At theme parks, thrill rides are thrilling because of the fear factor. You can soar from towering heights, drop faster than gravity, and speed faster than cars, all from the safety of your ride vehicle. So when something goes wrong, things go very, very badly. ©Six Flags Over 100 riders have suffered traumatic brain injuries from a Six Flags Magic Mountain roller coaster in the last two years alone. X2 has long been the marquee attraction at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, drawing thrill-seekers from around the world with its rotating seats, near-vertical drops, and unpredictable movements. But more than 100 people say they suffered brain injuries, life-altering injuries, and deaths following a CNN investigation. ©Six Flags Three lawsuits were filed against Six Flags this week over X2 ride incidents. 26-year-old Naomi Greer-Wilkinson and 40-year-old Pamela Guillen both fell unconscious after getting off X2 and underwent emergency brain surgery for severe traumatic brain injuries. Surgeons determined their injuries were caused by “a traumatic rapid acceleration-deceleration event experienced while on the X2 ride,” according to CNN. Guillen was forced to learn how to talk and walk again and needs medication to prevent seizures, while Greer-Wilkinson remains in a coma as her parents hold onto hope that she will someday wake up. Wilk has been left disabled by his injuries, battling severe headaches, memory loss, and brain fog, and is unable to work or practice law. “My brain has difficulty processing the words, and so unless it’s extraordinarily clear and loud, my brain gets the word wrong,” he said. “I truly hope that by coming forward, changes will be made.” Michael Wilk ©KCAL/KCBS Six Flags “has been willingly gambling with people’s lives,” civil attorney Christopher Bulone said at a news conference Tuesday. “No ride like that should be allowed to exist.” Six Flags did not respond to CNN’s request, but X2 has been closed since July 12th, 2026, following medical incidents and ongoing safety reviews by California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health. ©Six Flags We’ll be sure to keep you updated on more Six Flags ride incidents. As a Marvel fan, the one thing I love about going to Disneyland is getting to see Marvel characters. It’s always fun to bump into Captain America, Thor, Loki (a personal fave of mine), Scarlet Witch, and more. It’s also nice when Marvel adds new characters to Avengers Campus, which usually happens when a new movie is about to release. Reed and Sue in Tomorrowland Well, we now have a tip that one Marvel character that hasn’t been available in Disneyland for a while may be coming back…at least in some capacity. After all, there is a HUGE Marvel movie releasing at the end of the year, so it totally makes sense. We recently spotted a new Disneyland audition notice looking for someone to portray Mr. Fantastic (aka Reed Richards, the leader of the Fantastic Four). The audition notice points out that characters like this interact with thousands of guests, signing autographs, posing for pictures, and “helping to create magical moments with guests of all ages.” ©Disney Mr. Fantastic was last seen as a character in Tomorrowland in 2025 to promote the Fantastic Four movie, which was released on July 25th, 2025. He appeared with the other Fantastic Four characters, Sue Reed (aka Invisible Woman), Human Torch, Thing, and H.E.R.B.I.E. We don’t know if this new character appearance will happen in Tomorrowland or Avengers Campus, but as it says it’s for “Special Events,” we’re guessing this might have something to do with promotion for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. ©Marvel The Fantastic Four are confirmed to be appearing in that film, so it makes sense that they might put in an appearance somewhere in Disneyland with other Marvel characters ahead of the big Doomsday premiere on December 18th. Of course, we’ll be keeping an eye out for an official announcement from Disney about the appearance of Mr. Fantastic in the parks, so we’ll let you know when we know more. Stop what you’re doing! It’s time for a visit to Tiny Train Town. The town had some changes recently! This mischeivous little city has had an absolutely WILD couple of weeks. It started with new additions and major changes for the Food & Wine Festival, but when we last stopped by, some of our favorite characters had been stolen! It was a TRAVESTY. So what’s going on right now? Let’s go find out! After the kidnappings shook the town, I, Madam Mayor, wanted to check and make sure everything was operating as normal. Our train routes are thankfully up and running, which is great news. Those trains keep our itty bitty city in business. In fact, we have a NEW offering…the beverage train! A train! The beverage train can deliver barrels of your beverage of choice to various locations around town! This week I spotted it dropping off beer at the wedding chapel. Time to party?! We might want to have one of our police officers on the scene just in case. We know weddings can get WILD in this town. What’s going on here? Throughout the many, many updates to the town recently, the mayor’s office has been incredibly busy. I granted my employees a leave of absence to get a little break from the chaos. Everyone say hello to my secretary Denise, who decided to use her vacation to go backpacking with her pet goats! I swear if anyone tries to show back up at the office before next week, I will personally fire you. (For legal reasons, this is a joke. I need you Denise!) Some suspicious behavior But the chaos doesn’t rest, even when the mayor’s office is on break! The quicksand is BACK, ladies and gentlemen. We thought we had this problem solved months ago, but a new pocket has sprung up outside the town center. Please be careful of where you step. I’ve advised all citizens to travel in groups and carry their emergency lassoes on them at all times. I’m watching you guys! Thanks for tuning in to this week’s updates! We’ve all been there: You just landed at the Orlando Airport, ready to start your Disney World vacation, when it hits you — your five suitcases full of park outfits and essentials don’t all fit in the Uber! Orlando Airport baggage claim If you’re staying at select Disney World resorts, then you can get your suitcases delivered straight from MCO to your room. Disney only offers this for flyers on three participating airlines, but a fourth airline was just added! The Airport Luggage Transfer is only available for travelers flying on American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and the newly added JetBlue. If you’re flying domestically with these four airlines, then you might be able to get your bags delivered straight to your room for free! ©JetBlue Currently, the Airport Luggage Transfer is only available for guests staying at the following value and moderate resorts: Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort Disney’s All-Star Music Resort Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Disney’s Pop Century Resort Pop Century Resort To get your bags transferred, fill out the BagCheck registration form for the Airport Luggage Transfer at Disney service anytime from 30 days to one day (24 hours) before your departure flight. Head to the airport and follow your airline’s procedure to drop off your luggage, then once you’ve arrived at the Orlando International Airport, skip baggage claim and head directly to Walt Disney World Resort. Minnie Vans Once you arrive at your resort, pick up your bags from Luggage Assistance and Bell Services in the hotel lobby. You can also use your in-room phone to contact Luggage Assistance and Bell Services to have your luggage delivered directly to your room. It can take up to four hours for your bag to arrive at your hotel from the airport, so make sure you have all the essentials you’ll need in your carry-on bag. Have you ever had to turn around and take the walk of shame back to the Disney World parking lot because you accidentally packed a BANNED item? We have…and we don’t want you to have to go through that on your Disney trip. So, we’re here to help! Magic Kingdom Today we’re sharing some of the common items that you shouldn’t pack and alternatives to bring instead! What are some commonly packed items that are actually banned from Disney World? Well, to start, we’ve got to mention selfie sticks! These are on the list of items you’re not allowed to bring into the parks, likely because their additional length would be unsafe for people to use on rides and attractions. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Also banned from the parks? Wagons! You’re not allowed to bring a wagon-style stroller to the parks, or a stroller that is larger than 31″ (79 cm) in width and 52″ (132 cm) in length. Strollers in EPCOT Also, folding chairs and pop-up stools are not allowed in the parks. Unfortunately, this means you’ll have to stand in lines instead of taking a seat when your legs get tired. If you bring those compact stools to the parks, you won’t be allowed to bring them inside. Gotta wait in line, no stools allowed! Other random items you might be surprised are on the no-no list are flags and banners, pool noodles at the water parks, balloons and plastic straws at Animal Kingdom, and horns, whistles, or megaphones. A change has arrived to one of our favorite parts of the day at Disney California Adventure, and we can’t lie, we’re excited! World of Color No matter what Disney park you’re visiting, nighttime spectaculars are a MUST-do! Out of all the nighttime shows you can watch across Disney parks, World of Color – ONE at Disney California Adventure is one of the most beloved. Well, now it’s gotten a change, and we need to talk about it. After being gone for a while during Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary, World of Color — ONE is back in the park again, but with a change this time. Now, this change might not seem different to you and me, but it is different for the iconic show we all know and love. World of Color — ONE at Disney California Adventure For the 70th Anniversary celebration, World of Color Happiness! was playing in place of World of Color – ONE. This show had a pre-show with The Muppets, featuring the likes of Kermit, Gonzo, Fozzie, and others. The characters would “step into the spotlight to share safety announcements in a zany song-and-dance number.” Fozzie! When World of Color — ONE came back last month, the pre-show left with the previous version of the show. However, it’s BACK! So, you can now watch World of Color — ONE with its beloved Muppets pre-show during your visit! The Muppets pre-show We highly recommend you check this show out the next time you’re at Disney California Adventure, but just be aware you may have to do a little planning. This show does not happen daily, and showtimes are subject to change. We always recommend checking the Disneyland app and website prior to our Disney day. What are you doing, Gonzo? If you’re hoping for a good viewing spot, the show has a virtual queue that you can enter! You can use the Disneyland app at noon on the day of the performance to enter the queue, but you do have to have been in the theme parks. If you make it into the virtual queue, you’ll be notified to return to one of the viewing areas about 45 minutes before the start of the show. If you’re at Magic Kingdom and you just feel like something’s off about “it’s a small world,” it’s not just you because something isn’t right! “it’s a small world” The “it’s a small world” clock at Magic Kingdom is currently not working, and while we normally wouldn’t panic about a situation like this, it turns out there is NO current timeline for when Disney will have it fixed! Let’s take a look at what we know so far! If you’ve ever ridden “it’s a small world,” you’d know how iconic the clock is! Sure, it’s not the same as the one in Disneyland, but it still has the classic smiling face that rocks back and forth. Beside the smiling face, there is a literal clock that features spinning hands. “it’s a small world” While the clocks may not display the time, every fifteen minutes, the doors at the center open to reveal the actual current time on large blocks. It’s such a cute addition to the facade and gives the attraction an even more playful, toy-like feel. However, it isn’t working anymore. “it’s a small world” The clock actually hasn’t been operational for a couple of days now, going back to at least Tuesday, September 22nd. If you’ve seen it, the clock literally isn’t moving. No rotating smiling face, no spinning clock hands, and no time display. Cast Members say they have work in order right now, but there is no current timeline as to when it will finish. “it’s a small world” Even when the parts get to Disney World, they’ll still need time to fix it, so there’s no guarantee that you’ll see the working clock on your trip if you have one planned soon. “it’s a small world” We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates, so make sure to stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for all the latest! Wow, Disney. Way to rub salt in the wound. Disney’s Magical Express Changes in Disney World are inevitable — so many beloved things have been taken away while others are just being added. One of those beloved things? Disney’s Magical Express. And although it’s gone, there is still one way to reminisce about these nostalgic times on Disney World property. On one of our recent reporting walks, we visited Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The resort and the surrounding roads are currently under construction, with a new entrance coming soon, so we went to check it out and see if any changes had been made to the resort’s map. Not only did we not see any changes for the new entrance, but we also noticed that changes to the map have not been made in a WHILE because we spotted the Magical Express icon STILL there! Magical Express Icon on the Grand Floridian Resort map! Disney’s Magical Express was a free transportation service that would take guests from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) to their resort on a (magical) bus when their trip began and vice versa when their trip came to an end. Guests were even provided with special luggage tags, which meant that they didn’t need to collect their luggage at the airport either! These tags allowed Disney to take guests’ luggage and deliver it to their resort later in the day — magical, right? Disney’s Magical Express Once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the service changed. As mentioned above, Disney would take guests’ luggage and deliver it right to their rooms, but this service was suspended when the resort reopened in July 2020. On January 11th, 2021, Disney officially announced the plans to discontinue the Magical Express airport transportation service, with its final day of service being December 31st, 2022. Disney’s Magical Express So, you could imagine the surprise on our faces when we saw the Magical Express icon on the map at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort! Why is it still there? We’re not sure. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is filled with some of our favorite experiences and attractions at Disney World. One of them is the Kilimanjaro Safaris, because of how unique and adventurous the experience is. Elephants Well, it looks like the attraction could be getting a game-changing upgrade, as Disney just filed a patent application for technology that uses artificial intelligence to watch animals and alert when activity is happening. Let’s take a look at what we know so far! Disney could be setting up an AI system that’ll monitor the animals at Animal Kingdom and alert guests and Cast Members when something interesting or concerning is happening. This could be a massive change at Animal Kingdom. Could you imagine if a Cast Member could be alerted about an injured animal immediately?! Or imagine if you could get a notification that the male lion is out at the safari?! Kilimanjaro Safaris The filing is titled “Techniques for Automatically Monitoring Animal Behaviors and Generating Notifications.” It was published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today (September 24th, 2026). Disney Enterprises, Inc. filed the application on March 19th, 2025. ©Disney It’s important to know that this is NOT guaranteed. Disney is still waiting on approval for the patent. In fact, there are many cases where patent applications never become granted patents. Even if they do, they can take years. ©Disney So, how would it work? Well, the patent describes cameras placed throughout an “animal encounter facility”. These cameras would feed images and video to a machine learning model trained to spot which animals are present and what they are doing. If something happens that is worth flagging, it sends a notification. The alert could notify guests that animals are active and in what specific viewing area or tell Cast Members that an animal is showing signs of distress or blocking a path. ©Disney The patent describes the system running through fixed-place cameras, cameras mounted on vehicles, or cameras carried on drones. Animal Kingdom already sees its Cast Members watch out for animal activity to show guests where good viewing moments may happen, especially at attractions like Kilimanjaro Safaris. This patent application could do that work automatically and take the load off of some Cast Members. It all started with a regular visit to Magic Kingdom and a typical restaurant review. Pinocchio Village Haus We stopped by Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland to do a run-of-the-mill restaurant review (we do them for every restaurant in Disney World frequently so we can keep you updated on the quality of the eats), and we left crying literal tears. Why? Well, there was one good reason and one bad reason. As part of doing a restaurant review, our reporters will take photos of the atmosphere of a restaurant (you’ll see those in the “atmosphere” section of any of our review articles). It’s a great way to give you an idea of what the seating, ordering, and decor look like inside a dining location. Pinocchio Village Haus In our atmosphere look, we also like to include any fun hidden details that our readers would be interested in, and in the case of Pinocchio Village Haus, there’s a very special book. It’s called the Blue Fairy’s Wish Book, and it’s located in one of the dining rooms on the first floor. Here, guests are welcome to write their wishes so they can come true! Pinocchio Village Haus Wishing Book We started flipping through the book on our visit, and you GUYS, the things people write in this are so stinkin’ sweet, we were tearing up! “I wish to get pregnant with a healthy baby in 2026” started us out, followed by “My wish is for my family’s health and happiness, and for many more trips together to Disney.” AWWWW! The wishes are so sweet! We could’ve stood here all day and read through those wishes. It really makes you feel connected to the other guests who have come to this happy place in the past. Disney is a place of magic and dreamers! Pinocchio Village Haus But unfortunately, this book wasn’t the only reason we wanted to cry. Also during this visit, we learned that the fun themed signs that used to be available for Pinocchio Village Haus guests are gone. These were previously available near the windows that looked down over “it’s a small world” and allowed you to interact with the ride’s passengers below. They had fun little prompts on them. The signs! The signs made sitting in those seats that looked out over the ride extra special, and a Cast Member confirmed that they were removed because folks kept stealing them. WHY, guys?! Why must people ruin it for everyone else?! Here it is on the table! So that was our shockingly emotional visit to Pinocchio Village Haus. Hopefully our next trip won’t be quite so tumultuous. We’re less than two weeks away from the next big transformation of The Diamond Horseshoe at Magic Kingdom! The Diamond Horseshoe We already know that the popular Magic Kingdom restaurant is changing up once again, as it will soon become a pop-up restaurant with a brand-new menu. Reservations can be made in less than a week, and this new information we heard from a Cast Member will have you wanting to grab your reservation ASAP! We recently visited the Magic Kingdom and spoke to a Cast Member at Liberty Tree Tavern who told us that Cast Members have been training for the new lounge at Diamond Horseshoe. There is NO drink minimum and NO time limit. So, this is a place where you can stay and enjoy yourself longer, unlike an option like The Beak and Barrel in Adventureland or Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Diamond Horseshoe The lounge is more similar to the format of Brown Derby Lounge at Hollywood Studios. All that being said, because Magic Kingdom is still technically a dry park, they are not opening a full bar. They are only offering premixed specialty drinks from the menu. The Diamond Horseshoe Both reservations and walk-ups will be available, but reservations are strongly recommended because they believe it will be very popular! Reservations will officially open on September 29th at 8 PM EST. It will officially open on October 4th. The Diamond Horseshoe We know we’re talking about drinks, but there are going to be a ton of delicious-looking food options as well. Some of the items that intrigue us the most from the new menu include: Charcuterie: Cured beef, candied bacon, smoked pork, green chile cheese, smoked cheddar, and pickles Glazed Sticky Ribs with cowboy beans and jalapeño crisps Queso Fundido with Barbecue Burnt Ends with warm tortilla chips Sweet Golden Corn Fritters with cilantro ranch dressing and red chili honey Chipotle Chicken Tostada with queso fresco, lime crema, and pickled cactus salsa Mini Hot Dog Platter: Wrapped in pastry, served with tortilla chips and a side of queso ©Disney We can’t wait to check out this new lounge once it opens! Florida weather is notoriously unpredictable, especially when it comes to things like hurricanes and storms. We know we can count on it being hot and humid in the summer, but the winter weather is usually comfortable and even a little chilly. Rainy Day in Magic Kingdom However, that could change this year because a Super El Niño is on the way. But how will this El Niño affect weather in Disney World and Central Florida? Well, according to WESH, it could mean more severe weather this winter. So, what exactly is El Niño? It’s a naturally occurring weather pattern that happens every two to seven years and lasts for around a year. It happens when trade winds that usually blow from east to west across the Pacific Ocean weaken or reverse, which creates a situation where warm water spreads east. This releases heat from the ocean into the atmosphere, which can raise global temperatures and cause changes in weather all over the world, even in Florida. According to the National Weather Service, El Niño usually brings a lot of extra rain (as in more than normal) to Florida during the fall, winter, and spring. ©National Weather Service This year’s El Niño, though, has already become the strongest on record weeks before it’s expected to peak, according to the BBC. This means Florida could be in for even more weather changes starting in the winter. In Central Florida, this could mean an increased risk of tornadoes. Central Florida normally sees only about two to three tornado events per year. However, this number could increase to seven or more tornado events in the area. Central Florida, including Disney World, could also see heavy rain, flooding, power outages, and other severe weather as well. Flooding in Disney World So, if you’re visiting Disney World, how can you prepare? Well, you’ll want to be weather-aware. Have a weather app on your phone so you can check the weather while you’re on the go: AccuWeather is a great option because it has a Disney Weather Check feature. In case of severe weather, outdoor rides will close in the parks, and Cast Members may instruct you on what you need to do or where you need to go, so pay attention. Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek is about to publish a new memoir, in which he blames recently retired CEO Bob Iger for his firing. Bob Chapek ©Disney Back in 2022, Bob Chapek was fired as Disney’s chief executive after less than three years in the job. Bob Iger, who preceded Bob Chapek as CEO, then came back as the company’s chief executive after Chapek was fired. A lot happened during Chapek’s time as CEO, some of which was beyond his control, like COVID-19, while other missteps were in his control. However, there’s one thing he points his finger at. According to The New York Times, Chapek’s memoir is set to be published Tuesday by Gallery Books, in which he rejects any personal responsibility for his ouster. In fact, he “places all blame on a ‘relentless’ sabotage campaign by the man who handpicked him for the job, his predecessor and eventual successor, Robert A. Iger.” Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek ©Disney Before its publication, a copy of “Behind the Castle Walls: My Thirty Years at the Happiest Place on Earth” was obtained by The New York Times. In this book, Bob Chapek re-establishes himself as a leader. According to The New York Times, he embraces the mantle of “disrupter,” invoking the word or versions of it 30 times across 254 pages. Chapek also seeks to cement his place in Disney history, saying that his legacy wasn’t memorialized in a positive way. “My abrupt dismissal hurt my reputation, leaving those close to me, outsiders, and some within the kingdom trying to figure out what I did wrong,” Mr. Chapek writes. “The answer, again, is nothing.” ©Disney In his memoir, Chapek claimed that Iger played “an intentional and preconceived role in abruptly ending my ride as Disney C.E.O.” Chapek says Iger “disparaged him in private conversations, telling Hollywood power brokers and loyalists in the Disney ranks that he had shut Mr. Iger out and questioning his judgment over pandemic-era movie releases.” “I didn’t get a chance to finish what I started,” Mr. Chapek writes. “In truth, it pisses me off.” ©Disney || Bob Chapek Bob Chapek also claimed something controversial about Bob Iger’s sudden and abrupt stepping down as CEO. “I have been told by several high-ranking people both in government and private business that, in their opinions, the real reason he left the company so abruptly was his anticipation of the arrival of COVID,” Chapek writes. He had no evidence, but he suggested that Bob Iger believed he could come back and reclaim the CEO role at any time. ©Disney During Bob Chapek’s time with the company, he faced criticism regarding his drive for higher revenue. Annual Passes, park tickets, and food prices skyrocketed. Things that used to be free, like FastPass and Magical Express, were now being charged for. Chapek doesn’t believe that was an issue, and still stands by it, saying it reduced crowds and increased guest satisfaction. If you’re already planning a 2027 Disney World trip, there’s one specific stretch on the calendar that seasoned EPCOT visitors are steering clear of. EPCOT The park isn’t closing, and nothing is wrong with EPCOT then, but Disney planning experts have quietly started flagging an 8-day window to avoid if you can help it. So what’s the deal? It comes down to EPCOT’s festival calendar, and once you see what falls right before and right after this stretch, you’ll understand exactly why it’s on the “maybe pick different dates” list. EPCOT International Festival of the Arts The Festival of the Arts kicks off 2027 at EPCOT, and this year is extra special — it’s the festival’s 10th anniversary, and it’s also running about a week longer than usual (46 days total, compared to 39 days in 2026). In 2027, it will run from January 15th to March 1st. The festival carries a new title: the “EPCOT International Festival of the Arts presented by Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game,” marking Lorcana’s debut as an official presenting sponsor. For guests who build entire trips around festival food and entertainment (and let’s be honest, a lot of us do), this is the week the internet’s Disney experts say to sidestep if festival hopping is your main goal. If you’re planning a Disney World trip, you’re probably thinking a LOT about your hotel, from the room size and transportation to dining and pools. If you only choose your resort for the pool, then Disney’s newest hotel will be your new favorite place to stay. ©Disney Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge boasts so many pools themed after some iconic Disney movies. While the resort won’t open until July 1st, 2027, we just got a close-up look at the pools under construction! Lakeshore Lodge is currently under construction, and @bioreconstruct captured some great aerial drone footage of the progress. In this picture, we can see that the massive main pool complex is about half the size of the parking lot! ©bioreconstruct Lakeshore Lodge’s main pool complex features two main pools. The Wetlands will be a place where guests can find both fun and relaxation amidst spectacular water features. The lazy Daydream River is where ALL guests can sit back, relax, and float on an inner tube while the river carries them through The Wetlands. Plus, Lakeshore Lagoon, a zero-entry pool for guests of all ages, is the heart of The Wetlands and will feature a spiral waterslide. And we can see them both in these new pictures! ©bioreconstruct We can clearly see Lakeshore Lagoon on the left, with what looks like blue waterslide pieces deconstructed inside. To the right, the full path of the Daydream River has been revealed, with two entrances and three pedestrian bridges above the water. Hiding in the building’s shadow are Addie and Bonnie, the giant otters of Otter Springs, a wet play area inspired by Disney’s Pocahontas. ©bioreconstruct We also got a picture of Lakeshore Lodge’s second pool area. Perspective Pond features a relaxing leisure pool and whirlpool spa, which is perfectly positioned for views of Magic Kingdom fireworks in the evenings. If you spend enough time reading comments from Disney World hotel guests, you start to notice a theme. The beds? Debatable. The latest room design? Everyone has an opinion. But one complaint follows Disney Resort guests around with remarkable consistency: the noise. This room is missing something People hear kids running down hallways. Doors slamming. Toilets flushing. Conversations next door. Families coming back from Magic Kingdom at midnight. Families leaving for Early Entry when you would prefer that 6:15 AM not exist on vacation. And every time Disney refurbishes another hotel, it feels reasonable to ask the same question: Can they PLEASE fix the soundproofing while they’re in there? Disney Can Renovate a Room Without Rebuilding a Hotel Disney World is renovating something approximately 127% of the time. Rooms get new flooring, furniture, artwork, lighting, storage, bathroom fixtures, and updated themes. We spend enough nights in Disney hotels to appreciate an outlet where humans can actually reach it. But changing a headboard is one project. Changing how sound moves through an entire building is another. Beach Club Construction A recent CNN report about hotel noise complaints dug into why this issue is so difficult for hotels to solve. Sound isolation can depend on the actual construction of the building, including walls, doors, windows, HVAC systems, materials, and room placement. Really improving that can mean opening walls, adding insulation, replacing doors or windows, altering mechanical systems, or using heavier construction methods. In other words, this isn’t the kind of thing Disney necessarily fixes during a standard room refresh. Construction at Wilderness Lodge Many Disney World hotels have also been standing for decades. Disney can gut a guest room, install new flooring, swap the furniture, and give everything a fresh theme without fundamentally rebuilding the structure separating Room 3214 from Room 3216. Multiply serious acoustic work by hundreds or thousands of rooms, and suddenly “please fix the thin walls” becomes a much bigger project. And Some of the Noise Is…Us Even the best soundproofing cannot eliminate every complaint because sometimes the problem isn’t the hotel. It’s the people inside it. Disney World hotels are full of guests operating on wildly different schedules. One family is getting back at 1 AM after fireworks. Another has three alarms set for 5:45 AM because they have a rope-drop strategy and fear nothing. Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular There are babies. Toddlers. Cheer groups. Wedding parties. Suitcases rolling down outdoor walkways. People shouting, “DID YOU GET THE MAGICBAND?” from opposite ends of a hallway. You’ve also got elevators, ice machines, housekeeping carts, air conditioners, connecting doors, pools, buses, and hotel-room doors capable of shutting with the force of a medieval drawbridge. Disney can improve some of those things. It cannot install a volume knob on your neighbors. Hey Disney Alexa So while we’d love to see better sound mitigation included whenever major renovations make it possible, we’re not waiting for every Disney hotel to become a sensory deprivation chamber. Instead, we pack accordingly. Then, when someone decides the hallway outside your room is the perfect location for the 11:47PM family debrief, Past You has provided reinforcements. view ON AMAZON Kinglucky Upgraded X50 Pillow Speaker Maybe you sleep better with white noise, an audiobook, or a podcast, but the people sharing your Disney hotel room would prefer not to participate. Pillow Speaker That’s handy when several people are sharing one Disney hotel room, and everyone has a different bedtime routine. You can listen to something without wearing earbuds all night, while your roommate gets silence. Diplomatic relations survive another Disney vacation. CHECK IT OUT ON AMAZON Disney Can Help, But Don’t Expect Silence None of this means Disney gets a free pass when there’s a genuine maintenance or noise problem. If your air conditioner sounds like Expedition Everest, call the front desk. If there’s an all-night party next door, call the front desk. And when major resort renovations happen, we’d absolutely like to see Disney improve sound isolation wherever the building allows it. Lobby crowds But hotel noise isn’t usually one broken thing Disney can repair. Some of it is structural. Some comes from mechanical systems. Some comes from decades-old building layouts. And some comes from the simple fact that Disney hotels are full of excited, exhausted people arriving and leaving at practically every hour. Construction Disney will keep renovating its hotels. We’ll keep getting new furniture, flooring, artwork, storage, bathrooms, and themes. Will Disney eventually guarantee that you’ll never again hear the toilet flush in the room next door? We would not plan our vacation around that particular dream. Pack the earplugs.
