  2. Work is underway on an all-new Coco attraction coming to Disneyland Resort! Following a live performance of La Llorona by Grammy-winning artists Los Lobos, Disney superfan and host of the Disney Experiences showcase Neil Patrick Harris was joined by Walt Disney Imagineers with big announcements to share. Ali Rubinstein (Senior Vice President, Global Cretive & Development Studios) and Emily O’Brien (Portflio Executive Creative Producer, Disneyland Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort) took to the stage at Horizons: A Carousel of Progress at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event presented by Visa, revealing new details about the first Coco ride ever at a Disney park, which was first announced at D23 2024. Stepping into the colorful, wonderful world of Disney and Pixar’s Coco, fans will be able to spot favorite friends like Miguel, Dante, Héctor, and more as we remember Miguel’s unforgettable trip to the Land of the Dead. As we heard last night, Disney and Pixar’s Coco 2 is well underway, and Imagineers are working closely with Pixar to ensure this family-friendly attraction nods to both the original and upcoming film.  This attraction will celebrate all the things we love about Coco, highlighting the characters, music, Mexican culture, and the love of a family that’s passed down through the generations.  The attraction storyline will pick up a year after the events of the original film. The queue, which will begin in Pixar Pier next to Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, welcomes you to a “casa museo” dedicated to the music of Miguel’s great-great grandfather, Héctor Rivera. From there, you’ll join Miguel and travel by boat through his memories of the Land of the Dead. It will truly be a beautiful, moving experience full of fun and surprises, leaning heavily into the music and emotion of the cherished Pixar film while inviting you to live Miguel’s journey alongside your own friends and family. And it’ll be a ride the whole family can enjoy, as there will be no height requirement. Construction on the attraction is currently in progress in the area near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. Walt Disney Imagineering is also continuing to draw inspiration from classic attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion for the development of this attraction, bringing the skeletal cast of characters to life through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology.  No need to say goodbye and let it make you cry – keep checking Disney Parks Blog for even more updates about this highly-anticipated ride, coming to Disney California Adventure! 3. A new Indiana Jones ride is replacing DINOSAUR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While Disney has already announced that this will be a brand-new ride and story, we haven’t received many more details than that. Dinosaur There is already an Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland Park which has an almost identical ride system and track to DINOSAUR at Disney World. However, Disney promised that the ride would not be an exact copy in Disney World, and we just got MORE details about what to expect with the DINOSAUR retheme in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We just got some HUGE news from Disney! While we knew Indiana Jones was coming to Animal Kingdom, we just found out more details on what the retheme entails. Previously, all Disney had released was that the Indiana Jones ride will feature a brand-new story. As described by Disney, the attraction will follow “the man with the hat” during a time when he has “recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.” New Indiana Jones Ride ©Disney Now we know even more! Disney has officially announced that the name of the attraction in Animal Kingdom will be Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent! ©Disney It was also revealed that Disney Legend Harrison Ford is the actual model for the next Indiana Jones animatronic, and Ford himself confirmed in a message to the crowd that this is the first time he’ll be the face seen on a Disney attraction anywhere in the world. ©Disney As for the inspiration behind the name and storyline, it was explained that in Mayan mythology, the entrance to the underworld is protected by a giant serpent. The ride will feature an original story with a “confrontation at the end that is jaw-dropping in every way.” The story takes place in 1950 before Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As Indy gets close to the Mayan artifact he’s seeking, he gets sucked into a portal to the underworld, kicking off an all-out chase to escape before time runs out. He’ll face all kinds of dangers, including bats, scorpions, and flames. ©Disney The new Indiana Jones ride will be a part of the rethemed Tropical Americas land called Pueblo Esperanza. This land is replacing DinoLand, U.S.A. and will also feature an Encanto ride. This new land is expected to make its debut in 2027. 5. We may not talk about Bruno here on Disney Parks Blog, but we certainly can talk about the Encanto attraction coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park at Walt Disney World! This new development will be one of two headlining attractions that will find a home in the new land, Tropical Americas, and we just received an abundance of updates from “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa.  Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation Studios Jared Bush, who also happens to be the writer and director of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto, took to the Honda Center stage, giving fans a preview into how this lively land is coming together, including brand new details about the story and inspiration behind the Encanto attraction.  New Details About the Encanto Attraction at Animal Kingdom Jared reflected on the events of last night’s Studios showcase, where a sensational slate of upcoming films was shared with an enthusiastic audience. When asked by actor Skylar Astin what it’s like bringing those movies to life in the form of theme park experiences, he fondly recalled a legacy that traces all the way back to Walt Disney’s original dream for Disneyland. Walt wanted a place where films could be pulled from the screen and into the real world in a transformative, tangible way, and credits the new Encanto attraction as being a key part of this rich history.  The first big reveal came with confirmation of the attraction’s official name: Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. As previously shared, guests will be invited to celebrate Antonio’s new gift, which is the ability to communicate with animals. And the heartwarming message of this adventure is that we are all part of the familia of living things, regardless of our special gifts or abilities.  Voice actors from Disney Animation’s Encanto return to Casita to lend their voices, including Stephanie Beatriz, Jessica Darrow, and Diane Guerrero, playing the roles of Mirabel, Luisa, and Isabella, respectively. A behind-the-scenes video of them recording was shared for the crowd, with Jessica explaining that “it’s sort of a perfect film to take all these colors and excitement out of and allow audiences to immerse themselves in it.”  Another helpful tidbit we learned? There will be no height requirement for the attraction, so it’s a fun family-friendly item to add to your Animal Kingdom itinerary.  What Will the Encanto Attraction Be Like? Jared shared that one of the most fun parts of working with Imagineers on this project has been to expand the world of Encanto as we know it by creating new parts of the Madrigal house you never see in the film. Since the attraction takes place on Antonio’s gift day, a sacred and special occasion for the family, riders are invited to Casita as part of a cheerful celebration.  When you enter the house, you’ll board a ride vehicle meant to represent the different pieces of furniture assembled by the power of Casita to carry you through the rooms. They feel lively and dynamic, reacting like characters themselves to the scenes unfolding around you, which feels so perfectly representative of what we felt from the film.  Jared showed a new rendering that details how you’ll move through the house, eventually ending upstairs in Antonio’s room. The space has been transformed into a verdant rainforest, overflowing with animal species of many shapes and sizes. In total, there are more than 50 animals represented inside the attraction, and we got to see a first glimpse at some of them in action, including a very cute capybara receiving a hair trim, along with a toucan and donkey.  Imagineer Joan Hartwig had previously given us an inside look at the research trip that the team had taken to Colombia, where they saw firsthand how certain colors, materials, and structures interact with things like climate, terrain, and the overall culture of the region. This mission of telling authentic stories with extreme care and attention to detail is present throughout the entire project process – we learned today that Walt Disney Imagineering partnered with Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Team to make sure all of the animals included in the attraction are accurate to Colombia.  Learn More About El Carrusel de los Animalitos New photos revealed during the presentation showed the progress on construction in the Tropical Americas land, with things starting to really take shape. One of the other attractions that guests of all ages can experience here is the beautiful animal-themed carousel, which was announced today as officially being called  El Carrusel de los Animalitos.  22 figures of hand-carved animals from beloved Disney and Pixar stories will make up this relaxing ride, and you may have spotted some in the Walt Disney Imagineering pavilion on the show floor this weekend. El Carrusel de los Animalitos is a uniquely Animal Kingdom-inspired adaptation of a classic Disney attraction, and I can’t wait to see it come to life.  What Else Can I Expect From Tropical Americas? As previously announced during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, Tropical Americas is the newest land being built in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating the myths and magic of the rainforest.  In addition to Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto and El Carrusel de los Animalitos, an all-new Indiana Jones adventure called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent will be a highlight of the land for guests who love a good adventure. You can read more about this exhilarating experience here on Disney Parks Blog.  Final food and beverage plans are still being cooked up, but guests will enjoy eating at a large hacienda, which will be one of the largest quick-service restaurants in all of Walt Disney World Resort property. And we can of course expect some spots for souvenir shopping as well, along with a play area inspired by the Maya, where young explorers can unearth artifacts through hands-on play.  Don’t miss out on more updates and news from D23 2026 and stay tuned for future news as Tropical Americas continues to blossom at Animal Kingdom.   The post Step Inside Casita: Discover New Details About the Encanto Ride at Animal Kingdom appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 7. Indiana Jones has spent a lifetime uncovering hidden temples, ancient mysteries, and legendary artifacts across the globe. And during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event presented by Visa, we’re excavating a few discoveries of our own with brand-new details about the Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park at Walt Disney World Resort.  During the Disney Experiences showcase, “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress,” Imagineers Michael Hundgen and Chris Beatty revealed a treasure trove of announcements about everyone’s favorite hero with a snake grudge. The attraction will live in the vibrant, lush new land of Tropical Americas, and includes revolutionary Audio-Animatronics figures, an original storyline, and one grand escapade that transports guests into the world of the ancient Maya alongside Indiana Jones, in a way that only Animal Kingdom could.  So, grab your field journal and fedora, and let’s uncover these exciting new updates!  Harrison Ford Revealed as Animatronic Model  Everyone in the audience was delighted to receive a message from Indy himself, Disney Legend Harrison Ford, to kick things off.  After expressing his gratitude to fans for being along for the ride on so many adventures with this beloved character, Ford briefly shared that he is the actual model for the next Indiana Jones animatronic. He confirmed that this is the first time he will be the face you see on a Disney attraction anywhere in the world.  Michael and Chris resurfaced this news later in the showcase, proudly displaying the digital model that is being used to build the Audio-Animatronics figure. What is the New Indiana Jones Attraction Called?  The next major announcement from the presentation came from Michael and Chris, as the duo confirmed the name of the attraction publicly for the first time. We are pleased to share that Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent is the title of this next installment of Indy’s adventures at Disney parks.   What Inspired the Indiana Jones Attraction? Also revealed today were the first details about the ride’s cultural inspiration, new storyline, and the experience guests will have once entering the temple and embarking on this breathtaking quest.  Imagineers were eager to blend the thrill of a classic Indiana Jones adventure with the rich cultural details that are quintessential to Animal Kingdom, a park that is dedicated to creatures both real and imagined. The attraction takes riders on a journey alongside Indy, beneath an ancient temple ruin, showcasing Maya culture and its profound connection to nature – perfectly fitting for this park.  Michael and Chris shared that the temple entrance is being built as we speak, and gave a behind-the-scenes look at the stunning facade, which up until now we have only seen in renderings.  They continued to share that the project team remains dedicated to authentic storytelling, working closely with archaeologists, anthropologists, and Maya experts to ensure that every element is accurate for the region. Riders will be awed by the highly detailed and original Maya artwork found in the attraction, and I can’t wait to get a first glimpse at some of these pieces.  What is the Storyline of the Indiana Jones Attraction?  You’ll rendezvous with Dr. Jones, who is in the midst of exploring this mysterious temple near a once water-filled underground cave, called a cenote. Local legend says the passageway leads directly to the Maya Underworld, and is protected by a serpentine creature: the Tsukán. Michael and Chris provided an animated first look at one of the key scenes. And they shared that the adventure takes off when riders are unwittingly sucked through a portal to the Underworld, where they’ll have to escape perilous dangers, like monstrous bats, larger-than-life scorpions, fire and flame, and of course, snakes.  You may be asking, “why’d it have to be snakes?” and Imagineers have a great answer to that. Chris divulged that you’ll encounter  the Tsukán throughout the attraction, including a final confrontation that will probably solidify your fear of snakes for the rest of time (speaking for myself here, at least).  A first look at the gigantic Audio-Animatronics figure was showcased to the crowd, revealing how it completely towers over the Imagineers bringing it to life. Not only that, but the team is taking great care to sculpt the figure by hand, which will make it that much more life-like, and snake-fear-inducing, for guests.  More Details About Tropical Americas During the showcase, Disney Imagineers shared that this attraction is part of the biggest slate of expansion projects in the history of Disney World, so getting an inside look at this extraordinary feat was such a special treat.  We first learned of Tropical Americas during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, where then Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed the new 11-acre section being added to Animal Kingdom. The sprawling land will contain two headlining attractions inspired by Indiana Jones and Disney’s Encanto, in addition to shopping and dining.  Additionally, families visiting Tropical Americas will find plenty to discover, including El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a brand-new carousel featuring 22 hand-carved animals inspired by Disney and Pixar stories — spot the likes of Scuttle, Squirt, Pua, Pascal, Simba, Eeyore, Kuzco, Heimlich, and more. Young adventurers can continue the journey in a nearby play area inspired by the Maya, where young explorers can unearth artifacts and investigate the natural wonders of the rainforest through hands-on exploration and play.  In recent months, the Imagineers have divulged details about their research trips to places like Honduras, where they’ve learned firsthand about the region’s culture, customs, and folklore. Their experience with native artistry and architecture has served as inspiration when crafting the new land, specifically for the Indiana Jones attraction leveraging observations from the Copán site, one of the most well-preserved cities of the ancient Maya civilization.  Stay tuned here to Disney Parks Blog for more Indiana Jones, Tropical Americas, and D23 2026 updates. I’ve got a great feeling about this!  The post Exploration Awaits: New Updates Unearthed for Indiana Jones Ride at Animal Kingdom appeared first on Disney Parks Blog. 18. Okay, everybody stay calm, because something BIG is about to happen in Disney World, and it’s something we would have NEVER guessed would happen in a million years (and no, we’re not exaggerating). ©Disney As you may know, the Yeti on Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom doesn’t work because it was causing stress on the roller coaster. So instead, Disney just put like a flashing effect on it to make it look at least a little scary (hence its nickname, Disco Yeti). BUT…y’all…Disney must have figured something out because the company just announced the Yeti audio-animatronic is coming back to life. The Yeti hasn’t been working in over 20 years, so this is a pretty huge deal for pretty much any Expedition Everest fan. Now, Disney did not yet give a timeline on when the work on the Yeti might begin, but we expect we’ll get an announcement about an Expedition Everest closure to make it happen soon. And when that happens, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for more! 4 Shocking Disney World Changes That Got Swept Under the Rug Join the DFB Newsletter to get all the breaking news right in your inbox! 22. On the “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” stage at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event presented by Visa, Neil Patrick Harris was interrupted by Thomas Mazloum, Chairman, Disney Experiences. It was time for an announcement big enough to shake a mountain to its core: “We’re bringing the Yeti back to life inside Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!” Cheers rocked the crowd, louder than the screech of a legendary beast. As beasts of legend are soothed with song, Gloria Gaynor gave our long-dancing yeti an epic send-off. She paid tribute to our loveable Yeti as only she could, performing her 1978 disco hit, “I Will Survive.” Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom Nestled inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a majestic (and nearly 200-foot) Forbidden Mountain houses a legendary secret. From the moment you enter the queue, the lore of the yeti comes alive, as you peruse a trailside museum featuring evidence of campground attacks, sketches of sightings, and even a footprint mold of a giant yeti foot. Once you’ve boarded an old tea train car and climbed the rocky peaks, you’ll notice a few more obvious signs of the mysterious guardian of the mountain during the high-speed ride, including a few torn train tracks. Inspired by the northwest face of Mount Everest and geological elements found in Tibet and Nepal, Expedition Everest is the perfect hideout for even the most discerning yeti. Stay tuned to Disney Parks Blog. We’ll have all the latest news on this star of the Himalayas. 23. We now know the future of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. As Neil Patrick Harris was talking about outer space on the “Horizons: A Carousel of Progress” stage at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event presented by Visa, conversation naturally shifted to our favorite geodesic sphere from the ‘80s. Makes sense. How can you talk about the future of Disney Experiences without discussing the iconic attraction that celebrates humanity’s march from the caves to the cosmos and inspires guests to imagine, create, and build a better tomorrow. Joining him onstage to talk about the engineering marvel were Disney Imagineer Ali Rubinstein and YouTuber Mark Rober. This dynamic duo gave a nice refresher on the iconic opening day EPCOT attraction before jumping into the anticipated news. For the first time in nearly 20 years, Spaceship Earth is getting an update. The Evolution of Spaceship Earth Before our ride vehicle turns around and takes us into the future, let’s celebrate the legacy of Spaceship Earth, a groundbreaking attraction that has inspired guests for generations. Fun Facts about Spaceship Earth Walter Cronkite narrated a script that was added to the attraction in 1986. In fact, since opening, there have been four narrators for Spaceship Earth. The structure is called a “geodesic sphere” because it’s a perfectly round structure that is supported in the air by three pillars. The attraction stands at 180 feet tall with 2.2 million cubic square feet of space inside the geosphere. Spaceship Earth is one of the most complicated ride systems Walt Disney Imagineering has ever created because the ride incorporates a continuously moving train of vehicles that spiral up into the structure before turning “backward” to come back down to Earth. The storyline currently follows the history of human innovation, from prehistoric times to the 21st century. Like the attraction, the evolution of Spaceship Earth has been an exciting journey filled with chapters of progress, displays of ingenuity, and an endless future of invention. Updates Coming to Spaceship Earth It’s time to invent the future! At the showcase, Ali revealed that a re-imagineered Spaceship Earth will be coming to EPCOT, bringing the attraction into the internet age and beyond. What can you expect in the world of tomorrow? The ride currently tells the story of human communication, but the team is reimagining that focus on a broader theme that is still classically EPCOT – human connection. So, here’s to the next 30,000 years on Spaceship Earth. The present is just the beginning! Neil also talked about his deep love for these moments in the park, adding, “I have so many great memories under the stars with my kids. I wish I could go back in time to relive them all over again.” Well, Neil, ask and you shall receive. Some cherished and beloved entertainment is coming back to Disneyland Resort in 2027! In addition to the projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle, the show will feature new projections at Rivers of America, the facade of “it’s a small world,” and all the way down Main Street, U.S.A. Music and projections will delight guests with nightly scheduled performances, and on select evenings, the experience will be enhanced with fireworks above the skies of Disneyland park. You may remember this nighttime spectacular debuted during the 50th anniversary of the Disneyland Resort (also known as The Happiest Homecoming on Earth). Featuring a vocal introduction by the iconic Broadway and film legend Julie Andrews, “Remember… Dreams Come True” illustrates the power of wishes and dreams in favorite Disney stories. Walt Disney’s dream of Disneyland is represented by songs and familiar phrases from some of the park’s most popular attractions. Original “World of Color” Returns to California Adventure On stage, Neil also revealed that fans will soon discover an updated take on the original “World of Color” nighttime spectacular at Disney California Adventure park, starting in February 2027. This version of the show takes you on an imaginative journey into the colorful worlds of Walt Disney Animation Studios like The Little Mermaid and The Lion King, as well as Pixar Animation Studios stories Finding Nemo and Toy Story. Helping to tie it all together is a musical score that includes a special arrangement of the 1960s television theme for Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, originally composed by Richard B. and Robert M. Sherman. “Magic Happens” Parade Returns to Disneyland Just in time for summer 2027, the “Magic Happens” parade will return to Disneyland park to once again fill the streets with inspirational moments of magic from favorite Disney stories. Brought to life on a grand scale with stunning floats, artistic costumes, and imaginative music you’ll spot dynamic performers and characters in this high-energy daytime parade. Led by Mickey Mouse and his pals, the “Magic Happens” parade features distinct stories with a mix of characters, making it feel contemporary and classic, fun and regal, and surprising and familiar – all at the same time. Here, pumpkins become carriages and swords are plucked from a stone, highlighting stories from Disney Animation stories such as Cinderella and The Sword in the Stone, plus Coco from Pixar Animation Studios. 26. Tonight during Horizons: A Carousel of Progress at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event presented by Visa, filmmaker Leslie Iwerks took the stage with Walt Disney Imagineering President and Chief Creative Officer Bruce Vaughn to share exciting news with Disney fans: a second season of The Imagineering Story is officially in production and the first few episodes will debut on Disney+ next year. For nearly 75 years, Walt Disney Imagineers have been turning those ideas into experiences that connect with generations of guests around the world. During the presentation, Bruce reflected on that legacy, tracing Imagineering’s roots back to the creative team Walt Disney assembled to help bring Disneyland to life. Today, that spirit of innovation continues through a global team who are constantly finding new ways to bring Disney stories to life. Before looking ahead, Bruce paused to recognize some of the Disney Legends whose creativity helped shape the Disney experiences fans know and love today, including Tony Baxter, Wing Chao, Robert Coltrin, Bob Gurr, Joe Rohde, and Kim Irvine, who all joined him onstage. Their influence continues to inspire the next generation of Imagineers creating the future. Leslie Iwerks Returns to Tell the Next Chapter To help tell the ever-evolving Imagineering story, Bruce welcomed filmmaker Leslie Iwerks to the stage. As the creator of The Imagineering Story (and recently helmed Disneyland Handcrafted, along with Disney Worldbuilders, streaming August 20 on Disney+, she helped pull back the curtain on Walt Disney Imagineering, giving audiences a rare look at the creativity, challenges, and determination that go into building Disney Experiences. Leslie’s grandfather, Disney Legend Ub Iwerks, helped shape the earliest days of Disney animation. Her father, Disney Legend Don Iwerks, spent decades pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation. Growing up surrounded by Imagineers left a lasting impression, as she told the crowd, “I was really raised by Imagineers.” A Front-Row Seat to the Future When the first season of The Imagineering Story debuted in 2019, it chronicled decades of Disney history. But this next season will capture something different — it will follow Imagineers as they help shape one of the most ambitious periods in Disney Experiences history. According to Bruce, Leslie has been there as many of those projects have moved from blue sky concept to “dirt is moving!” reality. “So a few years ago when it was revealed that dozens of new projects were on the way, you and I started talking about how there may be a new chapter in this tale,” Leslie told Bruce, “Turns out … there are several.” “Leslie has been with us as we’ve put all these new projects in motion,” Bruce shared, adding that she has been granted unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to the creative process. For fans, that means an opportunity to see not only what Imagineers are building, but how they think. “My goal is to make you all feel like you’re right there with me on this journey,” Leslie explained. And we won’t have to wait long to see it.
