Lorcana is a super popular Disney-themed trading card game. Your favorite Disney heroes and villains are being attacked, and it’s up to you to save them! The game features iconic Disney characters like Mickey and Friends and princesses, but has expanded to include recent hits like Monsters, Inc. and Turning Red. We love Lorcana! But Lorcana is so popular that it’s causing chaos at in-person events. The Lorcana pre-release at Disney Springs yesterday was so popular that the police were called in for crowd control, and the hours-long line was so long that we saw someone ordering DoorDash to keep their spot. But somehow, the Lorcana pre-release in London, England, yesterday was even MORE crowded! The Disney Store on Oxford Street in London is the only Disney Store in England, so with a rare Lorcana drop, crowds were expected. But what Disney wasn’t prepared for? A line to start forming at 5 PM the night before the store opened at 9 AM! About 600 people were in the line by the store’s opening, according to The Standard, which snaked for almost half a mile. © @itsamecooper via The Standard According to multiple eyewitnesses, the situation escalated early Friday morning when large groups of scalpers stormed the queue, pushing and shoving to get to the front. Scalpers, people who buy high-profit items for resale, have been targeting Lorcana recently. Popular and rare editions of Disney’s Lorcana cards retail for £100 at the Disney Store, but are already being sold on eBay for £650. Lorcana cards One Lorcana fan there told The Standard that a group of at least 100 scalpers “descended” on the queue, coming in from all sides as they pushed to get to the front. “They were obviously fighting between themselves. One was trying to get in through the front of the Disney Store. Another had stolen the tickets [from Disney Store staff] and was handing them out to his friends,” she said. “It was quite frightening. It was chaos. Any order was completely gone. They ruined what could have been an amazing experience.” © @itsmecooper Tickets for the pre-release were scheduled to be distributed at 7 AM, with the store opening at 9 AM. But after the chaos caused by the scalpers, Disney canceled the Lorcana event via a Facebook post. The Lorcana pre-release would no longer take place, and the Disney Store had a delayed opening later that morning. ©Disney The statement read: “The safety of our Guests, Cast Members and the local community is always our highest priority, and following the disruption outside the Oxford Street store overnight, we made the decision, alongside local authorities, to open later than usual this morning. As a result, today’s planned in-store release of the Disney Lorcana Curator’s Collection: Heroines Edition will no longer take place. We know how disappointing this is for our fans, and we sincerely apologise to those affected. Flying into or out of the Orlando Airport this summer? You need to read this first! Orlando International Airport If you’re heading on a flight soon, there are some tips you need to consider before traveling through Orlando. Summer travel can be chaotic, but we’re here to help you navigate the ins and outs. These are the new rules for flying into or out of MCO! Don’t Forget Your Real ID First of all, do NOT forget your REAL ID. The TSA website notes, “As of May 7, 2025, state-issued driver’s licenses and IDs that are not REAL ID compliant are no longer accepted as valid forms of identification at airports. Passengers should either travel with an acceptable alternative form of ID, like a passport, or enroll for a state-issued REAL ID through their state DMV offices.” ©DHS.gov This means you need to get your identification sorted BEFORE you go to the airport. Then, before you leave your house, double- and triple-check that you have your REAL ID on your person and are ready to go through security. It’ll make the whole process smoother! (Trust me — I’ve lost my ID in an airport before, and it was not a fun time.) Read More About REAL ID Requirements Here! Arrive Earlier Than You Used To Flying has gotten more complicated in recent years, and the Orlando International Airport seems to get busier year after year. That means you may need to arrive at the airport earlier than you used to if you’re flying home from here. The MCO website says: “The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority recommends arriving at the security checkpoint two hours before your scheduled departure time, but please check directly with your airline for specific recommendations for your flight.” Orlando International Airport We also recommend increasing that arrival time if you are traveling during a busy season, like a long weekend, around a holiday, during spring break season, or during the summer. Remember, Orlando is a tourist town, and busy tourism times are going to make the airport chaotic! 7 Things Orlando Airport Wishes You Knew When Traveling to Disney World Use MCO Reserve If You Can One of the greatest perks of flying through MCO is the completely free MCO Reserve program. With this program, you can make a reservation to go through security. You simply go to the MCO Reserve website, input your flight information, and then choose a time when you’d like to go through the security checkpoint. Orlando International Airport This isn’t available for all flights or times of day, and it can fill up, so you need to do it in advance. But if you can manage to use MCO Reserve, you could save a significant chunk of time at security! We’ve used this in the past and been through in five minutes (though that’s not guaranteed). Book Your Flights for Less Busy Days If you’re really looking to avoid crowds at the airport, then you can book your arrival and departure dates for the less-busy days of the week. The days that are typically less busy at MCO are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Orlando International Airport Obviously, weekends are peak travel days, but Mondays and Fridays are pretty popular too, as folks arrive or depart for their long weekend trips. And if you’re going toward the end of summer, the days surrounding Labor Day weekend are bound to be busier than other weeks. The Best Orlando Airport Hacks! Pack Smart and Efficient Saving time at the airport actually starts at home or in your hotel room, when you’re packing your bags and getting ready to travel. Make sure you’re packing efficiently to go through security and board the plane — have your ID, Passport, boarding pass, and phone easily accessible. Keep anything you might need on the plane in your personal item. Baggage claim! When you get dressed, think about security requirements. Don’t wear anything that might set off the metal detectors or get in the way of you going through security quickly. And if you want to avoid baggage claim, pack light and use compression packing cubes to fit as much as possible into your carry-on. Is This the Best Carry-On to Use at the Orlando Airport? Check for New Direct Flight Options And last but not least, be on the lookout for new flights! Here at Disney Food Blog, going to Disney World is one of our favorite things to do. We’re at Disney World almost all day, every day, 24/7, partly because it’s our job, and partly because we just love it! But the one thing we don’t like about going to Disney World? Getting there! Traffic can be brutal. And we’re talking basically parked-on-the-road-for-45-minutes brutal. But Disney heard our pleas, because a brand-new road improvement at Disney World just fixed this annoying problem with a MAJOR change! If you’ve ever been parked on I-4 trying to head to Disney World, you’re not alone. This Florida highway runs between Daytona Beach and Tampa, and has a reputation for heavy traffic and significant delays. But lucky for you, Florida’s Moving I-4 Forward program just began, bringing a major change that will improve traffic flow on I-4. Exit 62 at World Drive and State Road 417 now splits into two separate ramps labeled 62A and 62B. To reach the Disney World theme parks and resorts, drivers will now take Exit 62B onto World Drive northbound. ©MovingI4Forward These two exits at World Drive are now permanently separated. Drivers on I-4 eastbound should familiarize themselves with the change to choose the correct ramp and navigate with a GPS while getting used to the change. World Drive This change to I-4 isn’t the only road improvement coming to Disney World. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District plans to improve the intersection of Buena Vista Drive and Western Way to facilitate traffic through the area. Between commuter traffic, Disney College Program buses, and families driving to Disney World, this area is known to get pretty backed up at peak times. Disney will build a new grade-separated interchange, with Buena Vista Drive elevated above Western Way, with interconnected ramps to facilitate traffic movements. ©CFTOD They also plan to widen Western Way from the State Road (SR) 429/ Western Way interchange east to the Coronado Springs Resort. The street will be widened 2.45 miles from the CFTOD/Turnpike property boundary near the SR 429/Western Way interchange to approximately 535 feet north/west of the driveway serving Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Universal Studios Hollywood is about to get a major upgrade with its brand-new, first-ever fully outdoor roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift. The ride was set to open on June 26th, but was then delayed until late summer. Universal Studios Hollywood Universal hasn’t announced an official reason for the delay, but it just debunked a widespread rumor about the postponement of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift that gives us some hints. ​​ Additionally, Fox 11 stated that the ride had been postponed further to late 2026. After the story went viral, Universal stepped in to address the rumor. Universal said reports that the coaster’s opening is postponed until the end of 2026 are “not accurate” and disputed the notion that the coaster has been delayed. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is still on target to open before the end of summer. “We expect to announce an opening date soon,” read the official statement from Universal. “The information online is incorrect.” Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift Universal’s summer season lasts through September, with popular Halloween Horror Nights kicking off the fall season on September 3rd. Given that Universal has been testing Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift with riders since May, an August or September opening to still meet the late summer timeline seems likely. EPCOT has no shortage of INCREDIBLE meals…but here are three you might want to skip! Dessert at Coral Reef As huge fans of both theme parks and food, EPCOT is pretty much our dream come true. Between the rotating festival food booths and the unique restaurants, we could spend our entire vacation just eating our way through the park. But as stellar as the EPCOT food scene is, not every restaurant is a winner! Here are three EPCOT restaurants you might want to skip when planning your next visit to the park! Coral Reef Restaurant Disney fans get super passionate when discussing their favorite spots. And there are TONS of EPCOT restaurants that get mentioned when people shout out their favorites, from the adorable character dining at Garden Grill to the incredible steakhouse food at Le Cellier. But we very rarely hear Coral Reef Restaurant listed in discussions about favorite EPCOT restaurants. Coral Reef Restaurant The theme here is marine-focused throughout, with a primarily seafood-oriented menu and a dining room lined with massive windows that look into the Living Seas aquarium. Coral Reef Restaurant On the plus side, this restaurant gives lots of options for major seafood fans. Plus, the theming is unique, and it tends to be (relatively) quieter and more relaxing than other EPCOT restaurants. But other than that, we can see why so many people don’t count this spot among their favorites. Pineapple-Coconut Bread and Plantain Chips at Coral Reef For one, even though there are non-seafood options on the menu, it’s definitely very seafood-heavy. That can be a problem for parties with people who either don’t like — or can’t eat — seafood. Plus, as cool as the theming is, some people might find it a bit odd to spend the entire meal looking into the aquarium while dining on fish. It’s like staring down your meal the whole time! Seafood Boil Based on our most recent experience, we found Coral Reef to be “fine” — not fantastic, not terrible. But if we’re going to take the time (and money) to sit for a table service meal in EPCOT, we’d typically opt for one of the many spots with consistently incredible food, rather than a place that felt “okay.” Coral Reef Restaurant Plus, while the theming is cool (if it doesn’t weird you out), there are tons of restaurants with amazing atmosphere throughout the park. So, unless you’re specifically seeking out the aquarium, there are plenty of other unique dining experiences to choose from around EPCOT! Lotus Blossom Cafe Located in the China Pavilion of the World Showcase, Lotus Blossom Cafe is a quick service restaurant that serves up familiar favorites like egg rolls, potstickers, and fried rice. Lotus Blossom Cafe The issue here isn’t that the food at Lotus Blossom Cafe is necessarily “bad.” Like we mentioned, there are plenty of crowd pleasers on the menu! It’s just that most of the options here are pretty much your basic Americanized Chinese food that you can get from any local Chinese restaurant at home for cheaper. Orange Chicken If you’ve got pickier eaters or are just craving familiar flavors, this might be exactly the kind of place you’re looking for! But if you love exploring the unique dining options around EPCOT and want to find something with exciting new flavors, Lotus Blossom Cafe will probably be a letdown. Mongolian Beef Combo Lotus Blossom Cafe can definitely satisfy a craving for Chinese takeout. But unless that’s the specific reason you’re stopping by, you may be better off saving your stomach space for more unique food options around the park, especially if there’s a festival happening! La Crêperie de Paris La Crêperie de Paris is a table service restaurant in the France Pavilion that serves both savory crêpes called “galettes” and sweet crêpes, among other menu offerings. La Creperie de Paris First, we have to give a shoutout to the Prix Fixe Menu here, which is one of the best dining deals we’ve found in Disney World! With the Prix Fixe Menu, you get either the soup of the day or the Salade Maison, a choice of a Galette, a choice of a Dessert Crêpe, as well as a choice between hard cider, soda, or juice. While many of the other prix fixe menus around the park are pricy and hard to justify the cost, this one is actually a solid deal at around $40 per person, so if you’re planning to take advantage of that, this restaurant is worth a stop! Chèvre Galette But, if you aren’t looking for a multi-course meal, you might prefer to skip the table service experience and grab a crêpe from the restaurant’s to-go window, Crêpes À Emporter at La Crêperie de Paris. That way, you can still get your crêpe fix without spending the extra time and money on a sit-down meal! Le Bete de Crepe or The Beast Crepe Another reason La Crêperie de Paris might fall into the “skip” column for you is the theming. Unlike so many of the restaurants around the park that feature over-the-top atmosphere and entertainment, the design of La Crêperie de Paris is pretty bland. If you expect your EPCOT meal to be about the experience as much as the food, you’ll probably leave here disappointed! Inside of La Creperie De Paris Again, La Crêperie de Paris gets a big shoutout from us for the great deal on the Prix Fixe Menu. But between the restaurant’s lack of interesting theming and the option to snag a crêpe to-go instead, you might regret spending one of your precious EPCOT meals here! Disney World has so many great resort options, but we keep going back to one hotel for spacious rooms, yummy food, and a major coastal vibe that we can’t get enough of. But no, it’s not the Polynesian – it’s Old Key West! Disney’s Old Key West Resort Disney’s Old Key West Resort is a deluxe villa resort themed after Florida’s most iconic coastal town, Key West. You’ll find an abundance of Key Lime Pie-themed treats along the resort’s lake. But our plans to grab dessert soon just got complicated by not one, but three refurbishments across the resort! A popular transportation option at Old Key West will temporarily close soon. Refurbishment work will take place along the Sassagoula River Cruise boat route from Monday, July 20th through early August. During this time, boat service to Disney Springs will be temporarily unavailable, but you can still take the Disney buses to get there instead. There’s also a walking path, but we don’t recommend it, since it took us about 45 minutes and was brutal in the summer heat. Old Key West Boat Dock Additionally, Hospitality House at Disney’s Old Key West Resort is undergoing exterior maintenance work. This is the central hub of the resort, which includes the lobby, concierge, Olivia’s Cafe, and more amenities. Guests may see or hear work during daytime hours and at times may be directed to take alternate paths of travel. Disney has confirmed that the refurb will last through mid-September 2026, but the Disney World app doesn’t reflect this update yet and still says it will last only through early June. Disney’s Old Key West Resort And if you’ve booked a room with a golf course view, we’ve also got some bad news for you. Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course, which surrounds Old Key West, is also undergoing refurbishment. Views from some rooms overlooking the golf course may be impacted until the work is complete in October 2026. We had some fantastic news come out of Disney World this week regarding a massive construction project…and then in the same week, practically half of an EPCOT pavilion is closed off to the public. You’ll get to go inside! Disney has announced that the rest of The Walt Disney Studios will open on September 14th, which includes the new The Magic of Disney Animation experience. While we still have a while to wait, we’re thrilled to actually begin counting down the days. In the meantime, you’ll want to watch out for this EPCOT pavilion when you’re traveling through World Showcase, because some of the prior amenities available currently are not. Germany in EPCOT’s World Showcase has completely closed off its bathrooms for refurbishment, and nearly the entire Volkskunst store is suffering the same fate. We don’t have a reopening date for either of them yet, but it’s our hope that once they reopen, the pavilion will be less likely to smell like sewage. Totally closed Let’s take a look at all the current closures taking place in Disney World from July 18th through July 24th. Magic Kingdom Carousel of Progress Carousel of Progress closed on July 6th to undergo a major refurbishment. The work will include completely revamping the scenes in the attraction to make them more modern and represent more recent parts of history, as well as adding a new Walt Disney animatronic at the opening. ©Disney Currently, the attraction is set to reopen in 2027, though no official date has been set yet. Big Top Souvenirs Big Top Souvenirs closed on February 20th, and Disney has said it’ll “reopen for guests to enjoy later this year,” but there’s no date in sight. When we stopped by recently, we saw that the big top has FINALLY been added back to the shop, which is a relief! The tent is back! We’re really curious to see how this all turns out, so we’ll keep you updated! Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island An iconic part of the Magic Kingdom is now permanently closed. As of July 7th, 2025, the Rivers of America, including the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island, are permanently closed to make way for the new Cars area, Piston Peak. There are lots of construction walls up in the area now, and the structures on Tom Sawyer Island have been demolished. Most recently, we saw a new addition to one of the old boat docks, as a shed-like structure has now been added to the boat dock near Memento Mori. A new building? Piston Peak National Park will be replacing this area of the Magic Kingdom. Disney has not yet announced an opening date for the new Cars area, but we do know it will feature two brand-new attractions and be themed to look like a National Park. 5 Previously Impossible Magic Kingdom Lightning Lanes That Are Easy Now Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Parts of) Animation Courtyard Animation Courtyard closed on September 25th, 2025, to make way for Walt Disney Studios. The courtyard area, new Disney Jr. show, and meet and greet station for Sofia the First and SupeKitties officially opened on May 26th. Star Wars Launch Bay will be turned into The Magic of Disney Animation. This attraction will have you interacting and exploring with this fun take on Disney Animation headquarters, complete with the return of the Sorcerer Mickey hat! The Magic of Disney Animation in Walt Disney Studios This area will also feature a new Drawn to Wonderland indoor play area that we can’t wait to see! Now, we know the rest of The Walt Disney Studios will open on September 14th. Muppets Courtyard Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo closed on June 8th, 2025, and Muppets Courtyard has been walled off for construction on the new Monsters, Inc. land. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano has been closed since May 11th, 2025. Most recently, Disney released new information about Monstropolis, saying that “Monstropolis — the monster city now powered by laughter — is getting ready to give humans a glimpse of what’s been hidden from their world for generations. Which raises an interesting question: if humans were never meant to enter the monster world … why are the doors finally opening to us?” ©Disney We’ll get to explore their world during H.U.M.A.N. Day, or “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice” Day, with Disney continuing to say, “Human guests will have the chance to explore the city, meet its citizens, taste unique cuisine, and step into the everyday world of monsters in a totally new way. For the first time, two worlds once separated are meeting face to scaly, furry, and fang-filled face – brought together not by screams, but by laughter.” ©Disney It’s also been fully confirmed that Harryhausen’s will be one of the restaurants in the new land, which we’re beyond excited to experience. Most recently, we saw TONS of scaffolding and outdoor work being done on nearly all the buildings visible from inside the park — it looks like Disney is hard at work! Tons of scaffolding! Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Most Popular Bar Is About to Get Even Sweeter EPCOT La Signature La Signature, one of the stores located in the France Pavilion, closed for refurbishment on June 30th. La Signature closed The store specializes in French cosmetics and fragrances from Guerlain. During the closure, if you’re looking to buy Guerlain products, they’ll be temporarily available at the nearby Plume Et Palette. Sections of Germany Pavilion On July 13th, both the guest bathrooms in the Germany Pavilion and the majority of the Volkskunst store in EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion closed for refurbishment. Totally closed While a Cast Member did tell us the store closure was to fix the Cast Member bathrooms out of sight, Disney has not revealed a reopening date for the store or the public bathrooms. An EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Experience Just Got More Expensive Disney’s Animal Kingdom DinoLand, USA On February 2nd, DinoLand, USA, officially closed to make way for the new Tropical Americas land, Pueblo Esperanza. Most recently, we noticed that walls are beginning to be built up inside the new land, and there are several large pieces of construction equipment on the land. Lots of progress! We can also see lots of work happening at the front of the new Indiana Jones ride! Recently, Disney revised the permit they filed last August for this ride, and the new Notice of Commencement permit renews the installation through April 2027. via @bioreconstruct This new land is shaping up nicely! It will have three new rides – a carousel featuring classic Disney animals, an Indiana Jones ride where you’ll explore a Mayan temple, and an Encanto ride that invites you into the Madrigals’ home. We can’t wait to continue to see how it all shapes up. 4 Viral Food Trends That Just Won’t Leave Disney World Disney World Hotels Boat Dock — Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Starting on May 11th, the Boat Dock at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort became unavailable for guests to use due to refurbishment. The dock is closed! Boat transportation was unavailable through June 5th, but has now reopened. Construction on the dock as a whole was set to continue through late June, but has now continued into July. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa This hotel has been undergoing refurbishments for quite some time now, but some sections of the hotel — specifically the porte cochere — will continue to undergo refurbishment through at least early 2027. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort We certainly hope it’ll actually reopen on this timeline — we’re a little tired of seeing construction all over this beautiful hotel! Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Currently, work is taking place all over Bay Lake Tower through Late 2027. Bay Lake Tower While currently no major closures are taking place due to this construction, it’s important to note that you may see or hear construction during your stay. Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort For those looking to dine at this hotel, you need to know that the Turf Club Bar & Grill and Turf Club Lounge will both be under refurbishment from mid-March through mid-September 2026. Turf Club Bar & Grill In early April, the Turf Club Lounge will close for refurbishment and will reopen in early August. In the meantime, the Turf Club Bar & Grill will remain open with a pop-up bar serving a modified Lounge food and beverage menu. Then, from early to mid-August, the Turf Club patio will close for refurbishment, and finally, from mid-August through mid-September, the Turf Club Bar & Grill will be closed for refurbishment, but the Turf Club Lounge will be open. Leisure Pools — Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and Disney’s Beach Club Resort Disney’s Yacht Club and Disney’s Beach Club Resort are currently undergoing visible exterior maintenance. The maintenance could affect views and may require alternate routes at times. In addition, two of the resort’s leisure pools will close for routine maintenance. Tidal Pool At Disney’s Yacht Club, the Admiral leisure pool will be closed for maintenance through early May 2026. At Disney’s Beach Club, the Tidal leisure pool will be closed for maintenance through early May 2026. Guests may see or hear construction work, but it will only be done during the daytime hours. Yachtsman Steakhouse — Disney’s Yacht Club Resort On May 11th, Yachtsman Steakhouse officially closed for refurbishment. Yachtsman Steakhouse Recently, it was revealed that reservations for this restaurant are now available beginning on August 28th! Promenade Fine Art Gallery — Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Resort The Promenade Fine Art Gallery closed its Disney’s BoardWalk location on October 20th, 2025. However, the Promenade Fine Art Gallery isn’t closing for good, and it will just be moving to a new location. Promenade Fine Art Gallery Disney just filed permits for the BoardWalk titled “Project Amazon” and “Project Bubbles” earlier this year, and now that we have a bit more information on them, we’re thinking that this currently vacant spot could soon become the home of the new Basin on the BoardWalk store on its way! The shop will be rooted in the resort’s classic boardwalk heritage and will offer a sensory shopping experience that is described as “both timeless and distinctly new.” Jellyrolls — Disney’s BoardWalk Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk officially closed on April 19th, 2025. This entertainment venue has provided our team with countless memories, and we know many others are also sad to see it close. Jellyrolls had its final farewell performance on April 19th. 2025 and closed its doors forever on Disney’s BoardWalk. It was just recently revealed, though, that a new lounge will be coming to the BoardWalk! ©Disney The new lounge will be called Hurly-Burly and will be a “fun-filled afternoons and glamorous evenings inside a historic seaside theatre with a vibrant BoardWalk story that spans over a century.” Based on the concept art revealed, it’s looking like the former JellyRolls building would be the best fit for this spot, but we’re also waiting to see where the new quick-service restaurant announced for the BoardWalk will be going! 5 Big Changes Are About to Hit Disney World Hotels in August We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest Disney World news, so stay tuned to DFB! Don’t let this surprise bit of Disney magic go to waste if you’re lucky enough to experience it! Pinocchio and Geppetto If you’re SUPER lucky, you might stumble upon a rare and unexpected magical moment right in the middle of EPCOT! The next time you find yourself in the American Adventure Pavilion, keep an eye out for this special occurrence… but make sure you play it right so you don’t fumble it! Keep Character Palooza Magical! If the stars align during your Disney World trip, you might be fortunate enough to find a Character Palooza. These are super rare pop-up meet-and-greets that are typically held for characters who are completing their training or need to get a little “practice” in front of guests. One of the key spots we’ve seen Character Paloozas show up is in EPCOT’s American Adventure Pavilion. Surprise Pluto Appearance! Here’s the big kicker about Character Palooza — they aren’t scheduled, announced, or guaranteed. You just have to be in the right place at the right time when they happen! If you’re around when one pops up, we definitely recommend taking advantage, because you’ll likely be able to meet a few characters with little to no lines, plus, we’ve seen some pretty rare characters at these pop-ups! Gideon There are a few big things to keep in mind if you spot a Character Palooza happening. First, you gotta make that your new first priority and head over right away. There’s no guarantee how long the characters will be out, and the meet-and-greets can be cut short when crowds start to form, so if you wait, you could definitely miss out! Character Palooza Also, speaking of crowds cutting these character pop-ups short, if you do see a Character Palooza happening, it’s important to keep it relatively quiet. That means no shouting across the pavilion that the characters are here, no posting an announcement with your location on social media, etc. Just soak in the awesome magic of getting to meet a “secret menu” selection of characters with no lines! Making a big scene about it can cause crowds to flock over, ending the fun for everyone. Hey, Mr. Smee! Of course, like we mentioned, Character Paloozas are a rare surprise occurrence, so you shouldn’t camp out expecting to find one. But if this sounds like your dream Disney World scenario, and you’re getting FOMO at the thought of not catching one, there are a few other experiences that offer some similar character perks! Character Palooza Experience “Dupes” Character Palooza is a truly unique experience, so there isn’t anything quite like it. But, since it’s not scheduled or guaranteed, here are some close “dupes” that you CAN actually plan for! runDisney Races First up, there are typically character meet-and-greets positioned throughout the routes of the runDisney races. The runDisney character spots often check the boxes of both having little to no waits, AND having some ultra-rare characters from deep in the Disney vault! The characters vary by race, but there tend to be a few throughout each route, and runners have the option to pull over and meet them mid-race if they choose. Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2022 This might be the closest “dupe” in the sense that you can both find uncommon characters and meet them with minimal lines. But there are some caveats to consider! First, the runDisney races cost extra to register for, so you’ll have to both budget for the additional cost and make sure you sign up FAST, because the races tend to fill up quick once registration opens. Princess Daisy at the Disney Princess 5K Finish Line Also, they start SUPER early in the morning, so be prepared to plan at least a few days of your trip around getting rested up enough both pre- and post-race! And finally, there is a minimum pace you’ll need to keep in the runDisney races to avoid getting “swept,” so make sure you’re comfortable enough with maintaining the required speed to avoid getting your race cut short. Finish Line! Considering the additional cost and logistics, this option might only be a good fit if you have at least a moderate interest in the runDisney experience itself and not just the characters. But it’s definitely worth considering if you’ve already been curious about the runDisney races! Holiday Parties Several rarer characters are usually part of the scheduled entertainment at seasonal parties like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, and Disney Jollywood Nights. If you’re not a morning person (or a runner), this might be a better bet for you than runDisney to get your elusive character fix! Jack Skellington and Sally at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party But even though this can be a solid place to find more uncommon characters, beware that, unlike Character Paloozas, the lines for meet-and-greets at the holiday parties can get LONG! As in, “some people plan their whole party around the characters,” level of long! 120-minute line for Santa Jack and Sally at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party! The holiday parties are also separately ticketed events, so you’ll have to budget for the extra cost. But if meeting unique characters is your main goal, you can plan it directly into your schedule with the holiday parties instead of just hoping you’re lucky enough to spot a Character Palooza! Character Meals Character meals are almost the “opposite” of the holiday party meet-and-greet situation — with character dining, you can meet multiple characters without having to wait in line, BUT they’re usually pretty common ones. You’re unlikely to spot anyone unexpected here, although if you’re looking for popular characters anyway, this might be right up your alley! Belle at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall On the plus side, you can find the characters in cute, unique outfits at some of the restaurants, like Mickey and the gang’s art-inspired attire at Topolino’s Terrace or the farmer-esque ‘fits at Garden Grill, which does add that element of exclusivity at some of the character dining locations! Mickey Mouse at Garden Grill Of course, you’ll have to pay for the character meal as well, so it’s still not a “free” experience like Character Palooza. But since you’ve gotta eat anyway, at least you can also tack on those no-wait character meet-and-greets while you’re at it! On a hot Disney World day, there’s nothing we love more than a refreshing, ice-cold DOLE Whip, which is why we love Swirls on the Water at Disney Springs! They have so many fun limited-edition DOLE Whip flavors to try. Strawberry-Cotton Candy Cone So when we saw that they added not one, but four brand-new menu items for July, we had to run over to Disney Springs and try them! First, we got this new Strawberry-Cotton Candy Cone for $7.29. This is DOLE Whip Strawberry and blue cotton candy soft-serve served in a red velvet cone with a white sprinkle rim. Strawberry-Cotton Candy Cone The ice cream in this has both strawberry DOLE Whip and cotton candy soft-serve, but the cotton candy flavor is very prominent, and we could barely taste the strawberry in most bites. The red velvet cone tasted like a regular ice cream cone, and the white chocolate sprinkles brought in even more sugar. If you’re looking for an ice cream to satisfy the ultimate sweet tooth, then this is for you! However, if you’re a strawberry fan, you probably won’t like this. Strawberry-Cotton Candy Cone The DOLE Whip Flight is $8.99. The flavors of the month for July are DOLE Whip Pineapple with coconut soft-serve topped with a fresh pineapple wedge, DOLE Whip Strawberry with cotton candy soft-serve topped with white sprinkles, and DOLE Whip Orange with vanilla soft-serve topped with chocolate sauce. DOLE Whip Flight The Pineapple DOLE Whip had an even mix of pineapple and coconut, making it taste like a Piña Colada in ice cream form. It was super light and refreshing on a hot day. Plus, we loved the pineapple slice for a little snack. DOLE Whip Pineapple with coconut soft-serve As for the DOLE Whip Orange, there was an even mix of tart orange and creamy vanilla, so it was super fruity with a creamsicle vibe. The orange and vanilla flavors were so strong that we couldn’t really taste the chocolate sauce, but the orange vanilla was so good that we’re not mad about it! DOLE Whip Orange with vanilla soft-serve This DOLE Whip Strawberry with cotton candy soft-serve was the same as the cone from earlier but served in a dish. Again, the cotton candy flavor is so prominent that we could barely taste the strawberry in most bites, and the sprinkles just add even more sugar to the taste, but we enjoyed how it added some crunch to the texture. This one melted much faster than the other two, so if you’re getting it, bring napkins! If there’s one thing you shouldn’t underestimate about Florida, it’s the weather. Disney World is probably hotter than you expect, even if you’re from other hot places, because the humidity makes it feel so much hotter than it is. Once you factor in the rain, you realize how big a deal weather really can be. Frogg Toggs Poncho Because it rains ALL the time, we’ve tested just about everything to help with the rain, and these are our favorite ponchos that actually work. We tuck it into our backpack in the morning because we’re heading out to the parks, and then once it starts raining, we can easily take it out and put it on. Frogg Toggs Poncho You might be tempted to say, “Well, I know Disney World sells ponchos, so I can buy one when I’m in the parks, so I don’t have to carry it around all day if it doesn’t rain.” We hate to break it to you, but it’s probably going to rain at least at some point during your trip. The ponchos in the parks aren’t reusable, they’re expensive, and you don’t want to run to the nearest store to get them (along with all the other people who didn’t bring their own). If we’re spending $22 on a slice of cake, we want to love it, and these are the top three favorites that are worth your money! Cake Bake Shop The Cake Bake Shop Bakery on Disney’s BoardWalk is home to some of our favorite sweets at Disney World, and we’ve shared our ranking of all the cake slices we’ve tried. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers can be found right next to the Cake Bake Shop Restaurant. It has been controversial among Disney fans — mostly for their massive cake slices that are $22 a piece! With that price tag, you want to make sure you’re going to love it. 3. Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake A slice of Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake is made with Valrhona French chocolate cake filled with Callebaut Belgian chocolate ganache and malted chocolate cream. Topped with Callebaut Belgian chocolate fudge and Fleur de Sel. Gwendolyn’s Famous Earl’s Court Chocolate Cake The cake itself is fluffy but still has that slight density you want in a really good chocolate cake that’s rich and satisfying without being overly sweet. The chocolate flavor is deep and well-balanced, and then between each layer, you get this thick, creamy chocolate ganache that might have been our favorite part of the whole dessert. It’s smooth, sweet, intensely chocolatey, with even a little hint of nuttiness, and it’s layered so perfectly throughout the cake. Look at the layers Inside, there are also layers of malted chocolate cream, which are lighter in flavor and cooler in texture, and they do such a good job balancing out the heavier chocolate notes. It keeps the cake from feeling too rich all at once, even though it’s definitely indulgent. And then the top is just incredible: a thick Belgian chocolate fudge layer finished with fleur de sel, which adds this subtle saltiness that cuts through the sweetness in the best way. It’s beautifully done, beautifully plated, and even dusted with a little edible glitter, because of course it is. A bite 2. Millionaire Cake When we tried the Millionaire Cake. This cake is made of multiple layers of moist chocolate cake with inserts of chocolate ganache, buttercream icing, creamy caramel, and shortbread crumbs. To put it bluntly, this thing is heavenly! Millionaire’s Cake If you’re a fan of a good Millionaire’s Shortbread (which, hello, that’s us), you’re going to fall in love all over again with this version of a classic treat. The entire cake was so soft and melted in your mouth, and it’s encased on the sides and top in a layer of milk chocolate topped with more caramel drizzle and shortbread crumbs. Delicious! 1. Peanut Butter Crunch Cake The Peanut Butter Crunch Cake is number one in our hearts. This was layers of chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream, chocolate ganache, and crunchy chocolate pearls between the layers. That chocolate was rich and sweet, and the ganache complemented the peanut butter nicely. The peanut butter buttercream was our favorite part, though — a delightful peanut butter flavor and some excellent texture from the crunchy pearls that made it more unique. Peanut Butter Crunch The cake itself was moist and thick, and, as usual, very high quality. The whole thing is sprinkled with edible glitter, which just makes it all the more magical. We highly recommend this treat if you’re a chocolate and PB lover — like us! This cake slice was the monthly limited edition cake, but we’re hoping it will stick around! YUM! If you’ve ever been to Disney World in the summer, then you know the weather is only two things: hot and rainy. After the major heatwave last week, Mother Nature is yet again headed for the House of Mouse with a potential tropical storm or depression. A rainy Magic Kingdom entrance A new storm system started forming off the coast of central Florida on Wednesday. According to the National Hurricane Center tracking it, there’s a much higher chance that the storm could become the season’s next tropical storm or depression! “Regardless, the development of the low will lead to a tightening pressure gradient across east Central Florida, with southerly winds picking up to 10 to 15 mph areawide,” forecasters said. “Increasing moisture through the weekend and into early next week as a result of the southerly flow and the developing low will lead to scattered to numerous shower and storm chances across the area, primarily during the afternoon hours each day.” ©The National Hurricane Center We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the weather at Disney World. In case you missed it, DinoLand USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is under construction to become a newly reimagined Tropical Americas land! This change will bring three brand-new rides, along with a new quick-service restaurant that will be the largest on Disney property. @Disney Disney has been hard at work building the new land, and if you look in the right places, you can see them building it yourself through the construction walls. We stopped by the construction site yesterday, and the Encanto ride just hit a massive milestone! Disney just put this massive crane in the future Pueblo Esperanza. Construction is being done on the roofs of buildings Disney kept to retheme, like Chester & Hester’s Gift Shop and Restaurantosaurus, so it’s likely the roofs are being transformed right now! Cranes! Then, we saw construction workers on the roof of one of the buildings. They’ve taken off the shingles of most of the roof, and only a few are left, so it’s likely that this roof is being redone as well. Construction workers at Pueblo Esperanza When we looked closer at the rides, some progress has been made on this new two-story building, which will become the animal-themed carousel. It looks like this central concrete beam is covered with scaffolding, and it will likely be the center pole of the carousel. Construction is progressing! But that’s not all – there’s something new behind it, too. The Encanto ride building has a new wire frame along the roof! Could we see some more new additions to it soon? What’s happening at the Madrigal House? The new wire frame is likely to be used to construct the roof and faux upper levels of the Madrigal House, or it could be used for fake greenery and rocks that Disney uses to hide the land’s surroundings. We recently got to check out a hotel in the Orlando area that’s entirely new to us, and it was INCREDIBLE. Let’s go to the LEGOLAND Hotel! We visited LEGOLAND Florida and stopped by their LEGOLAND Hotel. When we tell you guys that this hotel is made with kids in mind, we mean it! The details are well thought out, and the theming was over the top and incredible. Interested in staying there in the future? Come along with us on the full tour! Atmosphere & Lobby Welcome to the LEGOLAND Hotel, one of three hotels that are part of LEGOLAND Florida! The LEGO detailing starts on the exterior, so that when you first drive up, you’re already immersed in the theme. Porte cochere You’re even greeted by a LEGO doorman! LEGO figures everywhere There are LEGO play areas and interactive exhibits all throughout the lobby. We found this to be one of (if not THE) most kid-friendly hotels we’d ever been inside. Lobby Seriously, there are SO many areas for playing! While the adults check in (which is either at the front desk or one of the provided kiosks), kids can explore and create. So much to do! There’s a large castle-themed play area in the back of the lobby, complete with ball pit, and brick stations for small-scale building throughout the lobby. In the lobby There are several little activities — a pajama party, bonfire (you can buy a s’mores kit with nine s’mores for $25), and LEGO workshops at the Creative Workshop. They also have the LEGO Theater, which plays clips from The LEGO Movie. The LEGO Theater! But we can’t forget about the food! Dining There are two main restaurants in this hotel. The first is Bricks Family Restaurant, which serves breakfast from 7 AM to 11 AM and dinner from 5 PM to 9 PM. Bricks Family Restaurant The menu here is all-you-care-to-enjoy, with breakfast served family-style and dinner as a buffet. There are vegan and vegetarian menu items available as well. At the table Of course, the restaurant is also themed to LEGO, with giant models of LEGO characters and fun artwork. So themed! The other main dining spot is Skyline Lounge with theming of a city skyline sort of vibe. This one is open starting at noon each day and stays open until 9 PM Monday through Thursday, and until 10 PM Friday through Sunday. Skyline Lounge This lounge offers an à la carte menu and a full bar and has its own play area. Reservations are recommended to dine here. More LEGO! This is likely going to be your go-to spot if you want to grab lunch at the hotel, since Bricks Family Restaurant isn’t open during that time. The bar Amenities For hotel amenities, there’s one large pool available, which has giant floating LEGO bricks for kids to play with while they swim! The pool LEGOLAND Florida Resort is a certified Autism center, so you’ll find sensory guides in some of the public spaces. This is the one posted near the pool. Sensory Guide There’s also a waterslide open for part of the day! Unlike other hotels, this slide is separate from the pool. Waterslide LEGOLAND Hotel also has its own mini golf course, but you’ll need to pay extra to experience this. Mini Golf It’s themed to wild animals, which are — of course — made of LEGO. Pay at the kiosk There is a boardwalk and a pier where pontoon boat rides are sometimes offered. This is the perfect place to sit and watch the water! Dock And of course, there’s a shuttle available for those staying at the resort. The shuttle bus If you get lost, there are amenities maps posted around to help guide you. They even show where ramps are located as opposed to stairs! Map to guide you Now, let’s chat about the rooms! Room Tours LEGO Duplo Room There are seven different room types at LEGOLAND Hotel, and we got to see three of them during our visit. First up was the LEGO Duplo room, themed to those larger LEGO bricks that are made for smaller children. Entering the room Each of these hotel rooms is split into separate sleeping areas for adults and kids. Some room types are available in suites that sleep up to nine people, but the three rooms we saw each sleep up to five. The main area The theming in these rooms is seriously over-the-top! They have decorated nearly every inch of the walls and added in LEGO builds and figures throughout. TV and desk The kids get a bunkhouse space with a trundle bed to sleep the fifth person. The Duplo version of this was SO bright and colorful — themed to the jungle! Kids bunkhouse And of course, the bedding is decorated to match! The bunks Both the adult room and the kids’ space get TVs. There’s also some storage on the shelving underneath. Their own TV! The bathroom in the Duplo rooms is themed to the Arctic with Duplo penguins! We particularly love the LEGO-framed mirror. Bathroom And the toilets? They have adjustable seats for your little ones! Special toilet cover Of course, since these rooms are designed for families with kids, there’s a shower and tub combo with a removable shower head. Tub/shower combo But the best part about the hotel rooms at LEGOLAND Hotel might be the kid-friendly treasure hunt found in each room! Scavenger hunt! Each room has a little puzzle that kids can solve to open a lock on a chest by the door. The chest has fun stuff for the kids inside! There were two apple juice boxes and two LEGO DUPLO celebration cakes in our room. Our prizes! Now, on to the next! LEGO Friends Room Another room we toured was the LEGO Friends room! This is aimed toward slightly older children and has a summer camp-like theme. Entrance area The kids’ bunkhouse looks just like a cabin and has a fun campfire mural on the wall. They’ve even added letters on the floor! Bunkhouse space Like the other room, there’s a TV available and some storage for the kids. Kids’ TV There’s ample storage in the room for five people, including this wardrobe area with shelves, a luggage rack, drawers, and a safe. Storage Each room also comes with a full-length mirror. Full-length mirror The bathroom in these rooms is a bit more understated compared to the LEGO Duplo Room. Bathroom And of course, the main space has your bed, desk, chairs, and nightstands. Main bed The furniture in these hotel rooms was surprisingly sturdy — not cheesy at all! Desk and TV But our favorite theme might be… The LEGO Movie Room …the LEGO Movie Rooms! These are themed to one of the funniest kids’ movies of all time (in this writer’s humble opinion). Entrance Like the others, they have a scavenger hunt for the kiddos when you walk in. Start the scavenger hunt! There are SO many nods and hidden details from the movie around this room, from the posters and bulletin board to the characters on the bedding. Main bed Have we mentioned how fun this LEGO brick carpet is? You’ll see it in several spaces throughout the hotel, and it’s the perfect addition to the vibe. Desk and TV If you plan to stay in one of these rooms before your trip, we recommend watching the movie ahead of time so you can search for all of the Easter eggs. So many details! The bathroom is super over-the-top with bright colors… WILD bathroom …and a rainbow LEGO mirror! Each room comes equipped with towels and some basic toiletries. So many colors! The shower has shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that doubles as hand soap in easy-to-use pumps. Toiletries These kids’ bunks are themed to a rocket ship, and they are very cool! You get some outer space detailing and some fun “stickers” on the wall. Bunkhouse These E & L 4-Eva pillows are a fun hidden detail. We totally ship Emmet and Lucy! So cute! Deck the (Grand) Hall! Go ahead and trim the (palm) trees! It’s time for the most wonderful voyage of the year. If you’re already dreaming of making waves, and your holiday list includes things like “more days at sea,” then, oh sugarplum, does Disney Cruise Line have the itineraries for you. Why I Love Very Merrytime Cruises I’ve had the opportunity to sail on a variety of different ships, all with different itineraries, and visits to both island destinations, but there’s something about my Very Merrytime sailing that has stayed with me. During the holidays, rather than doing the usual “drive around and look at light displays,” I thought, why not spend a few days at sea, soaking in the festive atmosphere all while sailing through the Caribbean? I packed festive outfits and honestly shrieked out loud when I saw Daisy Duck’s holiday fit (seriously, she’s so fabulous). I insisted that my boyfriend take my picture in front of the atrium Christmas tree every single night because it was so impressive. I also freaked out every time I came across a new Christmas tree onboard, since they were all perfectly themed for their designated spaces. I watched my favorite holiday movie, The Muppet Christmas Carol, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying banana soft-serve ice cream. So, if you’re ready to set sail, you know what to do.
