runDisney Throwback: Celebrating 25 Years of the Walt Disney World Marathon!

This years marks the 25th Walt Disney World Marathon presented by Cigna and we’re less than a month away from the festivities. With amazing sights, spectacular surprises and fantastic runs in store, the weekend celebration is sure to be runDisney’s biggest yet.

From course routes to medal designs, a lot has changed over the last 25 years. For instance, did you know the original event featured just 8,200 runners? The 2018 Walt Disney World Marathon will host more than 55,000 participants for the celebratory event! As is runDisney tradition, each runner that completed the marathon on January 16, 1994, was awarded a finisher’s medal. Take a look back through 25 years of our finisher medals and see what will await runners at this year’s finish line:
