back at us, demanding to be eaten before somebody melts into World Showcase Lagoon. Finisher Prize Then we figure out who is going to EPCOT. That sounds simple until you remember our reporters are actual human beings. Some have food allergies. Some have dietary restrictions. Some don’t drink alcohol. Some have foods they simply cannot or will not eat. So we make sure assignments work for the people actually covering them. Grilled Bushberry-spiced Shrimp Skewer And reporters who can’t eat much at a particular festival? They’re still BUSY. Food is only one part of an EPCOT festival. Someone needs photos of the decorations, entertainment, crowds, merchandise, scavenger hunts, festival passports, and all those little details that make EPCOT feel different during festival season. Yes, Germany’s tiny train town might make the assignment list. The trains deserve journalism, too. The mug has a Mickey glove handle! We also make sure everyone has the appropriate park admission and reservations they need because there would be something particularly tragic about spending months planning opening-day coverage only to have someone standing outside EPCOT texting, “So…tiny problem.” The Home Team Starts Cooking, Too While reporters are preparing for EPCOT, a huge chunk of the operation is happening nowhere near Disney World. This is the part you don’t see when a review suddenly appears on DFB approximately seventeen seconds after somebody has finished swallowing. Pumpkin Before opening day, we assemble the whole team for an all-hands-on-deck type of day. The Social team is ready. Video editors are ready. Photo editors are ready. Website editors are ready. Scriptwriters are ready. Our guidebook team is ready. Gyoza of the Galaxy Full Spread 2026 And then there is our Festival Queen, sitting at the center of this enormous information spiderweb, directing photos, videos, tasting notes, assignments, updates, and approximately eight thousand other moving pieces toward the correct people. Opening day requires reporters, editors, writers, photographers, video editors, scriptwriters, social media professionals, designers, and more. It takes a village. A village with big opinions about the cheese soup. Festival Morning Starts EARLY Eventually, opening day arrives. For our EPCOT reporters, that means getting to the park bright and early. World Showcase and most of its festival booths may not open until later in the morning, but the festival itself is already waking up. There are decorations to photograph. Festival passports to find. Merchandise to inspect. Entertainment to document. And locations like Connections Café & Eatery or Sunshine Seasons may already have festival offerings available. Banner We do not waste perfectly good festival hours. While reporters gather that early information, the home team is already online. Writers are waiting for tasting notes. Photo editors are watching upload folders. Social media is waiting for video. Editors are updating festival pages. The video team is grabbing footage. Scriptwriters are assembling information for upcoming videos. Mickey-shaped Celebration Macaron Then World Showcase opens. And all heck breaks loose. Eat. Photograph. Upload. Repeat. Our Reporters Come PREPARED Festival opening day is not the time to realize your phone battery is at 11%. Your phone is your camera, notebook, video recorder, communication system, upload device, map, and occasionally the object you stare at while wondering why one photo is taking SIX MINUTES TO UPLOAD. Park essentials So our reporters arrive prepared: Portable chargers are non-negotiable. Sometimes multiple portable chargers. Food trays are enormously helpful because one person may suddenly find themselves carrying enough festival food to cater a small wedding. Wet wipes are essential for messy hands, sticky tables, and desserts that did not survive their glamour shots. Hand sanitizer? Obviously. Travel cutlery can save the day when a booth runs out of disposable forks approximately two bites before you desperately need one. Then there’s the standard Florida survival gear: ponchos, umbrellas, neck fans, portable fans, and whatever else prevents opening-day reporting from turning into EPCOT Survivor. Mini tripods help capture those cheese pulls and close-up shots you see online. Soft cloths keep phone screens and camera lenses clean. Get a food tray! And one particularly underrated piece of equipment is a phone cooling case. Phones overheat in Florida. A LOT. Normally, you can put your phone down for a while and let it recover. On festival day? Absolutely not. There are 47 notifications waiting, three photos uploading, a writer asking whether the sauce was spicy, social media needs that vertical video, and your next booth assignment is calling. Your phone cannot take a spa break. Meanwhile, At Home… The home team has its own version of festival survival. It involves fewer portable fans and significantly more staring at progress bars. Caramel-Apple Cheesecake Baumkuchen Imagine the perfect food photo finally coming through. You download it, edit it, save it, upload it…and then realize there was another angle you liked better. You JUST saw it, but in the time it took to finish that one photo, 38 more have arrived, somebody sent over tasting notes, Slack has lit up with six new notifications, a video file dropped into the folder, and an editor is waiting on the article. Naturally, this is also the exact moment your photo-editing software decides it needs an update. Before long, even stepping away from your desk to go to the bathroom starts to feel like abandoning your post in the middle of battle. Cider flight Opening-day coverage has a very specific rhythm. “I’ll just finish this one thing.” Famous last words. Constant Communication Is Everything Throughout the day, the reporters and home team are essentially attached by an invisible information leash. Where are you? Did you get the photo? Did that upload? Is the booth sold out? Can you grab another angle? Was that spicy? Which beer is which in this flight? Was there alcohol in that? Did the portion seem smaller? Can you photograph the sign? Is it raining? WHY IS IT RAINING SIDEWAYS? Okay, Florida, you can stop being so Florida now Plans also change constantly. A booth can run out of something. A menu item may suddenly be unavailable. Crowds may explode in one area. Florida can drop an entire bathtub of rain on EPCOT without consulting our schedule. Sometimes a reporter finishes early and jumps over to help someone else. Sometimes an assignment gets shifted. Sometimes somebody’s meticulously photographed food becomes lunch for an extremely ambitious bird. We adapt. Mostly because there is no other option. Be wary, he might after your fries. Eventually, Everyone Gets VERY Full There comes a point during every festival coverage day when eating stops sounding like a reward. This is hard to explain until you’ve spent hours tasting bite after bite after bite after bite. One more slider. One more dumpling. One more dessert. One more cocktail. One more spoonful of something involving truffle. Eventually, someone announces that they physically cannot consume another morsel. And then somebody else checks the assignment sheet. There are four booths left. Godspeed. Full Spread at 2025 Primavera Kitchen This is also why having a team matters so much. Nobody should have to personally consume an entire EPCOT festival. We divide, conquer, share bites, compare opinions, and occasionally stare at the next plate with the forlorn expression of someone who once believed unlimited festival food sounded exciting. Then We Do It All Again By the end of opening day, everyone is exhausted. The reporters have walked miles through EPCOT in the Florida heat while eating enough small plates to build one enormous, deeply confusing meal. The home team has spent hours writing, editing, cropping, uploading, publishing, updating, messaging, and trying to remember whether the ravioli photo was IMG_4827 or IMG_4872. There have probably been technical problems. There may have been rain. Something almost certainly melted. Someone has probably spilled a beverage into a bag. And somewhere along the way, a bird committed a misdemeanor. That’s one way to carry food in your park bag… But we also got to spend the entire day talking about Disney food with people who care about it every bit as much as we do. That’s the weird little secret behind these massive festival days. Yes, they’re stressful. They are LONG. There are moments when everyone involved is one failed upload away from wishing they’d never heard of Adobe Lightroom. Full spread But they’re also ridiculously fun. Our coworkers are texting encouragement from across EPCOT. Someone at home is celebrating because the photo finally uploaded. Reporters are helping other reporters finish their assignments. Writers are shouting virtually about an unexpectedly great dish. The social team is watching everyone fall in love with something we tasted 20 minutes earlier. And by the end of the day, we’ve somehow taken one enormous, messy, delicious festival and turned it into reviews, photos, videos, guides, posts, updates, and recommendations that can help YOU decide what’s actually worth your money. Full spread We get paid to eat Disney food and go to Disney World. There are worse jobs. Even when there is bubble tea in your backpack. So the next time you see us declare something Best of the Fest just hours after the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival opens, know there was an entire tiny-food command center behind it. Disney is all about changing things up right now, and that’s evident with all the construction that’s happening just about everywhere, including in Magic Kingdom. In fact, Magic Kingdom might be the theme park that’s changing the most. The park is not only getting a Frontierland Cars-themed expansion, but also a new land, Villains Land. Diamond Horseshoe But a Magic Kingdom restaurant is changing up its game soon, too. Diamond Horseshoe will soon become a sort of pop-up restaurant with a brand new menu, and now we have a first look at that full menu! The Diamond Horseshoe is currently the location of Jessie’s Roundup, a Toy Story-themed experience that’s part of Cool KIDS SUMMER. However, when Cool KIDS SUMMER ends on September 8th, at which time Diamond Horseshoe will close and reopen on October 4th with a limited-time pop-up dining experience. Disney made a litany of announcements at the 2026 D23 Ultimate Fan Event, revealing new details on upcoming theme lands, a new class of Disney Cruise Line ships, and even some major surprises. However, few could be described as more “long-awaited” than the confirmation that the Yeti on Expedition Everest was FINALLY going to be fixed. Expedition Everest When the Animal Kingdom coaster first opened in 2006, the Yeti animatronic was hailed as the largest and most advanced Disney had ever built. The massive free-moving animatronic Yeti in the center of the “Forbidden Mountain” was one of the ride’s main promotional points teased in commercials and being discussed in Travel Channel documentaries. However, within months of opening, the Yeti was stuck in B-Mode. The animatronic was unmoving, with strobe lights pulsating to give the illusion of movement, hence the nom de plume “Disco Yeti”). This was allegedly due to structural damage the powerful animatronic was doing to the mountain when fully operational over the years. Disney officials, including Joe Rohde himself, made numerous claims that the Yeti was going to be fixed, but nothing came of them officially… until NOW! While the announcement and performance were met with a massively positive reaction, Disney didn’t confirm many major details of the project, including whether the Yeti animatronic was being fully replaced, or even a timeline for when the project was set to begin. However, for the latter, we can extrapolate an estimate. ©Disney Whether the Yeti is being fully replaced or simply reworked, it stands to reason that Expedition Everest is going to be closed for some period of time during the refurbishment. That seems unlikely to happen right now, since the coaster is one of only 5 rides currently operating at Animal Kingdom during the construction of Tropical Americas. Cranes! That new land – – complete with the new rides Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, and El Carrusel de los Animalitos (AKA The Little Animals’ Carousel) – – is scheduled to open in 2027. Once those three attractions are up and running in the faux village of Pueblo Esperanza, it will be much easier for Disney to close Expedition Everest for even a semi-extended period of time to fix the Yeti. We’re so excited for this to open! While Disney has confirmed that they’ll finally be fixing the star animatronic on Expedition Everest, you’ll likely still be able to boogie down with the “Disco Yeti” through sometime in 2027. Staying at a Disney World hotel on your trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth comes with a TON of perks. Typhoon Lagoon When you stay on-site at Disney, you can get benefits like Early Theme Park Entry each day, plus Extended Evening Hours depending on which at which hotel you stay, and the 7-day booking window for Lightning Lanes. Being closer to the parks is a huge perk, and you can enjoy free transportation as well. Hotel guests could also take advantage of free tickets to Disney’s water parks throughout this summer, but that perk is ending soon, and Typhoon Lagoon is also closing for annual refurbishment soon! Heads up, water park fans! Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will be closing on September 9th for its annual refurbishment. Guests will be able to enjoy Blizzard Beach during the closure, and it’s expected that when Typhoon Lagoon reopens in the following months, Blizzard Beach will then close for its refurbishment. That way, come spring and summer of 2027, both water parks will be open again. Typhoon Lagoon Disney World has been offering free water park entry to resort guests on their check-in day, from May 26th, 2026 through September 8th, 2026. As long as Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon are open, everyone staying in your Disney World hotel room can access these water parks for free on check-in day! It’s a great way to spend your check-in day, especially if you didn’t already have plans. Typhoon Lagoon But once September 9th hits and Cool Kids’ Summer comes to an end, this perk will no longer be available. The good news is that Disney has confirmed it will return for summer 2027. Disney World has dozens of construction projects happening right now, but some of the largest ones are happening across the parks. ©Disney EPCOT is currently the only park not with a massive land addition in the works, and Magic Kingdom has TWO new lands in the works as we speak. One of those lands is Piston Peak, the new Cars-themed area on the way, and Disney just took a big step forward in planning for construction, though it may not look like it. Why? Well, because it just looked like giant balloons in the air, but they were VERY important. It was also their job to look at the concept art and remember what part of the land would be where each balloon was, and think about how it’ll blend in with the land around it. For example, will the snow-capped mountain block views of Cinderella Castle from the land, or other areas of the park, and will it blend in with Cinderella Castle’s recent lighter paint job from afar? How about some of the new buildings — will they blend in with the rest of Frontierland, and even Haunted Mansion since it’s gotten a paint job? Yes, Imagineers have to think about all of this BEFORE the construction actually begins. ©Disney Yes, this also very likely means that balloon tests are completed for lots of major new land additions, such as Villains Land (though that one may not have happened yet) and Galaxy’s Edge. Ever noticed how seamlessly lands sometimes turn into one another, or how it’s hard to see Disney’s Contemporary Resort from certain parts of Magic Kingdom? It’s time to get scary… and scared! Halloween Horror Nights has officially arrived at Universal Orlando, and we are THERE on the very first night. Of course, we’re checking out all the haunted houses, but more importantly, we’re checking out all the food. Meat Grinder Red Velvet Halloween Horror Nights runs on select nights in August, September, and October through November 1st at Universal Studios Florida, and the event features exclusive food and drinks you can’t get at the parks during the day. So let’s talk about everything we ate and drank at the party! We’re starting with the Birria Pizza Fries at the DreamWorks Imagination Cafe for $13.99. These are French fries topped with birria beef, mozzarella cheese, onions, and cilantro. Birria Pizza Fries The Birria is melt-in-your-mouth tender, with quite a good portion of Birria. The cheese is nice and melted, and every fry had a good amount of cheese. The diced onions on top add a little crunch, and the chopped cilantro has that soapy flavor, so you might not like these if you’re not a cilantro fan. However, we think these are a hit, and would like to see them return next year! Birria Pizza Fries To satisfy our frightful sweet tooth, we made our way over to Fearful Fare to try the Meat Grinder Red Velvet for $8.99. Now, this thing is… well… it looks gross. It’s freshly ground red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and puffed rice maggots. You have to give Universal an A+ for most terrifying food presentation, right? Meat Grinder Red Velvet Texturally, this was straight mush. It’s a very soft, mushy cake topped with a ton of soft frosting. There weren’t enough puffed rice pieces to add a substantial crunch. Taste-wise, this was very yummy chocolate cake, and the red sauce was a sweet strawberry sauce. If you like chocolate cake, then it’s a fun twist on a classic, but you probably won’t like it if you need some bite in your dessert. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando has a reputation for bringing the scares to those people brave enough to buy a ticket to the event. Thanks to its themed haunted houses, scare zones, and scare actors just waiting to make people scream, some folks might be a little too afraid to actually give the event a chance, which is understandable. Deathly Afraid Lanyard The thing is… there actually IS more to Halloween Horror Nights than being terrified, and for those who want to experience the event without the jump scares and scare actors in their face, there’s an option to avoid that: the Deathly Afraid lanyard. We tested out the Deathly Afraid Lanyard to see if it actually works. So what is a Deathly Afraid Lanyard? Well, it’s a lanyard that you can buy at one of Universal’s shops for $20 that you can wear around your neck during Halloween Horror Nights. The lanyard has a bright red disk that lets scare actors know that you are off-limits. So it basically signals to scare actors to leave you alone in scare zones and other common areas. However, it does not protect you in haunted houses — but you can easily avoid those if you don’t want to be scared. Make sure it’s lit up! We purchased a Deathly Afraid Lanyard at the Universal Studios Store to see if it really does work. So we put it around our neck and walked through some scare zones. In our experience, scare actors did not approach us at all, and we were, more or less, left alone. So in that sense, it does exactly what it’s supposed to. Sideshow of Decay We struggled in FORTNITEMARES, where we were scared by a few scare actors. But in every other scare zone, the Deathly Afraid Lanyard worked extremely well! Scary! As far as the battery life goes on this thing, it lasted all evening, so we didn’t have to worry about it running out of juice and leaving us at the mercy of scare actors. Deathly Afraid Lanyard Overall, if you’re someone who wants to experience Halloween Horror Nights without being targeted by scare actors, the Deathly Afraid Lanyard will be your best friend. It gives you a chance to explore everything else the event has to offer without having to be afraid someone is going to jump out and try to scare you when you least expect it. Like we said, there are other ways to enjoy Halloween Horror Nights, including watching some of the unique entertainment and eating the event-exclusive snacks and drinks. Meat Grinder Red Velvet However, if you’re still a little worried about how scary this event could be, you could always get tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom instead. This event is more family-friendly, and the only thing that might scare you is the ticket price (just kidding…we think it could be totally worth it!). When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. If it feels overwhelming, we totally get it, and that’s why we’re here to help. Yachtsman Steakhouse Desserts We recently stopped by Yachtsman Steakhouse as Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, which just recently reopened after a months-long closure, to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth after its recent refurbishment? Let’s find out! Atmosphere Yachtsman Steakhouse is a New England-style steakhouse with premium steaks, fresh seafood, and more on the menu. As it’s one of Disney World’s signature dining restaurants, you can expect a more sophisticated vibe in the restaurant’s menu offerings, decor, and theming, especially with the new refurbishment touches to the already beautiful atmosphere. We will say, we’ve noticed that it’s very loud in this restaurant no matter when we visit, so it might not be the right place for a more intimate dinner. Yachtsman Steakhouse But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu The menu you’ll find here is incredible and features a gourmet array of steaks, entrees, appetizers, and desserts. If you’re looking for great steak, this is absolutely a restaurant to be on your radar. You’ll find starters, Butcher’s Cuts, a Sauce Flight, Enhancements, Land and Sea Entrées, and Steakhouse Sides. Menu And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we got the Bread Service, which is complimentary. We were served Sourdough and Onion Bread Rolls with Butter, topped with Pink Himalayan Sea Salt and Roasted Garlic. It’s a warm, welcoming way to start the meal, and we love that the onion flavor comes through enough to be present but not overwhelming. Bread Service Next was the French Onion Soup for $15, and this was one of the best French Onion Soups we’ve ever had. There was so much cheese on top and every bite had the longest cheese pull we’ve ever seen, every time. French Onion Soup The soup itself was so flavorful, with a really salty and rich taste, without being overbearing. We would absolutely get this again and again. Delicious We also grabbed the 14oz Roasted Prime Rib for $60. Our reporter described this as “unbelievable” and said it’s the best thing they’ve ever eaten here. It was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the horseradish sauce served with it was creamy, salty, and had a little kick. 14oz Roasted Prime Rib The au jus was a little weak in flavor and wasn’t as salty as we expected, though the Yorkshire pudding was very, very salty, a little too much so. It was, however, very airy and fluffy, and a little cheesy. Consider us impressed! Finally, we got the Yachtsman Signature Chocolate Cake for $17. This was a very moist chocolate cake with a lighter chocolate flavor, not super rich or bitter like dark chocolate. Yachtsman Signature Chocolate Cake If you are not the biggest fan of chocolate like our reporter, we still think you would enjoy this, as the chocolate isn’t too intense. We do wish there was a little more coffee flavor to it, however, and we weren’t really able to taste the raspberry sauce or the caramel sauce. Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… If you want “steakhouse night” that feels like you temporarily joined a yacht club and now have opinions about scotch, Yachtsman Steakhouse is exactly that. It’s tucked inside Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and leans classic, polished, and calmer than a lot of Disney dining. It’s a strong date-night pick, a celebratory dinner pick, or a “we need a quiet room and a serious protein” pick. If your group is a mix of adventurous and picky. It still works because the menu is pretty straightforward at its core: steaks, seafood, and steakhouse sides, with a few elevated comfort options sprinkled in. If you’re doing Dining Plan strategy (or just bracing yourself emotionally for the bill), this is Disney Signature Dining. It typically runs 2 table-service credits per person on the Dining Plan, and pricing lines up with that “special occasion” tier. You should skip this Disney World spot if… If you’re trying to keep things budget-friendly, this is not your “casual dinner after the pool” spot. Typical pricing as appetizers in the teens/low 20s, entrées well into the $38–$65 range, and a three-course meal often landing around $80–$95 per person before drinks and gratuity. If you’ve got little kids who need loud, fast, and entertaining, this can feel too slow and too grown-up. It’s a steakhouse pace, and the vibe is more “quiet conversation” than “Disney chaos in a cowboy hat.” If your party is coming straight from the pool. Disney’s dress code is “clean, neat” and specifically says no swimwear, so plan accordingly. Overall We love the Yachtsman, and while we love the food, the noise level always throws us off. The food is immaculate, the service is top-notch, and the refurbishment is well done, preserving the things that already made the restaurant beautiful on the inside. Being tucked away in the middle of six Disney hotels and two different theme parks, it still retains its warm and cozy feeling, miraculously. However, while the lighting is dim and low-stimulating, the noise in here always seems to be overly loud, so make sure you’re prepared before heading over.
