  15. There are TONS of things to do and see in Disney World! Cinderella Castle Each park has lots of rides, shows, dining options, character meet-and-greets, and more. Unfortunately, some of those attractions have to be closed for refurbishment every once in a while. If you take a look at Disney World’s websites or wander around the parks, you’ll notice that 13(!!) attractions will continue to be closed this week! From Magic Kingdom to Blizzard Beach, rides and attractions are closed all over Disney World so they can be properly maintained. If you don’t count restaurants, 13 rides, slides, and shows will be unavailable. Let’s take a look at each of these that will be closed from April 20th through April 27th! Magic Kingdom 1. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Splash Mountain is permanently closed — this ride is being renovated to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! The new ride will be themed to The Princess and the Frog. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure The ride in Disney World is set to open this summer. Now, we are starting to see some big signs that we’re getting close. New signs have been added to a couple of the stores near the ride! Critter Co-Op and Tiana’s General Store will be coming to Magic Kingdom. Critter Co-op We have also seen Disney Imagineers test riding the ride! Now, that gets us super excited to see! If they’re riding it, that’s gotta mean it’s almost ready, right? Disney Imagineers riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World Other subtle details have emerged such as a water lily on the new gate. The water little is a nod to the movie the ride is inspired by. The queue is also starting to look really good! Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure And now that some of the walls have come down, you can see new details like this new sidewalk that has been exposed! Walls are down outside We recently learned lots of new information about this ride, including a hint that there will be Splash Mountain Easter Eggs throughout the attraction! Disney recently shared a look at new characters coming to the ride, but there has not been an opening day announced yet. We’ll be watching and listening as summer approaches! Check Out This New Detail at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! If you miss Splash Mountain or want to celebrate the new ride, you should check out our DFB t-shirts! We have a Splash Mountain Farwell Tour shirt… DFB Exclusive! …and a Tiana tee as well! Check out our new Tiana-inspired merch! You can shop both tees (and lots of other Disney merch) at our online store. Click here to shop our DFB merchandise store. Even with these two rides still closed, there is A LOT to do in Disney World! Now, let’s dive into what else will be closed this week, April 14th through 20th, in Disney World! 2. Country Bear Jamboree Country Bear Jamboree closed on January 27th, 2024 for refurbishment. When we recently visited Magic Kingdom, we noticed that the sign for the show has now been covered up! Country Bear Jamboree Disney announced that a NEW show is coming to Country Bear Jamboree, with the bears learning an all-new act. The new show is set to open sometime this summer. There’s a Nast Smell Coming From Under Magic Kingdom With Country Bear Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure closed, that leaves just Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Walt Disney World Railroad open in Frontierland. Disney’s Hollywood Studios 3. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster closed on January 8th, it won’t reopen until the summer of this year. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Although we don’t have an exact reopening date yet, we know that it’ll be at least a few months before the ride reopens. Last year, when the ride closed around this time (on February 20th, to be exact), it reopened on May 26th. Why You Won’t Want To Go To Hollywood Studios on June 5th 4. Voyage of the Little Mermaid Well, it’s official — Voyage of the Little Mermaid is permanently closed in Disney World. We had suspected this was the case for some time (as it hasn’t actually been open for a few years now), but now the permanent closure has been confirmed. Voyage of the Little Mermaid will soon become “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” Disney is going to introduce a NEW show in this spot, though it will still be themed to the animated movie The Little Mermaid! The new show will be called “The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure” and is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024. ©Disney It will be a “fully reimagined theatrical production inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios classic.” A Hollywood Studios Ride Recently Changed! 5-13. Blizzard Beach Blizzard Beach had its last open day on March 16th, 2024 before it closed for refurbishment. Blizzard Beach has nine attractions that we won’t be able to enjoy this week. Blizzard Beach While Blizzard Beach closed, Typhoon Lagoon opened on March 17th, 2024. The two water parks often rotate off and on for being open. Disney has not given a timeline for this new closure or how long Typhoon Lagoon will be open. We’ll be watching for any updates, though! 5 Disney World Essentials You’ll Need in Summer Magic Kingdom Restaurants Tomorrowland Terrace Tomorrowland Terrace is a quick-service restaurant that’s remained closed since the 2020 pandemic-related closures, but even before that, this spot was only occasionally open. Tomorrowland Terrace seating Once in a while, you’ll see the dining room open as a rest area (and it’s still being used for the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties), but it’s usually all roped off and empty. Disney hasn’t announced when this spot could finally reopen, but we’ll be watching for updates. What Will Disney Do with This Deserted Building in Magic Kingdom? EPCOT Restaurants Restaurant Marrakesh Restaurant Marrakesh is still closed in the Morocco pavilion of EPCOT’s World Showcase, and there’s no word yet on when it might reopen. Restaurant Marrakesh The restaurant is kind of open — it will be functioning as an Annual Passholder lounge from May 1st through June 26th. However, we’re still waiting for the full restaurant to reopen! The restaurant’s website looks normal, so we still don’t know if it is permanently closed or if it could reopen. 16. Sometimes we just have the itch to get out and see the rest of Disney World beyond the theme parks. When this is the case, we find ourselves strategizing which is the best course to take to end up by some of our favorite Disney World hotels. The Artist’s Palette On a recent visit to Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, we decided to stop by that quick service restaurant there — The Artist’s Palette — for an early dinner and see if they had anything new to the menu to try! Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort neighbors Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney Springs. However it’s a huge property and while it’s within walking distance to both, depending on where you’re starting your trek from, certain sections of the hotel grounds can be further away requiring a bit more time (and patience getting there by foot). The Artist’s Palette entrance This hotel also offers complimentary boat and bus transportation depending on your destination and is one of the popular Disney Vacation Club hotel options due to its massive size and villas that can sleep up to 12. Atmosphere The Artist’s Palette has exposed brick walls on the inside and artistic glass light fixtures that give it a casual, yet sophisticated vibe. We love an exposed brick wall! We found it to be warm and inviting, with decor that feels like you’ve just stepped inside a hip city artist’s loft. There’s bench seating and tables available inside… Indoor seating … and several iron patio tables and chairs available if you prefer to take your meal and eat outside. Outdoor seating The utensils are self-service here… Self-serve … and there’s even a convenient microwave you can use right by the condiments. Condiments and microwave This quick-service restaurant also shares space with general groceries that hotel guests may want to pick up during their stay along with self-serve beverage machines, grab and go items in large coolers… Chilled items … an open concept kitchen so you can watch some of your food be prepared… The open kitchen … and an extensive arrangement of desserts to choose from that will vary seasonally. Grab and go options To get our meal started, we walked up to the Cast Member toward the center of the restaurant holding the menu, and asked to take a peek at what was available to order. Menu The menu options here here are fairly simple with a few dishes that make up entrees… Menu … along with soup and salad options, kid’s meal portions, select desserts, and even a create-your-own entree as a dinner exclusive! Back of the menu During this time, Disney was celebrating Women’s History Month so there were a few exclusive menu items available for a limited time here. Limited-time menu This certainly piqued our interest, and we decided on what we wanted to order after a few minutes of browsing the menu. Drinks Our plans derailed a bit right off the bat here because we had a hard time finding the drink we originally wanted to try. After speaking with several of the Cast Members and subsequently all looking for this one drink, they persuaded us to try a newer pre-mixed drink that they all raved about. We decided to try out the On The Rocks Premium Cocktails — The Margarita which cost us $22. On The Rocks Premium Cocktails — The Margarita Allow us to be the first to point out that this is quite a large premixed margarita bottle and the Cast Member at the register ringing out our order offered an accompanying cup so we could grab ice from the drink machines. Margs for days This drink was every bit as good as the Cast Members described to us (sometimes it pays to talk to them and really heed their suggestions)! It’s a classic lime-flavored margarita and for a premixed drink, it really had fresh flavor. The top of the bottle comes corked and when we opened it up to pour into the glass and take a sip it was just as good as ordering a margarita from the pool bar (just maybe a bit stronger). A cup full! Overall this was a solid drink choice that we’d totally opt for again, but it’s got a hefty price tag to it at $22. Luckily though, this bottle held around 4 full cup servings so we would highly recommend splitting it between your dining party because it is a bit stronger in the tequila than what you’ll get at the nearby bar. Eats We decided to order all of the new items that were on the menu for Women’s History Month along with a few extra options. All together we decided to try the Beef Bourguignon, Cauliflower Bisque, Traditional Pound Cake, and finish everything off with the Bears in Dirt for dessert. Our full meal! Let’s start by talking about the Cauliflower Bisque first! This is made of creamy cauliflower bisque, harissa, with roasted pistachio gremalata and cost us $4.49. This one was quite a surprise! Cauliflower Bisque After it had sat for a little bit in the cup, the top formed a visible buttery layer of grease to the top of it and we just knew it had to be delicious at that point. See that buttery layer? Luckily, it delivered on all aspects and the creamy cauliflower didn’t even taste like cauliflower. See the chunks of veggies? While it is a bisque, it was a bit thicker like a cream of mushroom soup, but this one hit the spot for us when it was served warm, gave great buttery notes to the top of the bisque with our spoonful, and tasted like warm buttery cream in our mouths. There were bits of cauliflower in it, along with a low-heat spice from the peppery taste of the harissa and the pistachio gremolata paired well to brighten the flavors in this veggie dish, too! Then it was time to turn our attention to the Beef Bourguignon. This dish is made of slow-braised beef and vegetables in a rich red wine jus served over creamy mashed potatoes and cost us $14.99. Beef Bourguignon We had high expectations for this one, and it didn’t disappoint! This was served very warm and was still hot for quite a while after we had ordered it. The portion was very large, and we’re certain you could easily share it if you really wanted to try it along with something else. Served warm The red wine jus is what will hit you first when you take a bite and it’s delicious. The meat is tender enough to cut through with a plastic utensil and juicy when it makes it to your mouth. The added vegetables tasted like carrots, onions, and even mushrooms mixed into the sauce layered over top of the mashed potatoes. A spoonful These weren’t as buttery as we’re used to with Disney World mashed potatoes, but with the accompanying red wine jus and veggies, it was a smart choice to hold back on that because it could easily have become too salty if it had been any more buttery than what they were. We’ve made it halfway through our meal and, we think that deserves an award, so now it’s time to talk about the Traditional Pound Cake. This delectable goodie is a homemade vanilla pound cake slice and cost us $3.99. Traditional Pound Cake Taking a bite of this just made your life complete at that moment. The slice comes individually packaged and tastes every bit like you would imagine a vanilla pound cake should. It was just moist enough, but not too much to ruin the pound cake consistency which crumbled in our mouth as soon as we took a bite. Out of the wrapping It’s certainly a light vanilla flavor to this cake and for the price and the taste, it was a great value. Just crumbled in your mouth We wrapped up our dinner by treating ourselves to a little dessert. We opted for the Bears in Dirt cup made of chocolate pudding, chocolate cookie crumbs, and gummy candy bears, which cost us $3.79. Bears in Dirt This one had us feeling like a kid again in all the best ways. The chocolate pudding was thick and chocolatey to taste and the layer of cookie crumbs at the time was almost like a thin layer of cake due to the moisture of the pudding. Without the lid The little gummy candy bears sticking up out of the dirt were adorable and we could easily see this become a popular grab-and-go snack or a special treat for your little ones when visiting here. Chocolate! And if you were wondering, yes, the gummy candy bears also were delicious and we may have acted out scenes with them while we were eating dessert. Overall Overall we really enjoyed our dinner here. The entrees had a table-service quality with sophisticated flavors. It was a really great experience for what is essentially a fast food restaurant. Delicious meal! We were impressed with everything we ordered and really enjoyed talking through menu options with such friendly and helpful Cast Members who seem to know their menu offerings well enough that they’re comfortable making recommendations to you based on your discussed preferences. Nosh or Not? Stop by for a meal at The Artist’s Palette if… You’re looking for a unique meal at Disney World. If you’re looking to switch up your meal options from the typical burger, pizza, hot dogs, and fries, this restaurant would be a great choice! You’re looking to dine with sophistication on a budget. It’s not always going to be the fanciest of options meal-wise, but if you’re looking for a hip atmosphere The Artist’s Palette is where you want to be. You’re taking a day to tour a few of the Disney World hotels. There are lots of folks that work in a full day or more just to look around at the rest of Disney World outside of the theme parks. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, you’re probably just a short bus ride away. We’d recommend grabbing a meal elsewhere if… You prefer a table service restaurant experience. While you can order here and get your food brought out to your table, this is still technically a quick-service restaurant so most of the menu offerings will be easily packaged to take on the go. If you’re looking for a plated entree experience at a traditional restaurant where you’re seated by a host, you won’t find that here. Buffets have your heart. We honestly can’t blame you because some of the Disney World buffets are real bangers when it comes to their menu selection but unfortunately, that just won’t be found here. You’re not willing to venture over to a big Disney World hotel JUST for a meal. We get it, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort is a massive hotel and grounds that might feel like it takes forever to get through at times. If the idea of venturing over to one of the largest Disney World hotel properties doesn’t sound appealing to you, you could find yourself a tad annoyed before you even make it to the restaurant. 17. When we mention Magic Kingdom, we bet you’re already thinking about your favorite places. Main Street, U.S.A. Maybe you love just hanging out in Fantasyland, surrounded by magic, Wonderland, and the occasional visit by Peter Pan. Maybe the Wild West vibes are more your thing, or maybe you just HAVE to be in Adventureland, where the smell of pineapple Dole Whip permeates the air. Well, we’ve got a favorite place, and the best way to spend some time in Magic Kingdom, and we’re going to tell you about it. Join us as we walk down Main Street, U.S.A., and past Cinderella Castle to make our way to Liberty Square. Yes, you might not think that Liberty Square is worth a visit and are probably wondering where we’re going with this, but trust the process. Liberty Square Our first stop is at Columbia Harbour House, where we’re going to order a snack. Yep, we’re going to get an order of those Hush Puppies, those beautifully fried golden-brown balls of cornmeal batter. Seriously, they are SO good. To make things even faster, we used Mobile Order during our walkover so we can pick them up right when we get there. Don’t those hushpuppies look amazing? But we’re not going to eat them here. After we pick them up, we’re headed for the rocking chairs in Liberty Square that sit right on the route of the Festival of Fantasy parade (you know where we’re going with this, right?). We’re going to get comfy in one of those chairs and wait for the parade to begin. Rocking Chairs in Liberty Square Now, we’re going to settle in for 12 minutes and watch the parade. Yep, this is seriously the best 12 minutes you’ll spend in Magic Kingdom. We’ve got everything we need: food, shade, and entertainment. Instead of climbing over everyone else, we’ve got the best seat in the house (er, park)! Festival of Fantasy coming through Liberty Square So if you’re looking for a more chill way of seeing the parade, be sure to try this out. We know the rocking chairs won’t always be available, but those hush puppies are, and Liberty Square is a great place to see the parade! Stay tuned to DFB for more. The Tree of Life After last week saw wait times go down pretty much across the board at Walt Disney World, this week saw that trend unfortunately head in the opposite direction. 19. What would you do if you could meet Mary Poppins? Mary Poppins Meet-and-Greet Sure, we know, you’ve probably already met Mary Poppins in Disney World or you’ve seen her riding on the carousel in Disneyland. But what if you could talk to the REAL, original Mary Poppins, aka Julie Andrews, who starred in the Disney movie Mary Poppins? Would you lose your mind? Because that’s what happened to one celebrity when she got a surprise call from the Disney Legend herself. Jennifer Garner, star of Alias, 13 Going on 30, Daredevil, and our hearts, is a huge Julie Andrews fan. Journalist (and celebrity in her own right) Katie Couric remembered this, so she arranged to have Andrews surprise Garner with a special phone call on her birthday. The result? Well, let’s just say we are now convinced that Jennifer Garner is all of us judging from her reaction. Although Garner does mention The Sound of Music, she ends up asking Andrews about the children’s books she’s written, especially about The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. Yes, believe it or not, Andrews is also an acclaimed children’s author, too. It just goes to show that Mary Poppins really CAN do everything. ©Disney Of course, we’re also VERY familiar with Andrews as the Queen of Genovia in Princess Diaries and Princess Diaries 2. Back in 2022, we learned that a third film was in the works, but later that year, Andrews had doubts that she would be a part of it if the film did happen. We haven’t heard anything about that sequel since, though, so we’re not sure what’s going on with it. ©Disney The video just goes to show that celebrities, especially Jennifer Garner, are just like us. We’d probably behave the same way if we ever had the opportunity to speak to an icon like Julie Andrews. Stay tuned to DFB for more! These Celebs Might Be MORE Obsessed With Disney THAN YOU ARE! 20. Tomorrowland Terrace used to be a quick-service spot in Magic Kingdom, but it’s been closed for years now. Tomorrowland Terrace Previously, it was a tasty counter service spot away from the crowds. Now, it sits closed MOST of the time. It still opens for fireworks dessert parties, but other than that, it’s just a large empty restaurant sitting on the outskirts of Tomorrowland. But this deserted spot may have more uses than you think! Great Spot to Work If you’re like us and you bring your work WITH you into Magic Kingdom for a change of scenery (because why not?), Tomorrowland Terrace is a great option. Tomorrowland Terrace seating You’ll be (most likely) totally alone, but with the soundscape of the Magic Kingdom park around you while you work. We do recommend only doing this during the cooler months though, because while it’s shaded, it’s still outside and doesn’t have AC. Quiet Spot for a Break If you or someone in your party is sensitive to loud noises, and crowds, and overall just gets overstimulated while in Disney World, Tomorrowland Terrace is a fantastic place to take a quick, quiet breather. Beautiful view! Again, you’ll likely be in there totally alone (or with someone who is just working on their computer). You can take however long you need in the shade and quiet to relax and center yourself. Never be ashamed of this — Disney World is a LOT and it’s important to take breaks so you don’t burn yourself out! The SHADE! As we said before, there is plenty of shade in Tomorrowland Terrace, and that’s a little hard to come by in other areas of Tomorrowland. Tons of shade! While there’s no AC in this area, being right out of the sun’s light can DRASTICALLY help you cool off quickly. It’s also a great place to reapply some sunscreen real quick or chug some water to keep yourself hydrated. Use It as a Dining Spot! While this restaurant doesn’t serve food themselves anymore, you can bring food from other locations and eat it here! It’s a great place to sit! Other restaurants in Magic Kingdom don’t have a ton of seating, or it’s all outdoors (ahem, Casey’s Corner). Instead of trying to find a seat there, walk a few extra minutes and get yourself a seat away from the sun. You can also eat the snacks/lunch you’ve brought from home! People Watching at its Finest If you want to take a break from the crowds and instead WATCH the crowds from far away, this is the place to do it. You can see A LOT from here! 21. Crowds in Disney World surge during expected times like holidays, spring break, and summer, but there are other times of the year you may be caught off guard by the crowds. Advent Health Arena in ESPN Wide World of Sports Many times this is due to special events happening somewhere in the resort, such as runDisney events around the parks, but many large sports competition companies also host their yearly events at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports complex and/or Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort & Convention Center, drawing in massive crowds. Two of those events are coming up soon and are happening on THE SAME weekend. From April 26th through 28th, Disney World will be hosting both The Cheerleading Worlds and The Dance Worlds Championship Events. These aren’t just national events though, no — there are teams coming from ALL over the world. ©The Dance Worlds This year alone, the Dance Worlds will see over 5,000 dancers spanning 400+ teams across 23 countries. The Cheerleading Worlds, on the other hand, will see over 12,000 cheerleaders across 500 teams spanning 21 countries to come together and celebrate the expertise, athleticism, determination and shared passion that create All Star cheerleading. ©The Cheerleading Worlds We don’t know about you, but that’s A LOT of people to be in Disney World at one time, especially considering that’s not including all the regular park guests that have no idea about the event. In many cases, the teams will come to Disney World early or stay a little late to spend some time in the parks, so crowds are likely to be elevated for around a week. ©The Dance Worlds In addition to being in the parks, many of these teams will also be staying at Disney Worlds hotels. Oftentimes these are Disney’s All Star Resorts, which are their cheapest options. If you’re staying at the All-Star Sports Resort in particular, you will likely find lots of groups of teens practicing their routines. Things can feel noisy ad crowded. You may want to splurge a little bit to stay at a different Value hotel, or even a Moderate! How to stay at a Moderate Resort on a Value Resort budget! 22. Alright, we’ll admit it. Most days, we prefer to live in sweatpants and cozy cotton t-shirts. We like wearing slippers and sweatshirts — the softer, the better. But every once in a while, it’s nice to dress up. Sometimes, we go FULL GLAM. And you know what? It’s pretty fun! Mickey and Minnie But these days, it’s pretty hard to find an excuse to break out those elegant skirts and fancy lipstick. That’s where Dapper Days comes in. Every few months, Dapper Day participants dress in their finest attire and visit the Disney parks for a special outing! This year, the Dapper Day Spring Outing to Disney World is happening April 20th–21st. Want to see what people are wearing? Is that even a question? Of course you do! Let’s go! Prepare to be WOWED by the looks we saw in EPCOT on April 20th. We met a sweet Anna and Elsa duo dressed in sparkly vintage-inspired dresses. Of course, Olaf made an appearance, too! From the gorgeous headpieces to those lace gloves, these outfits are AMAZING. We cannot let it go — bravo! Pictured: @samantha_rose_51 and @salt_n_sass_kicking_pots_ass Over by Spaceship Earth, we ran into TONS of Dapper Day participants. This group was all dressed up in adorable retro matching looks — props to them for coordinating so well! Pictured: @tymaxham Don’t forget! EPCOT is in the middle of its popular Flower and Garden Festival, and this couple’s gorgeous floral ensemble is PERFECT for springtime! We can’t get enough of these matching outfits — and the headwear is on point, too. 10/10. Pictured: @stormy_trooper24 and @nurselisab1981 No Dapper Day event is complete without a parasol! This colorful outfit is bright, cheery, and SO chic. Oh, and we ADORE those sunglasses. SO fabulous! Finally, we have to give a shoutout to this lovely group of ladies! Those polka-dot skirts are such a timeless classic, and the heart-shaped sunglasses are a fun touch! To tie it all together with a red lip…ICONIC.
